Review Jarmers Kitchen - Bowden

If you love veal schnitzel then this is the place to go to! Perfectly crumbed and cooked and not oily. We'll be going back again soon! Great service and friendly staff. Big thanks to Cynthia 😃

We were here to celebrate a friend's birthday. It's always great to go somewhere new. Cindy the host was fantastic. Hard working and very organised. The interior of the restaurant is very nice. Corkage is $20- The menu was very strange. All over the place. I was looking forward to the pasta, but it was extremely average. At $35- there is no way that it should have been average. Arancini balls were fantastic. Gnocchi was good. We had a nice evening. But I wouldn't return. The menu is a strange mix.

Went for dinner on a Wednesday night. The service was extremely good and was pleased to see many chefs in the kitchen. Food came out much faster then anticipated. The food is simply yet full of flavour. It is obvious that the restaurant only used quality ingredients which simply adds to the high-end experience. Can't wait to go again.

The food was excellent the service was excellent to, the cost was a bit over the top for me at $55 for the cheapest steak meal, I'm not sure why it was cut in half for me when it was no more than 1cm thick and came with 5 green beans and 3 roast potatoes, I could have got better from a local pub for $20 to $35

I’ve ordered home delivery from Jarmer’s Kitchen a few times via Uber Eats and it’s always excellent. They’re fast and reliable, food quality is excellent and consistent. Best authentic Austrian schnitzels and accompanying potato, cucumber salads. I’ve had a couple of their curries too which are just delicious. House made Vanilla Slice is yummy and delicate flavours, without being overly sweet. Prices are fair, generous portions, fresh, tasty. Highly recommend! Thank You Jarmer’s Kitchen 🙏 • Side note: I always use the Uber Eats priority delivery option to ensure my food temperature is good on arrival, & this ensures that the drivers aren’t stopping at other locations prior to my home.

The service was fast, attentive and efficient, which was great for a pre concert dinner. Enjoyed the dishes, desserts didn’t disappoint. Spacious and relaxed bistro type setting.

Wow, the food I brilliant, decor relaxed, a broad menu and staff who are attentive (Cynthia) and various style foods from different regions in the World 🌎

Went for lunch last week, it was really delightful. We had the truffle gnocchi which was perfectly soft and pillowy. We also had the sides of Mac and cheese, yum! And broccolini with lemon and almonds - they were nice but slightly on the oily side. The salt and pepper squid was a daily special item and was only okay. Everything else was delicious and I would come back for!

Exceptional quality food today, burger, curry, pizzas and kid meals. The staff were warm & friendly, and accommodating of any request, even paying seperate as a group. We'll be back!!!

Great local food and; amazing experience to dine in.

Jarmer's Kitchen is still serving great food. We grabbed a tamarind duck curry, a veal schnitzel (a proper one, not a pub schnitzel) and couldn't resist the heat n eat slow cooked brisket with Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. The duck fell off the bone, the veal schnitzel was perfect and the brisket Mac n cheese was the ultimate comfort food for a rainy Friday night.

First time here. I selected a lunch meal from the specials menu. Picked the hoisin pork ribs. Was surprised that they did not come with a side. Ribs were a little on the dry side however the sticky sauce really helped overlook this. I tried their house fries... have to say these were fantastic and I could have polished off another full serve.
AndreaB
Really disappointed with my chicken schnitzel. It was dry - I had to ask for some gravy...I think it was a beef based gravy (I can’t eat red meat so it wasn’t really appealing) The chips were crinkle-cut (I am thinking the frozen kind). Overall fairly disappointing! <br/><br/>The staff were great - nothing was too much bother - cannot praise them enough.<br/><br/>I used to frequent Jarmers for brekky a lot - would not be back for lunch again.

I love Jarmer's Kitchen it has good food and a good selection of drinks. It is a really good restaurant to dine at. I love every thing from there menus to the freshly squeezed Juice.

Really, really good food and service. Recommend the chef’s starter, the mushroom pizza rocks! And the Coopers sessional - was, well, different in a surprising way. The steak of the day was more than expected in quality, freshness and flavour. This place exceeded all expectations. <br/>

It was nice but nothing out of the usual breakfast fare you can get anywhere. Is it table service only for the main order? once that was taken we never saw another server. had to go up to the bar for more water, for more coffees, for more drinks. It wasn't busy at the time we were there either. Staff were pleasant sure, but didn't go out of their way to give the patrons anything 'extra'. And they were noisy doing their chores - it's almost as if they weren't aware customers were sitting there. Maybe it was an off day but we expected more from the Jarmer's name and legacy. Oh, and BTW, when people are out on Remembrance Day, we rely on the establishment we are in to lead the 1 minute silence but your staff just kept on working - were there no supervisors rostered on? Kind of disappointing.

Jarmer’s Kitchen is a favourite and it consistently delivers. Great for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a good function! The staff are lovely and attentive, and the food just YUM! I’d highly recommend it ❤️

Came before dinner service was available, staff served us drinks and told us orders will be taken at 5 o'clock. Came out at exactly 5. Staff was extremely friendly no sign of frustration to any queries we had. Recommendations were provided. Didn't have to wait long for the food. Food was exquisite, staff asked if we needed anything else. Been here twice now and love it, usually wouldn't give a 5/5 but there was nothing that didn't please me.<br/><br/>Service: Excellent <br/>Food: Excellent<br/>Location and parking: Excellent<br/>Price: $$$ good price for good food<br/>Cleanliness: Excellent<br/>Atmosphere/Ambiance: Excellent

I found the food excellent but the service terrible. I had a party of seniors we were advised of the specials and despite what we were told the meal did not come with chips. No big deal but the restaurant wanted to argue with each pensior over paying for chips. Very bad form. The meal too ages to deliver. Will not go again.

SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER<br/>You can get your fee reimbursed if you park in the adjacent car park.<br/>The open kitchen is heartening. <br/>Quick & friendly service in a light & airy room.<br/>There is a specials board.<br/>I had a refreshing mojito cocktail to start.<br/>A lot of dishes on the menu were tempting but we all ordered from the burger menu & all were very satisfying. Buttermilk fried chicken, wagyu beef & brisket. All served with skin-on chips.<br/>My husband said it was the best chicken burger he's ever had.<br/>When they were brought to our table, we were offered tomato or bbq sauce - no need to remember to ask. We were also brought some mayo - everything is better with mayo.<br/>Cakes were taken away.<br/>I would be happy to come back again.

Great friendly service but easily the most disappointing food in Adelaide. As a local I've wanted this place to be good, but I've repeatedly been overly disappointed with every meal I've had over an extended period of three years so much so that I now refuse to go back. Avoid at all costs.

Jarmer’s has been on my Foodie list for a while now, so I randomly popped in for some breakfast. <br/><br/>My first thought reading the menu, was, mmmm pretty boring. Please, don’t get me wrong, I love my usual staple breakfasts, but when I head out, I like to see more interesting menu items and ideas that I probably wouldn’t do at home.<br/><br/>I found one interesting item on the menu, so went for that one! Duck croquettes with poached eggs and confit onions.<br/><br/>Whilst I was waiting for my brekky, I perused the room and the specials boards and thought that something just didn’t match? This is quite a casual place, casual furnishings, casual staff and a casual name, Jarmer’s Kitchen, the prices do not match. Breakfast prices are okay, but I am finding around Adelaide they are really getting up there and they don’t need to be (in particular, the price of the sides). The specials board had the lunch/dinner menu on it, which was quite ordinary and very pricy for a casual café. Personally, I would not return for lunch/dinner at those prices, I would rather head elsewhere like Windy Point Café, a step up or two, with the same prices. <br/><br/>Back to breakfast! My duck and eggs dish was fairly uneventful and severely lacking in seasoning, the filling didn’t seem to be the colour or flavour of duck meat, so not sure on that one, I could be wrong. The eggs were poached perfectly and the dish was nice enough, just needed some more punch in the croquettes. There was also the addition of confit onion, which was super sweet, too sweet.  Coffee was okay, little bit bitter for my liking. <br/><br/>Note: One of my absolute favourite places for breakfast is, The Auction Rooms in North Melbourne, an ever changing and always interesting menu with excellent prices. Fabulous. <br/><br/>Not sure if I would return, maybe if the menu was updated with more interesting fare.<br/><br/>Thanks Team!

I am giving this 1/10 only because there is no option to leave a zero score.<br/><br/>We went to Jarmer's on a Saturday night before having to head to a show at the entertainment centre. Upon booking we made the staff aware that we had a time frame and that we would not attend if we could no be served in time. They assured us that this would not be a problem. <br/><br/>We arrived half an hour before our booking time just to be sure and were seated out the back of the restaurant in an area that more clearly resemble a community hall than a restaurant. There were barely any furnishings or decor and it was so loud I felt like I was back in an assembly in primary school.<br/><br/>We were clearly forgotten about once seated and proceeded to wait 25 minutes until our order was taken (which we had to chase up to happen).<br/>After over an hour of waiting and with our show about 20 minutes away we asked about our meals (again) and were told they would be our straight away. Two meals then came out which were luke-warm, the others on our table had to wait another 5 to 10 minutes to get theirs. <br/><br/>There is not much I can say about the meal itself as it is hard to enjoy a meal that has to be swallowed in under 10 minutes. Suffice to say it's pretty much over priced pub food with nothing special or particularly tasty about it.<br/><br/>We ended up bolting our food down and rushing out, even payment was a delayed process as they could not find the Eftpos machine and even though they knew we were in a hurry did not go to any real lengths to find it.<br/><br/>I can appreciate that the restaurant was full and that most of the people there were in there for the same reason, to eat and get to a show, but this is a perfect example of a place that values profit over it's clientele. They have clearly just shoved as many more tables into the sparse back area as possible but nothing has been done to make sure the kitchen can keep up.<br/><br/>I feel for the wait staff as they were doing their best, but the sheer lack of organisation from who ever was overseeing the tables made it near impossible for anything to be done correctly or in a timely manner. <br/><br/>My advice is, if you are in a hurry or are going to a show, pick somewhere else to eat. If you are not in a hurry and are happy to pay a premium for a step above pub fare, this is the place to go.
Dieter
I stumbled on this place by accident. From the get go the place looked the goods, is simple yet stylish on the inside. The wait staff were great too, the full table service is a bonus. Blt on fresh roll, bacon cooked perfect no excess oil. The pastries in the cabinet look magnificent, will have to try the vanilla slice next time
Food Critic
The prices are terrible for the quality of food served. <br/>Stay away from the fried bread, it's oily, overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside. <br/>As for the Arincini balls, they are bland and unsalted. <br/>The steak was $38 but the cut was full of fat and drenched in what I can only hope was a very watered down Worcester sauce and smeared with some sort of vinegary yellow sauce. <br/>Both of which were terrible.

