Review Little Thai Cafe - Bentleigh

James Violi
While taking a walk we decided on an impromptu dinner and came across a Little Thai cafe we were greeted and served by Maria who went above and beyond she was incredibly helpful, cheerful and prompt in her service, she was amazing. The food was fresh, delicious, full of taste and well cooked. Deeply satisfied with the quantity, quality and atmosphere

Ordered some food, but they gave me wrong items. When I try to inform them about this, they didn’t even bother to apologise. First learn how to listen to your customers and accept when you make a mistake.

I ordered 3 mains from this place, none were particularly good, nor were they terrible. Precooked ingredients we're used. Meat in dishes was dry and tasteless. This is your average Thai place. They can fix dinner but a poor facsimile to the original food in Thailand.
Oshani Marina
Basic Thai food. Ordered Lamb massaman, Chicken green curry and coconut rice. Big portions so value for money just not authentic.

Had a really nice dinner in little Thai cafe the dishes are not very big however plated nice and creative Good variety and choices from menu fast and delicious recommend to check them out !

I don't like writing negative reviews because I like to support local businesses. The food we bought was well below expectations and had to provide feedback. We ordered the mixed entree, roti with peanut sauce, satay chicken (asked for chicken sate stir-fry but got satay sticks), seafood stir-fry with garlic and basil with rice Every dish was overcooked and overfried. The roti was that tough you couldn't eat it. The seafood stir fry sauce was nice but the fish overcooked. Same with the tough chicken sate sticks. They were prompt on delivery time however

Take away order was much worse than dining in. Totally different food. Not enough beef in Pad Thai and a bit plain and dry. Maybe just a bad day, usually the food is great.

Been here twice for dinner. Service is excellent, staff are friendly. The serving sizes are great. Atmosphere can be quite noisy, being a small restaurant. The taste was excellent the first time however the second it wasn't as tasty. Need to work in the food consistency.

Where do i start, such a delicious restaurant that has become our go-to. My family orders from here once a week and every time we are beyond satisfied. Such immaculate flavours and well priced too. Really cant fault them as well with the fast delivery times. Order directly from them too. All the staff are lovely, the chef is great too. I love ordering with my family from here as they have soemthing for everyone, my dad gets spicy curries and my sister gets the kids fried rice while we all share a noodles and rice (typically pad thai, pad see ew and/or fried rice). So happy to know that this restaurant exists, so highly recommend everyone try!

Love the vegetarian Thai green curry and quite reasonably priced. Have always had very friendly service.
Nicole Peeler
Lovely little local place, always popular. I have eaten here a few times it is consistently good. I love the soups and fish cakes, its very reasonably priced.
Sig
Love this place, food is full of flavour, service is great, I’m not sure why they call themselves a cafe , as they are not , this place is easy and casual and reasonably priced

Used to be really good food, but now it is below average. The peanut satay tastes like grease, not satay, and the curries similarily seemed oily versus creamy, with a not very nice taste. We ordered shrimp as the protein in one of our dishes, but discovered it to be tofu instead when opened it at home (take-away). We used to scramble to get our portion before others, but now sadly looks like we’ll be tossing a lot of leftovers.

Little Thai Cafe is a small, long-standing restaurant with all those traditional classic Thai dishes you’ll love. So firstly, let’s make it clear, Little Thai Cafe is most definitely a restaurant. It’s comfortable, small and does a great take away trade too. Being a feature...

This place used to be a gem. Not sure what’s happened but the food is tasteless. Would not recommend going here.
Terrible service. Would not come back.

Found this restaurant on entertainment book and 3 of us came here on a Friday night. Very small local Thai restaurant. All tables are very crowded. A smiley lady greeted us and led us to a 2 people table with an extra chair at the tiny corner. We asked if we can sit at the 4 people table. She said yes. However after we sat down, a male staff came over and told us this table is for 4 people only and asked us to move. Really? Later the night they ended up allocating that 4 people table to another group of 3.

3 of us ordered 4 dishes, 2 Thai iced milk tea and 1 rice. The portions are tiny. We are small eaters so the right amount of food for us. The food was ok. Penang curry sauce tasted nice and was good to eat with white rice. However the chicken breast pieces were hard and dry. Kana Moo Krob was good too but the down side was the pork belly skin. It was chewy and a bit oily. The prawn salad tasted nice even though it was the smallest salad I’ve eaten. It had more prawn than leaves so I guess that’s a good thing. Not complaining. The claypot with prawns and vermicelli was ok ish. Sauce was too sweet though. The Thai iced milk tea tasted diluted. Not much taste in it.

