Review Zagame's Boronia - Boronia

Jonno Robin
Has all the facilities and good service, the place is well run, fast and friendly. The meal itself which was pork belly was nice and cooked as it should be with an authentic sauce however a huge pile of rice and not enough sauce to go around. Playground had some maintenance issues so attention to detail is lacking a bit however they were busy as heck so don’t think they’re to bothered about it.

Great pub. Has a fantastic big indoor play centre for the children. Keeps them very happy while you eat. Food was delicious. Went for a 2yr old birth day party. Was 12 adults at party everyone loved the meals. Chicken Parma, big serving and delicious .

Meals ok, decent bar/TAB area. For families - the kids playground has a huge climbing maze thing which little ones love. The video games used to be a good variety too, but on my last visit with family I was disappointed to see that pinball etc has been replaced with lots of those money sucking chocolate bar grabbing machines etc.

Playground is awesome for kids. Probably the best play area in a hotel I've ever seen. We went with a booking for a table of 20. Was a little disappointed as we booked over a week in advance but was given two separate tables. So kind of felt very seperate to one another. The food was reasonably priced and served fairly quickly. But I have to say the vegetables on the kids meals were ROCK HARD. They we're barely cooked and it was disappointing. And the kids nuggets and chips weren't the best. And you only get a sauce squeeze thing. Witch isn't enough tomato sauce for anyone especially a 3yr old haha But the serving sizes were all good. The staff seemed friendly and helpful. And I would go back on the how awesome the playground is alone.

Full, children's and Seniors' meals available. Good selection. Average pricing. Some free drink vouchers and ice cream vouchers for the kids. Great indoor playground. Nice environment.

Absolutely amazing food and service. The play park for the kids is great but unfortunately had a few teens using foul language and mistreating the equipment. Otherwise, a fantastic place for a lovely bistro meal.

Well, first of all the two girls running the orders counter on a Friday night thought chatting and laughing was more fun than taking orders. Second, I asked if the chips on the meal i ordered could be swapped with a side of veg dish but was told no so I had to say no chips then just salad and order a side of veg separately for $9 😬 When meal arrived to my surprise there was no salad but instead a plate full of borderline cold vegetables along with the extra side of veg on a separate plate had to pay for 🤔 Lastly the sparkling water bottle the bar gave me had somehow leaked and was as flat as tap water. What a disappointing place.

Kids play area is next level. There was a guy doing magic tricks and other stuff that required active participation from the kids (chase bubbles, catch thrown objects, etc.) I'm not a fan of claw machines but there is plenty there that doesn't involve kids begging parents for money. Highly recommended. We will be going again.

Got the vegan tofu stew. Was very impressed with the serving size and flavour. Could have been a little bit more spicy but was still nice. Loved the texture of the vegan mince. So good!

I’m not sure how anyone could possibly say the food was good here! I’ve never had such bland food in my entire life! The pumpkin risotto was disgusting! The kids grilled fish and chips were cold & inedible. The steak was still mooing! The salad wasn’t even nice. Green tomatoes and a crap dressing. Now my partner feels ill from the chicken Parma

Nice venue and standard food. Was good for a suburban local that had all round great customer service! Pity this has been lost. In this game poor customer service is the start of the demise. Hope Zagames can rescue and restore before it is too late. Would be nice to have the nicely run venue back!

Service was fine and water was available to help yourself to. I was a little disappointed in my meal, the kangaroo fillet. I thought the portion size was a bit small, only two thin strips of kangaroo meat, plus the food was not hot enough and a bit too salty. The pasta carbonara was great, and it was piping hot, but the chicken parma was also a bit lukewarm.

