We came to box hill after a long walk at the state park so we were ready for a hearty meal. Not many restaurants were open but we were drawn in to this one as the selection and price looked good. The xiao long baos were decent. Loved the pumpkin pancake even though they didn’t look very good. Veges were crisp and fresh, the beef noodles had a great texture and rich broth. The empty plates were evidence of how good the food was.
We decided to get takeaway at David & Camy as we had heard good things about this place. We had the fried noodles, special fried rice, fried pork dumplings, and the sweet sour and spicy sliced pork on rice.
The fried rice was quite plain, a very average fried rice. The noodles were quite enjoyable though. The sliced pork was flavourful, oily, and quite spicy when you ate a lot, although we really liked it. The pork dumplings were very disappointing, however, as they were dry and had no juice in the them at all. Apart from that, portions are huge and prices are cheap, so no wonder it attracts a lot of customers.
Hadn’t been here for a while..but glad we went back for a late dinner last night. Food was delicious and served quickly.. and is very reasonably priced. The Dumplings are a highlight -and the food selection is good . Staff were friendly and attentive as usual with the restaurant almost full. The decor is a little tired and could do with the refresh, but it’s simple functional and doesn’t detract from the food!
Love the many different dumpling flavours available, they are cooked really nicely and are pretty cheap so can’t complain! It’s super close to me so it’s probably one of the top dumpling places I visit whenever I have cravings 👌🏼
Next Dan Dan noodle place in Melbourne. Great prices and food comes out quick 10char. Dumplings are mad too. Had spicy ones but definitely dan dan is good
Went here recently as we were craving dumplings. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and shown to a table. They didn’t bug as at all to order whilst we were waiting for a friend. Once we had decided what we wanted they were quick to come over to take our order & the food was ready pretty soon after. I got the pork dumplings & the pork buns, whilst my friend got dumplings in chilli sauce. The food was delicious. The dumplings were so fresh & had enough filling in them. I misread the menu & thought the pork buns were bbq pork buns. They were still nice the bun itself was so fluffy. This place is definitely good value for money. If you don’t finish it all they gave us a container to take home. They also accept card for purchases over $30 but they don’t do split bills.
Go to place for quick Chinese. Yes this place is oily and waiters not too attentive, but food is mostly good. Good prices and generous servings. But if you are looking for a clean meal, not the best place to go as they use large amounts of oil in all dishes.
This is my go to dumpling place. I always get my usual pan fried pork dumplings and pork meat ball noodle soup (not many places do this particular dish; i love it!) or the shanghai fried noodle is good too. It's no fancy place but sometimes old rustic places make the best food. It's really personal preference how you like your dumplings fried but I like mine really crisp and crunchy yet juicy inside so without a doubt it hits the spot!
For a long time I refused to return as the customer service used to be appalling but in the last two years or so they have changed and no problems =) Everyone deserves a second chance!
Expected the dumpling menu to be a tad cheaper but still managed to spot this bargain: 15 wontons in soup for $8.80 + free hot tea 😍
Delicious & cheap😄
New management made this restaurant great again. commend the taste of the dumplings and chilli chicken rice. thanks for the great food ladies.
Cool services since the staffs are like a warm family ( or are they?) Great food, nice location and hot tea in the winter is a great combination
It seems like the restaurant has changed ownership as the Chinese lady with the short cropped hair and her usual vest wasn’t there. The staff are now a lot friendlier and understand English very well. Previously I have to admit it was a little difficult to order as the waitresses
dont always understand your order. But I knew they were trying their best. This place is really good for signature dumplings and noodles. If you love dumplings it’s a must try in Box Hill!
Been here a few times. Good variety of yummy dumplings to choose from. Enjoyed them very much especially the fried pork dumplings and would return again for more
Quality was good when it starts years ago. But dropping over the years.
If choose to go, can try fry dumplings which you can’t really easily make at home.
If you're in Box Hill you can't go past David & Camy's! Their dumplings are super juicy and their crispy noodles and shanghai fried noodles are amazing! Quite fairly priced for what you get in comparison with other dumpling restaurants. Special mention goes to the Pork and Beef dumplings, you won't regret ordering these!
I love eating here. The fried pork dumplings are excellent, and portion sizes are huge. Some of the other items on the menu are not the best, but you cant go wrong with the dumplings, hot spicy chicken or shanghai noodles.
