Review Bambusia - Bondi

Luca Vingiani
Yes 5 stars, not a great restaurant, more of a diner feel and looks, but hey, if you’re up to authentic Chinese food pls come here. We had the best time and the best food and it was cheap! Which is always a plus. Again don’t expect anything fancy, on the contrary it feels like it’s a family run place. All extremely friendly and cheering. As always we asked for the leftover to go and problem at all….we will back for sure.

Bambusia makes me feel like home. Lively environment, great food, reasonable prices, caring service, open till late and so clean. I'd say try everything on the menu. Personal favourites - fried rice and the prawn with cashew nuts. Highly recommended.

I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Nostalgia bomb. Service was excellent and food was delicious. The shredded beef is a must.

What a feast for the sense of smell! Classic family run business with amazing service and the food was to die for. Well worth waiting a little longer for our takeaway tonight. Cant think of the last time of being so contented after a meal!

Always a good experience and the kitchen is producing as good a quality cuisine as ever! Richard is always ready with a good joke, the atmosphere is bustling. Extensive menu and inexpensive wine list. Hits the mark. Just go!

My first time here and honestly I am really impressed and happy with my experience. The place is cozy, food's great, service from all the staff members is a 10/10. Everyone should experience their food and hospitality.

We had such a wonderful experience at Bambusia! Everything from the food which was tasty, delicious, and so flavoursome to the service and the team who clearly work so hard to keep this family restaurant timeless is one that everyone need to enjoy at some point. We had the most amazing dinner, thank you for having us. Our new found gem. Xx

Food is nice and fresh but not too authentic.

I have been going to them for years.. the best original Chicken Curry with onions and OMG the boneless Lemon Chicken.... for home delivery it can take up to an hour as they are so busy but worth it...

Tonight we were just looking for a good Chinese meal (from Perth on holidays in a group of 9) - what we received was an awesome meal, food was delicious, staff were delightful and the owner was so welcoming and accommodating - not very often do you receive service as we did tonight. The only negative is that we don't live local to frequent this restaurant as our regular. Thank you for a delicious meal and friendly service. The fortune cookies were a lovely touch and it's been years since we were treated to hot hand towels before and after a meal! Loved it.

We have been eating at this restaurant for 26 years. We have always found the food very tasty, deep in flavour created by a great mix of spices. The food has always been consistent and is reasonably priced.Always fantastic service provided by the owner Richard and his team. The only downside is Richard's jokes which you are able tolerate whilst eating his wonderful food.

Just had the most wonderful dinner here at Bambusia Restaurant in Bondi Junction. A family run and operated business ,there wasn't a spare seat, the atmosphere was vibrant and the food and drinks menu extensive . Certainly a return visit is on the cards.

It was so busy in the restaurant that we thought we'd never get a seat, but they were so accomodating and found us a seat. Food was delicious, best we have ever eaten since we left Singapore 4 years ago. Staff were very friendly also.

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent value! It's the only place we go to every week and are never disappointed. Thank you Richard and Bambusia team.

Have been dying to try this restaurant for ages and it was worth the wait. Perfect food without the usual salty thirsty after taste you get at most Chinese restaurants. The owner was so lovely and our son (under 2) was very impressed with the icecream. We will definitely be back.

Excellent venue. One of the best Chinese pubs in Bondi. Has a great selection of spirits and the beef and black bean sauce is exceptional. Definitely worth a visit!

We had 1 Peking duck and 1 Short Soup take away - $75! Duck was chewy and difficult to eat, additional San Choy Bow was full of gristle and not at all pleasant. Overall: a lot of money to pay for a very disappointing sub-standard meal. Threw most of it in the bin.

This place has been pulling in the crowds for decades on the corner of Newland and Ebley Streets, and the Sat. night that we dined was no exception. It was packed to the rafters.

Passover had just ended, so that made it even busier than usual. Luckily we had taken the precaution (just) of booking ahead the same afternoon, because if we hadn’t done that, we would never have gotten a table.

But even though it was busy, everything went off smoothly. Six of us dined and we ended up with a nice table near the door, which was just as well, as it was a hot autumn night and given the number of people, the air con system seemed to struggle to cope.

There are plenty of wait staff on duty, so our orders were promptly taken and there was no long wait for the meals. We shared spring rolls and curry puffs for entree and after that it was each man (and woman) for themselves. I ordered the braised chicken with almonds, my wife ordered a vegetarian selection and our friends mainly went for prawn and chicken dishes. Everything was fresh and tasty and carefully prepared with love, care and attention to detail. Clearly, only the best quality ingredients are used here and everyone enjoyed their meals.

