Review Coopers Alehouse Gepps Cross - Blair Athol

We ate here 28th Feb 2022. We didn't have a booking and they were really busy, but still managed to get a table. The staff were really nice and helpful. It was a Monday night and the trivia was on. We missed registration and couldn't sit outside where the entertainment was, but were able to still participate in the fun watching the big screen and trying to hear the music clips through the glass doors while we waited for our meals and enjoyed a couple of drinks. The host seemed very engaging with every one, it was a great atmosphere of fun. Our meals took a little while, but that was okay considering how busy the place was. The flavours of the food was nice overall, we had the half chicken which had a real delicious marinade. I was really looking forward to trying my first angus beef schnitzel for something different, but was really disappointed with the toughness of the meat. I could barely cut the schnitzel with the knife, so chewing it wasn't enjoyable either. It was well and truly way overcooked. Everything else was good.

Several good beer options, we (a group of 8) had all different dishes, we all were satisfied. I ordered the Salmon Laksa out of curiosity as I wondered what that 'combo' is. It may sound a bit odd but was very tasty. The staff was nice, the place clean and inviting.

Sadly I didn't get any photos of the food but this place is incredible!! I will be going back!! Too many choices of beer to order, even more food options, we went for lunch in a large group after a funeral and I ordered the crispy chicken burger and WOW brioche bun was a nice touch, chicken WAS crispy on the outside and juicy and well cooked on the inside, bacon was nice and smokey, nice addition of the guac and swisse cheese, I loved it, it did not last long šŸ¤£ The Gepps X lager by coopers was nice and crisp and refreshing, friendly staff, just a great time, I think even better than pirate life which I gave a 5 stars also.

Great place to catch up with friends and have good drinks and food. Very spacious and comfortable. Lots of parking and awsome range of drinks to choose from.

Nice place. Sports bar atmosphere with big screen showing the Tennis and smaller screens with the cricket and basketball. The meals were fairly priced and very good quality for the money. My Salt and Pepper Squid was just so tender. Hmmmmm. The others had yummy schnitzel and a Seafood plate. Dessert was OMG! Lava cake with ice cream šŸØ. Yeah. Service was fast and efficient and such lovely smiles šŸ˜ We will be back for sure, this was just so good!

The spicy wings are divine. Just buy a massive pile of them and have that as an entire meal *chef kiss* The schnitzel was good, but the sauce.... oh Lord the garlic sauce. Everyone at the table kept stealing it from my plate. It's amazing. Serving sizes are huge and the drinks menu is good. Had a good laugh with the bar tenders and everyone was great. Absolutely will be going there again for dinner and drinks.

On the way home from cricket called in here for dinner had the fish and chips with salad. This fish was a good size and not over battered and good crunch the chips were good as well nice and crunchy . The salad was good nice and fresh with a wedge of lemon to squeeze over and the tarter sauce is good . The beer was nice and cold had the pale ale hmm very nice . The place is very clean the staff are very friendly and very helpful. Would go Back and I recommend it

Me and my partner sat in the beer garden, the environment and art was beautiful. Lovely music and decor! Plants art and fairy lights. We got the chicken skewers which came with rice, it was so moist and flavoured was not expecting it to have to much moisture and flavour. I personally got the salt and pepper squid that was amazing and my partner got the fish. All the food was plated lovely and designed with flavour. I wanted to order everything!

When you first opened you had some wow factor about your food it just seems now that the food is only average you have this big amazing smoker going on display yet I donā€™t see any options on your menu to choose anything from the smoker other than your platter for $75 there should be more meals like pork and beef ribs for one to enjoy at a reasonable price and also would be nice if you had better chips.
Michael Cooke
Not overly impressed really. No glass collection from tables, so they piled up. Hour and a half wait for my entree to come out at the same time as our very dry, over cooked smoked platter for two. The napkin was more moist than any of the meat on the platter. It was stone cold when it arrived Staff were not very friendly at all, except one bar person. maybe itā€™s not a nice place to work. Sadly a venue with all show and no go. Quite disappointed really, especially since Iā€™m such a big Coopers fan.