Worst breakfast I've had in a long time. We have recently moved to the area and heard good things about Jarmers so decided to give it a go. Unfortunately the service was lacking but More importantly the food was over priced and bland. I ordered the eggs Benedict special which came out on one tip top muffin cut in half which cost me $20. My partner got the bacon and egg roll...which literally only contained bacon and egg? No relish, spinach anything. Also the coffee was burnt. I left half my meal and all of my coffee and nobody bothered to ask if everything was ok.<br/>Super disappointed, we will be sticking to other local places that are reliable like red house and hawker st cafe.

We attended for Mother's Day brunch, obviously a very busy day. I had a booking for 6 and had pre-paid a deposit also. Booking was for 10am, food took quite some time to come out and walk in tables we're getting served before us regardless of the fact that we had a booking and had paid a deposit. <br/>Staff were flustered and seemed unable to cope with the amount of customers. <br/>Serves we're small and there were unfortunately so substitutes but additional items could be added. My Dad and brother were particularly disappointed as they got measly serves of bacon.<br/>The OJ was bitter and pulpy. I had the pancakes with berries which was delicious but again the serve was small.<br/>Ideal place for a girls catch up or a causal couples date but I wouldn't go back there with my family or on a busy day like Mother's Day.

We went to Jarmer's for Mother's Day brunch and were very disappointed. It took forever to get our drinks (coffee, tea and juice). Had to follow up on juice for one of the kids and have to say the waitress wasn't very helpful. Food took over an hour to arrive and not all the food came at once so some were eating while others were waiting. Food went cold quickly and was fairly average. We were also out the back in a huge room of 100 or more people. The noise was terrible, we could hardly hear each other talk. This was my first visit to Jarmer's and I won't be going again.
Jessica Engleson
Booked in at 12.30pm for Mother's Day lunch, to give the mums the day off, but obviously the owner/manager wanted to take as many bookings as they could without thinking about how they could cater for everyone in a reasonable time....waited 3 hours for a couple of entree's, we had to leave without mains. Some staff were rude or didn't seem bothered or avoided eye contact. Absolutely disappointing and wasted afternoon. If I could give zero star rating I would but had to do a minimum 1.
Aron Zain Willington
Booked a table at 12.30pm. Received entree 2.02pm. Currently 2.50pm and no sign of main course (I seem to have a different interpretation of 'soon'). <br/>My advice if considering this joint on a busy day such as Mother's Day. Don't.

Very average food, ordered Chicken Asian Salad and not  only was it very bland tasting but the 'chicken' was mince chicken which you could hardly see let alone taste.

Jarmer’s Kitchen is a casual and stylish cafe located in the up and coming development suburb of Bowden. The place is gorgeous and beautifully styled in a plantation design with white walls, wooden furniture and fresh greenery. My weak mocha tasted nice. The balance of coffee and chocolate was good. The milk needed a little more steaming as it was lacking in texture.
Andy Vo
We ordered the gnocchi and crab linguine and both were extremely disappointing. Both dishes were extremely salty and tasted like 'old' pasta, not worth its price. Not sure if we came in on a bad day.<br/>Service and interior were nice though.

I like Jarmer’s Kitchen, I like it a lot. It’s “a casual eatery celebrating family, friends and food” and it’s open every day serving breakfast and lunch and dinners (dinners Monday-Saturday). I’ve only been for lunch, but parking’s easy, it’s close to where I work, it’s relaxed and it’s the sort of place you can take anyone because the menu offers such variety.

Really fresh and great quality ingredients. I tried the Sashimi with soba noodles and ponzu dressing ($19) and the Rocket & pear salad ($9). The sashimi I received appeared to be kingfish. The serving was decent, with 10 slices of fish and a small mound of soba noodles. The dish was very light and refreshing, thanks to the extremely fresh ingredients and tangy citrus dressing. I usually don't like kingfish sashimi that much, but this one was an exception because it was extremely tasty! My only gripe with the dish is that the soba is mixed with salad leaves, which resulted in the oddest mix of textures. I would've preferred them separately.<br/><br/>The kingfish was lovely, but I absolutely loved the Rocket & pear salad. It was an excellent rendition of the classic dish and while the minimal ingredients made it rather susceptible of being unexciting, the salad was anything but. The pear was shaved super thinly and gave the dish a lovely natural sweetness that paired very well with its light, sticky dressing. I felt like this salad had the perfect rocket to pear to parmesan ratio; the flavours and textures were so well balanced.<br/><br/>All in all a very enjoyable meal. Since I ordered delivery I can't really comment on the service, but if the quality of service is on par with its food then I will be very happy to return.

A nice spot. We shared the porcini arancini, a Lebanese flat bread (forgot the name) was so crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. All food was really tasty and came out quickly. Will certainly be trying out this little spot again.

Jarmer's is lovely and it's honest. It's not pretending to be anything other than quite a modern family based casual dining kitchen.<br/>STARTERS:<br/>Had air chips & porcini arancini.<br/>As a previous frequent of Chris Jarmer's 'Air' restaurant that used to exist inside David Jones I have missed the air chip, just as I have missed Air.<br/>The arancini were gloriously crispy, gloriously mushroomy, & went nicely with the bitter micro greens on top.<br/>MAINS<br/>I had a steak and yum I was pleased. The sign of a great place is a classically cooked steak. Steak was beautiful, jus was yum. Shared the pear & Parmesan salad on the side & I was so pleased with the heavy handedness with the pear and Parmesan- so often you order this and it's just a bucket of rocket- not here.<br/>DESSERT<br/>I had the vanilla slice.<br/>First of all its HUGE.<br/>Second of all the pastry is home made. Does it get better???????? (No). Custard was vanilla beany & appropriately textured.<br/>A nice choice for a casual dinner.

