In this modern cafe world, it is service that sells a cafe to customers and the service in Urban Zinc is excellent. Friendly and courteous. Damn fine coffee is a bonus.
Popped in to Urban Zinc Café with hubby this arvo right on closing. (I used to hate that happening when I worked in hospitality) but I was met with a friendly welcome, awesome service, awesome coffee, comfy chairs, great space and funky décor. I liked the FB page to keep up to date with upcoming specials and I'll definitely be back. this is my new hangout for a cuppa and chat with my gals.

Urban zinc is a shop front cafe just across from Blackburn railway station. It sports a urban-industrial look (a little ironic for leafy residential Blackburn) with an exposed brick and distressed sky blue painted wall on one side, and street art adorning the brickwork on the other side. One wall is also decorated by a large brass relief. The table settings comprise paling table tops made from apparently recycled timber, accompanied by moulded plastic wicker-style chairs in red, white or black. I experienced a pleasant ambience, with some low level and unobtrusive soul music playing in the background. The coffee was well made, and came with a mini muffin which was a nice touch. The menu is interesting, and includes the breakfast usuals, and a range of lunch options, including several vegetarian items. I selected the field mushroom burger, which was attractively presented, and very nice. It was accompanied by battered and lightly fried zucchini sticks, perhaps a healthier option to the usual potato chips. The service was courteous, attentive and relaxed. I would be happy to return here for another meal when next passing by.
Friendly service, tasty breakfast and good coffee. Good sized menu with both breakfast and lunch options which is hard to come by these days, a lot of places seem to concentrate on breakfast offerings.

Found this cafe on here (zomato) and thought my partner and I would try it out. This is our second time this month we came here, the first time I ordered a hot chocolate and my partner ordered a caramel latte and then we both ordered eggs Benedict (The first time the toast was a little hard for our liking).
We took my partners mother today for early mothers day and they did not fault one bit this place. As in the picture below I ordered a chai latte and wasn't expected to get it like that and I was very excited and happy to have it like that, I thought it was cute 😊 also we got the toast lightly toasted and as I said it was amazing. Also as little treat they gave us complementary mini muffins. The staff are really nice and I'll be definitely be coming back.
P.S. it was the best chai I've ever had, with that touch of honey was amazing.
This is our new favourite place for breakfast. The Rosti is delicious, crunchy crispy outside with a perfect herby soft inside matched with perfectly poached egg, spinach, mushrooms, avo and grilled tomato. The owner loves great food and clearly delights in providing his customers with a great dining experience. We want to go there everyday.
Located by South Parade Rd, near the corner of Gardenia St, this simple small cafe is just across Blackburn station with a good stream of customers.
The longer wait was worth it for a hearty Veggie Stack which was beautifully presented and delicious with the generous portion of cooked veggies and haloumi.
Coffee was rich & full flavoured.
Price was in the above range but reasonable. Staff there were friendly too.

What a solid cafe. My fiance and I came here on a Sunday morning after a night out and unlike most friends of mine, I don't crave a big cooked breakfast the morning after. I crave clean and wholesome and their quinoa porridge hit the nail on the head. It was smooth and creamy and the berry compote was just the right contrast in flavor. They were very accommodating when I asked if it was possible to have fresh banana added to the dish. It felt cleansing and delicious all at once. My fiance ordered one of the burgers and it looked great.
The cafe has such a cool, chilled vibe. I'm only walking distance away and they'll definitely see me again
These guys have the best coffee in Blackburn on the South side of the tracks. Nice atmosphere to sit in and the staff are friendly. There are several coffee options and they will happily chat about it.
First visit here. Liked the Bircher muesli , full of lots of bits & pieces & nice flavour. The coffee was took me by surprise too & was excellent. I will be back

A lovely big breakfast here this morning with a friend who was gf. She said the gf bread was very tasty and my scrambled eggs were delish. Soy Coffee was not to bad either. I'll happily head back.
Choosing the path less travelled we took Wasabi the super pup to "Urban Zinc" today (walking past the packed cafe on the next block).
Our Experience:
* Hole in the wall 'walk thru' option works well here (esp with a dog).
* Service - warm/friendly.
* Latte - warm/strong/luscious. LOVED the fact that there was NO COFFEE ART in the foam.
Bemused, we saw numerous people walk past Zinc to go to the other cafe down the street. Why? We can only guess.
But for the Whippeteers today, we loved it. Will be back!
Salmon rosti was delicious! Service was great and friendly. Nothing fancy but if you're after a cheap and tasty local meal, definitely check this place out!