Overall it was an average restaurant. Probably won’t come again if we don’t have the entertainment book voucher. Would rather go to Sumalee down the other side of Centre Road. It has a lot better food and bigger portions.

By the way I just realized their delivery pricing is a lot cheaper than dine in. One of our dishes is $5 cheaper on Menulog.

Great food at this restaurant. I’ve not been able to eat in as yet but it looks like it has good atmosphere and the staff are very nice. The dishes I have gotten take away are excellent and I’d highly recommend.
Bagelhutzy
Beautiful, authentic Thai food packed with flavour. Ambience to this little restaurant is relaxed and beautiful with the traditional Thai decor. It could do with expanding, as you are very closely cramped to the tables next to you and it can get crowded and noisy which takes away from the relaxing experience.

I’m a long term customer of this restaurant but was so disappointed this eve when I rang at 7pm to order my home delivery..girl could not understand English at all and at the end says no problem I’ll find your add by your number on our system...now 50 mins later & no food - so I ring back and get told it was never ordered! Why don’t they have someone who can at least understand when u ring up? Not good at all - don’t think I’ll waste my time or money there ever again...and eating there is just as bad - takes ages for your order to arrive! Don’t go there - better Thai restaurant next door!

Excellent, excellent, excellent super yummy Thai Food. We love this place because my partner and I first met here a few months ago. The staff remembered us made us feel special for coming back. The food is served quickly with amazing flavours and quality presentation. It will be our regular now. Its BYO and licensed.

Great little Thai restaurant. Had the Tom Yum soup with prawn, red duck curry, Thai basil beef and a noodle with prawn and squid from the specials board. All were very nice with great flavor. Meals were generous with their meat.
A goto in Bentleigh.
Sean Peeps
A nice little place. It is some of the better Thai that i have had. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed and it has decent service. Nice spring rolls, green curry and soups.
Simon Rose
We had a really delicious Thai take away. Green coconut curry was great, and the eggplant stir fry was delicious. Also enjoyed the Thai salad. The food was extremely flavoursome and was really enjoyed. Special mention also for how fast they were.
Sigrana
The food is fine BUT THE PRICES SHOWN ON YOUR ONLINE MENU ARE FAR CHEAPER THAN ON THE MENU IN THE RESTAURANT!!! THAT IS DECEIVING AND COMMERCIALLY INCORRECT!! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT OR I WILL CONTACT CONSUMERS AFFAIRS.
Update on the 24th of December 2018: the food USED to be good. I am really sorry to have to say that it is not any longer. Terrible mixed entrée, including a revolting minced lamb fat fried thing, pad thai main tasteless, with small and really stringy prawns really. I could not finish it. What a pity!

Don't know if we turned up on a particular bad evening but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. The service was poor, the restaurant was freezing and the food was cold and tasteless. Will not be returning.
Signor-Gastronomico
Dined here the other day and found it to be an enjoyable experience. Nice interior and good enough service. It was a quiet night and our dishes came out promptly (I've heard this eatery gets busy on the weekend). I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and my friend ordered the Chicken Pad See Ew. I couldn't fault my dish, aromatic, tasty, well cooked noddles and succulent chicken. I liked the citrusy textures it gave off too. My friend said his dish was fine but that he'd had better. We ordered some Roti with the peanut sauce and that was delish too, the sauce was so yummy. I am not by any means a connoisseur in this cuisine, but I would return. However, I think the servings don't 'fill' me up. They weren't small but I was still hungry after. Price was ok, cheaper than most Thai places which are horridly overpriced. I still get the feeling for like $15 plus dish, I'd expect the servings to be a little more substantial (Roti $3 each were a little on the small side). If I'm in the mood and in the area willingly I'd go again, having said that, there are many other Thai places I'd want to try in this vicinity before going back. Just got past that 3.5 mark due to the great flavours.

Great little reliable thai in East Bentleigh. We usually get the roti, pad thai chicken, and green curry. Friendly and fast! This is a regular stop for us.
Bianca Ross
Nice food.. not the most amazing Thai food but well priced and no major complaints. No major stand outs. though. Staff were friendly. Not sure if i would rush back here though
Michael Fitzpatrick
The service is very attentive and menu options are your standard Thai fare. Flavours are excellent, I really enjoyed the sweet and sour stir fry and they also have jungle curry on the menu which you can't find everywhere. Recommend and I will be coming back regularly.

