Review Zilver Bondi - Bondi

A bit on the pricier side for yumcha but well worth it! We went at around 1pm on a Sunday and didn't have to wait. 🌟 What we ordered: King prawn dumplings Taro pies with minced chicken Steamed pork rib Chicken feet BBQ pork pies Prawn & chives dumplings Egg tarts I definitely recommend the taro pies (they were the best I've had in sydney!) and the BBQ pork pies. The prawn dumplings had the biggest, juciest pieces of prawn so I defs recommend :)

Delicious food, a bit pricey when you have to pay $20 extra for vermicelli noodles on top of pippies. Peking duck was perfect, really enjoyed that. The yum cha is good quality.

Decent food but very overpriced with hidden charges for everything. They put a pot of Jasmine Tea on our table and the charged us per head for it including the kids who weren’t drinking it. Good variety of dishes come around fairly regularly but expect abrupt service… especially if you ask to see the bill when you’re shocked by the price at the end!

Had a pleasant yumcha experience in different Zilver branch but this time was quite disappointing. Almost got skipped in line for some reasons. Foods were too salty and spicy. Ordered foods never arrived. It was really hard to ask for water or tea refill that I had to grab them myself. Waiter placed tableware very loudly. Didn't ask in advance if they could separate our tables to accomodate other customers. Then didn't even separate them properly as if they were part of our dining group. Lack of basic service manner and poor service. Normal take away restaurants even have better service than this. Surprised that Zilver quality was this poor considering the price that they charge.

Worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant!!! I ordered deep fried crispy skin chicken and small steamed rice.. The chicken arrived still cold on the inside and lukewarm on the outside! (NO WAY THIS WAS JUST DEEP FRIED!!) The steamed rice was also cold and claggy. I sent it back to be reheated and the meal arrived 3 minutes later in the same condition. Disgusting for $35!!!!! When I complained to the manager he magnanimously said he would not charge for the rice (probably left over from lunch) HORRIBLE AND EXPENSIVE! AVOID! AVOID!!!!

Terrible, worst customer service ever, can’t understand how they run a business. The ONLY good thing is the food was good . They tried to rush us cause they close at 9.30, we booked for 7.30, the bill came and the waitress hovered around waiting for the money then we find out they won’t split the bill, we were 4 couples wanting to pay separately with cards, lucky some had cash. The staff were rude, will never go there again.

My friend took me for lunch there, it was the worst service ever. We had to chase the trolley staff to serve us and even then they wouldn't. It seems that being of Asian heritage is a big advantage as they seem get all the food as soon as they seat down. Not good at all!!! Will never return. Oh and green beans are more expensive side than meat?? Work that one...

Quality is ok to good, pricey for what it is, the service is all over the place and the pork not much flavour, the duck was tasteless and the chicken even worst. They bring you the rice first and then the meats 20 minutes later, not on guys, you need to learn to at least bring two dishes together, what you see in the picture for lunch no wine just bear over $150, pricey.

Yum cha has become a bit of a go to for us lately. we’ve always liked it, a lot, but nowadays it seems we are gravitating towards it more often than usual. We do love the variety it offers. We still know people who have never tried it too! If you haven’t - well, you should. Trolleys of entree sized servings of different dishes come around and you simply take al ook and say what you want. If that trolley doesn’t grab you, don’t stress. Another will be along shortly with more choices. Zilver has a good selection and the trolleys come around very regularly.

This is an okay Chinese restaurant in Westfield Bondi Junction. I’ve visited here for yum cha a few times and had the standard dishes like the steamed dumplings, shu mai, rice noodles and custard tarts which were all pretty tasty. The only thing is that the carts don’t come around frequently so there can be a bit of a wait for food.

We just saw the waitress deliver our dish to other customers table、 later the manager realized that and bring the food straigth to my table. I wont believe that any chef will present a plate like this!?<br/>The manager said: The food was direct deliver to us and they did not put to others table.<br/>worst experience ever and food not worth that price<br/>will never come back again

I tried to be polite but the staff there wasn’t polite. They look like you own them money. We went there on Monday evening. The food was not fresh. The bill comes $100.8. The service was terrible. I would rate 0 score if I can. Never come back and never recommend to anyone else. Btw, the service of silver in Haymarket is also terrible. I thought they should be better in Eastern suburb but they are not.

