Review North Bondi Fish - Bondi

Jack Smith
A beautiful restaurant where the view is part of the beauty. Be sure to dive into their cocktail menu while you're here! Food portions are good size and very tasty. Had a set menu, but have come back since for the fish tacos which were great. But all food was delicious. Fish curry is a winner!

Just wanted a nice spot for some oysters on a Sunday afternoon, what an incredible spot and great vibe, had a live DJ and singer and was able to get a seat. Service for your first order taking is excellent and great but once you've made one order (food + 1 drink) it's hard to get their attention again. But the oysters and vinaigrette were great and atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon on one of the best beaches in Sydney, can't beat it

Amazing location, a great view of the beach and the decor inside is really nice. The food was okay overall. The snacks were all tasty with good portion sizes to share amongst three people, definitely order a few of the snack options. The tiger prawns and the mahi mahi were a bit of a let down, especially considering the price of those dishes - definitely expected more flavour here and for the fish to not be slightly over cooked. Service was great, will be back to try the rest of the snack options!

Great dining experience, food was awesome, especially all things seafood. Sushmi and oysters were very fresh. Do yourself a favour and get the fish tacos, bloody amazing. Service was friendly and efficient and it wasn't crazy expensive... Will definitely be going back.

Awesome seafood restaurant. Whilst a bit exxy it was all quite worth it. Food portions are good size and very tasty. Had the Tacos, fish and chips and octopus. Although oysters were a stand out! Didn't enjoy the watermelon dessert however.

A local favorite that we have been to countless times. Would always recommend this venue, great food, amazing location and always a good cocktail menu.

Come here for holiday trip with my friends, and found this place near bondi beach, the ambiance of this place beautiful. And for the food: we order octopus salad which is lit the octopus is perfectly cook and goes well with the sauce, fish curry also so fresh incredible tasty and i can taste the freshness of the fish and the curry is so fragrant, the grilled zucchini also fresh, overall the food is incredibly awesome. The Service also very nice, the waitress and waiters seem like they’re well training 👍🏻 Keep on the good work team. 👍🏻😊 if we visit Sydney again we will definitely back to this restaurant

Views, amazing service and great food: NBF has it all. We can’t recommend this venue enough. We will be back. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We were seated without reservations which was great however we had to hassle the staff to order drinks and the same to order food! Our starters came quite quickly and were gorgeous however we then waited an hour and ten mins for our main course to come and that only arrived when the waitress asked if we wanted the dessert menus!!!she was embarrassed when she realised how long it had been !when the food did come it was worth the wait and massive portions!had someone just said sorry to keep you waiting I would have been fine but it was overall really poor service and understaffed with an annoying red flashing light every 5 mins !
Sam Keogh
Was there for a hens party and we had a set menu that was share style. The seafood and salads were superb, plenty of food to go around for the 20 of us that were there and the drinks were always flowing. The customer service was brilliant, we weren't having to wait long periods for food or drinks and they were always happy to help. My only problem was the long table we were at wasn't wide enough to cater for a shared style meal as there wasn't enough room for our plates, the platters and drinks.

Been twice now. Superb food, great location especially on a sunny day and the service was excellent (catered for our family of 9 inclusive of 1 picky/fussy grandmother). If you're after fine dining go to icebergs, but if you're after large portions of great food, friendly service and value for money I recommend this place.

Great recommendations from the staff and delicious food! Cuttlefish w/ squid ink risotto is to die for!
Mike Saad
Food was amazing. Had prawns, white fish, sushimi, steak, chips, and Little Creatures pale ale. Service was lovely. The view was stunning. Loved this place and highly recommend.

The food was incredible but the service was really inappropriate. We went for an early seating, 6p which finishes at 8p. Felt short but OK. However our waitress kept interrupting our conversation to harass us about being finished by 8p. She told us we could order dessert if we did it in 2 mins - so we declined. She obviously hurried us through the earlier dishes to get dessert in. She then stood with the card machine at 7.42p demanding that we pay. We told her to leave us alone to try to enjoy the experience. We clearly understood that we had until 8p so stop hassling us. We had until 8 but it was a hassled, harassed experience that just wasn’t worth it. We should be able to enjoy our food and each other but our waitress couldn’t leave us to do so which ruined our night.

We didn't have a reservation however the great staff managed to find us a couple of stools with a great view. Had an amazing night, the food is exceptional.

I've been waiting a long to go there. The food is amazing!!! So loved the fish curry to die for. We were very luck to be seated in the front section for a busy Easter Friday. Very thankful. Will be back❤️❤️❤️

I found food was great and the staff very polite and helpfull when taken our meal orders drinks would highly recomend nbf to my friends will be back

The view 5 star. The food was delicious and the portions right for the set menu another 5 stars. But we were squashed onto a group table that was too small for comfortable eating or placemnt of plates. And let's not even talk about how hot it was inside the building. Melting. Ruined the pleasure of the food and the view

Great location, friendly and efficient staff. Probably the best Fish and Chips I have ever had. Always helps when the sun is out and the beach and sea are crowded. Not for me but lovely to see people having fun. If in doubt book a table and go.
Tonia Ivanni
Sadly the poor attitude of the staff completely overshadow this restaurants good location and good food reviews. It's aggressive and rude and with all the bad reviews I really don't understand why the owners don't do anything to fix this problem.
J.j. Lasne
Lovely place with happy/pretty people. Very busy, crowded and airy with a view of Bondi Beach. Fish was very fresh and served perfectly albeit quite expensive. Service was fast, friendly, efficient and knowledganle. Definitely a recommendation if it is in your budget.

