This place in Black Rock is always busy and for the majority of the time the food is okay. However the portion size of the toast for the eggs on toast was really small compared to other places, one small slice of sourdough cut in half for $11. My wife had the rosti with smoked salmon and said it was amazing.
I took my elderly mum and we had a delicious lunch of a shared chicken and avocado roti wrap with fries. Perfect for two. Combined it with delicious fresh juice (although once I removed the mum’s ice it was 1/3 full - for $7.50 could be more generous). Staff were lovely and it was a great atmosphere. It was busy but the service was excellent and very quick.
Premier corner position with sun exposure over several hours of the day.Good for looking out the window and people watching.Okay playlist. Menu is pretty much what you expect and some of the best dishes wont ever change.Enjoyed the Pulled brisket burger, with over sized basket of fries.Needed to use a box of serviettes on the clean up it seemed.Water was topped up.Crowd is a bit old though
Top Notch Corn Cakes with perfectly poached eggs. Wrap your chops around that. Heaven! Under the Winter Sun ✨🌟
Coffee is Well Done here. Very satisfying Brunch. Bravo Chef!
Excellent service, Beautiful food, came here with a group of people and everyone enjoyed their experience. Thank you, will most definitely be back

Really terrific service from Tye the waiter. Extremely patient, helpful....and a great attitude towards customer satisfaction....10/10.
The food tasted as good as it looked, and even though it was after 2pm, they were only too happy to keep the breakfast menu open. Other staff we met were very kind and hospitable too.
Fresh flowers on every table, open and sunny with even a double power plug for laptop and phone. A nice place to stop.
Coffee is really good and food is delicious and fresh. Lovely staff and chilled atmosphere, good prices too. Have new specials everyday which is cool. Definitely the best place in Black Rock!
Would have to be the best coffee I have had in a long time!!! Service was great, were greeted and brought water within a minute of being seated and waitress was very friendly. Food was delicious, had the chicken salad and burger, very nice. Milkshake was awesome too, more of a thick-shake than milkshake. Finished off with a lemon tart which was to die for!!! I will be back for more coffee, lemon tart and food soon.
Been going to Cafeteria for quite a few years now and was really disappointed when they cut down the menu. Now I only go for coffee because there aren't enough breakfast options on the menu anymore. Occasionally they'll have a really good daily special so I'll order that. The food is very good and always consistent but it is pretty pricey for what you get. The service is good and the coffee is always great. Its worth giving a go but there just isn't that many food options.
Really nice place with a simple menu. Both the coffee and food were nice with good portion sizes.
The waiter was also quick to offer us water and drinks.
Only criticism was we weren't informed of any specials and asked if we wanted any more drinks after our first round which they had offered to the woman next to us.
Overall a nice place for a quick lunch.
Such a cute little relaxing cafe! Me and my friend ordered the specials of the day which was kofta w/ mint yogurt & coriander salad and ocean trout with fennel cream and capsicum. Both dishes were DELICIOUS and the presentation was beautiful! The coffee tasted good but wow the latte art was one of the worst I've ever seen!! If you guys would've stepped it up with the latte art I would've given an extra 0.5. AND another 0.5 if the dishes were a bit cheaper..
We'll run casual dining experience here with really nice coffee and tasty menu for breakfast and lunch. Locals love this place and is always busy
Went here for a late breakfast with my partner. As we go out to eat quite often, we were eager to see what the menu had to offer. As it appeared, that wasn't too much. The breakfast menu is pretty straight forward and basic.
When we ordered finally, the food was pretty good, little over priced for what you get, but quality is there.
Good coffee, good food, bit boring, but better than average.
Great coffee. And the chicken meatball foccacia is perfection . And it’s on the all day favourites menu. Run Don’t Walk, People!
Cafeteria sits on the corner of the main street and has always been the place for locals to retreat too, unwind and enjoy their catch ups with family and friends. Staff are welcoming and enjoy joining in the conversations, and checking how you are or what you've been up too. Always smiling and always to suggest what to have, or whats on the specials, so it's a pleasant friendly place that anyone going here would feel apart of the community.
Love this cafe.. Omg just discovered this place. the food is incredible here and the service is good too. great place for breakfast or brunch!!
Festivus - quaint breakfast spot. A lovely breakfast spot
I had eggs benedict from memory.....yummy
anyhow eggs awesome ;)
staff friendly
Love this place had breakfast meeting there today 6 coffees later we were still there! Wonderful food excellent quality fantastic people.
Absolutely sensational dinner at cafeteria tonight. Cosy atmosphere, well priced good wine, helpful staff and the long cooked beef cheek and seafood risotto were amazing. We will be back again and again and again for food this good. Wish you guys opened sat nights too!! Our favourite bayside eatery.
