Review Sazio Restaurant - Black Rock

Sazio is one of our favourite restaurants in Melbourne! The atmosphere is relaxing, the food is incredible and the waiting staff is super friendly and helpful! I highly recommend you to try their different wines too đŸ· !

My parents love this place. The food came out super fast. A real family restaurant in the suburbs

Such a great place! From the moment you enter the restaurant you can tell this is owned and managed by people who are professional and want to take care of their customers. The manager/owner is warm, welcoming and friendly and treats all customers as though they are family. I have watched her train staff and she is very particular to ensure they understand and know how to offer great service. The manager in particular has very high service standards. To offer an example, I entered the other evening, early and, my glass of chardonnay was at the table, waiting for me, my place was also set. I had not made a booking. She saw me crossing the road and had already anticipated my needs, remembering what I like and how I like it. The service here is of a very high standard, I love the food and the manager, and floor staff and team are all excellent! 10 stars from me, highly recommended.

What a wonderful, family friendly, authentic mediteranian restorant. Fantastic servise from lovely staff the manager really goes the extra mile to make you feel at home. Incredible tasting food just like nonna makes

Family owned restaurant with great food and service. The scallops and calamari were very tasty and the eye fillet steak and the flounder were cooked perfectly. The desserts were delicious but way too big portions. Will visit again for sure.

Back to bayside after 12 years and we were so excited to come back to visit Sazio. New owners and a different but refreshing atmosphere. Lovely food, great friendly service from a young and enthusiastic team. The Marinara Bianca pasta is to die for. Perfectly cooked Al-dente with a delicious white wine sauce and fresh seafood. Pizza was very tasty as well. We can’t wait to come back.

Great food, kind and lovely staff. They looked after us very well. It was a 60th birthday very special.

A great experience. Long time between friend catch up. Couldn't have asked for nicer staff, cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Thanks for making a great night complete.

Terrible service. We ordered on Uber Eats and they’ve taken more than 1 hour and 20 minutes and it still hasn’t been handed to the delivery driver. It’s been delayed 3 times. They won’t answer the phone, they just keep hanging up. Avoid if you want to eat this week!

Great Pizza and service!!

We went as a group of 5, and was surprised with the quality of food! The new owners have really lifted the place :)

The pizza was full of flavour and lots of options. We wanted a calzone that wasn’t on the menu, and they were happy to make it!
Pizza sizes are a bit weird, medium is more like a small. Large is more like a medium.

The calamari salad had a LOT of calamari, and was fresh and cooked really well.

We also ordered the seafoods pasta, omg sooooo much seafood!
Food servings were big, but not crazy big that you waste anything. Prices were fair considering the quality and size of dishes.

Try the desserts, they are also really good!!

Will be back again!

Was looking forward to dine here.Atmosphere was good with friendly staff. However, the food was quite disppointing. Our table ordered 4 pizzas and all of them were really burnt. The salmon wasn't very fresh.

Ordered for delivery. The capricciosa pizza and tiramisu were decent. The toppings on the pizza were nice. However the carbonara pasta was disappointing, full of oil and therefore seemed a bit overpriced for what it was.

Holy Moly!! What a Parma!

I have had take away pizza from here before and never been disappointed, so decided to go and eat in for a change.

I had the Parma, which was massive!! Probably didn’t need that garlic pizza first up, but delicious all the same.

Very quiet restaurant on weekdays but decent food.

Thanks for an Italian feast!

DELICIOUS FOOD AND GREAT VALUE.

We’ve just moved to the area and were keen to try out the local restaurants. Thankfully we were pleasantly surprised with a wonderful meal at Sazio. Firstly the wait staff where incredibly prompt and polite and attended to all our needs with a lovely smile. I ordered the gluten free pasta marinara and it was fabulous. Super fresh, perfectly seasoned with great GF pasta and sufficient amount of seafood (however I did have 3 muscle shells and only 1 muscle in my meal???). I also ordered a lovely fresh rocket salad. My partner ordered a chicken parmigiana which he said was one of the best he’d eaten. Perfectly crumbled and cooked to perfection. My only criticism (and just a small one) would be they were a little tight with the wine pour (for $9 a glass). Otherwise we are looking forward to returning to this warm, welcoming and friendly Bayside restaurant 😀

Never had a bad meal here. I always get the Sazio Style linguine which has chicken, prawns and beans. Delicious every time. Good portion sizes plenty of chicken and prawns. My partner either gets the gnocchi matriciana or the carbonara and hasn't been disappointed. The chicken risotto and the garlic pizza bread with cheese was very nice too. We will continue to go to Sazio.

I don't like giving bad reviews but some experiences deserve documenting- I am unsure where management were last night but this place was utter chaos. After placing a drinks order, the three of us waited 70 minutes before inquiring on the progress of the orders. The waitress did not return. Bad. I then got annoyed and went to the desk- by this stage they read my body language. Waiter returns, (I think they did not even start my order), he has one dish but it is not even what I ordered. He states the restaurant (loose word) will provide all the food for free. Desperate?I am thinking...having seen the negative service, the third world toilets and the late botched order, I say I am not interested and pay the drinks and leave feeling much better. Where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him!!!