Thankyou Sam and team for making my friends hens lunch amazing! Everything was on point and the staff were delightful! Thankyou for having us! X

Such a shame, I was looking forward to trying this place. Seated at late notice, great. Not told about different menus, and took (at least) ten minutes before we could even ask about service. Charming waitress but we had to ask for cutlery (!) before reminding her about a forgotten drinks order and asking for (any) water. Explaining the menu was also pretty tricky for her, a fairly average experience. Food (bar menu) was OK, cocktail was good.
Daniel Ariyani
Food was good, but service was poor! The french waiter didn't understand the order and brought the wrong items to the table and when they were confronted he stood there and argued with a friend of mine that she had ordered tea and lemonade instead of a cocktail, then comes to paying the bill and the lady at the counter was very rude and said "why are we standing there looking at her" i felt like telling her we're waiting for her to do her job and look up and interact with us! I picked up the bill for 6 people as I felt asking them to split the bill was too much to ask! Don't go here people instead try Ash Street Cellar in the city, they had amazing food, service and staff.
Jessica Pinij
Very disappointed with the customer service. Mussels were good. The barramundi was very nice. However, the salmon needed more seasoning. The cucumber next to the salmon was also quite bland. Customer service wise was not up to par. I understand that staff are busy but we felt neglected and no one bothered to take our order even though we have asked a couple of times. A very unprofessional waitress shrugged her shoulders when she was supposed to apologise for being unclear with an order and gave us a very irresponsible gaze. Very disappointing. Planned to come to this restaurant for a good time but received poor customer service. Needs work.
Scarlett Grose
Very average service - staff handling our chopsticks and then dropping them on the table, forgetting the bill it was requested and more. Food - average, certainly not up to the standards I’d been told about. Don’t get the fish taco, it’s bland but would recommend the pasta in the bag, that was yum
Bottomlesspit
I have to say I was a little underwhelmed with North Bondi Fish. Of course the location is amazing. The cocktails were beautiful and the staff really friendly, but the food was a slight let down. Chips and zucchini flowers were delicious. The tacos were a large serving size, but I think maybe too much fish and not enough flavour. I felt a bit the same with the crab sliders. Lacked a bit of love. I would go back for drinks.
Looks And Cooks
Ok this place is a bit pricey BUT there are reasons why. Amazing service, top knot food. You want to get everything seafood here! It’s on the water and the view is unbeatable. Chilli margaritas, yes! Vegetarian risotto, yes yes!

Group of four dined on Sunday night ordered king fish ceviche, tuna tare tare, fish taco, mussels and fish head. Ceviche was nice slightly creamy served on coconut which was a nice touch. Betal leaf went well with tuna sashimi salad. I can't say i liked tuna taco tho; serving size was generous but it was very boring - it felt like it had too much batter and not enough flavours. I loved mussel dish it was delightfully fragrant and green curry base was delectable. Potion size was generous enough to share. Ordered 2 bottles of white wines recommended by a waiter they were pretty great too. All in all great dinner nice service and price is reasonable.

This was a very disappointing restaurant. We had ordered six dishes and it was awkwardly staggered over 1.5 hours. Our lunch started at 2.30 and we were told the kitchen was too busy. Our first dish that came out was a pasta and then between six of us it was an awkward split. The fries took one hour and 15 minutes to be served it was ridiculous for the price we paid. Overall everyone was unsatisfied and the waiters were not helpful at all

Visited here for the first time on a Sunday night for dinner. Overall, it was disappointing experience. To start the night, we ordered the tuna tataki, soft shell crab slider for entree. Pleasant, but nothing amazing. And here is where the problem started... We waited at least 45 minutes after we had finished our starters for our mains. This is a long time. It was not a particularly busy night with only a few other tables dining who had arrived after us. A few of us on the table ordered the glacier 51 toothfish with a chosen complement of lemon & aioli/red wine jus & mash potato. When the mains finally arrived, to my despair, my fillet of fish was significantly smaller than the others despite ordering the same dish. The fish was still nice. The crab pasta on the menu was also tasty and had a mean portion. To follow, we ordered a few desserts which were pleasant as well. Overall, poor service and average food places it below the bar of wanting to return. Though I imagine, this place would have a very nice view of the beach to add to the experience during the day.

Delicious fresh seafood cooked to perfection and amazing cocktails to follow. Perfect location for a weekend lunch or dinner with Bondi Beach in the background! Definitely on the pricier side but still a great spot, perfect for date nights!

A lunch date with my wife. We were seated on a table along the wall with sweet views to the ocean. Service was polite and we ordered fish curry and a grilled fillet of mulloway in teriyaki sauce we also had a side of hot chips. After a glass of riesling our food was laid out. Looked good and tasted fine. Fish curry was yum, mulloway was a nice dish and well executed. The hot chips are good. Service was fine, decor was comfortable and we felt at ease while here. Sharing the fruit meringue for dessert was a good way to finish.

Our experience leaving the restaurant was sadly not at all good, and a lot worse than it needed to have been. This is an expensive restaurant. Family of 4, 2 courses only, with relatively few alcoholic drinks, the bill came to 250 Austral dollars. No problem with that. The food was absolutely fine, perhaps a little over-priced, but in a gorgeous location overlooking Bondi Beach. We ordered wine to accompany our meal, but it didn't arrive until we had finished our meal. Unacceptable anywhere, but especially paying those prices, right? The waitress was having none of it, saying that it was a busy day. I said "sorry but that cannot be used as an excuse". She rebutted it, I got nowhere. All I wanted was a genuine apology and a taking of responsibility. Got none of that, and a rude and aggressive response to boot. Discussed with the manager afterwards in the nicest possible way, but fairly anodyne response there too. Either she's a rotten apple and not being managed properly (it can't be the first time), or else the culture of the place is complacent ("we have the perfect location, no major competition, we can charge what we like, who cares if one or two customers aren't happy?"). Could have been great, but instead left with a bad taste in the mouth. Any restaurant aspiring to the highest standards would hold this kind of behaviour to account in a serious way, surely?