Situated conveniently inside Westfield Bondi Junction, Zilver is a contemporary Chinese restaurant to enjoy a nice lazy weekend yum cha feast. Most of the usual dumplings and other delights were available the trolleys which was pleasing. They also feature some adorable, cute dessert buns as well which were fun to try. I loved the salted egg yolk bun but the taro pearl one - the pearls were a bit too hard inside. Overall, a good dining experience.

This place is shameful! My son and I went there for lunch today. The service is poor, the food cold and very ordinary and when it came to the bill, $104 later and for the life of me both myself and my son couldn’t work out what for. Overpriced and extremely ordinary. Lift your game and don’t rip people off.

Amazing Chinese delicacies ! 💥✨<br/><br/>Love the peking duck, shredded beef, crispy pork belly, and they have amazing dimsums.<br/><br/>Food comes around 10-20 mins.

Review 2.5 stars. Looks can be deceiving! This place appears to be a fine dining Chinese restaurant, based on the decor, menu, fancy seafood tanks/dishes and the price of some of their meals; but it was far from that. We ordered the prawn wonton soup which was salty as and the bbq rice option with the soy chicken. The chicken was bland and had no flavour. I was highly disappointed, I can get the same quality/ if not better quality food and at a quarter elsewhere. Definitely won’t be coming back.

Located in Westfield Bondi Junction in their restaurant precinct on the upper floor. Service can be direct but good nonetheless. <br/><br/>Started off with some steamed dumplings. Mix of vegetarian, seafood, and pork. Some were better than others. We had duck three ways which was served as a Peking Duck then as a Duck San Choy Bau then the remainder just as itself. It was all very tasty. We then got the Shantung Chicken With Pineapple (first time I’ve ever seen it served with pineapple) and also Fried Rice. There was more than enough food between us (large doggy bag required and they charge for containers for takeaway). Finished off with some steamed ‘Green Monster’ sesame buns. They were fun and quite tasty.<br/><br/>Overall the food is quite nice and a good dining option if you’re shopping or watching a movie within the area.

We purchased a voucher via Groupon and the food is surprisingly bad and we have been allotted to a table that is at the corner facing the toilet and a walk-path despite there are many empty tables out there even left unattended after we finished our meal. The explaination from the waitress was “that section is not open”. Purely lying. Wine was tasteless 5 dollar ones. Won’t come back again.

Seek for good yumcha in Sydney?!?!!!<br/>Highly recommend come to try at Zilver Bondi then you would forget any other yumcha that you try in Sydney <br/>Very good and tasty !!

3.5/5 <br/>Ordered some prawn dumplings and steamed scallop for entrees, lemon chicken, crispy chicken, and a mushroom and tofu pot as mains between 4 people. They served the entrees together first and then the mains together, which was nice. The sauce for the lemon chicken was served seperately, so the breaded chicken was not entirely soaked in lemon sauce, which was a little bit disappointing. The portion of the crispy chicken and the tofu pot was good, so we left satisfied. <br/><br/>The quality of the food was like your average Chinese restaurant, maybe a little bit better, as they put some thought in presentation. We might try some other dishes when we return next time.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Bursting back into Zilver Bondi three years after my last visit – yeah, okay, I don’t like shopping centres very much – it was exciting to see that this modern Chinese restaurant has continued to develop. The beautifully illustrated menu gives you an easy way to visualise dishes; and on this visit, by virtue of dining with a large and disparate group, I got to cover a lot of ground on it. We began our meal with a flood of dumplings, with most of the table descending into a frenzy of Piggy Steamed BBQ Pork Bun ($11.80/2) squeezing poses to increase their Instagram cache. Turns out cutest isn’t always best, with the ugly dumpling – a black-flecked, transparent and gelatinous Truffle King Prawn Dumpling ($9.50/4) – easily winning on flavour. While my Insta-famous table mates were busy filming stories featuring themselves seductively biting the heads off Swan Scallop and Taro Puffs ($12.80/3), I took a large bite out of a fried Hedgehog Bun ($7.80/2) only to be surprised with a sweet chocolate and red bean centre. Rookie mistake! While Zilver Bondi's lunchtime yum cha does come around on carts, there is...

