Review Golden Star Chinese Restaurant - Bendigo

A true little gem. It was so great to find such a treasure that has made our stay in bendigo so enjoyable. Lovely staff and fantastic food. Well worth a visit.

Usually you guys deliver excellent service and quality, but tonight we were disappointed! Not sure what’s changed but your salt and pepper pork was terrible..... dripping in oil, appeared to be more like reused or reheated sweet and sour pork in old batter that was completely inedible. Definitely not the standard you had previously!

I am just amazed by the taste. When i asked the waiter why there is a new menu he told me they have a new chef. Well definitely the food tasted alot different and tastier. Definitely going back there soon !!!!

Really nice cuisine! Not sure what's up with the corn soup but all the other flavours are what you expect with Chinese food.... yummo! Good location. This place is worth checking out! In fact... I'm due to go back some time soon!

The roast duck is usually too dry, overcooked and does not taste fresh. The fried koay teow is mediocre. The service is mediocre. There are much better options around town - Toi Shan and Bendigo Dumpling House have the same food options, only better and cheaper.

Wish I could say the good was worth the wait but it wasn't. Average food which took 2 hours to be delivered on a Sunday night! Will be ordering elsewhere in the future.

Food was so much better when they had an unsanitary kitchen. If it's not broke don't fix it. EVERYONE knows the best Asian food comes from the dirtiest kitchens...

Deliciously tasty food. Brilliant service. The new chef puts great flavor punch in his food. Really impressed!!

Got takeaway from here and it was lovely. Was very quick, staff were nice, the food was hot and tasted lovely. Loved the Honey Chicken, the special fried rice tasted great but was a tad dry.

I actually cannot describe how happy this food makes my taste buds - hot, fresh, authentic Chinese.   Best in Bendigo. And they deliver.. fast and friendly.  Highly recommended, they must have an awesome chef.

Best Chinese restaurant in the area. We looked around for a few last night, and this one looks the most authentic. Look a bit old and dark from the outside, but once go inside, very nice atmosphere. Dishes are well cooked with good quality ingredient. Chief's stir fry skill are excellent.

Good Chinese Food, but Service Provision just okay - rating 4 out of 5 stars. Visited the Bendigo Golden Star today for lunch & ordered scallops in ginger and onion sauce. Scallops were served steaming hot (as they should be) along with Chinese vegetables and at $21.80 I thought it good value for money. Service provision was okay but I couldn't help but feel I was being hurried to order, the restaurant is dimly lit & menu is hard to read on coloured paper. From ordering time to time served was 15 minutes although the restaurant wasn't busy. I'll return again when time permits to try their House Combination Omelette. Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Let down after many years. We have been ordering from here for quite a while and have never had a problem. The food was yummy and they always deliver on time. However last night at the very end of the meal in my very last bite I found a piece of metal. I spoke with the manager who said if we bring half the food back he would refund us. He wasn't understanding we had eaten it all and it was the last bite I found the metal. He practically said too bad. If myself or someone else had of swallowed it could have been quite bad. It was a substantial sized piece of metal. We will never order from here again. Its too bad the manager was so rude. He just lost himself a customer sheerly based on his attitude.

Not Impressed. We had the $14.80 lunch special. The chicken and corn soup was lacking in flavour and had the consistency of mucus. Several people at our table chose not to eat it! I had fried wontons for entree which were ok although the prawn inside each one lacked flavour. The accompanying sweet and sour sauce was very thin, almost watery in consistency and was more sour than sweet. I had lemon chicken and fried rice for mains, the chicken was overcooked and the lemon sauce was like orange tang but lemon flavoured. It was thin and fluorescent yellow in colour!! The fried rice was ok. The only positive about this place was the service. Unfortunately I won't be back.......

Astonishing value. We've been eating here almost weekly for some years now. It has ALWAYS been good quality, fresh, fast, tasty and CHEAP. It's staff are enthusiastic and attentive. Newer staff are always keen to learn and it's fun helping them. Yep, its décor is a bit "quirky" but hey, you can't eat that. And at least you know that, with their low prices, you're not paying for it either.

Don't eat there, standards too low.. Went to Golden Star yesterday Thursday 28/08/2014. Ordered the Businessman's lunch special for $14.80. The Chicken and sweet corn soup is a warm jell that looks like mucus. Tasted OK. Entrée was inedible. My husband ordered BBQ pork it was so tough he couldn't eat it. My chicken satay skewers had been overcooked so much that it was rock hard, stuck to the skewers and difficult to eat. Husbands main was Honey chicken was all batter no chicken. Mine was Sweet and sour pork. 6 pieces of battered pork which is the standard amount you get for any of the lunchtime specials. One piece I was swear about to turn, another two of the pieces were so overcooked that the meat inside was black. We have eaten at this place on three other occasions and never had a problem. We will never go back.

My wife is originally from Bendigo and heard that the restaurant had good reviews years ago.<br/>Dine there on Friday night 17/01/2014.<br/>Some table were in the dark some had plenty of light......<br/>On our table I could not see what I was eating?<br/>The wonton soup was average , our kids like their chicken and sweet corn, from there it went downwards the fried rice was dry ...the chicken in black bean sauce and beef Mongolian were too salty...my wife asked the waitress if they used MSG? Yes was the answer...MSG is not banned in Australia but it should.<br/>I asked to speak to the owner but he was delivering.<br/>I would not recommend this place to any body especially if you want to relax and enjoy good food , you might as well stay home and cook for yourself !!!

Staff are polite and helpful,<br/>Food is amazing. I have only had takeaway at this stage but will definitely be returning for more. Non greasy fried rice and beautiful fresh vegetables !

Not going to this restaurant ever again. I had the business lunch package that consist of entre, sweet corn soup and main course. The entre was bbq pork that was just average. the sauce was plain honey. I had to wait 45min for my main course. I asked the food attendant why it took so long. She said she forgot and busy. Strange that the restaurant was not overly busy. They had only 3 tables of customers. She said sorry for few times but it had already spoilt my appetite and my Sunday brunch mood. the main course pork ribs with plum sauce and fried rice.. The sauce was too thick and too sweet. I felt i was eating rice with sugar!

Great Value Range. This is a little hidden gem, The family Packs for $35.00 are great value, and the Lunch time Menu is VALUE for Money.<br/>Great cosy little place for a Good Feed. The Staff are Well Presented and offer Fabulous Friendly Service.<br/>Make sure you try this restaurant for a good Tasty Meal and Value Plus.

TERRIBLE!!!!!. Each time we order home delivery it arrives wrong. Don't dare even ask for a refund or a replacement unless you want to have some rude Asian woman say "Whatever" & hang up the phone! TERRIBLE SERVICE for extremely average food. But the miss-matched ugly compact fluorescent globes in their broken chandeliers are worth a visit, just for a laugh at how bad this place is, but if you dine in make sure you check that your drinking glass doesn't have lipstick on it! (the funny thing is they think they're silver service, lol!)

The food was delicious - fresh, tasty and plentiful. The service was friendlly, helpful and quick. Will definitely come back the next time we are in Bendigo.

Fast delivery, nice fresh food although the satay is not that nice. The honey chicken makes up for it.

Wandered in about 2 pm on a Saturday afternoon looking for a quick yum cha lunch. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was very tasty and very reasonably priced. Would definitely return. Recommend it.
