Excellent food with a European flavour, delicious spaghetti marinara that my husband declared was the best he'd ever eaten. Attentive and friendly service from Alex, whose wife does the cooking. And the best part of it is that it's not noisy and you can hear yourself think! A hidden gem in Centre Rd Bentleigh.
Brought my parents here during their visit and my mum ordered the Seafood Marinara which she absolutely loved (plus points to the dish presentation!) and I had the Lamb Shank which was superb. 👌🏻 Had a lovely evening at this restaurant.
Champagne Charlize This restaurant is amazing. Total gem in Bentleigh. Can’t believe it took me so long to find this place. Alex and Eve have been running restaurants for over 50 years and have it down pat. The menu is billed as European and Alex and Eva’s heritage is evident in the choice of dishes. Chicken soup with matzoh balls, cabbage rolls and goulash all feature. But my favorites are the Seafood Chowder and the Seafood Marinara shown below). Not to say that the other items aren’t good. The pumpkin, sweet potato and coconut soup is seriously good. The crepes filled with roast duck are another outstanding entree.
What a little Gem! Great food, lovely restaurant with carpeted floors, so quiet. Run by a gorgeous husband and wife team. Service was quick and friendly. It's as if you are in their kitchen at home. Prices very reasonable as well. Their seafood Paella was absolutely overflowing with seafood and the Duck was perfect. Definitely coming back.
Really enjoyed dining here. Great service and beautiful food. It’s managed by an older couple and they do a great job. Do yourself a favour and try it out.
Very nice place - quiet, clean, great food. Went there today with my wife, were greeted by the owner - polite soft-spoken gentleman. Ordered a roasted duck and flathead fillet with chips and side salad. Food arrived fast, tasted delicious. Prices - reasonable. Coming back definitely!

Very last minute booking. Info via Southern FM (88.3). First time there. VERY glad we made the decision to go. Fully booked and not noisy. Traditional Christmas Lunch. Choice of 3 mains with ALL the trimmings. A nice touch was that Eve (chef) visited all tables to have a chat. Alex took the time also to visit all tables. We where made to feel part of his family. Almost forgot, the food was excellent 12/10. PLEASE keep up the excellent work. Definitely be back in the New Year.
I celebrated my birthday at Champagne Charlize on 29 July 2018 with a group of 12 family and friends. We started with French champagne and beers from the extensive drinks list... with bruschetta and garlic bread to share, followed by choice of soup. Then my guests had their choice of main courses from the menu and they selected an array of dishes including risotto, barramundi, lamb shank, rack of lamb, double-roasted orange-glazed duck and the amazing BBQ American spare ribs. All this accompanied by some quality red and white wines from the wine list. Eve and Alex then presented a beautifully decorated selection of desserts with fresh fruit to share. Every one of my guests sent me a message saying how much they enjoyed the food and the service. It really was a beautiful way to celebrate a milestone birthday and I thank Eve and Alex for helping to make it such a success.
I used to be a fan of Eve and Alex when they ran their beautiful "Number 1 Cafe" at the old garden centre on the corner of Centre Road and Hampton Street, Brighton. With the nursery now demolished, I was delighted to find that Alex and Eve had moved just down the road and opened "Champagne Charlize". I dine here at least three times a week, because the food is fantastic. I've been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there's always something new to try or the old favourites to tempt the tastebuds. My favourites include the cooked breakfast, seafood chowder, double-roasted duck, authentic wiener schnitzel and the exquisite Rack of Lamb.
