Review Luyang Dumpling House - Box Hill

Dan W
Visited last night for the 1st time. There were some free tables so we ate in. Service is quick and on point. I really liked their menu and what they had to offer. Dumplings were 5 star and the rice noodles with beef was great. I will definitely be back and will be adding this place to my rotation. Keep up the good work team šŸ‘šŸ»

On the hunt for best dumplings in Melbourne and this place is one of the highest rated in box Hill and have been here in business for at least 1 decade and a half. Came in and was greeted warmly like and seated, offered tea complimentary. Ordered the won't on in chilli oil, it was amazing! Soft and juicy! And the crispy chilli oils complemented its softness. Also ordered the pork dumplings, was expecting it to be juicier, but it was pan fried to perfection crispy all over, so it shined in its own way without the juiciness! I would rate this 4.5/5! Must visit if you are around the area!

An easy Friday night dinner option with an extensive list of dumplings and main dishes that can make deciding on what to get tricky. I almost always end up with the fried Beijing pork dumplings and love to drizzle that wonderful chilli oil and dip vinegar. Kellie had steamed prawn dumplings and a generously served kway teow noodles which had a good taste of the wok and large pieces of the bbq pork that I enjoy. This came out in an instant ā€¦ almost like they knew what we would order before we did. We ordered the egg custard buns for dessert with that yummy sweet coconut egg custard so hot we had to give them a minute or two to cool down. Really friendly helpful service which honestly surprised me as it can be so hit and miss in the box hill eateries.

Been here a couple times now and every time the fried dumplings have been consistently well cooked and delicious. Fried golden brown, dough is cooked perfectly that itā€™s not too thin or thick but has a nice bite to it and itā€™s not too oily too. Thatā€™s just the dumplings, all the other dishes that weā€™ve ordered have been full of flavor and have not disappointed yet. Consistently great food, great dumplings, great value. Highly recommend.

Food is pretty good and I can tell chefs experience is pretty good. And this place all dishes are heated up very strongly and all food is very hot which is good. But my opinion is its not yet a 5 star restaurant. Would come back next time to try other dishes!!! Eventually this place would be one of my rotations when dining out!!!

Amazing experience! Dumplings were so juicy and flavourful, owner and customer service was so welcoming and warm, the shop was clean and calm, overall loved the experience here would recommend.

Amazing fried chicken and prawn dumplings, will be back again!

Delicious food and very quick service. Arrived at about 6pm and the restaurant was about half full. Dishes took about 10 mins to arrive after ordering which is very reasonable. The dishes were tasty and very authentic. However the red bean pancake tasted store bought which was a little upsetting but I guess lots of places do that for their desserts. All in all a great place with well priced menu items. Would call in advance if going in a group larger than 4 as seating is quite limited and fills up pretty quickly at peak meal times.

It has become our go to place for delicious dumplings in the area. We love the option of steam dumplings here as most places only do boiled and fried. We have also tried their wonton and shanghaiese noodles, they were both nice. Owners are really polite and friendly. Very humble people. Highly recommend!!!

I love everything about this place. The food is amazing and itā€™s very cheap. This is me and my partners fav place and we drive 40 mins to eat here. Highly recommend the satay beef on rice. šŸ˜„šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

Have been a regular here since my uni days, the dumplings and rice cakes in particular are great and a favourite of the group when we go, price is awesome for the serving sizes, other dishes on the menu area also good! thank luyang team :)

Delicious pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings ! Always friendly and happy to serve !

Xiao Long Bao: A decent snack for my friend and I. It was pretty tasty at a good price. However I found the dumpling itself to be quite thick compared to other places such as Shanghai Red. Additionally I would have liked for there to be more soup in the dumplings.

Service: The girls serving had a cold uncalled for attitude. They seemed as though they preferred for us not to be there. The exchange of payment progress was quite awkward as she made no eye contact and was honestly quite rude.

2.5
Too much msg in the dumpling mixture and the dumpling wrapper is doughy . The food here is fairly cheap but as I cannot eat too much msg this place is not ideal .

