Review Phayathai Thai Restaurant - Blackburn South

Food was quite bland, beef was overcooked and presentation was lacking. Decor was ok.

Excellent foods and services. Real Authentic Thai cuisine. Yummy!!

Just bought some takeaway thinking of supporting the local restaurant but it was the worst Thai food ever. It didn’t even taste like Thai food so watery with No flavour. Ordered garlic prawns stir fry thinking it’ll be full of flavour but omg it was watery & full of chunky carrots. I’ll differently will not recommend it anyone.

Ordered via delivery service. Never again will I use this pathetic restaurant. The online menu offered sauce with the Roti bread. But it was not included in the delivery. This awful ‘business’ offered no apologies, saying it should not have been expected to deliver what was on its own menu. If looking for Thai, use one of their competitors, of which there are several nearby.

Terrific meal 🥘 We took our family for our son's 21st birthday. The staff were very helpful with our plans and the night was a terrific success. There was plenty of excellent food 🥘 with good options for vegetarian requirements. The staff were very accommodating and our food came promptly. Will definitely go back again. Thanks for a great night. Dale

We had a large group of 18 with many dietary requirements. The staff were very professional always making sure we were happy. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks

Do yourself a favour and ignore all the positive reviews of this place. The food was completely bland. We ordered the Pad Thai, Green Curry and Stir Fry. The Pad Thai was flavourless and just tasted like boiled noodles, the green curry was ok but disappointed with the quantity (came in what I would consider and entre sized take away container) and the cashew stir fry was just too sweet. For approx $15 per item, you are going to get better value somewhere else.

Expensive and not tasty. The interior looks good but not the takeaway we’ve had. Unfortunately this is the worst thai food we’ve ever had. Don’t think we will return.

Ordered takeaway from here over the weekend, and also when we have a craving for Thai this is our usual place.
Ordered the Pad Kee Mao without chilli. I thought this would be bland but was really surprised that it was full of flavour with the garlic and the basil.
There was enough meat and vegetables and was a sufficient portion.
I will keep returning here.

We ended up going local to Phaya Thai on a quietist Saturday night. We had been to this place a about a years ago and remembered that they allow BYO wine so we brought in a bottle with us. Staff were attentive and welcoming and gave us a wine bucket and sat us down. There was a good number of fellow diners do a good atmosphere in the suburbs. We ordered the mixed platter entree for two, mixed vegetables, coconut rice & chicken pad see ewe. The mixed platter entree was a great introduction to the meal and the standout for me was the curry puffs which were golden crispy goodness. The stir fried vegetables were good but interestingly had pumpkin in the mix which gave it the wrong texture as was still quite firm and a little weird. The pad see ewe was disappointing for me. It was rubbery and flavourless and I wouldn't order it again. The previous time we visited we had the green chicken curry which I member to have been very good so perhaps one to go for. Overall a mixed meal of good and average dishes which is reflected in the rating given.

Paid $9.50 for the smallest take away bowl of tom yum with 2 prawns, half a tomato, and 3 pieces of mushroom in it.

Flavour was good - but can't get away with the fact that the portion was miserable for what it is.

This place is a little gem.

True value for money.

Have been there 4 Saturday's in the last month and a bit.

Every dish we have ordered has been plentiful and full of flavor.

And you get to take your own grog.

No ridiculously priced stubbies of beer.

This one is definitely a neighborhood gem, blackburnites enjoy.

I am!!!!!!!

Toodles

My friend and I went here for dinner last night, the food was average. We had chicken red curry and beef massaman. The chicken and beef were both fairly tough and the curry watery. The service was average, had to get someone's attention to order although it wasn't that busy. Bit disappointed really.

The duck red curry and lamb gar salad was 👌🏽. Would recommend.
Down side is small setup with variable service.
For an east side suburban thai restaurant its fine.

went for dinner tonight on my daughters 3rd birthday. pad thai was inedible - it was so super salty even for a person who can handle their spice /salt. my wife and i literally just had a spoonful and mentioned to the server.

he neither gave us the option for getting the kitchen to make a new one. on top of it he charged the full amount for the dish . we left empty stomach and were left so disappointed . all i got was a non-intentional sorry and would really ask everyone who reads this review to not visit this restaurant because they are the biggest hypocrites with only a fake smile to offer but nothing to back it.

mentioned to the server that we

Can't go wrong with an old favourite. Our favourite Thai food - even much fancier (and more expensive!) Thai restaurants don't quite measure up as far as I'm concerned. we have been regulars for years and keep going back even though Phaya Thai isn't very local for us anymore. Their Pad See Ewe noodles and curries are amazing.