First time to Bondi and the scenery definitely does not disappoint! We thought we would start down the north end first and work our way back. We were starving at this point and stumbled across North Bondi Fish n figured why not give it a go. We got a table pretty quickly and ordered. We got the fish tacos, soft shell crab slider, chips and tuna tataki. Everything was delicious and so fresh! It totally hit the spot! Only thing was it was a tad pricey for what we ordered. Place was great though. Staff were friendly and food was great!

I wanted to take some friends from Texas, USA to a restaurant overlooking Bondi Beach that was upscale yet laid-back (not too formal) and reasonably priced;  North Bondi Fish (NBF) seemed like the type place I was looking for. I checked out many images for NBF on Google images and it looked great and the menu seemed OK as did the drinks list. I was slightly put-off by some recent negative reviews I read but I went ahead a made a reservation for lunch. After a pre-lunch drink at Iceberg's, I walked with my friends along the beach promenade to NBF and I'm very happy to say that my friends and I weren't disappointed; the view of the beach from the restaurant was beautiful, the service was perfect, the food was delicious and eight share plates of dishes made with scallops, tuna, kingfish (ceviche) and sydney rock oysters between the 3 of us with a few beers and a bottle of good wine cost us about $300; the whole experience was worth every dollar we spent. My friends came away raving about it and I'm very grateful for the great impression NBF left on both myself and my overseas guests.

Mixed reviews, it seems, but I enjoyed everything but the price. Tasty oysters, soft shell crab slider and prawns, all came out great but anything under $40 will be snack size. The interior is very nice and we got the long table looking directly out to the beach.
Kate
Lovely view - very expensive, mediocre food. Grab the view for free 20 feet away and go to Bondi's best seafood for a real taste of the sea.

Was always skeptical about this place but it seriously delivered the goods. Had the banquet with the snapper, steak, muscles and sashimi. All were ridic<br/>Actually couldn't fault anything... surprised myself

So disappointed. Reminder about having to leave by 8:30pm came as a text message so made sure we were on time at 6:30pm - but they were not. An hour later and we were getting our entrés- but only 3 and we were 4. We managed to finish the 3 before anyone came near and then only to ask how we liked our meals. The fourth entré came as an entremet and at 8:10 we were still waiting for our mains - fortunately they arrived together! Food was good but the weak coffees put the nail in it. At roughly $85p.p - entrés, mains and a couple of glasses of wine it really was not good enough. It has been a long time since I have felt badly enough to write.

Crudo was tasty but that was the only good thing about this restaurant. Staff need training in basic hospitality. Take my advice you can do better elsewhere.

Went there for lunch, had a table booked, the place was half full. The manager has a degree in how to be condescending and how to provide really bad customer service. We wanted to sit outside, but we were only offered a bar menu. The reason for this was that apparently the wind would blow away the micro herbs, however they had other tables booked in the outside area offering the full menu! Pathetic! The staff were newcomers to the industry, although friendly but clueless- e.g. Entrees and mains were served at the same time! Food was hit and miss. All up not a very good experience.

The location is amazing !!!! The Staff are really nice but the food no no .!!!!<br/>Had a few things and lack of freshness stood out nothing seemed fresh like herbs and cabbage seemed old and wilted. <br/>All the dishes we tried were bland missing salt or acid like lemon or vinigar over all the food missed the mark big time except the salmon was nice but cut quite thick that was a turn off. <br/>The kingfish was a tiny serve and at $24 abs bland no impressed at all tacos boring crab slider rubbish <br/>Over food was below average I would only return for a drink ! <br/>The presentation was nice but the flavour was lacking
Jeremy
The fish was overcooked. Staff were rude.<br/>The million dollar view is clearly the only thing of value in this venue now. Shame. Truly embarrassing bringing clients here now.

Tucked at the top of Bondi Beach, this fancy beach shack has a great buzz and serves some of the best looking seafood around. Try and jag a table out on the deck (sun permitting) where you have full view of the beach and people swimming in August. My Melburnian mind is blown.

Location was great +++! For the price, food was nothing special, basically glorified fish and chips with a $35+ price tag, then you have to get sides on top. Service was slow and inconsistent also. It was a nice evening but not worth the $$$ for the fish'n'chip shop quality food!!
Ella Regan-Lacey
Good food, nice atmosphere but slow service. We waited a while to be served, they forgot our entre but all in all food was delicious and the atmosphere was great.
Kate Dougherty
Cool atmosphere with great views. The mini crab sliders were nice but not amazing and they do a great aperol spritz. Good for a casual bite to eat in the nice weather.
Emma Maddison
Perfect location and the staff were nice but that's where the positives about this place ends!! Terrible food and over priced for what you get!! The only thing that was ok was the steak and chips and it's a seafood restaurant!!!Sashimi wasn't fresh and the rest of the seafood tasted terrible. <br/>

When you dream about holiday, cocktails, beach and the perfect spot to chill close to the sea, I bet once in your life, at least, you tought about a place that looks exactly like this, I did for sure and everytime I come here with my boyfriend and friends we have such a great time. Still wanna come for a proper dinner maybe over winter and certainly will do.<br/><br/>Dinner update: we finally made it, we had dinner in North Bondi Fish! The menu is not that pricy considering the location and dishes were ok. I personally didn't like the octopus because taste little smoky to me but that's me, my boyfriend liked it. The 1kg mussels was very nice, as italians we do love to cook "pepata di cozze" and we thought that this was an intresting variation. Prawns were ok maybe less burned would have been perfect and broccolini were lovey! I would consider it a very nice experience if I didn't have such an high set of expectations coming here, I found the service an up and down of distraction and too much attention, something wasn't flowing. Little corrections would make this place a real pearl in bondi.

