Review Flavours Patisserie - Black Rock

Sam Harrison
If you appreciate good pastry then you need to come to Flavours! Not only is the setting DIVINE, with a cosy French bistro vibe but the pastries are incredible. The vanilla slice is the best I've had in Melbourne by far. And the staff - so friendly and welcoming. The owner Chistopher is a delight!

The staff are just so lovely and the food.....can't find the words to describe how fabulous it is!!!! Amazing....thank you Christopher and Staff.

Great coffee and cakes in Black Rock. My fav patisserie, authentic French.

Oh lalà! Great coffee, great pastry, reminds of France, best coffee in town, I really appreciate Hospitality businesses like this one that choose quality rather then quantity within their products. Lamination of brioche dough is pretty good, tried the pain au chocolat and croissant, you can definetly taste the butter; the ham and fromage baguette was very light, crunchy crust and soft inside, just a touch of mustard not too overpowering, just perfect, melting cheese (gruyere or comte would have been better, I was expecting it as how French the place seems to be 😬); the quality of the sliced ham could be a little bit better too to be completely transparent and picky, but still good, maybe a good quality jambon off the bone, lightly smoke, would really make it perfect, I have still enjoyed it dont get me wrong. 🤩 as a Chef I am always honest, in hospitality honest and constructive feedback is essential to keep improving and stay ahead 💪🏻. I am looking forward going back to try more products and hear the French accent again, merci!! Warm Regards.

Cute little Parisian cafe. They bake their own pastries in store, impressive bake goods.

This classy cafe provides a relaxing, comfortable place to come for a cuppa and a chat. I had a large hot chocolate and a custard tart and my friend had an Earl Grey tea, which came in an ornate teapot. The music was loud enough to block out what people were saying at other tables, but soft enough that you could overhear the person you're speaking to. I only marked it down a star because the waiter didn't bring any water to the table. I like that kind of attention to detail.

The most beautiful croissants This is most definitely my favourite shop for yummy pastries and especially croissants. They serve very good coffee too. The atmosphere is always good and the staff owners)are always friendly and polite. Sittings are inside and outside. You can help yourselves with water set in right corner. Regardles you are going for lovely lunch or beautiful cakes, I must say that croissants here are absolutly delicious. The best! And all it's about the layers. They are using the right flour, to get the right volume and texture. Their success is in the ingredients and real ftench butter and the steps taken over 3 days to make them. Such a wonderful place with yummy croissants. A place to recommend!

I would have given 5 stars but 3 is for the great almond croissant, But today we were at the Beaumaris store, arrived at 1 pm sharp ordered sat down, and we were eating and having a coffee, and the young man with dreadlocks starts sweeping the floor and putting dining chair on the table, while they are six people in the store trying to enjoy our lunch and coffee. I found that it was inappropriate to be cleaning while people were there, you close your store at 2 pm, this was 1 pm. Close your store and stay back 15 minutes and sweep your floor and not while people are eating and trying to enjoy themselves. This is the last time we will be going there. A shame we love the almond croissants Im sorry I have to write this. But your staff should know better. He stopped when I went up the counter and told the lovely young lady. Unhappy.

Can't imagine life without this place. It's a stylish home away from home. Chris is more a host than a chef and Alex, Joey, Graham and the others make you feel so welcome. But truly it's the food and coffee. Delicious. The almond croissant is to die for and the coffee even tastes good in a paper cup if you don't have time to sit, relax and listen to the dreamy music. It's a bit of Coco Chanel in the heart of our bayside village.

C'est superbe! Sans egale!! The croissants, the custard tarts, the lemon slices, I could go on, but it would be like describing a drink of water to a person dying of thirst in the dessert! You need to actually experience what Ghris and his staff have on offer . You are missing out otherwise. Check out their special events which are amazing. Watch the shop front for news , then go in and savour the flavour! Keep up the tremendous work Chris and team!

Thank you Chris, Graham and staff, enjoyed a delicious cafe latte with scone jam and cream, and looking forward to indulging in an almond-custard croissant after dinner, love the ambience and a touch of Paris in my own backyard, many thanks, Pamela :-)

Chris and his staff are so friendly and welcoming. Really make every individual customer feel like a friend. A lovely place to sit and chat or grab an excellent coffee to go. Tastefully decorated with comfy chairs, every detail is perfect right down to the flower boxes on the street that give the feeling of relaxing in a garden. The food is beautifully presented and tastes amazing (try the Croissants). Easy to find with carparking just around the corner, also dog friendly. Well done Chris. You should be very, very proud of yourself.

