Review La Porcheta - Bentleigh

Primary School Kid
Overall it was a nice surprise when I came from school. We got pesto pasta, Cannelloni and with the pasta they give some bread. The pasta was great in taste and surprisingly good even after it was cold. The only tiny thing I would say would be too much oil, not a huge deal but it was so much it could fill a mini swimming pool 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣. Cannelloni was super good, didn't even know such thing. I thought it was spinach and ricotta roll in sauce 🤣. And bread was a nice side. in my opinion --4.9

I visited here for dinner, and the place was super quiet. Apparently, it's really busy on weekends. The staff were friendly, and the food was quick to arrive at the table. Fresh, hot, and delicious. A great family restaurant with an excellent atmosphere.

We received an incorrect order and Lou went above and beyond to rectify. Even hand delivering the pizzas to our house himself! Best La Porchetta in Melbourne! Amazing customer service.

We had the most popular meat ball spaghetti, spaghetti Pascatore and Caesar salad. The meat ball spaghetti and Ceasar salad are pretty normal in my opinion. Spaghetti Pascatore was the only highlight of our meal. Anyways waiting staffs were quite nice and helpful.

It's so dark, put the lights in during the day. Service was quite poor, not the staffs fault, just so under staffed. Maybe it's short staffed due to Covid but I saw just 3 people working for a Sunday lunch. A few easy improvements could be made

Service was excellent from the young lady serving us. Food was above average. However the owner had an awful personality, and really needs to adjust the way he talks to and treats his young staff. Disgusting behaviour on his part. Won't be coming back.

Purchased a vegan pizza, when it arrived it had a fishy flavour. Checked and it had anchovies on it. After calling to let them know I wasn’t interested in money back but to simply let them know It had happened they proceeded to tell me the chef said that he didn’t put them in there in a really accusatory tone. I was told the vegan ham sometimes has a “funny smell”… also not very reassuring… I have been vegetarian for 12 years. vegan for 1. Respectfully I know vegan meat from fish and can tell a potato from a carrot. I told them they were definitely fish and asked if maybe they had a fish substitute and that was what I was tasting to which they replied “no, no fish sub” at this point I was dumbfounded and realised they weren’t interested in listening or helping and the chef being right was now the focus of the conversation. After feeling a bit gaslit I asked my family and they said they were definitely anchovies. I couldn’t eat it and ended up throwing it out. They offered no help, no understanding, and I walked away feeling a little gaslit, having waisted my money and time. grateful they have a vegan menu, shame in my experience they haven’t treated it as an option to be respected like any other.

We were the only two customers dining in until another couple arrived. Pizza’s were underwhelming with one being just acceptable but edible and the other being inedible. The whole place looks sad and in need of a good clean and coat of paint. Eaten at a few La Porchetta restaurants and this is by far the saddest, sad decor, sad atmosphere. Actually, it’s the saddest eating establishment in the area and would not be missed if it closed. The manager however, has a very high opinion of his restaurant, his pizza, his menu and himself as we could hear everything he had to say about ‘everything’ from our table. Will finish with a tip for said manager, wash your hands occasionally if you’re handling food.

Cute little restaurant, very fast and polite service. Food came out fast as well. Highly reccomend the eggplant chips, very interesting. Serving size very generous, had to take away some food which they had takeaway boxes perfect size for different food. One of the rare places we find which serve tortellini. Pizza had generous amounts of toppings. Will definitely come back for some pasta cravings.
Sameera
Tried their pepperoni pizza, and wasn't a fan at all! Base is too thick, almost no cheese, and the salami pieces were hard and not good at all.

So dissatisfied. Never have I had a veal scallopine with cream based vino Bianco sauce. It was flavourless and it was breaking down on the plate. The veal was dry as was the veal of my partners veal schnitzel. The coke post-mix was not at all good and it was warm. The bill for 4 was $130.00 which was no where close to value for money.

I used to eat at La Porchetta alot when I was in University and haven’t been back in years. Recently I came here and had what I always used to have which is the chicken and avocado fettucine. I was pleasantly surprised to see they still had it on the menu. The pasta was softer than al dente which suits me because I like it that way. It was also very saucy. It still tastes like old times!

