Had lunch at Lily loves George today and it did not disappoint. The ambience is great and staff super friendly and attentive. I had the calamari which was to die for! The orange and fennel salad was so fresh and the flavours were beautiful. It's great to know they are now open Saturday's so I can come down more often. This cafe is just what the area needed!!

I cannot fault this cafe, service is always polite, friendly and attentive. The cafe is quite small though and very popular so it can become a bit overcrowded, definitely recommend booking in advance. I’ve tried several items on the menu and have always enjoyed them.

Sometimes all you need to see is the outside of a cafe to know it’s going to be good. Just a quick glance will do it. Lily Loves George was just such a place ... subtle window signage (if you will at least ignore the giant gorilla street art when you walk up from the other direction), and a homely warm looking interior. A queue forming just before 12noon and all the tables occupied already bar the table I got and one that was reserved for later.
I chose a Reuben sandwich from behind the counter. This was a popular choice by us blokes as in the 30 minutes I was inside all but one was taken. Coffee arrived before my toasted Reuben and it was satisfying if not a tad on the weak side of acceptable for me (I should have gone strong).
The Rueben was a very tasty combination of cheese, sauerkraut and in this instance pepper coated corned beef slices. The pepper gave the sandwich a lovely zing about it and was definitely tasty. I really enjoy this item. I didn’t see they had a menu of dishes to try and was for a second filled with fomo when a fellow diner was served up a delish looking burger. Then I remembered how good my lunch was and all was good.
Really friendly staff who knew a fair few of the regulars by name. Will be one place I come back to for certain... possibly with my folks or folks in law (locals) in tow.

Back in the day, this was a butcher shop, a little butcher shop with a very friendly butcher, now it's a little cafe with very friendly staff. It can get a bit squishy in here, with a banquette running from the door to the back wall of the dining area, and several (maybe 5) tables for two, one for up to three and a couple for four. With quite a few businesses in this area, there was a constant flow of take-away orders, and generally it seemed as if staff knew most of the faces grabbing their cuppas.
My teen and I managed to grab a table just before 9.00am, and shortly after that, there wasn't a spot left. I am told the cappuccino was good, but I have decided I am just not into Prana Chai 'masala blend'. Firstly as with other cafes that use this product (it's popular, clearly), there's just not enough flavour, it's not a bad taste, it's just weak. I am also not a fan of the fact all the lovely froth is left in the strainer that is needed for the solids not to be added to the cup. You can't even skim the cinnamon and froth off, as there are bits of spice floating in that. Whinge over.
Miss selected one of the breakfast muffins from the window, they are egg and bacon and you have a choice of either a bbq sauce with it, or a tomato relish. Initially the relish was requested 'on the side' but they're already built, so she went with the bbq sauce instead. They're put in a panini press I suspect, it came piping hot - not sure if a microwave was in play before the press. In any case, it was enjoyed (though the bbq sauce was deemed a bit too sweet for her), and had to be eaten with a knife and fork, as it was a bit sticky on the outside - and super-heated, so not your usual eat with your hands muffin.
I went with 'Benny', choice of toasted sourdough or multigrain with bacon, two poached eggs, hollandaise and a fine julienne of apple. This was lovely, good bacon, well-cooked poached eggs and a golden hollandaise.
To finish, the teen decided she had room for a treat - a Chocolate and Raspberry Gateau was staring directly at her and resistance was futile it seems. it's a tube of dark chocolate encasing layers of chocolate and raspberry cake, topped with fresh raspberries - 7 of them in fact, in winter, in Melbourne, and Miss delighted in every one of them, which she said offset the sweetness of the cake well.
If you can snaffle a spot to eat in, I think you will be pleased. If there is nowhere to sit, consider take-away as I was tempted by the baguettes in the display cabinet, along with the lunch menu items, and specials on the blackboard too.
The Portuguese tart had a deliciously smooth eggy custard with a hint of caramelised sugar on top (see first pic). It was a nice size (a little bit bigger than most Portuguese tarts I've seen/eaten) and the pastry was thin and flaky. This was very nice with a cuppa.
This place is busy for a reason . The service , food , juices and coffee are all of the quality you'd expect on Brunswick or Acland street , but in the beautiful borough of Blackburn.
This quaint little cafe is the perfect place to go for some decent coffee and a nice meal if ever in the Blackburn area. The cafe has a casual, cozy feel to it, and the staff are very friendly and inviting. The quality of the food here is good, and the presentation is nice, without a 'professional' vibe.
Great smashed avo and poached eggs on toast. Chai tea was good too (they do leaves, not powder). Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff, will definitely go back again. :)
We had the Today's special which is the chicken burger. The chicken was cooked to perfection and I love the bacon jam on the buns. Chips were served with the burger. They were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The staff at the cafe were really friendly and the service was good. Will definitely go back next time.
I'm new to the area and am enjoying sussing out all my new locals. This one is definitely a gem. Cosy interior and really friendly staff embrace you as sob as you walk. They have a lovely breakfast/brunch menu. I enjoyed the quinoa bircher abs just polished it off with it's lovely selection of fresh fruit. I can't wait to return and try the rest of the menu. Definitely one of my new favorites
I love L❤️G. In fact since it opened I have become a regular customer (a little like Norm from Cheers without the beer). I am a local and know most of the cafes north of the railway line and used to have another favourite. But alas what typically happens is either the food, coffee and service starts off great and then dies or its just greasy stodge from the start. What Blackburn needed was a higher class of quality workday food options. L❤️G delivers in spades. There is one other cafe equally as good for coffee (south of the train line).
Seating space at L❤️G is limited but the staff are amazing at managing and accommodating their customers. As a business owner we often defer our meeting to here, a second office.
My rating is biased, it's allowed to be. And why? Because I put my money where my rating is. I think on average I invest $45 in coffees and $45 in food over the course of a week. I love it.
simply and clean menu with expectation flavor without being to over worked. the staff and decor are wonderful with warm smiles and great banter filling the cafe. my advice is this tho, there is limited seating so please do book a table as you don't want to be disappointed by not being able to enjoy all that Lilly loves George has to offer !
Came here today after trying two other times but were unable to get a table. Staff were super welcoming and bubbly, food menu was small with breaks feast only going till 12. As said before there a limited spaces for this small cafe, and it's popular and I see why. Food was exceptional and oh so filling! This combined with the friendly staff made it a positive experience.

