Review Rolf's Pies - Box Hill

Doesn't matter what time you get there, they are consistent. Fresh pies, they add as they go along, they never sit in hot thing for ages. The best pies ever. My absolute favourite.

Had the pie of the day. Delicious!! Lots of chunky bits of meat. Also came with a free sausage roll. That's almost better than free beer. Very friendly staff, nice and clean. Highly recommended!!

Ate the Thai Beef Curry pie 😊 it was flavorful and delicious. Pastry could be a little more crisp but the filling made up for it. Customer service was friendly too 👍 will definitely be coming back to try the rest.

One of the better pie shop around. Lamb one is good, steak and mushroom is good. Also like their sandwiches. Service generally on point

Great variety to choose from. I came lunch time and it was quite busy but the staffs were fast. Good price for lunch with tummy full. The coffee latte was OK. I bought canadian maple is OK I can taste the real beef. The broccoli, cheese and leeks was so so. The muffins are cheap only $2... something but the kids happy with those.

Best pies in Melbourne! I've been going to this pie shop for over 25 years and it never disappoints. Love the happy face cakes too.

Pie was mostly gravy, barely any meat. Only reason gave 2 stars was pastry was nice. Filling in party pie was like a pepper steak pie and pepper steak had no steak but mince. Very disappointing

Finally got in before they close at 5PM and tasted the yammy pies ! Lovely ladies and friendly service !! Highly recommend !!!

I went there with my Dad to get some takeaway for Lunch this afternoon and I had a Steak Pie and my Dad had the Vegetable Pastie. We really enjoyed it also the staff were kind to us and the service was quick. Also the lady gave me 1 dozen cold Steak Pies for $25 instead of $50 since they are doing a deal where you buy 6 cold Steak Pies for $25 and get 6 free.

Came here for the first time after hearing rave reviews. It was actually really busy for a small bakery yet there was enough staff.
I ordered a sausage roll. The pastry was golden brown and flaky.
The filling was tasty though a little salty for me. However overall I enjoyed my food and will definitely come back to try a pie.

Really nice pies and they definitely taste, like my childhood from when I used live in the area. I definitely recommend giving them a try, as it’s worth the visit to come here.

Nice pies! Enjoy this little bakery in the neighbourhood. Glad to see no EFTPOS minimum, unlike other small bakeries that have a minimum or deal in cash only. Bravo!

As the name suggests, this place is well known for its pies. It has a great variety as well as ones you probably never heard of. I got a classic one - chicken and mushroom. It was delicious. They put a lot of chicken & mushrooms in which is good because some places put maybe one piece of chicken in. Would like to try there other pies & other stuff they have to offer.

A new favourite!! The Bushmans pie is amazing! Chunky pieces of beef and assorted vegetables with a mouth watering gravy that just satisfies every craving. Had 2 in one sitting and I NEVER EVER have two pies in one sitting. That's saying something!

Whilst this place is famous for its pies (which we should have tried), the vanilla slice we got here was ok too, being nice and creamy and at a good price. Service was friendly and prompt.

Been coming here for years. Really nice Pies and Cakes. The Chocolate Iced Doughnut is truly the finest in Melbourne. Service is friendly, sexist free and multicultural free. However, recently it seems like they put women in the front and men at the back. Equal rights! Still wont change my review as the place does have both male and females working.

Hot Pies!!! Rolf's Pies are that and will often be in hot demand during the Monday to Friday lunch spot. I often duck down here when I'm working from home as was the case today. Tradies central if you arrive just before 12 and the only eating space outside fully taken forcing me to take my pie home. Today I went for my long running favourite, the steak and cheese filling sprinkled with parmesan on the top and baked real hot. You can also purchase these pies cold so you can freeze or cook at home. Family Pies look deep and substantial but I doubt even I could manage to consume one of these without the help of someone else. My other half loves the chicken varieties and there are also vegetarian friendly options.

Today I missed seeing the sign on the outside advertising pie and a can or pie and a coffee special. This is the one instance I wish the staff had tried up sell me as I would have been tempted.

