Lovely, authentic family atmosphere. Despite covid restrictions to only one table, they still made the effort to make it a worthwhile experience. Tales from their home regions in Italy and some great recommendations to the menu got us to try the ravioli. Best in Melbourne!
Amazing Pizza, Defs in my top 5 in Melbourne! Im pretty sure this place has been closed for a few months now though and phone is disconnected :(
Very Happy! Best ravioli so far! Generous serving, well priced. Friendly service. Would recommend it to anyone. Tiramisu was best so far compared to other places, maybe bit less sugar in mascarpone would make it perfect!
Gatto Rosso was a recommendation from a work mate and I was keen to give it a go especially after reading the positive reviews. Sometimes reviews can be a bit of a let down, but certainly not on this occasion.
My friend and I shared a pizza, capriciossa and pasta, spaghetti alla pescatora (seafood). When the food arrived I was slightly concerned that we over ordered. Even more so because there’s a disclaimer on the menu saying no take away on left overs. But I really shouldn’t have worried because as soon as I took a bite into the pizza, it was so tasty and not heavy or oily at all. I loved how all the ingredients on the pizza were so fresh, especially the artichoke. The seafood pasta was beautifully cooked and balanced, not under or over powering. The sauce was a stand out and was so good that we basically ate every last bit. It’s a little more expensive than your usual local restaurant but a highly recommended place to dine at when you are after an authentic flavoursome Italian meal. I know for sure I will be back!!
this place is always busy, owners are fantastic and lovely staff. great food. never disappointed.
will return with a few friends soon. thanks
Just really really good pizza. You can get take out or you can dine in. If you get take it you can watch them make the pizza through the window. If you dine in, you will be treated like a king.
Have seen this place every time I get off the train. On seeing the great reviews tried it tonight.
NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!
Lovely warm Italian staff, generous menu lots of choices and good prices. The place was buzzing. Once a table was empty, it was filled again. Obviously lots of regulars.
Me: chicken Parma. Three lovely small chicken schnitzels so moreish, mash potato and veggies. Partner: beef ravioli. Home made. Slightest hint of pasta and delicious beef and veggie inside that popped. Both were brilliant; on size, taste, presentation and cost. Delicious.
Dessert of Tartino al cioccolata. As you can see the photo only shows the half left, gobbled it and the ice cream down too quickly, that's how lovely it was. A choc pudding with soft insides.
We took our own booze. Have to come back!
Great local restaurant! Great food, authentic flavours, generous served at reasonable prices. The night we were there the only complaints we had was that it was a little noisy (on a Wednesday night it was really busy- so a compliment too!) It was also a little overheated and uncomfortable... but service and food could not be faulted.
A couple of nights later we had take away and it was great too! Lovely pizzas! Will become a regular go to for us! Grazie!
We love dining here, we are always recognised by staff and they are very warm and welcoming every single time we go. They make a lot of effort in ensuring customer satisfaction with a real authentic italian vibe. We normally sit upstairs, the restuarant is really nice itself the only negative is it is generally quite loud as the are always busy.
We get the gnocchi and kamikaze pizza almost every time and cannot fault the food.
I very rarely give a restaurant a full "5," but honestly Gatto Rosso truly deserves it. The ambience is right, the lighting is right, and the service is wonderful. The food is authentic, delicious; ingredients are fresh and of great quality. Overall, a fantastic experience! I recommend sitting upstairs.
Gatto Rosso have perfected the art of woodfired pizza! My partner and I always order pizza from here when we can't be bothered cooking at home. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Lovely wine selection when dining in and quick preparations when ordering food to takeaway. My favourites would be the 4 Staggioni and Pollo pizzas as well as the Calzone. All very tasty and include high quality, fresh ingredients!
Dine here on a regular basis. The pizza's are wood fired & to die for & have enjoyed all of the Italian dishes I've eaten on the menu. The hosts.
are lovely & have a real passion for everything they serve. Would thoroughly recommend if you love authentic Italian food.