I received great service from the two staff who looked after me. The male got me coffee and a menu within 5 minutes of sitting down, and the female was really happy to discuss food recommendations with me. Lovely soy latte and a scrumptious chicken salad. Yum!
Cafeteria used to be one of the best places in Bayside, it has been declining in both taste and service for a little while now. The place is still pretty good and the Eggs Benedict is always amazing, but overall Cafeteria needs to shape up to get back to its former glory.
Very disappointed, live local and took some very good friends from Sydney. Five if us ordered a meal and coffee and drinks, my guest gad there 8 year old daughter with us and we ordered her the eggs and soldiers, we where told we could only order one egg. But we were prepared to order and pay for another
Brilliant every time. Can't speak highly enough of the staff and chef. Always outstanding for both food and service. Our favourite place.
Beautifully presented & classy sweets. Had a pavlova here as well as another slice ( I forget which one but know I loved it) were lovely and tasted very fine. The opposite of sloppy & tacky being beautifully presented deserts/sweets. Will definitely go back.
This place is an institution! Terrific standard of cooking , definitely the standard for quality in these parts.
Only chose cafeteria because it had the most people in it (like i always do) the decor is pretty worn.. but food and coffees here amazing!! we had the waffles with lemon curd and fresh fruit. absolutely beautiful!! really nice coffee and they do a mean hot chocolate!! will definitely be coming back!
Great!!. What a delight to eat here. Biggest problem is getting a table in this great venue. Great service, food and the friendliest and most helpful staff.
The food here is always consistently delicious but small servings for the price. I had the smoked chicken salad from the Specials board and there just wasn't enough chicken pieces to justify the $20 price. The salad component was so tasty but I wanted more. The service was excellent.
Delicious, friendly.. Just came home from a quick bite at Cafeteria. Decided on a whim that my husband and I would like to go somewhere close for dinner and settled on Cafeteria with its great ratings. Called at 6 and was in by 6.30. Shared 3 courses- the chilli mussels, clam and corn chowder and the seafood risotto. All 3 were generous, served quickly, and thoughtfully flavorsome. The Chilli mussels came with a generous serve of delicious fresh crusty and nicely dressed bread... The Clam chowder was delicious with Speck(?) and smokey flavours and lots of nicely diced potato. Great flavours. The risotto was delicious and served with lemon- plenty of seafood and great to share. Had a delicious prosecco on arrival and the waitress and manager were both very friendly and attentive. Had a beautiful NZ Sauv Blanc with the main course which was a nice accompaniment to a lovely night. Upon paying the very friendly manager introduced himself to us and was so lovely, ,made the night feel very special even though it started out to just be a quick meal out!
Coffee and service brilliant! Vibrant, fun and altogether happening! Loved every moment! Cheers guys!
Amazing veal sandwich! Great, friendly service. That Chris guy is an asset to your business
An icon of Black Rock. Cafeteria has been apart of Back Rock for as long as I can remember, and every local knows this place. The go to place on the main street for the perfect Breakfast, lunch or dinner (on a friday night)
Staff are welcoming and attentive, always being happy to help or just have a catch up with their regulars.
Priding themselves with coffees as well as making sure they provide you a fantastic concoction to feast upon. The menu is tempting allowing you to get confused with what you want so it's a process of elimination or make sure you go with someone so you can steel something from their plate.
Priced are mid range with breakfast going up to $15.5 so it's reasonable comparing to other places and worth every penny.
Incredible food. This place is amazing.
I randomly came accross this place years ago when driving past and looking for a quick lunch. I have been back many times since and my mouth waters just to think of it.
Food here is incredible. My favorite is the antipasto platter. It is always a surprise package of delectable treats.
Staff are great and the atmosphere is low key and comfortable with a focus on superb food without being pompous. It is a wonderful treat when I get the chance to drop in for a bite here.
Came here for a coffee with a girlfriend and our bubs. Coffee was great, service was quick and super friendly. Wasn't a problem fitting a pram in. As we were leaving a couple of ladies with prams were turned away as they only wanted coffees - which is fair enough as it was lunchtime and only one small table left - so best to go earlier for coffees. Didn't eat but the food on others' tables looked scrumptious.
I'd go back........ First time at this place. Sunday morning breakfast was very good. Some unusual items on the menu (I love black pudding). My companion and I both enjoyed our meals. Portion sizes are probably on the smaller side, so probably not the place if you're super hungry. Good coffee. Overall, staff were really nice and seem well organized in a busy place. One downer was the young bloke on the till when I paid. He was way too cool for school, so it was all stern face and no interaction whatsoever. When you're handing over $49 after breakfast for two, you expect some basic courtesy.