Food is very delicious here!! Great atmosphere. I have been here many times. It is a very unique little place in Bentleigh. I recommend everyone.
Suckseed
I have been here many time ,food always great and delicious also the service here it the best always serve me like god,I'm not surprised why here customers a lot special on the weekends,I recommend if want to come to have dinner here you supposed to make booking!!
The menu that I recommend are " Crispy cashew nut chicken" and "Gai pag ngar" :)
Ryan Fisher
Disappointed with the food that we received. The food look and tastes like it came out of a bain marie. The only thing that saved this from being a complete disaster was the Tom Yum soup. Overall bellow average.
Danny Kuper
I went to this restaurant 1 month ago it's veryyy good I never eaten Thai food like this I ate Pad Thai with prawn and another meal green curry with chicken I very love it so next time I have to go again :)
Manal Wish
Great place with good service. I usually get takeaway from here if I can't be bothered driving to Carnegie. The chicken fried rice is the best going around, and the curries are also good. I usually get a red curry and it has a good level of spice my taste buds. The curry puffs are awesome. The noodle dishes are okay but not the best.
Biggiechee
Great little Thai gem hidden in Bentleigh. I went with a friend who is vegetarian but we managed to find good options. Tried the vegetable curry with tofu and a salad. Both service quality and food was great! Will definitely come back again!
Droolfactor
Ordered the Pad Se Ew with prawn and Tofu veg soup. Both dishes were flavoursome but the downside was the added MSG most likely in the soup. After dinner I found myself with a headache, fever, lethargic and dehydrated and had to lie down for an hour. The cabbage was also cut too chunky and uneatable. I will not return. The Thai restaurant a few doors down is better.
Hula Jarmusch
Agree with previous comments about this place being a western friendly version of Thai. extremely sweet and not spicy what so ever. I found the red duck curry too sweet to finish. But it's a popular place, staff are great, just not my kind if Thai.
Jetgirl_Jetboy
Best Thai I've had in a while. Food/drinks were very reasonably priced and everything that was ordered tasted great: fresh, flavourful, perfectly cooked. Service was super quick despite being quite full and only 2 floor staff. Friendly and efficient, will definitely be going here again/ ordering take out. Found my new favourite thai place in the neighbourhood!
Abby
Yum!. Beautiful tasty Thai food at a great price. Have been 3 times and will continue dining there. Friendly staff also. High recommended!!! Must try stir-fried crispy chicken with cashew nut !!!!
Zomatino
Ordered Pad Thai, Panang Curry and Tom Yum Soup along with some rice. Pad thai was a big disappointment, have had much better at other places. Taste was very bland. The Panang curry and the soup on the other hand were really good, seems like a place that places more emphasis on curries. Both of them were really flavourful and hit the spot. Had ordered online and paid as well but when the guy came he requested to be paid cash, but left once told had already paid. When unpacking found the receipt that had Paid written on it. Also, found the lid of the curry was open and it had spilled all over the place, this happened even though they had to travel only 5 mins to deliver. Not very good service.

A warm, welcoming atmosphere. Staff friendly. Masaman curry was beautiful, beef was super tender. Pad Thai was very nice, lots of chicken and peanut throughout. Service is a little slow but if you catch the waitress's attention she will attend to you straight away. They have a 25% of bill deal in the entertainment book. I would go back again.

WORST RESTAURANT IVE EVER BEEN TOO
Where do I start.
Sat down to a filthy table cloth which I stripped off and asked to have replace and they never did.
Was never asked if we wanted drinks or took our drink order.
We had go and ask for bottles of water continuously as no table service.
After waiting for an hour we had to go up and ask where our food was. Then 3 soups out of 12 came out then another until it took more asking for everyone to get their soup.
We had to go up once again and ask when and where was our food for our banquet. Not till we told them we were leaving did our food come out.
We had to go up and ask for everything as they never came to our table for service. It even got to the point were we passed the dishes down the table and piled them up as they weren't clearing our table and we were eating amongst dirty dishes.
The banquet food all had the same taste to it. Runny, coconut, spicey. One dish tasting like that is fine but the who banquet was getting repetitive.

If it wasn't for great friends having a few laughs the night would have been a ride off. I wish I never ate their food or visited that restaurant and think they did not deserve the $32ea for the banquet (x 12 people). The Little Thai Cafe spoilt a lovely birthday celebration with the girls and made it a very hard working stressful occasion.