The atmosphere was great, the waiting time to get your meals was a bit of a let down, the side dish of mushrooms tasted burnt and could not taste the garlic at all and the pizza that i paid extra for to have vegan cheese (margarita) barely had any cheese on it. However the meal sizes were good and despite this I would go back again and try something else.

I would never eat here again! Stone cold chicken snitzel, stone cold Vienna sausage, stale bun on wagyu beef burger ( wouldn't even throw that one to the ducks, so stale I could barely bite it). Only good thing about getting cold food was my 3 year old could get stuck straight into it.

We had an amazing time for dinner tonight. Please pass on our thanks to your waitress Tilly. She was extremely attentive, always smiling, and nothing was too much bother for her. Fantastic customer service! Tilly even made my daughters night when she took the time to stop while busy to comment on her colouring. The food was superb! Can highly recommend the Parmy calzone, and the scotch fillet (cooked rare) just melted in the mouth. Well done. :-)

Was having tea at Coppers Ale house last night. Had a bit of an indifferent experience with the meals. I had the Brisket. It was a very fatty piece of meat. It was cooked well but had little to know flavour an bland. My wife had trio of seafood. After having a taste of her meal. I think I should have had that. The fish was moist an delicious. The dessert being the Creme Brielle was done well. The service was a bit lack luster an a little rude when getting my drinks. Can only say it was poor to satisfactory.

Food is amazing, atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are absolutely incredible!!! Would definitely highly recommend going there for a meal, a catch up with friends and family or even just a night out! Every time we go there it never disappoints, thanks Siobhan and team, you guys are awesome!!!!

Booked an early dinner sitting and still had to wait a long time for meals. Not only that but at least 10mins between when the first few meals and the rest came out. Had the surf and turf sauce which came on the side and wasn't even enough to cover the schnitzel id ordered. Not near enough for the expensive added cost. Waygu burger was dry and a few other meals didn't have much flavour. Disappointing

I've always had good experiences dining at the Coopers Alehouse in Gepps Cross, I think the menu is extensive & quite modern. They have fantastic beers on tap plus a nice selection of wines to try. The meals are reasonably priced too for generous portions, staff are friendly & helpful when recommending new options on the special board. Overall atmosphere is relaxed casual, nice bars with seating areas both indoors & outdoors which is great in any weather.
John Sicuro
Great meal and fast service. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The buzz in the beer garden was fantastic and the lights were amazing. Definitely go back again. Thanks Siobhan Nic and Kelly!!

One of the best breakfasts ive had in sometime $19 for their big breakfast i almost couldnt finish it there was so much . .but i did yummo and the way the bistro is decked out is awesome , the fireplace in the centre creates a great atmosphere and you look onto the the massive beer garden with the cinema size tv!

I had the Hanns Solo burger. When i picked it up, what looked like water was dripping from the bottom (fair amount) not sure if the stack of lettuce they put there was washed right before it went on the bun, also had very little flavour. My friends rare steak was medium rare. From reading the below comments, maybe the kitchen staff might need a change

It has a nice feel-good ambiance for a suburban pub, comparable to whatā€™s in the city area. However, getting our food after 1.5 hours from ordering it wasnā€™t acceptable - please do change this process. Food was okay but not spectacular - can still be improved.

Arrived at this venue on Anzac day around 3pm only to find empty glasses and plates on every table. I went up to bar to order drinks and had to wait 20 min to be served. I asked the barman why they are short staffed, he advised that they only rostered one person on. I ordered a pizza for lunch, it was that bad i wouldnt even feed it to my dog.. soggy! You will never see me at place again!

Atmosphere great, service great, wait for food terrible over an hour wait...food average!

I have eaten a few times and found food and service good.

