Review Kava Cafe - Bicton

Natasha
This is a fantastic place. I really enjoyed my vegie burger. There were lots of fillings and the truffle sauce was delicious. The chips were crispy and a tasty side to my burger. Really affordable prices. Great service and a relaxing ambience. Heaps of vegetarian options on the menu. So happy this is my local I will be a customer forever.

One of our favourite restaurants! This isn’t just a cafe. The food is incredible and top restaurant quality! We used to love the lamb and truffle mash but they changed the menu.. didn’t think we would be able to find something as delicious but the Beef Tagliata with truffle chips is just as amazing. And when you can’t get there we can even get them in Uber Eats!

This may have been good once - the menu looks interesting. It seems it's now under new management and the new owners likely new to the Cafe business. The menu is full of typos, poor grammar and incorrect references. I'm doubtful they'd be able to deliver the meals exactly as advertised. The coffee was not nice - I threw mine out after 2 sips. The owners are very nice though, extremely polite. I really hope they're able to turn things around. I won't be going back

Service was great, food was ok. Would go back and try something different.

Standard cost but the quality of the food and coffee is well above average. The best place for food and coffee in Bicton. We really like it here and they let you dog sit outside. The price is about right and the staff are nice On busy days they cope well. I think they sell booze but I've never ordered any. I often come here simply for the excellent coffee whilst walking around the neighbourhood with my family and dog. I'm sure they also do specials on certain days. Maybe discounted pizza on a Tuesday, I'll have to try it soon.

We had a lovely breakfast which was tasty and friendly service. The pancakes were delicious too big for the little girl to finish. But looked amazing! Loved the freshly squeezed Apple juice. Would go back

Friendly service and excellent coffee. The menu offerings look good too. It’s a pity the decor is a bit tired, as there is very little in the way of a pleasing ambiance.

Never had red velvet pancakes, very good, super rich in sugary goodness. The cafe probably could've used one more person on a busy morning to manage the crowd just a bit better. Overall a good experience.

Been there a few times with friends. Food is very good. Very unique and trendy food and drink menu. Must try their pancakes and tumeric / beetroot latte. Pricing is decent. Nicely decorated place. Free parking available. However, the biggest disappointment was the poor service and especially from the male manager! He was very rude, short tempered with customers and even unhelpful when asking for a menu! I was rudely advised by another female waitress that I could not make a complaint as he was the manager. After discussing the issue of poor customer service directly with the male manager, it ended with him reluctantly apologizing and unexpectedly slapping his own face twice?!?! His behaviour is very unusual and scary. I hope the owners of this place will be aware of their poor mannered staff after this review, and coach them to provide better customer service. Such a shame, as this cafe is genuinely very good hence why I have been revisiting with my friends.

Amazing coffee and always great service, the pizzas are fantastic and so much choice and variety. Love having this place so local and that they deliver too! Dinners are delish and you have to try the ribs!!! Not yet had breakfast but definitely going to head past and try, can see why this place is always so popular!
Vicky Forster
The pizzas are top notch, beautiful thin, crispy base. We live around the corner and get their takeaway deal on a Wednesday, buy one pizza, get a margarita free.

Had a lovely meal tonight and the staff are excellent, if you want a great Cafe meal at a good price then this is the place to go.
Layla Morrison Ferguson
Had the tommahawk it was ammmmazzing. Generous sides included. Cooked perfectly staff friendly. Can't speak highly enough of how delicous it was. Recommended. Truffle butter was the best yum ♡♡

Red velvet pancakes are to die for! Great coffee too.
Leanne Clarke
Had the best Mocha, very creamy and coffee was beautiful. Bagel with Chicken and avocado was so tasty! Highly recommend.

The menu changes regularly which is great for frequent dining. The staff are always friendly and confident in offering the best off the menu. And REALLY good coffee
Phil Rylance
The cafe is very good, the staff are great and always ready to help. I get coffee to go at least 3 times a week and it is always very prompt. At night the restaurant offers good food and as it is BYO it works out very reasonable in price.

This place is a little gem. 15 people at dinner and every single person was delighted with the food and service.

Treated my beautiful girl to breakfast today ! Pork belly bao and red velvet pancakes AMAZING .........

We went for a mid week dinner and received lovely food and good service. The meals were fresh and well priced. I will defiantly return. Lovely pizza and pasta!

Very good food and service I really enjoy , I will come back for sure

We went to Kava Cafe on a spare of the moment decision .. never been there before THE FOOD & SERVICE was fantastic . Great value and such lovely staff. Thank you it made our evening feel very special.

