Review Pho Huong Viet - Box Hill

tiffii_c
The beef pho at huong viet is really good. The broth is very aromatic and flavoursome. My friends really enjoyed the pho, even drank all the broth. Downside was the chicken beef combination ~ there were over 10 chicken hearts included in my friends pho. The restaurant itself needs a bit of cleaning, floors were extremely slippery for a non rainy day and tables were not cleaned after customers left, staff were just standing and chatting amongst themselves ignoring customer attention.

The spring rolls were very delicious, rice paper rolls were yum and generous in size. However the pho was disappointing compared to a lot of places, the rice noodles in there were not as soft and chewy and broth lacks flavor.
Lachlan Lau
Is this even Pho? Seriously don't come here unless you want to be seriously disappointed. Pho had soft noodles and thick, tough beef slices. Pork chop rice lacked flavour and rice was too soft.
Diana Lee
Had lunch and ordered pho dac biet with prawn spring rolls. Also wanted to order a three colors but it was not available. The spring rolls were nice but the pho was not. The sliced beef had a gamey odor, the tendons and tripe were tough and not cooked thoroughly. Very disappointed in the overall meal.

Pho doesn’t even taste like pho.. weird tasting and overly sour. Had takeaway and they didn’t give me any onion spring onion or coriander and had to add some myself. Strange place with strange flavours To top things off I found hair in my takeaway. Not just one hair. Honestly this place has put me right off. I think their soup had gone bad and the seas food soup my partner ordered was so bland. The stock was separated and lumpy…

Food was nice and flavoursome. However, the venue needs thorough cleaning. Tables were not clean (first thing we all noticed) and floor was very slippery. Service was good.

Holy hell this was an incredible meal! I read on someone else's review that the pho bowls are very big and they like to get a small and a side. Very glad we did get small as a very large bowl came out. We looked around and the medium and large bowls were ginormous! The pho had a rich fragrant smell and taste, and the supplied herbs were fresh. Love love loved it!

The worst pho ever I had in my life , what I got in my special beef pho was unexpected as you see its photo.

Great food at great prices Will definitely go again

Best Vietnamese food anywhere in the area! Consistently high quality

Quick and friendly service, easy to order and food is delicious! Favorite local cheap eat!

Best pho in eastern suburbs!

I’ve dined at this restaurant several times and never had any problems, but today was the first time I ordered takeaway from them. Long story short - do NOT order takeaway from them unless you want to get food poisoning like I did.

When I received it it was clear that they did not make it fresh because even after heating it up, the noodles were still firm and had a bite to it (which makes me think that they left it in the fridge for ages) and the meat tasted off and honestly quite disgusting so I ended up spitting it out. A few hours later I got hit with food poisoning lol. Safe to say I won’t be returning again :/

FOOD 4/5 - tea in thermos was barely lukewarm :( anyway, the rice vermicelli with tofu and vegetables stir fry was portioned well, tofu would have benefited from being more crispier, but the noodles were much thicker than standard rice vermicelli at other restaurants. Another plus is that it doesn’t taste too oily, but not overly fresh that it has no kick.

SERVICE 3/5 - very quick, but a little bit rushed in talking. I did like watching the staff clean up tables promptly and properly.

ATMOSPHERE 3/5 - feels a little untidy secondary to the napkins and cutlery being a bit scrambled around on the side, but the large window facing the main road allows for nice natural light. The place is also not too loud.

Do not eat at this place!! We came here during lunch and ordered pho. The table we were directed to sit at were cleared but NOT cleaned. We had to clean the table ourselves using tea. When my pho came out, it was not hot, the broth was "cloudy" looking instead of clear broth that you see everywhere else. We also had to ASK for bean shoots, lemon and mints. This was not given to us at the start. The edge of the bowl that the pho was served has stained all over it, it looked like they didn't even bother to clean the bowl properly. The staff speak very little English. Definitely will not return!

