Review Gelato Messina Bondi - Bondi

Thomas Reeh
Gelato Messina in the heart of Bondi. Some really interesting flavours - but more ice cream than gelato. The Pistachio Praline was nice, but sort of like Connoisseur ice cream, rich and heavy. Cookies and Cream similar story. Ice cream. Nice but rich. Milk Choc with peanut fudge also nice, rich. Nice place to visit.

One of the finest gelato parlours we've ever visited. Ok, it's expensive but you have to pay for quality, fresh ingredients and perfect serving temperature. The serving size is generous so you're still getting value for money. The queues show we're not alone commending this regular occasional treat! Highly recommended.
Mohammed Tayyebi
One of the best gelato places in Sydney. There was a variety of flavours and sorbet as well. I recommend the raspberry sorbet, bounty and chocolate and pistachio ice cream as they were delicious.
Lucas Hanna
Outstanding icecream and service. They have a variety of icecreams and sorbets, and also offer cakes you can purchase. Interior is designed nicely, quite small and no seating, however this isn't an issue. Would highly recommend for people at Bondi wanting quality and delicious icecream to purchase and consume while exploring.

I can not NOT recommend this place enough. The ice creams here are to die for. If there is one shop (well maybe two) outside of Italy to go for gelato it would be here. Haven't had the chance to try their thick shakes though. There's an excuse right there to make another trip to the land down under.

This is worth lining up for. It would be nice if the changing flavours could have more vegan options! Otherwise the permanent vegan options are delicious enough.

I love this spot! I was only in Sydney for 24 hours and my friend gave me the grand tour. When in Bondi Beach, I wanted sorbet and this place looked amazing. We stopped in and it was the absolute best. I ordered the Blood Orange Sorbet and it was AMAZING.

One of the best gelato place in Sydney, friendly staff and quick service, would definitely recommend.

The tiramisu ice cream is out of this world!! The cone tastes delicious too! I’m sad I didn’t get two scoops!!

The Messina located in Bondi is an amazing location and the ice cream is perfect after a swim at Bondi. It is refreshing on a hot day at the beach. Messina is the perfect place to go for Ice-cream.

Always busy and now I can see why. They have a large range of ice creams and sorbets decent size scoops that taste amazing. My favourite would definitely be the chocolate sorbet. It’s tastes almost exactly like normal ice cream. 100% would recommend to anyone!

Shocked by how delicious the ice cream was. I tried their salted caramel white chocolate and macadamia ice cream. It melts perfectly in your mouth. the balance of flavor was just perfect. I am in love with the salty and sweet combination of salted caramel, and you can really taste the white chocolate! Macadamia flavor was my sister's favorite. It was really nutty and paired well with the salted caramel. truly the best ice cream I have ever had in my life. It was affordable too, 2 scoops for 6.8 dollars.

While not exclusive to Bondi, there’s no better place to slurp some of Sydney’s favourite gelato than on the grassy knoll at Bondi Beach. All of our favourite Messina flavours are here on Hall Street: pistachio praline, salted caramel and white chocolate, and tiramisu, plus 37 other concoctions of deliciousness.

Love, love, love messina. I used to live up the street from the Bondi outlet and often got a one litre tub in summer. It’s a great dessert for when you have people over or just craving something sweet.

Delicious! We ordered hazelnut and pistaccio praline. The praline was really really good. there's so much good flavours to choose from and I didn't hesitate to try and taste 3 flavours hahaha. I ended up buying the praline because its so unique.

what a variety of ice creams, i felt like a child again! just pure hapiness and forget about the ice creams on specials some with a touch of rum and crazy flavour that make you never want to put the cup!!

One of the best thing in Sydney is Gelato Messina and tasting my favourite pistachio or salted caramel flavours. Rich, creamy and refreshing, it is a perfect companion for anyone taking a stroll along Bondi on an hot afternoon 😋

perfect!I love the low sugar chocolate!not too sweet, but still smooth and good taste. located near the bondi beach, enjoying the beautiful view with delicious ice cream
Fabulous gelato. I tried their choc chip, which had decadent chunks of rich chocolate pieces. The hazelnut was equally as good, creamy and satisfying.

Consistency is 🔑 and Messina is consistently delicious ! One of the few dessert bars that is actually worth the calories. The specials are always a great treat, all time favourite has to be the coconut almond ! Keep it up guys !

Perfect way to beat the heat! These gelatos are to die for, so flavorful, not tooooo sweet and so worth to try! Good thing we were able to see a branch while strolling in Bondi. We got 3 junior scoops less than $15 in total. Can you please branch out MNL?

Incredible ice cream with both fresh sorbets and delicious creamy options. Also have the most amazing combinations and specials full of flavour. I love the raspberry sorbet and the white chocolate salted caramel especially. Quick location from Bondi Beach and quick service. A standout in the Bondi area!

