Review Fortune King Seafood Restuarant - Beverly Hills

Jackie McMillan
With one side of King Georges Road lined with Chinese restaurants, we decided to investigate why Beverly Hills is such a mecca for Cantonese cuisine. Selecting Fortune King Seafood Restaurant almost at random, we uncovered quality Cantonese cooking in a dining room ringed by gold-tipped white swallow wall lights. The well-decorated menu is supplemented with a list of chef’s specials. Pipis in syrupy XO ($43.80) served on a crisp noodle base are a must-order. Steamed silver thread loaf ($4.50) (or the deep-fried golden version) will help mop up any remaining XO; and the thread-like construction of these buns makes them fun to pick apart. Crunchy green capsicum provides a great counterpoint to tender slices of Sichuan-style beef ($22.80). Shandong chicken ($22.80) presents a generously proportioned crisp-skinned bird in a fragrant sweetened vinegar sauce. With its amped chicken flavour, it eats well on a fairly plain rendition of the chef’s special fried rice ($26.80) where scarce tiny scallops and pale pink prawn meat are the only bright spots. Fans of the full-service Aussie-Chinese dining experience will no doubt appreciate that complimentary orange and watermelon wedges and gold foil-wrapped fortune cookies arrive as a matter of course. BYO is also welcome.

Excellent dishes, amazing people and great ambience, my favorite go to for a quick easy Chinese dinner. I have been going there since my grandparents generation and it's definitely not going to go away. The dishes I would highly recommend is definitely the crab with vermicelli, roast pigeon, and the lobster noodle.

Located in Beverly Hills, Sydney, this Seafood Restaurant serves a variety of Cantonese style dishes. Like most traditional Chinese dining, dishes are shared communally using round tables. They have off street parking as well as 9 parking spots at the rear of the restaurant. My favourite dishes so far: lobster with ginger and shallot, honey & black pepper pork ribs and salted egg calamari. It’s worth to mention that all dishes are generously portioned so you won’t leave hungry. Oh, and one more thing. Their xo sauce is top notch!

Usually during our family outing we go to Fortune King because other restaurants closes late. Great food especially the sticky fried rice and stir fried coral trout. Excellent value for food!

Decadently delicious, this family run Chinese restaurant is a must do. Be it with friends, family or colleagues - you will leave belly full and craving the wasabi beef.

While there may be more seafood/Chinese restaurants on the boulevard than fingers I can count on my hands, the quality of food and level of service cannot be matched. It has slowly become one of our go-to's for group catch-ups because given the aforementioned quality, the price is considerably cheap!

What a gem in Beverly Hills!! Had an amazing feast at Fortune with Singaporean noodles, deep fried silken tofu with veges, free range fall-off-the-bone chicken and irresistible honey pepper pork ribs. Will be back for sure!!

You know when you go to a proper Chinese Restaurant for dinner is when they give complimentary soup and fruit and red bean
Food wise though its average. Nothing stood out and flavour wise my taste buds were expecting more
Food though came out quick and service is friendly

We came in a large group and sat in a sectioned off area. This was fantastic as we had some privacy and could easily talk to one another across the table. Parking is not easy on a Friday night so be prepared to park a little further and walk to the restaurant.

The table had Banquet B, and there was plenty of food to satisfy all tummies (with plenty left over for takeaway). There were a few standout dishes which I would recommend. The peking duck pancakes - the pancakes were so soft and the duck was so flavoursome. The salt and pepper king prawns were very popular, very crisp and well seasoned and the prawn meat had a nice bounce to it. The Shan Tong style chicken was also a standout due to the combination of spices used.

I would be interested to return to try other dishes, and perhaps order from the a la carte menu instead. It is best to go in a large group so you can try many dishes. Bookings would be ideal as the restaurant is not very large.