I ordered their steamed pork dumplings, and they were quite filling and satisfying. Also really worth it for the money spent - $6 for 8 pcs. Iā€™d definitely return for a quick lunch if Iā€™m in the area.

3.5
Came into Luyang Dumplings for an early dinner straight after work. Iā€™ve been past this place later in the evenings and the place has been packed so was lucky to get in ahead of the rush. It ain so stylish inside but highly functional as all you need is chopsticks anyway.

Service was direct and to the point and as I was just after some dumplings to fill my tummy on this occasion so ordered a serve of steamed Shanghai Xiao Long Bao. it was cash only so lucky I had some dusty notes in my wallet.

They came out after about 10 or so minutes and were super tasty and full of soup liquid. I normally find at least a couple get caught on the bottom of the steamer but was luck today and managed to eat the lot without any liquid spills. I must be getting better at eating XLBā€™s or these ones were made well.

A delicious easy no frills end of the week dinner option.

Went here as everyone was saying how great the dumplings are here. I went with a friend and we got the vegetable spring rolls, spring onion pancake to share. I got the fried pork dumplings & my friend got the Xiao- long bao
The spring rolls were nice. Just your standard spring roll, nothing extravagant about them. The spring onion pancake was good but couldnā€™t taste much spring onion. The dumplings were awesome! Really juicy & had lots of flavour. I did think thiugh the xiao- long bai were nicer than the dumplings. Altogether it was only $30ish but they only take cash!

This place has been around in Box Hill for many years but it is not a stand out. Service is always perfunctory and it's one of those places where you duck in, eat quickly then duck out.

I had the noodle soup with mince pork and tofu. It looked quite attractive with the colourful frozen vegetables but it was not exactly tasty. The soup was high-ish on the MSG scale and the noodles were quite bland.

Not a great noodle experience.

We came here one afternoon, hungry for some Chinese takeaway and we decided to try this local Chinese restaurant, Luyang Dunpling House. First off, customer service was non existence. The woman serving us was blunt and has absolutely no manner. She would give us stares and gave us that ā€˜I donā€™t careā€™ kind of attitude. We ordered and waited around for our meal. We ordered the the pork and chicken pan fried dumplings, the Shanghai fried noodles and custard buns.

The pork and chicken dumplings were quite average, still tasty tho. Iā€™ve had a lot better at some places. The shanghai fried noodles wasnā€™t strong in flavour, pretty bland to be honest. You can see in the photo itā€™s not as dark as some other places. There wasnā€™t much sauce as well. and the custard buns - Iā€™m like 100000% sure all Chinese restaurant use the same supplier but I was enjoy them. Whatā€™s a plus for me is that this place is very inexpensive.

Overall, there are better dumpling places around.
YummyMummy
Dropped in for a quick lunch with the family and we werenā€™t disappointed!!! In fact we ordered too much and had to get a takeaway container (bit annoyed that cost extra!! It was only 30c but that seemed very petty).
We had soup dumplings (soupy and great!), steamed dumplings (delicious too) and wonton (which I wouldnā€™t get again as they were quite tough) as well as seafood combination crispy noodles which were also great!
For a quick, cheap and cheerful meal weā€™ll be back... but wonā€™t order too much as the token cost of a take away container was a petty way to end the meal....

Iā€™ve been here plenty of times over the past decade. If youā€™re looking for delicious yet affordable Chinese food, this is the place to be. I love the fried pork dumplings as they never disappoint, the drunken chicken and the mixed vegetable soup. I prefer coming in when itā€™s a lot quieter thoughā€¦ once this place is packed, the noise really travels and everyone ends up talking louder as a result. Staff are efficient, food comes out quickly. **NOTE: This restaurant only accepts cash.
Steph Zhou
I ordered two dishes for take-away which were very disappointing. The lemon chicken is only fried chicken without any lemon favour, sweet and source pork doesnā€™t have enough favour at all. May be they changed the owner? It used to be one of my favourite Shanghai style restaurant in BH.