I love the pie range here ! I usually get the cold ones so I can bake them myself . I love a local place that does fresh unique and tasty pies

We bought pies from here for lunch today. I’ve been wanting to try Rolf’s pies for a long time now.

I had trouble deciding which flavour to get and the lady working here helpfully said “Why don’t you get one of each?” Hehehe. I settled on the beef and cheese pie đŸ„§. I enjoyed my pie which seemed to have a mix of minced and chunky beef and the cheese was melted cheese inside the pie. Even though I enjoyed the cheese pie I did have food envy. I tasted Dad’s Canadian maple 🍁 pie which was delicious. I was worried that it would be too sweet but it wasn’t. I’ll be getting this one next time. Mum’s seafood curry pie was yummy too. It was a cheap seafood mix but that’s what you expect for the price.

We also ordered sweets. I ordered the ginger and lemon slice which was nice but not as good as I thought it would be. Dad thought his custard tart was “quite nice”. The sweets here are a great price at around $2.50 each.

The people working here were very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely love to come back and try the Canadian Maple pie.

Somewhat of a Melbourne east side institution, Rolfs pies is the place to go when you want a pie that is tasty and unapologetically rustic. With great flavours and solid standards (the steak and mushroom is next level) Rolfs pies deserves the praise that is heaped upon it. Bring your friends!

Wanna know two signs of a good pie shop? The first is, apparently, arriving at 'smoko' time so that the place has a steady stream of tradies. Clearly 11.30 am is 'pie o'clock'! Tradesmen in utes and vans came from everywhere, plenty of fluro in Rolf's Pies let me tell you. Enough of them seemed quite familiar with the menu too. The second is that there is a small space for customers, and the rest of the place is obviously workspace - the servers had as little space as the clientele and there was work going on behind - fabulous proof of house-made. There are a few seats under umbrellas to eat outside, and these were being utilised to the full.

What you're getting here is old fashioned pies of good quality, from incredibly friendly and helpful staff. These are the sort of pies you wish you could have bought when you were a kid. I did my best to select a great range, but barely scratched the surface. Stocked up my freezer as there is the offer of three family pies for the price of two and a deal for one savoury and one dessert pie. Will report back on the Curried Seafood, Steak and Bacon, Chicken and Vegetable, Steak and Mushroom and Blueberry and Apple. The pies are also pretty easily identifiable, although the woman who served me also marked the wrappers where needed as a backup. The bacon pie for instance has a 'B', the seafood a fish, and the chicken and veg has a 'c'. Very useful.

What we tried then and there were the individual pies; Bacon Quiche, Chicken and Mushroom, Canadian Maple (beef), Steak and Potato and Vanilla Slice. Basically that will be 'yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, and yum! The pastry here holds up really well, but it's really thin even when holding generous - seriously - amounts of meaty filling. My Chicken and Mushroom pie had a lovely thick gravy, big pieces of chicken and mushroom, and a generous amount of white pepper I suspect. Really delicious, I heard nothing but 'mm' sounds from the rest of our group either. The Vanilla Slice for afters was crispy (fresh) and the perfect consistency within. A lot of places these days seem to go with charging more by giving you a huge serve of dessert, the serves here are just right, and all prices are very reasonable.

The options for savoury dishes is pretty huge, 'party', 'snakkie', 'lunch' and 'family'. This place is not 'gourmet', but good, homely and filling pies. There's a range of pack options and sweet treats as well as a drinks fridge with the standard selection.

Edit: Afternoon tea was the Apple Cream Pie for each child, they look amazing, and the kids love them, there is a touch of cinnamon in the apple, and the apple is soft, but holding its shape - win.

Edit: Our selection of pies have been mostly cleaned up, a little leftovers only, no issue with that. The biggest 'issue' was that the 'B' I thought denoted 'bacon' (as I requested), was actually a 'Beef' pie I guess, as there wasn't bacon in it, but there was mushroom. Went down well anyway. The Seafood Curry pie was scrummy, it's a mild-to-medium heat. Our final selection was a Chicken and Vegetable version, and the filling was creamy, the chunks of veg and chicken were hearty. They all get ticks, though I am still keen to give my meat-lovin' family members the bacon version of the Steak pies!