Have popped in a few times for a late lunch with a work colleague. Food has been decent considering how late in the day it has been and service is always prompt and friendly. I'm not a coffee drinker, but the green tea is adequate and served in a super cute little pot!

Pleasantly surprised. Popped in to this cute cafe today for the first time after seriously craving a caffeine hit and was not disappointed! The barista was amazing and the lady that served me (owner maybe?) was delightful and "real" which is something that i find lacking in this day and age.
Passion shines through in every aspect here, from their food, to their coffee to their good honest customer service.
Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a precious moment spent at this delightful little slice of heaven. I'm sure you deserve it!

Tried this local cafe for the first time since its opening. Food and coffee were really nice, I'd say they've taken on board the negative feedback they've received to make improvements. Not so sure about the service though... We seated ourselves (after going in and letting them know we were here) then waited a good 10 mins for menus/water/anything. Eventually went in and asked for menus and were told they were coming. Shortly after a waitress came with menus and water but left before we could order our coffees? After that a different waitress came who was much more friendly. Once ordered our food did come out really quickly. This cafe has so much potential and enjoyed the food would give it a 8/10 but probably 6/10 because of service
Great place but prices a bit all over the place. We love this place and the people are really lovely.
They have lovely drinks and food. The only thing is some of their pricing is inconsistent with what is offered. We have a little baby and ordered him toast. We were charged $6 for kids toast. This is a lot more than nearby cafes. Apart from that - great food ideas and reasonable prices.
Cool cafe at last for Blackburn. Blackburn deserves this new cool cafe. It's a welcome surprise to choose from an interesting breakfast menu rather than the old boring standards found at nearby places. I have been twice in two weeks and so far tried the quinoa porridge with coconut milk and the pear mascarpone toast with walnuts. Both lovely. The coffee was nice and the decor "Richmond / Collingwood" coolness. Thankyou can't wait to try more.
Fabulous Cafe. The food scene in Blackburn is starting to expand - finally!!! I went the Urban Zinc yesterday for lunch with a girlfriend. The staff were friendly & their service was fantastic. A wonderful menu, with all day type breakfast meals and lunches. I had the Vegetable stack, which was absolutely delicious!! Coffee was fabulous too. I'd highly recommended it and can't wait to go back!
My new local!. So delighted to welcome Urban Zinc Cafe to the area. my first visit today and the coffee is good enough that I don't need to trek a couple of extra km to The Maling Room or Coffee Head now. This area is ripe for a great cafe. My only question is where are all the men? Maybe it's the time of day but the air is filled with the comforting chatter of garrulous women right now. A flying start!
At last ! a decent cafe in Blackburn. Urban Zinc is the new cafe on the block, and I went there on day #3 with the hope that Blackburn might have an inner-city quality cafe at our door-step. The answer was very positive indeed - well done UZ !
The decor is a bit quirky, but who cares. Food and coffee a step up from the alternatives already.
And, it is getting a crowd so soon.
I decided to have something from the specials board, the ‘Homemade Lasagne with garden salad ($14.50)'. Fortunately, this was the last piece they had left. The lasagne had a deliciously rich bolognese sauce and the herbs were evident.
Excellent quality food and great range of vegetarian options (and other) on the menu for breakfast and lunch, all well priced. A small place opposite Blackburn station but have always been able to get a seat. Great coffee, friendly staff and food arrives quickly.