I had been to this restaraunt a few times. We arrived late and I ordered a Burramundi fillet. Closing time was 11:00pm and it was around 9:00 pm.
Once served, the fishy smell of ammonia of my dish was pungent.
I called over the waitress and politely stated that the fish seemed "off".
I said that it was not a problem, but I could not eat the smelly fish and asked that she took it away.
Having had retail businesses previously, I was understanding and was prepared to count it as " one of those things".
We stayed at the restaraunt for another hour and attempted to have a good night.
Unusually, from the moment I complained we had a continous parade of kitchen staff passing by our table, and looking at us annoyingly.
Then, after we were the last table remaining, the kitchen staff began to bang pots and pans and yell out loudly.
We asked the waitress if the loud noises from the kitchen had something to do with us and she replied: "yeah probably".
We paid the bill and went home.
Looking back, I shouldn't have been so polite after they tried to sell me bad fish.
Beware!
Nice restaurant and very friendly staff! We had a gluten free pizza which was good and chicken. Everything tastes very good and fresh. See u soon!

Waitresses definitely did not want to be there. We were also served off oysters- not something to be casual about and we did not even receive an apology or a complementary replacement. The owner avoided the entire situation and walked away. If you feel like bad service and off seafood go here 😄
Jen
Well, food was good 7/10, service what can I say 3/10 really lousy. Table set incorrectly, table not cleared after each course, staff more worried a lot cleaning tables from patrons left instead on patrons seated. Very poor service from the staff.
Droidster
Great atmosphere. ..excellent food and attentive professional service.
The seafood marinara was delicious. .. and considering was requested 3 different ways...magnifico. ..molto molto Bene. ..
As for dessert ..... what ever you choose will be delicious. .. BUT personally I would recommend the Affogato..( with Tia Maria )
Daniel
These guys always look after us and make us feel special. The chefs are very talented and Alex, our waitress, is the best out there!! If you want reasonably priced Italian food - go here! It's also BYO so we can enjoy all our favourite wines with this incredible food!
Phillip Braithwaite
If you like stale oysters, chilli prawns overpowered with tomato paste, wines and spirits out of stock and incompetent service this is the place for you. Oysters must have been a week old, ordered 12 & got 8! Pinot Gris? Had to settle for Chardonnay. Chivas? Had to settle for JW Black. Chilli prawns? Prawns in tomato paste with a salad of green bits and some onion shards and vinagrette! Pity there's not a good local Italian. Don't bother here. Drive to Brighton or Hampton.

I had calamari last night , food was good and perfect portion to eat for one person I had really good experience definitely would like to come back also staff is very friendly

6 of us ate here on a busy Saturday night. The noise was unbelievable - honestly struggled to hear the person next to me (no I am not deaf), clanging, reverberating, just really awful - why has no other reviewer mentioned this. Even with the place half full at the end of the night - so noisy it was unpleasant !!
The good points, serves are generous, wine list Ok not great by the glass, pizzas were good and the Chilli prawns were the dish of the night. Service at the start of the night was very prompt but slowly disappeared.

Bad points: whitebait on the menu was meant to come with a fennel salad but came with the garden variety leaves + one bit of tomato, cucumber and onion. Poor excuse for a 'salad'. In fact, every dish with a salad came with the exact same thing not what was on the menu - disappointing. The 'madeira' jus on the lamb cutlets was just revolting. It was a strange purple - fuchsia colour with bits of mustard seed in it and tasted of lavender !! Uurgh - in fact it tasted like the smell of toilet cleaner. For the quality of the food the prices are very high, it is almost like a cheap pub meal with no regard to the presentation or what is described on the menu delivered by unprofessional staff.

Service - Ok at the start, first drinks + menus arrive quickly but attention to detail lacking. e.g.: delivering main meals and not giving half of us any cutlery - we had to ask for it + napkins. After main courses our empty dishes sat there for at least 15 minutes, drinks were empty etc. The 3 young waitresses were all standing behind the bar not doing much. We had to literally go and get them to clear our table. Only 1 waitress smiled , the others just had grim looks on their faces and almost sighed when you asked for something. No sign of any owner or person of authority. After desserts with our dirty plates in front of us we gave up on waiting and went to pay at the counter.
Unpleasant staff would not go back even if I could hear and the food was better.

I wouldn't be back to Sazio even if I lived in Black Rock, and - given that I live in the city - that means I've been there for my one and only visit. The service from our waitress was nice, if a little inefficient and somewhat amateur, but at least we didn't get told off(!) by the male waiter for the horrendous sin of turning up 15 minutes early (the place was empty), unlike another patron.
Fish
Great local Italian. Not cheap but the takeaway pasta was amazing. Between three people you only need two serves as they are generous portions. The takeaway menu is pretty good or you can always dine in.
Jeremyschenk
Ordinary main meals. Used a living social voucher on a Thursday night and took 1 1/2hrs for our mains to arrive. The food was ordinary and service was poor.

We ordered from Sazio's via Delivery Hero...and WOW! Without question the BEST home delivery we've ever had. From the quick turnaround of about 35 mins, the genuinely lovely delivery guy to the delish food, we were so impressed. We ordered margherita pizza which also came with garlic and cheese pizza, both searing hot with cheese still really melted. Pasta carbonara also hot and full of good flavours, fresh cracked pepper and substantial portions of good quality bacon. Our chicken parmigiana was tender, huge, crispy crumbed and also had cheese still hot and melting. The accompanying chips were fresh and, surprisingly given it was home delivered, crispy and not soggy. A fresh salad with good quality balsamic dressing just topped it all off. We will certainly pop in for a dinner in house soon.