Don't miss out on their HONEY I'M COMB and HALO HALO gelato! So good 😍 Perfect for the sunny beach weather. Not too sweet and with a nice consistency.
Eatdrinkbe_merry
So happy when GM opened in Bondi Beach. All the more reason to now see Bondi as a major foodie destination in Australia. Love all the traditional flavours and gelatos however you've got to try the specials and every time I'm standing in line FOMO kicks in! Can't go past the Oreogasm (peanut gelato with Oreo custard and crushed Oreo biscuits). Maybe I'll take a tub home too. You never know when it will return!

I'll say it once and I'll say it a thousand times. I love icecream and I've tried all kinds from around the world but I still reckon that Gelato Messina is the best and will never be beaten. I've tried most of the flavours but efinitely have a soft spot for Apple Pie, and Pannacotta and Fig jam with amaretti biscuits.

gday. what a deliciously creamworthy experience this was for me and my tastebuds. I purchased the bloody orange supreme cream in a single scoop cup. bummer I didn't get a second scoop as a party in my mouth occured. the man who served me was quite tanned and made the experience unforgettable. just to add quickly. i had to mortgage my house to purchase a scoop of ice cream from this joint. so start saving

Very, very, very, very good. The salted coconut with mango salsa is just absolutely, delicious. Actually no, it's heavenly, angelic and flat out creamworthy. Don't reckon I've ever been so satisfied tucking into a sorbet in me life. The sorbets are just insanely good, (passionfruit, raspberry😩) however a few of their creams do tend to let them down. The lack of a simple chocolate is not good to see. The rotating 5 special flavours each day is revolutionary, and very exciting for an individual like me to see the menu being continuously spiced up. Although Darlinghurst has better quality, this was quite a treat, I was happy to eat.

I'm probably going to sound like a weirdo but I never quite understood the fuss over Messina. But how wrong was I!! It all comes down to the fact I had never tried their pandan & coconut sorbet. Hands down the best sorbet I've ever had. Actually, I think it's the best ice cream/gelato/sorbet ever but then again my pool isn't very big. And it's dairy free. How much better can it get!

Messina is incredible. Everyone who has been knows that. We used to go about twice a week but have cut down. There's the usual staples of sorbet fruits, and popular flavours as well as some pretty random and interesting specials each week. We went for the traditional favourites; tiramisu, chocolate and salted caramel and white chocolate. The best! Unfortunately someone ate it before the photo damn. Bondi is a good one because the lines aren't nearly as long! Too many health nuts around 😜
Issac_eatsalot
The swans lost the AFL final and so this bloke was in need of a good cream. Insert gelato Messina here. Quad scoop waffle cone with three of the weekly specials and salted caramel with white choc chip. Amazing. Every time.
Archerry_she25
Delicious ice cream ever. Come here twice on my holiday. The important thing is the ice cream is not too sweet ... So kinda healthy i think. Hahahah

Another branch of the ever popular Gelato Messina - the Bondi store is always bustling and serves up the same delicious ice cream that we all expect. The Salted Caramel White Chocolate still reigns supreme.

Rich delicious creamy fresh what more can you want in an ice cream. This place is always busy and I can see why. House music pumping out the door gives it a party vibe which is odd but I guess it's their style.

I'm so happy Messina has opened just a few streets down from my place. My favourite flavors are coconut & pandan, coconut & lychee, salted caramel, mango. I've had chocolate sorbet & chocolate fondant - I'm a huge chocolate lover but I can't stomach these flavors. Chocolate fondant tastes like what it is - texture is thick af.

Note: there's always a long line when I go which has me to believe this place is always busy. I've been at 12 in the afternoon, 3, 8pm and they've been busy 😅

Berry/marshmallow flavor was amazing. Chocolate chip was also very good. Fresh tasting, creamy, and a huge variety of flavored. Also, very unique looking cakes.

A consistent outlet of Messina. The gelato is pretty much same as other outlet, which are mostly great (there are a few that is more of an acquired taste...). Tried a couple of the specials, but they were bit sweet for me. Stuck to one of my trusty go to, the blood orange sorbet, which was perfect for a hot sunny day, and great refreshment from a beach-side walk. Minor downside is the lack of seats.

Messina can honestly do no wrong. The flavours of the week always pull me in without fail. Tonight I had the "Gay Ol Time" and I was singing with happiness wth each and every lick.

I don't know how they keep re-inventing the wheel with their flavours but they do a bloody incredible job at it. Only downer is the lines, but the ice cream at the end makes it so worth it!

