The new king oyster mushroom crisp is delicious with the self-made sweet chilli sauce! must try!
I ordered the Hainan Chicken rice and the food was just amazing. You could taste the real ingredients and enjoyed the authentic spice. Thumbs up!
This place is AMAZING. The food is great value and tastes sooooo good. We come here every week. Best curry puffs I've had too.
We come here often and always order the amazing curry laksa and vegetarian mains which are all delicious and amazing value for money
Besides coming here to offer prayers and incense to Buddha. One may also come here to enjoy selective of vegetarian meals :) place is very tranquil. If you enjoy having tea, you may come and try their selection of fine taiwanese tea.
This hidden away spot offers the best vegetarian lunch in the CBD! For affordable prices, you can get an interesting range of bentos, mains and delicious teas. The kumpquat is must-try. They offer different specials every day, so you'll never get bored. If you like mock meat and mock other things (like pork floss and prawn crackers), you'll be in heaven here.
Amazing food! Nice atmosphere and people too. Will definitely be back. I have no complaints. The sweet n sour set, crispy taro rolls and satay tofu were soooo good.
Located near the Box hill shopping Centre, a few minutes from the Box Hill station, it's on the ground floor of a modern style Buddhist temple.
All the food here are vegan.
There's three daily special bento menu each day (closed on Monday) and only open for lunch.
We've tried three bento with fried tofu, hainan chicken and roast duck and they were quite flavoursome. The batter on the tofu was a bit thick.
Kumquat tea was sooo good, highly recommended. There are other interesting tea to choose from like Lotus tea.
Fried rice noodles with veggies was ok, more varieties in bento.
Limited time veggie roll was good but I'm trying to minimize deep fried food.
Good service but food took awhile to serve.
Update: second visit was quite disappointing. Queues for over 1/2hr to pay and order meal. Had to wait for another 1/2hr for kumquat tea and laksa. This time the tea was quite weak and not as good as previous. Took frozen dumplings home to cook and they were ordinary.
If you would to have a nice vegetarian meal in boxhill, you can consider this vegetarian cafe in a modern looking temple. Nice bento rice sets and the curry noodles are quite tasty. Not forgetting the crispy curry puff - must try, heard is homemade! Finally, have a cup of hot kumquat tea to wash down the food. Pay a visit to the main shrine at level 3 for a quiet moment to yourself.
If eating delicious vegetarian food and drinking flavorsome Chinese tea in the presence of Buddha had not been ticked off on your bucket list then make sure you come visit this unique Teahouse in Boxhill before Buddha himself comes visit you.
This Teahouse is unique in itself that it is also part temple, part Buddhist library and part restaurant.
The temple itself is on the second floor for any Buddhists to come to pray and worship so don't be surprised if there is chanting happening while you are eating downstairs. To most the chanting might not make any sense but look past its meaning it is a way to speak to Buddha directly.
Being a Taiwanese styled Teahouse the vegetarian dishes served is a fusion of Chinese and Japanese.
For soup noodle lovers you can't go past the "Buddha's Light Noodle Soup" with its miso based soup noodle served with all kinds of vegetable goodness. For more kick give the Curry Laksa a go!!!
For rice lovers the "Vegie Fried Rice" will hit its spot every time.
For those who like a bit of variety do give the Daily Special a try. The set lunch is served in a Japanese styled bento box with sides and a good serve of fruit also included.
Being vegetarian dishes the flavor might not be as strong as normal dishes but I do find the milder taste refreshing to the palate.
Though the majority of staff are volunteers but the level of service can give any 5 stars hotel a run for its money on friendliness and manner.
And after you had finished the lovely meal do pay the library/temple a visit with it's vast Buddhist statues/books/literature and if you want you can also bring home a small Buddha yourself.
If there are any restaurants in Buddha heaven then Water Drop Teahouse will be at the very top of the food chain.
Hiding in a Chinese art gallery this completely vegetarian Chinese/Asian food staffed with volunteers is a lovely calming oasis in the city. We had a laksa and tofu vegetables and protein dish with an amazingly good Oolong tea. $31.50
There isn't much Asian Vegetarian here around Melbourne. Having one located in the busy aka "little Chinatown precinct" at Box Hill is certainly great idea. This hidden gem in situated in a Mahayana Buddhist Temple few minutes walk away the crowd in Centro - Water Drop Teahouse offered various Taiwanese and Malaysian cuisine vegetarian dishes. Going there on a weekday would be great as you get to enjoy the relaxing environment as over the weekend is usually busy with a little bit of wait for the orders to come. Various Tea and set menu (changes every 2 days) available for selection.
My suggestion would definitely be Kamquat / Lotus tea and Yong Tau Foo set lunch (Malaysian filled vegetarian meat in different vegetables). Oh forget to mention! Their signature dish - Fo Guang Noodle (Soya Bean Broth) is must try!
TIPS: Dont get confused with some different tea house pictures tagged in this business listing, they might be accidentally tagged and Water Drop Teahouse is also available at 141 Queen Street (with different menu).
The most delicious vegitarian tea house. Highly recomended ! Must try Hainanese chicken rice, bak kut tea, laksa, home made curry puff, Kumquat tea.
My favorite!. Being a vegetarian, I finally found a cheap and nice place to eat!
I have tried many dishes and would like to recommend:
Lotus tea – it’s just dried louts flower with boiling water. Love the lotus fragrance. You can add hot water as many times as you want. Also the flower is eatable.
Dumpling noodle soup – there is full mushroom flavor in the soup. It’s just so tasty.
Rice dish set – so far I only tried the Sunday rice dish set because I don’t have time to go on week days. Can’t say anything bad with it.
Fried noodle - is hubby’s favorite.
Fried taro roll - is my son’s best liked dish – its sweet!
Kamquat Tea, a must to try !
Serene surroundings and lovely vegetarian lunch.
Great temple with good vegetarian food. This is my go to temple everytime. Peace and quiet up at the Buddha praying area and beautiful atmosphere alround. There's is also a shop selling Buddhism items which is great. The vegetarian lunch menu is value for money and tastes good.
Went there with my partner who was Buddhist. Extremely kind and lovely people, great atmosphere that left me feeling very peaceful.
Been here a few times to pray, friendly environment and very quiet and peaceful.
. Lovely place. We go the temple and join kids class every Sunday.
