Review Canton Lake Restaurant - Box Hill

Good dish. Great and prompt service. Taste good and very good food craftsmanship. Highly recommended.

That's was awesome ,definitely will recommend to my housemate friend and parents

Food was good and pricing was fair. However the waiter who first received us was rather impatient when I was trying to wheel my dad in and try to figure out where to place him. When the waiter raised his tone expressing his impatient attitude , I had to tell him off. Our table was being served without him and everything was pleasant after the unfortunate incident.

The restaurant serves nice Canton cuisine in Box Hill area, but the quality was way off from my last order, the stir fried beef is watery, the sea cucumber pot was very fishy, the scallops ware overcooked. Dissapointed.
Wally Chiang
Food isn’t bad. Slightly slow when it comes to service. I have been to this restaurant since 25 years ago and over the years there has been many new owners. This current ownership is definitely better than the previous. Good location for big groups of people. Would recommend as its above average in box hill standards.

Yummy. Went again - still yummy. Must get the sweet and sour pork, bloody ridiculous. Absolute banger.

Good experience last night with a group of 9 ppl. We ordered the crab dinner set menu for 4 ppl and lobster dinner set menu for 4 ppl costing $500. Each set comes soup, 2 dishes of your choice, a steam/fried fish, rice, steam dessert cake and sweet soup. Generous portion with authentic Cantonese taste. Friendly and responsive staff. Would go again to try the cheiw chow cuisine as the head chef is form cheiw chow.

Very nice Cantonese cuisine in Boxhill, excellent customer service by CK, highly recommended

Ordered deep fried Japanese tofu as takeaway. Staff were very friendly and packaging was well thought out as the edges of the container were cut so that the tofu wouldn’t be soggy.

Amazing lobster promotion and set meal during the festive season. We have personalize service for banquet booking of 10.

3 x 🦞for 10 person , lobster soup, scallops and so much more . Food is enough for 15 or more .

Super tasty Chinese sausages and fish soup. All dishes were top class.

Came here for a family gathering the other night and was able to enjoy a wide variety of dishes.
Really enjoyed the steamed fish - which was perfectly cooked and super fragrant.
Unfortunately the sweet and sour pork was A let down as the meat was quite dry and not crispy either.
The restaurant also gave us little steamed buns at the end along with red bean soup which was really nice of them!

Canton Lake restaurant is pretty damn good. The restaurant itself is quite clean and bright.
We ordered 4 dishes: Salt & pepper calamari, a seafood mussels dish, stir fried beef and some greens.

Honestly, there is not much to say when there is almost nothing to fault with the food. Good atmosphere, good lighting, good service compared with other restaurants in the area and nice to have some prawn crackers to start off. Highly recommend, great for a large get together with some friends.

Celebrated my birthday here with family yesterday, it was a very pleasant experience, we ordered the set dish for 6ppl, the dishes were quite tasty especially the black pepper beaf, the mud crab, oyster and fish were very fresh, chicken also delicious. It would be better if the fish could be bigger as I was told it should be around 1kg but obviously not the size. The service was very decent, the waiters and waitresses keeping changing our plates now and then and cut the cake and took group photos for us after seeking our permission. Definitely a place worth return.

The plethora of Chinese restaurants in Box Hill always makes it difficult to choose a place to eat. Canton Lake Restaurant offers good service, bright (if not a bit stark) lighting and generous serves of decent Chinese food. They do the deep-fried dishes particularly well if you ignore the health factor. The steamed fish and prawns were also very palatable. I have tasted better sweet and sour pork but it was still above average for a signature dish. A very nice meal but not outstanding.

1st time here and definitely worth a return visit! was only able to sneak in one pic as was with guests who were a bit horty torty around food. 🤪😩😂😱 has to give face!! alamak!

Crab noodles - 4/5 great flavours not high in msg. One of the better ones tried

Oysters - 5/5 very delish fresh and succulent

Yellow Oil Chicken - 5/5 my favourite! reminds me of many a times crossing the Shenzhen border just to appease my cravings for this same level of quality and authenticity in flavour!

Steamed Barramundi - 2.8/5 was ok only but not that great maybe a bad batch.