An impromptu visit to Fortune King Seafood Restaurant. We had the mud crab with vermicelli hot pot, it was delicious!!! Before they cook the crab, they brought it to us and told us the weight. Crab was cooked beautifully, and the vermicelli with xo sauce compliment the crab meat perfectly! At the end of dinner, we were served complimentary fruits and dessert. The place is quite spacious with plenty of seatings, so perfect for family gatherings or dinner with friends.

Although more options exist than a decade ago, it's still a rarity to come across a late night dining venue that isn't a fast food chain or kebab vendor. An invitation to Fortune King Seafood Restaurant saw us discover a Chinese seafood restaurant that is open til 1am! Plus, they offer a 20% discount on seafood after 9pm (and at lunchtime too).

Located at the Stoney Creek Road end of King Georges Road in Beverly Hills, on the same side of the road as the Cinemas, the refurbished restaurant offers traditional, yet elegant Cantonese dining. Case in point, our dining experience commences with complimentary prawn crackers, peanuts and Chinese soup to whet the appetite, and concludes with a chilled coconut sago and mung bean dessert soup and fresh fruit.

The lazy Susan gets a good work out during our meal as we enjoy a half Peking duck, served across two courses as duck pancakes and san choy bow, stirfried pipis in spicy housemade XO sauce on a crispy vermicelli "pizza" base, braised scallops with ginger and shallots, sticky and fragrant Shandong chicken and braised E-fu noodle with mushrooms. The pipis are a must-try and I can attest that the flavours develop further if you're lucky enough to have any leftovers to take home to enjoy.

The menu is comprehensive, covering fresh seafood, braises, stir fries and hot pots so seek suggestions from the staff if you can't decide! Service is welcoming and refined; there is no plonking of crockery or the slapdashery you might find at other Chinese restaurants.

It is highly recommended getting a group together to enjoy the dining experience at Fortune King Seafood Restaurant, whether for a special occasion meal or a casual mid week catch up. And know that if the urge for congee strikes at midnight, they're open for late night (early morning) dining.

Super great service and delish food! We had some dietary requirements within the group and the staff were great with checking in on our requirement and catering to the group.

Dishes we ordered: Braised Pork ribs, Stir fried mushroom and silk tofu, XO vermicelli crab pot.

The food here was also super fresh, the crab was live and the silk tofu was fried to order!

Fortune King is one of my all time favourite restaurants. The atmosphere and service is amazing, but most of all the food is incredible! I have tried many dishes and each time I am thoroughly impressed. One of my favourites would definitely be the ginger and shallot live lobster, the best lobster dish I have ever tasted! Fortune King never disappoints, the best seafood restaurant in town!

The pigeon is very nice indeed. However, they have bad attitude and bad service. This is my second visit and I swear I will never go back again - no matter how nice something is, it doesn't worth being treat badly.

Since my childhood, this restaurant has been the one we occasionally invite special guests. Interior design was nothing fancy but it was renovated recently. The atmosphere felt much better after it. Service was acceptable. We had a table beside us that were overly loud and it ruined the experience. Luckily they were done quickly.

Lobster sashimi was served first, you could tell it was live because the antenna was moving. If you like the lobster roe, make sure you ask for it otherwise it vanishes. The sashimi was delicious, firm with a tad sweetness. Steamed parrot fish was too large, so it was tough (not their fault, we chose the large one). Otherwise it would've been delicious. The remaining lobster meat was taken away and cooked in ginger and shallot sauce. It was extremely tasty but you will need to get your hands dirty. I can't remember the other dishes we ordered that day. It was a standard Cantonese restaurant that serves tasty food.

Great food with a good atmosphere. Loved the fried noodles with crabs, they were just so yummy! Couldn't stop having them. The gravy noodles with lobsters are to die for too! There is lobster sashimi too, first I've seen and tasted so far with great freshness. Highly recommended. :) will be back!

Can confirm with Jennifer's review below. Welcoming restaurant with delicious food. Service is great. Would recommend to everyone passing through Beverly Hills for an excellent feed.

Best Chinese restaurant in Beverly Hills!