We went here for a late lunch on a Sunday.
Not being local to the area and not knowing what to eat we followed the people.
The place was half full when we arrived.
The interior was typical was typical of a run of a mill Asian restaurant in need of renovation, usually my type of place. It was very noisy behind the counter with staff cleaning cutlery and attending to things. Atmosphere 3/5.
Service was quick and prompt. We were seated as soon as we arrived and given cups for the free tea.
Our order was taken shortly after. No chit chat, nothing overly friendly - just get on with it style.
Service 3/5.
The food was good. The wrappers on the deep fried beef dumplings were morish. I wish I had just ordered two lots of those. I was slightly disappointed with the Xiao long bao, they were not as delicate as what I am used to. The skin was very thick and did not hold much soup.
Food 3/5.
Value, I must say great price and good feed. Can definitely do under $30 for two.
Value 4/5
David
The perfect place to go if you are after some decent Chinese food, a place that's ok with BYO and basement prices. Luyang Dumpling House is your typical no-frills eatery where the interiors look like they need a reno, the menu isĀ battered from years of use and service is surly and almost non-existent but lightening fast.

Despite the drawbacks, the food here is good for the prices on offer, especially when you get complimentary black tea.Ā The Xiao Long Bao we had were full of soup and piping hot when they came out as were the pan fried pork dumplings. The dumpling skins were a little thick though but the large portion sizes more than made up for that.

That said, I'll definitely be returning when I need some cheap eats in my life.
GR
Just stepped into this place few minutes back. Yes, it was packed, but instead of asking us to wait sometime for a table, the lady behind the counter starts barking that they are full and there is no more place, like they wanted us to leave. We thought of doing a take away but that lady kept repeating 2 more timesā€ NO MORE TABLEā€ ā€œ NO MORE TABLEā€

Your food must be great, but your manners are not . So we headed to another restaurant two doors down. Simple as that.

So many restaurants around that area, so many dumplings. Broke my heart to leave DC dumpling house but I had to give it a go. BANG. Pretty happy with this place. Ordered spring onion pancake... nice without being amazing. Good crunch. XLB... flavoursome but many of them had split. Pork and prawn dumplings... delicious. Amazing. Add superfluous word here. Definitely would head back for the glory of the pork and prawn. Get there
Karla
We go here every couple of weeks. Never disappoints with taste or flavour. It isnā€™t the nicest looking restaurant but the service and food make up for it!
Zest_of_life
Had dinner here with my mate the other night. The food is tasty, but i've had better. Not a bad place for a cheap feed though. The service is quick and friendly. Had two dishes between us and a beer for about $30.

My favourite dumpling place in all of Box Hill.Ā
The girls who work there are also very polite. The menu is affordable for students as well in the area

Would recommend.
Maidstone Yana
We went there for a quick lunch. The place was so quiet and we were the only customers.

We had the chive and pork dumplings and stir fried rice cake. We were glad that both of the dishes were not too oily. We knew that in some places, the rice cake could be just drenched in oil. The only suggestion to the rice cake was not to use canned mushroom. Everything in the dish was fresh and nice, except the canned mushroom didn't blend well in the whole dish.

Minimum service was expected in this kind of eatery, but I still think maybe the staff could come and take our order after dropping of the menu on the table, instead of just looking at the phone all the time. Anyway, I got my food and she did the job of getting me the food from kitchen.
Georgia
Dumplings are very yummy and cheap!! Nice little cosy place and staff are friendly. Menu is cheap and dishes all look yum especially noodles seeing other people eat them!!!
Lily O'Shaughnessy
Come here every Tuesday night, best restaurant around. The staff are beyond friendly and we have got to know them very well. Our favourite thing to get is beef with black pepper sauce on a sizzling plate, 15 fried pork dumplings and steamed rice.
Gary Lu
Best chicken and prawn fried dumpling in Melbourne! Good value for money. Xiao long bao is okay, noodle soup could be better. Overall flavours are very Shanghainese.
The Girl With Blue Hair
Made the booking via Zomato afterhours when I was suddenly craving for dumplings in the middle of the night. Received booking confirmation the following morning which was very efficient. We ordered steamed vegetarian dumplings, steamed mini pork buns, Shanghai fried noodles and the spring onion pancake. The Shanghai fried noodles was absolutely devine! I usually end up with a sore throat from MSG after dining at dumpling places but didn't get one this time. All the dumplings were made in-house and taste very authentic. Although the wait staff were very blunt, they were helpful and efficient. The spring onion pancake were beautifully seasoned and crispy. Will definitely come back again for more!
Beccy's Adventures
Stopped by for an outstanding lunch. The ambience was pleasant and service was so quick. I wasn't waiting more than 5 minutes which is fantastic for food that is made to order.
I had a side of beef dumplings (chilli oil added on top by preference) which were unbelievably light yet filling, alongside chilli beef on rice. All so well flavoured and reasonably priced. $16 for both dishes and a sparkling mineral water.
Definitely reccommend if you're in the Box Hill area and want a great Asian spot.