WIR? Yep!

Brought my family to have dinner here. The staff were attentive and the dishes came in really big portion. The staff even helped my kids removed the lobster shell.

Located on the bustling Station Street strip of what is now known as Bok Hill. Always love going to Box Hill because I can get authentic Asian food reasonably priced and extremely tasty.

Ambiance was basic but inviting with lots of diners, you may need to book ahead. They offer a seafood menu with live fish tank and good selection of Dim Sum and banquet options.

The food was delicious, fresh and full bodied flavours. Ordered mainly fish dishes and in particular the soft shell crab was amazing, topped with lots of spices. Also tried the Seafood San Choi Bao and again the filling was full bodied with quality ingredients. A must.

This place is not known for its quality of food and service. The price is on the high side.
Tonight our music group decided to give it a go since we could not get in our usual eatery.
Yes. It lived upto its reputation.
The bean leaf shoots dish was tough and oh so salty. The 4 season bean dish was oh so salty. The egg and prawn was healthy but the egg was devoid of any oil. The sweet and sour pork was no better than what I cooked in the chop suey restaurants of the sixties. .......really. Enough said. And nothing justified the price.
I give 1 star.

For lunch. The price, the serve size, the noodle dishes were quite acceptable. I give it a 3.

The average is therefore 2.
The main lunch specials are excellent value. A char kway teow (just under $11) and a spring onion cake (just under $4) easily satiated my mum and me. The char kway teow was gigantic and flavoursome. But the spring onion cake was tiny and somewhat soggy. I suspect the appetisers and dim sum selections aren't great value. Next time we'll grab two mains and take the leftovers home.

Came here after pondering what to eat on the busy Station Street strip in Box Hill! What a great choice! We had the combination seafood hot pot, a serve of stir fried Chinese vegetables with garlic and a serve of rice each. Such a delicious meal in a great environment and friendly wait staff. We previously came here and the food took ages to arrive and was still delicious! Since a change of owner this has improved tenfold. Will definitely come back again to try their other dishes!
Vivian
I come here usually with my family when we go out for special occasions or take friends out. The food is usually a hit or miss ( depending if they change chef hands ) . I can say currently the food is great , the seafood especially is cooked very well and cheaper than alot of similar Chinese restaurants around

Canton Lake is a great Chinese family restaurant located in Box Hill which provides excellent customer service. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We booked a table for 10 and also at the convenience we pre-ordered some dishes beforehand. For entree, we had the combination cold platter. XO spices were top notch and had more than enough for 10 servings. Our main for the night was an enormous sized coral trout, which was big enough to cook a soup, 2 other main dishes. The pate cooked snow crab however was a a little let down. The crab was quite small itself and only enough for 1 piece per person. We were lucky enough to be served a fair amount of complimentary desserts and fruit platter. Overall, decent serving and lived up to the quality. Definitely recommend Canton Lake if you are looking for a decent Chinese restaurant that offers excellent service and great quality food.

First time here We absolutely loved it Super fresh food and HUGE servings Our Chinese friends recommended it and we will definitely be back

Thanks for serving us Great food

Came here with my family on a Saturday night looking for a casual dinner so we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. Really good service, large serving sizes and vibrant atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.

food was excellent, staff were friendly, very busy environment but service was still immaculate. we ordered food for four people on a Saturday night but food came promptly and was a large serving. would come back again

Best place for live seafood dishes. Friendly staffs and good advices on the seasonal dishes for any occasion and party size. Also a very good lunch place for cook to order yum cha dishes or noodles and congee specials.
Luke Martini
This is our place for crayfish with ginger, shallots and noodles. So delicious and flavorsome. When not doing that we have also come here for succulent Chinese favorites such as sweet and sour pork, Cantonese style beef and lemon chicken. Yum!
Eatabelle
Friendly and fast service! Great taste and generous portions. It's rare for my family of five to have leftovers, but we had some this time! And we definitely stuffed ourselves to the brim.
Ordered Pippies with XO sauce, Chinese broccoli with garlic, salt and pepper fried chicken, Seafood hot pot with Japanese tofu and Beef with English mustard.
Really enjoyed the pippies with XO sauce, except I would have preferred for the chinese donuts to be served on another plate or separately. I like them crispy instead of soggy from being served in the sauce.
We tried the Beef with English mustard dish on the waiter's recommendation. The combination wasn't something I had tried before, but I like English mustard so thought it tasted okay. My brother wasn't a fan though.
Complimentary dessert of fruits, sweet soup and a lovely little sponge flower cake for each person!