Had the buttermilk pancakes with chicken and bacon.
Substantial portions of chicken and bacon which was nice but pancakes were abit plain. Would have preferred the jalapeño maple syrup to be slightly sweeter but overall still a good meal and serving size for $16.
Coffee was decent too. Willing to come back to try something else.
Mimi
Very nice pizza place! The staff are absolutely great and friendly, our pizzas were delicious and very good size! Happy to go back anytime again!

Average interior and service but delicious food!
You order at the counter and food didnt take too long

We ordered the seafood linguine which was delicious along with the pork baos and shashuka.
The pork belly bao with the kimchi slaw was by far the highlight; a must try.
The linguine was good but nothing mind blowing
The shashuka was a special so not a permenant menu; and it should be! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This place would be so much better if they upped their aesthetic game!
I hear they do delicous wood fired pizzas during dinner.
Would I come back? YES for the baos and good coffee

Had a great time here, the steak sandwich and the fried chicken pancakes were delicious - the coffee wasn't too bad either. Nice atmosphere in the place as we came on a rainy day and there were still people there.
Gemma Nicole
Great menu and best coffee around Bicton. Tasty steak sandwich and probably the best pancakes We’ve ever had. So fluffy! Must try the butter milk and fried chicken pancakes with jalapeño maple syrup! 👍🏻🙏🏼
Eunice
Friendly staff, awesome food. Ive been here for brunch and dinner. Would highly recommend their squid ink pasta and their pizzas too. Would love to go back

I love the presentation of the matcha pancakes I ordered but didn't like the fairy floss that came with it. Overall the taste was great, the matcha taste was not overpowering and the strawberries go well with it. I'll definitely come back to try the red velvet one as well next time :)

Good atmosphere and service. Coloring supplies are available for kids to use. I only stopped by here because I was in the area. Pancakes were ok. Not fluffy enough and it’s too sweet for me. Couldn’t finish it.

We had pandan pancakes and buttermilk pancakes and pork belly baos. Beautiful plate display and deco but i would say pancakes were little bit dry and bit too much for me personally. Pork belly was juicy and baos were soft but as i only tried one bite i couldnt say any more about it. Besides, street parking is always available and service is average.

Really great food. Squid pasta was delicious. Took a friend for her birthday. Only thing was they were packed and when I tried to wave the waiter to take an order they saw me and kept looking the other way. They came to our table eventually but a simple "I will be with you shortly", would have been helpful to not make it awkward. The Creme Brûlée was very tasty. Overall great night with minor pointers for the wait staff so they don't come across as rude in future. :)

Super friendly and considerate staff and some yummy food! My partner and I came here for brunch and ordered two 'Pan fried gnocchis', a 'Bao wow- soft shell crab', and two 'Matcha lattes'. When we got our matcha lattes, the bartender came back a few minutes later and offered to remake them if they weren't strong enough, which was super sweet of him! The gnocchi was delicious, the only thing I would complain about is that the portion was quite small, but it was super warm and tasty. The baos were soft, but I would have preferred a normal slaw instead of the herb salad in it with the crab. The crab itself was delicious and well cooked, and we were pretty full after our order (One main each, one main to share, and two drinks).

Zomato says it would cost $90 for two people on average and what we ordered was about $65, so unless you're ordering a steak, it won't add up anywhere close to $90 (Maybe dinner would be pricier, but brunch is most likely going to stay under $70 for two, because ours was $65 with 3 mains between the two of us).

Overall, the only downside that stands out is small portion sizes, but I will definitely be back to try their pancakes and other items, and I definitely do recommend you give this place a try!

Visited with group of 20+ for local school parents, had not been since just after it changed from the old excellent Zamarea restaurant, they asked us to preorder to help service, overall food exceeded my expectations, service was pretty good and i cant understand why they don't charge corkage..
A great time hope they will have us back.

Ate the prawn linguini it was delicious also ordered the watermelon juice that was good too. Linguini was fresh and filling! Definitely worth the price!!

Food yummy, service was horrendous. Had a reservation for 7.30pm. The waiter was rude, pointed to our table for us to sit down. It was fairly busy, most tables were full. The waiter was literally running from table to to table, huffing and puffing and slamming things. We ordered our meals and a bottle of champagne. The waiter almost threw the bottle of champagne on the table unopened, we had to open it ourselves.

Meal was lovely.

We then wanted to order dessert, we were told to more or less, to hurry up because it was time to close (it was 8.50pm).

I ordered and asked if we could get coffee and we were told the machine was off.

I won't be returning if this man is working, he made my experience at Kava uncomfortable and made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Shame because the food is great. I won't be recommending Kava to my friends or clients.

Excellent pulled pork burger and beef burger. Ok coffee. Standard without being amazing service. Will have to come back at night to try the pasta and pizzas.