Chicken parmigiana was delicious and chicken cooked to perfection
Chips were beer battered and yummy! However chips underneath chicken parmigiana
Salad also delicious
4.5 stars

Spacious, family friendly, large and nice kids play area! Free face painting on the Saturday night we went. Food quality is good and in large portions too.
Highlight - staff are super friendly and helpful!
$5 kids meal incl drink

This place is great to catch up with family who has kids, great play area for them to roam around in. The food has become better over the years with a higher standard. Chicken Parma from here is always my go to meal that never dissapoints :)
The Biker Foodie
Great staff, very welcoming and hard working. The food is cooked well enough but doesn't stand out as anything other than standard fare. Good dessert selection.
Excellent venue for kids - a separate indoor play area for the young-uns while mum and dad have a meal

Had dinner for my friends daughters birthday with my 2 young children. Meals came out fast so that was a positive. I ordered the maple pumpkin salad. The menu described it as having israeli cous cous, quinoa, roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds, sauted kale, dried cranberries, cashew nuts and a citrus dressing.
Started eating it and it was so bland, added salt and pepper and chuffed on as i was trying to wrestle 2 kids at the same time. It was only after I finished that i noticed it was missing the roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds, the dried cranberries and cashew nuts. Explains why i had to drown it in salt and pepper. i mentioned to one of the waiters what had happened and he checked with the kitchen, came back and said yes it was missing and would i like all those elements now. i said no, i was full. They then offered coffee and cake and i again said no thank you im full. i suggested perhap some of the cost should be taken off so he went and got the manager David. David said i would have to pay full price as i already ate most of the meal. apparently when i found myself throwing on the salt and pepper i should have known what was missing. i didnt notice, i was trying to scoff my food while my youngest had a sensory meltdown. David then said that i could have just eaten all the topping and that because i didnt notice sooner i had to pay full price. Really disappointing customer service. really poor behaviour on the managers part to basically accuse me of trying to get a free meal. if i wanted a free meal it wouldnt be a bowl of pumpkin and kale

We have always heard Zagames over the radio but never really thought of going until we recently received a gift voucher to dine at Zagames Boronia. First impression was that the venue was really big, had a kids playground and located next to sports bar and a TAB. Very little service received as it was a counter order and self serve for drinks. Food were overly pricey and very limited to choose from. Despite the price, the food was generally delicious and good portions. The chicken mignon was lovely stuffed with mushrooms, ricotta, spinach and wrapped with bacon accompanied with potato swirls and caramelised onion and creamy mushroom sauce. The rib eye was quite average, medium rare cooked served with salad and chips. The pork ribs were well cooked, very soft and served with special bbq sauce accompanied with roasted potatoes and coleslaw. Would recommend the chicken mignon out of all dishes. Overall, I would say Zagames is a local family restaurant, great place if you have kids, as they can play in the big playground and enjoy their own little kids meal.
Samfinlay23
Overall nice meal and god enough quality. Ambiance not so great but for a lunch or a few drinks and even just a simple family dinner it’s good, food is nice. But don’t come on a busy day just because of how long it takes the food to come out or if you still want it come just allow 1 hour to 1.5 hours for your food to come out.

We've been back a few times now and food is consistently excellent. Kids love the playground and good value on meals. Service though is exceptional. Nothing too difficult and all staff seemed very friendly on a hectic Sat night. I will say it gets quite loud in there but that's to be expected with the number of people.

Excellent foods and service , the food always delicious~ I've been here many times, we will definitely come back again~ friendly staff !!!!!

Amazingly laid out at the the corner, great seating options available for different age groups !
Parking is available the back and in the side street so that was handy.
Value for money and good quality food. Breakfast options are limited but servings are generous so would not mind limited menu list :-)
Sc
Sorry, too loud for me & expensive, but service has been good. Food ok depending what you eat. Probably fine if you have kids as there's a big playground

***UPDATE***Dined here again and had a better experience! The salt on the tables has been changed to gluten free and my meal was lovely! Would love to see a garlic butter with the steaks? Review has been changed from 2.5 to 3.5.
I was excited to come here tonight as the gluten free menu is quite extensive compared to other places in the area, and i knew they cooked the GF food separately. Left feeling a bit disappointed.Highlights: My cocktail was delicious and the chips were crunchy!Lowlights: Husbands steak was bloody (He ordered medium), the GF garlic and cheese pizza was doughy, and my fish was bland - I couldn't even have the salt as the salt at the table states 'may contain gluten' and when i asked at the counter they didn't have any other salt (To their credit - they were lovely and quite thorough in checking things for me!) The fish was actually cooked great, but would be awesome with some flavour (why are we afraid of herbs and spices?)That being said, we may eat here again. It wouldn't be my first choice, but it's close to home and it's nice to have a bit of variety!