My gorgeous friend Chris has excelled himself with such a wonderful little French bakery that has the best pies, crossiants, desserts & coffee in Melbourne.

I just had the most delicious, lightest, freshest frangipane tart I’ve ever eaten & had to tell you. Will definitely go back to try their other treats. They all looked really good and fresh.

I loved this place! Excellent service and a beautiful place overall. I got a delicious ham and cheese croissant. The staff were kind, and I had no issue with the food being off or old. Amazing and keep up the good work x

I was pleased to see this little bit of France come to Black Rock and have been here on numerous occasions. The coffee, croissants and pastries are good and think it has been given s bad wrap by some, having said that the poor reviews are valid views and they have caused me to consider my going back so I can only hope the owner takes them seriously and ensures only freshly baked and made food is sold

I've come to this cafe 7 times since it opened probably because i live 50m away. I have noticed a significant decline in the quality and freshness. A little sad to see this new little French cafe serve in my opinionnnnnnnnnn '4 DAY OLD' cakes and then tell me when I complain they make everything when they don't.
Stop with the car salesman pitch!

I tried one of the Flavours famous croissants today and it did not disappoint! I had the ham and cheese, it was light and had a beautiful crunch, golden colour with a lovely buttery flavour. I asked for it toasted and the cheese melted perfectly and worked well with the ham. Very impressed, much more superior compared to some heavier doughy croissants that are out there. Will be back for sure to try the mouth watering pies they had an offer. Good work Flavours, see you soon!

My family visited here for some afternoon delights. We were left absolutely gutted. The food seemed like it had been there for ages, very dry and stale.
It was absolutely offensive to have the words "exclusive" and "french patisserie" in the name as nothing was seemingly exclusively French. I have had better from my sons yr 10 home ec class.
Nothing oh la la about it
I'm offended as I am French.
P.S. love... You are not French, please stop trying to pretend.
Eliza
Have visited this place a few times as I was curious about what an exclusive French Patisserie entailed. I was expecting French delights such as the ones you'd find in an actual patisserie. I found this place to be more of a dull country bakery with a Toorak price tag. Each time the coffee wasn't substantial, being it too hot and burnt flavour. I tried the eclair. It tasted very stale as though it had been an old shell. The famous croissant was very yeasty, as though it had been over proved.
I always overhear the owner talk of all of his experience and his French adventures. I think he really needs to get over himself. Rather bazaar really. I definitely will not be making a 4th trip into this store. Will save my money and spend it elsewhere.

Love the almond croissant which is moist and delicious. The friands are great too. The outdoor 'room' is great in winter with the addition of heaters & Christopher is the most personable host!

Little cakes and coffee, how can you possibly go wrong? There isn't a huge variety, but a good tiny lemon tart is one of my favourite things. And, as you can see, individual sachets of sugar. The last thing I ever want to do is have to dig around in a communal bowl of germ filled sugar, luckily my penchant for mocha mostly precludes this.

I am incensed to read this review by foodie 808.Christopher the owner gets up at 2am each morning, to bake bread and all his fresh cakes etc. Not one item is stale or chemical taste,. his loyal clientele are a complete cross section of ages, given that Black Rock is a predominantly retirement town. This cafe is an oasis of taste and charm. None of your comments ring at all true to any of us, foodie808. Christopher would like to extend a welcome and a free coffee and cake of your choice , if you would care to revisit and introduce yourself. We are all so sorry that you found things so very negative. Come and enjoy the ambiance and gourmet experience with us all!! Pauline et al .

Great coffee, great food . Fantastic service. Best croissants. Christopher is the most personable and courteous host/owner. Always hospitable. Staff is great and friendly as well. Good good guys, well done 10/10

Not really one to write a bad review, but this place was horrible. No wonder the place was full of elderly people whom clearly lack tastebuds. Purchased a carrot cake, lamington and lemon meringue tartlet while back. I haven't forgotten how dry and horrible they were As if it had been left on display for the whole week. The lemon meringue tasted almost chemical and the prices left me almost begging the streets just to pay my morgage.

Nothing French about it...

The latest edition to the growing number of cafes in the Black Rock shopping strip. Flavours definitely looks the part with a fresh new fit out that is rather inviting. This french patisserie make all of their own sweets and appear to do it well. Seating is available both inside an out, we preferred sitting outside on the classic french cafe style chairs. Our coffees were ordered and soon arrived, they looked average as the barista put no time into even attempting any latte art. However, they were hot and smooth. Service is still finding its feet with staff not sure what drinks and dishes were going to which tables.
Has great potential and I will be back to try out the almond croissant!