The atmosphere was lively and energetic, if a tad hectic, but then the carpets, plastic backed chairs and high ceilings tend to absorb most of the noise so we were able to converse without too much trouble.

Prices are quite reasonable with many main dishes coming in at under $20 and entrees can be purchased individually which is a big help if some don’t want them. So, for example we ordered six spring rolls but only two beef curry puffs. And they still take the Ent Book voucher, which will lop a further $20 off your bill. All up, for six of us, we paid $130, and that included three glasses of VB, six spring rolls, two curry puffs, six mains and a large bowl of steamed rice. Can’t complain about that.

The toilets are clean and well provisioned and with separate male and female facilities and plenty of cubicles, there’s no waiting around for one to become available. Better signage from within the restaurant wouldn’t go astray though.

The nearby Westfield Shopping Centre offers free parking after 6pm, but even street parking is available and is unrestricted after 6pm in Ebley Street.

This is a superior restaurant on every level, and one of the very few in this area that can actually get a full house. And despite the crowds, it hums like a well oiled machine. Food is excellent and service is efficient and polite. Next time though, I think I’d prefer to dine on a quieter weeknight to really be able to enjoy the food and the ambience.

The beef and black bean sauce is the best I have had in australia.

The soups are tasty, the rice is decent, and portion sizes are good too.

Sure it's not exactly cheap and ok the restaurant is a bit dated but it's just such a good Chinese that frankly it would take a lot to deter me from going here.

Keep up the good work! So good to have a proper chinese in the eastern suburbs

What a quiet unassuming friendly place with great food to back up a big menu. Highly recommend. It seemed like a family run place with all the professionalism of high end restaurants.

Great food and very friendly customer service. The staff were very efficient and the meal was great! Very casual place and we'll definitely be back. Try the wasabi steak!!!

I remember visiting this family friendly restaurant for a friends birthday way back in high school and it's amazing it's still going after it first opened 29 years ago. The current owner Richard Leong (no relation) has had it for the past 24 years. It's t

DINERS FROM COOGEE. We had lunch for the first time at Bambusia at Bondi Junction on 15 Feb 2015. We enjoy Malaysian food and found the food at this restaurant to be very good. The cooking and presentation of the food was excellent and the service was friendly and relaxed. We would recommend this restauant to anyone who likes chinese/malaysian food with a kick. We will definitely be dining there again.

Really good Chinese. Great, classic Chinese food!
Fast delivery!
Food was still very hot when it arrived.
Supreme crispy chicken, combination fried rice, shredded beef all to die for!
Louise
Awful service many times when ordering takeaway! We are a loyal customer yet on a few recent occasions when we have made an order it had arrived incorrect and when we have called the staff have accused that the order was incorrect - I think we would know what we ordered. Terrible customer service and bland food.

Thank you Richard and Mae. I say thank you because this restaurant is still as good as it was 28 years ago when my family and I first went there. The food is wonderful..prawn laksa, sizzling satay prawns, san choy bow, sizzling fillet steak, fried rice,,,it just goes on and on.
Love the atmosphere, the whole ambience of the place, the family... and the price is great...I even recommended that they increase their prices.
Thank you

We ordered a home delivery and was told it was $44.00....Food arrived at our house and we noticed we where charged $64.00!!! The guy called back to restaurant and took ages adding up cost! Finally gave us back $12.00 after we also tallied the charges up via their menu! They however charged us for delivery to rabdwick after not telling us on the phone!! We then went inside to eat and find there is no ice cream for our banna splits!! The food is ok but the service is horrible!

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. From it's sizzling Mongolian lamb to it's tasty fried duck, this place has been a family favorite for around 12 years.. It's only getting better with age. It's menu is diverse, and it's food cooked with love and chinese influence. Don't miss out ;)

Really?. I'm surprised by everyone's glowing reviews about this place. I found this place to be really average, greasy, Aussified Chinese. Blerg.

I highly recommend this restaurant, the staff are very friendly and the service is excellent even though it was a busy night! The food was great, I will definitely eat here again.

This will have to be the best chinese restaurant I have eaten at! Every time I go there, it never disappoints and will always, always hit the spot!

I like Chinese. Busy restaurant run by family. Everytime I've eaten here it is busy and noisy - in the right way. Can't go 'Wong' with the food either. Amply sized menu. Like the San Choy Boy chicken or vege style. Loved the dumplings soup. And my dry cleaner loved the Sizzling Mongolian Lamb! They take the Entertainment Book which may help make it so family and budget friendly. Look for the polystyrene crates where the owner keeps the doomed crabs ahead of them meeting their maker and on to your plate. Always a treat to show the little ones. friendly staff.

Wait staff were fantastic. Great value for money dining option - generous servings. Will be back again before to long.