Decided to come here with the family after lunch to have coffees and desserts. Sat inside and made the decision for our orders. The manager working there there took our order. Im not one to give bad reviews, unless something needed to be pointed out. However, we weren't greeted - no hello, no smile and definitely looked like he was not impressed by our orders of coffees and desserts. Mind you, each of us had coffees and desserts, even though our cheque still came to $43. The other wait staff working were quite pleasant and friendly. The manager working that day/shift should lead by example. Don't think the chef/owner would be very impressed....Tsk tsk tsk 😏

Lovely staff, nice looking venue, and decent breakfast. I chose the 'Mushrooms on Toast', and my friend opted for 'Avo + Eggs'. Both meals were pleasant, but then it's hard to go wrong with classic combos like these. The only thing this place doesn't have going for it is the location.

In the beautiful suburb of Bowden is a cafe called Jarmer's Kitchen.  Chris Jarmer, a third generation chef used to have a restaurant in the David Jones right in the heart of the CBD.  They have moved here for quite some time now.  . Jarmer's Kitchen is a casual, but very stylish cafe.  Retro lights and plants are hanging everywhere.  It was very spacious and I loved the use of wide tables, plenty of room to put things on.

Amazing breakfast and great coffee. First time we've been for breakfast and were not let down! Awesome fitout and great table service with a smile. Had the smashed avocado and poached eggs with chorizo and Jarmers baked beans. sourdough was great, poached eggs were cooked perfectly, avocado was so refreshing and chunky instead of a puree which im not a fan of, chorizo was nice and spicy and they were generous with the serving, equally with the baked beans. It was to die for. I think I've found my Sunday go to brekky joint. Highly recommend the breakfast menu. Thumb up 👍 worth an eat. <br/>Update - serving sizes have shrunk and are too small
M
I ordered salad. It's ok, it's not my distress signal. I just didn't want to be too full, before meeting Tom Jones. You read that right. I'm 70. <br/><br/>I had the quinoa feta salad + chicken. Mr M had the burger. We also ordered the porcini arancini for entree, which came out after the mains. Not really fussed, better than a soggy burger. AMIRITE? <br/><br/>I throughly enjoyed my salad. The mint, soft feta and peppery rocket all complemented each other. Mr M was thrilled with his burger, though because he's one of those people that eat burgers and pizza with cutlery, he was frustrated with it being served in a bowl. 😕<br/><br/>If I had room I would have liked to try the deserts, the vanilla slice looked like being naughty for.
Kneesocks
This place once was amazing. I used to come here all the time with big groups of friends for brunch. However, my visit last weekend was disappointing. The menu had changed, the service was average (even though the place was pretty much empty). Breakfast was bland, particularly the eggs, no butter for the toast. They wouldn't allow substitutions and they no longer allow split bills. There goes the end of group brunches at Jarmers as not being able to split bills makes things far too difficult. Who doesn't allow split bills these days?!
Like It Is
A very disappointing experience - breakfast there was very average and simple, and definitely overpriced for the food we were paying for.<br/>I dont recommend getting the mushroom toast nor the BLT baguette.<br/><br/><br/>Past experience of the juices were good. Today's experience of the juices were disappointing. <br/><br/>The staff made no effort to build rapport. <br/><br/>I dont know what to say. Im just surprised they're still open. Maybe cause there's no refund option.
Monika Portella
I havent ever really wanted to rave about Jarmer's. It's not a bad place I just haven't been astounded by any visit I've had. Breakfasts are your usual fodder, a little on the more decadent side, eggs Benedict, pancakes, waffles, churros etc. <br/><br/>The last visit we encountered fast service but our server didn't seem very attentive or interested in being at work that day. Our meals were lovely, we ordered mushrooms with goats cheese but thought it to be a little over priced at $15. The coffee was okay. <br/><br/>We have dined here for dinner and overall had a great experience but some pasta dishes were a little on the bland side. <br/><br/>How should I bring my baby in?: outside there is lots of space for you to push your pram and quite a few tables inside would be suitable for you to park a pram. The have highchairs on offer and lots of space too :)

Finishing breakfast at exactly 11.30 am on Valentine's Day - not sorry Jarmers we are off to the reliable and delicious Hawker St cafe just around the corner in the real Bowden
SirDineAlot
The overall rating of 3.2 at the time we visited is pretty close. The overall experience was a bit underwhelming. Nothing was really "bad", but nothing was very good either. Food was average. Or should I say, over priced. If it was at a more reasonable price point, it would have been easier to swallow (pardon the pun). Lamb cutlets were over cooked and the bug tails came with a pretty average tomato sauce which completely over powered the taste of the bugs. Service could have been better and given they were about 15% full while we're were there, it was a bit disappointing. Fit out and background music made for a comfy and pleasant feel. Would give them a second to make sure we did it go on a bad day.