Over priced and no tasty <br/>I went there for lunch<br/>Order lobster roll <br/>No flavor only can tasty lot of mayo<br/>Even with chip so cold..<br/>View is fantastic.<br/>

Trendy beachside eatery in North Bondi looking over Bondi Beach. The interiors, friendly staff, great looking drinks menu and the food menu which all about the seafood - will have you happily sitting on the deck all afternoon. We ordered Charcoal Roasted Prawns, Fish Tacos, Baby Octopus and kingfish ceviche. Then for desert passion fruit and mango sundae which is basically Summer in a cup and a few popsicles - the espresso martini is everything.

I really like this place, food was fantastic, location is brilliant only down side is that the background music is just way to loud.<br/><br/>Pricing on the food is a little steep also for what you get which is a shame, but overall is probably still return<br/><br/>If it wasn't for the loud over bearing music I probably would've scored it a 4

We took the taco's it was very good. And the chips were perfect. After then we took the whole snapper ! The fish was very good even though i had to prepare it by my self.. So i was a bit desapointed and nothing came with it .

Such a nice view and vibe for a date night or for celebrations. Loved their seafood although the portion was small. Make sure you book a table, as they are quite full, especially on weekends. It was a great experience!

I've had some great days and some great nights here. I've also had some great day nights here. Amazing place for drinks and bar food. The dinning experience is not as good as it was when it opened. The atmosphere and location are the highlights of this venue. Try the snow crab sliders and the fish tacos. Expect to pay big, but who cares when your looking at that view...

I came here on Saturday night for my partner's birthday and was left extremely happy and satisfied! We had a table out on the balcony with a magnificent sunset view of Bondi beach. <br/>The service was excellent- with super attentive waiters and the food and drinks certainly met my expectations. The seafood menu is fun and simple and the drinks menu is YUM! I wanted to try every cocktail there was! <br/>Cant wait to come back! It's the perfect place for drinks and tasty food with a relaxed beachy vibe.

Beautiful restaurant by the sea, bustling with people on a Saturday afternoon. The food they serve are non pretentious, using quality and fresh ingredients, perfectly put together for a very refreshing experience! Would love to try their Popsicles on my next visit, especially on a hot summer day.
Zach Kutlow
We had a really good dinner here a few nights ago.  The fish tacos and the crab sliders were our favorite dishes we had, and I would recommend those over the lobster roll.  We also had the ocean trout from the raw section which was excellent.
Kate
Simple and plain food. Simple menus are good, but this was too simple. Not nearly enough to choose for mains. Service was poor, staff did not know specials, and they were very inattentive. Very noisy atmosphere, hard to have conversations. Good view, on positive note.
Snowbunny Ang
Beautiful location but mediocre food. Being a huge fan of Matt i had came to expect certain standards but they were not met. Ordered the cloudy bay clams n for $39 for about 15 pieces of broken clams with grits n bits in them is not acceptable and the lobster roll i ordered was stale. However the manager replaced my lobster roll for a calamari that is delicious after my feedback so kudos to that. For the money i spent i would be better off at Chiswick

The girlfriends and I chose this venue for a long overdue catch up. We ordered cocktails at the bar while we waited for a table. I ordered the Crab Linguine which had a hint of chilli and lime and it was delicious! Highly recommend this place for a lazy lunch or dinner when your not in a rush as when it's busy service can be slow.
Nourishment Bowl
The fish tacos, the beach views and the cocktails are just a few reasons to come here! Perfect on a hot summers day and great for big groups.

Edit on July 10th 2016<br/><br/>Came back to this place almost after 6 months. It seems they have a new chef and a new menu. Much better dishes. Both the quality of the presentation and the food has improved a lot. Considering number of times we had a bad experience here, we need to see the same quality a few more times before recommending this place. <br/><br/>Anyway I have updated the rating from 1/5 to 2.5 out of time. Our today's experience would probably be 3.5 out of 5 but Zomato doesn't let you add multiple reviews on the same place. <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>Review on June 28th 2015<br/><br/>The place has great location and we love hanging out here and having long boozey lunches. While you might not have rated the food as one of the best in Sydney, it was good. However seems to have fallen off the cliff.

North Bondi Fish, located at the old North Bondi Italian site, brings a laidback yet upmarket vibe to fish and chips. Situated right on the beach, breathtaking views of the beach tantalise as you feast at celebrity chef Matt Moran’s seafood eatery.

<br/>Food was great , service fantastic.<br/>Sliders and tacos best in Sydney<br/>Sashimi excellent<br/>Apple tartlet was perfection.<br/>Wish I had something like this locally in my suburb

Located a few short steps from the sand and surf, North Bondi Fish is Bondi at its best. The restaurant is a relaxed space, which personifies beach side chic and is the perfect spot for lunch, dinner and everything in between.

Really don't understand the bad reviews about this place, the only thing I would say is it is overpriced but other than that very nice. We ordered an entree each (4) and shared these. They were quite sizeable and perfect for sharing. All very good. I had the crab linguine which was lovely, other dishes on the table were fish and chips, prawns (main) and confit salmon, all were enjoyed. Great place for a Sunday long lunch.

North Bondi Fish exudes three things; an epic view, a clever menu full of seafood stunners (with desserts that delight too) and the people watching is magnificent &#8211; a display of the best beach fashion and beach hair ever.

