Review Red Cup Cafe - Box Hill

Andrew
This is the perfect place for brunch, the servings were generous with high quality ingredients. We ordered the eggs Benedict on top of a potato risto and captains plate. We were blown away by the food and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended.

One of the best breakfasts I have had in my life. Four mushroom is divine. Coffee came out 45min late but I will give it a pass as it was Easter Friday and quite busy. Delicious coffee too I might add….definitely going back again!
Ebony
$5.80 for a dirty mug (filthy on the bottom), coffee only just ok and not at all hot. Took 10 mins to arrive, was not busy at the time. Was ignored by 3 staff members on arrival, stood waiting to order while being looked at and not addressed at all- barista then immediately greeted the people walking in behind me. Staff unwelcoming and unfriendly. Will not be back.

Great eggs, generous serve of salmon on a fantastic potato rosti and just as great industry beans coffee in a lovely relaxed room (at least when we were there early Sunday morning). Nice service too to top it off
Alice C
I had nice baked eggs there today staffs are busy that moment but still give nice friendly services. one little thing is mocha taste a bit weak may can make it bit stronger
Vincent Choi
Generally good experience. Coffee is good and the heated armond pastry is absolutely wonderful.
Alice
A small cosy cafe, with friendly staff, amazing food and quick service. I really enjoyed the mushroom dish.

I don't easily relinquish a 5 star review but in this case it was well earned. The location is a little out on its own away from the huddle of Box Hill Central so I was surprised how busy it was during lunch on a Friday. Staff were friendly but the food was delicious. Prices about normal. 5 stars for me means I WANT to go back. Keep up the good work guys & see you next time.

Now with a bar open and dinner wed to sun it's my go-to place for a relaxing end-of-the-working-week drink of Brunswick bitter with my fried chicken and aioli. Expresso martini and mojito on the list if that takes your fancy.

Used to be our local and favourite joint while we lived in Box Hill. Welcoming staff and the owner very friendly, quick service and really tasty food. I still drop in for a coffee on my way to work.

I am a regular customer at this cafe. Yesterday around, 10.50am me and couple of my friends went to your cafe for coffee catch-up . After taking our coffee order, we seated over there around 30mins and there was no sign of serving our drink. With curiosity we asked the staff( who took our order) ,she replied that coffee machine was having some problem. We were clearly surprised that she even didnt bother to let us know this situation. Anyway, after that she said it would take couple of more minutes to serve our drink. We patiently waited 15 more mins! and people who ordered after us was getting food and drinks , Alas! no coffee on our table till then. I was super embarrassed as I brought my friends to this cafe particularly as I love coffee and food here. Then we had to walk out from cafe without having our weekend drink . I do understand that on weekend it's busy at the store, but it is a normal courtesy to let the customer know that there was some problem and because of that serving coffee will be a bit delayed.

Coffee was like milk and water even though i asked for double shot!! Only to be rudely informed by barista that i should ask for extra shot if i want it strong !!! Shame because muffin was perfect.... Drop the attitude communicate nicely.. plenty of other cafes around the area

This has been our local for 2 years now and we absolutely love the food & especially the coffee! The staff are extremely welcoming and professional. Highly recommend this cafe if you're around the area and want to have a great experience! Love this cafe!

Absolutely beautiful food and service. Delicious burgers, parmas and kids meals. Highly recommend!!!

Brilliant cafe! A fav for brecky whenever we stay in this area. Great coffee, food and service.

We used to frequent Red Cup when we lived in the area a few years ago. The waitress who served us today wasn’t friendly and walked away before I finished ordering. Not kid friendly, no toys or colouring in. Food was ok. Disappointed as it used to be one of the best cafes in the area.

First time visiting for breakfast and couldn't be more impressed. Friendly and fast service, great coffee and good tasty food. 😀
Karen Wilson
Delicious, tasty and generous servings of food and drinks . Very friendly and helpful staff!!

Worst Coffee and hot chocolate ever. Asked for extra hot and was lucky to be luke warm.
Debbie Sanders
Great food, lovely and hot. Really happy they provide wheelchair access to those that are injured. It's never a problem for them to get the ramp & I never feel it's a bother going inside.
Joffre Charles
Great coffee and friendly staff, definitely recommend

Best people, best service, best food! It's that simple!

Can't put a foot wrong, have been a dozen times and never been let down. One of the best breakfasts in Melbourne

Probably the fourth time we've been now. We've been going on Saturday for brekky after dropping our son at a nearby school for a 2 hour class. We take our 7 month old daughter with us. Every time now we have had really good service, great coffee and a meal that pretty much keeps us going to dinner time. We get seated appropriately to suit a pram, and get given a high chair. Just an all round positive experience that we'll continue each Saturday when we can. Thank you 😊

Hands down the best coffee in Box Hill! Consistently smooth and hot with absolutely no bitterness. Nice cakes and pastries too & service with a smile.
Gokulbhai Hirapara
The fritters are devine and amazing coffee, all delivered with smile. Now i am becoming regular here.

Me and my partner used to love coming to this cafe however we were very disappointed today - had to wait 15 minutes simply for a takeaway latte when it was not busy at all, people that got here after us got their coffee way before we got ours. The coffee cup was also very dirty and no explanation was given. Don’t think we will be visiting again.
AaronN
Had a lovely brunch here, service was great and both the apple juice and the eggs Benedict croissant I had were delish. Would definitely come back if in the area.

