Review Woodcutters Kitchen - Bentleigh East

Hello. imnikki
It's lovely to have a woodfired bakery near me, making it so much easier for me to satisfy my sweet and carb cravings. The thick and chunky chocolate chip cookie is a classic and you can never go wrong with this. Rich and buttery, and the same can be said for the coffee scroll. For something more fruity, then the zesty lemon meringue tart is a must try. Definitely will be back for more.

The best coffee, really well made. Also had the chicken sandwich and was great! Bought some cheese and honestly the Brie was pretty bad but the blue cheese was delicious, we definitely be back!!

What does freshly woodfired sourdough choc chip cookies taste like? Heaven! What does freshly woodfired sourdough cinnamon scrolls taste like? Pillowy softness with a bit of crisp in the shell and folds of delightfully sticky cinnamon that is not overly sweet. Highly recommend this bakery cafe/restaurant.

Hands down the BEST sandwiches in the area. Fresh toasted bread, generous fillings, and a serving enough for 2 meals. Tried a few different ones and they never disappoint.

DO: Any of the pizzas naturally. DON'T: Takeway if you didn't have to. The fitout and ambience and staff are lovely and you should eat in. However with a little one at home, I didn't want her to scream the restaurant down. TIP: Can pre order and save you the wait however it's only a few metres from home. Winning.

Had hands down the best snack I've had in very long time (which compelled me to do a review). Vegan pizza slice on a beautiful sourdough with a terrific marriage of flavours coming from the olives, tomatoes and the added sweetness of the caramelised red onion. Left me feeling light with an appropriate level of fullness. Highly recommend

Absolutely delicious super fresh bread and fillings. We ordered a variety of sandwiches for takeaway - everything was made to order! They warmed the bread so it just added to the freshness. One of our sandwiches was vegan and our vegan taster said it was one of the best he’d had. They had extensive vegan sandwich options which was extra great as hard to find vegan options in the ‘burbs. We’ve already planned to return next week. Oh and did I mention how enormous the sandwiches are?! Go hungry!

Went here for the first time as I found out they are a Vegan Dairy stockist. They have 4 vegan sandwich options which are made with very large New York Deli style bread! They were both delicious! Shop stocks other grocery items including vegan bacon Crisps... Tasty!

Was dying to go to this place from when I first found out about it because firstly for my love of wood fired food and secondly because my parents owned the milk bar which was it’s previous life in the 80’s. All the pizzas we ordered were spot on and full of flavour and the brownie was to die for. It was great to have a chat to Jim the owner who is so passionate about what he is doing.

After driving past for a few months, we made the conscious decision to try Woodcutters tonight. Both pizzas were great, especially the house made sourdough base, but also the fresh greens on top. Wine and beer list very complete as well.

The coffee here is off the charts! Love this place, wood fired cooling methods are super tasty! Oh and you can have a beer too!

My first venture today (with Miss 11)- massive tick for the granola and the pancakes! Oh, and the hot chocolate and vanilla milkshake. #we'llbeback. (Got takeaway 12 grain for lunch...if I wasn't so full I'd eat some now!)

Cocktails were delish! Try the Pretty in Pink (pink margarita), and the Passion on Mackie (passionfruit mohito). We didn’t eat on this occasion, but the food smelled and looked fantastic. Will probably go back for a meal very soon.

Coffee was fantastic. We shared 2 pizzas and a choc bownie and took home a loaf of fig cherry and raisin loaf. The red sauce fiori di latte pizza lacked a little flavour but was ok. The ricotta pancetta fig pizza was delicious. Fruit loaf was also delicious. Choc brownie was a fav with the kids. Other than a couple of teething issues Woodcutters was great.

Great place that has opened in the ‘Mackie Rd Village’ Atmosphere, food and service were great. I really enjoyed the fact that the bread used in my delicious sandwich was actually baked on the premises.

Delicious food, amazing coffee. The staff are attentive and friendly. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with the owner and can honestly say he is a genuine, Lovely person! The outdoor kids area just what our little strip of shops needed! Thanks for the great atmosphere!

We had dinner there and were impressed with the atmodphere and staff attitude. Then we ordered some amazing dishes that made us very happy.we live within walking distance and this will be a regular for us.

Fabulous venue, staff and absolutely the food! Pizzas are full of flavour with a lovingly made sourdough base and a good accompaniment beer selection from local breweries. This is my new fav local- especially basking in the sun in the courtyard on a Sunday afternoon or morning grabbing a great organic coffee whilst the little one plays in the cubbyhouse. I frequented last year in the mornings and they had pencils/chalk for the kids to draw... I think they got knicked- such a shame! #bringbackpencils #zencolouring

The location has a lovely vibe and staff are fantastic. Love the bread/coffee/pizza and am looking forward to the menu broadening in time.

The food was lovely and service quick. It was a very hot night and no air conditioning yet. We were in a group party so noone minded too much.

Amazing baked pear dessert. Pizzas fresh and generous serves. Lovely fitout.

Come here at least twice a month. Pizzas are incredible. The owner and staff are so welcoming and create a great atmosphere. Local beers and wines that complement the menu. Highly recommend a visit.

Great food, not the biggest of menus which does limit you
We both really felt like a coffee after dinner however they don’t offer skinny milk ? That’s abit odd especially when you have a large coffee machine

A welcoming and very nicely architected inner city style bar/restaurant. Great date night place without having to deal with a drive into the city. Lots of menu options including a range of pizzas and various meat/seafood/vegetarian dishes make use of the double woodfired ovens that sit in view of the dining area. Food is well thought out, creative, uses in season and fresh ingredients, tastes great and there is enough variety to please most. Above average restaurant, and definitely worth a try for some inner city style innovative food without the inner city prices.