I had the tasting menu with a group of four on a Tuesday night. One of our friends had to leave early so we asked for the food to come out as soon as possible. They were so accommodating and everything was so delicious with great variety! We thought the tasting menu was also really good value. We will definitely we back!
Laura
Excellent quality fresh produce, friendly staff and nice decor and servingware. The restaurant itself is bright and airy, which is nice. Not the best coffee in Adelaide but still better than average.
Fit & Fed Foodie
Ordered the porcini arancini balls because I saw it in taste and they were right, they were lovely. But light on the aioli considering Im a big fan of condiments. Had the Caesar salad with chicken and it was nice and a decent size serving but just heavy on the price for what you get. $18.50 for a light salad. Only 1 anchovy when in other people's pics there are clearly 3-4. And $3 extra for chicken, I had a petty amount of shredded chicken included. The whole salad was a bit underwhelming. My companions had the Waldorf salad, which wasn't the traditional Waldorf but it was still enjoyable and nicely presented. The other dish was a pulled pork roll, except it was more a burger but the pork was well cooked and flavored. All and all it was a pleasant lunch, service was satisfactory, the place itself is cute, I liked the set up. Didn't think it was necessary to place our napkins and cutlery in a bucket when there's clearly no spares, but was impressed by the use of riedel glasses. Won't be in any rush to go back, sorry.

This is our go to restaurant for our ladies work lunchings! The staff are always friendly and helpful. No need to drive around trying to find a park with parking facilities available on site. Food comes out quickly and is always so tasty!

We came on quite a busy Friday night. The service was excellent and the wait staff were all very friendly and attentive. We started with the duck croquettes which were average, tasting just like deep fried bread crumbs mostly with little duck. The mains were generous in size. I ordered the lamb and whilst the lamb was cooked nicely, for $34, I expected more. I felt I could've made a similar dish at home for much cheaper. My friends ordered the Atlantic salmon special and the fish and chips. I had a vanilla slice for dessert and that was very good.<br/><br/>Whilst nothing tasted terrible, I don't think anything lived up to how much was being charged. When you charge $26.5 for fish and chips, I think the customer can rightly expect a lot. Whilst better than what you would get at a pub it was not better enough to justify the price.<br/><br/>Overall, the restaurant looks great, the staff were fantastic, but the food was just overpriced for what it was. Vanilla slice was good through!
Kelly Wostikow
We had brunch here for a belated Father's Day catch up on Sunday. The place was packed yet I was greeted as soon as I arrived and the staff found me a table for three very quickly and politely. They service was impeccable, the food was tasty fresh and quick! The first time in a long time I've found a great all round venue. I had the Granola & Yoghurt - huge serve and was offered milk to go with it. I had a fresh juice that was delicious as well. My Father and brother had Eggs & Chorizo - looked amazing and they polished it all off. We were offered coffees before even ordering our meals which was a great touch and also offered coffees after - which they also had as they were so yummy. Can't wait to go back and try lunch and dinner soon!
Sam
Staff were excellent and helpful. Food was good, Weiner burger was excellent. Chips were seasoned great and even gave us sauces before we asked. They recommended a wine which was fantastic. Def go back.

Unfortunately I didn't think this was the best venue for our dinner selection.<br/>Food was ok, it was pleasant and service was a bit below average (inattentive male staff who were more interested in banter between them rather than customer service).<br/>It wasn't anything to rave about.<br/>I thought the size of the meals were very average compared to other places of similar style.<br/>The venue however was gorgeous, and although we didn't do dessert the setting would be perfect for a casual coffee date.
Facebook User
Service was bad, food was bad, and coffee was the worst. My smoked salmon 'sandwich' consisted of one tiny slice of sourdough and certainly didn't deserve to be called a sandwich. But that wasn't the worst of it; my coffee tasted like watered down milk. Never again!

Came to Jarmer's on a busy Friday (1pm). Parked along the main road. We ordered within 10 minutes of seating down (of which the waitress graciously obliged to my request of a back-seating due to the cold draft coming through the entrance). Our food came all at once within the next 10-15 minutes. And it was delicious. My friends enjoyed the house and crab burgers. And I ordered the pan-fried king fish (special board) and it was cooked perfectly with a beautiful crunch of crispy fish skin. And the Waldorf salad is great too! Well-seasoned food served to you just right on a cold winter day!<br/><br/>Even though the restaurant was quite packed during lunch hour, the service was top-notch; attentive and pleasant. So all in all, we enjoyed ourselves and will come back here to try their other specials!
2nd Thursday
Thursday night for dinner was a great choice.   The fried potato bread and smoked salmon is worth the trip alone.  The main courses were all very high standard, the Duck Cassoulet, Gnocchi and Seafood Crepes all managing a good balance between rustic and gourmet.  Final statement as we left "we'll be back soon" says it all.

Recently we celebrated the retirement of two very dear ex-colleagues, two lovely souls I've worked with for a good many years. I saw it as their time to begin a new chapter, of activities they enjoy, of interests they have wanted to pursue, of extra quality family time with the third generation (and second, but we all know grandchildren hold a special place). Every celebration calls for a good meal and Jarmer's Kitchen was the pick.
June Lim
Eat the chicken schnitzel. Eat PJ's vanilla slice. They'll change everything you think you know about them. Seafood crepes on Thursday nights are totally awesome. Mushroom gnocchi is also pretty rad.

Jarmer's Kitchen. Will be going back. Good service, yummy food, best schnitzel I've eaten.