Authentic, traditional Italian cuisine served in cosy humble set surroundings. Elements of modern Australian influence have mixed in well into the menu without in any way leaving you feeling anything else other than a great night out Italian!
Third time here tonight in last 6 months @ 6 pm sitting - (4 adults and 2 teenagers). The popularity means 2 sittings offered on a Saturday (6-8 + 8pm+)
Awesome flavors across menu and consistent high quality across all last 3 visits. Pizzas and Main menu offerings superb. Prosciutto cheese entree superb for freshness of flavor for the dry cured ham. Quality of the Crumbed lamb cutlets have become an adult favorite in last 2 visits and the teenagers highly recommend the pizzas.
Garlic focaccia entrees recommended and desserts simple but if you like your liqueurs do not pass up on the Affogato.
Price consistent with Brighton locale. Value-cost equation fair, but to repeat great food, service, authenticity and ambiance. Caty & Ezio great owner hosts and Alberto the chef is the one responsible for the cuisine. 4 adults, 2 teenagers, 3 courses each, 3 soft drinks + 1 beer, we did BYO wine - $284.
Pretty red kitty. Gatto Rosso (The Red Cat) led the trend of quality food businesses in Martin St. Several years on, it's still good quality and value Italian fare.
Our table on this occasion shared some garlic focaccia before ordering our own meals. My entree swordfish carpaccio ($16) was brilliant - light but flavourful garnished with orange segments, rocket and Parmesan shavings. The special eye fillet cofanetto l chose as my main ($32) was a succulent piece of meat rolled around a moreish mushroom filling with abundant and excellent gravy, tasty vegies and crisp fries. It was huge but so good l would have eaten another one. For dessert, the almond semifreddo ($12) was sweeter than l expected with lashings of chocolate sauce and shards of nut brittle - but still yummy.
Run by a northern Italian husband and wife team who used to own Buona Sera in Hampton, their experience shows. He's the master pizza maker, serving up thin and crispy pies with exactly enough topping. She's the front of house who coordinates kitchen and customers to make it all run smoothly. The chef, whoever that is on the website, knows what he is doing. And the wait staff are all from the homeland - some more capable than others but the accented English is charming.
The one main draw back of service is the note on every page of the menu that says there are no take away containers. That seems wasteful, and annoying when the restaurant offers many.of the dishes as take away food! Maybe the owners had a bad experience before, but it's a bit of nuisance, especially when the serves are often more generous than you expect. Other restaurants manage risks by instead reminding patrons to reheat food appropriately.
I was invited to a Christmas dinner here for a business l used to work in, so l didn't pay but I would definitely come back for more meals paid out of my own pocket.
Amazing wood fired pizza (evenly spread with high quality toppings and cooked to perfection) and delicious pasta all at very reasonable prices. Lovely staff and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Definitely retuning again 😀
Have such fond childhood memories of eating Nutella pizza when this restaurant was located in Black Rock and it has not failed to deliver once again. Amazing pizza with a crispy, thin base. Seafood spaghetti was sensational. Seafood cooked to perfection and so much flavour in the sauce. Service was friendly and attentive. My only critique would be to write the specials on a blackboard rather than a whiteboard to make it a bit classier. A must try though!
The pizza here is amazing! Being italian and also having been to italy several times, gatto rosso definitely have that authentic italian style and taste. Great food and friendly staff. Love it!
A family favourite. The pizzas are awesome. This place is really popular and does not have that many covers so a reservation is a must after 7.30 on the weekend nights. The owners are really welcoming. Don't go expecting a fine dining experience, but do go expecting really good pizza!
I went there last Saturday night with my husband and daughter and the food was delicious, waiters and the owners are very professional and welcoming. We love this place and always go there to celebrate special occasions. It is consistently excellent. We used to go to their former restaurant in Black Rock and these people are indeed professionals. We LOVE this restaurant. Fantastic.
Wonderful restaurant. My family had dinner here last night. It was great service, and the food was fresh and fabulous. We took our own birthday cake, and the cake fee was very reasonable at $3 per head, withno charge for the children.
