I so wish I took a photo but I didn't... the chicken schnitzels were beyond tasty. It's the only thing I like from the menu. I'm not really into German food. You can't go wrong with a Schnitzel
This isn't the place to go to for ambiance, but the food here is always good & the servings are huge. The Barossa rib eye is great, though sometimes not as medium rare as medium rare should be. The crumbed pork cutlets are amazingly tender, and I have never seen a child not dive happily into the schnitzel. The beer is good too - try the Köstritzer if you are into dark beer. Over all, the place is kinda loud, kinda kitsch, and very yum.
Used to be a really good place, that is until the owner went on maternity leave.... I should be fair, the food is still good, but the way waitresses treat the customers are not the same anymore.
Great German food. I have been here three times over the past year and every time I am happy with the service and the food. Only once was there a delay in my tables order and really it was only because of a new staff member learning the ropes and we didn't wait that long at all, the service was friendly efficient and never left that restaurant starving or dissatisfied. The Snapps and Beer was authentic and the pork belly sublime. In my humble opinion the best German Restaurant in Sydney. The decor is homely German cottage like with an understated 'oktoberfest decor' which works well. For those who are used to the gimmicky bavarian beerhouse franchises. I say try this place as you may be converted. Rhinedorf feels more authentic and robust with their food. The apple strudel (if by the very small chance you have room left) is beautiful, best shared between two people if you don't have a big appetite.
The food was good and a nice change to all the Asian restaurants in that area. The service lacked a bit, and the decor could use a helping hand but overall not a bad place for some home style comfort food.
The interior decor had a very homely feel with lovely wooden tables and green checked tablecloths. The walls were adorned with German knick knacks which gave an authentic vibe.
He gave me the tiniest little piece which indignantly I said was extremely miserly of him. It turned out to be the yummiest, most delicious fried cheese that I have ever tasted. (No wonder he didn't want to share!). The next time we went I ordered the same entree so we wouldn't have to fight over it. more info
Delicious food, big servings. Went to dinner here in a group of 5, including 2 locals who recommended the place, and they sure weren't wrong! We had a mix of the garlic bread and pretzels for entree, which we nice, but we should really have just saved room for the main course. Along our table we had the pork knuckle, veal knuckle, chicken schnitzel, chicken vol au vent and veal oscar. Neither of the blokes came close to finishing their knuckle, it was like a dinosaur bone, the meat was deliciously cooked, but enormous. The chicken Schnitzel was also a really big serve, 2 large schnitzels plus veges and would have made 2 meals. The vol au vent and the veal oscar (with prawns) were a large but edible size. Mine was the veal oscar, which had plenty of veal, very tender and tasty, a few prawns on top and a creamy sauce (which overpowered the prawns a bit to be honest) and fried potatoes. All very nice. I was definitely too full for dessert. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the drinkers of German beers seemed happy with their choices. I tried to order a diet coke, which was on the menu as diet coke, but they actually only had coke zero, probably the only disappointment I could find!
Service was excellent. Meals were enormous. The cabbage roll entree was tasty. Veal oscar was good but a little overwhelmed by the amount of sauces on the plate.
Its alright. We have gone many times over the years and its been hit and miss but nothing has ever been so bad as to warrant never coming back. Some honorable mentions are the rouladen, stuffed cabbages and sauerkraut. They also carry DAB beer which to me is like Dom Perignon but yellow and fuzzy.
Highly recommended
Food was great, group of 8 and everyone was pleased. Service lacked a bit though, they could have sold us plenty more drinks if we didnt have to chase them down or go to the bar ourselves. Would still go again though
Not bad. Good food but wouldn't say it blew me away.
Great German food. I dine at the Rhinedorf everytime i come to Sydney and have always walked out Happy and stuffed like a pig. I love the Goulash soup, the huge Schnitzels, the Cabbage rolls, the Rouladen, and for dessert the apfelstrudel is a must. Also the prices are very reasonable unlike some tourist traps in the CBD.
Fantastic German food, great portion sized mains & amazing home made desserts! A must for all lovers of authentic German cuisine!!
One of the best german restaurants!. On my first visit to the Rhinedorf I remember asking my boyfriend if I could try some of his entree. He'd ordered deep fried camembert cheese with cranberry sauce.
Authentic food, great beer, ho hum service. I have been to the Rhinedorf 5 or 6 times over several years. One thing never changes - well two things. 1- the food is authentic, hearty and tasty - feels like a late 70's or 80's time warp but the food is the genuine thing. The second thing that never changes is the decor. Ok you don't go here for the decor, but it's certainly got at time warp feel. The steins of beer are great - the DB is a treat! As for food, you can't really go wrong. Any of the pork or veal knuckles are superb, but the schnitzel and kassler are great too. Wish the menu still included sauerbraten, but thats another matter.
Service is patchy. Wait staff aren't sure about some of the menu items and slow to ask if you want more to drink. Dessert of the Black Forest cake was amazing! All in al, honest and genuine food, perfect for a cold wintery night. I'll be back.
Excellent food. Best garlic prawns I have ever had. Service good but the wait for food is abut slow but is forgotten once you taste the delicious food
Fantastic place! Delicious food and very friendly service.
THIS PLACE IS NOW CLOSED!
I have been enjoying the food, beer and rustic atmosphere here for many years. They have the best tasting apple strudel and delicious hot fresh pretzels. Wonderful service from the family owned business. The food portions are generous and everything is tasty. You must try the pork knuckle.
It's always a pleasure dinning here. Real authentic German food with generous servings, best pork knuckles, fantastic apple strudel, and the prices are fair. The service is always great, with friendly staff (I needed my mobile phone charged and they were happy to take it back behind the bar to place it on their own charger). It's the little things that make this place huge.
Have been here a couple of times, so clearly not too bad considering that I've returned. However, part of the reason I've been here more than once was because I lived in the area. It's okay, service could be better but wasn't too bad. Food was fine, but nothing to truly rave about. Think: half-decent pub food.
On one hand, at least the schnitzels don't come from a packet! They're perfectly fine. On the other hand, it's still pub food style, and they charge a little bit more than a pub.
good food, reasonable prices for the amount they give you. great selection of food and German beers. staff are friendly. took their time getting my food out, but it was busy so I can accept it. would recommend to a friend and have already done so
The food is good value for money. The service can be hit-and-miss; friendly but a bit slow. Nice range of beers. Dessert menu is very basic. The decor was updated in about 1989.
