An amazing dining experience. The starters where absolutely divine, Tuna crostini fennel, tapenade and Balsamic eggplant topped with prosciutto a real treat for the pallet. Cooking on a stone grill is something you must do, fat free and delicious. The beef to die for as was the salmon. Staff very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend coming to this restaurant

My boyfriend and I decided to try a Friday night at Soleny’s stone grill and bar after reading some fun and great reviews on Zomato!
We were not disappointed!
You are given a HOT stone to cook your own steak to your liking, accompanied by roasted vegetables and any other sides you chose!
The mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese are too die for!
We each tried a different cut of beef - I had the porter house and he tried the fillet, and both were amazing.
The fries with the herbs and salt are a must have addition and were the crispiest fries I have had in a long time.
The staff were friendly, attentive and very helpful in all aspects of our dining experience tonight!
The one negative was it can be a little hard to find (go the the big car park areas behind the main row of shops)
This is a perfect place for a romantic evening or night out with friends as the style of dining creates lots of laugh and a sense of adventure! Highly recommend checking this place out!

Found a gem today! Hidden away on the side of a quiet building, this cosy joint showcases some delicious meat (and seafood) grilled on a hot stone plate. Sher Wagyu Eye Fillet M8-9 for $89. Portion size was on the small side but I left feeling satisfied (we shared an entree, bowl of fries and a steak each). Service was a little slow but I wasn't starving so it didn't bother me too much. I can see myself returning soon!

Nice vibes, I enjoyed the experience of cooking my own meat on the hot stone and had extras in the side. I would come here again it was fun, the food was nice and they had good service to match.

This place was beautiful in every sense of the word. The waiter was very friendly & attentive, the food was insanely good. The meat was so succulent & the rocket, goat's cheese, beetroot & caramelised walnut salad was one of the best salads I've ever had. Will DEFINAtELY be returning.

A fun interactive dining experience.  The service was great.  The food was pretty good.  The restaurant is hidden away.  I wouldn't take small children due to the safety factor.  But for my partner and I it was a nice evening, and a nice restaurant for Blackburn.

Excellent food and lovely staff! Would highly recommend. The food comes out on a hot stone and you slice and cook yourself. It's a lot more upmarket than I expected. The restaurant itself is tucked away behind a group of shops which can be a bit hard to find but that's the only negative.

Nice food and service! First time went there,really nice service and clearly explanation about each food. The stone cook is interesting and fun. It's easy to choose the meat for rare medium or well done. Sea food plate is beautiful and fresh as well! Love the chips there too!

This place was a pleasant surprise! The decor and restaurant itself was very well decorated and what a great idea to be able to cook your food infront of you! The chips, wedges and all 4 sauces were to die for! Also the summer fizz mocktail. Would have given this place a 4 but the service was terrible. 1 girl on the floor for a Saturday night. Took so long for her to clear our table after we finished and also no one came to ask if we wanted dessert we actually had to wave our hands in the air. Dessert took 30 mins to arrive also and they weren't that busy. This place is going places but really need more staff for a Saturday night.

We dined at Sonley on Saturday 12/9/15. The 400 degree hot stone cooked our meat beautifully. It was a bit of fun too. We had seafood and the mixed grill and the chocolate fondue for dessert. Sonley looks good inside and the staff were very friendly. No complaints and we'll go back.

I recently went to Sonley due to a recommendation from my co-worker and I never knew that there was a nice grill and bar restaurant at Blackburn (East Melbourne). It’s almost like a secret jewel between the alleyways. I went there with my group of friends to catch up and we went during a weeknight. I called them to book a table for 6 (my coworker recommended me to book first before coming there) and I was surprised that we were the only ones that was there. I felt that I booked the whole restaurant 😀 Anyway a staff greeted us with a smile and she told me it’s usually pack on weekend.

One of the best steakhouse in Suburb! I was here with my family last week and the food and service are awesome :) I love steak and I did try M9 porterhouse and M9 eye fillet, the price is relatively cheap compare with other steakhouse!! ( I paid $150 for a M9 porterhouse last time when I was in Toorak and end up my steak was burnt!) In Sonley, you can choose the way that you want so that you will never disappointed. I read some review for stonegrill before I came here, I was afraid I would burnt my steak. However, it is very simple. Cut it small, turn around for few mins and there you go (Thanks our lovely waitress, Holand, for her patient to show us how it works). Though here is not a everyday restaurant, but we will definitely recommend to our family & friends. Good Luck Sonley.

Second time here now. Had the lamb cutlets and a side of mushrooms. Cooking the cutlets on the stone grill was fun and you get to work on your favorite doneness. Two small mushrooms as a side that cost $4 is a bit dear. Could have been a bit more generous. Overall a great experience. Would recommend to try at least once.

