The Little Woodpecker is my favourite cafe!! I drive half an hour to have their food and coffee, sometimes only going just for sweets. Not only does it have a cute design, delicious food and coffee, but the staff and owners are wonderful too. It's the perfect cafe!

We ordered the Avo and his Lebanese mates dish and the smoked salmon special. Both dishes were light, healthy and refreshing. Just what I need. I also had the B1 and B2 smoothie. $9 was a bit pricey for a smoothie and it tasted a bit warm when drinking. Instagram @flabnbone_food
First time visiting this cafe as I wanted to check out a new cafe in this area! The decor is very cute and inviting, with lovely staff.
You are spoilt with choice on the menu from sweet dishes to tasty savoury breakfast and lunch options. I went for a sweet dish, the French toast which was different to others I have previously tried. It had a middle eastern vibe as it was served with a fig and honey glaze, coconut ice cream, chocolate spread and sprinkled with nuts and berries.
My mum has the crumpets which she enjoyed however were slightly over toasted but still nice.
We both had a latte in a mug which was perfect and strong!
My partner and I love this place! Casual and pretty space with heaps and delicious vegetarian and vegan menu options.
We most recently got the chilli scramble, french toast and fritters - all amazing. Thanks to the kitchen for the always interesting seasonal menu too!

Ordered: The Nut Cracker and Transformer
We ordered the ‘The Nut Cracker’ which was a Bircher muesli with coconut yoghurt and seasonal fruits. Very yummy and refreshing which went down really well on a hot summers day! The transformer was effectively a tasting plate with smashed avo, fresh OJ and the Nut cracker. Very yummy meal which left us very satisfied. Thanks for the meal guys! Would definitely recommend!
This cafe in Blackburn North is tucked away in a residential area, you wouldn’t think too much of it when driving past but they have a great menu with all your breakfast classics and some inventive dishes. I ordered the ‘transformer’ which combines two of their dishes - the house made coconut rice pudding and smashed avocado salsa on sourdough bread (I added a poached egg). It comes served on a platter with a glass of fresh pressed orange juice. I also had a turmeric latte which was great. I really enjoyed breakfast at this cafe.
Cute little local cafe off Blackburn Rd. Ingredients seem to be mostly locally sourced. Most dishes on the menu are vegetarian/vegan? But you can add your thick cut bacon lol. Will come back.
The cafe is charming, great service, good coffee, only bad thing was that the rice porridge was only slightly warm, rather than hot, it went cold very very quickly as the pear on top must have come straight from the fridge. Excited to try some other things on the menu
Awesome food. Not a huge menu and more breakfasty than lunchy, but superbly cooked and good prices. In a quiet nondescript shopping strip smack in the middle of residential - not on a main road so if you didn’t know it you’d never go past it, but worth turning off for. Delicious food.
Greeted warmly by staff on our way through the door, we were seated in the very clean and well-presented space and the atmosphere was very relaxed and not too loud.
I was excited to see what was offered in the way of meat-free and dairy-free selections on the menu and I was very pleasantly surprised. The menu has been crafted with care and at a glance it seems it would not fail to appeal people with all sorts of dietary requirements (or none).
I tasted a burger, a falafel dish with salad, and stuffed mushrooms. All were unique dishes that I was very impressed with - the falafels were my favourite. All in all, the dishes certainly hit the spot for me.
To have such a number of unique and interesting, non-copycat items available on the menu is a massive plus for Little Woodpecker in today's fresh and healthy food landscape - even the sweeter selection of treats were impressive; I'm talking about some of the best banana bread in the universe here.
Go there and try it out.
Been here twice now and both times were wonderful - really fresh produce, tasty combos, lots of vego options, great coffee. The staff were lovely and was a really cute looking cafe. I will be back :)
Little Woodpecker is a small local cafe located in Blackburn North that specializes in fresh seasonal brunch items with a little bit of a Middle-Eastern twist, as well as custom roast coffee. As Little Woodpecker is the closest local cafe to me, I often find myself visiting them for a coffee and quick lunch.
Lovely service and a solid brunch is always assured when attending this gorgeous little place. The food just makes you feel fresh, healthy and satisfied afterwards. Awesome 👌
Very nice interior and lovely staff. Nice to have a delicious cafe in suburbs. Being a vegetarian there are heaps of options and every meal I have had has been excellent. Chai latte was also great. Will go many times more.
Welcome back to Cards and Cafés! I came across Little Woodpecker just by chance when I was researching café’s online. Let’s be honest, I love going to café’s that have an animal in their name (if you look at my past reviews you’ll see I’ve been to a fair few), so I couldn’t pass on this one.
This is a great little local cafe, with good coffee, tasty food and friendly service.....
Went on a week day at 10am and it was lovely, cosy and quiet- but no doubt that it gets busier over lunch and especially on the weekends. Excellent service and great coffee! I'll definitely be back here again: I 10/10 recommend the rice porridge (pictured!)