I have read some of the comments and most were negative.Well my experiences have been positive. I visited yesterday for the Brewery tour and lunch event. From the minute we walked in to the small bar by the pokie machines we were welcomed by a lovely young lady.We were then introduced to Jono who was our bus driver and guide at the hotel. He was excellent very friendly and made us welcome and looked after us when we returned for the lunch. The brewery tour was also excellent and Simon our guide was great. It was a really good tour and tasting time. The lunch back at the hotel was a smoker platter. We have had this before and is always good along with a tasting plank. I cannot reccomend this more to anyone. It was a great day out and I have told all my work mates about it.It is a good present for someone who loves beer. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly.Thamks for a great day! ļæ½

Waited for lunch that shouldn't have taken too long. Friends that ordered at the same time had eaten and gone 10 minutes before ours arrived. Chips on schnitzel were rock hard. Won't rush back. If i hadn't asked about our order we would have still been awaiting.

Donā€™t bother unfortunately the service staff are amazing the upstart supervisor Dwayne is a rude and arrogant /& .. will find another pub to spend our fortnightly money at to watch the footy

I have enjoyed my self could do better with the menu more veryety ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½

Went to Coopers Alehouse Gepps Cross last night and it was fantastic. First time for me and my small family and I'm glad I booked online prior to going. The atmosphere and food was amazing. Busy Friday night as expected but the staff was amazing. Not a huge fan of pubs but will be going back to this one and bringing family and friends next time. Thanks to Kelly, Rita and Elaine for accomodating last night. Happy to come back. šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

Took too long to serve food. Not enough toilets for such large amounts of people they cater to

Had dinner Saturday night, it was OK and OK to me is average. Nacho topping was just luke warm and waited a while for meals. Side mushrooms were tasty. Not sure if I'd go there again, if I did I'd just get Mushrooms
Amanda Davey
Found staff to be rude and dismissive and wait time for food was 45 min
Mathew Hnoudis
Had the Yoder smoker platter today. The beef ribs and pork ribs tasted amazing - melt in your mouth. Pulled pork was done to perfection and the kransky was a nice addition. The coleslaw was poor and let down the meat but given the size of the serving, the coleslaw was not needed!
Ilias Mavromatis
Seriously the venue is very nice only thing missing is the quality not bad but definitely not good enough. Had the salt and pepper squid and just not worth the $22 price make better at home.

The menu has a large selection perfect pub food but needs a change itā€™s approach. Get that right it will be perfect for a main venue to meet in the area

Honestly I'd like to thanks the manager for correcting the situation tonight. We waited for a good 50 mins or over for our food and I've never waited 50 mins or more for our food because I like to think that I'm a paying customer. She handle the situation really well and was apologetic why the food was taking so long, because there were a delay printing order to the kitchen. Thank you to the manager for handling my hangry stage really well.

Once again I'd like to say thank you to her.
Chris Escalera
Average food. There was a mouse under my table and started walking around the restaurant, not many people noticed it but it was walking around their feet. The manager came and told us that they tried to get ride of pests but unfortunately this things happen sometimes and there wasnā€™t much that they can do about it... After this, I donā€™t trust their kitchen.

We love the place but on this day it wasnā€™t up to par. We went last Saturday and by the time we got there the eating area was practically empty. We waited at the ā€œwait to be seated ā€œ sign at least 5minutes while two staff chatted. One looked at us and kept chatting. It may have been about work stuff but still not acceptable. We ordered the $75 share platter. Although we have eaten here many times and enjoyed it mostly this share platter was not worth $75. The meats were all dry and badly needed a sauce . The ribs were marinated and not too bad but everything else was terribly dry. It did come with aioli and pesto but that doesnā€™t help at all. Would not recommend this dish at all until they add some moisture prat the very least a good sticky barbecue sauce. Although this time we didnā€™t order desserts we know from past experiences their desserts are awesome.

One of the worst meal experiences I have had I a long time.
Very average food when you get it.
If you don't order wedges the it will take along time to get your meal.
Midday Saturday and the food took almost an hour to get.
NOT WORTH THE WAIT
Scrumptious Eats
We were very disappointed with our experience. The service was poor. My steak was ordered medium rare and was over cooked. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It was fine, not much flavour in the pork.
Fit & Fed Foodie
Iā€™ve always had a good experience here. Good service. Food quality is consistent. A couple times itā€™s been super slow and the fries not fresh, but they replace them right away if you tell them. Steaks been great and ofcourse the snittyā€™s, chicken or beef, canā€™t go wrong. Wish they would give you more salad though, but thatā€™s just me. Surprisingly coffees good here, which I was happy about.