I ordered the Salty Fish and Chicken Fried Rice with Salt and Pepper Chicken Ribs through a food delivery app. Upon receiving the meal, I noticed it was just chicken fried rice, no salty fish in sight. Ok whatever, at this stage I was too hungry to care, I’ll let it pass. The taste of the food was pretty average, then begins the horror that happened a few hours after the meal...
Michael Huntingdon
Ordered broken rice take away and specifically asked for fish sauce, didn’t get any fish sauce and the meal is 80% rice.
Also they give you chopsticks to eat your rice with, $14 over priced and trash tasting food.
Won’t eat here again and recommend you not waste your money and try eat somewhere else for more authentic Vietnamese

Don't be filled by the mediocre rating, I'm not sure how it's lower than the other pho place at boxhill
Whatdoyafeellike
One of the best pho places around and it's usually quite busy. We always choose the rare beef pho which comes in small, medium or large. The broth is so flavoursome and the beef is in nice thin slices. The pickled onion on the table makes it even better.
Mistermister
Bring a jacket this winter. They just don’t ever turn on the heaters when I’m there. I get take away and eat to back at the office. It’s just too cold to eat there. You must order a medium size Pho for takeaways. They don’t allow small size. Flavour is ok. But not as good at Pho 888 around the corner

When in Box Hill, this is the only place for delicious pho and impressive bun bo hue. Their silky smooth pho noodles swim in broth with a low MSG count. Their ingredients are always very generous in portions and service is very good. The highlight for me though is their bun bo hue...that addictive spicy soup ladened with lemongrass is just too good!
FOOD TRIP
Pho Huong Viet is a great vietnamese restaurant in Boxhill. Generous sized bowls at reasonable prices. The pho was delicious and would recommend!. Essentials for Pho. Pho Chicken and Beef Combination (small) $10. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!. A very clean and fragrant broth. Tender pieces of meat. Delicious! ★★★★
Mr MM Smith
Pretty good pho. It's in an area that is mainly renowned for Chinese food so pho is almost the odd one out. I go the spring rolls and special beef combo, this consists of offel, tripe and other off cuts. Soup is good, delicious and cheap.

If you’re really craving Vietnamese and you stay in Box Hill - this would be a convenient spot to check out which is located super close to Box Hill Central. The pho came out pretty quickly, had to wait a bit longer for the pancake but that is normal for that dish!
Samantha Shan
Ordered three color drink and this half glass came up... Been told this is how they serves here and can’t do anything to help. Will not come back, very disappointed.
Sam Wong
Been here a few times. Tables are close together. The food is quite acceptable. The price is reasonable. But on a day like this, 25 degrees now expecting a high of 34 it is just too hot for comfort.
All 4 of us are now sweating like pigs. A major fault for a restaurant.
Jade C
The pho here is one of my favourites and it is good value for money. The food always comes out fast too. The staff are polite and there’s lots of seating.
Bear Noms
We dropped by and tried the pho here a while ago. The broth was not as tasty and I wished they put more meat. It was not a memorable meal...
KarinaN
Really like this place for a quick, easy and tasty dinner. Service is excellent.

Only downside is the bun hasn’t got any herbs. No coriander or mint. Huge letdown.
Food 4/5
Service 3/5
Environment 3/5

In this restaurant, the Pho is taste different than others in Vietnam areas such as Richmond or footscary, very valuable. A lot of beef on the top and the soup not like the others taste sweet, their soup like Chinese beef soup, the spicy flavor so strong and feel perfect as well.

The lemongrass pork taste good as well.
Mini Mooi
Fast service. We had Medium and Large rare beed pho. Large size was massive. The pho was noting special but mint didn't come with bean shoots which change the flavour of pho.
Vivian
2.5

Not authentic , broth semi has the essence of a pho broth but something is just off . Maybe a bit too much star anise? The spices are just not balanced
Clare M
Often enjoy dining in or ordering take away from here - HOWEVER after being brought the wrong dish, I experienced a staff member quite openly mocking my pronounciation of the dish to two other staff members in the middle of the restaurant. There was a greatly appreciated apology from the manager, but never an apology from the staff member. While the food is good, we will not go back or recommend.
Hân Trịnh
The food here is a bit above average. I love their broken rice with bbq pork and Vietnamese vermicelli salad with pork and spring rolls! Their noodled soup like pho or spicy lemongrass beef soup is below average and too salty! They have very reasonable price and quite friendly staff.
Yuji D
Came here because it was the last Vietnamese place I hadn't yet gone to near Box Hill central. I got the rare beef pho - a staple to try at any Vietnamese restaurant. I got the large size. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with the results. The vast majority of the bowl was noodles and there was very little meat or even vegetables. I'd hate to think how little meat I would have gotten if I got a smaller size - or maybe I would have gotten the same amount of meat so essentially large would just be more noodles to fill the bowl. I had to throw so much of the noodles away because it would have been a massive carb overload. In fact I ate quite a lot of the noodles yet still managed to fill the vegetable plate full of noodles that I didn't eat.