I love this place! Been here a few times and I have to say that they are one of the local gem that you could find. The service is impeccable although the setting is casual, the coffees are excellent and the food is better than any other cafes you could find. I never had any bad experience coming here. Although I have only come here for brunches and have not tried their dinner menu but each time I come, they always have excellent food. My favourite brunch menu here has to be the prawn linguine, matcha pancake with poached peaches, bacon and egg sliders and steak sandwich. You have to try them and I have always come back for more!
Attadale Local
Went for breakfast it wasn't too bad . Pancakes looked awesome. We shared a tapas style breakfast / lunch . Will try again in the near future :)

Had a great time here, wait staffs were nice, quite a busy place with ppl riding bikes. Had the soft shell crab bao, pork belly bao and mushroom arancini . The pork belly bao was good. But the softshell crab didnt come out well. It has loads of potential, i believe something creamy would bring the flavours out well. Arancini was very nice and a must try.

Cozy small cafe in the neighbourhood. We ordered spaghetti alla marinara with white wine and funghi rigatoni. Loved the mushroom pasta more than the seafood spaghetti, which was slightly bland for me. Would like to try the brunch menu someday!

Wow.. what a breakfast spread! Wear your stretchy fat pants or perhaps think about sharing a plate. Seems to be a meeting place for cyclists but my advice is to get in early.
Pennae
Cute little suburban cafe with some dishes that aspire to be more than they are (for the price). Service can be slow, but that's fine on a cruisy Sunday.

Hubby, daughter and I had breakfast here this morning. The service is outstanding, quietly friendly, attentive and obliging. We ordered from the menu, but asked if we could change a few things on 2 of the dishes. Sure - no problem at all! Anything can do for you we are happy to do. The food was cooked and presented well and tasted delicious. Hubby had the full breakfast and thought it was scrumptious, daughter and I had the yummy spring onions and potato hash browns with poached eggs, we swapped smoked salmon for bacon and daughter opted out of the hollandaise sauce. Both were Delicious! All plates cleaned up and no leftovers. I would highly recommend coming here for breakfast, and if their service and food is anything to go by would suggest lunch or dinner would be just as good.

Went to Kava for a Saturday morning brunch. Service was very good and they were more than happy to tweak the menu items. Great coffee. Great food.
Patrick Little
Worst steak sandwich I've ever had.. Inattentive staff whose sole solution for an uneaten/inedible meal was to notify the chef. This was not my first time eating here although will be the last.

Nice little quiet place on the weekend. Came here with a friend and we both ordered pancake. Matcha pancake has subtle taste of matcha, wish the matcha taste could be stronger. But overall, the pancake stacks with matcha ice cream is awesome!

The first bite of the red velvet pancake was heaven! The cream cheese on top has balance out the sweetness of the red velvet pancake. The fairy floss was a little too sweet to my liking. This pancake would be best to share, as finishing it off all by yourself will be a little too much.

Definitely come back to try some other foods!
Cookiecrumble
Beautiful little cafe hidden away, a quiet spot to relax and enjoy some home style cooking. I tried their Asian pulled pork salad, a generous serve, crisp and fresh. The flavours were there, but needed a tad more spice. Delicious coffee, I will definitely be back to try their other menu items .

Kava has been our go to place for many years. We've had many lovely meals there and the service has been great - what's happened in the last six months? The food is still good however the customer service has declined significantly to what it once was sadly. A gentle reminder, customers are your life blood, when you treat them with disdain and as an inconvenience they won't come back! Lift your game. Please.
More Than Nourishment
This place is tucked in the residential neighbourhood. After reading the reviews on the red velvet pancakes, I could not go past this dish. As mentioned in other reviews, the dish isn't huge but reasonable size for $16. The dish was perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. I especially loved the homemade cream cheese which tasted cheesier than the packet version. I would however would have liked more pistachio crumb for extra texture. The pan fried gnocchi and prawn linguine were also really tasty. I normally love my sauce in pastas but these dishes were really flavoursome without it swimming in sauce. I was pleasantly surprised. Would come back!

A couple of weekends ago, my partner and I celebrated a couple of our friends’ birthdays. The newly engaged couple are actually born one day apart from each other and invited us to their house for a wonderful long table bohemian inspired dinner. The next day, a few of her girlfriends and I had planned to surprise her with brunch with the girls. Her friend had chosen Kava café in Bicton which is a lovely little family owned café that makes amazing food. We ordered a few dishes to share and were not disappointed. Every dish was exceptional and full of flavour. We had ordered the matcha pancakes to share and the chef came out to advise us that they had run out of Oreo mascarpone and wondered if we were ok with a scoop of matcha ice cream instead. Um… yes that was ok! The pancakes were nice and fluffy and weren’t too sweet. The baos were filled with pork belly goodness and were quite nice. The hash benedict was served with smoked salmon and instead of bread it was served on potato hash – bonus points for this dish! Lastly, and my favourite dish was the pulled pork salad. The pork was so tender and packed full of flavour and it was served on top of a bed of crunchy, saucy coleslaw. We were so full from our feast but extremely satisfied. I highly recommend this place and would definitely return. Such a hidden little gem!