Always friendly, will get to know you by name and the best ever value and tasting brekky muffin and coffee combo take away for $6.50. Can't beat it. Also tastiest scramble for miles.
While a bit pricey, I would still highly recommend it for the occasional lunch/breakfast (and dare I say date spot?). Get there early to secure a seat.
The eggs are brilliant, and the Manwich is finger licking good.
If you have a craving for a burger, they also make one of the better burgers in the area.

Stopped here for a quick business meeting for a coffee & small bite. Great option for high quality coffee & food in this Easter suburb location.

Iced latte as it was 30+ degrees outside! The flavour was spot on & enjoyable on a warm day. My friend had a Capp which looked alright, was drowned in chocolate powder & not sure how the milk texture was. Given the surroundings, I would be here on the regular if I lived in this suburb.
Food ordered:
My friend ordered a Pork sandwich which was juicy & flavourful. Well portioned for the price as well. I had a small gluten free fig cake that was just sweet enough but nothing amazing in taste.
Ambience:
Not much seating here & crowd formed around the door as the afternoon coffee break wave of customers streamed in. So get here early to get a table. The service was casual, friendly & approachable. No complaints here!
So overall I can't give highly detailed review as I did not sit down for a proper meal. I have given the current score based on what they offer for being deep in the suburbs. If you live nearby, check it out.
Thoroughly enjoyable - great service, good food and amazing coffee. The Banana bread French toast with cheese cake is absolutely divine and takes you to a happy place.
Had a plate of chicken and coleslaw in a light Vietnamese inspired sauce which was really light and tasty but I thought way overpriced for a salad in the burbs $15 approx but good, friendly service, very efficient, especially appreciated as we were on a work lunch break. Nice atmosphere and vibe.