Quality experience. Lovely place with friendly staff who go out of their way to create a positive environment with a amazing menu.the variety of pizzas being my favourite it's hard to compete. I would definitely come back :)

It's a shame that a lovely meal can ruined by staff who want to close early on a Friday . Food is lovely, if a little pricey, the over all experience was sadly regrettable.

-----13 Dec, 2014-----

Very nice place, friendly service and a lovely menu. The antipasto would feed a family, the pizza are terrific as are the cocktails. I have been here a few times and nothing has disappointed.

Great fresh food, awesome atmosphere and service with a smile!. Went down with a big group of us and were able to be accommodated in at very short notice. They had amazing service, the staff were all lovely and the restaurant owner himself came to check that everything was going well! I ordered a pizza, and was barely able to finish it there was so much! (coming from a 95kg male who usually goes through more than one pizza). The quality was great, all the food was fresh and I found myself envious that I couldn't fit more in; I would've ordered another dish if I could!

Can't wait to come back with family and friends to do it again!

Pleasantly surprised.. Good food. Genuinely good food. The service was warm, and the chef has great hands. I think I ordered the Pollo Valentino, and out came this fantastic chicken dish. Decent service, and good affordable price.

Do not eat here!!!!!!. This place is absolutely revolting. starting with the owners attitudes, what an absolute rip off. the energy in this place is nasty, the food is horrible, it is an absolute joke to call it italian food. the food has been defrosted and microwaved and tastes cheap and nasty. the desserts are cheap store bought desserts that taste like they where not fresh or in the slightest bit inviting. all sold at top dollar prices. i would not go near this place ever again. eat at sazio's...be prepared to be stooged.

SAZIO = CHE STRAZIO!!! (in Italian:what a torture!!!). AVOID AT ANY COST!!! It is the worst Italian (supposed to be) restaurant in Melbourne;

VOUCHER DEALS. Rang to book an appointment to use our voucher. It was a Saturday nite and she said fine what time etc. I made a time and then mentioned I had a living social deal and she immediately went on the defensive and said no they were fully booked, sorry and she had been instructed to not take any further bookings!! When I was finally able to make a booking on a "quiet" night at a time that suited them, we arrived and presented the voucher. I asked if it was byo as we had a bottle of wine and the waitress said it is normally but as we had a voucher it was not allowed What??? Appalling. That wasnt the end of it she grabbed the menu and said that we couldnt have any seafood dishes on the menu and pointed roughly to a couple of cheap items on the menu that we could have. My goodness!! How embarrassing, glad it wasnt a first date!! Even though dessert was included we had to push to get dessert and even then it was the two inconsequentlal, cheapest items on the dessert menu. Absolutely an incredibly humiliating experience and would never go there again, let alone recommend anyone go there!
Jenna_wright85
None. Everything was pretty tasteless

I found this place wonderful to dine in . Never ever had such a nice pizza like sazio. Love to visit again

I have read all the review of Sazio before i went to try their food.. From the first i was finding all possible mistake that i was thinking i could as what written in this urbanspoon.. But its was the best diner i ever had afta a long time.. I seriously dont agree with people who write this kind of bad reviews and all fake about the staff and food.. I would recommand to go to SAZIO to have a delicious diner as this place can be the best place in melbourne as they provide food which made fresh...

Really BAD !. Never again ! food is terrible: seafood is off, everything warmed up in microwave. Staff is slow and rood. Curry powder in pasta carbonara ! yakkkk :( waste of time and money, My night out for a nice meal was a disaster . DO NOT GO THERE!

Terrible Food - Unenjoyable Experience. Looking forward to a family dinner thought we would try this local Italian - bad decision. My husband and I ordered marinara and could smell the off mussels before the plates hit the table. The smell was beyond disgusting. After explaining to staff that we were unable to eat the mussels and could they be removed, there was no offer of a fresh meal and we were told that the chef just wasn't quite sure if they were fresh or not!!! Sorry, that is just not acceptable. Food was left by everyone, other meals were below average. We were offered a complimentary port as an apology for being served seafood that was so bad it smelt like sewerage and were charged full price on all dishes. We will never return to this restaurant and warn friends likewise.
Food aside our waitress was very friendly.
Rachael
Service was rude, waitress didn't really know what was going on. Entree was the best out of 3 course meal. However, can't say the same for the other courses.
Peta Young
Great local restaurant. We dined here tonight with a Cudo voucher and the food was amazing. Generous calamari and bread and dips for entree. The most tender osso buco ever with delicious mash and rocket, and fish, chips and salad for main. The chocolate mousse for dessert was possibly the tastiest I've ever had. I'm glad I didn't read reviews before I went as the meals were promptly delivered, the staff attentive and the food absolutely perfect, unlike what is reviewed here. Was an absolute bargain three course meal for two for $38. Will be looking out for the voucher again. Would be happy to come back without voucher just for the osso buco and mousse.
Elocin
Nice Food. I'd advise to not read urbanspoon reviews before going. The staff did seem to be slower serving us but it's hard to know if this was actual or in our heads because we had read the urbanspoon reviews. All in all the dining experience took around 1.45hrs.
Was fine for what we had paid, definitely felt that our portions were smaller and the meals we were given were different because of the voucher. The table next to us didn't have a voucher so we could see what we would of had if we had not had a voucher. The bruschetta they had looked great so we choose that, we got something quite different...........altho still tasty.
Given the price of $20 each for a starter main and dessert we can't really complain too much.
It is a bit silly of this restaurant to penalise because of a voucher, because the food was nice and is local to us, had we not had the strange half service and menu choices we probably would go back.
Michael
Bad, Do Not Go. We used a v.... Bad, Do Not Go.
We used a voucher and feel we were penalised for using it. Took 1 hour for the first course, 1.5 hours for the second. In all 4 hours. The first course came in 3 batches and they said it is hard to get all meals out at once - com e on this is what you do. We were not the last to order mains but last to serve and then they said they had run out of mash for the Osso Bucco. The food - average. The Osso Bucco showed signs of multiple micro wave re-heating. The fish was not good. To compensate for the problems, we could have complimentary dessert and coffee - good but the slice of cheese cake was so thin. Service - bad, rude If they want people to come back with the voucher deals we Definitely will not.
Dblack
Cudo Voucher. Be sure NEVER to purchase voucher for this Restaurant TERRIBLE service and food heated in MICROWAVE...
Osso Bucco on LUMPY mashed potato heated in MICROWAVE..
Can't remember the last time I had such an awful experience in a restaurant.
Sheri Greenstein
I had a great value meal on voucher. Each course was delicious! Especially the cheese cake:)