Yea, it was ok, no complaints, my pizza was enjoyable, and am looking forward too my take away pasta, seems like a good family restaurant especially young kids

Been to this venue 3 times in the past year. Like it as the staff are very attentive, polite and the food is good for what you pay. Always go with the kids and it is nice to be able to get in and out quickly without having to sit around and wait for food. Never had an issue and is an excellent family friendly option. Frustrating to think that I pay like twice as much for pizzas in other areas of hampton in restaurants yet the service is nowhere near as good as what I get at this location. On average I would not have to wait more than a few minutes to be asked what we would like and during the meal they do pass by and ask if we want anything else.

My rating is purely based on the value in terms of service and food that I get for my money.
HogUp
Their pizzas are good not so much a fan of anything else the ambience is good ... a little noisy but decent for a good evening chilling place
Hanna Wilson
Spaghetti and meatballs only came with 2 meatballs and sauce had a toxic taste to it. Pizza was also horrible and option for a thin base is no longer available. Over the last five years of going there the food and service have gotten worse. Never going back there again!
Chandnidugal
The food here tastes like cardboard. Did not have a pleasant experience at all.

The restaurant was fairly empty and dingy.

Do not bother wasting your time and money!
JW
Without being obnoxiously rude and overbearing, I would strongly suggest opting for an alternative Italian restaurant to this, or any other La Porchetta restaurant. The food served is absolutely loveless, heavily processed, and unimaginative at best.
The pasta: overcooked and unsalted.
The pizza: dry and bland.
The portions: unnecessarily large and unappealing.
The decor: unfortunate and dusty, with large empty spaces.
Whether you are a family, a couple, single, or have children, there are SO MANY other options available for you. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.
La Ola Es Mia Cocina.
Name needs to be changed to La Forgetta, as it’s definitely a forgettable experience.

Horrendous food by unimaginable proportions !!

Definitely avoid at all costs and save your money and try elsewhere.

The Dear Luncher
What was that TV show, where if you stopped watching it for years and then resumed watching, you still knew what was happening? Was it Neighbours? La Porchetta is kind of like that. Even if you haven't eaten it for years the taste is still more or less the same. The Dear Luncher recently experienced La Porchetta for the first time in nearly a decade and that's what it felt like. Does the job, but you're not going to hurry back are you? See you in another ten years, ragazzi.

Manager was pathetically rude, arrogant, and intimidating after I confronted him with trying to charge me an additional $3something, and credit card surcharge. Wont' be going back again!
Foodcritics
Geez, I have trouble remembering if la porchetta is Italian or Chinese. My $21 risotto tasted like water downed Chinese congee with frozen seafood.

Another big restaurant chain that's only known for their pizza due to the others items not being good.

Environment 3, looks like your typical food chain sort of place, clean, but very plain and outdated.

Service 3, they are nice but most waitresses were only half there, they had just finished screwing up the order on the table next to us and the manager was sorting it out. When we paid they could not work out our table number and did not mention they charge for credit card, there was no sign either.

Taste 7, we got a mushroom pizza which was very good and a Hawaiian which was good also.

Quality 7, they were packed with toppings, very good.

Serving size 6, decent serving size. Price is fair.

Total 26

We will go back, someday.

Info:
My rating scores are out of a total of 50, 10 for environment, 10 for service, 10 for taste, 10 for quality, 10 for serving size and price.