Pancake and pork.... perfection!!!

When you are dining with a six year old it is important to be decisive in your brunch ordering.

Fortunately prior preparation prevented preschool pandemonium.

The red velvet pancakes had been on the cards since we had picked Kava as the next brunch target.

I on the other hand succumbed to my savoury cravings and innate love of pulled pork to go with the pulled pork burger.

Didn't stop some cross brunch sampling though!

Both were excellent.

The pancakes were fluffy and fulfilling, strawberries fresh and the pistachio crumbs lent a very nice texture and flavour to the whole proceedings.

The burger was full, of both flavour and ingredients....and all worked nicely in concert. Sybarite claims there was a 'kick' which I put down to coleslaw-y 'bite'. But either way the combination worked very well.

The coffee was not so flash however. A bit coarse and bitter, improved as I worked my way through, but given the standard of food I did expect better.

Below average matcha, and not helped by lack of aesthetic artistry.... so give that a miss if you are a matcha aficionado.

Overall great food and quite a find in a suburb without heaps on offer. Definitely worth a visit.

The red velvet pancakes are GOOOOOD. Matcha latte average, and why no latte art? Anyway back to the red velvet pancakes. Perfection. Nice and thin so can't really go wrong. Perfect quantity of cream cheese, sauce and strawberries #drool. Persian floss had started disintegrating by the time I'd finished taking photos! :p I had a bad experience with matcha pancakes recently (elsewhere) but after this delightful pancake dish, I'd say I'd be happy to come back and give the matcha ones a go. Pulled pork slider with spicy coleslaw was also pretty damn good. Nice kick to it and adequate ratio of coleslaw to bun to pork. Coffee was serviceable - began bitter, settled down but wouldn't order it again (2.5). Service was good. Doggy friendly. Disappointed with beverages but overall 4 as food so good.
Freo Food Girl
Only ever had their pizzas, solid, nice thin base with a crisp at the end, their pepperoni is reminiscent of $1 cheese slice American pizzas in NY (wouldn't go so far as to say they are exactly the same but they're similar). Pulled pork BBQ pizza was great first time, second a little overwhelming. Overall positive experience with good quality ingredients used which makes all the difference when having a pizza.

Kava Cafe is located in Bicton at the end of a leafy green street nestled between a liquor store and a hairdresser. It’s unobtrusive frontage means it almost goes unnoticed if you didn’t know it was there... Kava Cafe’s dinner menu is fantastic with a great selection of mains and an abundance of pizza options.

Came here early Sunday morning last week. Was greeted hello and picked up the menu near the door. I had pick of the place as only one other table was occupied. I ordered at the counter the red velvet pancakes and a long Mac topped up. Coffee came out quickly and was very good. Pancakes took a little time, but when the brekkie arrived it looked pretty as a picture. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the Middle Eastern twist of pistachios and rose Pashmak (Persian fairy floss) was special. The cream cheese toned down the sweetness of the berries and pancakes. Spot on but unfortunately the pancakes one, as it was a very substantial dish. Will come back to try their dinner menu which looks good.
I.live.to.eat
shared a serve of the red velvet pancakes we'd travelled here to try. they were nice, but bit thinner and smaller than anticipated, and unfortunately barely any nutella in between :( it was tasty enough though with the marscapone. coffees were okay.
Foodie In Paradise
My friend and I came here for brunch today and we really enjoyed the food at here. We ordered the red velvet pancake and the prawn linguine.
The pasta was delish but the red velvet pancake was to die for. The pancake itself was so soft, moist yet fluffy. There were Nutella spread in between the pancakes but it was a well balanced dish without being too sweet. Love the cream cheese, berries and fairy floss on top of the pancakes too.
I was disappointed with the matcha latte. For a matcha lover, the drink was just too light with no matcha flavor at all for me.
Overall, amazing food and reasonable customer service. I just hope they could improve on their matcha latte next time.