Although Pho Huong Viet has been in the Box Hill restaurant scene for quite a few years now, it is still one of the newest of the Vietnamese restaurants in Box Hill. With fierce competition from many of Box Hill's long standing Vietnamese restaurants, Pho Huong Viet will definitely need to bring something special to the table.
Marina Ung
Honestly, I’m pretty disappointed. The flavour of the pho soup was basically non existent. The bean sprouts and were very stingy portioned. The only thing I believe to be good was the pricing and the amount of glass noodles you’ll get for a Medium pho dish.
KN J
Unfortunately we were not satisfied with our dining experience. The meals were presented well enough but the flavours were lacking in my opinion. The pho broth lacked in flavour and depth and no Vietnamese basil or bean sprouts were brought out. The rice from the bo luc lat was hard and probably at least a day old. The only redeeming dish was the pork spring rolls.

Service was friendly but not enough to entice me to return.
Andrew Poon
Been going here for a long time but suddenly this lady told me she needs to charge me extra if I want a little bit more bean sprouts. They didn't even give me that much in the first place!

You know the Romans understood the value of salt but this restaurant takes it to the extreme, I would have to be the saltiest restaurant in Box Hill! Started with the Vietnamese spring rolls which were pleasant enough but not enough lettuce for the 7 spring rolls, the mint leaves had holes in them from some insect and no noodles or coriander on the plate. Mains consisted of Calamari in a lemongrass sauce. The sauce was good enough but the calamari was inedible, I couldn't chew it enough to swallow so had to spit it out. (note to chef, soak the calamari in milk overnight to soften). Way too much salt also. The next dish was a meat combination in green curry. It came out as a stir fry, not as I imagined or have had elsewhere. Meat was stringy and again, too salty. The service was friendly and attentive.
Tony Barnes
Had the beef and beef ball pho. Condiments including fresh chilli were already on the table, and the waiter came out with the obligatory bean sprouts and Vietnamese mint with lemon. The broth was a nice complex flavour and the sliced beef tender.

The prawn and pork rice paper rolls weren't great - the stuffing was quite dry.

I'd go again for the pho though that's for sure.

Super happy with our meal here. My lemongrass pork vermicelli was delicious and meat was well cooked, flavoured and very tender. Pho soup base was great and a very generous serving size! The place felt very clean compared to many other Vietnamese restaurants and service was fantastic. Would definitely come back. It is up there as a great local joint in Box Hill!

It’s the best pho in Mel! I think the rate is too low to match the food and the service here! I don’t know why it’s rate is so low... I have tried a lot of pho but I think it is the best over Melbourne!
Luke
Consistently high quality pho and other Vietnamese favourites. This is the only Vietnamese restaurant outside of Springvale, Richmond, or Footscray that I frequent. The pho here beats quite a few offerings in the more predominantly Vietnamese suburbs. Highly recommended!
Scottt
The Beef Pho is tasty, but doesn't compare to the Pho you can get in Footscray or Springvale. The beef was tough and stringy. We also had Grilled Chicken and it was incredibly salty.
The service is haphazard, I don't think a single dish was delivered to the right table on the first attempt.
Lily Nguyen
Worst pho I had in Melbourne, it's diluted so there's no taste except for msg and they put no effort into cooking the chicken. Don't eat pho in box hill, just go to Springvale or Footscray.
Ling Yuan
This is my favourite pho restaurant in Melbourne. Great for no carb diet too if you have cravings on the beef pho flavours. Good papaya salad and the traditional Vietnamese street food selections.
Thảo Bùi
I ate Egg noodle & wonton, BBQ pork. The tase for soup was so good except for the overcook noodle. I don’t like when I have to waste time to throw that noodle out. BBQ pork was awesome. Trading hour is suitable for dinning at late night at Box Hill.
P/s: the price now is $12 (not $11 anymore). I think that they should update it

Could this be the new 'best pho shop in Box Hill'? It has a lot going for it, that's pho sho!

