We ate here for breakfast I had the poached eggs with salmon in toasted Turkish bread and it was Devine, service excellent, coffee amazing. Great atmosphere a buzz of people also enjoying their meals. We will be back! Thank you 😃
What a perfect cafe... I love the cakes and our coffee wasn't bad. The staff were super friendly. we loved it wasn't too cramped, had a lots of natural life and quite music.
Located down a very ordinary alley on a suburban street this doesn't fee promising, but the reputation is what brought us here and I'm glad we persisted. I'd been here previously but took one look at the decor and figured it was a mugaccino type place and left. The 80s decor is gone and now local artworks line the walls and the tables look less daggy thanks to sleek lighting and less stuff everywhere. It is a concrete box though, and can get quite noisy.
The big brekky lived up to the description, and for some balance we ordered the French toast. I loved the strawberries and fog reduction, a delicious tart flavour to cut through the sweetness. Excellent coffee, we had two just to be sure. 😋
This Artisan Licensed Cafe Restaurant, situated in Blackwood SA. named the winner 2016 of a number of prestigious Café Restaurant awards, Obviously this cafe is very popular with locals. We enjoyed two, Twice Baked Cheese Soufflés, made of Gruyere, grana gadana & organic cheddar cheese , topped with free range ham, organic cream and chives. Both plates were prepared and served to perfection, leaving us with an appreciation of there popularity. The service was excellent and friendly even though the Café was almost full. Outside there is a very tidy popular alfresco area, with a pagoda, loaded with an aged grapevine, that would give shade in the summer months, making for pleasant summer dining.
Had the full breakfast on a very busy Saturday morning. Really enjoyed their toast, poached eggs cooked well and loved the addition of an apple and pork sausage! However, didn't love their corn and potato fritters - it just kind of fell apart and there's nothing wrong with a good old crispy hash browns instead. Coffee also overpriced at $5.20 for a large flat white!
Nice little cafe. Have been here a few times. If your in the blackwood area probably best cafe. Coffee was good and had a nice cake. No complaints 😆
This place is a great local breakfast joint. Has all the standard offerings for breakfast in Adelaide plus a few little unique additions. Their platter is great and comes with a good size of each item. Will definitely go back (and have since this review!)
As I sit, enjoying a wonderful coffee with a pretty flower pattern, I chance to overhear a minor domestic disturbance at the table next to me. Voices squabble in hushed anger (something about running away from home).Â
For a moment I worry, until I see the waitress arrive with a plate of the 'kipfler potatoes'. The aroma brings tears of joy to my eyes.
As the pair feasts on those glorious sticks of heaven spud, a change is evident.. Brows are less furrowed, the voices have lost their sharpness. Soon they have turned warm and loving - the girl is sorry, the mum is sorry, everyone is sorry.Â
Seriously, this food will remind you of all that is good in the world. Try the roast cherry tomatoes, or the master stock chicken, known to induce bouts of spontaneous singing.
Great cafe with an extensive menu which has plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The staff were lovely. I loved the freshly made olive tapenade and my coffee was great (plenty of milks to choose from!). The decor isn't very inviting but the food and coffee make up for that.

Food is to die for. Everything is interesting and the flavours are spot on. Hot chocolates and chai lattes are the best I've had yet. As for cakes, they have over 20 to choose from! What else could you want?