Best place for cafe food and is my favourite go-to place for coffee. Ordered many items on the menu and everything is delicious. Favourite item I ordered so far was the “copperfield chicken sandwich” but chicken filling is quite inconsistent as sometimes they are very generous with their filling and sometimes there is barely any filling. Another great item is the “Wam burger” and “open steak sanga”. Coffee is the best there too

4.5<br/>We returned to Red Cup this morning and had a most enjoyable coffee while petting all the cute dogs that were hanging outside with their owners. I realised when going to post this review that I hadn’t published my earlier review from March 2019 when Red Cup owners generously invited me in to try out their revised menu. Not sure how this was overlooked but their food was well worth popping in for. I have posted my previous review of the food here below. <br/><br/>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<br/>Previous Review (Mar-19)<br/><br/>4.5<br/>This morning we brunched at red cup, the new owners (6 months new) have injected some new life into the menu which I am excited to try. <br/><br/>We started with a couple of steaming hot coffees, it was such a delight to be served coffee so hot, I was able to take my time and sip to my hearts content. I really enjoyed my coffee this morning, the industry blend was much nicer than the previous beans served.<br/><br/>We decided to cool off with a smoothie and opted for the ‘don’t like short black’. This banana and peanut butter combo goes next level with the inclusion of a shot of espresso, a clever addition that ramps up the flavour. <br/><br/>This morning I started with the Red cup royal, these glamorous looking dish arrived piping hot, the combination of spinach, asparagus, smoked salmon and holindaise was decadent and full of amazing flavours, each element was delicious on its own but seriously tasty when combined together. <br/><br/>We also opted for the Grilled chicken soba noodle salad. The noodles had a delicate sesame flavour that paired perfectly the succulent grilled chicken. I loved the inclusion of large pieces of chilli so I could dial up the heat to my own taste, which I did. <br/><br/>For dessert we chose the Summer waffle. With the brioche esk texture and crunchy exterior these sweet babies really floated my boat. The maple, banana and strawberries and blueberries were the pair of flavour and freshness. <br/><br/>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<br/>Previous Review 2018<br/><br/>3.5<br/>I’m a believer in second chances and it was a pleasant experience at Red Cup today for our coffee and cake orders. They had no trouble with out coffee orders and our various slices and they even heated the escargot & raspberry white choc muffin. It was much quieter in the afternoon than our previous visit which was a little more clunky. <br/><br/>Based on today’s visit would certainly give them another crack for a brunch again soon.

Just came here for a quick coffee. The service was friendly and the cafe was small but clean.<br/>The coffee was nice, but I'm not sure I would come out of my way to come here with friends.<br/>Overall, a positive experience.

Nice little cozy cafe situated about a 10 minute walk from Box Hill Central With plenty of street parking.<br/><br/>We went to Red Cup Cafe on a Sunday around noon. The cafe was busy with almost all the tables were taken. It didn’t take long for us to be greeted at the door and seated down. <br/>Staff were attentive and friendly, they served us with a smile. At times they did seem to be a bit overwhelmed but the cafe was full.<br/><br/>The menu offers a decent selection of breakfast and some lunch options.<br/>I went with the Baked Eggs with a latte, and my partner chose the breakfast board and opted to change the orange juice to an apple juice.<br/><br/>The coffee was quite good, and it came quite quickly after ordering. <br/>The Baked Eggs was okay, heaps of tomato sauce making the dish extremely rich. I felt it needed some more bread to eat with the sauce.<br/>The breakfast board was nice and fresh.<br/><br/>Overall, not a bad experience at Red Cup Cafe, food was okay, and coffee was good!<br/>

Good coffee. That's a good way to start your morning in any cafe. Nice place, you can opt to sit inside or out. And again a cafe in the 'Burbs, servings are good. Makes great eggs. The servings are big too. Massive mugs when you like your coffee big:) Has enough selections for you to think what to get. I come here once in a while as my partner loves having breakfast here.

Nice place and good service. Really recommend the Copperfield Sandwich on the special menu, that basil mayo chicken with avo and beetroot were so yummy!<br/>And Baked egg, using the sourdough bread to spoon spinach, spicy chorizo and mushrooms was so good. The bread also can balance that rich tomato sauce and creamy feta. Coffee and juice were nice too. I'd like to come back to try the others dishes.
Peanut Butter Cup
Wow, basically the perfect coffee. Happy I made the trip a bit away from home for my morning cuppa, great ambience in the place, and almost full on a Thursday morning. Just a great lil suburban cafe, will definitely be back to try food or for more takeaways 💓

Came here on a recommendation from a friend, the cafe was attentive, sat us as soon as we walked in. The menu had really good variation and they could exchange the bread for gluten free to make a lot of the dishes coeliac friendly. I had the chilli scramble which was incredible, the addition of spicy chorizo was fantastic.