Gelato Messina is one of the big gems you can find down in Bondi, as the queues will prove. Messina stocks full of ice cream not only of great taste and quality, but of a magnificent range of flavours. Be sure to ask for a taste test to try them out. A personal favourite of mine is the apple pie- a nice, creamy blend of Apple and cinnamon, totally complimenting each other in a delicious swirl of cold ice cream. The salted caramel is also a definite no-brainer. Perfect for kids and adults alike.

I dont get why people love it so much?
Having been to Italy and experienced the real deal, this does act as a corroboration of the stingy and overpriced gelato scene of Sydney.

The servings are meagre and the gelato is always way too cold; offering stiff resistance to the scooper (which is not used in italy). I go back hoping it will be good and each time I leave disappointed..

This place always has a line but gosh it's worth it. My go to flavours are the yoghurt and caramel and the gianduia bianca. If you haven't been to Messina you need to go!
Gingerandcoconut
This place is always packed, but oh well I know why! They have many dairy free options that are certainly unusual. Their coconut with mango salsa gelato is just de-li-ci-ous! Messina is my place to go for icecream.

What a discovery! Happened to just walk past this place and entered since I had a bit of a pang for something sweet. Totally blew my mind. The salted caramel with white chocolate is to die for. Make sure you try a few flavours before ordering.

Interesting flavours and quality ingredients lead to this being my favourite place for ice cream in Sydney. Plus you can't beat the view as you stroll on the beach. Open late too which is great for when a craving hits after supper :)
Zach Kutlow
People go nuts over this place, but even after 3 tries it has failed to really impress me. Maybe I need to give it a go when there aren't 400 people elbowing and clawing at each other to get to the counter so I can get some proper pre-order taste tests in.

The Messina is located around 150 meters from the beach front... an uphill walk too. We finished dining at Hurricanes and decided to cure our sweet cravings with some infamous ice cream from this place. If you're hoping to sit down and enjoy your ice cream here then you're out of luck. they only had two seats and a table when i went. The large counter allowed and catered for large groups to look at the ice cream and choose their flavours. They were very welcoming of trying out flavours... and we had a group of 7 people too. After sampling a large array we settled for 5 cups. I choose Oreogasm flavour which was the one of the special ones. It tasted fantastic... especially since the night before we were having the battle of Messina vs Cow and Moon. Glad my relos from the US got to sample both... to which we all agree... Messina has better, strong flavours but Cow and Moon is smooth as! Keep up the great customer service here! I'm glad with all the customers that you get... the friendly customer service is always top notch!

Too cool. Iconic is a word that gets splashed around a lot but Bondi Beach is certainly deserving of that status. A trip to Bondi is one of those things that you just have to do, whether you're a tourist, a local getting some early morning exercise or a visitor from other parts of Sydney. Once you have had your fill of sea, salt and sand, Bondi Beach now offers some really great food experiences, and Gelato Messina is certainly near the top of that list. I mean, come on, what could be more perfect on a hot summer day?
GM is set on Hall St, a short walk from the beach, so has a different vibe from the beachfront cafes. There's certainly no less buzz though, given the crowds of people that are usually gathered outside, eyes shining in anticipation. While the queues are long, the service is efficient so they move fast The staff are always happy to provide tasters, which is fantastic, given some of the flavors are challenging to the imagination to say the least.
Once you've made your all important choice, you will find a gelato that is rich and creamy and delicious. The perfect topping to a perfect Bondi day.

Fantastic ice cream. Rich, smooth and creamy and an ever changing array of flavours. The staff were super friendly and explained the set up with all the different flavours and specials. We went for the salted caramel and white chocolate and the milk chocolate and fudge. Absolutely superb!

Decent ice-cream. Expect a big line of obnoxious yuppies when you go in. The decor and specials are just plain pretentious. the employees wear uniform which make them all look like waldo from 'where's wally,' which is awesome. The specials are below average 90% of the time, but occasionally are very good. Original flavours are very good but not exceptional.

Delicious gelato and a great range of flavours - i like the classics but the more interesting flavours are amazing too. Cakes are wow!; really creative and good value for money all round.

Bondi Beach is jam packed full of ice cream parlours including Ben and Jerry's, Gelatissimo and Copenhagen. But today, on this scorcher of a day, we decided to visit Bondi Messina. Over 40 permanent flavours are churned in-house, along with a selection of at least five weekly specials. Banana Split + Mango Sorbet ($6) The Banana split was sweet and nutty whilst the Mango had a strong punch of the tropical fruit. They had some specials on the board but I didn't notice until afterwards... nooooooo! But, I guess it's an excuse to return. Pandan Coconut ($4) I could never quite describe what Pandan tastes like besides the fact that its ultra unique. It's collaboration with coconut is not unheard of in asian desserts so it was interesting to see it in gelato form. A selection of Messina's famous gelato cakes Contributed by Katrina