Overall, an enjoyable experience and just what we wanted to celebrate a special occasion!

Didn't know they have reopened . Had tried a couple of times before they went for interior deco some months ago . You can tell from its regulars -- senior Cantonese speaking customers , it serves good Cantonese food. Great authentic flavour , reasonable price. Hopefully that remain unchanged .

Canton Lake is doing solid canto fare again and the fam enjoyed a meal of crab noodles, sweet & sour pork and scallops with veggies. Highly recommend ignore the rating - might have had a few rough patches with different owners - but the current incarnation is serving up delish dishes.
I S2 Food
Nice restaurant filled with older generation Chinese families. Food here is nice tasty and light. We really enjoy the crispy pig intestine and the salted egg fried chicken.

Banquet
Dont really get the banquet at chinese restaurant so this was a change. Crab noodles and the fish would have been the main dished. Both of which i enjoyed, noodles were tasty and really had the crab taste through it. The fish was well cooked and came of easily from the bone. Overall the food was above average and the banquet had many dishes to keep us quite full.
Slightly cramped seating arrangement but everything was kept very clean.
The Whippeteers
"WASSUP, PRETTY BOY???" - said the old lady to the young waiter, as she BARGED in tonight. (Dim aa leng zai??)

Yes, there are plenty of regulars, who are PRETTY comfortable coming here.

We were in the mood for CANTO FOOD. Had steamed chicken (cold), beef with XO sauce, and pork spare ribs. All were cooked to perfection. These guys know their stuff. Washed down with a TSINGTAO beer.
This Whip especially enjoyed the XO beef, sooo tender/smokey.

The Whippeteers reckon the steamed FREE RANGE chicken here is MUCH BETTER than ANY HAINAN CHICKEN. ANYWHERE. Disagree???? PROVE US WRONG lol.

The price was VERY REASONABLE.

Btw we came home and Wasabi 'the super pup' had RIPPED the GUTS out of a PILLOW on the couch. DOH!

A comfortable Chinese Restaurant off the main road in Box Hill. We had the Chinese New Year 8-people banquet which came with a really good variety of dishes - pigeon, chicken, oysters, sea cucumber, just to name a few. The crayfish with noodles was the best (flavoursome noodles with crayfish juices). The other dishes were all at quite good standards - so I'm surprised that the Zomato score for this restaurant is so low. The steamed cake was also another notable dish which was delicious and simple. Overall, service was adequate for a Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, they run two seating (5:30pm till 7:00pm) which is very rushed given food only starts being served after 6:00pm (this is the reason why my rating had lowered from a 4.0 to a 3.0).

My sister and her hubby lovee their tanghoon with crab there, but since i dont like ebi (dried shrimp), i didnt really fancy it, as thats the whole flavour of this dish, the pigeon and tofu with salted egg yolk was good, the rest like the clam, veggies, chicken etc was only so-so.
Service was good, but my family member can speak chinese&cantonese (dunno if theres any dif if westerner as customer) as there might be a bit of langguage barrier, might not.

Came here again last nite and the food were okay, we realise the ownership has been changed and the tang hoon with snow crab tasted different, its dry and not much of ebi flavour anymore, i kind of like it.
Ah and the dish itself cost $172.
The fried yam was not as good as i thought, it was mushy and tasteless. Chicken was cold and theres lots of jelly there, tastewise wasnt that good either.
The rest such as mince pork with long bean in xo sauce, stir fry tomiaw/snow pea leaf were standard.
Service were good as usual, but wont go back considering the quality and the prices.