Just had Sunday lunch here. The staff here are attentive and responsive. The braised lamb I had with pita bread was delicious and healthy. Highly recommended.
Amazing food and fantastic service. The staff looked genuinely happy to be there. Will definitely be back!!!
Friday night dinners here are a delight. Eugene is an adventurous chef and the specials menu changes all the time. Entrees and mains are reliably excellent but the desserts are often disappointing. Staff are friendly and efficient. A suburban gem!
Good food and great service. This is our favourite local. The wait staff here really know their beans - they're friendly, efficient and a pleasure to be served by - every time, without fail.
The food is reliably good too.
Keep up the great work guys.
My husband and I went to the cafeteria for lunch today and we were both impressed with the unfaultable service, efficiency and beautiful tasty food! The man that owns the place has a really friendly personality too and in fact everyone we dealt with despite the 42 degree heat and a very busy time were lovely and friendly!!! I highly recommend this place - my husband can be difficult to impress and we are definately going to return!!!
LOVE IT! It's rare that I rave but seriously - the roesti with salmon & poached egg was pure perfection. Then the chicken meatballs with mushroom & basil in olive bread...we would have licked the plate if we were in private. Exceptional service from Georgia, she loves her job & it really shows! An afogato with frangelico (another recommendation from the lovely Georgia!) & we've now found ourselves our new local!!
BEST PORK BELLY EVEEERRRR. We often head to True South for drink and decided to walk up to Cafeteria to give it a try as its always been packed as you drive by so thought it must be good.We were seated inside which was a shame cos it was the first decent weather we have had in ages but as we were just lucky to even get a table at all as this place was pumping.
We were served water promptly and the staff were really nice and helpful to us, having a joke too which was nice since they were all run off their feet.
We oredered the duck liver parfait which was beautiful but could have done with some salt.
Then I had the most amazing dish ive had in ages, Pork belly parsnip apple and radish salad..It was freakn to die for! a generous serve of two slabs of tender juicy belly pork with a good crackling, fresh salad and not just the usual "safeway salad mix" there was all sorts of unidentified herbs and leaves that all matched perfectly with the crisp radish and buttery roasted parsnip... the apple grating were snap fresh and perfectly balanced the fatty pork... i was in raptures. I couldnt stop taking about it and didnt want it to end. Pity it was a special cos id go back there just to eat that every weekend...oh and boyfriend had chicken meatball sandwich....tatsy as! we also finished with a cracker of a lemon tart, much more bitey than the usual "bought in" ones they get at restaurants, so lemony that you just had to smack your lips...fantastico. Ill be frequenting this place thats for sure.
Oh and its a good place for your poochy friends too :)
I miss you!. Used to live just around the corner and have eaten here more times than I can count. Never had a bad experience, except that service can be a little slow on busy days. But the food! There was a pumpkin risotto on the menu once that I still dream about! We live in Brisbane now but the last time we came down to Melbourne for a visit we took the train all the way to Sandringham and then walked (!) to black Rock just to have lunch here again. Glad to see it hadn't changed after so many years.
Just bloody good food. Seriously quality produce.
Good food, great for brekkie on the weekend.
Love it. Consistent quality great food
Surprisingly delicious coffee- the best I've had in the area. Perfect poached eggs and delightful sausages (even better with homemade relish!). Generally friendly service although a little distracted - I had to ask to be served twice. Dogs are welcomed with a bowl of water. Overall a great bayside experience!
Fabulous food. This is my favourite place for brunch at the weekend. I have many favourite dishes but this is the only place that can make a continental breakfast mouthwatering.
Always good, located in Black Rock
The best corn fritters ever. Very friendly staff and the owner. I didn’t completely liked their choice of bread for eggs Benedict. Could have been softer. The chai latte is not vanilla but flavour rich.

Great consistent menu and lovely friendly service. Have some good specials daily! Definitely a solid choice in Black Rock for breakfast or brunch.
Try it!
Best coffee ever, can’t go without my regular morning coffee stop…. service from Lisa and her team is exceptional and menu totally delicious!
The Food is superb - broad menu including all the favourites, beautifully presented and delicious. It's well located in the Black Rock village right near the beach. The fitout is simply but classy, the only thing that let's it down is the slow and somewhat amateur service. Be prepared to wait and wait ... but the food is so good it is worth the wait and the slight nagging frustration of sub standard staff. Good local cafe with exceptional food.
From the outside, it surely doesn't look like the most hipster cafes out there. It isn't particularly flashy. But the food is Oh so good. Great coffee here too! Toby estate beans used.
Awesome place with immense friendliness and quality food. The new guy Mack has an amazing vibe about him! the cold brew is also excellent. Will be coming back for sure 💚👌🏻