First visit to this suburban cafe. Have no complaints about the food or service other than the prices being at the higher end of what we were expecting for this small cafe. There are so many other good cafes around that do food just as well at more reasonable prices. My only complaint was the music. Not really creating a great ambience for a sunday breakfast -this was mentioned to staff at the time of visit. Food was great but had great at other places too.
Just tucked in quietly between Blackburn Rd and Middleborough Rd stood this simple modern small cafe off Katrina Road.
Perhaps it was a slightly dreary, chilly and drizzling late morning that day and the cafe was not crowded, but sitting in there made everything felt just at ease and contented.
For its above pricing range for a neighbourhood cafe, did raise my bar of expectation accordingly and even the names made the menu dishes looked intriguingly good.
It took me a while to decide and "When in Rome" did not disappoint. I was in awe from the appetising and luscious presentation, well balanced of flavourful ingredients right down to the tasty seeded loaf.
I won't give it away too much but I just wanted to add that the memorable "Speedy Gonzales" was quite a delicious way to perk up and got me through the rest of my day.

Decent coffee
I'm glad my sister showed this hidden gem to me because it is absolutely delicious.
The avocado toast was packed with so many delicious flavours, and with added falafels my dish was perfect.
The staff were very friendly with us even when we took a while to figure out what we wanted (there were so many good things on the menu).
Very limited seating as it's quite a small place so i advise to get in early or book (if it's available, i'm not sure).
Definitely coming back again!
Yum! This place serves up some great food with paleo and vegan options. Coffee is great and staff are lovely. They have a kids menu with good prices but their other food is a bit expensive for a little suburban drop in.
What a great cute little cafe hidden in the side streets of Blackburn. I tried the 'Transformers' which was like an entree and main in one! Granola with fruit and yogurt as well as a piece of sourdough with smashed avocado and a poached egg (extra for egg). I found $3 for ONE poached egg quite expensive. Others ordered the 'Manoz loves Potatoes' which looked amazing. As well as the 'King Julius' banana bread. I felt like being different and ordered the Speedy Gonzales which I assumed may be fruity as it was surrounded by fruity items but instead was coffee which I absolutely hate. Luckily for me a friend was happy to switch drinks but a bit more of a clue would have been nice. Otherwise, nice decor and service! Prices a bit high but I would like to try them again sometime.

How times change. Previously this place was an upholstery shop, and a very good one for over 25 years. Now it's a bright little cafe perched on a corner in a group of shops.
The fit out is nice if not spectacular. The counter set up is rather awkward if you're ordering and waiting for a take away coffee. Basically you're in the way of the waiting staff and forced to back up against tables behind you.
It's a small matter though. My coffee here was small but very nice. Creamy, substantive and well made. The service from a pleasant young woman with a tattoo sleeve was very good - efficient and friendly.
I've also tried the Avocado smash. It's well composed, respectable and tasty. The toast used is good. A good whole grain seeded variety. The avocado is good and presented with feta and a nice lemony taste. I also had bacon and poached eggs. Both were excellent. The eggs were beautifully done. Soft, runny and just right. The bacon was very nice. Thick and very favoursome. I'd only suggest trimming the rind. The dish is also presented with a nice herb concoction including full and coriander. I really liked the dish very much.
Little Woodpecker is clearly a popular addition to the neighborhood. People were streaming in the door when I was there and the place was near full. May it continue to do well.
I've been here a few times now and I must say, it's a great little funky eatery. Cool, modern, with a relaxed environment. The food is itemised on the menu with unusual names - apparently there's a story behind it all.
Food is simple, clean, presented well, but most importantly tastes good. Coffee has a unique blend, and staff have been friendly and attentive. Oh, be sure to check out the sweets cabinet.