Great local vibe~! Delicious All Day Breakfast~! We ordered Superfood Breakfast and WAM Burger both were impressive~! Immunity Boost (Blueberries Smoothies) was great too~! If coffee was better I'd rate 5-star~ However we'd still love to return~

Such a beautiful gem hidden away from the central crowd. I have constantly come back for the specialty grade coffee and food. My favourites are the Mexican Honey Wrap, Thai Beef Salad, Copperfield Sandwich and honestly, I can't stress enough about the Eggs Benny. Have a look at this splendid dish. Definitely a must try.<br/>

Fantastic breakfast. Ordered the chilli eggs and it was beyond delicious, all the ingredients are really fresh. Very nice and cosy place, always busy!<br/>Recommended 👍

This hidden little gem has become my favourite spot for coffee and lunch when I'm in Box Hill. The food is always super quick and delicious, and the service is amazing! Highly recommend the copperfield sandwich, it's become my Tuesday afternoon favourite 😍
Good Food Good Mood
We were invited to Red Cup today and I must say I was wildly impressed. A quiet unassuming little local which I believe has recently had a change in management. The coffee was given a hugely enthusiastic thumbs up from my husband and I was very much enjoying my tropical smoothie which had a lovely dose of mint in there to really freshen it up.<br/><br/>Food wise hubby got the green omelette which ticked all the health boxes from him and was something we hadn’t really come across before. I chose the smashed avocado with a side of smoked salmon because it will always be my go to dish. It did mention feta on the menu but I didn’t encounter any. <br/><br/>Nonetheless the cherry tomatoes, pomegranate and poached egg were all delicious and I appreciated that the bread wasn’t impossible to cut through as it can often be. It also came with a spicy roasted capsicum sauce which was something that differentiated it from the bog standard smashed avo offering you generally encounter. <br/><br/>Our final dish was off the specials menu the copperfield sandwich which was a delightful basil pesto mayo chicken with avo and spinach on multigrain. These amazing flavours were elevated by an outstanding house made beetroot relish. Truly special indeed. The cake selection also boasted some seriously delectable looking treats but I’m still full as I write this at 4pm so we certainly couldn’t fit anymore in at brunch time sadly. Will be thoroughly recommending however and am tickled pink we are nearby

This place does lovely breakfasts! They know how to poach eggs perfectly and consistently. Bless!

If you're looking for a modern cafe in Box Hill, options can be limited.<br/>However, just an easy and enjoyable 10 minute walk down Whitehorse Road from the shopping centre is Red Cup Cafe. <br/>The cafe is quite unassuming as it looks like a tradie's lunch spot from the outside, but dig a little deeper and it's a whole lot more.<br/>Plenty of covered and heated outdoor seating, and inside there are tables around the many nooks and crannys of the converted workshop.<br/>Some of that old charm still exists, with the exposed red brick and timber.<br/><br/>One thing that the cafe is sticking safe to is a classic menu - scones, sticky date pudding, big breakfast, burgers, etc.<br/>I went for a couple dishes that you can't really go wrong with:<br/><br/>* Baked Eggs: brought out just before the yolks set, the rich and sweet tomato sauce hides slices of salty chorizo. Crumbled feta cheese mellowed out the dish. Delicious using the toasted bread to spoon things up. Excellent dish!<br/><br/>* Four Mushrooms: so many earthy elements of this dish work well together - mushrooms, thyme, truffle and the dukkah is an perfect pairing. Crack a little salt over to taste and it's very satisfying!<br/><br/>* Green Smoothie: don't be afraid, you can't taste the kale! It's nutty, with a predominately banana flavour and a hint of sweetness from the dates. <br/><br/>* Strong latte: for me, the flavour wasn't as "bold" as I'm used to, and the milk was steamed a little on the thin side.<br/><br/>After a good meal, the walk back to the shopping area is welcome.<br/>What's really interesting is the live music on Friday nights, which should be awesome.<br/>Thanks to the team for inviting me!

Got the breakfast board this morning at redcup and it was so good! Comes with orange juice, granola and avo toast with a poached egg <br/>Good value and delicious

As I was invited I won't comment on the service other than to say that this place was really busy. <br/><br/>The size of the dishes were BIG, in fact they are some of the biggest dishes that I’ve seen. <br/><br/>I ordered a Cajun Chicken Burger which had Cajun spiced chicken breast, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato and siracha mayo. This burger was awesome, and it wasn’t greasy at all. <br/><br/>The ingredients were fresh and tasty. Yummo! <br/><br/>My partner ordered a Mojo Rojo which was smashed avo on multigrain toast w radicchio, pomegranate, tomatoes, Persian feta and a poached egg!! Phew lol <br/><br/>Oh and a potato roti on the side haha <br/><br/>This dish was also really good, w everything balancing so well. The potato roti was crispy and home made. Delicious. <br/><br/>This place is a walk from the main shopping centre of box hill, about 1km but definitely worth a visit.
Quince And Cheese
Red Cup Cafe was bustling when I visited on a late Sunday morning. The spacious venue isn't in Box Hill's major strip, but instead tucked around the corner, making it feel even more suburban than it actually is (in a great way). The staff are extremely attentive, there's art on nearly all walls, an assortment of delicious-looking housemade pastries fill the front case. I didn't try any, as the savoury fare was more than enough to satisfy me. <br/><br/>I shared two dishes with my partner - The zucchini fritters (generous in size with a healthy dose of avocado and halloumi) and the green omelette (a gorgeous-looking, veggie-heavy plate of egs, pine nuts and goat's cheese). The egg atop the fritters was poached perfectly and the yoghurt sauce was a nice addition. The omelette was a much simpler dish that is great for anyone trying to be healthy without going hungry or forgoing flavour. <br/><br/>To match the colour scheme, I had to try the matcha latte. I love that it's made with almond milk by default and had just enough (but not too much) honey to cover the grassy matcha flavour. My soy flat white was also really nice. <br/><br/>While there's heaps of dining in and around Box Hill, the cafe scene isn't overly abundant. It's great that Red Cup exists to fill that niche. Given their diverse menu to suit all tastes and their great customer service, it's definitely a local gem.
Savvy And Lifestyle
Came here on a sunny Saturday over the weekend. When I first stepped in I was greeted by their lovely staff which was very welcoming to me. I was eyeing off one of the best seats in the house by the window and glad they reserved it for myself and my plus 1.<br/><br/>This place was quite busy on a Saturday afternoon everyone was enjoying the weather, was worried coming here being in Box Hill I didn't know where I was going to park etc however it's located away from the Busy Box Hill centre itself which is good, easy to get a park.<br/><br/>I opted for the zucchini fritters with a fresh orange juice which went down quite well it was so refreshing. I also added a side of smoked salmon which was well needed. My plus one opted for a latte and juice and a breakfast with mushrooms, toast, 2 poached eggs with hollondaise sauce. Both meals were quite a decent size and we're cleverly designed, well suited and quite pretty on presentation. Overall I had an exceptional service. I'll definitely be back thank you for inviting me.