Great Meal. Wasn,t overly thrilled to be informed that we were going to Sazio,s for dinner.Have had some fairly ordinary meals there over the years.Last night was really good .Meal quality and sizes were great.Service pleasant.Decor improved .Was informed that it was under new management 5 months ago .Good luck to them and I will gladly be back.(Observed the other meals that were being served and they all looked good)
Feebyflea
No 2nd chance. Had Cudo Voucher and made call to make booking. WAs unable to commit to the date and left a message with the restaurant for a call back to change the date. No phone call back to me and hence my voucher lapsed 2 days later. Waste of my time.
Has just made me extremely annoyed so wont be attending their in future for a meal.
Jane
Worst meal of my life. I agree that there are fake reviews of this place. I would rather eat hospital food or Spam than eat there again. Two tables sent good back to the kitchen. This place is run by people who have no idea how to cook let alone cook Italian food. The curry prawns looked like a weird creamy curry. Avoid at all costs.
Maree0901
Voucher Great dinner. Went on a voucher and had dinner for 4 Service great, explained the limited choices so aware of extra cost, Everything was wonderful, Dinner tasty. Will go back its a local for us .
Brent
Eater. This is a great restaurant, 3 or us ate there and everyone's meal was great, we went back again with 2 different people and once again were not disappointed.
Pasta is great, deserts were fantastic, we are going back again!
Staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was a problem.
Celeste
Amazing restaurant!!!. Came here with my boyfriend despite having read all the negative reviews also we did come here at the start of the year and it wasn't the best experience but we thought we'd give it another go. The staff were very friendly and happy and we were served very quickly, and started the night with calamari and the dips and they were amazing and it was a big portion of food! For our mains we ordered the lamb cutlets and the rib eye, although we waited a while for our mains it was a very busy night so we were okay with It, also if was worth the wait because the food was amazing!! Staff always made sure we were okay and happy which was good! We ended the night with the pyramid and the Chocolate moose which were to die for!! This restaurant was an amazing experience! We found out that the restaurant was under new management which would explain the great experience! Would definitely come back again!
Luca
Best eye fillet in a long time
Friendly staff and nice music
Good place to spend time with family or friends

Avoid please and save your money..please dont buy the vouchers..Came here and ordered a dish without bacon, when the food came out it came out with bacon. We told the waitress who took the food back and came back and said the chef has made a fresh one without bacon. To my astonishment, there was a piece of bacon in the meal.So basically the bacon was just hand removed.Secondly, black berry pudding was not available and when i complained,it suddenly became available. Please avoid, there ate better restaurant out there
Apachecat
Crappy Cheap italian. Have Been here Before and it was barely a pass has slowly deteriorated ever since.
Not worth it
Antonio Patel
Great disappointment. Bad service, waited way too long for our food (and it was a quiet evening, half empty restaurant), owners seem to have little if any knowledge or understanding of Italian cuisine and seem indifferent to the customers and rude. Our spaghetti was overly spicy with generous amounts of chilli which was completely inappropriate for the cuisine it was meant to be. No parmigiana cheese offered with pasta. Soggy mashed potatoes. The décor was pathetic: old dilapidated chairs with peeling backs, the kind that no one would have bother to take from a nature strip. Very very disappointing. We ate at this restaurant a few years ago, under a different management, and this time it was nothing like what it was then. Will never go back.
David Finkels
The people were very nice but the food was very Disappointing, it is the fist time I have osso bocco with curry, very strange. Plus cold massed potatoes, ugh.
Over priced over rated.
Lesley
Great experience. Enjoyed a lovely meal @ Sazio recently. Staff very pleasant & helpful. Great food too.
Ian
Good Food, friendly service. Had a lovely time at Sazio last Saturday, the food was great, very good sized portions. The restaurant has a very comfortable feel backed up by prompt service and friendly staff...
Susan Thomas
Great food and service!. I had a wonderful evening at Sazio on Sunday with my partner using groupon vouches. The food was authentic italian and beautifully presented. The calamari for entre was fresh and delish! I had the Osso Buco and I could really tell it was cooked well being of italian descent myself. Dessert was nice too.
Service was great despite it being very busy. The vouchers were a bit confusing at first but the staff made sure we understood what we could and couldn't have.
I will definitely take my family here for dinner in the new few weeks! Thanks Sazio
Trish
My friend & I were extremely disappointed with Sazio's. True we used a Cudo voucher which was misrepresented. Firstly we were not permitted to drink our BYO wine even though when I booked I asked if they were BYO even though I was using a coupon I was told it was fine. I am aware that coupon user have a limited choice of meals but our main course (osso bucco) was disgusting. The presentation was dreadful, it appeared to be slop with a pile of rocket leaves and a dollop of mash. It actually reminded me of what I feed my dog. I told the waiter that I wasn't happy & was told I could choose another meal but would have to pay half price. I found the male waiters to be very rude. The fact that the place was almost empty seems to show that my opinion is shared. I certainly would not recommend this place.