Finally got to try this place and it didn't disappoint. Like the location, not too hectic, plenty of space to sit and good coffee. Was here with a group of people and menu item of choice was the Red Velvet Pancakes. Looked stunning with the crumbed pistachios, Persian fairy floss on top and of course the red pancakes. What's even better was the very well made layers of pancakes - they were soft, not dry and so smooth to eat. A bit scared this dish was going to be too sweet, but it wasn't and the home made cream cheese complimented very well. The Ultimate Burger was also ordered - massive, but tasty home made beef patty, crisp bacon. Nice and simple menu range, but tastes good and reasonably priced - will come again for sure.

My mum and I visited Kava Cafe midweek for lunch. It was fairly quiet, which was nice and we sat inside. We ordered the bagel with slow cooked beef brisket to share, and a slice of cake each. The bagel was perfect and if you only want a light lunch sharing is great as it is well filled! Our cakes were also nice, however a bit pricey. Overall was nice though, and would definitely go back.
OzBob
Really quite average. Decor could use some work, as well as their customer service. Food wasn't really flavoursome. No pizza oven. One chef and one shouty waitperson. Specials outside on board weren't inside. And the one we did order the had run out. Menu didn't mention cheese all over the potatoes. Sirloin jus was nasty water. Kids spaghetti was plain, but OK for kids. It was a bad night for them, under staffed and all, but I expected our order to come out before other tables, so we had a an extra long wait with hungry kids, had to order a biscuit to keep them going.
Aliminto
I had a great night yesterday with my girlfriend in Kava. We ordered fire-wooded pizza, veal saltimbocca as main dishes and a panda panacota as dessert. The pizza was very yummy. I ate more than five slices because of that and my girlfriend love the sweet potato in the veal dishes. The pandan panacota was really good as well!. Will definitely go back with bringing our friends & family !

Personally, the interior design of this cafe wasn’t impressed because of the weak lighting I guess? Services were just okay, though foods were served fast and delicious. (1) Matcha pancake:. The pancakes were so fluffy but the matcha flavours were a bit light because of the overpowering from the ice cream and poached peaches. They served at reasonable price anyways.
LittleAsianGirl
Lovely place and lovely service. We ordered the bacon and egg slider, matcha pancake with poached peaches and ice cream, and the kava brekky. The matcha pancake had subtle matcha flavours come through if you eat the pancakes by itself. Otherwise the other flavours from the dish over powers the matcha taste. If you are a matcha lover this may not be strong enough for you. We loved the scrambled eggs from the kava brekky. Coffee is not bad. A little weak for me.
Adam
I'll be honest - I hadn't heard of Kava Cafe until their Instagram profile did advertising right and liked and commented many photos of mine... Upon checking out their profile and realising that these guys were behind the famous Matcha Pancakes, that was enough of a reason to check it out.

So on my birthday, we head over to KC to check out them pancakes. The guy serving us puts a candle on the pancakes which I think is a nice touch! Especially when the pancakes ARE SO GOOD - perfection in a dish that only costs $15. I felt like this is the cafe I'd always wanted to visit since getting into these brunch places in Perth. Their menu looks great as well, it's literally everything I'd want to eat at any time of the day. I'll be back!

Love this place! I've been here twice, once for breakfast and the other for dinner and both times have been amazing. I got risotto for dinner and it tasted so delicate, creamy and good quality. For breakfast I got a bagel and iced chai. Love the food. I was originally a little skeptical of the place because it's so small and in a too-convenient location to me. However I couldn't have been any more wrong.
A very nice, humble atmosphere just like it's food.
Lila
Great spot for brunch. Can order takeaway if you are visiting Preston point or sit inside where it is roomy and warm.. Delicious coffee and can sit outside with your dog, always a bonus! I recommend the prawn linguine..

Great coffee and food!! Good, friendly services too. We were there for brekkie last weekend and really enjoyed It. Will definitely come back to this neighbourhood cafe.

Had brunch at Kava Cafe this morning, and also brought my dog along. I ordered the pulled pork salad. Pulled pork was tender and was flavoured nicely with a barbecue sweet tasting marinade. The dressing that came with the salad was very oily, so it's lucky I asked for dressing on the side other wise my salad would have been drenched in oil.
PerthFoodieGirls
What an enjoyable night it was at Kava tonight. To the selection of pizzas, mains and desserts... it was a good night indeed.

It was a foodie gathering put on by the owner Hamond.

For starters we had 4 pizzas and chilli mussels. The quattro di carne was definitely a favourite, the flavours were just amazing.

For mains everyones dishes looked great, we all ended up tasting each others dishes. I had the pork belly with scallops and apple pureé. It was cooked beautifully and the skin was crispy too.

For desserts there was creme brûlée, berry trifle and mini chocolate fondants. Have to say the creme brûlée was the star of desserts, that cracking noise of the top and the custard was just to die for (if no one was around I would have licked the dish clean) =p.