Second best place for dumplings in melbs :)
Although with increasing popularity we have noticed that this has meant a decrease in dumpling size, consistency and service. We also had seafood fried noodles and hot and sour soup here, super yummy
- vegetarian options available.
Loz Arthur
I've visited Luyang quite a few times now as my partner loves their dumplings. Being vegetarian most veggie dumplings are pretty similar so I can't say their veggie dumplings are that great. I have had their fried rice a few times now and it's always the same. Mediocre and tasteless. They use frozen vegetables with a tad of egg and minimal flavourings. If it was up to me I probably wouldn't head back as there are heaps of other great dumpling places in Box Hill that offer a great selection of tasty vegetarian options.
Simone David
My families go-to dumpling place in Box Hill. The service is prompt, our food always arrives at the same time and we always leave feeling satisfied. Absolutely delicious dumplings!
Tamira Kelly
Disappointing experience! Anyone getting takeaway dumpling, do make a count on the number of dumplings received. I bought 2 serves of Fried Dumpling (Menu say 15 dumplings per serve) and when I got home, 1 box had 13 and the other had 14.Ā It's impossible to make a mistake like this twice and on 2 separate boxes (serve). Will never set foot there again and it was my first time there.
Dumpling
Staff were terribly rude. Ordered dumplings and were forced to wait for over an hour even after asking twice and being assured that they were only 5 minutes away. Extremely disappointing! Would not recommend especially when there's so much other great food around.

I love this place, I've been here since being a fresh wee intern at the hospital down the road, Luyang serves up amazing dumplings and noodles for a very reasonable price, staff are friendly and food turns up quick! :')

Have been a staple diet and I'll keep coming back for sure! Thanks guys for a job well done!

Luyang has become one of our regular visits when in Box Hill wanting some dumplings.
Take away is good, always really hot and tasty - but generally when they say half an hour its more like 45 minutes.
Can recommend the chicken and prawn dumplings, vegetarian dumplings and the "mini pork bun" (most other places call them shanghai dumplings). The Singapore noodles here are delicious. The satay chicken is yum! Not too spicy, but full of flavour. Something on the menu for everyone! The only negative is that once you've ordered when dining in, it's hard to get the staffs attention or assistance so i recommend ordering everything at once!
Lin
Despite I walk pass the restaurant for the last few years since it opened, I never walked in and try their food. Tonight I went in with a few friends and surprised to have the most tasty Drunken Chicken, fresh Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce, Shanghai Dumplings, Mixed Dumplings and Lamb stir-fried with cumin served with rice.
The presentation of these dishes isn't so good, but they are tasty and fresh. Prices are affordable. Four of us paid $47 all together and we were full and happy. I certainly will come back.

BEST Xiao Long Bao IN BOX HILL

Pretty good and cheap food. Not too oily or salty. Their Xiao Long Bao is probably the best in the area. The filling is tasty and the skin is just the right thickness. Give it a shot even if it's just for the Xiao Long Bao.