In all honesty I'm usually a bit cynical of suburban yum cha offerings, preferring instead to go to Chinatown for "the real deal", but being a Bondi local (at the time) and wanting a quick fix, I decided to check this place out and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dishes. The har gows were jumbo-sized as were the prawns in the rice noodle rolls. Price was reasonable and service was good; looking forward to my next visit.

Love yum cha at Zilver because of their creative & cute dim sum. Not just the look, they also taste delicious. There are so many varieties to choose from, would love to go back to try them all. Every dish we ordered was tasty, they were fresh & good portions. Hollow Jian dui is a must, crispy yet chewy, it’s a delicious sesame seed coated hollow donut. 😋 Salt & pepper King prawns & Chicken feet are also recommended. 👍🏻

The service was rushed and lacking - not terrible but the one in the city is definitely best. Food was fine but also very expensive for what it is

Purchased a banquet voucher and was extremely disappointed. The 8 courses consisted of 3 dry steamed dumplings, one duck pancake, one sang Choi bau, an extremely tasteless fried rice, one plate of old tough duck pieces and a red bean soup for dessert. We also ordered another dish, Singapore noodles, as we had an extra person come to dinner. This was as tasteless as the rice. The service was also terrible. We were asked three times what drinks we wanted to order. We had a brief unintelligible description of what the banquet consisted of. The food in the picture shown was left on the table for over half an hour as the wait staff avoided our table. The staff were not particularly friendly and looked depressed like they being forced to work there. It was by far the worst meal I have ever had. We all got sick within an hour of the meal. I could not recommend this place to anyone ever.

Just magnificent yum cha in Shopping Centre setting. Light on MSG, fresh and hot and super tasty. Good ambience, old Chinese biddy's serving up the grub and promptly served Tsing Taos. Whoever Zilver is they should be bloody proud 👅
Love At First Bite
Zilver is a modern Chinese restaurant chain that has stores in both the Sydney city and Bondi Junction. Their cuisine features the best of Chinese food, the traditional classics that have been passed from generation to generation, as well as more modern fusion dishes and ingredients. We visited the Bondi store for yum cha for lunch, keen for a dumpling and steamed bun feast! This blog post will review 10 of my favourite dishes from the meal.

It was around 11 on a Saturday when we ambled in for yum cha.  It was already busy, so you'd expect the food to be fresh and fast, to keep up with demand.  So it was surprising to find that the first dumplings we chose were barely warm, as though they had been doing the rounds for some time.  So was the second plate.  And the third.  Odd.  Then we tried the pipis.  Not even barely warm; they were stone cold.  And stone cold pipis in a fast-coagulating sauce are not at all nice.  We sent them back and asked that they be taken off our bill.  I watched as the waiter conferred with her supervisor.  She shot a withering glance in our direction, but made no move to adjust our bill.  The cashier was more amenable, but by then we were over Zilver.  And we won't be back.

I am always a big fan of yum cha, no matter where and what time of the day.<br/>I do believe good food it need to be able to eat any time!<br/>So I went to silver this afternoon after movie, just right bellow the cinema at Bondi Westfield. <br/>It used to be Kam Fook reataurant, if I remember correctly.<br/>The did awesome transformation to make this Chinese reataurant looks more elegant.<br/>Mind you, that the food also not coming cheap!<br/>However, in my personal opinion, if you are a big fan, I don't think you should put price tag on the food you loves.<br/>Waiter offered me tea, which I don't mind for rainy weather like today.<br/>Since I was lived in China for some years, ( and also have Chinese blood in me), I do know some rules regarding "tea manner" on dinning table.<br/>So the pointy neck from your tea pot shouldn't be facing you or the guess on the table, old Chinese say it is hoping for some bad thing to happen for the person that "pointed" with it.<br/>I was but shock that they didn't notice this thing, as I'm not 'gweilo' I'm expecting they know this tea manner thing.<br/>Well, soup coming with $8.80 price tag, I know.... So Chinese, right! 8 represent a good number in Chinese myth. <br/>Tasting platter not so bad, all came in good flavour, the only thing is ( again, my personal opinion) need to steam a little longer, a minute I supposed, because I still can fill the rawness of skin that wrapping those dumpling.<br/>But hey.. I did enjoyed the food!