Great little restaurant with a warm and cozy vibe.

The mushroom pizza was simple and flavoursome with a great woodfired base, the pan-fried pumpkin gnocchi was pillowy soft with a great balance of flavours, and they offered a lovely selection of wines.

Highly recommended and will be coming back.

If I were to describe this new gem in one word, it would be OUTSTANDING! There were four of us having breakfast. We all had different meals, and we all were flabbergasted by the sensational meals were each had. Top quality ingredients and super tasty. Beautifully presented. Lovely, friendly and very attentive staff. Flawless! And if you need proof that there is a heaven on earth, then order their chocolate brownie – freshly backed upon order, and words fail to describe is deliciousness. Woodcutters Kitchen is above and beyond any café/restaurant experience in the local area and beyond.

We came on a Saturday night, and really enjoyed the pizzas here. The place has a good drinks selection. Would also be nice just dropping in for a drink even if not needing dinner. We'll be coming back for sure.

Leaving a review as this place has potential and I hope management lift their game. Came with 2 toddlers on Sat night and ordered at 5.30pm for an early dinner, there was only one other group of diners at that time. No one greeted us upon entry, eventually I asked a staff member if we could have a table out the back. I fetched 2 highchairs myself, they were filthy. The kids enjoyed playing in the small cubby, but by 6pm with no food arriving they were getting ratty. Hubby checked on pizzas and they hadn't even gone in the oven yet! They arrived about 45min after ordering. If the restaurant wants to be taken seriously as a viable option for early family dinners, food needs to come MUCH quicker. Pizza was fine, not great. vego pizza came with no cheese, I should have checked the ingredients list, but no cheese seems like a major error for a vego pizza.. Roasted chat potatoes were lacklustre and not crispy at all, however my potato loving the kids still enjoyed them.

Surprisingly fantastic dinner at Woodcutters Kitchen. We opted to share a number of the tapas dishes. We selected the halloumi, the chicken wings, the grilled prawns, the slow cooked law shoulder and the Greek salad. Everything was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the chicken wings and the prawns had a great chilli hit. Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant too. Excellent option for suburban dining!

A lovely looking place with a very cool vibe. I was expecting more from the food considering the large prices but was left underwhelmed. Staff were friendly however service was quite slow.

Very good ambiance. Much needed change for the dated row of shops on Mackie road.
Coffee is a bit on the weak side but the bread and sandwiches are good. Pretty kid friendly with a cubby house at the back with home grown tomatoes and herbs.

Let me start by saying this place looks amazing. The owners have done a great job refurbishing. The staff again were friendly helpful and definitely knew the menu. The bread provided was beautiful and full of flavour.
The main meals a train wreck. Just not my cup of tea. Both mains were left 3/4 full on the plate. Couldn't find anything positive about the mains which is a shame

This was the ideal place for a relaxed meal in suburbia. Welcoming decor, high ceilings, a comfortable long wall chair and plenty of space for your kids out the back in the cubby house (I don’t have kids, but my friends tell me how great it is to occupy them). There was an eclectic mix of people and it felt comfortable to show up in some casual weekend attire. There’s an essence of Fitzroy design without a hipster in sight.

I love pizza, wood fired meats & vegetables and delicious drinks, so this place is perfect for me. I’m told that produce is sourced from Victoria, so it’s great to support our local state. My wife and I have been for lunch and dinner. I love it all!

The bread / bases has the texture of cake.

Lunch was great. I’m loving the bacon / egg / chilli jam and will be back for more. Coffee from Dukes is smooth, though I wish they had coconut milk. Toast with almond butter and banana grilled in the oven also hit the spot.

For dinner the interesting pizza toppings kept me intrigued (venison sausage pizza with cherries, onion and salsa verde) absolutely hit the spot. My wife’s porterhouse was also delicious. Desert was great. Breadamisu was original and tasty though I nearly died trying to double with the brownie coz it’s so thick.

Definitely coming back again. It was hot on a summer’s night but when the breeze funnelled down the corridor it made the whole place so comfortable. Took a take away load of 12 seeds / grains home and there is nothing that compares to it.

I can’t often be bothered with reviews but for a new place with huge potential I feel it necessary.

Inexperienced staff doesn’t help an inexperienced bakery. Need to be thoroughly organised before opening, unfortunately this isn’t the case.
Poor food selections for breakfast and dinner
Two mains and 5 pizzas only... nothing that stood out at all. Deer sausage pizza was ok. Garlic cheese loaf thing was terrible. No specials?
How about a pepperoni pizza / prosciutto, rocket and parmesan / lamb and tzatziki / roasted pumpkin, honey and pine nuts / garlic prawn?? You have gone too gourmet with no stand out dishes at all. Customers want simple tasty food.

5 versions of toast for breakfast + granola... Had the preserved lemon one with feta. Quite tasty but do I want to pay $16 for toast??? Customers want more for breakfast!! Baked eggs looked average at best. Where are the other dishes? Maybe do a brekky pizza?
While I understand you are a “bakery” you need to provide more options if you have meals listed on your menu.
Great opportunity to develop something extra special but there is a long way to go.
Oh yeah and a shade cloth out the back would be ideal.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Cool venue and vibe. Friendly staff and a nice outdoor area for the kids.

They are new but the menu is quite limited for a breakfast and brunch spot, it would be great to see more variety.

Looks great from the outside, but that's about it. Latte tasted sour, pancakes were crunchy and generally not nice, baked eggs tasted like tomato paste with eggs on top and $4 for a couple of dried bits of pancetta. The menu is wayyy too limited for us to go back. No bacon and eggs? The baked eggs is the only item with eggs included? A table next to us complained they had been waiting 1 hour and they ordered bang on 9am when service began. I will be back to try the pizza and that is it.