Inner city vibe in Blackburn!!. We had a family event at Sonley StoneGrill and Bar last night and it was great. There is a great space to the side that comfortably fitted 20 of us and gave us some privacy to enjoy the event with our guests. The team there were so friendly and professional. They specially tailored a function menu to suit our tastes, dietary requirements and budget and there was great communication leading up to the day to make sure everything was covered. The food itself was DELICIOUS!. . The decor is contemporary but has a cool and comfortable feel to it. I would definitely recommend it as one of best places in Blackburn (and surrounds)!! I will be going back again.

Enjoyed a lovely meal at Sonley on Monday night before a movie. Service was great, the waiters were really attentive and friendly! The food was superb, had the MS5 porterhouse. The marbling on the steak was beautiful and cooked very nicely. The concept of a volcanic stone grill is great; healthy, quick and delicious. One downside was the $7 for two very small mushrooms as a side. Will definitely be coming back for more.

Wonderful experience. I loved the service and food at Sonley's. The staff were very friendly, attentive and patient in explaining how the stonegrill functions. They gave us some recommendations of what to order which was very delicious and I enjoyed the rocket salad. My family all ordered different types of meat and the quality of the wagyu was superb. I'd definitely recommend coming here if you like grilling meat yourself.

EveLovelle was invited to dine as guest at  Sonley Stonegrill & Bar Days ago, Jan and I got an opportunity to attend a launch party event at  Sonley Stonegrill & Bar . With its unique concept of serving steaks on a stonegrill, it provides for cooking at very high temperatures, at as high as 400ºC. The stonegrill also ensures even cooking in the absence of butter or oil and sears the steak perfectly without burning. What you get from the method of cooking is a healthier and more nutritious meat. The stonegrill ensures all natural food flavour stays intact within the meat, preventing product shrinkage and carbonization that is usually achieved through conventional cooking methods. Six tiered cupcakes from Merry Cupcakes Don't judge me I had five mini cupcakes.. The design of the premises takes on an earthy venture. I wished I could have taken more shots of the interior but it was way too crowded and I could not get a decent picture. Beef Steak Crostini With Feta We sampled various finger food canapés. To start, a tenderlicious steak on crusty bread with sweet caramelised onions and feta. Definitely a burst of multiple flavours done right.

Good food!. We had a good experience tonight at this restaurant. Food was abundant and delicious. The main problem would be the location - it is extremely difficult to find, even with an address. It is basically hidden, or at the back of, a main building. Entrance/whole location seems dingy or depressing. I went on a Friday night - imagine going on a weekday or lunchtime, with less people in the restaurant. However, I understand this is merely a restaurant in a suburban area so I might be expecting too much, ambient and location-wise. On the bright side, service was really good and prompt, and so was the food. Would come again - but only if prices stay the way they are (or are kept down!)

I cant say this is the best but it wont disappointed you. If you are looking for a fine dinning steak, please do not come here.
If you are looking for a quality meat as in the eye fillet, I'm sure here is one of the best in Melbourne!!!!!!! No joke.

Fantastic Meat. Came here on the weekend on a groupon, and have to say that the service was absolutely fantastic! The waitress talked us through the menu, explained the different options we could have and made recommendations, it was refreshing to see such enthusiasm and good service! The waiter was also fantastic, and showed us how to use the stone grill and cook each piece of meat.

For our entrees we had the gyoza and mini risotto balls, the gyoza were a little burnt and tasteless and the risotto balls were quite bland as well. For the mains we had the meat skewers which came with pork, beef and chicken tenderloins, they all came out on a stone grill which we used to cook up the meat. the meat was AMAZING, all of it was delicious and beautifully marinated! We absolutely loved it, and loved the novelty of cooking it ourselves on the stone grill, even though i did lose a few pieces that fell onto the floor!

Dessert was just a scoop of vanilla ice-cream or a scoop of ice cream with small banana fritters, but the main course more than made up for the shortcomings of the entrees and dessert.

Great food and service! We were pleasantly surprised and impressed with the stone-grill steak, asian platter and pumpkin soup. Generous servings and everything was so delicious!! Not bad! Went here for an evening meal. Interesting concept of cooking the meat yourself, a bit of a novelty. We arrived quite late, and ate our meal at 9pm, by that time the side veggies were cold. Perhaps they serve up multiple plates at once? But still that is my only negative remark. Meat was delish.

A hidden gem. Excellent, high quality steak (and some other options too) and a very nice, cozy environment. Without a doubt worth the little effort to find at the back of the Blackburn shops... Our first visit tonight and we're going to make it a 'regular'. Quite well priced too...