Well hello there! Did you know this cafe is now open till later. Offering live music and a dinner menu! Its a small but beautiful venue! The service here is great as the staff are attentive. Great array or drinks fron beer on tap to exceptional coffee. A great simple menu which was really well executed and pretty much flawless. Sometimes its good to offer honest simply food well done! Excited about trying brunch here next time. Do yourself a favour and get yourself out to boxhill and try this hidden gem

Came by here to have coffee some time ago. The coffee came a large serving in a “bucket” which is a relatively big metal jug. Great for sitting to talk and we enjoyed the coffee. Would go back to try the food next time.

Worst brunch I have ever had. My husband and I ordered a captain plate. There was no taste at all and too much oil. 2 pieces of bacon, 2 eggs, 1 piece of bread, a little bit mushroom and tomato, really bad taste for 22.5 dollars. I asked for some hollandise sauce to add some flavor because the original taste was really baddddddd. They charge me extra 4 dollars for the added sauce.<br/>Just the worst brunch ever. I will never come back again.
Hangry Horace
We came here for brunch on a weekday. The place was pretty busy at 10.30am. We decided to sit outside because the weather was perfect. We ordered scrambled eggs on toast and the mushroom dish. Unfortunately, I wasn't wow-ed. The mushroom dish was lack lustre and flavours were predictable. The cream cheese did not tie the dish together and was too heavy. I will not be rushing to return. Service was friendly though.
Lpar0002
Ordered the deconstructed sushi which was on the specials menu. It came out with sliced cucumber, grated carrot, half an avocado, small serve of rice and an entire sheet of plain Nori and over salted cured salmon sliced. As a special I thought it would have more flavour, but the nothing on the plate was seasoned and tasted like a side salad you would eat at a pub. The nori was especially hard to eat as it was simply a sheet folded in half. The dish had so much potential but lacked flavour and quality I was expecting from a special and at the price point.
David Asher
Wow, what a great vibe, excellent coffee and the food! I had a great smashed avo with egg and a bit of chilli sauce. So so good. What more can I say, go here, you won't be disappointed.
AmomymousEat
Can’t believe this place hasn’t received higher ratings! From the very first experience, I was greeted by a warm and friendly waiter who kindly found our group of 5 a table indoor as requested. Whilst waiting, we were offered an outdoor table. For those who enjoy a bit of sun but dislike the chilly early spring breeze, there are also throws or blankets available to keep warm outdoor. The waiter took our orders for coffee whilst waiting. We felt we were looked after very well on a busy Sunday brunch time. <br/><br/>I ordered baked eggs! It was so yummy and you actually get decent amount of chorizo and not some quarter or half chorizo as you would get at other places. My friends ordered chili eggs and scrambled eggs, none of which had any complaints about. <br/><br/>I have no qualms about returning to this place in the near future. And would recommend others to try its baked eggs too. Well done for such great service in a small town cafe.

