It's always a pleasure to visit Ajisai. Consistently great food, quality service.
Probably the cheapest sushi roll ever in Melbourne.
I like the cosy warm environment and the lady is always so welcoming.
I recommend my friends to try their sushi.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. Extensive menu with lots of different meat and vegetarian options. Highly recommend the tofu teriyaki. Will be back!

Great service, amazing food, warming environment. For a restaurant to provide amazing food over such a long time (20 years) is testimont to how they believe in their love of food and what they would like to deliver to every customer
If you're walking down Centre Road in Bentleigh and want a fast, cheap option, this is an ideal spot. The sushi hand rolls are by far the cheapest in Melbourne at $1.50-1.80, although soy sauce costs extra. The diameter of the rolls are slightly smaller, but the quality is average and the selection is decent.
Have been coming here for years - a family favourite! Best Japanese food in Melbourne by far - food and hosts are the best and keep me coming back.
Fantastic food at a very high quality for such a small local restaurant. Must try, especially if you're a local and support . The service is very good and friendly. Grilled calamari is highly recommended and in my 9 year old nephews words 'I'm in heaven'.
Absolutely delicious, flawless.
I have been coming here for years and years. I can only offer my opinion on the sushi rolls which are awesome! They are so cheap and have always tasted fresh and to perfection and I have tried all of them! Why pay more when you have the same quality for less!! Good on them for keeping the prices low over the years although they are so popular!! 🤗
Japanese food at a very reasonable price. If you are hungry I would get there at 6pm for dinner to avoid waiting an hour for food. Service is slow because i think it is husband and wife team. Husband cooks and is Sashimi chef and she does everything else.
Stand out dishes are: Agadashi Tofu, grilled mackarel, salted butter fish, tataki beef, sukiyaki beef, seafood stew and sashimi.
Excellent restaurant, has the freshest sashimi and everything is truly authentic Japanese, which is hard to find for a decent price now.
I would recommend the Osuimono soup, beef tataki, grilled beancurd, grilled mackeral and of course the sushi and sashimi platters.
Parking is easy with current road works, just around the corner behind the shops on both sides of centre road.
This restaurant is far too good to share. The sashimi is always really fresh and we've ever had a disappointing meal here. Saturday night we shared a sashimi platter and followed this with Beef Teriyaki and a seafood noodle dish.
The hot sake we accompanied it with was really good.
It was a great meal, and at well under $60 including the sake was excellent value.
Downsides - from outside Ajisai appears a bit dingy, dated and looks closed. Inside a freshen up and new menus to replace the current tatty ones wouldn't go astray.
But still a great meal at a really affordable price.
One of our local favourites. A quiet little place, we've been going here quite regularly for the past few years and have never been disappointed by the food. After sampling various things from the menu we now normally get the sushi and sashimi boat which always satisfies.
The only complaint would be that sometimes when it's busy service can be a bit slow. There's just one woman looking after the place and it can take a while to get to everyone.
Been coming here for years and I'll continue for years to come. The food is awesome and the price is good. A family favourite!! Thanks Ajisai :)
Don't let he appearance fool you ! I Have been coming here since finding this little gem for 2 and 1/2 years now, it's really beautiful food and the afternoon sushi is lovely and always hits the spot. The lady who runs its is always in traditional dress, smiley and recognises her customers, really lovely little place x
I have been going to Ajisai for the last 8 years and it's still one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The prices are very reasonable. Our favorite dish is the sushi boat, it's actually a bamboo boat full of sushi and sashimi
Never tried the other dine in menu except sushi roll, spicy prawn is the best! The other looks not as fresh as it should be but spicy prawn roll is a must try!
Grilled salmon and salad is awesome. I work and live in Sydney and always travel to this restaurant when I'm in Melbourne.
Cheapest sushi in Melb!. Good food, service & atmosphere.
Not overpriced
Drop by after noon, see in widow for the cheapest sushi in Melb! $1.50 & $1.70 each!
Best value takeaway sushi rolls. Very well priced take away sushi rolls, though not a huge variety
Mark of a good japanese restaurant: great, fresh sashimi. Salmon like butter. Tempanyaki was stellar, sushi plate was great. Ambiance & staff were pleasant and attentive. Only draw back was no unagi nigiri on offer, a staple for sushi lovers like me. Overall good dining experience.
Good food but slow. Small restaurant on Center road few steps away from Brighton Railway Station. Providing tasty and nice Japanese food. Friendly staff and keep smile on the face all the time even during busy. The only problem was it took more than half an hour to receive my dishes. Overall tumb up.
A hidden gem! Really delicious and authentic Japanese food. The teriyaki salmon was fresh and delicious!
A hidden gem with great food, reasonable pricing and byo. The owner Maggie is always accommodating and friendly
Really love this unassuming little gem. Fantastic authentic Japanese food at a very reasonable price-point considering the quality of delicacies served. All dishes well balanced and clean flavoured. Owned and operated by a charming, hard-working, husband and wife team, you'll be hard pressed to find a Japanese restaurant of this quality within a 20km radius. Most customers are local repeat ones who know the proprietors' names. You'll need to book. Don't go if you're up for sludgy heavily bottle sauced numbers. Or are in a rush. It has it's own rhythm and you are well looked after if you have a smidge of patience for the yumminess this duo provides.