Really cute cafe with old school trinkets decorating the place. We had the scrambled eggs and smashed avo, the egggs Benedict with salmon and added homemade hashbrown and a salted caramel milkshake.
The cafe was real busy when we first arrived with plenty of coorperates and local workers coming in for coffee and takeaway. Staff handled in great and were so friendly and helpful. Food didn't quite hit the spot though, the homemade hashbrown was too thick and not too my liking. Would go back though and try the other dishes, especially the burgers which are available only for lunch.

A cute little cafe in the middle of Blackburn, the staff are all so friendly and the food is great. Lunch is pretty good, but the breakfast menu is where you want to be. My highlight was the hash brown, which was not like a normal hash brown but more like delicious mashed potato in a fried little block. Amazing.
I decided to have the ‘Salt and Pepper Calamari with rocket, fennel, orange and basil aioli ($16.00)’. If you have found calamari rubbery in the past, then I strongly suggest that you visit Lily Loves George and order this dish. The calamari was so tender and moreish!

Continuing my month of suburban cafe's this week I visited Lily Loves George in Blackburn. I've passed this place on a regular basis and always wanted to pop in. Unfortunately, my luck has always had me pass on a Sunday - the only day they are closed. I finally made a point to visit on a Saturday and this little café holds it's own as one of the best little cafes in the area.
Great atmosphere, great food, great coffee. What more do you want?
Their only downside is a lacking of vegetarian options, especially on their lunch menu, but other than that, highly commendable

Very, Very good. had breakfast here this morning and the small cafe was nearly full, which is always a good sign. We soon learnt why, seated immediately with water each, our coffee order was taken and menu's left with us. Coffee arrived soon after and we both ordered poached eggs with various sides. The coffee was very good. Food arrived about 10 minutes later, which is pretty good considering the cafe was full and more people were still coming in for takeaways. Food was excellent, perfectly cooked on a warm plate. very comfortable and quirky surroundings, overall an excellent experience, definitely give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
A cosy dwelling in Blackburn that reveals a modern space, presenting a colour theme of yellow, black and white and big windows to let the sunshine in. The neat wooden furnishings and decorative arrangements create a relaxed ambience that evoke the beauty of simplicity. Beware of the delectable display of pastries and muffins on the front counter however, they’re hard to resist.
We ordered the Pannacotta ($13.00) with seasonal fresh fruits and honey, the Dukkah Eggs ($16.00) - two poached eggs on toash with smashed avocado, mint, feta, lemon and dukkah spices , the George Burger ($17.00) with cheese, tomato relish, mustard, mayo, lettuce and thick cut chips, the Coconut and Almond Chia pudding ($13.00) with fresh fruits, tapioca pearls and toasted coconut and a pot of lemongrass and ginger tea ($4.00). I thoroughly enjoyed my beautifully presented, creamy pannacotta, definitely one of my menu favourites, and the seasoned eggs were refreshingly zesty. The chia pudding was also very creamy and surprisingly filling. I was disappointed with the burger however, as it was a bit boring and the quality of the bun could be better. The chips were fresh and crispy but overall, I expected this dish to be more appealing for the $17.00 price tag.
I think i've found my new favourite cafe! :) I ordered a hot chocolate (I'm not a coffee drinker) in a mug and got it in a drinking jar! It was the cutest thing! AND it was actually a decent amount and not too rich. You'd be amazed how many cafes I've been to that just can't get a simple hot chocolate right. Also the muffins were yummy, the staff were lovely and the set up was great and cozy.
I never thought Blackburn could offer a decent café....until Lily Loves George opened. The staff are great, always friendly, always polite, always greet you as soon as you walk in. Now the food, anything that comes from this café is simply amazing. It's more on the expensive side in comparison to other cafés in the area and that's what you should expect when buying quality food. My personal favorite is the pork baguette. I'm not sure who makes the best pork baguette in the world but the ones at Lily Loves George are unreal! They even have the thinnest shavings of apple in it. Go to this cafe and buy a pork baguette, then let me know when so we can eat pork baguettes together and celebrate!
Such a great menu and I love the take away hot options, which you can eat in the cafe. Had a beautiful soup and curry today and fresh juice. Was delicious. The staff were very lovely and attentive.
Cosy little cafe!. A cute, cosy, little cafe. Staff were very friendly and were great with our two year old son, which we really appreciated. Coffee was nice and all the dishes we ordered were tasty, with fresh and high quality ingredients. There werent many sweet brunch options for a sweet2th like me but the scrambled eggs and bacon i ended up ordering were delicious, so i definitely did not leave dissappointed!! Would highly recommend this place.