I ended up for dinner at Luyang Dumpling House earlier this week and I had the char kway teow which I almost missed on the menu. It's definitely a strange choice to make at a Chinese restaurant branding itself as a dumpling house, but I'm not a huge fan of dumplings. I was not disappointed - the char kway teow definitely tasted different to, say, a Malaysian restaurant, but it was a lot less greasier. Generous serving size.
My family tried the fried dumplings and commented that it was better than other places we've been to in Box Hill, but this only stands as hearsay.
Service was relatively speedy and efficient. The restaurant is generally quite clean, though on my visit, the server hurriedly cleared the table for us, leaving behind a few rice grains from the previous diner. Luyang is cash only.

Terrible food!! Way too much sugar in both meals we ordered. Food was not authentic in fact far from it. No wonder the place is filled with many non-asians used to eating McDonald's and other cheap fast food.

I reckon it was the only time I actually felt like stopping at a McDonald's or Hungry Jacks after a having a 'Chinese' meal.

"JT" Jeffrie Trika
Stick with their noodles ...

Prominently located, near the corner of Station Street & Whitehorse Road, you can miss this place. Big glass windows, lots of natural lights, quite clean and pleasant dining ambiance.

Easy Menu to peruse, stick with their noodles, Dumplings and Spring Onions pancakes are okay, not on their main dishes ....
Peanut Butter Cup
I've been to Luyang twice now and will probably return soon. The food is typical cheap Chinese food, big servings and decent food for what you pay. The pan fried pork dumplings are great, crispy and soft as well as tender pork inside the dumplings. Another time I decided to order something different and went with the crispy chicken (trying to make a safe order as i'm not very adventurous with my food). It was alright, a big meal yet lacked in flavours and seemed average quality. Quick and happy service and nice booths to sit in. I recommend coming here for the dumplings.
Alison Turnbull
I found the food to be delicious, especially the Shang-hai noodles. They had a lot of flavour and I could not stop eating them. The food was also fresh and delicious. Ā The service however, could be improved - but it is okay considering other dumpling places service is below average. I look forward to coming back.
Colin Godber
A simple but great dumpling place.

The atmosphere is casual but buzzing due to lots of people. The Peking pork and vegetarian dumplings are favourites. The deep fried ribs are the best item on the menu. Other great sides are the spring onion pancake and the Chinese broccoli with garlic. The beer is cheap, the food is tasty and it's good value for money. Like lots of Asian places be prepared as its cash only.

Overall pretty good value and pretty consistent.
Sarah Loves Food
We used to go here quite a lot a few years ago but quality was dropping and one day my sister went and it said it was crap. We decided to give it another go tonight and it was ok. I noticed most of the diners here were Caucasian like myself and I found the food here less spicy then some other places. Dad and I went in and I got the Dandan noodles which was yum but it wasn't that spicy (even Dad said it wasn't spicy) and it didn't have the preserved vegetables. There was no sweet and sour for Dad so he got the Mongolian beef, he really enjoyed that but I thought there weren't enough vegetables. We got the steamed pork buns to share. They were like soup dumplings and we really enjoyed them. They came out when we finished our meal. We got take away lamb with Sichuan pepper and cumin for Mum. Mum loved it and I thought it was delicious the lamb was tender but I couldn't taste Sichuan pepper. The staff were efficient, they weren't rude but not friendly either. It was a cold night but I found the restaurant to be very hot, I also noticed other diners had stripped down to singlets and Tshirts. We would come back here occasionally on take away nights.

This is my most favourite place to eat.Ā
Pan fried pork dumplings with the vinegar on the table - to die for.
Shanghai noodles with pork - deliciousnessĀ
Chao long bao - probably wrong spelling, but perfect for a cold day
Spring onion pancake - yummyĀ

My hubby and I eat like kings and the bill only ever comes to about $30
We travel for 1 hr to come here.
But it is so worth it.
Bee Smart
This is our favourite dumplings place hands down!Ā
Pan fried pork dumplings are ordered every time we go.
Xiao Long Bao are super yummy.
Meals come out quickly and we are always happy with our food!
Prices are very reasonable!
We travel 1 hour just to go here! And weve been coming here for 10 years.
The owners always do everything they can to accommodate us with a high chair or space for a pram.