28 July 2016: Came here with seven other seniors. One senior who did the ordering of dim sim ordered many types (please see photos). Most were yummy except one or two being only good. What I like about this restaurant is that it is huge. I believe it has more than 50 tables. So no reservations need be made. Service was good. And the other striking picture is that it doesn't hit your hip pocket. I ate lots and my share of bill was only $12.50. Real value for money. Chinese tea is free and it's branded, not the tasteless ones some two star outlets give you. Definitely coming back

Not bad service, Fast enough, great tasting special fried rice.

I work around the corner, I do believe I may become a regular.

How was your experience?
Damien Battersby
Worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Slow service. They forgot a drink we ordered. The food was terrible including fried rice, how do you mess that up.

Save your money and go somewhere else.
Wintice
Food was nice and generally had big portions, but a bit more expensive than other places. We had salt and pepper ribs which had just the right balance and wasn't too salty; salted egg yolk chicken which was not as nice as other restaurants, felt they didn't use enough egg yolks and wasn't that aromatic. We ordered Cantonese beef and even though the flavour was nice, it wasn't cooked well enough and was hard to bite apart. The fresh steamed fish was tiny and not worth it. Seafood combination bowl was better than other places in terms of size. Think if coming here, order normal meat dishes, not seafood or crabs (we didn't order crab because it's frozen, not fresh).
The last time we came here they were understaffed and they were busy serving the big party of Chinese upstairs with wagyu and lobsters and we waited for an hour before food was served. During that time we saw other customers receiving the same neglect and complained and left.
With these types of venues, always better to bring your own tea leaves. Better tasting and not charged with the ridiculous tea charge
Tony
Low ratings are rubbish. This place is pretty good for a Chinese feast.

We had the whole duck, a few beef dishes, pork, 2 vegetable dishes and 2 seafood dishes. They were all fantastic and decently priced. Nothing outstanding but certainly deserves more than its current rating.
TresHungry
I'm surprised at the low ratings, because I found the food to be decent when I had a meal here. Came here for dinner with a very large group of friends. All the dishes we tried were great. I especially loved the fried taro pieces. Pretty authentic Cantonese food. Can't comment on the price because I didn't pay for the meal.

I went here with my parents for lunch today because we wanted yabbies. We've been here a couple of times before for family dinners and it was ok. We got a thing of yabbies and fried rice to share. The yabbies were done in a chili sauce which had some Sichuan pepper in it. They were nice but I thought they were a bit over cooked which was a bit disappointing. The special fried rice was nice but nothing special. The service wasn't the best. There was only one person working there who understood enough English, he was nice but kept asking us if we wanted to order more food. Even though we ordered yabbies which are messy we had to ask for a bowl to wash our hands and more napkins.

Pretty average all round.
Service wasn't the best, the boss lady was sitting behind us on a table working out her profits and yelling in a foreign language at the staff.
Food, ok, nothing I would run back for
Atmosphere, had none.
They bought out a live fish in a bucket for the table next to us, it splashed on us, so gross.

Why?

Why would you only employed minimal floor staff to cover your FULL restaurant for Sunday Yumcha session? You wonder why the young waitress is so abrupt, rude and don't response to your requests.

Why it took so long for 3 Congee (porridge) to come? Nearing the end of Yumcha, surely they are all made ready in a pot.

Why no food trolley come by every 10 minutes? Do you want us to consume your food?

Why would you expect us to come back and spend more money there?

PS. Mediocre taste, except Prawn Dumplings a tad better
Occasionalist
It was pretty busy when we got there. Service was very fast, maybe a tad too fast because the lady got our order wrong as she literally took 30 seconds to madly scribble it down.

We asked for chilli sauce, which we got. But we also got another sauce which we haven't come across at a yum cha place before. It was a bit like balachaung in oil. Interesting but not quite sure where it fit in. It was a very South East Asian thing as opposed to Chinese but maybe I'm wrong and it totally is a Chinese thing (?).

Anyway, it was alright but not outstanding. Great if you're hungry and just want to be fed and out the door.
My Kitchen Sucks...
The Canton Lake Restaurant had done something that not even the great Professor Steven Hawking can do. In that a quality of a restaurant can go into free fall faster than gravity itself now that it had changed hands. Where exactly do I begin?