Nice place to have a good brunch, away from the street rushness. Great coffee Good food Nice presentation. Staff could be a bit more attentive
Mark Run
Had a coffee and muffin, the coffee was good, the service was acceptable but the muffin was almost inedible. It was just mush with a terrible flavour. There was two of us and without prompting each other we both agreed it was the worst muffin we had ever tasted
Anthonywilliamstown
Although it didn't appear to be all that busy we waited 45 minutes for our order only to be told they'd lost our docket. In the meantime we had a glass of wine served in a glass with lipstick marks around the rim and a couple of mediocre coffees. After informing the waitress that we weren't happy to wait any longer for our food, we settled the bill - they unapologetically charged us full price for the coffee and wine.
LC
Came here for a quick beverage on my day off, had the soy chai latte and was enticed by the muffins that I was informed were straight out of the oven! I had the raspberry and white chocolate muffin which was very nice! It was slightly undercooked in the centre but I still enjoyed the muffin nevertheless! Was such a delicious muffin and chai that I know I will be back time and time again! The soy chai latte was also really really well made and tasted absolutely divine as some cafes it’s a hit and miss but this one was done very well the first time and made a really good impression! See you soon Red Cup cafe!!
Tabb
Would highly recommend having a coffee here! Always have good coffee and it’s consistent. Food here is average, meals can be touch and go. Have been here when meals were good and also when they were well below average.
Catherine Durham
The muffins at Red Cup are second to none! I’m now a regular and love chatting to one of the new waiters Tim who is always super cheerful and up for a chat - nothing is too much for Tim!
Jordan Rutherford
Came for a coffee with my wife and kids after my mother in-laws funeral. We were delighted with the service by Tim our waiter who was very warm and friendly, he really made my day! They were very happy to cater to my gluten free, vegan diet which is unusually hospitable. I have an appointment at a hairdresser in box hill next week and will be sure to return to Red Cup to make a day of it. 5 stars!
Rebecca Chelsea
Best raspberry and white chocolate muffins EVER. Great service- chatted to a nice waiter named Tim, very friendly and attentive and made sure everything was just right for our big group. Highly recommend.
Ben Ramsay
We had an excellent waiter (Tim) who was quick with our orders and had a genuine smile. <br/><br/>The Raspberry White Chocolate Muffins are the best this side of the Nullabor. <br/><br/>A great cafe.
Miss Sage Sugar
I decided to have the ‘Captain Planet – potato, pumpkin and pea, rocket, tomato and pumpkin chutney, smoky capsicum sauce, charcoal bun, onion rings ($21.50)’. It was a fabulous burger and those crispy onion rings were to die for!
Luke
Had dinner here with friends. Laid back, friendly, good cafe-style food and a nice array of tap beers, bottled beer and wine. Guitarist in the corner doing his thing. Staff were wonderful. Would recommend.
Victor Cheng
I only got the regular sized coffee, which was good. I can't comment on the larger sized ones, as most places tend to end up being way too milky.<br/>We ordered the baked eggs and the omelette. Definitely prefer the baked eggs.
Caff Fiend
Don't know why they are busy. Definitely there are no other competition in that area. Coffee was lack of flavor and burnt. Food has no presentation and taste average.
Springsfield
Disappointing to say the least. Expensive price tag but below average food. Ordered the WAM and HOT SACHA BURGER and an almond Flat white. Took forever to get some service and forever for the food to arrive. The coffee had a weird aroma to it, passable but not the best. The Hot Sacha burger is watery, liquidy, and it made my burger soggy. The pickled Jalapeño and chillie did not save the burger but added to the sogginess. The WAM burger was okay it's regular breakfast in a form of a burger. I wished they'd use a brioche rather than a regular burger. Overall it was not impressive experience.
The Gastronaut
One of the finest Cafes in Box Hill. I tried their Sticky Date pudding and it was awesome!<br/>The staff is very friendly and make you feel welcome.
Taeyeon's Hamster
Having frequently driven pass and noticing the large number of customers sitting outdoors, I finally visited this cosy café located in Box Hill with friends on a rainy weekend. Despite of the rainy day, people were still seated outdoors under umbrella cover. We chose to sit indoors. As soon as I walked in, I realised the simple yet unique interior design, even a bike hanging from the ceiling. <br/><br/>Customer service was not bad, but nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered the French Toast. At first it tasted amazing as the mixture of vanilla ricotta cream, maple golden syrup and Nutella hit my sweet craving, and the dried apricot and berries gave a fresh alternative to the sweetness. However, I would have preferred more of the fruits to give it better balance as after a few bites, it became too sweet. <br/><br/>The dishes here are reasonably priced, however, the coffee prices are considered more expensive compared to other cafes. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at this café and interested in trying other dishes.
Georgia
Staff were quite rude when paying and when asked to use the toilet!! Although the muffin was very nice and organic!! Hot choclate was very nice as well!!
Madi.hough
Disgusting service. Staff forgot my meal and didn't apologise. Told them I didn't want it anymore and they laughed. Still no apology or discount for their mistake. <br/>Absolutely disgusting and the owner should be ashamed of their incompetent staff. <br/>
Iryna Sakhatovska
I came here with a group of friends in the middle of the day for brunch. There was ample space, and we were seated at a lovely large table for the four of us. I ordered the Baked Eggs with chorizo, chilli, tomato, spinach & parmesan cheese ($19.50) and a Chai Latte ($5.80). I enjoyed the dish, it was very large, filling and delicious. The Chai Latte I found to have very little chai flavour and tasted like milk. The service was absolutely lovely, especially one lady in particular. My biggest complaint is the prices - almost $6 for a chai latte is incredibly overpriced, and the $19.50 for the dish is a stretch - a fairer price would be around $13.
Annie
I got the soup and it was super oily. The bread tasted really bad because of the burnt cheese. Service was not great but food and decor was pretty
The Breakfast Bandit
Quite a nice little cafe in an out of the way place up from the Box Hill library. One of the more expensive cafes in the area, the red cup has solid food that delivers on taste and presentation. The staff are friendly and welcoming and willing to answer questions about the menu without any issues.
FoodHedonist
I like the fact that it's on a corner with ample of parking. Has a nice open airy feel to it. Ordered mushroom and feta dish with sweet onion. I didn't quite like it - was way too sweet for my liking. A few bites and then I was struggling to finish. My friend however loved it. Coffee was average and they forgot to get our second coffee order. It's a decent cafe overall. I think other dishes might be better. Since I live far away and don't usually come to Boxhill doubt I'll be back anytime soon.