I ordered take away a gluten free gnocchi napoletana and a tortellini mushroom. I go pick it up and drive home to find that the gnocchi has been replaced with a completely different type of pasta. I call to let them know at which point they tell me that they do not have gluten free gnocchi, after already confirming on the phone originally that they did. When I picked up the food nobody told me that they had changed the type of pasta. When I now drive back to get non gluten free gnocchi, which I didn't really want, the manager calls over the girl who answered the phone originally and belittle's her for giving the wrong information. He then offers me the pasta they gave me originally and a box of ice cream. I asked him for a $4 refund because I was not receiving gluten free, which he gave me. All I really wanted was gluten free gnocchi and now I have ended up with two pastas I didn't really want and had to drive twice and spend 45 minutes for no reason.Obviously mistakes get made but to not tell someone when they pick up their food that it has been completely changed is ridiculous. Also don't have a menu which says you offer something and then not offer it. All they had to say originally on the phone is that they did not offer it and this whole situation could have been avoided.
Who Loves Good Food
Hit & miss. Love & hate. Inconsistent quality & service. Portion size is generous but it end there. Our fav: Chicken Mushroom Risotto, Chicken Schnitzel, The Lot Pizza & desserts.
Stuart Drury
Went with a few friends recently, and we all regretted it. The food was bland, service was poor and overpriced. There are far better places to eat in the area so don't waste your money.
Lets Talk About Food
Food was alright. Ordered the Aranchini balls and the Gnocchi Bolognese. There were only two balls drenched with meat sauce, was really soggy to eat. Gnocchi didn't seem cooked really well, as it was still doughy on the inside. To add to that there wasn't much sauce with the Gnocchi therefore it had tasted a little bit bland.
Emily
Not a good experience at all. The food was inedible almost, and the service was clearly understaffed and uncaring. I have to been to la porchetta's that are great. This isn't the one.

I've been here twice for steak. I thought the first terrible experience must have been a fluke but nope the steaks are terrible. It tastes like it was made by a chef who just doesn't care. The presentation of food on the plate was revolting where my steak was suffocating under an avalanche of mushroom sauce competing for space with a mountain of what seemed to look like Maccas fries. One positive I would say is the waitress serving me. Then again, the "exciting" lunch crowd of merely 2 occupied tables meant average service at best by default.
Very disappointing.

We organized our daughter's 6th bday party at the venue. The whole experience was great - kids enjoyed making their own pizza, the staff was really helpful when kids needed another scoop of ice cream (after dropping on the floor their first scoop) or another glass or a plate. Parents were happy with pizzas too - although some pizza varieties had a bit too many olives. Overall was great experience - kids didn't want to leave at all!

Worse experience ever had .
From Stuff to food , the stuff did not have a clue what there were doing not training no help .
we all got our meals separate no time framing at all .
We had there stuff returning to our table 4 times asking us how would u like the meat cooked , then comes back and ask us what sauce would u like on your meat, wait that's not all then she comes back and say sorry we run out of bread ? They just started serving dinner and ran out of bred??.
First and last time I I'll be coming here .

La Porchetta's franchising business has gone down faster than a lead balloon, and this establishment is no different. Basic, bland, boring pizza and pasta with no Italian mumma love and soul. In an area that prides itself on its Greek and Italian heritage, there are plenty of better offerings locally.
Boris.kolar
Still love Italian. Reggio calabria pizza is the winner
Must try item.
Toni McGrath
Im glad they closed most of the la porchetta franchises, these days!. Never again. Worst food. If you want to go cheap, buy a loaf of bread from coles.
Laspi
No more La Porchetta. We have ordered PIZZA Marinara. The pizza was ready quickly because there was no people on Monday.
The pizza was taken home. We never eat such rubbish. The seafood was not recognisable, the taste
nothing like seafood. Absolute crap.

Dined here last week and the service was excellent. Very friendly staff, food was excellent and generous portion sizes. A wonderful atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed a night out with the girls here. Would highly recommend!

I've been to this La Porchetta before and I wasn't so Impressed. Staff were very unprofessional and food was average. But I decided to give this place another chance and to my surprise the food and service was great. I was also given a complementary basket of bread and butter.

The pizza is pretty good and not too expensive.

The worst pizza I've ever had in my life. I ordered a gourmet vegetarian pizza and a bowl of chips. The chips were saggy and not cooked properly. Sloppy pizza base, very greasy, too much of toppings and the ingredients didn't seem to be fresh. The sundries tomatoes had no taste as if they were sitting there on the shelf from last one month. Every single person serving came and asked every 5 minutes if I need anything. It was the worst customer service, very unorganised. The owner sitting from a distance kept looking at me an it was so uncomfortable. The whole experience was just sad!! Not recommended!! I'm afraid of getting food poisened. Wish me luck.

We had fantastic service. It was well past the little ones bedtime and we needed food stat! We were seated immediately, provided with a great highchair and made to feel very welcome. Drinks came out immediately and our food soon followed, cannot fault it for a family restaurant. If it wasn't so far away it would be our regular la porchetta.