The place was busy but lucky for us we all sat outside and just all enjoyed each others company, you always know it's good when 4hrs just flies on by.

But overall a great place to enjoy delicious food - really recommend this place :)

My wife and I came down to this lovely and homey place in Bicton for brunch. We started with matcha latte and ice matcha latte (you can tell that we love matcha!). The staffs are friendly, greeted us with a smile and came back quickly with our order.

For the main, we both ordered the Hash benedict – I went over the menu twice because I wanted that we ordered different things, but we concluded that Hash benedict was the best choice. And it was very true indeed! The hash benedict came in decent portion but huge flavour! I have to admit that they are very very VERY generous with the amount of salmon and hollandaise sauce put in the meal! Moreover, the eggs are pouched perfectly at a right temperature making it overall a perfect brunch menu.

Been here twice, first time for breakfast and second time for dinner. Awesome cappuccino and super-nice woodfire pizza. Glad to have such a nice restaurant so close to home. 😀
Sarah
Beautiful cute cafe with very quick service and delicious food. I had the Matcha pancakes which were nice with fruit. I think there could be more fruit or even bacon to make it better. Hubby had the kava brekky which was delicious with eggs, bacon, mushrooms, chorizo and toast. I also had a Matcha latte which was very weak and not very bitter. Hubby had cold pressed apple juice which was very refreshing. Prices are a bit high for the amount of food you receive. Lovely cafe and will visit again.
OnePointFive
First time to Kava Cafe, excited to know they just released new summer brunch menu (from Dec 9th). Matcha Pancake with Poached Peaches caught our eyes straight away. It was quite nice. I just wished that the pancakes were thicker (bigger) and they put more peaches and strawberries (or other ingredients probaby?). Another dish we had was the Hash Benedict. The crispy spring onion & potato has was really good, reminds us of Indonesian style corned beef pancake called "perkedel". Creamy Hollandaise sauce was great and bind the all elements on the plate together. My only complaint about this dish is that the portion too small for price we paid, compared to other cafes in town. My coffee (mocha) was nice. Matcha Latte & Iced Matcha however, were disappointing. We can hardly taste the matcha, like they didn't put enough of it. I hope they'll improve their Matcha drinks since there are a lot of people are crazy about matcha nowadays.

Visited Kava for Dinner on a Friday night and loved it! We made a reservation as the cafe is only small and was fully booked when we got there. Great cosy atmosphere, nice lighting and decor. Food and service we fabulous! I ordered the Fettuccine Carbonara and my partner had one of the pizzas. Both were yummy. Would definitely recommend Kava and will return again soon.

Came here a few weeks ago for brunch. Bit of an odd shaped cafe which was quite dark inside even though the sun was shining outside. The coffee was average, as was the food. I had the french toast which was a little underdone and soggy in the middle, toppings were nice. Service was a little off, the waitstaff were confused even though there were only a few people about. Wouldn't hurry back.
Coco
Coffee was really nice. I ordered a gluten free chocolate and ricotta cake!!! Omg to die for!!! So moist. My mum ordered a pumpkin tea cake with chai icing!!! ( where has this been all my life) yumm
EnjoyinGodsBlessing
Came here for a friend's birthday, her cousin owns it and also the chef.. Very friendly and seems to know all the regulars there. We were chatting and laughing quite loud until one of the customer told us to hush up hahahaha... They are mostly oldies so I'm guessing they like quiet time.. Food and drinks were great btw :)

I like the atmosphere that Kava cafe offers, it felt quite cosy and trendy inside. The spacing between chairs and tables is really good. The staff was friendly and welcoming which made me feel good especially since I came as a solo diner. The kitchen is located behind
the cashier and you can see how the magic happens if you choose to sit at the back. I was drooling looking at fresh baked muffins as I'm writing this review...

I ordered the hash benedict from the menu and made a request to change the smoked salmon to bacon. As I sat at my table, the staff member brought me a set of cutlery that was put together in a rectangular wooden box.

Then my special breakfast came with crispy bacon, spinach, eggs on top of a delicious and crispy potato hash. The downside was only the yolk wasn't as runny as I requested it to be, but overall the hash benedict was delicious!

Kava has a lot of regular customers and the staff member remembered some regular faces. I overheard some conversation where she asked whether they will order the same thing as last time or not. It was definitely a very positive experience during breakfast today.

This restaurant definitely worth sparing a positive review! Went over with a big group on a Friday night and couldn't fault the friendly service provided by our waiter, Victor! He has been very helpful and attentive throughout the night. Foods were hearty home cooked Italian meals. We had the wood-fired pizzas for entrée to share, and they were absolutely fresh, perfect base thickness and generous (but not overloaded) toppings! For mains we had beef cheeks, roast baby chickens and 3 different pastas and all were good. This café is undeniably a neighbourhood gem!