Have been looking for a good cafe in box hill for a while, Was told about this cafe. Will defiantly be back! Coffee is beautiful and staff are lovely!
Mrs Lavender
The quantity is huge lol we had the chicken liver Pete and beer batter fried chicken , tea & coffee, we assumed is something small( as the menu says) but end up very full . The guy had the burger next to us says the size of the burger is bigger than he though too lol we were thinking the price is a bit higher than the ordinary cafe , but in considering the quantify of the food , it's not over price at all , friendly service, away from the noisy box hill central . We like it . The food is good .
Who Knows?
Best service ever with attentive waiters/waitresses. Great food particularly the baked beans and pancakes. Would highly recommend people coming here.
Frank Di Staso
we visited this cafe last week for breakfast with a group of 4. The restaurant was dirty floors ad tables. Once we ordered it took over an hour for breakfast to come to come, when we questioned the owner he was very rude and arrogant will never go there again.
Hungry Polar
Been here a few times but we've moved to another suburb so it's been a few months since we've visited this cafe. Love the ambience of this place but the food can be a bit on the pricey side. Service is good and often crowded on the weekends.<br/>Two things we love about this place would be the large strawberry and white choc muffin and the huge mug of coffee for close to $7.
Caz Melb
Had lunch there on a beautiful sunny day. It was a large group of us and they put us in the back room which was nice and spacious. We noticed that the water glasses were old and cloudy. Not impressed... <br/><br/>I had a WAM burger. Very big burger but no chips or sides served with the $18.50 burger. We bought chips separately. A large sized chips was not very large. The burger was very bland, didn't really enjoyed it. One of us opted for a 'naked' chicken burger, ie without the bun. And it was served literally just the chicken and the amount of salad that would've been served with a normal chicken burger, for the same price. The hot chili beef burger was served falling apart. Half of the pattie was hanging out the burger, not very good presentation. The standard of this place has gone down since the last time I went years ago. Don't think I'd be going back. <br/><br/>Also, if you are thinking of using the Entertainment Book, please keep in mind, the lady said they don't follow the rules of use, and will only allow 1 voucher per table, regardless of how many diners!
Dessert-holic
Generous quantity but a little bit overprice with the quality they serve... ordered a burger with veggie petty, bread and veggies was alright but the petty was too dry. Saw somebody else ordered honey chia tea, it looks quite attractive to me, but I suppose it suite two ppl but for one person only , it's too expensive so only ordered a standard coffee instead 😖 also ordered a chicken salad but the pickles were too salty with rackets to finish them all ....

Stayed at a motel nearby & found myself in need of a decent coffee, & the red cup did not dissapoint. When my other half wakes up we will be going there for breakfast. The current menu has not been updated to this app, the new one looks even better.

First of all the coffee today was absolutely delicious! A little disappointed that they didn't do breakfast meals, but I made my own eggs my way. The add ons are 4 dollars each, which I thought was a little higher than usual. 4 dollars for an add on of spinach?? Come on! Other than that staff were friendly, atmosphere was pleasant and the food was cooked well.

Cafe has taken a serious downturn .<br/><br/>My girlfriends meal was brought out 15 minutes before mine so by the time I got mine here was cold.<br/><br/> My chicken burger was clearly rushed as the chicken breast was sliced to try and cook it quicker while the supposed toasted bread was uncooked. <br/><br/>Now that they have stopped serving breakfast menu after 12pm I don't think we will be attending here anymore

Fantastic!! First of all props on the customer service. The staff are always welcoming and engaging and seem to really take pride in their work. Beautiful coffee and breakfasts. Love the decor and design of the cafe.. think chapel street in box hill.

I've been here for coffee in the past, which was decent but nothing outstanding. But last night I was here for a function and found out the food here is absolutely delicious. <br/><br/>I ordered a chicken breast with pesto, beans and some kind of mash. The chicken breast was not dry AT ALL; the mash was delicious and beans were fresh, crunchy and well-cooked. Overall the dish was well presented and flavors and textures went well together. <br/><br/>I also had dessert which was a brownie with crumble and cream. It came in a huge portion with ganache and cream, and was rich, dense and delicious. Only negative was it was slightly dry - would've been better with slightly more cream. <br/><br/>Staff were all very friendly and attentive, service was efficient. <br/><br/>Overall was really impressed with the food and service, and would love to be back to try their other food during the day!

Food 1.5: we didn't have the breakfast meals... beetroot chocolate brownie is delicious! Not too sweet and it's got texture! Good ☕️ <br/>Service 1: lovely<br/>Decors 1: ok ... I like the picture decors. Overall, it's a family friendly relaxing cafe 😎

I was lured here by the conveniently located bike rack and the possibility of making it my local cafe. I am afraid I can't say that I can review the food or coffee as I was seated upon arrival and then was completely ignored for over 20 minutes as others were served around me. It wasn't a busy time and they didn't even take my order or offer me water or a menu. I subsequently took my business elsewhere and had a wonderful breakfast. I would not recommend this place, especially if by yourself.

Came to this cafe with a colleague for lunch. Was a bit of a walk from the main drag of Box Hill, but this gave a more relaxed feel than the hustle and bustle of Station St. The food was also quite different from other Box Hill offerings, featuring classics you might expect to see at a hip inner-city cafe, like Eggs Benedict and Smashed Avocado. I ordered the Baked Eggs, while my colleague ordered the WAM Burger, and we ordered chips to share. The food that came was notable for its generous portions by Melbourne cafe standards, particularly the WAM Burger, that my colleague described as 'huge'. The quality of the food was also decent, with the baked eggs coming with a delicious spicy sauce and plenty of chorizo, and the chips being nice and crunchy. The service was also very attentive. Prices were expensive by Box Hill standards, where you can generally get lunch for 2/3 of what we paid, though they were standard for cafe fare. A 25% Entertainment Book voucher did sweeten the deal, however!