I was quite surprised with the food here. As far as pub fare goes it's pretty good. Had the chilli mussels and couldn't really complain. The other meals looked alright too and were reasonably priced. Better than most of the other pubs in the area. Nice inside also. Will be back.

Zagames you have stepped up your game. Really surprised because I was so reluctant to eat here after the copious amount of times I have not enjoyed the food. I ordered the spaghetti bolognaise which was tasty. The menu probably could take at least 4 dollars off each item because it's on the expensive side. I wouldn't mind paying the dollars if the service wasn't so poor. Waiters forgetting to bring food to the table and having to wait 5 minutes at the counter poking around for someone to seat us is actually just annoying. Apart from that pleasantly surprised

06 Aug 2016: Came here first time with family. Had latte and sweet (Please see photos). Incredibly yummy. The place was huge. Was told it is normally jam-packed. Ambience was great.
Alex Watson
Change of management, restaurant went from good to very poor management. No more free children's drink or desert. Bookings over 30 people require $100 deposit. If 5 people dont order a main meal, deposit lost. This will definitely be our last booking here. Overpriced and average meals, bar selection boring... kids play area good.
Systemico
Verrry average low quality food for an unreasonable price. I had the chicken parma ($26) and it was small, bland, minimal fries and a pathetic tasteless salad. Also had a ham and cheese pizza with added prawns ($22), and the pumkin ricotta cannelloni ($15). Photos attached below. I can't believe how expensive it was for what food we got. The only good points were that the staff were nice and they had a kids play area. There are so many nice restaurants around... don't waste your money here.
Andrew Watkins
Seriously I don't like to bag places but Zagame's of Boronia have hit rock bottom and I just don't think they care.
We had the worst meal, it cost over $180 for our small group food was tasteless...pizza under cooked and so overpriced .it's laughable ..won't be back .very disappointing, would give it half star if we could. Management need to listen to customers and lift their game cause what they are offering now is scandalous!!!!
Shaun Coffey
I couldn't more strongly recommend not wasting your money here. They've gradually reduced the menu down to seemily cut costs wherever possible. Every visit has been worse than the last - not that it was worth the over blown pricing to begin with! Below average food and service. If only there was an option to rate them zero..
GoodFood4Me
Too big. Too noisy. Too expensive. Food plain, boring.... Very average. The service was inadequate. There is a lack of parking. Won't be back.

We had an enjoyable Mother's Day lunch.
Thank you and well done :)

Barely edible food and so overpriced it's a laugh (on you). We have dear friends who for some reason I cannot reconcile against their otherwise good judgement continue to set this venue as a mid-way meeting point for a meal between our two families. At the risk of a falling out... I'm just not going to spend the $150+ for 2 adults and 2 kids (under 5) for what amounts to bland, dry, uninspired and flavourless food (discounting salt and tomato paste). This is the experience of 4 attendances talking...between my wife and I we exhausted the menu with 8 combinations of meals looking for that one thing they did that somehow made it worthwhile. They don't. It's a big pokies venue with a very good play area kids (hmmmmmm- something in that I'm sure...) that happens to parade as a family restaurant but it simply is not. It is appalling value with all meals well overpriced to any decent pub.... and that's the problem- there are so many great pubs around Melbourne that can turn out a menu that probably looks identical to that at this establishment except it tastes good.. Don't waste your hard earned money.. if you want a nice family(s) night out this is not it. ps- They couldn't even get a parma right! cold soggy chips in a mini deep-fry basket and a parma so dry it had to be torn apart rather than cut... yuck!
AJayne210
Not great. What's with the food arriving cold? Noticed another few reviewers had the same prob. Only waited 15mins for pasta so thought it would be very hot, rest of table's food not hot either. Very overpriced for what you get. I wasn't expecting much but won't be back.

Best night out with the family. We went to Zagames Boronia last saturday night for the first time and were really impressed. Even though it was a really busy night we were still made to feel well looked after and the food was the best we have had in the area to date. We were amazed with how friendly the staff were from when we got there to when we left. Would definitely recommend Zagames Boronia to all our friends and family.
Briehayes28
Disgusting food and so overpriced. Went there last night for dinner, all four steaks ordered were cold and not the steak we had ordered, the small handful of chips were cold, the garlic prawns had no flavour, were cold and there was too much rice, the barramundi was not barramundi and was full of bones. Not to mention the two kids meals that came out AFTER the adult meals and were also stone cold. All up costing almost $300 and when we complained we were told "sorry but there's nothing we can do now, next time say something straight away" I'm sorry but there will definitely not be a next time. Truly disgusted with the service and food.