Awesome coffee! Random find on our way to work flipping through the entertainment book. Kava breakfast (the works) and 3 Cheese omelette with 2 cappuccinos $44 with voucher $32. Omelette was good I would have liked a slice of toast with it. My soy cap was really nice and creamy. On our way out the table next to us had the slider which looked like a winner.....will return to try.

Awesome little cafe! Visited for dinner last saturday night. Upon entry we were greeted promptly, and felt right at home with the nice lighting and homely feel to the place. We ordred the prawn carbonara which is to die for! And also the spicy chicken pizza, both went down a treat! Overal the food was spot on, service was friendly and the cafe had such a great vibe going on. We will definitely return! Thanks Kava.

We visited this Cafe the other day for brunch. Friendly service and great food. Loved the menu as it wasn't huge but there was enough to please everyone. Coffee was excellent. We will definitely be back.

The others had the waffle and rhubarb crumble ($11). Those who had this gave very positive reviews for this dessert. I managed to sneak a taste of the waffle. My verdict? It was really good! The waffle was soft and fluffy and the rhubarb crumble was just spot on. There were also no overpowering flavours from the rhubarb! I think the waffle and rhubarb crumble will be a very popular dessert at Kava.

Definately coming back!. Our Anniversary lunch was perfect. The steak sandwich, the prawn linguine and the coffees were simply divine. With a great ambience and non stop friendly service from the minute we walked through the door, we will be back for sure.

Friendly service. We enjoyed a breakfast today. It was so filling that we did not eat lunch. Friendly but unobtrusive service. Thank you

The best breakfast with friendly efficient service.. We went to Kava for a birthday breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast. The chef really knows how to prepare and cook a very tasty Kava brekky, the best scrambled eggs and mushrooms I ever tasted and I have a lot of breakfasts. We done Kava on your food and very friendly service.

This is my second visit to this restaurant. My first visit was to have brunch. They have cold drip coffee where it is not always available in other cafe. I had their signature breakfast, kava breakfast which is well cooked and served generously.
My second visit was during dinner time. It was packed and we had to book to get seats as we have kids. It is kids friendly. It is a totally different ambience during breakfast and dinner. At night time the cafe looks more alive with nice lighting and nice music playing in the background.
We had salmon which is cooked to perfection, moist and tender.
The fettuccine carbonara was one of the dishes that I liked, not too creamy but rich in flavour at the same time. The kids loved them.
We also ordered special dish of the day which is beef carpaccio. It was served with capers, cheese and truffle aioli.

This is a highly recommended restaurant I will definitely come back for dinner again.

Excellent!!!. My Mother and I had lunch at Kava Cafe today. We were both really impressed by the service, (the Waitress and Chef were professional and friendly). Our meal, (Steak Baguette and Chips), were delicious as were our drinks, (Hot Chocolate and Chai Latte made to perfection). Highly recommend this little cafe...an absolute gem!!!

Great brunch. Had a lovely brunch here on Sunday. I had the Kava breaky and partner had the tortellini - both were very tasty and well presented. Coffees were good too. Friendly staff and open and inviting environment. Will be back :)

Very good local cafe!. Visited the cafe on our recent trip to Perth. Both my husband and i had the Kava Brekky (big breakfast) and it was yummy. Their home made baked beans are so good they should be an item of its own on the menu! The coffee was also very good. We have reccommended the cafe to our family here and they will be visiting.

Great food and atmosphere. New friendly owners have redecorated and re-inspired the menu. Wonderful linguine shrimp brunch in particular.

Great for breakfast. Gave a voucher to my wife so she could host breakfast with a friend somewhere other than their normal place. Was greatly relieved when not only were they seated without a reservation but were looked after well and loved the coffee and the food. Phew!

Kava Cafe Review. I recently discovered this friendly happy place to meet and greet friends and family members, in a lovely atmosphere among an eclectic group of people - who were clearly enjoying the good food and friendly service as much as we were. This is clearly a cafe in the true New York sense, there, everyone has a 'local' cafe where they feel at home in so many ways. Well done Kava, I am looking forward to my return on Wednesday. Cheers Dianne

T.t. Recommend the Kava Brekky - delightful staff. Very attentive.