Birthday Dinner. Went to Sazio Restaurant in Black Rock last night for my partners birthday. The service was excellent, We had a great 3 course meal and good wine. We will go back there and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice relaxed restaurant with good food and great service.

Cheers
June

Dinner Review. We also had a voucher to dine here and found it quite nice. We actually arrived 1 hour earlier from our booking time on the Sunday night and they did not seem to mind at all.
We were shown the menu about 10 min after arriving and were told what we can and cannot have which was fine by us. We had the bruschetta and calamari and found it very nice. For our mains i had the chicken parma and my husband had the eye fillet which was was cooked to perfection, well done chef.
For dessert we had the cheesecake on the special board and it was to die for. We did not mind paying extra as we enjoyed it very much.
The waiter (Vic if i am not mistaken) was a gem he even opened the door for us when we were leaving. Some of the reviews are abit harsh, i think, people can be abit rude. We also were not the only people there using vouchers there were about another 3 couples, we all received the same service. Well done guys we thoroughly enjoyed.
Henry Monkus
Not disappointed. Have eaten at Sazio on many occasions. Attentive staff and meals are always enjoyable. Will come back again
Sergey
Worth visiting. Cozy interior, attentive staff, tasty Italian cuisine - everything you need to enjoy a nice evening with family or partner.
Warren Butlar
Tasty food accompanied by decent service. I use to dine in this restaurant nearly every week when it was called costa azzura before I moved to Brisbane in 1995 . After 18 long years I dined in this restaurant to conclude nothing has changed . Now place is called sazio but food and service is good as ever . I miss Melbourne at times , and miss this restaurant .
Janno
Yes I had a voucher. Friendly service. Good music, good stmosphere. But, what a limited menu for voucher holders, didn't stack up with the advertising. Meal O.k disappointed with the "homemade gnocchi". Will try again, and see what value I get for a full priced, full menu meal.
Rahul Saini
Great Food!. The staff is very friendly and helpful :-) the food is amongst the best italian i've ever had. thanks a lot SAZIO! i will surely be back soon :-)
Jacob Fleming
Authentic Italian at its best. I would consider myself a fussy customer as I work in hospitality myself . Went to sazio's on sunday night . To start of with we were greeted by a friendly and confident server . On his recommendation I had Surf and turf . Steak was tender , juicy and cooked to perfection . I had a warm blackberry pudding as a sweet . Best dessert I have had in a long time .

I was extremely impressed and ended up tipping $40 to our server for looking after us .

Thumps up guys , well done

!!! AMAZING EXPERIENCE !!!. I must confess, this place is great dining place. I went to Sazio with my girlfriend last night with a voucher. Although the place was reasonably busy, yet there were no delays by the wait staff. The wait staff was very pro-active and professional. A lovely waitress poured my beer and then wine. Commenting on their pro-activeness again, they didn;t even let me touch the bottle. WOW- what a value for money. I was flabbergasted by the size of the meals. I could hardly fit in the three- course. But, I couldn't resist as it was so amazing. Ossobucco, was to die for. I would definitely be back. I live locally. SO, this place is great for me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Greg Hespe
My Mrs. and I, went to Sazio for dinner last Friday. Like a few other people, we were also using an Internet promotional coupon. I found the place very vibrant and the staff very friendly. The food was exquisitely delicious. I reckon the reviews are a bit too harsh. I would definitely be back and would recommend friends and family as well.
Spud1943
Not value for money. I was given a voucher as a birthday present for $125.00
When I presented the voucher I was given very limited choice of meals and the value of these choices and the portions were very small. To get any sort of service we had to get up and ask. Coffee or tea was not included and had to be paid for separately. The venue needs to learn about value to the customer. The voucher was a precursor to bringing a larger group if we found the meal satisfactory. We will not be coming back any time soon. tyo top off a bad night I spent the next day in the toilet.
John Mann
Sad really. Looks great from the outside but I sadly that's where it stops.

We did use a voucher and it seems the limitations were unreasonable from the ability to make a booking, right through to which menu items can be selected.

It started when we had a booking that was cancelled which was an important family celebration. The staff were bordering rude on each occasion and most importantly the food is clearly sub-standard given the listed prices. Looking at the other reviews, there seems to be a common negative thread. To be honest, I don't really understand how this type of business would consistently ignore negative customer feedback when it is crucial to survive in this era of online social media.