So I recently visited the brand new Matt Moran venue North Bondi Fish. Anyone who knows their food or is a self-proclaimed ‘foodie’ like me, will definitely have heard of celebrity chef Moran who started Aria in Circular Quay, boasting both breathtaking food and views. Two  years ago he opened up a more casual yet just as trendy and delicious eatery, Chiswick in Woollahra, which was THE  place to be upon first opening, continually booked out and visited by the who’s who of Sydney. Now he has seized the opportunity presented by the site of where Maurice Terzini’s North Bondi Italian used to live, and smartly created a seafood joint  (how appropriate!)  on the beach. The decor boasts a shabby chic look, with wooden chairs, huge crafty paintings of crabs and fish on brown paper straight off the easel, and big lantern-type lamps that instantly take me back to summers at my beach house where we had  exactly  the same lights! My first visit was on a Thursday night a few weeks ago with a frie

The wine starts to dull the senses while the atmospheric salt provides a gentle tonic for my lungs, while the stronger sea breeze insists on undoing the wonderful job my comb did with my hair this morning. It’s now dessert time and I just can’t go by the creme brulee. Creme Brulee with Raspberries and White Chocolate  The crunchy carmelised sugar is a lovely introduction to smooth creamy creme filling while the fresh tangy fruit flavours of the raspberry base offer a wonderful finish to the dish. The seeds inside the raspberries are a beautiful texture contrast and just pair with the grainy sugar to sandwich the smooth creme filling, giving a unique sensation on the tongue. Tyrrell’s Brokenback Shiraz (2011) from the Hunter Valley (NSW)  I just can’t shy away from a glass of red. So I pair it with my dessert. The dark vibrant purple liquid stares at me from the glass. Then the beautiful aromas of fresh raspberries and cherries fill the air and continue through to the tongue with a rich deep fruity base balanced with a light acid and the grip of the oak tannin. Couldn’t think of a better signature to end the lunch. The Tiramisu cocktail is the choice for my dining companion (Its got Chivas Regal, Caramel, Kahlua, Ameretto, Double Cream and Chocolate)… yeah its pretty potent. I didn’t get to sip it, but its the perfect excuse to pencil in another lovely afternoon at this place to try it. Tiramisu Cocktail A wonderful leisurely lunch, with a casual feel, beautiful views, fresh seafood and a good selection wines. A real treat! Share this: Twitter Facebook

North Bondi Fish, Matt Moran’s latest restaurant with Peter Sullivan is located just across the road from the north end of the famous Bondi Beach. Opening from midday into the late evening, North Bondi Fish is the place to be for a great seafood meal or a range of exciting drinks. Since NBF opened up recently, we decided to dine here for lunch on Valentines Day. This was our experience: ENTREE: Crumbed Calamari Rings – Lemon Jessica: When you look at the photo the calamari rings don’t look that crunchy.. however, to my surprise there is a good crunch when you bite into it! These were crumbed perfectly, a good amount of flavour on the outside. The calamari was cooked very well, and they were seasoned well with salt. By itself they tasted above average.. but when you add lemon and the aioli, it gives extra punch and it’s sooo yummy! Please note that you may want to squeeze the lemon a little as you go… if you leave it for too long the lemon makes the crumb soggy. You do see that there ar

On a sunny Saturday, we lunched by the beachfront at North Bondi Fish, formally the home of the now defunct North Bondi Italian. This is the newest venture of the entrepreneurial Australian chef, Matt Moran. We were seated perfectly, by the floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the beach at North Bondi with a good view of the brave and adventurous swimmers and surfers making their way through the waves. Not surprisingly, given the location and name, the menu is all about seafood, though the menu design could do with some work. It is the cocktail and wine options that seem to be given greater gravitas in the layout. We really had to focus our attention on the single column of food options, visually overpowered by the drinks list. on either side. Cocktails to the left and wine to the right. The menu is a little difficult to navigate and it wasn’t until sometim

We had a great lunch experience today sitting on the stools facing the ocean.  Reception and service were spot on for a casual lunch by the best city beach in the world. Much improved from the Italian, which, admittedly, set a pretty low bar.  The revised interior is much more suitable to a restaurant by the sea.

A girls night was in store with the other marshmallows and one of the marshmallows recommended North Bondi Fish.<br/><br/>I don’t go to many Bondi restaurants so I was excited to see what the menu was and hopped online to see decide what I wanted to have before we arrived. Yes, I get excited like that. Weeeeeee!!! There was a lot of good food on the menu so I decided to just wing it when I got there.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is really relaxed and is really romantic at night as the candles on the table become the lighting source. If you are here for a lunch or an early dinner, the view would be amazing overlooking the beach.<br/><br/>And to the food! I was actually craving oysters that day so it made sense to order Sydney Rock Oyster with Lemon and a Pacific Oyster with Grapefruit, Mint and Chilli Dressing. Both were so fresh and creamy. Creamy oysters are DA BOMB (yes, I just said that. Don’t judge. Haha.) I tried one of my marshmallows friends’ entrees which was the salt and pepper calamari. The calamari was fresh, the batter was crispy and crunchy. One of the nicest salt and pepper calamari’s I’ve tasted.<br/><br/>For mains, I ordered the Petuna Ocean Trout with eggplant, coriander and lime. The trout was cooked perfectly and the skin was crisp and crunchy, just how I like it. To be honest, I wish there was more eggplant. Overall, I would definitely order it again. We also ordered chips for the table but they were a bit of a let down. They were a little bit soggy and didn’t have enough crunch for my liking.<br/><br/>North Bondi Fish is a nice restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely visit again and try more the food on the menu. I really want to try one of their house made soda’s next time as well. They sounded really nice.<br/><br/>Atmosphere: 4/5 Marshmallows<br/><br/>Price: $$<br/><br/>Food: 3.5/5 Marshmallows