Love the atmosphere and the dĆ©cor and really friendly staff which is great. Obviously an excellent selection of Coopers (and other) beers. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to the rest of the experience. We may have beenĀ one of the last orders of the night but what came out was really disappointing. First of all it came outĀ almost too quickly soĀ I suspected some pre-cooking. This appeared in the "Darf Vader" burgerĀ - the bun was extremely dry (it fell apart), as was the meat patty. Not even the, I think, three sauces that were on the burger could combat the dryness. The chipsĀ were the positive of this meal. TheĀ beef schnitzel was more ofĀ a steak schnitzel which would normally get a big thumbs up however, it too was overcooked.

First time after hearing so much. What a renovation! Went on a hot day ,so the beer garden was muggy, but ate in a cool dining room. Beer was cold, food was good. The only criticism was some items on the menu were pricy, but a good spread of selection.
Krystal
Chicken skewers were dry with not much flavour, the wings were good though and really spicy which I enjoyed. Good beers/cider and service considering it was a busy and loud Friday night

Visited on a hot Sunday afternoon, decided to sit outside. They have a lovely outdoor area. We have a look at the menu and order the seafood trio and the beef schnitzel. When we ordered they asked if we would like garlic bread, we were happy to pay for it, but it was actually for free. It was a nice touch! Also ordered a couple pints of cider. The garlic bread came straight away, a big full on pizza size with cheese on top. Was great could have used more garlic. The meals arrived about 10 minutes later. The schnitzel and Diane sauce hit the spot. The seafood trio was really nice but it was all deep fried. Would have been nice if the prawns were grilled. The chips were average. But it was nice. The service was great, everyone was very friendly! Will return :)
Casual SA Diner
Went to check out a relatively new, clean venue.
Obviously thereā€™s no eye for detail at Gepps X.
Unfinished putty on the ceiling of the booths.
Sticky unclean tables with obvious drink spills. Table not cleared, just most of the crockery and half finished drinks moved to an empty table nearby. Then another staff member cleans a table next to it and never checks the others.
After 2 rounds of drinks, the same dirty glassware with slices of drying citrus still waiting on the bar to be removed.
Dirty laptop covered with post-it notes meets people at reception.
Filthy upside down garbage bin covering a power reel in the garden right next to the sticky table.
Fans running on a cold day, no heat on.
Main special steak n/a before lunch service had barely started.
The fancy taps behind the bar might have been a good idea at the time, but now the fonts are unused and the outlets stuffed with screwed up paper and plastic; presumably to stop the vinegar flies.

Efficient smiling proactive staff could have saved this mediocre venue. That and a manager who went to spec-savers.

Pros: the pork ribs are good. The slaw/dish needed acid. You canā€™t have just smoke, fat and sweetness, but the actual ribs are pretty good. Slightly expensive, but good. Great sweet glaze. Soft but not falling apart. Nice smoke.
The chips, so so. Beef rib sandwich fairly ordinary.

I like the smoker in the beer garden but disconnecting the chimney pipe is a bit rough when you canā€™t smoke a ciggy out there, but can flood the place with wood smoke... and looks sloppy.

Details!!

(No decent hoppy beers)

This place might look good and loads of money spent on decor.... however donā€™t bother if you are hungry. The smallest schnitzel Iā€™ve been served at a pub. Quality of food average just like their beers! The most disappointing aspect.... poor customer service.

What a fantastic place! I love how well they have renovated the old Gepps Cross Hotel! Everything from the beer garden to indoors looks awesome! Our food came out quite quickly despite it being very busy night, they were well portioned and very yummy!! And I have to mention that all the staff are very friendly and polite! 10/10, cant wait to come back!

such a lovely vibe and the renovation has turned it into such a friendly and fun atmosphere to catch up with friends!
the bar staff were cute which was an extra šŸ˜

By far the best ribs I've ever had in Adelaide. Service was great and the staff were amazing. The atmosphere outside is great. Would recommend to anyone.