Having vouchers should be a way of attracting first time customers for repeat visits - not ensuring they never come back!

Voucher issues. We got a voucher for $40 which promised us 2 entrees, 2 mains, 2 desserts. the restaurant looks lovely and has great art work and the staff look good and are attentive. we were then told that we could only order the first 3 entrees, the last 3 mains, any pasta or risotto as long as it didnt have seafood in it and our dessert was limited to 3 choices, none of which were on the regular menu. none of this was in the fine print of the voucher. off to a great start then. we chose the calamari and the dip platter with crusty bread. we got perfectly cooked calamari - 8 rings so on the light side. the dips were hard and about 1/2 tablespoon - only 2 on a plate. the rest was basily oily bread and salad. gipped. for mains we could only get parma, fish on mash or veal. we got the parmas, so not really italian as much as pubby food. nice but chips and salad an italian meal do not make. for dessert we got passionfruit tart that was the thinnest piece of cake i have ever received and although nice, not particularly tasty. we also got baci cake which was lovely. drinks were not included in the voucher so we had to pay for those and we were offered an 'upgrade' of $5 for any fish item or $18 to order any item off the menu. disappointing. the best part was the dessert and the restaurant itself looks great. the walk after around the shops was great. would not go back. as we left, we were subject to an 'upsell' if we purchased a $50 voucher, then we could come back and order any item on the menu. wow. hard to refuse? not really.

Pleasantly surprised... We bought a coupon.. (like most it seems..)
Keen to have a nice Italian feed and enjoy a new restaurant where we'd never been. That morning we searched online to have a look at what people were saying.. It seems all bad. So, we arrived expecting not a great deal and were very pleasantly surprised. The service was great, the food fantastic. We were offered an upgrade on the coupon should we want it. ($18 off any main) Bruschetta was our choice for entree, it featured a basil pesto on toast topped with fresh tomato and red onion topped with parmasan cheese. Not trad but yum. Main, I had carbonara and husband had puttanesca. Both very happy. For dessert I had raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake, it was delicious and refreshing. Hubby had butterscotch mousse cake, it was rich and delicious but a bit odd texturally. But no need to complain.. We will go again for sure..

Utter dissapointment.. Let me preface my review with the fact that we came to the restaurant with a voucher (which was a gift) and diligently informed the person on the phone when we booked. Being a Friday they were understandably apprehensive but were happy to provide us a table in the end.

To our complete shock, this is where the accommodating niceties ended.

Can I say the service what followed after we arrived ranged from ambivalence, to arrogance to incompetence. It was obvious from the time we took our seats, that as we were using a voucher, we were to be treated with utter disregard, of which to be rid of as quickly as possible.

Many restaurant owners find the use of online discount vouchers a positive marketing tool for their business, others deem the effort less the rewarding. Either way this is no reason to treat visiting customers with such disdain.

The purpose of offering on-line vouchers, to my understanding, is to attract people that would otherwise never patronize the venue. This, one would assume, is when you put your best foot forward. Making sure you garner yourself a returning customer. Obviously the thinking here is quite the opposite.

While the service shown wavered on petulance the food offered unfortunately backed up what the front of house were dishing up. Small portions, poor quality, over priced (again we were not paying in full but would be absolutely aghast if we were).

Now we can forgive a forgotten drink order (even though the venue was half empty), however what is totally inexcusable is after asking a staff member for the bill, for him to head straight to the bar and polish glasses to chat with other staff. After five minutes we went up and paid the bill at the counter.

Maybe they feel no one needs try here, always a captive audience in an area where quality offerings are few and far between. Maybe we are spoiled living in the inner suburbs of Melbourne but nothing excuses the bitter taste we felt after leaving this overall underdone establishment.

It really is a shame, as we have many family and friends in the area and always happy to pass on good experiences. In this instance we will be telling all to give Sazio a very wide berth indeed.

Like and dislike. Had dinner yesterday using vouchers. There's no complaint about the place, food or the offer. There were good and bad. My biggest disappointment were the mango cheesecake and coffee. The mango cheesecake was icy as it seem it had just came out from the freezer. the long black coffee that was given to us had only 1/2 cup full.

Very enjoyable, comfortable & relaxing. Good service, we weren't rushed at all. Meals were great & decent size.
Yeah the decor wasn't fantastic, the chairs were falling apart, but the food was delicious & that's what we were there for.
We dined on a Saturday night, with a coupon & the restaurant was packed. Pretty good sign that it's a great place.
Calamari was perfect, bruschetta yum & the pastas were beautiful!

Very impressed. Was very impressed with the Food, Service, and the atmosphere in the restaurant we had a voucher and the choices we had were very good will be going back again.

Fair. After buying two vouchers I read the reviews and became somewhat worried! Yes the choice was a certain three items from main menu & pasta dishes except marianna which incurred a $5 because it was seafood. Worth mentioning when you arrive that you have a voucher so they explain choices on the menu. We thought the food and portions good and value for money with voucher. Staff friendly enough and helpful. Will be going back . I feel some of the comments on this site were harsh and maybe the restaurant has taken it on board and trying to improve if so then then that is a good thing and why we have these sites.

