Review The Kingfisher Cafe - Blueys Beach

You can see what the owners are going for here: beach vibe with quality food. Unfortunately neither the vibe or the food live up to the expectations set by the very expensive prices. There is no view and the furnishings are cheap. The ambience is reminiscent of a cafe in a retirement home. The food is also a bit hit and miss. The steak was good, as was the lamb, but the rest was pretty forgettable. The service was also very slow; I'm not sure if having one wait person and one person in the kitchen on a Saturday night is brave or stupid.

These guys make great food. Dave and Caroline who run the place are really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. All their food is delicious and well thought out. These guys catered our wedding and did an amazing job and went the extra mile in every scenario. We really appreciate what they are doing.

Been twice, will definitely go back. Food was well presented & very tasty. Prices at med. to high , but worth it. Service a bit slow due to the amount of customers, but didn't mind waiting as the food is really nice. This recommend is coming from a chef of some years experience, so I am probably being a bit picky.

Bad food and indescribably terrible service! We arrived at our table (wife, toddler and I) and were rushed to place our food orders. We went to the bar 10 minutes later to place a drink order. Our toddler’s meal came out before our drinks arrived so we made another trip to the bar to check if they were coming. My drink came out but the waitress needed another reminder for my wife’s drink. No urgency on her behalf though as she had time to sip her wine before actually bringing out my wife’s drink. We then saw her adjusting her top while taking another tables food order! (We found it all a bit amusing at this point). Our son had finished his meal so we were taking turns playing with him outside as, understandably, he was becoming restless. Our food arrived approximately 40 minutes after our son’s food had arrived, with no explanation as to the delay. My wife ordered the veggie curry which was lukewarm and a very small portion. For $28 you would expect some naan, roti or pappadum as an accompaniment but it was just served with about half a cup of rice. She left hungry. I ordered the drunken chicken which the waitress described as “Malaysian comfort food”. What I was served was half a chicken breast, sliced, in a bland watery soup with a slight hint of soy sauce flavour. It was $30. I took one bite and left the rest. When I complained about my meal the waitress gave the absolute worst response of “you’re the first person to say that”. Immediately disregarding my complaint. She proceeded to charge us the full price and wished us a “wonderful rest of our stay”, clearly in jest. The pizza from Huey’s at Blueys on the way home was excellent, highly recommended. I rarely feel obliged to leave a review, but I strongly do not recommend this restaurant.

Friendly owners did not make up for food. Childrens meals were satisfactory n i take it enjoyable as most was eaten. We ordered char grilled Manning River Sirloin with mash, n beans wrapped in Prochutto, whilst acceptable was a bit of the same same, I ordered the Rosemary mustard smoked lamp rump with caramelised sweet potato. Asked for medium rare, expected medium rare n got well done n char grilled vegetables were very chargrilled n over caramelised, not pleasant to eat at all, vegetables difficult to even cut. Lamb very tough n unappealing n very disappointing, left most of meal. Owners apologised for overcooked meal n asked if they coukd get me something else, i refused as was a bit over the meal by now n children were getting tired. Got billed the $32 for the lamb eventhough they apologised for overcooking meal n admitted they had got it wrong, funny, thought i should have not been charged for a meal they screwed up. Owner even apologised for writing no red instead of medium rare on order. Would not recommend this Restaurant. We were really looking forward to this meal n ended up leaving very disappointed.

Lovely delicious food with large servings, friendly staff and pleasant setting. Only very small things meant I didn't give it 5 stars eg we asked for the paella to have no chilli so my son could eat it but they forgot to do this. No dramas though.

Quiet possibly the best meal iv ever had. Staff were extremely nice and helpful. Beautiful setting just watch the kookaburra doesn't decide to try your steak its that good.

This is the hidden culinary destination of blueys beach! If you're a real foodie you will love this place. Fresh local produce and the most friendly owner operator you'll come across. Can't finish without mentioning one of the most amazing burgers we have had, the soft damper bun beef burger & the delicious local whiting with fresh mango salsa, whilst we enjoyed a cider and pimms in the sun by the tennis courts.