I've never experienced a restaurant as bad as this and hope I never will again. Waste of time and money.
James Samuel
The food was amazing and as thai goes it was brilliant although the timing of the food by the kitchen/waiters was poor. Mind I still loved the food!!👍👍👍😀😀😀😈💩

Nice Thai restaurant in bentleigh! The curries are really great, stands out as one of the best I've tried in Melbourne. Service could improve sometimes but otherwise very good!
Js9127
The best Thai I've EVER had!!
Do yourself a favor and order the satay skewers followed by the best Massaman Curry you'll find in Melbourne.
I'll never go anywhere else ever again.
Sougata Chatterjee
I ordered a curry but they gave me a soup which tasted like hospital food. The lamb dish was nicely burnt to retain it in my memory forever. The fried rice was oily and the rice used was probably home brand jasmine but I had to eat it as I couldn't eat anything else. Make sure you give it a big miss.
Martin
We had the banquet for two .All food served was delicious and very authentic.Presentation was excellent ,portions generous and piping hot temperature wise! Not noisy! Will return.

Is this the same restaurant that has so many good reviews?. Perhaps it was the usual chef's or waitress's day off but first of all a different dish to the one I ordered arrived. I had only ordered a single dish while my dining companions had ordered a banquet and were already tucking in. By the time my correct dish arrived, I was famished and disappointingly found the meal to be pretty greasy. I was with others who were eating so i couldn't very well get up and go. I indicated my dissatisfaction to the waitress who apologized that i hadn't like it. I won't be returning.

Little Thai Cafe is the first choice for many of my friends local to Bentleigh. This little spot has popped up in our conversations countless times, and I decided it was about time I see what all the fuss was about.

SELLCO. I was there last week and i think this little Restaurant has got it all .The food was good the service was good and very fair prices I will be back

Fantastic Thai food!. Best Thai food i ever have in Melbourne. Little Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurant. Had a take away ordered the food was hot and delicious. Also for dine in very good service and friendly. Very tasty food and delivery on time no longer than 50 mins. Highly recommended and for sure i will order from them again. Thanks for fantastic food guys.

Best thai restaurant. Little thai cafe is one of my favorite thai restaurant in melbourne. Best quality of foods, great service, tasty foods and the foods was serve no longer than 7 mins. if i have to recommend a restaurant to someone i will recommend this restuarant. Good work guys !!

Quality has dropped significantly. I have only ever ordered take away from this place. I wouldn't class the food as "out of this world", but it used to be somewhat satisfying, if you really can't be bothered cooking one night.

However the food last night was so bad, I couldn't believe how the quality had degraded to such an extent. The chicken skewers were terrible (I threw them out) and the vegetarian pad thai was tasteless (no wedge of lime or lemon included, even adding my own didn't make the food taste any better).

My partner has an upset stomach today. Wouldn't be surprised if it was caused by the cheap quality of ingredients used. I certainly won't be ordering from here again.
Courtney.mcredmond
Phenomenal. This is the second time my partner and I have dined at this restaurant. The food has been absolutely delicious on both occasions. We will definitely be going back. We ordered a banquet which we don't usually do and devoured it all. The flavours were amazing. The staff were very friendly. Little Thai is also BYO. I will definitely be recommending this restaurant to my friends.

Avoid if you can or come if not hungry. Waste of Saturday night time in terms of food. probably the worst experience for a looong time.feels like everything comes from opening supermarket cans and ready made sauses.you eat "something" and no idea what it is. stupid premixed filled no taste not to match ingredients.
anyway,if you after friendly service, nice looking locale place, you go and sit and talk, but do me favour :"don't order food"
Laura
Poor service and food. I usually don't write reviews but I was very disappointed so felt I should. I ordered pick up here last Friday, was first told they had no spring rolls left (at 6.30pm). Proceeded anyway and told our order would be ready in about 25mins, Got there about half an hour later and was told it wasn't ready and would be in 5mins, another 20mins passed before we finally got our food. Massaman beef was not good at all, beef was tough and clearly not simmered for hours as stated on the menu, chicken scewers were tough and gristly. pad Thai was ok. Wont be going back!
Ian Nisbet
Best Thai in the area but in-restaurant service can be very slow, especially during peak periods. Home delivery is available and often faster then eating in. But, again, absolutely the best Thai around here and totally worth the wait if there's enough conversation to keep you entertained.

Posting service feedback in the hope that the staff will read it and make such a great restaurant even better. :)
Tamara Epshtein
ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. Firstly .... ABSOLUTE DISGRACE.
Firstly the service by the only waitress was absolutely discusting. Some food was missed and when we asked there is zero acknowledgement from her, instead she just yells out to the kitchen to make it. No apology nothing. The effort to get the table water was pathetic, a roll of the eyes was given and the water dumped on the table.
WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN
POOR SERVICE
HORRIBLE STAFF
FOOD VERY AVERAGE
NOT A FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE
Aggiekobe
Very good. Ordered their set menu B. nice food. Impressed with Massaman Gai, satay & Tom soup, not a fan of their stir-fries. Good services as well. Bit noisy though. Like the first page of the menu to learn from Thai. Cute!
Daniel Peacock
Yum. Nice as food :)
Nattypea
A favorite local spot of ours.
We love their vegetarian options.
Super fast, super tasty and super fresh!
Great value also.