Cheap and cheerful.

Luyang is a non-descript shop, easily miss-able among Box Hill's many Asian restaurants. But if you are looking for a fast, fresh, cheap meal, Luyang is a very good option.

This is not a place to be entertained and mollycoddled by staff - they just deliver the food. And that's fine because it's all about a quick, cheap meal. So service was fast and accurate. Ā We had a range of dishes - two different types of dumplings, bok choy, rice and spring rolls. Everything was hot and fresh. The three of us ate till we couldn't get another bite in but the bill only came to a tad over $50. Food in and we were out. Mission accomplished.Ā

Will be back for a budget meal.

My favourite dumpling house in box hill. The veggie dumplings are particularly good. Usually the skin is not too thick but lately it's thicker than usual. Tries the custard buns this time around, they were lovely

Decent restaurant in the busy Box Hill strip. Dishes are of a good size - plenty of food. Had the Chinese broccoli which was fresh and crisp. The Mongolian beef lacked flavour but was tender. The chicken in gong pao sauce had a good balance of sweet and chilli. Decent value if not blow your mind.
Jezza Paxinos
Have been here a few times. Always great food and excellent service. Dont both with food court this place is great!! Dumpings are flavourful ans filling. Good turnover of clients. Clean facilities.
Jason Rose
I eat here regularly and there's good reason for that, the food is amazing!!
I'm a creature of habit so I usually order the same basic things at dumpling restaurants. I can confidentially say Luyangs has the best steamed pork mini-bun (soup dumpling), the greatest pumpkin cakes, spring onion pancake and by far the best ever glutinous rice with pork that's steamed in a bamboo leaf....i'ts like a goey and warm culinary hug! Better dumplings than Aunties or Maneys by far and better food overall than David and Camy.
Service is pretty good considering how constantly busy this place always is.
TheTomato
Luyang is home to competitively priced, authentic Shanghai foods. The dumplings taste great, as well as the fried noodles. A must try when in Box Hill.
Eda Corr
This place is so good I come quite often actually.... and they all ways have such good dumplings, and good variety. The staff are friendly too :)
Bigg O
Luyang has my favourite dumplings in Melbourne, the meals are decent enough for the price you pay ($10-15).. Would recommend for dumplings though
S Fidelis
Please do try deep fried duck. It's not bad at all. Price reasonable. Don't expect much for the services. But they do have different kind of menu than others restaurant around BoxHill :)
Ryan Leys
Great restaurant. Looking around Box Hill for dumplings. This had good feedback so we gave it a try. Dumplings were spot on! We also had the spring onion pancake, picked cabbage + pork and spicy tofu. Everything tastes great and was great value for money. $29 fed 2 adults and 3 little kids. Will go back.
Mrceffy
One of the best dumpling places in melbourne and for the price you cant go wrong! One of my regulars :)