Really enjoyed our dinner tonight, service was spot on (waiters checked in on us to make sure we were happy with our meals and get us more drinks), food came out fast and was delicious. Thanks for a great dinner!
Gordon Yeong
Shit. The pizza was greasy and the spaghetti marinara's seafood was not fresh.

seriously the pizza was horrible and salty. have always love la porchetta since 1998 but this one's really bad. been to the same place many times but this was bad.

Yummy & fairly priced. I went there on a weekend in December. The Pollo e Funghi Penne pasta was great, nice flavours and perfectly cooked. The lot pizza was also good, nice amount of toppings. The bolognese was pretty average.
Would go again, prices are good for the hip pocket too.

We went to this establishment tonight. Our service was less than impressive, the manager continually yells and abuses his young staff, which is totally inappropriate and not professional.
The service was okay but staff seem to not understand the difference between entree and mains. I had soup and I asked for it to be hot, what I was offered was spicy hot soup, consequently I was unable to eat it. It was a wasted night and we should have eaten at home

I will not ever visit La Porchetta East Bentleigh again. Slow motion, blur, disinterested staffs, over oily carbonara and rude manager or owner made the whole dining experience the worst of all. Things will be so much better if the manager or owner is at least nice and friendly.
Belle
Horrible food, terrible service, in attentive staff, menu items ordered that dont turn up, disappointed and will not return,
Amanda
Who knew I had this next door???. I've lived in another suburb and been to La Porchetta and not really enjoyed it. However I was invited here in East Bentleigh for a birthday celebration and had a wonderful experience. I loved this branch. Nice food, nice quantities, pleasant owner, spacious place. We were 16 of us and ordered a wide variety of dishes. All were well prepared.
Julie Smith
I recently went there to dinner, the food was excellent and the staff were really helpful and considerate. I had a great experience and i will be returning.

I went there tonight and had a lovely meal. The staff were very helpful and smiley. I would return anyday :)

An awful dining experience - do not go here!. When my boyfriend and I got there at around 8:15pm tonight (Saturday Night) we were seated immediately, and the place was only about 1/3 full. The waiter sat us in a vacant area but then a couple with a baby arrived and they were seated directly behind us, which was annoying because the staff had to bump into us and create a lot of clamour in order to arrange a baby seat for the couple, when there are clearly more space in the restaurant to seat them. We had our orders taken quite promptly and this is what we ordered:

-A Coke
-A Lemon, Lime and Bitters
-A lemonade
-Garlic Bread
-An Entree sized Spaghetti Ragu
-An Entree sized Spaghetti Bolognese

That's all we ordered. Pretty simple.

A few minutes later, we asked to move tables because we felt too uncomfortable from the young family behind us, and the staff obliged, allowing us to move to a quieter area of the restaurant to dine after they served us our drinks.

We waited for our food. And waited, and waited. Eventually we were served the pastas, I got my entree-sized Spaghetti Bolognese as I ordered but my boyfriend got a main-sized Spaghetti ragu. But no garlic bread had arrived. We asked the waitress to take back the main-sized meal and replace it with the entree sized we ordered and she took the plate to the kitchen, only to return and put the plate back down announcing that the chef has put the meal on the house for us for the muck-up. Meanwhile, we could hear the manager yelling to the staff about our garlic bread. A different waitresss then came up and asked "Did you guys order the garlic foccacia??" We said "No, we ordered the garlic bread" and she replied "Oh.....did you still want it??" We declined, too much time wasted.

The food was disgusting. I found bone and offal in my spaghetti bolognese.
When we went to pay, the manager had to be prompted by staff that we were waiting to pay, and when he did acknowledge us, he gave a very flippant apology about how our garlic bread went to another table (WTF?!?!). We paid at 9:07pm and left thereafter.

In conclusion, this was the straw that broke the donkeys back. The service was awful, the food was awful and although the gesture of waiving the price of one of the meals was kind, unfortunately it didn't make up for the rest of their blunders. The communication between staff (where there is any) is terrible! Also, the outside rooftop sign is falling apart, and the carpark is rife with graffiti. Very dodgy looking.

We are never going back, ever, and we will tell everyone we know to avoid going there. How this place stays in business is beyond me.