Some of the staff can be pretty rude at times, but mostly they're alright. Just a good place to get a cheap feed with some mates.
Cheap and very tasty food. Always greeted with a smile. Always fresh and great service.
The dumplings are always amazing.
They have a huge menu!
The Peking pork dumplings in spicey sauce are delicious (have with vinegar, soy sauce and chilli oil). Great tasting food, good price, good size of serving. I always come and get these whenever I'm in the area.
My friends decided to drive us all the way from city to boxhill yesterday for some dumplings. This is her fav place and I could see why. What we ordered:
- Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup
- Steam Pork Dumplings
- Fried Chicken and Prawn Dumplings
Everything was good especially the noodle, the soup was really tasty and the beef was really tender too. The chilli oil was really good too! This is def a good option if u want something fast and cheap but not fast food. CASH ONLY!
Attentive staff and food came out quickly. Portion is pretty generous. I had noodle with minced pork which was okay. Their indonesian fried noodle is sooo good! Although lack of meat and veggies (they put fish meatballs and fish pieces- indo people dont do that- and few slices of carrots and mushrooms -strange combination- and a floret of broccoli), the sauce of noodles is amazing. Tried their steam dumpling and it was okay. Will come back one day and try other things. I saw someone having sour soup and it looks really nice.
My go to place for dumplings, love the vegetarian option, I never really go there to chill, mostly quickly eat and go. Me of the cheaper options in Box Hill.
Pretty quiet on a weekday around noon, but service was prompt and food was yummy! We were craving fried dumplings and had the chicken/prawn as well as the vegetarian for a change, with pumpkin cake for dessert. The dumplings were crunchy on the outside and flavourful on the inside - I'd recommend the vegetarian if you're in for something different. The pumpkin cake surprised me - I thought they'd be in the form of pancakes but they were small deep fried pumpkin balls with custard on the inside. Really good and would recommend them :)
Value for money, these guys have it in spades! Great food, always super quick to come out so really easy to get a cheap delicious feed and not spend hours
David and Camy's is amazing for a quick cheap feast of dumplings and hot noodles! I love the speed of delivery and the old school dumpling house vibes!
The only drawback from all this yummy food is that the restaurant is a bit of a close quarters type situation, and can sometimes (when crowded) feel a bit saturated with oil.
Not going to stop anyone from getting to those dumplings tho. #aintnomountainhighenough
Big on value if you're after a satisfying dumpling feast. You Literally can't go wrong when less than ten bucks buys you a plate of home made fried pork dumplings. Obviously not the best food money can buy, simple interior and service, and questionable cleanliness but let's be honest that's not what you came for anyway
I honestly cannot find any faults in the food or customer service at D & Cs. You are given a good portion for low prices and the dishes are delicious. The only thing I would question is the cleanliness of the place sometimes the tables seem a little sticky.
My favourite box hill dumpling eatery.
D&C has consistently been the best dumpling house in box hill. I've eaten the dumplings here since I was a kid. A staple of the box hill food scene. The dumplings are of a Hugh quality and very moderately priced.
A must if in the area, looking for a dumpling feed.
I have been coming to David and Camy ever since I was a child. You know there is something about this place when it is always packed, even on a weeknight, and even if surrounding restaurants are all empty.
This place is popular due to its large portions, tasty foods and relatively good prices. Although no longer $6 a dish, at $10 per dish the prices are still cheap for the amount you get. A dish could feed two people. However be prepared for your dish to be drenched in oil. Dumplings and their self serve chilli oil is especially good.
David and Camy is one of my old favorites, and although the oily and salty food means I can only come once in a while, I know there will always be a next time and I will be back.
Have read a lot of great review about this place. However the pictures posted along don't convince me that this place serves good dumpling. I decided to give a try and gladly found that I was wrong. Love their xiao long bao and the steam dumpling. We came with a 70% full stomach and we still find the dumpling yummy and juicy. The dumpling taste as good even the next day after microwaved.
One of my favourite place for Taiwan beef noodle soup and vegetarian fried noodles. The Taiwan beef has a nice broth, soft , tender braised beef which just falls apart and noodles are just right. Only downfall was the pickled vegie has had a strange taste to it. The vegetarian noodles have a flavoursome charred taste and has a variety of noodles. The chicken and prawn dumplings had a soft skin and lacked flavour. Size wise the dishes are quite filling and service is alright.