Good local Thai. This has been my local Thai restaurant for many years. Always pretty good service, nice food and very reasonable prices. Can get busy on Fridays and Saturdays with lots of takeaways but never have to wait too long. My favourites would be the mixed entree, Massaman beef and Thai red curry with chicken.
Maybecat
Beef soup. Take away beef massaman was like a soup with a couple of stingy beef pieces in it. no good. Go to sumalee down past bentleigh station. few bucks more, but much better quality
Anitasbean
Great Thai. I love this little cafe. Our regular weekly stop for some really good thai food.
Little Spoon
One of the better Thai restaurants. We've been to a fair few Thai restaurants and this is one has always been consistently good. The food is of high standard & we usually default to eating here if we can't find another a new place to eat on any given night. The staff have always been friendly and accommodating. We are impressed with the food every time we go there.

Highly recommend it! There's a reason why they're so busy all the time.
Flaming Goose70
Good service however a big NO NO to the food. Chicken satay skewers were very fatty chicken and raw inside. We asked them to recook them but there was no real improvement. They said they would offer us rotti bread instead and in the end they charged us for them. Very ordinary food. We went on a Saturday night, the restaurant was full and it became very noisy. With the food being this poor I can't understand why it was full? I guess the diners have never tried better. Sorry not coming back.
Pinky11
Tasty!. We regularly order home delivery from this restaurant. The food is always fresh and tasty and arrives hot and on time.

Their chicken skewers are a favourite in this household!
Kim Hennig
Fantastic food and the service was great. Even the kids said food was great.
Judy
Very nice makeover to an old fav. The Little Thai Cafe has been a favourite in our family for the last 10 years it never disappoints.
They have recently renovated the place and is looking a whole lot better than it did in the picture featured.
We always get the curry puffs and the massaman chicken and they are both exceptional. Cheap, delicious food and friendly staff
Andrea
Little thai, Little ripper!. Good service, good food! Food was served fast and was delicious. Only problem was we need to not order a main each as we were too full afterwards. We will definately go back again. Massaman curry and the sweet and sour fish were equally good as was the moo yang.
C Cooper
Really surprised by the people saying the service was poor - we had a lovely young girl serving us who could not have been more attentive or polite. Thoroughly lovely experience, and cracking food, to boot. Definitely happy to make this my new local. 60 bucks for 3, with enough left over for takeaway.... I feel we made out of there like bandits. :-) A plus.
Michael Lee
Decent price, decent food. .... Decent price, decent food.
Went there on a weekday. The waiting time between courses on the set menu was HORRIFIC; all up spent 2 hours waiting for and intermittently eating.
Leish
Been here twice and will keep coming back. People are nice, food is awesome, coconut rice is amazing! I would also highly recommend the Penang curry, red curry, pud gratiem prik tai (stir fry with garlic and pepper)!
Mark Helding
This restaurant served great food but failed when it came to service. The service failures resulted in wrong meals coming to the table (we ate the meals regardless) as well as wrong quantities. The only other annoying which is really related to how parents look after their kids is that we had a table full of young kids placed next to us unsupervised. This resulted in a noisy meal which put a slight dampener on what was nice food
Foodmonger83
Mediocre. It was a very cheerful bustling restaurant, a much needed boost to the boring Bentleigh East shopping strip...however the food wasnt too great...The massaman beef consisted of just sliced beef and it wasnt tender at all...the portions were quite small...however they served a great tom yum soup...
Lyn Main
Best massaman curry ever. Great meals for whole family. Friendly service, Highly recommended!
Chilli Con Incarnate
Little Thai Big Flavour. Little Thai Café is just that, the small building however hosts some excellent Thai food, Thai curries are excellent and some very good fried options are available. If the specials board says "chilli beef" then order it! Naan bread was also delicious. Service was not bad and they give reasonable portions. Well worth it.
Holly Lloyd Loncaric
Love love it!! Best restaurant in east bentleigh! It became my favourite go to restaurant. They deliver and have take away.
Karen
Love it!. Consistently great food and it always arrives quickly (delivery). Our local fave!!
Stuart Edwards
One of the best Thai restaurants this side of the yarra. Very reasonable prices, good quick service and very ,very tummy food. Happy to go back there again and again.