Having come here a couple of times already decided the try the food on this occasion. Ordered the tassie salmon potato rosti and the Wam burger. The tassie salmon potato rosti itself was quite nice with the salmon cooked well and if anything, the potato rosti wasn't as crispy as I would have liked. The Wam burger tasted great and had all the textures you want in a burger but was quite messy to eat. The chips could have been better as I found them to be quite hard and a tad under seasoned. Both were not bad given the price. <br/>Scones are always a winner here and I will continue to come back for these along with their coffees and chocolate milkshake

Was there a while ago for brunch with a friend. The service there never disappoints me with the friendly staff and cozy cafe atmosphere. Had the Eggs Benedict and man it was delicious! The egg was poached to perfection, the thick cut ham, toasted bread and that smooth hollandasie sauce was divine. My friend had the pancakes and they looked pretty good as well. Highly recommend this place for a nice brunch date. <br/><br/>*Also the coffees here are amazing. My favourite is the chai latte, the spices infused into the milk is perfect for a cold day in Melbourne.

Busy little cafe with nice tasting takeaway Latte. Parking difficult. The food looks good, especially all the muffins, will have to come back for brekky!

Pleasant and efficient. Solid coffee game and the eggs bene hit the spot. The place felt "lived in" and comfortable while the walls boasted local artist's works. Recommended if you're in the area.
The Whippeteers
When this Whippeteer and Wasabi "the super pup" stumbled serendipitously upon the "Red Cup Café" and we called to mind the advertising sign at the DOG PARK, that was it! We were in. WHO EVER SAID ADVERTISING DOESN'T WORK?!?!<br/><br/>The service and place were really really good. There was cool jazz music playing. Warm sun coming thru the windows facing east and north. The TOILET has dictionary pages as wallpaper! AWESOME!!<br/><br/>The coffee was FABULOUS. Best of the week.<br/>NO SMOKING in the east side outdoor seating area √<br/>SUPERB location in service lane off Whitehorse Road = easy access.<br/><br/><br/>

Staff are friendly here, space is quirky.  The Chocolate Pancakes (a special) were huge, seriously, serves three huge, my daughter wasn't able to finish, but she did  enjoy it.  I had a pumpkin roesti with a poached egg and a pesto.  The poachie was well cooked, but the dish was very oily and burnt on the bottom.  Had the makings of a good dish, there was a generous amount of salmon.  Perhaps the problem is that it comes out in the dish it's cooked in, and there's just too much heat still in the pan - it's certainly super-heated and difficult to eat for a long time.  The tea options are more interesting than usual, with a special chai option, but I wasn't fond of their Earl Grey.

Interesting to read everyone's reviews. I haven't eaten here, but have ordered take away coffee a few times. I love the coffee there and always get served promptly with polite staff.<br/>It is a bit on the expensive side for coffee prices but happy to pay a little extra for good coffee

The only reason why this cafe received a rating above 1 is because I have come in the past (a year or so ago) and had an okay experience, as well as the waiter who served us on this occasion being absolutely lovely. Other than that, the food my friends and I ordered wasn't tasty at all. In particular my dish- despite looking really nice, I could not ear my dish which was pumpkin rosti with spinach, salmon and pesto olive oil. It was mostly burnt and the burnt flavor came through the entire dish, in addition to it being extremely oily. My friend had a scone which was too cake- like and dry for her liking. The ham toasted sandwich ordered was also very buttery and heavy and served with mayonnaise which just didn't make sense. <br/>Finally as I was leaving to pay, I spotted some huge muffins that looked appertising. I got one to go and had a bite only to discover that the blueberry muffin was a weird take on a muffin- not sure what the flour or base of the muffin was, but it just tasted wrong. I ended up throwing it out.

Worst brunch/cafe experience ever. Inedible... $66.45 for two people, sore stomach thrown in for free. Avoid at all costs, I feel sorry for the wait staff
Shoo Shoo
So I've been to Red Cup a few times, years ago, but stopped going because the choices started to lose their appeal. I decided to try it again because recently I passed by, it was swarming with people & they had extended the outside area. I thought maybe things had changed & the menu had improved.<br/><br/>Looking at the menu, it was quite limited in the variety. There were lots of egg-based dishes, with the non-egg dishes lacking excitement. It was also a bit poorly designed to read, as it was hard to distinguish each dish. Looking at the costs of dishes, it borders on being pricey.<br/><br/>Our order consisted of the potato/pumpkin rosti special, a scone, and the HCT (ham, cheese, and tomato).<br/>Although the rosti special was a good portion size, the dish was oily and slightly burnt. They used to do a pumpkin dish years ago (similar looking to the rosti) which would be something I'd come back for, but this was far from that. The scone and HCT weren't bad, but weren't anything to write home about either.<br/><br/>Some positives though: my fresh orange juice was delicious and the service was lovely. The coffee was pretty decent too. It seems to have a regular crowd that enjoy it, so there must be more positives. The location is nice but I'm not going back here in a hurry.

Ok food however the prices are out of control. There is absolutely nothing that justifies how expensive this place is. The quality is average and the service is also nothing to write home about. Coffee is also decent at best. Unfortunately there is not much competition in the box hill area.

Staff are always so kind and friendly every time I come here, and the food is consistently quite good. A good little spot to have an easy lunch or coffee with friends, and the design of the space is really lovely.