Very nice and we're very happy to find something like these around the neighbourhood. Wasn't overly busy and crowded which is great cause we enjoyed the peace. Was very impressed with their food presentation as well as their kitchen order time was on point. Less than 10min waiting time. Girls were very attentive and service was very satisfying. Would definitely come back here again.

Cute little cafe at the corner of a suburban street, friendly staff, interesting array of sweet treats... some days they would have interesting & scrumptious-looking donuts, scrolls, as well as raw sweet treats. Coffee is pleasant, a bit watery to my liking. We tried their rhubarb pancake, love the pancake, although the caramelised apple could have been a wee bit softer without losing its crunch & tartness... love love loveee sitting by the window when the sunshine just showers you with its glorious light on a winter afternoon.
Overall, not a bad experience, keep it up Little Woodpecker, & see you again sometime soon. 😃
The advantage of Zomato is a fellow reviewer recommending this little gem that I did not know existed. Thank you Whip. Only 3 months old but has a really nice feel to it, though I am afraid I am a touch old for their soundtrack! Lovely creamy coffee in a mug at the perfect temperature. One of those very rare occasions I ordered a second coffee it was so nice. The menu was varied and had a nice quirky humour to it in the way it was written. Service could not be faulted. The back streets of North Blackburn have produced a winner.
Hunting for EPIC coffee took us to the Little Woodpecker cafe. Why Woodpecker? Something about having a Carpenter dad. This Whippeteer has a Carpenter dad, so!
(Growing up, our Dad loved to listen to "The Carpenters" records - and we actually thought they were tradies, swinging hammers and saws whilst singing away).
This Cafe is GORGEOUS. WOODY. A great place to take KIDS with some things/areas set aside.
The Coffee was DELICIOUS. Service FRIENDLY. The Cafe was SCRUPULOUSLY NEAT, CLEAN and BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED.

A small but busy little cafe in an out of the way part of North Blackburn. The menu includes several vegetarian options. The coffee was very nice, made properly. I had the sweet potato and quinoa croquettes.
The decor is modern and bright. The service was welcoming and attentive. Seems to be a family friendly place - lots of kids ( and consequently a little noisy. Not conducive to quiet reflection!)
Tucked away in sleepy Blackburn, this little endeavour opened up in April this year. Owner Tanya was born and raised in the area, and grew up just a few houses down from the cafe. The interior is done in classic Melbourne cafe style, with tones of white and timber.
Not being too hungry, but still keen to nibble, we opted to share 'The Sandlot Kids', which is smashed avocado served with a trio of mushrooms, salted kale chips, feta, house made pesto on sourdough (and of course we added poached eggs!). This was delicious and well balanced, although we would have liked it if the kale was in smaller pieces and not just in one large piece. But this is a minor gripe and the dish was super tasty!
Coffee here was smooth and well roasted, we love the custom blend here! This is a great addition to the area and we're super keen to visit again. Keep up the great work Little Woodpecker!

Not bad for a hideaway local cafe. The menu consists of the very basic classic breakfast items; I ordered the boyz n the hood which was nice but was also the only thing that appealed to me. Hopefully they'll get a chance to develop their menu upon their basic dishes to deliver something unique, once business picks up a bit! In saying that though there always seems to be fair few people sitting in or grabbing takeaway coffee which is great to see. Staff are lovely as well

Little. Woodpecker is a cosy cafe located in a quiet suburban area. It was busy for a recently opened cafe on a Saturday morning but we easily got a table for two. However, I noticed groups of 4 or more made reservations. I had the 'boyz n the hood' whilst my friend ordered the 'avo & his mates'. It was a simple yet satisfying dish that you can't go wrong with. It may get a little loud in there sometimes due to it being a small cafe so it can be difficult to have proper conversations. If only they had a larger array of dishes to choose from.