Another brilliant local restaurant to experience. We really are spoiled for choice in Box Hill South, specifically along Canterbury Road and surrounds, with excellent dumplings, fish and chips, Indian, pizza and, of course, Thai. Since moving into the area we have tried all the other choices but hadn't yet tried Thai. Between two choices, we chose Phaya Thai, as the other restaurants along that inner strip are wonderful.

We were definitely impressed on a fairly gentle yet-still-on-holidays Monday night. Table for two, with a serve of the mixed entree dish to share, the signature-listed lemongrass dish and chicken satay dish, with both jasmine rice and jasmine tea. Waitress was lovely and attentive; interior was small but charming (especially the Thai-inspired metal art plate and bird-dragon pieces); food service was quick, at about 10-15 minutes; and everything tasted brilliant for the price bracket, as well as large portion sizes for the two mains (To note: Not sure about other reviews complaining of cost. Everyone has different means, of course, but nothing seemed terribly exorbitant, at around ~$15 a main.) In the spirit of honesty, there were two instances of inedible gristle in the otherwise delicious chicken satay, so that chips away a little but not enough to detract and easily corrected.

So we would definitely visit again and recommend for those looking for a nice experience and great Thai.

Our Favourite Thai restaurant. Small but very personable. Excellent service - their special fired rice is a favourite dish and their general standard is very high - worth experiencing

Pad ga pow is amazing. I could eat it every damn night.

Love lemongrass prawn, green curry and fried rice here. Owesome food! No other Thai compares.

Our favourite local Thai place. A bit pricey but you get fresh beautiful food and the curries are all sublime. Recommended.

Very slow service. No apology for long wait. Nice food but very pricey.

The food is reasonable, but for the price its not good enough. The traditional Char grilled meats are just not charred. They were cooked at an insufficient temperature to achieve the desired effects. The chicken though well marinated and tasty, was like steamed chicken.

Needs more effort to be good enough.

Food ok: service terrible. .... Food ok: service terrible.
We ate here tonight and some at the table really enjoyed their food; Some found it far too salty. the food came out randomly with one dish and a rice completely missing ( we were only a table of 4) there did not appear to be enough table staff and there was a very laid back approach in all respects. I would try somewhere else.....

Not too Shabby. Ordered take away including sweet and sour beef, vegetable dish and rice for two people. The sizing was generous, however the price ($28) was a little beyond the average quality of the products. It tasted as you would expect, but nothing spectacular. A good take away option, however slightly overpriced. Friendly service and quick preparation.

Excellent Food and Well Priced. I went there for dinner and ordered a vegetarian stir fry which was fresh and tasty in a lovely spicy sauce.

The Phad See See was great...crispy noodles stir fry with beef.

A mixed plate entree of satay chicken sticks, fish cakes, spring rolls was excellent !...the peanut sauce is sublime !.

All dishes are well priced and I would not hesitate in recommending this place to anyone.

Delicious! The chicken red curry was beautiful. The special fried riced was extra special, lots of cashews nuts! Super tasty.

Best Thai foods in Victoria. The foods are exceptional, Beautiful in taste and High in Quality for Traditional Thai foods, cooked by masterchef. Very Yummy. Top produces without the price tag. I definitely recommend this Phayathai Restaurant as a Regular take-out (take-away) or Dine in. The food is cooked fresh by order, most of the order would be ready in 15 minutes, so very Impressive and very healthy Thai-cuisine. Best one I've seen in Victoria...Let's go and try it!!

Average Thai. Pro: Price, service, food to table timed perfect. Entree (Roti bread and Prawn rolls) awesome!

Con: No alcohol - BYO only, Pad Thai had no flavour other than a slight burnt flavour!! Beef was tough and chewy. Very small restaurant which makes it very noisy and hard to hold a conversation!

The food from this restaurant is NOT thai food. It resembles more of a mix of Aussie/Chinese food as there is very little flavour or spice. For real Thai food lovers I'd suggest a drive to Tonkra Thai near Chadstone; where the food is authentic Thai, fresh, hot & spicy.

Great food, tom yum soup with chicken fried rice and a serving of prawn rolls, yummy!