The venue itself is breathtaking with panoramic of our iconic Bondi Beach, and the simple and summery seafood dishes are well matched with the good selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Petit Fours
A bit ho-hum but the flavours are really clean and fresh. The salmon was cooked marvelously; flaking and ultra tender but juicy with subtle grill marks. Still, it's missing something. Perhaps a bit of goats cheese will really get it going. And definitely some crispy skin.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Aria’s Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan have brought the good old-fashioned seaside feel back to the restaurant, with a fresh and modern menu. Start with a Beachside Fizz ($16), a very fancy vodka soda with almond syrup; or if you want to feel like a tourist, indulge in the North Bondi Colada ($16), a fun and filling cocktail. Stick to the theme and order the Fish and Chips ($29) , which would make the Motherland envious - and without swimming in grease either

Great lunch had the moreton bay bugs and the grilled John Dory for 2. What a nice place to have lunch good buzz and food was excellent. Book and spoil yourself

After several return visits to NBF, I can confirm that this is a very good casual lunch by Bondi and the service is leaps and bounds ahead of the old NBI. Very friendly and happy staff, not too cool for school. It seems that the pretentiousness has been reversed with any negative comments here.

Great food, unbeatable location to watch the sun set. A beach-side table is hard to beat for a gorgeous sunset view. We had a sampling to many small seafood selections and all were terrific, especially the fresh oysters. Service was excellent!

Bit dissapointed due to the service.... A 20 minute wait for a round of 6 drinks after ordering is too long, especially given it was just wine and beers (and a cocktail but it came out another 5-10 mins after!). I expect the service to be up to scratch when there is a 2 hour limit on the table booking. It was fairly busy when we were there, but not fully packed and the bar seemed to have ample staff, so not sure what went wrong. We would have spent more money if the service was up to scratch! The bottled beers were not as cold as you would expect (perhaps an issue with the restocking of the fridges). <br/>On the up side, we were given an outdoor table, which we had requested on the booking form and it is an incredible outlook and great vibe. Only ordered nibbles to share which were good and the mains being served to other tables looked delicious. Perhaps the service is a bit better if you are seated inside, as you can get the attention of the wait staff more easily.

Had dinner there last night and not too impressed . The fish tacos and crab sliders were good , but the tuna was flavorless, and the sweet potato scollops have to be the worst thing that I have been served in any restaurant for many years ! Hardly any potato, and oil just dripping out of them. Wait staff were good , and venue is nice , but the food has a long way to go.
Penham711
Tasteless and overpriced. Food was average and tasteless, service was very average I dont believe you should have to find someone to place your order. Mains took 40 mins to arrive and pasta was overcooked and rubbery. Staff was more interested in socializing with their friends who dined than obviously the paying customers as many were waiting??? Desserts werent much better donuts were a total no go under cooked and not appealing. Maybe if we were a friend of one of the staff things may have gone better??

Amazing!! 10/10. I can't beleive the negative feedback that this restaurant has received! Had dinner here in a group of 4 and everything we ate was amazing as was the service - completely up to the standard expected of Matt Moran. Will definitely be back!

Why bother making a booking?. I don't see the point of planning an outing to a busy restaurant in advance to have it be of no benefit. Especially as the people just in front of you clearly don't have a booking but are mates with the maitre'd and get the nice table outside while we with the booking are shoved down the back of the restaurant near the loo. We sat there for our two hours and watched with some amusement another nice outside table be vacant for the duration. Yes we had asked if we could have that table and the answer was NO!!!. <br/>A large booking also came in and asked for the other large table instead of the one they were seated at and were also refused and watched it be empty for the duration of their meal.<br/>So I suggest unless you are mates with the maitre there is no point planning a meal here as your for thought brings no benefits.<br/>The food was acceptable.

Nice view but the food and drinks are very overpriced. The food was tasteless, I had to make my own sauce using mustard and lemon. It's for tourists.

We walked in off the street at 6pm and asked for a table for 2. We were told we had to be out by 8pm which was fine. Our waiter had a cool vibe. We shared all the specials plus a ordered the flathead and chips, because I've been thinking about fish and chips all afternoon. The specials were great, but the fish and chips was poor. Which was unexpected at $30 a plate. it's better at my local fishy.

Love location .. But $14 for a stone and wood ... Really ?. Got great table, beautiful view, service great once you are served, busy day which is fine ... Food ok , and little pricey ... But maybe a misprint as I checked online menu when I got home, but the stone and wood pale ale was $14 ... Really ... Good atmosphere , though I won't hurry back as I need more value for money from my eating out $ ...

Beautiful views, average food. The service and location are faultless. The fish & chips was overpriced and decidedly average, a bowl of chips and raddico salad shared by the table were both almost unedible and barely touched, the salad leaves too bitter and tough, just covered in oil, no proper dressing (the orange was nice) and a bowl of chips cold and unappetising. It's not hard to at least make decent chips! Went as we were expecting the Italian that used to be there. Will not return.

Great for a relaxing dinner. Surprised to see so many negative reviews. I had a good experience. Venue had a great fit out, service was friendly, and the food was enjoyable. Didn't blow me away by any means but would definitely go back. Only negative was having to listen to some of the other diners be so rude to the wait staff! Completely unnecessary. Miserable gits!

Just OK. This place is just OK. Menu isnt overly extenisve or exciting and farily pedestrian. 20 bucks for 5 peices of Sashimi is a little cheeky. Service is great once you get their attention. Food is good, tasty but nothing amazing for the price. Great interior and atmosphere but no where as good as Chiswick, Moran's other restaurant. Turn your expectaions to low and you will have a nice time.