- Service was slow and mediocre at best. All the waiters like to hang around the front of the restaurant so our whole table suffered as we were sitting in the back
- The fried dim sums were as cold as the depth of space itself
- The steamed dim sums were the exact opposite with the dumpling skins virtually decomposing in front of our eyes
- The boss lady's face expression is so stiff and lifeless but that might had been due to too much Botox

- They even charged tea for the kids... REALLY???
- Everything were salty apart from the deserts. Thank goodness the chef can distinguish between salt and sugar

Any good points? At the very least the puff egg tarts were pretty decent...

But if you want to charge a premium price then do provide premium food and services.

Can't wait for Fu Long to open again to give some competition back into Boxhill for Yum Cha. Avoid this place until then...
Tom
This is your typical canto restaurant with Australian prices. The food was average and I felt I was being mocked as we aren't of the same heritage as the restaurant owners
Jenster
Terrible service. Staff have no clue what customer service is or even how to efficiently run a restaurant. Waiting 20 minutes for a trolley to come past is unacceptable for a place that holds itself out as serving yum cha, especially during Saturday lunchtime.

Ordering food off their limited menu is even worse, one of the dishes tasted off. Like it was leftovers from a couple of days ago that had been left out overnight then microwaved.

I don't expect much by way of service at most Chinese restaurants, but I do expect that there is food, the food to be edible and for things to come out quickly.

This one is a fail. Which is unfortunate because the old Canton Lake was quite good. The new managers have absolutely no idea what they're doing.
J.zee
Ambience of this restaurant isn't great, but it ticks the box for taste. Their shark fin soup IS VERY AUTHENTIC. No vermicelli noodles to trick you into thinking its actual shark fin.

We had a lot of love seafood for this meal so it ended being quite pricey. They definitely overcharged us for the weight of live seafood (which is quite common for all Chinese restaurants), except I think this restaurant was unreasonable compared to the norm
Contactldwct
A newly refurbished restaurant. Very busy and noisy. Good food. Generous portions. Room for service improvement...
Melbourne_Robot
Perhaps try elsewhere first. Dined here for sunday yum cha. Make sure you ask for the English yum cha/dim sum menu if you need it.
Not the cheapest dim sum, $5-$8 per serving for example 3 dumplings.
Prawns in cheong fun were tasteless.
Service is really slow and the kitchen forgot dishes.
Order the egg tart early as they sold out by 1pm.
Ricky Musgrove
Since moving to melbourne it's been hard to find a good yum cha place. This has become our local an is for the most part consistent and has all the favourites.
Ecto_78
Shocking Food and Services at Premium Prices, Do Not Try!. We were going to Tien Dat at Carrington Rd Box Hill and thought we give Canton Lake a taste test since we have been in the neighbourhood for 10 years but never tried Canton Lake. The lady greeted us and sat us down immediately for Yum Cha. The first pass was dumplings in pork, prawns and scallops. We chose the scallops as it was the only thing that looked fresh. Sadly, the scallops tasted fishy and appeared they have sliced one scallop into 3 pieces to save costs. We then waited for 10 minutes to get the attention of the service manager to order stir fried food. At checkout, the scallop dumplings cost $8! I can't believed they served staled food and charged top dollars when the scallops are not even served whole.