Entering through a sneaky side section, we were worried we'd not get a seat - until the lovely friendly-and-smiling man invited us through to a whole other space out the back. Our youngest gleefully said 'closer to the kitchen!'. Before we knew it another smiling face, this one I would come to know as the 'lady with the beautiful-genuine smile' gave us our menus. So much more than pho on offer, but pho was why we came. Three sizes of bowl, small, medium and large. First to drinks, a thermos of good tea already on the table (along with chopped chunks of fresh chilli, slices of white onion, fish sauce, chilli sauce, hoisin and chilli oil/paste, tissues, cutlery (giant spoons) and chopsticks. We ordered some extra drinks and they came quickly.

We glaced up regularly to see staff carrying trays, trays and more trays of delicious food - most of it pho, to a restaurant of loud and happy diners. I quite liked the 'scuse me' call as the 'beautiful-genuine' smile and others, navigated around little kids, the elderly and other servers.

She checked on us at every pass, until we confirmed we were ready. Order taken, it seemed like less than a handful of minutes and our steaming bowls of aromatic pho arrived - and a couple of other treats.

We quickly realised that a 'large' here is more than we can handle, conceding we'd not finish, and perhaps an individual serve of medium will suffice in future. The broth, scented so wonderfully is not clear as many pho broths are, but the flavour, the hints of spice and meaty goodness was all there. Plenty, plenty of meat too. Sadly we order pretty plainly, no 'adventure' in beef pizzle at our table. Rare beef, beef and beef ball, rare beef and brisket and a beef and chicken combo. Lots of gorgeous herbage, bean shoots, lemon and the assorted extras mentioned earlier, we were free to build our own. I was sad when I knew I could eat no more. The rare beef was delicious though, and the little condiment bowls on the side ensured no -one fought over condiments.

Bo la lot was good, Hanoi spring rolls ditto, but it's the pho - and the service that call us back.
Justin
Pho is fast and tasty. Portion sizes of the other dishes are larger than expected. In particular the grilled chicken. Great place to go if you are looking for authentic Vietnamese food in box hill. Ambience isn't as good as its competitors on carrington,

Thus place is good to have light and healthy meal. It was quite busy. We ordered spring roll and rice noodle soup. Soup was amazing and spring roll make me feel healthy. But waiting staffs do not have good knowledge for their food. Rather than that this is great place for lunch.
Zidane
The pho here is definitely one of the better ones around town. Viet pho is everywhere, but I found that you get more meat compared to places closer to the city. It is generous and the prices are similiar to over in Springvale. Around $12 for a medium bowl.

I don't like getting a large bowl at Viet places since they overload the soup usually. By the time you are halfway it has cooled down due to the larger surface area exposed from the larger bowl. Medium I find stays hotter bit longer.

The quality of the beef is very good. They are not too thinly sliced and well sized. In terms of service you got to call them over by making your presence known!
Viviana
Me and my boyfriend have been there last month before they closed an hour and I ordered a bowl of beef pho, they gave me wrong order and all fat, just a few pieces of meat, the broth has no taste. Then, I complained the waitress wouldn't change for me and she has behaviour like angry at me. I'm original Vietnamese and this is the worst pho I had ever had in my life. I forgot to take the photo of my bowl so you couldn't imagine how bad is it. Anw Never come back!!!

This is becoming one of my regular Pho restaurants. Not as good as the ones in Richmond, but still good standard in the outer eastern suburbs. I had the large beef special Pho for $13. Large proportion and the noodles were smooth and soft. Broth was boiling hot and tastes authentic. Staff will get you seated quickly and the food was out in a flash.
Sklatte79
It's our family favourite place for pho, the broth is really good! Their beef lemongrass salad and springrolls are to die for!
Service is reasonable, however I found the place needs to be spruced up a little bit, floor is quite greasy.
TitaniaApplie
I had the bun bo hue. The noodles were the right level of chewiness, and the congealed pork blood had a nice flavour. Aside from that, the broth was way too salty and just didn't work for me. The variety of meat, while generous, the beef was chewy overcooked. I doctored the broth with the accompaniments and hoisin sauce and chilli sauce and it was edible but I've had way better in terms of the flavour.
Edgar Darmawan
Enjoyed the pho and the beef here, as well as the vietnamese pancakes. Have been here a few times. Quite tasty broth and generous portion, good value. The vietnamese coffee is nice also here.
Pho Sure
I was a regular at this establishment before they moved down the road to the new shop. Quality AND taste have also gone down the road since then... ate at the newer shopfront thrice and was still disappointed and missing the taste of the old frontage.
Taeyeon's Hamster
I've been here a few times and they recently moved down a few shops to the other side of Whitehorse Road. You order from a chit sheet and once you have finished, you need to ring the bell and a staff will come and collect your paper.
The pho here is really nice, with authentic vietnamese quality. The broth is spot on, nice and sweet with big portions. Adding some of the condiments they had made the pho even better, a bit of chilli to spicen the soup up and pickled onion to add some sweet and sourness.
The ice vietnamese white coffee is relatively small but suits my taste.