Fantastic. I can't understand the negative reviews for this restaurant. I've been here a few times now with various groups and no one has ever been disappointed. The food, service, atmosphere, cost and of course the location are all spot on. I highly recommed it.
Marty
Professional but un-memorable. Like Chiswick, this place is disappointing given that Matt Moran is behind it. They took over a great space from North Bondi Italian and gave it the laziest of refits (a lick of paint and hung some pots on the wall). The menu is fine, fish themed and slightly boring. Food was well executed. Cheap wine. Service, okay. Overall a competent but not memorable experience.
Hungryhippo
It had a great atmosphere, it will be nice in summer. Food was okay but the crab pasta was very boring and I didn't think the peas went with it really. But the main thing was the chips weren't hand cut....in a seafood restaurant! Nothing worse.

Have been twice now. Excellent, friendly service and food excellent. Great for families. Really cater for kids and you can't beat the view. Will be a regular now on our roster.

What a waste of money. Just when Bondi was starting to get some real good resturants, along came this place. The only thing that prevented this place from being a complete disaster, was how good the staff was. The food on the other hand is a complete shocker...maybe Matt Moran should spend some time there in order to see what garbage comes out of the kitchen. I would seriously doubt that it is fresh seafood. It takes serious cajones to charge that much for that quality...I will never go back and I hope ti closes soon...

Nice surprise!. We have been twice now for dinner, both times in March. The first time I was expecting it to be bad after seeing the rating on Urbanspoon and some of the reviews but was wiling to have a go. I'm a tough critic and I have to say that I just cannot understand why it's sitting at 52% and not about 90%.<br/><br/>Both times we were there, for two birthday dinners, all dishes were exceptional. There is no question that the use of fresh ingredients throughout makes for a flavour sensation. The crab linguine to the BBQ prawns. Even the sorbet dessert was brilliant (sorbet made on site). They even threw in a candle and a happy birthday chunk of chocolate. Nice.<br/><br/>While the service is your typical laid back Australian-Bondi style (don't expect a fine dining NYC experience), we found the waitresses and one waiter very friendly and on the ball. The waitress recognised us the second time and made a point of having a brief chat.<br/><br/>For the two of us the bill was about $100. For that we split a large entree, had two mains, wine and dessert. Not bad. And a view right down Bondi Beach. Just be aware that there are mosquitoes buzzing around, especially at dusk out on the deck. Bring repellant if your legs are out. Just go.

Overrated. Had timed booking last night. When we arrived, we were told our table wasn't ready even though there were a few empties. We were given the would you like to have a drink at the bar BS. The bar was over crowded, no stools available. We were hungry. On the 3rd try we finally were given our table. Surprise surprise, it was one of the table that had been sitting empty for 45 mins whilst we spent money at the bar - what a rort. So already hungry and pissed off before we even sit - great start to the night. But wait, theres more. The food came out promptly (big deal). My first thought was "wheres the rest". Small portion sizes, very disappointing lack of flavour, To top it off, my husband spent the evening throwing up. Would NEVER recommend or go back again. this joint gives your local fishnchip restaurant a good name ,this joint relies heavily on location and name only and we are Bondi locals so we don't need to see what we see on a daily bases
Mario
Is This A Joke. We had our table booked for 8.30pm which we arrived for on time and told our table was not ready, although there were plenty of empty tables ,waiter asked us if we would like to wait at the bar and have a drink ,45 min later we were sat at 1 of the tables that was empty the entire the time we were there ,we then ordered our food and children portions plates of food came out ,tasteless and over priced was my immediate thought after the 1st mouthfull ,it left a bad taste in my mouth and wallet ,I would NOT recommend this place to anyone I feel violated ,how they get away with this is beyond my imagination, the atmosphere was pumping to which I thought I might just get my stomach pumped as well Goodbye

Sad to say we were both very underwhelmed, really expected more from Matt there wasn't anything that came out to our table that I could not have prepared myself. The menu and service was flat, too much reliance on the location not enough thought on the menu. For the price we paid I expect a higher standard of food and service. Sorry Matt for us it was a poor experience.

Sir. My girlfriend and i had a booking for 8:30pm. we were running late and when we got there our table was ready. service was great and the waiters checked in on us regularly. i have to say the food was exactly what we thought it would be. everything was just right and the doughnuts were freaking awesome. the vibe, the crowd, the service, and the food was all great. will definitely be back!
Eve.israeli
Dinner. Very average food and terrible service, definitely wouldn't recommend it, the only good thing is the view.
Francesca De
Unfortunately neither the food, nor the service live up to the expected standard. We had to wait 20 minutes for a wine and beer drink order. The food was bland and it seemed like they just used salt to give some form of taste. Disappointing.
Dolly Rebecca
Good fun! Slightly put off by the bags of McCain frozen chips slung on the pass every few minutes ($8 a bowl). However, the ceviche and octopus were delicious. Prawn roll nothing special. Cocktail were lovely. Service was great.
Carla
We booked a table and were made to wait at the bar. After 15 minutes passed our booking time we went to ask the hostess. She looked and realised our table was waiting dirty. She cleaned the table and sat us 10 minutes later. The service was poor throughout the night had to ask to order another 20 minutes later and then after we finished our meal the plates sat for another 15 minutes before we asked for the table to be cleared and the bill. Had the service been on point they wouldn't have had to make us wait for our table or the next client. Food was less than average. The crab linguine was bland at best and the sirloin had a large strip of fat which half was half the steak. Iceberg side was literally iceberg lettuce with no dressing for $10. Only positive as they acknowledged the mistakes made and brought a free dessert. Won't be back which is a shame as we wanted to like it and love Chiswick.
Food Glorious Food
Love the new decor. Food and service both relaxed and very good. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Wine list amazing. Will be back.