I came here for the first time on Anzac Day and it was packed but we hadn't booked. However, the lovely lady gave us a table within 5 mins as a group had just left. The staff were very friendly, efficient and the food & fresh juice was yummy! The fries were also really good!! I like it and would come back

Swelter. Great food, however staff inattentive & very uncomfortable as dining area not adequately ventilated. Wouldn't suggest going in summer months.

Just a few little tweaks needed..... Friday lunch, good spot, easy to get to location, nice fitout. Food was okay, wouldn't rave about it. The jamon with cheese and chargrilled bread was great, seafood crepes were delicious. Beef Asian salad a bit too fish saucey (I like fish sauce!). I could have wrung the oil out of the doughey potato fritter special menu item.... maybe oil wasn't hot enough, but it wasn't too good. I actually ordered the salmon covered one, but when the waiter brought it out it was a plain one.... "sorry, I pushed the wrong button" was what I was told before I even explained it wasn't what I ordered. Surely they could have cooked another 50c piece of dough rather than knowingly bring the wrong food to the table. Staff attitude was a little bit off, a warm and inviting vibe would have been nice. Probably wouldn't go back here which is a shame.

Review Saturday 7/2/15. I went to Jarmers for the first time last Saturday (7/2/15) and it was a hot day. The place only had wall mounted aircons which made the place quite warm. I had a Waldorf, Turkey, Avocado Salad. Presentation was nice but the salad was very warm which made it not taste that good. It also had a piece of crusty bread with it but it was rock hard, thought I was going to break my teeth trying to bite it. Just didnt like the place. Staff was friendly.

Lucky we booked in, we arrived and jarmers was absolutely packed. We now know why, the food was amazing and at very reasonable prices. The service was 10/10, staff very friendly and accomodating. We settled in for the night after tea and enjoyed some drinks. Will definitely be back :)

Birthday dinner. A nice variety of meals were served. One guest was gluten free and the staff did well accommodating her requirements. A busy evening but the staff were engaging. Definitely worth a second visit.

Great pancakes. We had a great breakfast here on a weekday a couple of weeks ago. The pancakes were great and very generous. Loved the decor. No issues with service, the barista was apologetic that our coffees were slightly delayed (still came out before the food) as there was a large group in the other room. I'm keen to go back and try the lunch/dinner menu.

Disappointed. Bad service.. I don't think I'll bother again with this place. We went as a group for breakfast, the food tasted good but not worth the money you pay when compared to other places who give generous amounts. A few of us ordered juices, in which the wrong one was brought out to us and the waitress never returned with the correct order. <br/>The service was average all round, the waitresses uninterested in what they were doing. When going to the counter a certain male with an accent was frustrated that the six of us wanted to split bills, his attitude and body language was blunt and rude which really ruined the experience for us ! Not sure if it was just a bad day but we will definitely be heading to other cafes for better quality and value meals and especially served by people who care !

Great food, great service and a wonderful location. Try the schnitzels.

Food was really good. Setting was great. Service was alright. They did keep bringing food to the table that we didn't order. Pretty noisy and I got stuck sitting on a very uncomfortable wooden bench. Make sure to be super careful when parking . Several of our group got 62 buck fines!!!!!
Phil
Ho Hum but WARNING watch out for parking fines. We had a reasonable meal, pretty pricey, service OK but the main reason I am reviewing is the parking fines. Their is a series of small lanes at the rear of the restaurant, these appear one way and are not well sign posted and it is very easy to park facing the flow of the traffic on either side. The council parking inspector knows this and nearly every car in the street was treated to a $62 parking fine, just be very very careful.

Very average. The food was good, but not good enough for me to put up with the service again. I waited 40 minutes for a juice ( only when I asked where it was- 30 minutes after ordering- I as told that there was a wait), only for it to arrive after I had finished eating my breakfast. <br/>We were never asked if we wanted the bill nor did we ask for it- intead is was placed in front of us less than 5 minutes after our plates had been cleared. A few minutes later the waitress came back and pointed out the bill was there. <br/>Within another 5 minutes our water glasses were cleared (despite the fact that we had asked for more, and some were still full). It was clear that they wanted us gone. <br/>Like I said the food was good, but I've had better at many other places where I have definitely received much better and friendlier service.

I have been here a couple of times and have found this place to be average. It really depends what meal you get but the sizing could be improved. $15 for one piece of toast and a few mushrooms for breakfast is not reasonable....

Too loud and pricey. I have no idea why, but it was so loud. Comparable to a night club- I had to bring my face to my partners ear so he could hear me.<br/>Its fancy pub food which tastes great but $36 for fish and chips is taking it a bit far.<br/>Meh.

We had a large group lunch at Jarmer's Kitchen and the food was amazing. The service was fantastic, we were well looked after and were recommended great food options to try.<br/>The food was fresh and light with amazing flavours. It was my first experience at Jarmer's, it was so good, simply amazing. I've already booked my next experience here and I can't wait.<br/>Thank you to the staff at Jarmer's kitchen for sharing your restaurant with us.

Has a way to go. Lunch can be described as a mixture. In the main, the food was OK, although the salmon appeared to be over cooked. Front of house staff could lift their game, particularly a certain male who could best be described as prickly and lacking personality.<br/><br/>Thought the wine list was lacking, even though it has a number of different labels on the menu. I do not understand why so many Italian wines were on it. Perhaps Jarmer is an Italian name?<br/><br/>If you do not like noise, this is not the place for you. Also be aware that parking nearby is limited, which can be a problem if you have difficulty walking. You could finish up in what looks a bit like a building site. There is a long way to go before the area is finally developed.<br/>I would rate it around 6 out of 10.