This place is a ripped off, I felt disgusted enough that I had to sign up to urbanspoon and shared what's happened. I wish I had taken a photo of the THING.
Sijie Zhou
Alright food, but poor service. Had a big dinner with 10ish friends, took almost 2 hours before all dishes were on the table, by which time were all full.
Plates were only emptied midway through main. Had shells of crabs when the first few dishes arrived. Nowhere to eat, pretty much :-(
There are better places for similar quality.
Sambibabe168
Worst ever Chinese restaurant. The new management is absolutely disgusting! Waited food for 45 minutes and there were only a few tables filled, the lady offered free fruits and dessert, but never came out (so we left) and charged extra for the steamed fish! We've been to this place a few times and really enjoyed there, but the new management is just beyond awful. Please visit other fine Chinese restaurants, otherwise you will be disappointed with the worst service and get ripped off!
Tan_be
Cashier demanding payment in cashier. I do agree that the food is not up to expectation but to be treated like we cannot afford to pay by the cashier is absolutely disgraceful. Cashier told me she cannot accept my credit card because there is an item on the bill that is on special for the day. I suggested that I will pay for that 1 item in cash and have the rest with credit card but she insisted that the whole bill of $98 be paid in cash. When I insisted that that we were not aware of the special dish and were not told of the payment arrangement, she started talking in cantonese, which I do not understand. When I insisted that my preference is to pay with credit card, she was rude, abrupt and shafted my card into the machine and then told me it was rejected. I eventually had to pay with cash. I went out to Box Hill chemist and paid for an item 15 minutes later and there was nothing wrong with my card. So Canton Lake management, your service is disgraceful and if you intend to do " cash business" you need to put a big sign up. Embarassing your customers is poor service delivery and they do not come back.
Haneul
Disgusting Service. The service of the staff displayed towards us was absolutely disgusting.
Mk Lim
Totally unprofessional service. No greetings when we entered firstly. The waiter delivered a wrong dish and demanded the payment which we refused. Later on, we witnessed the waiter was scolded by the manager. The waiter then came to us and nearly yelled at us that he now has to pay for the dish that he mistakenly delivered. WE WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT.
Ljatpt
Bad service ! The restauran.... Bad service !
The restaurant is set out badly, and waitress kept asking us to get out of our seats to make way for their trolley..
No please or thank you.
Carnivore
Had very typical yum cha dishes, waited so long that we only had 6 between two of us and they were not even dishes we wanted. We got the shock of a lifetime with a bill of $20 a head. Never coming back with that service and pricing.
Chang101
Mr Chang. Good and big serve but very slow and poor service, waited more than 40 mins for the ordered dish!
Jess N
Extremely disappointed with the customer service. I asked what vegetables were in the mixed vegetables dish and I could not be given an answer as the waiter did not know and would not find out for me. When our food came out we were not given rice and had to ask twice for it. Then when we were leaving we had to ask two different people for the bill and waited fifteen minutes before we received it. The food was pretty good yet the customer service ruined our experience.
Marry
Common. I have heard 6 people ordered lobster, or crab or fish for dinner, but never heard someone ordered lobster and crab and fish. R u sure dat ur order and ur words r ture? I have been to this restaurant for 3 yrs and for my opinion, their food and service are excellent. Compare with Gold Leaf burwood restaurant, canton lake is much more better than them. As I know, canton lake is the biggest seafood restaurant in box hill and with excellent food and service.
Little K Kitchen
We wanted a nearby dinner seafood option, was very disappointed with both service and food. We ordered barramundi lobster and crab and was told they had chosen cod instead of barramundi. The cod was 3 pounds and when we said that we didnt want the cod they said they had started cooking already, there was only 6 of us so we decided to ask for a cancellation of one of the dishes because we still had vegetables and rice after asking to cancel one of the other dishes the waitress started bargaining prices about the cod going from 220 down to 175. After waiting about 45 minutes we finally got our food which was averagely cooked. After asking three times for our vegetables and then finishing all our mains we were fed up and told the waiter to cancel the vegetables which then came out 10 minutes after we had finished the meal. We sent it back and then was told that the vegetables was already cooked. We went to pay the bill not only did they extra charge for rice which was ordered the promise price of 175 for fish was not put but 220 was and when questioned the waitress said her boss "did not approve it" we quickly paid and left we definitely will not be returning to this place. Rude and unorganised. Simply a horrible dinner experience full stop
Mglover
Robert Belzer. Ordered the Three Sliced Meats off the lunch menu today expecting some barbequed pork, duck and chicken. Instead we got a large bowl of claggy noodles with a few bits of spring onion and canned muchrooms. After a search we found a few shreds of chicken, pork and calamari. Very disapointing. I won't be back.
Wendy Bourke
Food was great. Enjoyed a great family dinner on the weekend, food was excellent, service not as good and quite slow, staff need to improve communication skills. Meals were all very good and peking duck and mud crab were both excellent. Recommend to anyone looking for traditional chinese cuisine.
John Chow
The food is plan no taste. The service is very bad and slow waited over an hour for the order to come out and its after we complained and complained. O don't forget to check your bill for over charge
Rob
Food is OK but the service is very very slow
Waited over an hour for the first dish ordered and only after we complained
Every staff is running around but nothing seems to be getting accomplished
Wei
I have to agree with Jason, hoping other close their hard work is unacceptable. The food is good, my family and I always go there for dinner and yum cha.
definitely recommend
Jimmy Cho
Ill put it another way for Jason to understand. Would you like to eat at an atmospheric restaurant or would you like to eat in the toilet. Cos it doesn't matter what they bring out this is what it's compared to. Canton lake = eating in toilet.