It located at Bondi Westfield Shopping Centre, the closest Chinese Yum Cha from my place, serves great food. And I have to say it's more clean and tidy then most of the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown

Spontaneous lunch at Bondi Junction lead us here. Was surprised there was no line but pleased we could walk right in. We were seated immediately and offered tea. The food then started coming. Dumplings were hot and delicious. The garlic and prawn one was yum with chunky bits of prawn. Chinese broccoli was good as was salt and pepper squid. We noticed another table eating crab. We got food envy so ordered the same. It came out after 20min piping hot done salt and pepper style. The crab was delicious but a little fiddly to eat. Love getting messy with crab but this one particularly was difficult to eat. <br/>Anywho, enjoyed it here. Glad we came and decided here instead of the food court. Will revisit.

Average food. Expensive meal. The service is ok.<br/><br/>It's great that a place that serves yum cha has opened up si close to where I live but for me isn't worth the price tag.

Service was terrible even for a Chinese restaurant. Tea orders got mixed up, hard to get any table service (had to stand up a few times to get our dim sum), dumpling carts ran into my friend, dumplings were stale and tasted worse than frozen ones. Unapologetic marketing manager when we gave our feedback. Won't be coming back
Kaila Carroso
This place robbed me of $68.80 for 9 bite sized dumplings that where so stale, cold and tasteless... woollies does them better for a fraction of the price. I also got the wonton noodle soup which tasted like stale wontons brewed in old discolored water.

Do not bother visiting zilver. The staff were extremely rude on the day I visited and tried to encourage me to order a set/ specific menu which I didn't want to. After refusing, the waitress basically threw the tea that I ordered at me. The food here was okay, nothing special...just another standard Chinese yum Cha house. Service was absolutely appalling and I would recommend visiting another yum Cha house in the area.

I walked pass it without realising it's a Chinese restaurant, it is a fancy, modern Asian fusion restaurant. Maybe that is why it mainly attracting Western people or none Chinese customers. <br/><br/>The menu looks pretty traditional Chinese, major in fresh seafood dishes. However, the menu was way too big, oversize to the point that two menus together can't fit in one 2-people table 😅😅<br/><br/>Food was pretty tasty, good food presentation, i enjoyed every bit of it. Although food was pretty expensive... as expected. <br/>Good customer service, felt like we had a one on one waiter service, maybe it wasn't busy at the time?!

My wife's friends were visiting from Germany for this Christmas holiday period, and they were craving Peking Duck, as apparently its virtually impossible to get it over in the town they live in over there. They found a Groupon for a set menu banquet with the prime feature of Peking Duck. The Groupon ticket was a $28/per person cost, and had Peking Duck (Pancake, 3x per person, 1x San choi bao), Dim Sims (Prawn, Sui Mai, Spinach and prawn), Fried rice (with chopped up duck in it), the remainder of the duck, and a desert.  The set menu also included a glass of wine.<br/><br/>We substituted the wine for tea, and instead of the set menu desert (not even sure what it was meant to be), we subbed that out also for mango pancakes instead from their yum cha carts.<br/><br/>The food was not bad. The peking duck was crispy, pancakes thin, good crunch on the cucumber, though the hoisin sauce was a touch on the salty side. The san choi bao was a little bland, it smelt better than it tasted with the wonderful fragrance of preserved bamboo. The dim sims were fairly standard, as you would expect from yum cha service.  The fried rice was a touch on the dry side, and could have had a bit better seasoning in salt and pepper. The remainder of the duck was pretty good, and came with a plum sauce.  The mango pancakes were relatively fresh, the pancakes soft and pliable,  the cream cool, and not too over-ripened mango piece inside.<br/><br/>Service was a bit of a mixed bag. We had reasonably good care from on person who seemed to be a head-wait staff, but other people kept coming over and doubling up on the action. One of them actually got told off by the head waitperson looking after our table! It wasn't really something you should do infront of customers. In addition to this, whenever we wanted something extra from the set menu, we were reminded constantly that we had to pay for it.... One of our table had a beer, bottle, tsingdao beer, and it was $9! Steep.<br/><br/>The crockery was also a bit worn, my tea cup had chips in the lip of it, and the tea pot on the table also had chips broken off the spout. If you've read my other reviews, you'll know that broken ceramics is a big no-no for me.<br/><br/>At the end of the day, 3.5 is the score I gave due to the quality of the peking duck, and that they were willing to sub items on the menu being flexible. It wasn't a higher score due to the service squabbling and poor communications, plus the chipped ceramics.<br/><br/>Would I go again? Possibly, though more likely to go to try the yum cha, as a peking duck full course (2 ways) is $72, which, wow, you could probably get a lot cheaper elsewhere and it probably would be just as good, like in Bankstown or Cabramatta etc.