The service was very welcoming, friendly and professional.
Regarding comments from diners annoyed at paying a fee for bringing your own cake and wine, I know a great place where you can avoid this. It is called 'home'.
We will definitely be returning
The food was absolutely sensational. Can't say anything other than that!
Authentic Italian from the Piedmont region. Every time I come to this restaurant a clear voice rings out "Buonasera" as the Signora greets us. This restaurant has a great atmosphere upstairs and down with a low brow entrance on Martin St in Gardenvale. The food is medium priced, the place is licensed with Italian wines and their pizzas are divine. Going there is a real treat.
Very tasty. Very tasty food and quite an authentic Italian feel! A bit of a hidden gem!
Only caveat, if you make a booking and you are bringing a pram, make sure they book you for a downstairs table..
Slice of Piemonte. Friendly, family run place in Brighton. Noisy but fun atmosphere with a good selection of dishes. Our table enjoyed the cozze, bruschetta, Tagliata with a special mention to the ravioli with sage and butter. Dolce were very good - my semifreddo was delicious.
Service was fun but professional.
Good value.
Had dinner there last night and it was fantastic. The tortino al cioccolato which was made fresh when ordered was superb. I certainly intend to go back to this authentic Italian restaurant.
We have been customers for years. Amazing pizza, ravioli to die for. Brilliant food. Never disappoints. Highly recommended.
Loved loved loved it. Fresh food, friendly service, all in all a real treat. Reading other bad review regarding $8 corkage per bottle - I strongly disagree and think this is fair and reasonable, how can these wonderful restaurants survive with anything less?
Great food. Lovely friendly staff, always helpful and polite. Favorite menu items include the pizza, swordfish carpaccio and the homemade ravioli al plin. Yummo. Great local spot.
Fantastic fantastic fantastic
Simply amazing woodfire pizza ... No time delay ... No mistake ... No sorry at all ... Bit pricy ... But its worth occasionally ...
Awesome Pizza and very friendly welcoming service. Love it!!
We love this place. Well run , lovely husband and wife team, great pizzas for take away. We have come and had prawns and calamari with salad , very fresh. This is a fantastic local restaurant
GreedyNic. The best pizzas I've had in a long time - apart from the ones we make ourselves. Have tried a few other dishes and all pretty good. Service is always friendly. Happy to have this place in the local neighbourhood.
Great traditional Italian food! I loved it!
Loved it. Went for a quck bite and had 3 courses , had the spcials bean soup, and meat balls, , pasta with chili, yum, staff excellent ,
We have Moved to bayside recently and were checking the local pizza places. After couple of good and not so good attempts e came across Gatto Rosso. Pizzas were amazing. And cannot fault the Service. Will definitely be back!!!
I have been ordering pizza's from Gatto Rosso for the last 5yrs. Highly recommend it, great pizza's with quality ingredients. And great friendly service... 10 out of 10 stars...
Beautiful food, pizza was divine and pasta was authentic. Service was beautiful too. Highly reccomend
Absolutely the best place around for pizza. Have been coming here for years but for takeaway. Decided to dine in and excellent service plus authentic Italian service. Will be back next week! Highly recommended 😎
Had the Polo piza and it was awsome. Authentic wood fired Italian style pizza with the best base you could ever hope for. Toppings were fresh and delicious. Lots of great looking meals to try next time. They do get really busy during peak times so you may need to wait a while but totally worth it.
Incredible!!! This was our first time here and we loved it. Beautiful authentic Italian. Friendly service and the 4 cheese Gnocci was to die for, the absolute best I’ve ever had! Best Italian in Bayside! I’d highly recommend and we will be back for sure.
The best pizza in Melbourne.!!!
I drive 30 minutes just to get their pizza.
I highly recommend this place for the best Italian cuisine and friendly service.
Great pizza - personally they should expand since their restaurant is small and wait times are a little long but the pizza is amazing.