Very clean with great service and nice food!. Great atmosphere as a family restaurant!

We chose to go on a Saturday night with the family and our baby. As expected, it was packed with lots of children everywhere who were obviously enjoying themselves and all gleaming with the prospect of going to the massive indoor playground (Kids World) as they walked in the door.

The service certainly impressed us with the Manager greeting us at the door and constantly on the floor looking over his staff. The staff were all very lovely also. The food was very pleasant and at reasonable prices. Between the four of us we had aranchini balls, calamari, bruschetta, garlic bread, apple crumble and chocolate mousse.

The new refurbishment has certainly changed the look and feel of the restaurant and brought it up to date with modern fittings and interiors, great parents facilities with the parents room and amazing large indoor playground.

Thank you for a nice dining experience, we will certainly be coming back!

Truly awful food at sky high prices. Went for dinner at Zagame's Boronia, we haven't been since the renovations, so wanted to try it. Service was good. Decor was lovely. Food was awful. The salmon fillet was about the size of a big thumb and the veggies were overcooked and seriously over priced at nearly $30. The tempura calamari was not tempura but crumbed/beer battered and deep fried. The salad was drowned in dressing and the chips were brown and soggy. Again, seriously over priced at nearly $30. I will not be going back.

Lovely night eating out. Last evening, our family dined at Zagames Boronia. We were shown to our seat from a lovely guy (Cameron), who asked about our Christmas etc and who actually seemed to genuinely care. I am anaphylactic and my situation was explained to the chef and he ensured my food would be safe for me to eat with no extra bother to him. (This has sometimes be a problem for other chefs) our meal was served fairly promptly, presented well and everyone's food was tasty. My daughter said her vegetables were cooked to perfection. My husband enjoyed a Parma and chips and my fussy son ate his pizza. My dinner was delicious. I enjoyed every mouthful; I don't get to eat out as often as I would like , as being allergic to fish, (even the smell starts a reaction) causes anxiety to myself and my teenage kids. Although there was not an extensive on menu, we all managed to find something to our liking which tasted good. The staff who cleared our table were pleasant and friendly and in fact, the friendliness of the staff was outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to Zagames boronia. It was a Monday night, busy not noisy at all.

Worst Caesar salad ever. Wanted something light for dinner
So I order a Caesar with some chicken
It came out with runny boiled egg ? not poached. (caged eggs not free range ) chicken tenderloins were still pink in middle and outside didn't look like it touched a grill.
Lettuce was iceberg even though the menu states coz lettuce. prosciutto was cooked well but tasted horrible not much smokey flavour and not salty. Dressing was thick and tasteless and no parmesan. Cheap and nasty produce! Thanks for the twenty three dollar bowl of iceberg Lettuce .

Pleasantly surprised. After reading reviews on Urban spoon I was not looking forward to a family dinner here. However we were pleasantly surprised. It's not fine dining but the food was reasonable prices ok and staff lovely. Most importantly you could relax as it is a big space and the kids were occupied with the playground.

Not a bad night. Went to zagames to see it out, hadnt been there before.
Pros: Was very busy when we entered but the front of house staff, were trying to be as accomodating as they could. Kids loved the Kidsworld and it was a great venue for families, considering the playground and the very cheap kids meals. Staff were very friendly and professional, Steph at the counter was excellent with our meals really positive and approachable, and Decklan in the bar was great with our kids when they chose desserts and helped us get drinks. Wedges were great.
Cons: Calamari tasted like rubber, was probably the worst calamari i have had. The venue was a bit loud, but you get that with kids, service was a bit slow aswell. Would like more table service