Loved this cafe, great food and plenty of magazines to flip through while you wait. I thought the best thing is the laid back atmosphere - definitely not as posey or noisy as some of the trendy places in nearby Freo. We'll be back for sure

I went there last Saturday with my husband for a dinner date and was absolutely blown away by the food and service at Kava cafe.. We had the most amazing pizza ever.. It was thin crust with lots of fresh seafood toppings.. The steak was so tender with a good size portion of salad and chips.. The head chef was so attentive to details and service was warm and friendly.. They made our dining experience even more enjoyable! Definitely gonna revisit Kava again!

Apalling service. Went tonight wanting to support a local cafe after reading positive reviews on Urban Spoon. Seated at 8.15, menus on table but not offered drinks menu or to take drinks order til 10 minutes later. Finally ordered meals and drinks 8.30 and tried to have a conversation in the very noisy surroundings. Sat there watching other people leave around us until there we only 3 tables left in the restaurant and we were completely alone in our section. NO checkin to order more drinks and worse no checkin on our food by any waiter despite my repeated glances back to the kitchen. 9.15 another waiter comes over to ask " Is everything ok?" Agh yeah obviously not we have no food!! Ten minutes of watching the waiters and kitchen staff in deep conversation and panic,, no-one coming to offer an explanation!!! Eventually we had to go up to the counter and say we cannot wait another half an hour for our food if you haven't put our order in! Lame excuse " I put the docket in it went missing we will make it now" No apology or even offer of something complimentary like bread or glass of wine to tide us over ( our glasses had been empty for 20 minutes) and then after saying no we have to leave (after an hour of being in this restaurant starving), waiter says " Ok that's $18 for the two glasses of wine you had". Same waiter we ordered from and should have realised our food had never arrived! Unbelievable!!! Cannot believe how bad the service was and how badly a situation like that was handled with zero attempt to retain a customer. Will never go back.

We need more cafes like this. Bold but exquisite mushroom tortellini. Friendly staff. Rich menu. Wood-fired pizza.

I'll be back.

Excellent Food & Great Atmosphere. Went for breakfast Sunday 15/2/15. Food was excellent, service was fantastic, didn't have to wait to long for meals to come out. Coffee was good, only suggestion is you should serve your tea in a tea pot.

Great food, ambienceand talented headchef!. I had dinner last night at Kava with a friend who is a foodie as well and we had the most amazing experience! The cafe was packed luckily I had made a booking two days before!

The waiter was very attentive, and friendly and they know what they are talking about because he recommended us the mushroom tortellini as the chef just freshly made it before the dinner service. It was indeed very yum! We also ordered pizza Portugal. Oh it was so good!! First time eating pizza and at the same time feels like I was having healthy food as the pizza was cooked to perfection, no greasy at all and it has the right amount of toppings and cheese.

As for dessert we ordered Creme Brulee and Coconut Pannacotta. There is a room for improvement on the dessert side but it was still good nevertheless!

Be sure to check this new joint out as you won't regret it as my friend and I will definitely come back for second and even third, forth and so on! All the best for Agus, Jimmy and Raymond. Keep it up :)

Great place, would definitely come back!. Had dinner here last night and it was a great experience. Decor was nice, service was friendly and food was fantastic. The tiramisu for dessert was especially nice! The place is under new management, hence the vastly improved food and service. Would definitely come back!

My husband and I had heard really great things about this cafe. I ordered the savory crepe and my husband ordered the prawn linguine. My crepe was really delicious and my husbands linguine was just to die for! The waiters were very attentive and helpful. All in all a great experience. We will be coming back to try the other things on the menu.

Delicious meal, witty and confident waiter. Went to Kava Cafe tonight with my wife, meals were awesome, my Scotch was precisely how I wanted to be given and hers Pork with coleslaw salad was a nice fresh relish, our meals were obtained by a confident and so facetious waiter who was making us laugh, happy and entertained. However the colleague of this young man was pushing us to make an order despite of we haven't gone through the menu properly. Anyway we'll definitely come back for sure.
Carolyn
Relaxed, friendly and tasty. Great family meal tonight. Loved the peri-peri chicken wings and rocket and pear salad.
Tomas from Prague is a great source of knowledge and is so much fun! Thanks for feeding us!

Very faulty towers. Been going here for years, new owners but same waiters. Basil faulty waiter is correct!!, kept hassling us to order our mains after only sitting there for approx 10min. Most people like to have a break bewteen entree and mains, unfortunately we were still eating our entree when mains came out!! Even had to tell waiter to take mains back and keep warm...... Curry was as dry as a chip and pasta was bland. Won't be going back ever!!!!!

THE FORK
Nice calm atmosphere, when placing the order, the service was slow. However, the scrambled eggs were terrific and the long black was acceptable. Friendly Czech waiter was pleasant & humorous, a great departure from the usual surly Aussie teenagers found in Cafes. Good food, excellent service, a unique proposition in Perth;-)