Highly recommend this place, which serve high quality pho at a reasonable price.

Friendly staff, Super quick service, recommend special beef combination
Vietnamese techno doof doof in the kitchen, can't go wrong
Eat your heart out

We've eaten here a couple of times - I had the chicken pho the first time and the stir fried Mongolian chicken noddles the other time. Both dishes were tasty, rich in flavour with plenty of vegetables. They also have one of those menus you could get lost in if you're not careful with a great variety of Vietnamese as well as other Asian dishes.

Also serves a handful of different types of beer and wine.

I went here today for lunch. I went here years ago when it was in the old location and I remember I wasn't impressed with the broth, there was also a really annoying winger of a child and his grandmother didn't tell him to shut his mouth. Luckily today there were nice children, one even held the door open for me. Today I ordered the beef and tendon pho 🍲. I tried the broth and it was tasty and interesting because the star anise really stood out. I enjoyed the soup and I thought the tendon was nice and soft but the beef was a bit chewy. I was a bit disappointed when my table didn't have all the condiments I had to borrow sauce from another table and I didn't realise they had pickled onion, I don't normally like pickled onion but I like a little bit in my pho. I also ordered a 3 coloured drink 🍹 but they had run out, that's ok because straight after ordering it I realised I wanted to watch my diet and save a few dollars but I would've been disappointed if I was craving 3 coloured drink. The interior looked nice, it didn't look tacky like some other pho places I've been to and the staff here were nice. The staff were apologetic when I told them my table didn't have all the condiments. I'll probably bring my friends back to try it and see what they think. I didn't take a photo because I forgot my phone, maybe next time.

Thought we'd try this place again in its new location. We had a very good dining experience. My partner had beef pho, which he enjoyed (and he's super fussy). I had a papaya salad, which can be a bit of a risky selection, but I was very happy with dish. Thankfully, I love chili, as it was quite hot, and I was hoping to share some of it with my toddler. Very fresh and flavoursome. The new location looks good. Service fast and friendly. We'll return if we're looking for Vietnamese in Box Hill.
CafeChick
Average pho. Chewy thin beef slices of low quality. Fast service. Limited English from wait staff. Spring rolls not too bad. Relatively clean.
Annie
Since this place moved to its current location, the quality of the food has been amazing!! Esp the Singapore chilly soft shell crab!! What a fabulous idea!! For the last meal we had there, the food was as good as any that we had in Vietnam. Keep up the quality please, this is our favourite weekly meal joint atm.
Chele_Lou
Fabulous food, polite friendly service. Everthing fresh and beautifully cooked. Highly recommend the 109 prawns on eggplant with sichuan sauce! My husband and daughter had pad thai, great balance of noodles veg and meat, very tasty. Dont expect tables to be cleared promptly, they are incredibly busy. Excellent value for quality food. We'll be going back!

NOT AS GOOD AFTER THE RENOVATION!
This used to be my favourite pho place until they had a renovation. I was very disappointed when yesterday I tried their beef and beef ball pho and it tasted different. Their broth used to be delicious and their noodles used to be amazing but now the broth taste different and not as good. Their pork with broken rice is not as good anymore as the rice is not even broken and they reduced the amount they gave to us. After the renovation all the prices have gone up but the standard of food has gone down. Very disappointed and wish they didn't have the renovation but the food is still decent but not as good.
Tony
Average pho at best.
Not as good as the more talked about pho joints in Melbourne especially the broth flavour.
Much rather drive to Springvale for a bowl at Hung Vuong.

UPDATE 20/12/2016
New location, new and improved everything .......
Went by to check out the new location, apart from the confusing entrance all are on song.
Better service, better interior, better set up and most importantly much better food.
It seems that there are more on the Menu and not just Vietnamese Pho noodle soup, got a bit of Thai, Indonesian/Malaysian, etc.
Taste are on the upside for the price that they are charging, around $10/meal.

Keep up the great work.

PREVIOUS
Not as impressive as the other cousins around Melbourne ....