Fantastic place love it. Had brekkie here This morning and was really impressed. The service was superb and food first class. Prices are spot on. Love it be back very soon

One of my favourites. This cafe has great food, great service and a great fit out. Never waited for meals, never had a bad meal and always enjoyed my dining experience. The air chips are great and so is the vanilla slice! Only downful.. Jarmers is almost a 2 hour drive so cant get there as often as I would like. If you were around the corner i would prob be there everyday!!!

Been looking forward to trying this place for ages, unfortunately had a really bad experience Saturday morning. They stopped breakfast at 11am so we decided to have lunch. Had the gnocchi and asian beef salad both were very average. Didn't end up finishing our meals. Staff were all over the place and not very helpful.

Bedlam. First of all, the food was nice. But the experience as a whole was not. <br/><br/>Rang to book and was told we didn't need to only to get there ten mins later and it was packed. They found us a small two person table for three of us but it wasn't too bad. <br/><br/>The wait staff were all over the place. It took 45 mins to get coffees and other drinks didn't arrive togeher. Other peoples' drinks came to our table and we got told when we reminded them of our drinks that they got delivered to another table. <br/><br/>The whole thing just screamed disorganised. Probably could forgive if it was a one off but two times waiting an hour for brekky and 30-45 mins for drinks is unacceptable. Shame given the nice food and potential, unlikely to go back.

Disappointing. Tried Jarmer's Kitchen for breakfast this morning and left disappointed. I rang prior to book, but was told there was no need, to then be scowled at by a waitress when we arrived and I didn't have one. The coffee took 35 minutes to arrive (after our food), and the meal (Big Breakfast + Savoury French Toast) was lukewarm at best, the mushroom stone cold. The bacon was cool and the fat had started to congeal. I couldn't eat it. I advised the waiter about the cold food and he apologised and offered a new one. We had no time to wait for another so I persisted with the bad one. There was no pepper on the table, only salt, and we weren't offered any from the oversized grinder on the counter. I had to get that myself. The waiter said he'd take the price of our coffees off our meal - he didn't. I won't be back.

Busy Saturday Breakfast. 10:30 Saturday morning and the place was full. Glad we booked for our 5 in advance. <br/>Coffee's were good, but I did send my first long black back as it was way too hot and burnt.<br/>Our meals were delayed due to a mix up handling the order which meant that my Steak & Eggs were only warm by the time it was served. However, the fillet steak was excellent! Tender and a hint of smokey grill, filled out nicely with a couple of perfect fried eggs and potato pieces. The others had Mushrooms on Toast and Savory Toast & Avocado sides. All in all we were satisfied with the meals, service, decor and value.<br/>P.S. "grilled tomatoes" implies more than half a small tomato.

Hmm. Coffee was ok. Venue is gorgeous. Haven't tried the food. <br/><br/>I do check places out before bringing large groups through however, and being dismissed out of hand by a staff member was inappropriate. Her tone and condescending manner saw me leave with no care to return. Ever. <br/><br/>Sorry, Jarmer's. Hospitality for me is about way more than food and decor.

This place is great. It's my third time and the food has been exceptional each time. Not expensive and just good wholesome food. The steak is like butter, the veal snitzels are very traditional and real tasty. Desserts are great too. Highly recommend.

So overpriced
Mashedpotato
Over priced, small serves, forgetful staff. I was so disappointed, I ordered the mushrooms with sour dough, It was served on one tiny slice of bread, with boring button mushrooms, some lovely cheese and no garnish. My friends was cold, my bread was soggy, and for $14.50 there was not enough food. I was expecting giant field mushrooms, not the cheapest mushrooms you can buy. You can make this better at home. The service was average. Originally they gave the gluten free to someone else, as they did not realise it was the gluten free. We had to ask twice for the smoothie we ordered, we had to ask twice for the panacotta. The baked eggs were not served in a cast iron cooking dish as expected, just in a normal plate. My friend did not like the coffee. I just left hungry. This place is packed so maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. We will not be back.

Jarmers Kitchen. Had a birthday dinner here on the weekend. Was amazed at how nice the decor is, friendly staff with great ambience. Food arrived quickly, tasted amazing and would highly recommend!!! thank you Jarmers

Disappointing. Service poor, chips undercooked, main meals lacking depth in flavour. Underwhelming menu. Expected more following on from air

Five stars. Fabulous night at Jarmer's - great venue, friendly and efficient staff, amazing food! Will definitely be back again to work my way through the menu!

Disappointed!. Very excited to try this new adventure after enjoying a delicious breakfast at scool. A disappointment ... no air chips - first thing on the 'small things' list, duck croquettes could have been anything & best described as bland, & a tiny ham sandwich bulked out with loads of rocquette with a big price tag. Good service was the biggest positive. Not rushing back in a hurry :-(

We arrived on a Saturday morning and it began with a 10 minute wait to be greeted at the door. The staff was plainly overwhelmed. Our waitress attempted to commit our orders to memory but had to return several times to confirm a few items. She may as well have used a pad and pen. Banana Chocolate hadn't a hint of chocolate. The banana milkshake didn't taste of banana. The berry smoothie was so bad we had to exchange it. Food-wise it was alright, credit to the kitchen. But their baked eggs dish was actually poached. Not a good dining experience.

There is nothing worse than burnt coffee... My absolute lowest expectation of a cafe is that they can make the basic staple of the cafe industry... This place did not pass that test.