First impression was good. This cafe has plenty of seating outside on the footpath and the decor inside is really hip and trendy. The staff were all very nice. The food was good. I had the BLT sandwich, it was good. Not great, but good. The only downside is the prize. My guest and I had a sandwich each and a milkshake each and the total was around the $50 dollar mark. I thought it was a bit expensive for what we had. Overall, nice staff, nice decor, food was alright but didn't justify the price I paid.

Ordered the humongous Break-The-Fast which was sufficient to fill 2 on a sunny morning. I loved the spongy large pieces of turkish bread but I wished there were more tomatoes or mushrooms.Overall taste was 7/10 for this dish.Latte ordered was weak and does not warrant the price I paid. I reckon this will be my only visit.Too much hype for nothing :(

Stopped by for coffee and muffins today. Service is friendly and efficient. Coffee is of a good standard. Unfortunately the muffins we selected - raspberry and white chocolate and savoury - were disastrous. They had been produced from the same base which had a sweet grainy consistency not unlike cornmeal. But for the flecks of green spinach and dots of tomato and feta cheese, it could have been the same muffin - it didn't taste savoury at all. They were both saturated with oil so that the consistency after warming was mushy. I felt sick soon afterwards and have not been able to eat for the rest of the day. We had the same experience with their muffins a few years ago and were curious to see if things had improved. Sadly not.

Went here once with my parents for a brunch/brekky as it's near their house and was highly recommended by them. It's in an unusual location, on the Maroondah highway, but was very busy for a weekday morning. The food was way overpriced but of good quality and imaginative dishes. The bottled drinks, even mineral water, were quite expensive too. The service was okay and the servings sizes were fairly generous. Try the avocado and eggs on toast with roast capsicum! There's also a selection of ENORMOUS muffins on the counter - so tempting.

It was good at the beginning<br/><br/>I've been going to this place since the opening days, good location, main drag, a little far from the hustle & bustle of Box Hill Central, across from Box Hill Hawks and much easier street parking.<br/><br/>The place, which I believe used to be an Electrical Appliances Repair Centre has been converted into a pleasant, almost serene place to hang out overlooking the traffic on Maroondah Hwy.<br/> A welcome sign, not too much Asian F&B influence, a bit of a variety.<br/><br/> <br/>Service and Offerings; whether be Coffee, Sweets and Food used to be great and enjoyable, it has slowly gone to non-pleasant and mediocre.<br/><br/>I'm not too sure what happened between the Opening days and Now days, but they need to get moving back in the right direction.

Red Cup is a large cafe in the Box Hill area, close by to the shopping district just past the Town Hall. The experience I had here was average, and there are definitely some improvements that could be made in terms of service. The cafe itself is very spacious and big, with a rustic feel due to the brick wall decor in place. There's plenty of seating both inside and out, so perfect for this summer weather. It was quite packed when we went, and felt quite lively with all the chatter from the tables of people. Service was okay, but the staff could have been more attentive in our opinion - I asked for mushrooms as extras with my dish and got spinach instead, and also, I was not done eating when the staff tried to take my plate away without asking first if I was still going. Also, when we first sat down, we said we didn't want any coffee/drinks, and the staff looked at us in confusion for awhile, before asking if we wanted to order food, which I was a bit surprised about.

Box Hill is screaming for a good caffe. The first place to open and do a good job will make a killing. Unfortunately Red Cup is that place - not because its good but because there is no competition.<br/>If you want to make money from coffee in Box Hill, just open a caffe, have plenty of room, good prices and be nice to customers and of course make good coffee. Then all the Red Cup customers will come to you!
Expensive Delicious Habit.
My coffee wasn't bad- the top tasted very strong/burnt but the rest was nice. I ordered the eggs florentine with added salmon. It came out pretty quickly and was nicely presented. I just didn't love the taste for some reason. I might return for a takeaway coffee.

Being a cafe owner myself and a mum of 2 boys under 3years old, I really appreciate a consistent cup of coffee, which is why almost every morning I get my boys ready and we head down to the Red Cup for a coffee and sometimes brekky. A perfect strong coffee every time. Delicious, wholesome food every time. Professional and accommodating staff who know what they're doing every time.. Awesome stuff!!

Terrible coffee, bland food, rubbish service that have no idea what is going on. One young man was very friendly however. Food was not worth the hour and a half we had to wait. Will never return here. Complete waste of time and money.

Very average coffee! There are many more better places arouns box hill to have coffee. It's a good place to chill outside during a sunny day though! They should also serve syrup with cold coffees instead of sugar as it doesn't dissolve!! The hosts are really friendsly though.
Rainbow
I have read other people's negative reviews and I can't understand why. Every time I have been here the staff are super friendly, the food is yum and the coffee is one of the best in Melbourne!

This place is everything you don't want in a cafe. Rude management, bland food and no atmosphere. Very disappointing and will not be going back.
MoMo
Love this place, it has a great atmosphere, staff and very friendly and helpful. the food is great value for money, I ordered some scrambled eggs with avocado on the side thinking I would be just getting a few slices of avocado and they gave me a hole avocado!
Aphantasia
Food is goodt, Serving is a bit lacking for the price it charges.<br/><br/>Scotch fillet on the menus is not scotch but cheap rump, other than that, food is pretty good. <br/><br/>The big down side will be the price, its too expensive for their serving size.
Love Food
Food was nice staff were attentive very relaxed atmosphere and great coffee. Great for a local cafe in box hill beats going to the plaza. Muffin was a little big though