-----14 Aug, 2013-----

It appears people think the restaurant is so great and yet score is 52% - so we can agree there's no consistency. My original review was removed because of how angry I was after having a meal there. So if you must know what type of restaurant it is, let me list it for you
- entered at 7:30pm, received food at 9:30pm, 9:30pm.. People have left already
- asked waiters what's going on and got rudely yelled at (only when told him off that he quietened down).
- when prompting waiters some dont understand because everyone speaks different language
- waiter telling manager we are cocky, because we can't wait... Umm 2hrs not long enough?
- chef screaming in background not to rush him
- when food came out, mains before entree
-When received bill they also double charged the crab.
As I went for a celebration I restrained myself from making scene... If putting a post is immature, the people who have defended them must be rubbish and enjoy trashy restaurants. 1 star restaurant

-----11 Aug, 2013-----

I do not know why my initial review of this place has been removed. Terrible service(waited till restaurant was empty till food came out), amateur waiters and chef that tries to rip customers off! How you might ask? 6 crabs with 12 claws, only 2 claws turned up, others must've dissolved.. Then got charged for 12 crabs. Err.. Lets see how long you remain opened.
Sam
Excellent. I have been to this restaurant three times, once with dim sim and twice dinner, the food that was served was delicious and never disappoint. The beef brisket on soup was superb. We also ordered fry whitebait, snow peas, spicy beef and all of them were fantastic. Definitely recommend it.

Restaurant packed - there is a good reason for that!. When I decide to go to a Chinese / Cantonese restaurant, I first see if there are people inside. This place is packed! Asian aunties and uncles - people who know good Chinese food! ;)
Wasn't disappointed, the food was very yummy, portions generous. Will certainly go back! I guess the new management is doing a much better job. Keep it up!
Alpha Lau
Yumcha dimsum at Canton Lake Box Hill 万豪. In its third incarnation, now known as 万豪 "ten thousand luxuries", service is with a smile and food is generous, if as little "safe". Can't argue with a restaurant packed with Chinese families lunching with the grandparents.
Vince Loriggio
Finally a decent yum cha res in box hill
Very good service. Great HK style yum cha.
Food
Receptionist/Waiters not good. My friend booked a table for 12 over the phone and when I got there, receptionist/waiter showed me the booking sheet and a line just said 12 people without any booking name (all others have booking names). I waited for my friend to turn up for 10 minutes and none of the waiters came and asked me if I want a table. Then I called my friend but he didn't answer his phone. Then I asked the waiter if there is a table for 12 available and he said I have to wait for 15 minutes so the table can be set up upstair. I said ok then my friend called me back and said they are in one of the rooms upstairs. I am taken by surprise the restaurant are not interested in making money!! Where is the welcome? Where is the customer service?

Super cheap lunch $6.80 if you could tolerate with the shop manager's attitude. My son had his empty MacDonald's drink and was told off. Duh! Food not that great only price is. For no fuss, don't care diners.

Did they get a new chef with the new owners? The food is no where near as nice as it used to be!

Superior food and service. The service is swift, efficient and very friendly. The owner Steve loves to talk about chinese cooking. The serves are really large, so you could easily get out for $30 per head. Try the Sechuan Tofu. Just the right amount of spice.

Food is bland! Disappointed!

Extremely disappointed!. All dishes were small, staff were not helpful and service was slow. One of our dishes were Lamb hotpot, all other restaurants served with either Spinash or Chinese Veg. Canton Lake serves with lettuce!!!! totally disaster, the hotpot was big but there were no meat, it came with soup only. We complaint to the staff and Management team but none of them even bother to come and talk to us....definitely not going back and would not recommend to anybody to this restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!