Correct me if I'm wrong that they are part of the Pho Huong Viet group ...... however this one in particular their Pho soup broth is not like the rest, not as fresh, not quite stale, but just not quite right.
MR E
Love this place for Pho, really love the Tom Yum soup! Haven't tried anything else on the menu, but it seems pretty busy all the time, quick service, great place for a quick Asian dish I guess!
Khpn
After some drinking and gami chicken, I was still feeling a little perkish, so decided to stop by here as we were walking by. Ordered a beef with beef ball pho. The food came out quick which was good. The pho was not that great at all, the soup lacked substance and flavour. I think I wont come across a better pho place because i am used to the best I get at Pho Hung Vung in springvale.
Gede26
Best pho i ever had, love the springroll, rice noodles cake......go there 3 4 times a week
My favourite vietnamese restaurant
Yumyumyumyumyum
Ms Sunshine
The worst pho, ever.
The dish was dirty, soup was cold so beef was still red (I mean raw), couldn't finish it all.
Hope I don't get sick...so disappointed.
And staff are not friendly, they didn't even say thank you when we left there.
Wouldn't recommend, won't come back.
Kristaps
Always a good meal here. Well priced and portions are fair. The Pho is standard however always delivers and also the Bun is well above average. The best asset is the hand made rice paper rolls that are fresh and delicious.
Ronnie
I've been here a few times before, and it's a bit disappointing that my experience today didn't quite live up to my past experiences.
I ordered the chicken and beef pho. The serving size was very generous, however, that's about where the positives stop.
The soup itself lacked flavour - it was a good soup but it tasted a little bit bland. The chicken was good, but the beef used wasn't the best cut and nowhere near as great as other pho places I've tried.
Service was okay - the staff are polite when prompted but generally unattentive.
Overall, it's not bad but better pho could be had elsewhere.
LittleM
Had the rice vermicelli with beef lemongrass and springroll. Food was decent, it was a big serving (norm for most Vietnamese restaurants) thus I couldn't finish it.
Hilda Lee
Am a regular customer here. I think we need to be fair about expectations when coming to a restaurant like this. In general the food is decent and cheap, and there's always a table available even if you have a large group. The beef pho is nice, the soup has a rich beef flavor and prices are good ($9-11 for rare beef, small medium large). Although the vegetarian one lacks in flavor - I'll never get that again! Customer service is acceptable, staff are not particularly friendly but aren't rude. Overall it's a decent pho place if you're a local.
Jsezhen
It didn't taste very good :( I was sad. Why you no make good tasting food? I make better tasting food and I slow in the head. Pho taste like cardboard left in the rain. I know, I tasted cardboard left in the rain. I sad now.

Will definitely not going back.. !!! And.. Will not suggest any one or friends to come... !!! The soup was tasteless.. it did not make with heart... It did not come with what we ordered.. !! As a staff suppose to listened to "The customer Question" then answered in appropriate way.. but instead.. A staff / owner.. answered in a term of.. the false is in "customer site".. This is the first time I experience such a bad customer service.. !! I would not even want to give a rating if I would able to..
Wingster
Never again. It's the closets Pho house to my work and so convenient, but hardly worth it when I waited 20 minutes for pretty average bowl of pho with stingy sprouts. Staff disinterested, vibe flat, ridiculous system for ordering on paper. Much better Pho available elsewhere in Box Hill
S Fidelis
Not the best Pho in Box Hill even the soup actually not bad at all. Portion not that big just average. Spring roll just okay. Nothing really special. It's just okay.
David Liao
For craving of pho this is the better one in box hill. Can't compare to establishments in Richmond or Springvale but it will do.
Faye
Cheap food. Massive serving. Quick service. Free tea. This is my pho spot in Box Hill! Spring rolls aren't that great though and they have tissue boxes for serviettes which is a little odd...
Food Hussy
Staff not very friendly. Food not made with love. When I went to pay after my lacklustre Pho the waiter did not even speak to me. Feeling a bit miffed.
The Food Traveller
Okayish rare beef pho. The service is pretty good though and i love the tea that they offer. I shall come back to try some spring rolls. Similar to the one in spring vale with the same name!