Do yourself a favour and try the chicken & prawn fried dumplings! Delicious!
TashaSpiesFood
The mini pork buns are the show stopper! :) the fried pork dumplings were good and the chicken and prawn dumplings were slightly bland and doughy.
Overall I would recommend it.
Expensive Delicious Habit.
We love a visit to Box Hill for dumplings (what can I say, we're Melbournites!). Over theĀ past couple of years we have tried a wholeĀ lot of places in the area. Our frontrunner for a while now is Luyang Dumpling House, on Station St right near the corner of Whitehorse Rd.
Blueberrypie
Tasty traditional shanghainese food last time i went in a clean and friendly environment. It dies pack up quickly so do go early. The dumplings are also delicious.
Food Baby
The boiled vegie dumplings here are good - fresh and chunky. I also liked the fried chicken and prawn dumplings, with good amounts of real prawn. The Kao Fu was sweet and flavourful, the Ma Po tofu needed a little something extra.
Kate Oh
These are the best dumplings in Melbourne. Always busy and for good reason. The veggie dumplings and pork minibuns are delicious. Love going here.
Binula
One of my favourite places to grab some quick dumplings after work - they do a great range of dumplings and wontons and are consistent in how they make them. They do a great range of tasty fried rice and noodles as well. In an area with an abundance of great Asian food, they definitely stand out for me!
YY
This place seems to be more suited to Westerners who'll just order dumplings and noodles. The other dishes on the menu left much to be desired.
Futurejsa
Cheap and good portions served. Great value for money and we're quite satisfied with the taste. Not the best dumpling by any standards, but not too bad either.
Rachel Anne
Terrible service and even more terrible food. Got food poisoning from their eggplant and oyster sauce dish, threw up 10 minutes after eating. Management refused to apologise. Their dumplings are disgustingly bland - even the cheap frozen supermarket ones are tastier.
Zoe
Best dumpling joint in Box Hill. Have traveled all over China and this is the closest tasting to anytging over there that you can get here. Rest of the menu equally tasty and fresh. Decent prices. Must try if in need of a good dumpling fix
Melbsgaleater
Had the boiled vegetable dumplings. So simple yet delicious and so affordable!!
Hanah Penrose
Overall, below average. Really cheap dumplings. Meat dumplings were below average - casing too thick, filling clumpy and not fresh tasting. Vegie ones were really good, so they saved the meal. Probably won't return. If you want really good dumplings in Box Hill, go to DC Dumplings.
Tkdoa1
Relieve your dumpling craving!. Cheap. Best vegetarian dumplings I've had in a while. Satisfies me everytime I have a dumpling craving. Very cheap and nice place to stop by on the way home.
Service can be a bit slow but the wait for good dumplings is always worth it!
Nolaalec
Best vegetable dumplings in Melbourne. The best vegetable dumplings in Melbourne ! I,m sure all the other dishes are pretty good as well from seeing food go past to other tables. My husband and I keep on ordering the dumplings because they so delicious.
Service is prompt, friendly and accurate. It,s a warm friendly restaurant and prices are amazingly good.
We have been eating there for nearly two years now and will continue to do so. I recommend the Dumpling House to anyone who appreciates good food
Caulfied Eater
Always slow service. It always takes so long to get my food here. I sat down when 3 other tables were eating. I ordered and it quickly filled up about 5 minutes later. I waited 35 minutes for 1 dish while everyone else around me who ordered much later had their food. This isn't the first time it has happened. Not impressed
Aoife_m_c
Delicious. Cheap, incredibly tasty, always a great meal

My Favourite!. The dumplings here are amazing! The fried chicken and prawn are my favourite. Pork mini buns are just beautiful.
Extreme value for money. The staff are all really lovely as well, makes for a really nice environment.
Foodman
Best in Box Hill. I am Lu Yang's number one customer. I could eat anywhere I want. But I choose Lu Yang.

Best dumplings in Box Hill.
Brett
Old Favourite. Love this place for takeaway and eat-in... great value and most dishes are very tasty. The dumplings aren't Melbourne's best but they are not far off - never disappointing. You could find better elsewhere, but not for this price. It's usually quite busy but they do their best to get your food to you as quickly as possible.
Michael Freeman
Trust me here. D'lish m8 bloody dlish

The Best. I've been working my way around Box Hill trying the multitude of places with Dumplings a consistant theme.

Quite simply this place has some of the best Dumpings around... They do a great version of the steamed pork bun broth filled dumpling and their fried chicken/prawn dumplings are to die for.

I haven't tired any of the non-dumpling dishes other than a spring onion pancake which was overly fried and not as good as others.. some of the mains though do look quite nice from what I can see, and its nice to see a menu that doesn't read the same as every other place.

No deserts here is a downside if you want to make a meal of it all. There's always nice hot tea on the table though at no charge and the price they charge for dumplings is criminal (in that you feel like a criminal only paying that much!)
IloveFood13
Came to Luyong after debating on whether to go to David and Cammy's. Maybe I should have listened to my intuition and chosen David and Cammy's....service here is shocking. Service with a smile?! Not here, only reserved for their Caucasian customers it seems! While their dumplings maybe tasty the lacking service has earnt them a "don't like" rating.
Elena
Perfection. This is mine and my boyfriend's absolute favourite place to eat. The food is so, so cheap, and so delicious. The food is so fresh and full of flavour. My favourite dish would definitely have to be the vegetarian dumplings in udon noodle soup! Yum yum!
Al
Great for a snack dint expect to much. bit boring

Great pan friend pork and chicken. Very reasonably priced ! I have returned many times and can't get enough of the dumplings, very generous portion sizes. Would defiantly recommend !!!