Excellent good and service. Duck tastes professional. Staff are friendly. Don't hesitate to treat your stomach well there. Amazing place for party.

Big Yum Cha fan but it really disappoints here, service was fair most dishes were very average and not served at temperature and when I asked for the steamed broccoli the attendant  threw her arm up as to tell me to wait then came back with the same tray, didnt understand that one. Price is overpriced for the quality<br/>$100 for 7 plates wont go back there for a meal again.

For our table of five we choose a 2.008 kg Salt and Pepper Lobster ($477.90, $238/kg). They've done us proud here and we're happy. The 2014 Rock Bare The Clare Riesling ($40) seems to have been a good choice to enjoy with the lobster with some nice buttery notes and not being overly sweet. Steamed oysters with soy sauce, ginger, shallots ($8.50 each) are huge. Maybe a little too large as they're bigger than a mouthful to try and eat but flavours were good. We've had the Peking Style Shredded Beef ($24.80) here before and happy again with it. Nice amount of crispy batter without being to thick and a tasty sauce. Stir fried scallops and vegetables with xo sauce ($42.80) have plump scallops in a tasty sauce that goes well with the Zilver special fried rice with crab meat, fried scallop, crab roe and egg ($24.80). We had to get nicely made Steamed BBQ Pork Buns ($8) for the Mrs as this is one of her favourite yum cha dishes. Fruit platter ($18) ended up being served complimentary and we had to get a Deep fried ice cream with caramel sauce ($9.80) for some nostalgic dining.
Shane&Brenda
Our server was excellent, the fried rice wasn't bad but the soup was quite thick, the consistency of sauce and the spring rolls had a very overpowering flavor.
Jordan Burrows
Since Zilver took over they have really brought the China Town yum Cha experience to Bondi Junction. My 3 legendary friends and myself can honestly say this is the best yum Cha we have had. Quality of food, service and the chilli sauce was next level. It was a great way to spend a rainy Saturday. Thanks Zilver
Tristan Whitley
Possibly the worst service I've ever received in my life. Waited 2 hours for a main chicken dish that was luke warm, had to ask twice for a beer and we never received our rice.<br/><br/>This place is expensive too, you think they would ensure a high level of serviceability.

DO YOURSELVES A FAVOUR AND PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT ! We have been going to Zilver in the city for many years and it is hard to believe that this Bondi Junction offshoot is even related to the original. The service is abysmal - actually the staff are rude; the food is average Yum Cha at best; there is no ambience whatsoever; and in fact as a trained Chef I can confidently say this is the worst Yum Cha experience I have ever had. I repeat - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS EXTRAORDINARILY AVERAGE  RESTAURANT! ZILVER IN THE CITY MUST BE ASHAMED TO BE RELATED TO THIS COMPLETE SHOCKER !

We'd been meaning to check this place out as soon as it went in at Bondi Junction.  We were able grab some dinner before a movie at the cinema and ordered the prawn dumplings, fried rice, prawns and snow peas, and hot and sour soup.<br/><br/>The dumping, main dish, and fried rice were very good and came out extremely quickly.  The service was also excellent.<br/><br/>I do not recommend the hot and sour soup, though.  It was neither hot nor sour which is too bad because I love hot and hour soup.

Came here for dinner , really enjoyed their food. My favourite was the stir fried lobster ginger and shallots with e-fu noodles, seafood was good nicely. However service was a let down, maybe something they need to work on.