So Gelato Messina and I have a love-hate relationship. I had to stop following them on Instagram a while back, because their posts were just TOO damn tempting. Anyway, the line is always OUT OF HAND at night, so I’ve pinpointed perfect times to visit aka anytime not between 3-4pm (school rush) or 7-10pm (dessert rush). Crazy lines! They’ve been out of hand recently with their flavour creations having me drool on my phone screen! First there was Lamington -milk chocolate and coconut gelato annihilated with house made lamingtons - which was amazeballs! Followed by Cheesy Monkey – banana cheesecake gelato smashed with butterscotch spread. Now I don’t usually like banana flavoured ice-cream as I consider it too fake- but this was delicious, and hello, butterscotch is similar to caramel, is similar to salted caramel, which is basically heaven. So this was an instant hit in my books! Then there was Coco Loco- coconut gelato with dulce de leche jam folded through. All my friends know I a

Messina is one of my favourite gelato places – I tried it for the first time and I fell in LOVE with gelato! I’m so glad that there are now 3 different stores in Sydney and that so many people have become fans (like myself) but honestly I wish the lines could be shorter! Also that people could stop eating the flavours I want cause then it runs out and I can’t get any! So here are the 15 Messina flavours I’ve been dying to try and I can dream of them in my sleep… 1. Stranger with Candy - white chocolate and peanut gelato with candied peanuts. you can trust our stranger with candy. Strangers with CANDY! Messina’s peanut butter gelato is one of my personal favourite regular flavours so I CANNOT go pass Strangers with candy! CANDIED PEANUTS! One of my favourite snacks nomnomnom! And I've actually tried this one and it was DELICIOUS (my only regret is that I didn't take a photo!) 2. LITTLE BLOKE - peanut butter gelato with malt o milk biscuits and nutella fudge. Have a go at our lit

Next, we jumped out of our seats to go the famed Gelato Messina. Claim to fame? Voted best gelato in all of Australia. Honestly, if you haven’t heard of this place, then you are not even Australia. If you are a tourist and you leave without trying it then go. This place is not meant for you.

The flavouring was quite sweet because of the pieces of white chocolate, but I loved the salted caramel taste to it! Just wished it was frozen a bit more as it was a bit runny when we purchased it. Tiramisu My gelato. It was a choice between green tea and tiramisu but Mr C and I always have green tea ice cream so I went for the tiramisu this time! I was super happy with mine, I loved the pieces of tiramisu cake inside, and it was freshly made fr

Gelato Messina is by far my favourite ice-cream shop in Sydney and I am super excited it is set to open in Melbourne THIS WEEK.

Excellent Gelato. Gelato Messina is always packed at Bondi Beach... and it's no surprise why.
Their gelato is always delicious, well-priced and they mix the flavours up regularly too to keep it fresh.
Nothing bad to say about this place at all.
Miffy7
Their newest shop in Sydney is small and has no seating area but that doesn't stop the crowd who come to have their delicious gelato. I tried their banana split and my favourite white choc and salted caramel which were both nice.

LOVE. PEFECT. AMAZING.. BEST GELATO IN SYDNEY. every single flavour is amazing im not exaggerating at all. they're gelato is so different to other gelatos just imagine gelato but with more flavour, sweetness and smoothness. my favourite flavours would have to be salted caramel and white chocolate chips (sounds sweet but its not its very rich and creamy though its amazing, must try), banana split (there banana flavoured gelatos are always really good, especially if you love the taste of bananas and the peanuts and chocolate give it a good texture) these guys really know how to make proper gelato with the right texture and flavours making it more into a dessert than gelato! choc chips is also another flavour ALSO giandua bianca its like hazelnut and white chocolate with bits of hazelnut and toffee pieces it is actually really amazing, perfect balance of flavours. specials are always amazing and are always a must. service is ALWAYS pleasant, helpful and friendly. even on there busiest nights they keep calm and service goes quick. even prices are cheap for the amount of gelato you get and the quality. its just perfect ive never had a bad experience here, its just amazing HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

-----20 Mar, 2014-----

Once you have messina you will never eat another gelato again.
It is seriously life changing gelato. The quality of the gelato is amazing!
First time i went here i had Monoffee (banoffee special), choc chip and salted caramel with white chocolate chips. The chocolate is amazing and it great quality i was so amazed because i didn't know what all the fuss was about but now i do! i am not totally obsessed and always come here every weekend.
It can get busy during the night (as in lines out the door) but i recommend trying every flavour they are all amazing!!!
Prices are so cheap for the quality of the gelato. $4 for one scoop, $6 for two and $7 for three AMAZING and this is usually cheaper compared to other gelatos out there.
I cant describe Messina in any other way but amazing.