Amazingly fresh seafood. I ordered a lobster and an eel. They were freshly served and cooked in a traditional Chinese style. Prices were quite reasonable as well.

My favourite fish of the restaurant would be stir-fried wagyu beef. They are all diced into bite-size and it feels like heaven when they melt in my mouth. Tender yet juicy, very nice:)

I would highly recommend you going to this restaurant. Classy interior design with traditional Chinese painting on the wall makes me feel really comfortable. A good place to go on weekend with your family👍

Food here was as a whole great! We always order our family favourite at every chinese restaurant for comparison: salt and pepper squid. Here, it's pretty bloody fantastic in all honesty, maybe the best I've had with the squid tender and a lovely contrast to the crispier and well-seasoned batter. Delicious. We tried the jellyfish and chicken salad as well since one of our friends had not tried this dish before. Again, this was refreshingly good and a nice change from the more typical dishes. Service is very friendly indeed with a lot of smiles and the staff seem to be very friendly with each other as well as the clients which contributes greatly to the comfortable atmosphere inside. Would eat here again the next time we drive by King Georges road :)

Been a regular since the Masthai days. Since under the new management the restaurant has improved quite a bit despite it being above average under the previous management. The restaurant was recently renovated making the place feel very warm and inviting. The service is always on point, staff are accommodating my curious taste buds to try new dishes by sharing their own personal favorites with me.

Food is always superb and has never disappointed me. I highly recommend my personal favorites Masthai (Fortune King as i should say now), Roast Pigeon, Vermicelli Crab and Taro Duck.
Sometimes i like to sneak in XO Pipies :).
If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend you give this place a try. I feel like this place is under rated and deserves a lot more credit. Hats off to the new management.

Horrible, food is tasteless. Will not go back! Not recommended. Ordered Wagyu with wasabi sauce, was in fact RUMP! Misleading menus, additionally food preparation not by Executive chef, apprentices more likely.
Anthony
Reservation for Sunday, 4 October 2015 for about 11 members of our family.
Ordered 7 dishes.
All dishes were NOT executed by the Executive Chef, rather an apprentice. Dish were poorly executed, lacked flavour. For simple Chinese dish, it was shockingly tasteless. Would NOT recommend for anyone who wants flavoursome Chinese. Avoid.

The new owners have kept up with masthai name, bringing great food and service to the table. It's always refreshing to see smiles on the wait staff at Chinese restaurants! The food is still good quality as well.

The winning dish here (or at least in the sample) was the XO pippies. Make sure you order it with crispy vermicelli though – as its a clever way to make sure none of that precious XO sauce goes to waste.

I also quite liked the eggplant claypot, which wasn’t as oily as others I’ve tried but you still need a balancing element – plain steamed rice works fine – to enjoy it. No complaints with any of the other dishes in the sample, they comfortably sit around the mean and I’d be keen to return to try some others.

One of the best things about this place is the value – $21 a head (the sample fed a group of 6) is incredible given we ordered 2 ‘premium’ dishes in the form of the XO pippies and crispy taro crusted duck.

Masthai was a family favourite, as we visited practically fortnightly. Another plus was that we had a family friend who worked there (perks of having connections!). However, Masthai went under new management mid-2013 - rumour has it that the chefs from a restaurant couple shops down the street bought the business, attracted by the popularity of Masthai (it never did ads, and for an Asian restaurant, that is GREAT!) When we visited, interiors were all the same - pictures, decor etc. were all the same. Only difference was that they repainted the walls white (or that's all I can recall from memory...) It wasn't a weekend, but it was pretty full, with some walk-in customers having to wait at least an hour or two. As we sat down we were quickly given Chinese tea and a pot/large bowl of soup - typical service of Asian restaurants. The waiter/w

Every couple of weeks, I return to the 'home' to visit and have dinner with my family. I'm fortunate that they live near the 'Eat Street' of the southern suburbs, and that the street has so many good restaurants on it. I'm talking about King Georges Road,