NEVER AGAIN. What an abysmal perfomance for a restaurant clearly wanting to expand its customer base - why else would you offer vouchers? Staff were unpleasant, clearly unhappy at the concept that they might have to actually work to get paid for being there - food was apalling in quality, size, presentation - decor looked like it had been taken from a bomb site - OMG - NEVER EVER again
not even for free - People can get arrogance like that from other sources they don't need to drive to Black Rock for the pleasure - Pitiful!

So rubbish I joined urban spoon to review. Went here for dinner on a quiet weekday. The food was ordinary, the service is better at KFC and the decor reflects owners with little pride in their establishment.

On a positive note the waiter was so lazy it was quite entertaining to watch. I think I could have put my bowl on my head and he still wouldn't have looked at our table.

I'd recommend sucking on a damp cloth before going to this restaurant.

$18 for bread!!!!. This is my second visit to this restaurant...although my first time there was ok...so on seeing the coupon discount offer i booked for 8 people

other than the decor in need of some refurbishing with its faded posters, ripped leather chairs and faded Ferrari books...the service was good considering what the staff had to work with.

geared for a good night i was surprised at the limited choice of menu items on offer...3 entrees 3 mains.

the calamari i ordered consisted of 6 rings...which although sparse ok

many of us ordered osso bocco which was drowning in sauce and was average at best....many of the girls ordered the fish which was inedible.

after ordering $180 worth of drinks we made the mistake of asking for bread to mop up up all that sauce...they charged us $18 for it....that was the ultimate insult to a very average meal

never again!!!

Like a lot of other reviews, we had a voucher. We use the vouchers to try the restaurant to see if we'll be back. I have no idea why restaurants, like Sazio's, treat voucher people lowly - it just means we wont be back and they get rubbish reviews (today, a week later, we just had a lovely voucher lunch at an Afghan restaurant and we will go back there). Anyway back to Sazio. Service was abysmal and we noted that our mains were not the same sizes as a table right behind us. I had Osso bucco with only a small dollop of mash. That's it? The meat was tough as leather and I could not be bothered complaining. Wife had fish - well, half of one-side fillet. Smallest piece of fish ever. Typical Beaumaris "wanna-be" fare. When wife complained, it was just "shrugged off". Bloody rude! Wont be back and we live in the area.

Very dissapointing. Saturday 27th, booked for 4/ coupon for 2, Entrees were tiny main Osso Bucco was not edible could have given us steak knives to use, tough as old boots, did not eat and they still charged us, live in the area and have eaten there many times over the years, not any more, ruined our night and cost us plenty for leaving hungry

Very disappointing. Ate here on an Ouffer voucher. Made the booking the day before.
On arrival, told us there was no booking for tonight, we had been a 'no show' for the night before. Argued the toss, given a table next to the door.
Staff off handed. Menu sounded great, but we were both hungry when we had finished our 3 course meal. Entree, Bruschetta di pomodoro $14.50 consisted of 2 very small pieces of endy bread equivalent to half a slice of sandwich bread, Mediterrean dip $14.50 had plenty of turkish bread but not enough of the two dips. Mains, Pollo Parma $26 had been cut in half after being cooked, and the sweet was a tiny, tiny piece of cheesecake. There was meant to be a choice of two sweets but staff said this was not the offer.
Extremely disappointing, even though we live in the vicinity, we would never go there again.

Don't even bother coming to this restaurant. It literally took 20mins to get someone's attention to order and when you get their attention they just smile and walk away and it take like hours to make the food. I wasted 2 hours in this restaurant when I could have done other things. The proportion of food is so small yet so expensive. The chairs and table are horrible it's old, ripped and dirty. Stay away !!!

It is a lovely restuarant. Its clean, the staff are wonderful. We went there with our 5 year old and they were very happy, they even gave him crayons and coloring pictures and put it on the wall.
Food was good, brushetta, trevally and oreo cheese cake. Kids meal -pasta was a great size for kids, not over the top, and ice cream with chocolate topping!!! We used the scoopon voucher and we found the service very good! Will go again.

Me and partner went here for dinner about 2 weeks ago, also on a voucher deal. we were sitting near another couple that wern't, all our portions seemed to be half of the size. The place its self is quiet nice but I have to agree that the service is dreadful, they made me the wrong main, and the food although nice is over priced.
We definitely won't be going back.

Coupon deal - pastas are fantastic!. We went there with a table of 4, with coupon deals earlier in the year, fully knowing we were limited to what we could order under the coupon conditions which was fine - however quite reluctant to let us order something else and pay the difference. Bruschetta and dips were ok, not brilliant but the pastas were fantastic! I ordered a carbonara which was made more traditionally than most places - no cream! The ambience was lovely, staff were nice and accommodating

A good idea to use the coupon, we would definitely go back.

Went to sazio last night. Excellent service. Nice food - tasty and large serves. Would recommend the restaurant to friends

Not too bad. Like most reviewers we went to Sazio with a voucher. We didn't wait long order and started off with the calamari and the bruscetta. The serves were not large and we assumed that the non voucher serves would be larger, but fine considering the remaining courses. For mains we chose osso bucco and pasta. The osso bucco was tasty although not all of the meat was as tender as it could have been, but the pasta was nice as well.

Dessert was a slightly bland tiramisu and the worst of the 3 courses. For the price, the value and service was good and we had a nice night.