It's a win for the Western Suburbs Thank You Chris Jarmer for giving us now a great place to eat Breaky, Lunch or Dinner easy parking <br/>And friendly staff.

Another great meal at Jarmers!. After a wee pubcrawl around Brompton we came to Jarmers for dinner on a Saturday night. We booked over the phone mid-afternoon without a problem, when we arrived the restaurant was happy and full-ish. This time we started with 2 entrees among 3 of us, the air chips and the fried camembert with cranberry sauce, both were delicious and generous. <br/><br/>The main event though, was the Saturday special of Chateaubriand, shared between 2 of us. And oh my goodness, make no mistake, this was the best piece of beef I have ever eaten, bar none. Thickly sliced, beautifully seared outside, perfect medium inside, tender from first bite to last, and yes, we did finish it! Extras with the chateaubriand were roasted potatoes, green beans, mushrooms and an airy bearnaise sauce, all perfectly executed. It's a lot of beef for sure, but at $80 for 2 or 3, it's great value. My partner had a Caesar salad which was also excellent, very generous size, surprisingly light for a Caesar salad with a really good proportioning of the ingredients. <br/><br/>Most surprisingly of all, dinner for 3 with drinks, Chateaubriand, main, 2 entrees and coffees only came to $150! Service was enthusiastic as always. I can't rate Jarmers highly enough, they are setting the bar for casual but elegant dining in the West!<br/><br/><br/>-----23 Jul, 2014-----<br/><br/>Really nice, and the owner did a lovely thing. I dined at Jarmer’s Kitchen on a weekday lunchtime. I had been to Plant 13 a couple of times and the new fit-out is bright and airy and welcoming. Busy at lunchtime but the waitresses were engaging, cheerful and knowledgeable. To the food... we had the Hungarian langos, porcini arancini, confit chicken leg, and veal schnitzel. I have to say that I was expecting great things based on reviews and reputation, and while the food was really really good, it fell just a bit short of what I had hoped for. The langos were unusual and not bad, but are essentially just fried slightly savoury dough. The porcini arancini were appealingly home-made looking, and a very generous serving, but they were just slightly too hard, a little bit abrasive in the mouth, and probably a touch dry – a dipping sauce or something would have been much welcomed. The schnitzel came with a little potato salad which was nice but not showstopping, and the schnitzel itself, again while very good, was just a little dry again. The confit chicken was excellent however. For my tastes most of the dishes were on the underseasoned side, but salt was on the table so no problem. Something else I should mention – Chris Jarmer himself was having lunch in the restaurant, and as I was settling the bill I saw him get up and take cupcakes from the counter over to a family who had a couple of upset children, free of charge  What a simple and lovely gesture, that alone ensures I will be back to continue supporting this enterprise! After all, there is plenty more on the menu I want to try!

Great food at reasonable prices and great atmosphere but sadly let down by the wait staff who bought out a gluten free meal with regular bread sitting under the meat (even after we clarified at time of ordering and again when the meal arrived). Didn't find the bread until half way through eating. No replacement meal offered and waitress advised it was organic meat and should still eat the meal (clearly have no clue about gluten free). Very sick after. The other 12 people in the group were very happy (other than an entree bought out with main meal rather than spaced). Highly recommend if you don't have any special dietary requirements/allergies.

Jarmer's Kitchen. This absolutely fabulous casual chic restaurant is going to create a sensation around Adelaide when it is better known. Get in now before you will need to book 3 months in advance! Chris Jarmer may have learned his craft from his beloved father Peter, but he has created one of the most amazingly eclectic, simple and surprisingly delicious menus I have ever seen. Go retro with crumbed camembert, or go funky with an outstanding "hot dog", or eat Austro-Hungarian ( goulash, schnitzel and langos), or wait for the classics ( braised duck or chateaubriand) on their specialty nights) or just enjoy the "pub" usuals like fish and chips. steak and salads like you have never appreciated before. And if you survive the langos ( glorious fried potato "cakes") and the mains then you must try the most brilliant vanilla slice and baked cheesecake you have ever tasted. And the host is a delightful, cheerful man, his staff are exuberant youngsters and our meal was one of the happiest meals I've had in Adelaide for a long time. I remember "Jarmers" at Kensington with enormous love and revered Peter, but, in my opinion Chris is doing things at his Kitchen which will make the old man proud!

Noisy barn with bad attitude. Didn't eat there because the whole process of being greeted and seated was such an ordeal. Painful. Eventually given a hard little seat in the back corner and grilled by four staff in a row as to whether we were "right for drinks" before being introduced to the menu. <br/><br/>Walked out. <br/><br/>Bad operation.

Honest Food. Seriously where do you do get a Schnitzel crumbed to order and not cooked in a deep fryer yum!<br/>Love the atmosphere so relaxed and value for money that Langos hungarian street Food Bread is the best <br/>Vanilla slice to die for <br/>service is not like the Ritz but neither are the prices so don't complain<br/>If want a good honest meal at a reasonable price give it a shot

Really really good! Loved the duck croquettes and the chateaubriand, and the vanilla slice was the best ever!

Busy!! Cool.. Went past the new Jarmer's Kitchen on Sunday for breakfast and they were SO busy!! We were lucky and they squeezed us in! Even though we had to wait a bit for our coffee's they tasted great and the food was delicious. I know why they are so busy. Cool decor- fresh! And love the lights.<br/>New local for us. Yum.