Horrible horrible horrible. Just had lunch expecting a typical cheap la porchetta dining experience with generally okay food (through experience from south yarra la porchetta), instead, this dining experience was horrible. Trying to enjoy the 1 cheat meal of the week where your taste buds should be thriving for flavour, instead to order a margarita that tastes like nothing but dough. Tried to change my perception by ordering the fettuccine pollo avocado - was nothing but cream, no avocado flavour, hardly any chicken. Also had a spag bol on the table, was not spaghetti, was not bolognaise, DO NOT DINE HERE - SHOULD NOT REMAIN IN BUSINESS! - oh, and, staff were incredibly rude! 0/10, would rather order a twister from red rooster. Terrible!
Thea
How are you still in business??. Worst dining experience of my life. If you enjoy grease oil and ignorant uninterested staff then by all means this is the restaurant for you!
Freezerbear
WHY ARE YOU IN THE RESTAURANT GAME?. Put simply this soup kitchen is appalling. I set up this account just to write this review. Nobody goes to la porchetta for a fine dining experience but no one deserves the dross served up at this place. I may be fussy but when I order spaghetti that's what I want, not penne not gnocchi or fettucine but spaghetti, its not hard. A salad bereft of dressing and a large clump anchovie hidden under the chopped cos. Sauces ordered for a schnitzel thrown together with such hast cheffo forgot to add stock, dry bland and charged for the priveledge. Anyone who's eaten with a 17 yr old boy knows its not long before the plate in front of them is bare. Not here. He left half the meal citing lack of appetite (a courteous way of saying its crap). I invited the owner to join us. Firstly to give his lazy, disinterested and incompetant wait staff from being publicly berated to ask if mains ordered with vegetables should be served with potato "NO" A lie as a follow up call the next day revealed. This fellow reeked of alcohol and I wasn't really interested in having a lengthy chat with him. Upon raising our concerns at the register I was given a dreamy reply of "oh sorry about that" MISSED $60 - $80 drinks and desserts and repeat business GAINED a healthy dose of word of mouth. 0/10. FAIL.
Oakleigh Diner
Decor very dated, staff disinterested, pizza was pretty good, worst chicken schnitzel and salad ever. Gotta hate a salad that is nearly all lettuce leaves drowned in balsamic. Chicken thin and dry. Would go back for pizza, but nothing else.
Lubon
Ugly decor, slow very young and awkward staff, okay food. The manager was being so rude to his staff. Not recommended!
Engelbert Sebastian
Bad, just bad SMH. I used to attend this restraunt before I knew what real italian restraunts taste like.

It's cheap but I've been to places this cheap that don't suck this much. Pasta is often very dry. I remember once I got a Carbonara and it was all dry on top with a pool of buttery coloured oil at the bottom of my bowl, which proceeded to splash and stain my t-shirt as an insult to injurys

The parma isn't horrible, however when you advertise you get chips with the meal, don't give me fries! One of my pet peeves. After about 10 visits 5 years ago i stopped, until recently I tried it again only again to be reminded why you should never....EVER come here

Customer service is very bland too.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!....AT ALL COSTS. Better off going to red rooster or McDonalds than fork out $10+ for there poor excuse for a pasta/pizza
Anna
No thanks!. Having been to at least 4 or 5 La Porchetta restaurants in Victoria, this one stands out as the very worst. On the three occasions we've taken away our orders have always been wrong and food really poorly cooked.

We dined in a few weeks ago and our meals arrived at different times (I had finished my pasta before my partner's pizza had arrived) and the food was truly inedible.
Noddy
Not so great. I have been a couple of times, and the service has been dismal. My order of a pizza was messed up twice on the first visit (I sent back two in turn, that I did not ask for). The manager came to check the pizza I had ordered, and was not happy with me returning the incorrect ones.

On another visit, shortly after arriving my table was told we needed to order, when most were not ready, because there was a function being held later on and the kitchen would be busy. I found this particularly rude, as we had booked ahead.

The food was fine, considering it's a chain.

It's hard to find a good La Porchetta and this ones no exception. Poor service and horrible food. Never again.
Val
Couldn't believe pasta could be made this badly.they must work very hard to make it so awful.

Half Vegetarian Pizza – loads of mushrooms, olives, capsicum and mozzarella, we also do half cheese and no oil on this. Very tasty.