Worst experience of my life. Last Friday my partner and I went t Sazio with a voucher we had bought off of "ouffer" for 3 course dining. We had to tell the, over the phone that we had the voucher so once we got there we had already been pointed out to staff as a low priority. We where seated and then ignored by all staff for about 20 mins then we where given menus and explained that we could only order certain things which we where fine with, after ordering our starters came out about 45 mins later (dips and bruschetta) the dips where ok but the bruschetta was 1 piece cut into 2 and tasted like fish. Then our mains came out, the Parma my partner had was alf the size of an one else's we had seen and was overcooked and dry. The desert was the highlight a very average tirimisu. We won't be going back ever.

WORST restaurant!!! Smallest portions, entre was 5 small calamari rings! Rip off! Food tasted disgusting, cream sauce had split, chicken tasted like garbage (garbage would have tasted better) dessert was atrocious, a tiny slice of cake! AVOID THIS PLACE. Not worth your money. All the negative reviews are 100% accurate. This place will surely go out of business.

Remembered going to Sazio a while ago and being underwhelmed. We thought we would give it another go on a scoopon. $39 for $125 in value... Ha, not likely. Treated like a second class citizen... smaller plates, half serves... Poor. Won't be making that mistake again.

Disgusting. Purchased a 3 course dinner for 2 through scoopon. Had entree bruschetta which consisted of ONE tiny piece cut in half and served with a bit of green salad. Husband ordered calamari which consisted of 5 rings. Both these dishes are normally $15. Main was meant to be choice of chicken Parma or osso bucco, but they ran out of osso bucco do Parma it was. It was the most disgusting Parma we had ever had. Dry, cold and processed. Normally $26, wow, we get better at the local pub. Dessert was dessert of the day, lemoncheesecake which looked and tasted like it was straight out of a Sara lee box. This whole meal was apparently worth $125. Very over priced for such lack of quality and quantity. Tables consisted of paper tableclothes, paper napkins because apparently they ran out of cloth ones. This business will not last. Don't throw your money away

AVOID THIS PLACE!!. I've never felt so ripped off in my life! $15 for 5 calamari rings with a few pieces of lettuce. $15 for a 'selection of dips' - this comprised of 2 dips - a small blob each no bigger than a tablespoon - store bought, with a few pieces of bread. Store bought passionfruit cheesecake served on a tea saucer plate! You've got to be joking! The menu is literally what you would get at your local pub at 3 times the price and 3 times less the quality. This place will not last much longer, no doubt. NOT GOOD ENOUGH GUYS!

Nice food. It was busy for a Thursday night too. The osso bucco was cooked well and hubby had sazio chicken it was awesome. Pistacchio rice pudding was nice too.

We went on a voucher.

While we accept that the voucher system intended to get new patrons in to spread the reputation of a restaurant, in this case it only serves to give them bad one. Calamari rings( about 7 of them) were clearly inadequate) . The osso bucco was hidden under a pile of tomato paste. The cheese cake came from a supermarket. Not Good

I visited there with my gf .... I visited there with my gf
and it is very comfortable place
u should visit atleast once.....

Over priced and terrible. My husband and I picked Sazio of all places to go too thinking that Black Rock is a nice area so the restaurant should be nice too. We were so wrong. It's over priced and the food tasted terrible.
We had side plates sitting on the table the whole time but there was nothing on it. They did not have bread to serve. What was the point of the side plates.
Entrees was terrible. The calamari was so chewy and the scallops was way over cooked and swimming in a cream sauce. It tasted like frozen products.
For mains ordered medium rare eye fillet and it came out well done, but in saying that it was still a very soft fillet.
The service was not good. We had uncleared plates sitting there while the waiter and waitress walked pass us how many times.

WORST SERVICE EVER!. Have never been spoken to by a waiter as rudely as we were at Sazio in Black Rock last night!
He was "too busy to discuss" an issue we had as he "had other things to do"!!!
We sat with plates to be cleared for at least 30 minutes after entree and again after our main meal.
The food was nice but nothing special and might have gone back again as it was a pleasant restaurant.... but will certainly not be returning due to the appalling attitude of the head waiter and other staff and very poor service!

Sazio - Very nice, comfortable restaurant and great seafood. Carole and I went here recently on a voucher, not really knowing what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised to find a quite lovely suburban restaurant, very open plan and well fitted out. The staff were attentive and helpful with the menu choices and explaining what was available, etc.

The food was very good indeed, we both had calamari which was beautifully cooked and fresh. Served with a lemon and caper sauce it was delicious.

The mains arrived, with Carole having a meal based on tuna and penne pasta accompanied by a green side salad. She was very happy - it went down well. On the other hand, I enjoyed chilli prawns which were quite spicy but very, very nice. This was again accompanied by a green side salad which in both cases was well-dressed.

The deserts came off the blackboard, with Carole enjoying a Chocolate Heart. Now, if you go, just make sure you get a Chocolate Heart - they are fabulous and it was the highlight of the night. I enjoyed the strawberry cheesecake which was excellent eating although I felt Carole got the better of the deal.

The service was very attentive as I said above and did not leave anything to be desired. There is a good selection of wines and the white wine we enjoyed was very presentable.

Pricewise, it can be somewhat on the expensive side but I guess that goes with the area in which it is located. However, the quality is excellent and offsets the price.

In summary, well worth a visit, I can see us returning in the not too distant future.