Had the pleasure of visiting The Artisan Cafe for the first time today.
The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient, but the menu and food really make this cafe stand out.
Perhaps the best range of gluten free options we have seen in any cafe and our meals were simply superb.
The prices were excellent value for what we got.
Highly recommended and worth the visit.
Nice Breakfast.. First impressions are lasting and i will return! very casual & comfortable, lovely staff and good food. Had the Sardines on toast, it didn't look much but looks are deceiving! Loved it! my partner had the vego b/fast, which was enjoyed. Big Tick for the local produce!
Delicious all round. Fantastic selection of house made cakes. Free range breakfast meats was a hugely pleasant surprise. Really well priced. Can't wait for The Tuck Shop to open so I can have this delicious food at home.
So so. Decent coffee but where were all the cakes? where is the artisan? service was fast so unlike other people have said. very drabby decor. nice people. poor cake selection. i was sorry i didn't go to the gourmet cafe nearby.
Great weekend lunch. I managed to tear myself away from Fancy Burger and lunch in a new (to me) spot in Blackwood, and glad I was about that too. Our food orders were pretty good - we chose from both the all-day breakfast and lunch menus. I've had better but there were no complaints about anything specific. The drinks available were a good selection of softies and juices and the lovely little tea-cosies for the pots were fabulous. It's the very friendly, slightly quirky vibe that will see me return for sure. Recommended, 7/10.
Great quality. Late breakfast of 1) Pancakes with citrus syrup – OMG so luxurious. The citrus syrup and lemon butter was the star – this made the dish. A pot of tea for one – you actually get three cups out of it so its very good value and excellent quality tea in a cool teapot cosy. 2) Also tried the Artisan Croque which was very tasty – and we LOVED the way they grill the cheese in a thin crispy layer on the plate (although delish, maybe this made the whole dish feel a little dry?)
We used to do the tapas at night but we had a few dud meals so we stopped going, must give night time tapas another try.
So delicious!! And the fact that they use fair trade and free range produce is even better!!
Consistently brilliant.... The 'sourcing locally' philosophy is great, the food and service is brilliant and this is hands down my favourite cafe. So much of the menu is fantastic - from the vegie stack , tapas through to the best soups to be had in in winter the soups. Brilliant range of teas in gorgeous tea settings (that keep the tea hot and funky knitted tea pot covers).
I go here regularly and have never had problems with tardy service or dud meals - it's a fantastic cafe!!!!!
First time Tapas. Tonight was our first visit for Tapas and they didn't let us down. Mushrooms and palenta dish was awesome and so too was the pork belly. We had only ever done breakfast before here, which by the way is the best in Blackwood and I am so glad we have found a new spot for dinner on a Fri/Sat night. Service is always amazing and I can't wait to return to try the other dishes on the menu.
Clearly this cafe is a fav' with locals. I had the chicken ceasar salad and although not cheap was worth every cent. In fact, I would go so far as to say the best I have tasted. We spent hours and a lot of money on perfecting the deconstructed chicken ceasar at our restaurant and Artisan trumped it by a long shot. Forget the out dated croutons. These culinary artisan's garnished their master piece with lightly baked pita 's. I love this place and I will return. Another one added to the favourites list! Thanks Artisan.
Had heard about this beautiful eatery from friends who said it got into the finalist awards for restaurant and catering. The artisan breakfast plate is first class. The finest breakfast ive enjoyed anywhere, and terrific value for money. Service here is warm and professional. The page about children in the menu is so respectfully written only the selfish could take offence. We look forward to having our group get
togethers here. A most civilised and wonderful place. 10/10
Always a pleasure, and child friendly. I'm disappointed to read other remarks about this cafe not being "child friendly". I have a very spirited toddler, and I'm aware that I need to keep her under control when I am at a cafe or restaurant. If I'm unable to keep my daughter on her chair or on my lap, then its time to leave. This is not Mcdonalds.
However, i do agree that the warning in the menu is affronting, they could do without it.
I've had breakfast and lunch here many times, often with my daughter, and have always had great coffee, really tasty, fresh, good quality food, and lovely service. Plus a lovely interior. Great that its close to home too!
I will be back again and again.

Delicious food, beautifully presented, lovely staff, quirky artworks and WARM!- what a great way to spend a freezing cold evening. Our 12 year old son says the chicken drumsticks are the best he's ever had!
A favourite Local. I have been to this cafe numerous times for breakfast now, both with friends and on my own. I have never been disappointed. The staff are very friendly and the menu is great. My favourite has to be the Earl Grey Tea and the tea post cosies, would love to know who knits them!
Best cafe in the southern suburbs! Me and my wife have been to the cafe for breakfast, lunch, and tonight, tapas for the first time! The meals had a great combination of flavours and were presented beautifuly! The waitresses were very friendly and proffesional. We would recomend this cafe to anyone who enjoys passionatly cooked food and a very welcoming environment! 10/10

Came for lunch, despite the fact it was very busy the food was served in good time. It was my parents first introduction to tapas which they thoroughly enjoyed. Selection wasn't particularly diverse but what they did do they did well. Recommend.
Agree with most reviewers the night time Tapas is the secret gem as a daytime cafe it is fine but not outstanding.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. We traveled from Melbourne for a holiday in Adelaide and went out each day for our meals, what I fantastic finding when we came across "The Artisan" Cafe in Blackwood.
There is only one thing better than excellent food and that's when Its served by very attentive staff. Pity we found it at the end of our stay or we would have visited there more often.
A taste experience that leaves you wanting more & well priced.

De-lish. What a great cafe. Try the tapas, their dinner menu. It just keeps coming, flavour upon delicate flavour. Delish. Unlike tappas I've had elsewhere, the Artisan makes tappas an entirely satisfying meal. Each dish is a little taste-bomb, with locally sourced ingredients that the kitchen team deliver to your table with perfectly synchronised timing, to keep your taste buds stimulated and your hunger satiated. It's yummmm.
HIDDEN GEM. Although we've lived in the area for years, we passed the lane down which The Artisan is located without really giving it a second look. What a mistake!
Now we've found it we're delighted with the excellent food and service. We occasionally drop in for coffee, and go there for breakfast every week. It's on the expensive side - particularly in Blackwood - but if you're prepared to pay, it's value-for-money.
It's large, and given it's deserved popularity, the cafe can get a little crowded particularly at the busy times - in the morning for example. So choose your time to go.