Clean, fresh and affordable. I have pho every week. Staffs are nice and friendly. you just cant be wrong spending time here. Plan your time to come here as its always busy at peak time (lunch and dinner). Recommended!
Sweet And Sour Fork
My usual order of Pho Special Beef ($9, small) had an incredibly flavoursome soup that boasted a rich beefiness. The spice levels were a bit lower than you’d expect, and I suspect there’s a decent whack of MSG in it as well, but that didn’t change the fact that the broth was delicious. There was a disappointing lack of tripe and sausage, and only half a beef ball, but there was plenty of rare beef and brisket to go around. The overall flavour is noticeably neater than what you get at most pho places, but it was a satisfyingly slurpable bowl of noodles, especially with the spice and tang from a good squeeze of sriracha sauce.

Pho Huong Viet is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants in the heart of Box Hill and while it may not stand tall against the top Vietnamese restaurants in Springvale or Richmond, for a decent Vietnamese meal around the Eastern Suburbs it’s one of the tastier options. Their Pho soup base isn’t as strong as I would have liked, milder but I’d definitely prefer this as compared with Indochine, where I can’t understand it’s popularity. It’s not as clean tasting as some other Pho’s I’ve had either overall I’d say it’s above average.

While Pho Huong Viet doesn’t reach the highs of other Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne, it’s also a bit difficult to find a great one around these parts of town. Though, I would say Pho 888 is the one to beat in Box Hill. Related posts:

Top notch. I eat here often, pho is e excellant - high beef quota and steaming hot broth. Service can be hit or miss but overall consistently great soup

Crucial error. Tried this place based on a high rating from urbanspoon, but mistook it for another shop by the same name.

They mistook my order twice by forgetting the spring rolls I ordered, and spent 20 minutes waiting on them just to add them.

My partner had already finished her meal by the time my fixed order arrived and all the other ingredients were stone cold during the waiting period. Not even so much as an apology for the delay or killing my meal.

For Viet in BH, best go to Tien Dat or Indochine
Red_parasol
Thumbs down. I love Vietnamese food but the beef in my soup was awful and the chicken my partner had was so dry he wasn't able to finish. What a shame :(
Chinziaro9
Simple but good. Simple Pho that hits the spot on a cold Melbourne night. Nothing more but very good.
Bloom
The service was terrible. First they got my order wrong and the pho that I ordered contained things that I didn't expect at all - like beef guts and weird parts. But the staffs were more interested in proving that it was my fault choosing the dish and made huge fuss about it. How do you expect people to guess the ingredients in dishes when there were none written on the menu at all? After all they changed my dish but it was clear that they didn't bother, there were only like 5-6 pieces of meat floating on my pho.

Order the noodles, but not the skewers. $8 for 2 small skewers.

A Standout on the Hill. There is certainly no shortage of restaurants in Box Hill and among Vietnamese cuisine, this restaurant offers outstanding value for exceptional dishes.
So far I have tried a few dishes over 4 visits and will be back to smash through the rest of the menu.
The staff are very friendly and the service is darn quick. Even when I accidently BYO’d beer (despite it being “Wine Only”, they were terrrrrrrifically nice about it, and I got to enjoy some cold brews, which is just awesome with Viet food!!!!
Favorite Dish: Lemon Grass Char grilled pork .... WTF? How do they make it sooooo gooood
Service: Pretty Quick
Staff: Really Nice
Food: Outstanding Flavors
Prices: Outstandingly good value
Authenticity: 5 Chilies out of 5
Coffee: Have not tried yet
Décor: Not bad, Food is too good to notice it anyway

I don't know why this place has bad ratings? Pho is always great; fresh, nice garnishes, reasonably priced. Also consistent service and good drinks selection.

Very loud music. Thought I was in a nightclub. Management refused to turn down music despite request.
Terrible. Don't go unless you want to hearing losd

Not sure what happened here... it was or used to be 'Pho Chu The' with bad ratings... and inconsistently bad.

But NOW... a change of name and maybe new owners? it's actually not bad. Soup piping hot. Soup base although not as flavoursome as Pho Chu The in Richmond or Springvale is good!! Lets see how they go with being consistent.

23/01/17 it's been awhile. It's not bad eating but reckon it's a bit high on anise for my personal liking. YMMV. found it to be saltier than others ..

It's OK. I have not had any Pho in Melbourne that has impressed me (apart from Dandelion, but that is expensive!!!). Huong Viet makes a decent Pho - not outstanding, but it is good enough. Portions are generous for what you pay. Do not order the large size because it is large enough to grow a pot plant in. Service is quick, attentive, and courteous. Nothing wrong with this place - I just wish the broth was more flavoursome.