Eastern Suburb Pioneers!. When you visit LLG , you can be forgiven for feeling as though you have walked into an inner-city coffee bar. Something you would find in the backstreets of Fitzroy or even down the heart of Flinders Lane in Melbourne. Chances are you will probably check your Google Maps app a few times just to remind yourself that you are actually in the middle of the leafy Eastern suburb of Blackburn. Who says that there is no café's to visit out in the 'far east' of Melbourne suburbia? I would challenge them to drop in and give this little gem a go. These ladies have smashed that Melbourne coffee culture stigma right out of the park!
The level of quality in both food and beverage from this little 15 seater is unrivalled for the area. The unique breakfast offerings that use the best of what is current and even stamps it's creative authority by using some left of centre ideas, keep the punters interested. The precision and use of quality ingredients just makes everything look and taste 'so damn good!'. Chef Amy has this little well oiled machine running like clockwork. The ladies at the front of house work efficiently to ensure fluid service at all times. Your coffee, a Toby's Estate house blend (Or Single Origin) will come with an amazing smile from the most pleasant and composed 'baristress' I have met in Melbourne - Once again, smashing the stigma that your modern day barista has followed in the footsteps of the old angry French pastry chef!

Hidden Gem. A quaint little cafe with a simple menu that is always beautifully cooked. The gnocchi is delicious, as is the smashed avo. The coffee, though nothing life-changing, is both decent and consistent. The owner is friendly, the decor is cute (the yellow always brightens my mood) and a full meal won't leave you penniless.

Consistently good coffee. Easily the best coffee in the Blackburn Central area. They use good beans (Toby Estate) as their house blend, with single origin available as well. The two baristas I've been served by both produced an excellent cup.
Best local Cafe. I come her every morning for breakfast. Great price and excellent service. Recommend it to everyone. Can't go wrong with a side of Kingston bickies. Love it!!!!

Great food, great atmosphere!. Lily Love George is a cute little corner cafe. It's so bright and pleasant to be in, and the food is so good! I've been here twice and both times have been excellent! Shoe string fries could be replaced with an alternative form of chips, but that basil mayonnaise is such a delight to taste.
Coffee is excellent too! Look forward to more visits in the future!

Spot on!. Passed by this cafe many times and always intrigued to go in as it looks so cool even from the outside. Was blown away by how much they have transformed this cafe from the previous one, the decor and general set up is spot on! Had drinks and morning tea here, everything was delicious and accommodating. Can't wait to go back for break your lunch!

Pretty Cute.. Smashed avocado. That's it, just that in a bowl please. Oh, wait... might as well add a homemade hash-brown some poached eggs and a few slices of salmon. This place does rad brekky. So far only Monday to Friday but fingers crossed the new year brings us weekends. Coffee is hot, strong and smooth. Now a daily stop, thanks for bringing some much needed vibrance back to Blackburn ladies.

What we found did not disappoint. The cafe was well lit, with trendy decor and yet spaciously aware of their diners need for their own space. The menu was a great spread of modern favourites, my eggs Benedict was poached perfectly and presented clean and crisp. My Coffee was full bodied yet sweet, a sign of a good barrista. Will be back and bringing friends

This new cafe is lovely. We visited for afternoon coffee the other day. The Chai Latte was beautiful! But it did cost more than others of a similar size in the area.
Also ordered a muffin. I believe it was passionfruit and it was so nice.
Love the decor and details of their logo on the cups & bags.