Great atmosphere with the new look gepps cross. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely beer garden with live music on a sunday night. Extensive menu and of course great beers!! Fairly busy kids got their food 10mins before the adults and with entertainment card voucher (25% disc) Ā it was good value!
Lover All Things Yummy
The wait to order was ridiculous- 1 till open for food orders with a line up out the door!!! Order was quickly delivered to our table only to be left confused with what was placed in front of me...the food overall left little to be desired šŸ˜¢

Great atmosphere in the beer garden with stress free dining. Good service and the food was fantastic.
The Pulled pork nachos and pulled pork sandwich were delicious!

I wasn't as upset as a previous reviewer here ("grazing board of $#!T") but I did leave feeling that they spent more time thinking about the look and and feel of their pub than they did about the taste of their food. Our grazing board did that very pub thing of conflating quantity with quality. There was a lot of food but most of it was average at best. And confused...so very confused. There was tzatziki, but no flat bread. Undercooked (corn?) bread that had been burnt. Calamari of suspect origin (artificial or just badly cooked?). Desiccated fried chicken wings placed upon a pool of mayonnaise (or was it roux?). The list goes on...The only thing we could bring ourselves to finish were the pickles which probably came out of a jar. Our roasted vegetable salad was passable but incredibly oily. Probably best to only get drinks here.

Iā€™ve driven past the former Gepps Cross Hotel on many occasions on my way to Mawson Lakes, but little did I know that it had become the new Coopers Alehouse. The site is huge and there are car parks as far as the eye can see. The inside is just as impressive with a massive beer garden, spacious dining area and separate gaming section. The renovations have been meticulous, and the space is sleek, modern and impressive. Their menu is modern Australian with the classic pub grub. There are starters, house made pizzas, salads and your typical pub favourites.

Grazing board of shit.... With not crispy reheated chicken wings and not Turkish bread it was worse than the 15 minute wait in line and then the 45 minute wait for food. I dont understand how it took 45 minutes ? Like the microwave should have heated it up in like 40 seconds .... Shit meal on my birthday. We can only hope that building is burnt down and a better restraunt is build on its place.

The girlfriend and I lobbed at the Ale House Saturday night without a booking and were luckily seated in the stool section in the dining room which suited us perfectly. It was a very busy night and a few birthday celebrations were in at the time. The Ale House has a great out door beer garden with a huge TV screen and gas heaters which make it perfect for the footy punters. Its very busy the night we went but they were well staffed and took no time to take our orders or get a drink from the bar. Of course there is a wide range of Coopers beers on tap for a great price of $5 a pint or the usual selection of local wines. This night we ordered the garlic bread, chicken schnitzel with dianne sauce and I had the margarita pizza, the garlic bread was generous and came out quickly, the mains took some time to come out largely due to the amount of other diners, this didn't bother us as we just got another pint. The Schnitzel was as you expect in an Adelaide pub, large, tender and had a nice crunchy crumb, the margarita pizza base was a little too thick for me and needed a little longer in the oven for it to crisp up nicely. Its seemed to have a large splash of garlic on it which also made it bitter.Ā
If you are looking for a quick mid week meal or a cheap pint the Ale house would be a great starting point.
Poppie
Poppy has been to Gepps Cross Coopers Ale House twice now. The first time was a bit of a shambles. Poppy had to wait an extremely long time for his Salt & Pepper Squid main which when it eventually did come out was entree' sized. Poppy was quite disappointed. The 2nd visit Poppy ordered the Chicken Parmie which obviously comes with chips and salad. The sauce on the chicken was average at best, the chicken schnitzel was also a let down. I say it more and more these days, "It's harder to find a good pub that does a good parmie than to find a pub that does a bad parmie." The brand new renovation/fitout is contemporary and try hard hipster. Thumb down, will most likely never step foot through the door again in my lifetime.

Last Sunday we decided to check out the Virginia Nursery because Iā€™m all about those indoor plants and weā€™re officially OAF. Due to the fact that a road trip just isnā€™t a road trip without a food stop, we decided to take a little squiz at the newish Coopers Alehouse in Gepps Cross.