I don't get this rating!! are we eating the same thing? first of all the dumpling skin is too thick! eating more pastry than anything else. n the filling has no flavour. due to more pastry than filling. service is lousy!! waitress got our order wrong then we had to wait for nearly 25min! no soy on table. Noodles came without spoon. it was like u had to keep nudging them to give u what u want. WIR? Nope. plenty of other venues. Also with a name of DUMPLING as part of the business you'd expect that to b their forte but looking around the tables I couldn't see anyone else ordering it. Guess they knew something I didn't!!

The dumplings are Spectacular!!!! I eat there about once a week. My family of 4 eats for under $40. Always have dumplings and a different noodle dish each time. Service is pretty good for this sort of place. Very friendly.

This meal left me with an overwhelming despair that I fear will never leave me. Had to go eat a snowthie & play basketball at time out after to cheer myself up.

Terrible service, flavourless food, the soya sauce was even badly watered down.

Never again.

I really liked the pan fried dumplings.... I have just tried 2 types of dumplings, so my review is a bit limited.
The sampling serve was a bit blend whereas the pan fried dumplings with chicken and prawns were fresh and delicious. The place looks quite clean and prices are very reasonable. I'll go back to try other dishes.

Great local dumpling house. We were forced to go to lu yang because our staple ..dave and Camys was full and we were really pleasantly surprised. The service is less rushed but just spot on and the food is great . Fresh, fast and yummy . You can BYO which is a plus and there are some house wines but they are limited (better to go around the corner to the bottle shop) We will be back and are now torn between two dumpling houses!!

The worst service!!. We arrived at 6pm on a Sunday night.there we only 2 other sets of diners there at the time. we waited.more patrons arrived and their order were taken.after waiting more than 10 min,I went up to the counter to order as more and more people arrived. one of the 2 waitresses took our order and we watched everyone around us eating. thirty min later we were brought some over cooked spring onion pancakes.when the group sitting next to us were served food (after having only arrived five min earlier) I went to the front to ask about our food. I was informed "we are very busy" and "dumplings take time to cook" in addition to other excuses. We were told our food wasn't ready yet even though we had been there over 50 min!! no apologies! we paid for our starter and left starving and angry.never again!

Cheap and Great!. Lu Yang Dumpling house is one of the better cheap dumpling houses in Box Hill. The noodles were great and the other food was fantastic (and actually hot, and not warm as has been served to be at other places.) The dumplings were not the best in Box Hill, but were still great and were worth it considering the rest of the food was worth it. Also cheap!

Friday Night Dumplings at Lu Yang...Yes Please!!. Me and my girl hit this place on friday nights. somewhat of a routine nowdays seeing as the dumplings are so delicious. service can be slow at times, but hey chasing waves is time consuming too (all that driving lol). the chili paste is what makes the dumplings radical. i usually eat the 15 and then crust all night on the couch. chasing barrels and cheating life ~ fredo

Not My Favourite. Many people say its dumpling is good, but I found out that it is just average. There are better dumpling shops in Boxhill. Other dishes also so so only.

In the interest of trying something new, I suggested we have lunch at Lu Yang Dumpling House on Station street, on the recommendation of a colleague.

Lu Yang Dumpling House is a bit hit and miss, and Iā€™m uncertain why it seems to be so popular. Iā€™d also like to mention the service is a bit slow, I believe we waited around 20 or so minutes before the first order arrived with no apology from the waitresses that served us. I guess I canā€™t expect much from Chinese restaurants. Iā€™d give the dumplings a miss, you can definitely find better dumplings (with overall better skin to filling ratio) elsewhere.