Came here late one day and they were out of any hot vegetarian quiches or pies. Begrudgingly got a small cheese and spinach roll, not wanting to leave empty handed and thinking that these are so often tasteless and can be found at any old petrol station... How wrong I was!!! Scrumptiously rich and buttery pastry, deliciously flavoursome cheese and full of flavour spinanch, I had absolutely no idea how good cheese and spinanch rolls could be! Sure it was a dollar or so more than the old ordinary crap you can pick up at the milk bar, but it sure is worth it when it tastes this good and is of such quality ingredients. I look forward to trying out their other items. Will have to get in earlier next time!

Do you love pies? Do you love cheese? Are you crazy about chilies? Well Rolf's Chilie Beef pie will be consistently heaven to you! I've had it for lunch every day for the past week.

Delicious chunks of succulent beef combined with real chilies and topped with melted cheese.

Look the pie itself is easily a 5/5. At $6 It is currently their pie of the week... for the second week running and therefore comes with a free sausage roll.

Sadly, I keep being served by a middle aged Asian lady who was flat out rude and unwelcoming. I guess she knows the pies are so good people will come back no matter how she interacts? ! The other staff are very nice though.

Aussie gourmet tradition continues .....

Another great place to enjoy your Aussie gourmets; Meat pies & Sausage rolls in Melbourne.

Always well made, onsite and feels like homemade stuff.

Don't forget cold packs to take home for the freezer :-)

I've only ever tried the savoury pies from here but, for the price you pay, it's good quality. The pastry is nice and flakey on top and cooked properly on the bottom. The staff are friendly. Not great on the ambience.

Tried Rolf's for the first time and was pleasantly surprised.
We ordered the family steak pie and got a bonus apple and blueberry dessert pie.
Also ordered some mini pies and a custard tart.
The steak pie was delicious (filling was quality) and such a win for dinner!! And the dessert pie even better.
I'm looking forward to trying the other flavours of the pies.

These pies are really delicious and I love the chicken and mushroom, beef and mushroom and especially the vegetable pasties. They also have a wide range of other types of big and small pies and you can stock up for winter.

Consistently good pies. Would recommend the steak and pepper pie and vanilla slice. Vanilla slice is the best I've ever had! Eftpos available

Best pies ever. We have just tried Rolf's Pies for the first time today. The Canadian Maple and the Bushman's Pies - hard to pick which was best but think the Bushman squeaked in. Tender steak - not minced meat - no gristle, no fat, real vegetables, fantastic pastry. Best pies we have ever had. Lovely staff there too.

Fantastic pies

OMG the steak and cheese pie is to die for!!!! Oh and I finished with a vanilla slice and they are the best I have ever had!!!!

Not great. The good: a good range of different pies to try

The not so good: Pastry is pretty average - I'd give it 50% at best, far below the standard of the best pies. Some of the flavours are struggling,

The bad: Many pies have soggy pastry, especially the bottom, and are greasy. The best you can say is that they are better than many of the mass produced commercial pies, but that's not saying much.

The best pies are a joy to eat, but don't expect them here. Not bad, far from great.

Delicious. The products are top quality and delicious. Bulk packs offer better value and are worth keeping in the freezer at home for parties or a quick dinner. Worth the lunch stop to try the variety. Party pies, sausage rolls and pasta rolls are all loved by kids and adults alike.

Average but expensive. To be fair, i have only tried the one pie from Rolf's so i don't know what the other varities are like, i had the country pie which is beef, onion & i'm not sure what else. I found it to be pretty average, the filling was too sloppy, not good if your eating on the road, the taste was ok, nothing marvelous.
At $5 each i was expecting a bit more, as it was late arvo she also threw in a free sausage roll, i noticed the filling was undercooked & it was small so i'm glad i didnt pay for it. Oh & they charge an extra 20c for those pathetically small tomato sauce squeezies, damn i hate that!
They also have family size pies for around $16, also on the expensive side if you ask me

Potatoe beef pie is scrumptious!