Disappointing. I'll start with the positives, the berry and chocolate sundaes were great and made me feel like a kid again as I ploughed through it. The dude that looked after our table was also really nice and deserved his tip. Plus the views are great and dining experience is relaxed and pretty cool. <br/><br/>However the negatives totally out stacked the positives. The Calamari was tough as old rubber, it was like bad pub food from the 80's and the worst I've had in recent memory. The prawns and scallops were both overpowered by the taste of charcoal from the grill and the snapper was bland and very disappointing. The crab linguini was quite nice but it left my missus in a bad way, it took 24 hours of gut wrenching before she was back to normal. We didn't complain about the food at the time, I know we probably should give the restaurant much needed feedback but in my opinion it just makes for an awkward evening, the damage is already done when they send out bad food. <br/><br/>They also cocked up splitting the bill, instead gave us two full bills by accident which we first had to pay before they could then refund half back. Harmless enough expect for the bank charge caused by them taking out nearly $600 (not $300) from a beer account that didn't have $600. In fairness they did agree to pay the bank charge if I take proof in. <br/><br/>In a word... disappointing! Great location, loads of potential, and a great menu let down by bad or average food. 98% of the time I'm really happy with the food I get when eating out, this was a 2%'er, in fact the worst food I've had (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) in over 2 years. Way below what we were expecting.

Needs a hard look at. 19/1 After reading the poor reviews I must come and experience first hand. Will update with my experience. Many have recommended. Bringing the Melbourne crew for early sitting Monday 20th. looking forward.<br/>20/1 OK we turn up the waiters were excellent, young lass from Brazil and the english guy who my mate teased all night about the cricket. Service faultless.<br/>Sydney rock oysters great but then they were delivered. Barramundi burger soggy, limp lettuce. It seems to have been untidily constructed by a ex McDonalds hand. Steak was enjoyed, Blue eye was "OK". Grilled salmon diner response was "average" Wines were excellent, short black bitter.<br/>Given the media hype and Matt Moran's involvement it was disappointing. Best comment at the table "We all could have done better at home" Overall would not return. What is it with Bondi being thought of hip anyway. I grew up here in the sixties, when Greek hamburger and fish milk bars pumped out great food back then. And the pinies were a zac. Now we have corporates with fast food outlets, Johnny come lately hip restaurants packaging simple seafood meals with fancy titles. Bondi is the Aussie version of Kuta, but for a few exceptions.
Matt
Very Average Food. Great location, bar and staff.<br/><br/>BUT the food is very average. Freshness and quality of the fish is well below par. Noted one of the reviews comparing the chips to Burger King, probably being a bit harsh on Burger King. Will not be back.<br/><br/>Would have expected better from Matt Moran and crew.
Rebecca Supanova
Great fresh seafood (as you would expect) - grilled prawns, oysters, tuna ceviche and calamari were standouts. rest was ok. <br/><br/>overall it was a good meal and ok service. I understand it's a beach restaurant but PLEASE something needs to be done about how hot it is in the restaurant- a fan would be fine. it was UNBEARABLE. absolute sweatbox on a hot day.
Dominique.hermo
Great Food at a Million dollar location. My family and I ate here on the 27/12 and had a really great meal. <br/>The restaurant had a great atmosphere and boasted a cool Mediterranean vibe. I was actually surprised, having had worked in a restaurant in the past, that although it was a very busy night, I was able to still converse comfortably without the need to scream over other tables chatter.<br/>It does get quite busy, so I would opt for an earlier dinner but overall loved the food and the service was of high standard. <br/>Will definitely be back
Chill
Ate here last Saturday 4th January. Staff friendly but service lacking massively. We sat at the bar. They forgot our order which came out with our second bottle of wine. Kingfish was not fresh. It was a hot day, however it looked cooked and tasted old. I've had better calamari at a local Chinese run fish and chips shop. We didn't bother ordering mains. Location speaks for itself so would go back for a drink only.

I can't wait to come back, and show this place to my mates! It is absolutely outstanding! Cooled down with a Hendricks and cucumber and waited approx 40 minutes for a table. Pretty grand for opening days! This place is Bondi Beach front, chic, and fun with a full time holiday atmosphere. It is fresh, and busy. Lots happening. Light menu, plenty to share, and the perfect social spot. Sensationally fresh, I ate the best Tuna Nicoise Salad I've had in my life.

Wonderful food, setting and service. What more could one want

Average. Wouldn't hurry back to this place. Location is amazing but food was pretty average. <br/><br/>Calamari left off order and then turned up cold, barra burger fish was dry and agree with previous reviewer that chips were a bit below par. In general, food not that flavoursome or well executed - for that price. <br/><br/>Staff were good.
Dunbar
Sadly won't be recommending this to friends. <br/>Likes - salad was good. Very fresh and tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive. <br/>Dislikes - stiflingly hot in dinning room. <br/>Menu too limited<br/>"Burger King" chips as we called them - expect better at this price. <br/>$60 a head and we only has mains, sides and one round of drinks - no desserts or coffees etc - expensive for pretty basic food. <br/>For a fish Resturant the fish options were particularly limited on an already limited menu. <br/>Unfortunately had to send back our Calamari as it had been deep fried far to long and breadcrumbs were black. <br/>Too many tables crammed in and in impressive decor and ambiance. <br/>All round pretty average from a team that can deliver much more. <br/>Not one to be recommended.