If you guys have just read the recent review(the one where someone or something has complained) don't believe a word. This so called food lover hasn't
a clue what they're talking about, or what they were eating. I would bet sour grapes are at the heart of the rant, especially as it seems focused on attacking an individual. As for that person being a chef for over 20 years he/she should be ashamed of for what they have written, I pity their knowledge of food.
Myself and my family regular visit this truly wonderful cafe. The coffee is wonderful. Not only is it delish, the quality is consistent and they humour my pedantic order with a smile and grace, making it seem a pleasure to meet my finicky requests! Yay for service!
The menu caters to vegans, gluten frees and other dietary requirements but with delicious and full flavours, and oh so many choices.
Avocado smash, with or without eggs.....yummy! And if you like bacon you can get some great free range organic pork on your fork.
Now to the nitty gritty......service.
We've never waited long for service or to receive meals. There's always a pleasant greeting from one of the many floor staff, female and male. I've even seen the chefs come and help out on the floor, engaging with customers and having a laugh. To me that's a sign of team work and professionalism.
Free speech is important and I'm glad to be part of a society that supports and protects such an ideal. But to use a review site to have a go at someone, and not in keeping with the intention of the review site, is in pretty poor form and weak.
Go to the little woodpecker have a coffee, enjoy a meal and the service. It's a gem of a place!
A fantastic little suburban cafe, the food was great and the service was second to none amazing!! The young handsome vibrant boy serving me always had a smile on his face and I was astounded by the confidence he held for his age! Defiantly recommend and will have to catch his name next time!

Apart from the neighbourhood cat, patrolling the street, there isn’t much happening on Katrina St. Little Woodpecker brings a wholesome healthy menu and a custom blend of roast coffee. Its healthy food, without feeling deprived. Owner Tanya is living her dream of opening her second cafe in the East. The white interior is bright and awakening, with custom made wooden tables – made by Mr Woodpecker himself. The original intended name was ‘The Carpenter’s Daughter’, named after Tanya’s father – a skilled carpenter. Alas, someone had already taken the name. I had the pleasure of breakfast there just last Saturday morning. The food was fantastic!! Perfect poached eggs, mushrooms were soooooo tasty, toast was soft where it should be & crunchy where you needed it. I'm a decaf coffee drinker with soy - and the coffee was some of the best I've had. The staff are so friendly & just a little bit quirky - loved it!!! My only observation is to put more signage inside so people remember the Little Woodpecker name. It is certainly a place I will go again & recommend to everyone. A breath of fresh air!!!
Have become a regular at the Little Woodpecker since opening, always greeted with a warm infectious smile, tried most things on the menu and loved them all. Coffee is consistently a smooth creamy blend and accompanied with one of their amazing raw treats you can't help but come back for more. A much needed addition to the Eastern suburbs!

Finally there is a decent cafe in Donny east region! Not saying others are not good but this one definitely stands out and can be compared with those big names in the city.
The house blend coffee (I had long black), has a very nice sugarcane fragrance. It’s border line between espresso and long black! Rather nice!
Food was also interesting and generous. Very yummy and the ingredients are fresh, unconventional!
Best part is, every table around me is praising how good their dishes are! This is a gem in the suburb! Hallelujah!!
Another cool little cafe located in a residential area. Love the vibe and friendly staff. I came to try mama Vicki’s meatballs but it was sold out. Nooo,!!!!! both my second and third choices, “salami get this straight” and “gozleme”, were also sold out.
This cafe is a gorgeous little gem in Blackburn North, with almost the entire menu able to be veganised (happy days!!). The staff are super friendly & helpful, & happy to offer suggestions if you are really struggling to choose between the delicious options on offer. Listen to their advice - it is invariably excellent! The soy lattes are delicious too.

Quiet little cafe amongst suburbia. Hipster decor. Excellent coffee but food is a little overpriced.
Gipsy Kings (Baked eggs) - don't be surprised if you can't find your eggs. They mix it in so it cooks quicker. Loved the chillies in this - most of the seeds taken out so it's not too hot.
When in Rome (avo/mush/tomato on toast) but stingy on the toppings for two pieces of toast.