The staff make the difference at the venue and will hopefully be back

Poor service, poor quality, lack of process or control and insufficent or incompetent staff / managers. This is the first time I've ever gone to the extent of writing a comment about a venue, but last night just got to me!
I and 10 of my extended family went to celebrate a birthday at this venue on a Wednesday night. Upon arrival at just after 7pm there were queues of people lined up to order meals and get drinks in the restaurant (if that is what it is suppose to be called). After lining up at 7.20pm and placing orders on 3 accounts for the one table the meals started coming out at, by 8.15pm 8 of the 11 meals arrived. By 8.30pm it was clear the remaining 3 meals were not coming out, which I found strange given that there was 1 meal from each of the three accounts missing. After complaining to the staff we were given our money back for the 3 meals, which eventually came out at 8.45pm! They really shouldn't have bothered! The calamari was like rubber with luke warm chips ($24), the porterhouse 300grm steak ($32) was 25% fat & grissle, with the parma "just" making the grade. There are much better venues in the area offering better service, quality and value for money and I will not be going to this venue ever again and suggest neither will my family and friends!

Great meal and service (always great here). Enjoyed a great meal earlier this week with the floor staff very helpful and friendly.
Garlic pizza is always 'to die for'

Indian curry was great.. Went to Zagames last night for a birthday dinner with family. Place was just about empty which was really a surprise for 6pm on a Friday night. So needless to say there were no long queues. They've added a mild indian curry to the menu which was gorgeous, although the serving could have been a bit bigger. It had filled up a lot more by the end of our meal. I guess if you get there right on 6pm you'll avoid the rush.

The calamari salad was superb
Great service and clean venue
Defiantly go back

Absolute disgrace. Havnt been to zagames in years and now I remember why the steak order was ment to be a 500gm t-bone steak it would have been lucky to have been 250gm it came out as thin as a bit of cardboard and to be charged $35 for this dish id rather go to mc donalds the meal was disgusting service was poor.. the salad was something that looked like it had be made 2 days ago.. my partner had there signature dish of duck ravioli 5 bits small ravioli came out for a meal worth $27 dollars is a joke.. we left unhappy and hungry we will never return to this venue ever again and recommend people thinking about going to zagames to seriously re think it n go else where.

Decent family restaurant. Went to zagmaes boronia for mothers day yesterday. Amazing! For such a busy place, the staff were so friendly and the food was awesome. Highly recommend the place for everyone!

Loved it!. Took my family to Zagamees Boronia for dinner and absolutely loved it. All our meals came out super fast and were great. I had the chicken parma and it was the best i've had in ages and the staff were really friendly and happy to help. My girls especially loved the playground and the friendly bar tenders who helped with desserts etc. We will be back.

This is a gem of a place. Great for kids but the stand out was the winderful service. Without exception the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The food was delicious as well.

Jason. Management seem to point the finger and completely lack in leading by example, I noticed this whilst waiting for my salad which took over 20 minutes to get to my table, I mean toss some leaves together and wallah there is your salad.

Staff seemed over worked and depressed when not dealing with customers. Tall boy in bar seemed nice and happy though, as did the girl with bright red hair. All in all this place is average.
Rio B
Very bad!!. Had a disgusting experience at this place! Will never go here again!!! Value-for-money is so not worth it and a very dissatisfying customer service! Definitely will never recommend this place to my friends/family! What a disgusting place to be in!!!
Meadowsfamily
Terrible. Worst food, overpriced, horrible service. Haven't eaten in worse than this place in many years. Wouldn't return if it was free.

Surprisingly good food for a family bistro. Pros: we ordered their most expensive steak and seafood platter- steak was nicely chargrilled and tasty, platter was fried just right and surprisingly also fresh. Cons: low initiative from the staff, inconsistent- some friendly (the food runner) and some on the apathetic side (the cashier/bar staff). I suppose its like anywhere else. Wir: probably.. just have to put up with that staff issue.
Vicki Hughes
Had enough. I meet my sister here once a month. Convenient location. Standard of meals pot luck. Sick of very chewy steaks. Last night I ordered Barramundi. Overcooked and dry and by the time I found three big bones in it I gave up. Both our plates were hardly touched and the waitress apparently new better than to ask if we enjoyed our meals. Never again.
CB
Meals took an hour to come out, were overpriced and pretty standard fare. Staff were a mixture of helpful youth and some others who didn't seem interested. No compelling reason to return.