Much better than a certain disgraceful "dumping noodle joint" inside the Box Hill central. Could work on the hygiene a little better, mainly because I walked pass this place once in the morning and the tables were filled with plates and unfinished dumplings from yesterday before they shut the doors.
David & Camy is probably the most popular Chinese dumpling restaurant in Box Hill - it's almost always crowded during meal times, but especially so at dinner time - definitely expect to wait if it's past 6:30pm, especially on weekends. Does the restaurant live up to the expectations set by the crowd?
The restaurant is far from being the most modern in Box Hill, the bowls and utensils look dated, and it's not the most "peaceful" dining experience, with the inside usually being loud and the tables packed tight.
But of course, you're here for a good meal. David & Camy offer a cheap, satisfying eat, with very large portions for under $10. The dumplings are popular here, but even people who aren't big fans of dumplings like myself are well catered for, with a diverse range of fried noodles, soup noodles and rice dishes. My personal favourites are the Indonesian Fried Rice (difficult to describe - it's not quite nasi goreng), and the Hot Spicy Chicken Rice (white rice with a side of mildly spicy diced chicken and what looks like choy sum or bok choy). The Mapo Tofu isn't the best I've had, but it's quite reasonable too. If you do get the dumplings, make sure you grab some of the chilli oil sauce - they don't give it to you, and service here is generally a do it yourself thing (i.e. if you need extra bowls or cutlery, you can grab it yourself from the table next to the cashier - this is also where the sauce is. If you ask the waiter, they might just point you in the direction.)
If the chillis on the menu freak you out, the kitchen, in my experience, is very good at catering for requests to make a dish less spicy.
Don't forget to bring enough cash - it's cash only. Doggie boxes are free.
This place is awesome. These days this place seems like a mecca for students to BYO and have a big tasty cheap feed. The dumplings are ok, not the best, not the worst. Some other good dishes are the Braised Pork Belly and Mapo tofu. If you get seated towards the back of the restaurants and can smell the toilets, you're gonna have a bad time.
Sometimes a good bowl of greasy noodles and dumplings is exactly what you need, and if you happen to be in Box Hill this is the place to go. Recommended.
Most meals around $10 .... all day... good value for money.
The original Beijing style Dumpling & Noodle house in Box Hill ...... for us anyway. We've started going here for some Noodle with minced Pork, then their dumplings. Big Menu and they have some South East Asian dishes as well, but we don't go for that.
Always cramped with patrons, enjoy and bring some CASH .....

Another enjoyable pre-dinner Dumplings and things.
Great work on those steamed Chicken & Prawn dumplings, fried Pork dumplings.
A bit bland on the Spring Onion Pancakes and Custard Buns.
A Safe Bet.
One of best dumplings, very affordable. Our favourite is the chicken dumplings and hokien noodles on hotplate.
Place always buzzing with excitement.
You can also buy frozen ones to pan fry at home!
Heard the dumplings and ribs were good here so decided to try it out. Garlic ribs did not disappoint. We also had the chilli beef on rice, beef was very tender, not as chilli as we thought it would be, still good though. Serving sizes are very generous for the price paid, plenty to take away!
I think their dumplings are on the larger side and they tasted great. The seafood noodles were quite thick and saucy. The wontons were not too bad. Service was not great, but you get free tea.
We went on a Friday night. It was as expected, extremely busy. The service was like many of the other restaurants in box hill- non existent. I held up two fingers signifying a table for two and we were asked to share with another table of two. Whilst the seating arrangement wasn't ideal we still had an open mind. We ordered the pan fried beef dumplings and stirfry pork. The food was out within minutes which made us wonder if it was pre prepared. The dumplings- amazing. The meat wasn't fatty and the dumplings themselves were the perfect thickness. I wish I hadn't ordered the stirfry and just ordered another plate of dumplings. Overall it was a good experience. Don't order anything but the dumplings and don't expect any sort of customer service.
The dumplings are always good here. I have been when its super busy and theyre turning people away, and also when its quiet, the service is not unpleasant but not bad. Food has always been great.