Zilver is the latest yum cha incarnation at Westfield Bondi Junction. We were a group of 9 Westerners so our choices were not pushing any envelopes. The yum Cha selection was quite good, with well made dumplings and greens. The service varied greatly by wait staff - the younger waiter clearly wasn't interested but his older colleague was much better. All up a pretty good yum Cha and an improvement on the previous mob.
Miffy7
My family came here for an early dinner to celebrate CNY and initially we were left waiting in the queue for ages even though the restaurant was basically empty and there was a lot of staff walking around.<br/><br/>Once we were seated, the staff did look after us as my MIL arrived and as she is a regular they looked after us. We ordered their crispy pork belly, scallops with XO sauce, beef with wasabi and vegetables with garlic. We were also surprised at how reasonable the wine prices were. <br/><br/>I would like to come back here to try their yum cha.
Laura B
I wasn't expecting to enjoy Zilver quite as much as I did. The staff was excellent, very friendly, overly attentive and really accommodating to the kids in the group. The food was delicious and plentiful. We dined on the $45 seafood experience which included giant scallops, juicy prawns and perfectly cooked white bait. I'd definitely recommend Zilver for an intimate or larger gathering.

I absolutely love the yum cha at Zilver Chinatown - with more than 10x visits for so many different occasions..  when I heard that Zilver opened up at Westfield Bondi, I was so ecstatic as it's closer to home, which means less of a hassle to get to, and also weekend yum cha instead of in-between work yum cha! Woohoo! <br/><br/>Being here twice already, their menu tastes exactly the same as Zilver Chinatown, the hierarchical service is completely the same too - just the location and room atmosphere is different- a lot more natural lighting at the Bondi Zilver with its big glass windows.. So I actually prefer this one because of the room & location. <br/><br/>There's also one lady who served our table with yum cha options, she is super friendly and really has the best service - most of them are the typical shove-the-plate-on-your-table-and-make-you-pay-for-it ladies, but this one is really nice and always has a big smile on her face. Good service really makes a difference! <br/><br/>The food is great - ahhh and it's very drool-worthy, I don't find the yum cha too expensive as it's all very delicious all the time, compared to other yum cha restaurants I've tried in Sydney.. I always end a Zilver yum cha with their delicious mango puddings (with extra milk!), my meal is never complete without it now at Zilver. <br/><br/>Looking forward to the next return!!!

The service at this restaurant is really poor. The staff did not bother to acknowledge us for about 5 minutes until I went to find a staff member. The waiters and serving staff were indifferent to us and showed a lack of care or friendliness. The food was average Chinese food and was overpriced for the quality. Our family eat out at restaurants frequently and this is definitely a restaurant we will not visit again.

Service. Food. Ambience  Value: were the lowest I can score. My friends and I are suffering from an overdose of MSG. No service and hardly any customers. Will never return under this so called new Management. The last Owners were closed down by the Health Department
Janice Jacobs
Dined there News Years Eve. The food was terrible. The wine list very expensive $20 bottle of wine in bottle shop they charge $80. The dishes were exactly like any bain-marie take away chinese all with very sweet sauces. Food obviously not prepared on the premises but bought in. The worst dish was the so called Wagu beef in pepper sauce.  Half the plate was  full of broccoli the meat was not wagu beef. It was a cheap cut that was marinated in corn flour & vinegar to break down the sinews; it had been marinated for so long that it was slimy & stunk. We sent it back and asked for the bill.  No service no apology. It was like they were use to complaints. Had been there when the previous owners were there. Loved it. They were shut down by the Health Dept. This new owner doesn't have to worry as they buy in and heat up when ordered. Stay away from this place
Loella
Ate here after a movie in the evening and regretted it. Wished we'd gone down to the foodcourt and paid a quarter of the price for something edible. The squid had so much salt in the batter that it was like swallowing sea water (one of our party did in fact vomit), the rest was bland and overpriced, and served with indifference.
Joe
Had a good meal here. We had the roast duck, as pancakes and then San chow bow. Also had the Peking shredded beef. <br/><br/>The food was good but expensive. Also the service was a little lacklustre. Took awhile for them to take an order, and then the food came out of order as well. Even had to wait for rice.