Great first impression. I have been sent a $100 voucher from Zagames Hotel to welcome me to the area which I thought it was really thoughtful, so I went there on Thursday with some friends. I must say the food was exceptional. I was impressed with the service and how friendly everyone was.
I had the seafood platter and my wife had the calamari salad, we were very happy with our meals. Our friends had Chicken Parma and they said it’s the best they had in years.
We had an amazing time .
Jeanette Fisher
Slow and bad service. Slow, bad, unfriendly service. The bar staff don't even know how to poor a beer or lemonade. Had to wait one hour wait for Luke warm dinner on a Wednesday night. God knows whats happens on a Saturday night? Head Chef/Supervisor is extremely rude.

Don't bother, meals are not cheap, but their service is. The food is also very oily. Recommend you look elsewhere.
Audrey
Ruined my birthday. Was so excited to receive a voucher but I will be telling the business I got the voucher of that they should give someone else the business. The staff were rude except for two. The food was ordinary and they take your plate away without asking if you are finished. Never ever going there again.
Monique
No thankyou, it's just pathetic.
wait staff are rude, and way over priced.
Nicky French
Hmmmm. I went there recently for a party. got to say, not my cup of tea as i had to drive a fair distance to get there (from southern coastal suburbs). but it was for a friend of my partners.

the host of the party raved about the venue. i saw the kids playground which looked good. bright and colourful that would be attractive to kids or clergymen.

finger food was provided which didnt look too appetising. The usual stuff, pies, dim sims etc. But I ate some, and to be fair you dont expect gourmet food at a childs party.

TO my surprise drinks were not included, so I made my way to the bar and ordered some coldies. the bar girl was friendly and very easy on the eye (cant remember her name but she mentioned she had 3 kids). I think she would be around 25 odd years old. Very attentive and loved a chat. But she moved on from me when she saw some guys over 6 foot and athletic walked in. so i went to the tab and watched the footy.

Overall a 5/10. Some of the patrons in the pokies were pretty feral. The bar should practice responsible alcohol serving.
Brett Clarke
Love it here. Great family venue, great venue for gatherings. Food is always of a great standard, very reasonably priced and never a long wait!!!
Yummy Mummy
So disappointed in our meals that we ordered. The seafood platter was mostly in edible with overcooked calamari that had a horrible after taste and the Morton bay bug was clearly defrosted and perhaps even refrozen then defrosted again. Most of the meal went untouched. Pizza was ok but very over priced and nothing flash. Won't be back.
Belinda
Hmm.. probably won't be back again.. Went to Zagame's Boronia for a late sunday lunch. The waitress that served us was relatively pleasant and professional and instructed us how to order food and drinks since we've never been. The food came out pretty quickly which is good. The only issue I have with the food is the amount of oil in it. We got some bruschetta as starters, the flavours were nice, but the bread was absolutely drenched in oil and there was a decent layer of oil at the bottom of the plate. I think the chef has took Jamie Oliver's cooking tips a little too close to their heart. My partner's seafood platter was just as drenched in oil, especially the salad. My salmon was ok. The salad that accompanied it was actually really nice but the serve of rice was TINY.
By the end of the meal we both felt kinda sick with the amount of oil consumed.

Bottom line is, please hold back the oil. I know it makes food tastes better generally but half a bottle in a dish is really too much!
B_boy
The kids playroom is great, but.... Had a sunday lunch with friends. Meals took a long time and were average. Very loud and open atmosphere. Was child friendly but there is better family venues around. Unless you are playing the pokies i wouldnt bother
James Cole
I have to say I wasn't expecting great things from Zagames. I went with my partner purely because we had a voucher giving us one free main meal. I have to say I was more than pleasantly surprised with how good the food was.
We shared a Mega steak and a chicken parma, which I guess are standards for these kid of bistros. The steak was good but the parmigiana was superb and both were great serving sizes for the family friendly prices. For dessert my partner had the lemon meringue tart and I had the chocolate caramel tart. Both were awesome!
The atmosphere was a little noisy but I guess that's to be expected in a family resteraunt.
We will definitely be heading back there soon, with or without a voucher.
Not That Fussy
Overpriced pokie venue

It must be hard to pump out meals for the hundreds of people that would have dined there this evening, but by having a large capacity you must also be able to make sure that the standard doesn't drop and that you can cater for everyone.
