Review Don Udon - Box Hill

Great food. Came with my kids. The waitress was friendly. Didn’t take long for the food to come. I believe the owners are genuine Koreans and thus the food is very authentic. Will return for sure. The chicken wings are especially good.

Very Very delicious, yummy🔥🔥🔥 The only problem ís just the portion of the food - it is quite small. I think I can finish one more dish! And I really appreciate the chef who makes all the dish beautiful🤗 Also the girl staff is very very nice too😉🖒 Must come again again and again 😎😎

Friendly staff, fair price, good enough quantity, place is neat and clean. This place is open from 11:30am till 10:00pm(mon-sat). On your day-off when you think about lunch only at 3:00PM this is a go to place. I used to order take-away from here a lot. The chef knows me by name and knows how much spiciness I can handle. I go here often with my wife. We love the kimchi soup with pork and the sizzling spicy chicken and sizzling pork.

I am Japanese and I always miss Japanese food. This restaurant makes exactly Japan tastes, or probably even better tastes than Japanese local restaurants. Australian teriyaki flavour is NOT “Teriyaki”. Here’s the real teriyaki that shows how it tastes like. I don’t eat spicy food so I can’t guarantee if spicy menu are also very good though. Just try Don and Udon. Korean rice dishes are very good too btw.

The best spicy udon(jjam-bbong) I have ever had in Melbourne. My family members enjoyed tastefully spicy food here in this restaurant. Clean venue, nice hall staff, and yummy dishes.

Absolutely delicious!! Generous servings, friendly service and well priced. We'll be back next time we're in Box Hill!

Yummy korean/jap food. Love their Kim chi fried rice, tokkbokki and the spicy udon yumz. On negative note, they're pretty expensive and small portion though

Ginseng soup and sizzling beef are my favourite. The prawn fried dumpling is delicious too.

LIT!: we ordered a lot of dishes to share. I really enjoyed the tofu and the deep fried seaweed roll. The roll was super crispy! The bimimbap was so tasty but wish there was more meat to rice ratio.
Thanks for having us! X

Booked a table via zomato app, and got a confirmation fast. Service was good. Waitresses were polite and accommodating. Did not wait long for the food except for the spicy seafood udon which tasted great. Worth the slight wait. Nice experience overall. Would recommend.

Food is absolutely amazing. My partner and I keep coming back! Obsessed! We've yet to have a bad experience and eat here more than we should.

Large portions, fair price, consistently good, fast and very very friendly service!

Good service and cheap prices! Greeted with a smile and sat down immediately. Tried the kimchi rice with pork, sizzling pork belly and miso soup. Happy with all the food, pork belly came with pickled vegetable and other condiments to add flavour. Overall would go back!

I went here with my sister for dinner tonight because we felt like Japanese or Korean. I ordered Okayo Don which said "pan seared chicken in a special sauce" it tasted like teriyaki chicken cooked in egg, it was nice. I also ordered the agedashi tofu which was yummy but quite expensive for what it was. My sister ordered some kimchi stew which she really liked. She also commented about how clean the place looked. I thought the lady working here was very nice and smily. Before we left we ordered a takeaway chap chae which is sweet potato noodles with beef, I tried a bit of it when I got home and had food envy. I'll definitely come back here and order the chap chae.

Across the road near the tram stop, Don Udon is a bit further away from the main strip of restaurants in Box Hill. It has a Japanese/Korean style menu - neither of which is very authentic - so I think it's probably Chinese owned like all the other places in Box Hill.

Food was decent tasting, but portions were a tad small considering it was around $13-15 per dish. Quality was okay, but my udon only had scraps of meat in it, less than what I would expect for $13. I would say the portions would be enough to feed a female, but not enough for a male. I'd say it would be more like a portion you would eat at home, rather than when you eat out (I don't know if it's just me, but I tend to eat more when I'm out compared to at home).

Service was pretty terrible, we were ignored for several minutes when we walked in. Staff just took our order, put our food down and that was it. It's been a while since I've encountered mediocre Chinese restaurant customer service.

Overall I would probably be back if I'm in box Hill and feel like some light Korean/Japanese food, due to the lack of other similar restaurants in Box hill.

A casual eating place that serves Japanese and Korean cuisines at the same time. Menu highlights include a variety of udon dishes, Korean rice dishes, sizzling and soup/in clay pot. We were served by friendly staff and ordered – agedashi tofu, chap chae, kimchi fried rice (pork) and teriyaki salmon. The meals we had were pretty good compared to other eating places in Box Hill. This is the place to go if you are looking for good food, good service and good value! Totally recommended!

The better one in Box Hill.

Where will you find an authentic Japanese food in Box Hill?

Well this place is not an authentic Japanese restaurant, pricey too but I would say the better one there.

Enjoyable lunches.

Dorothy Kwak. Everything we ate was prepared with care and was delicious. It was very quiet the night we were there, and we wondered if it was because this little gem is a little removed from the main strip of eateries in Box Hill. A lot of those diners on the other side of Whitehorse Rd don't know what they are missing out on!

Worst Korean food ever. This place has the worst Korean food I have ever had in Melbourne. Do not go here. They cook with like a bucket of sugar, it was so sweet I couldn't even finish the dishes which were tiny for the price. Not going back here again, very disappointed.

Had dinner there last night. Love my choice of Beef Rib noodle soup, was very yummy! They gave u an extra bowl for u to put the bone, thoughtful! Thanks :)

Small servings. Came here for dinner and had 2 of their sizzling dishes. Prices were expensive for what we were served. The servings were small and it wasn't yummy. I've had much better Korean food in the other restaurants in Box Hill. Must say I'm very disappointed. I was looking forward to my meal after seeing how highly it's rated but now I'm left wondering why. Will not be back again.

MR Levent Osman. I had the stone pot bibimbap and the panko prawns for lunch everything was very very tasty and i would eat there again whenever i am in the area, Service was fast, kim chi and korean fish cake appertisers free of charge and they try to keep refilling them i had to stop them as i was getting way too full! waitress and staff were very friendly and helpful
Jessica
The food is nice and servers are friendly. Maybe not the most well known restaurant in the area but definitely worth trying.

Approached by friendly waitress. Food were served fairly quickly and finally a nice Korean place in this area!

10.50 for 2 minute noodles with soup!? What a joke of a ramen...

Yummy korean. Really yummy food. Their Chap Chae is the best I have had in Melbourne and their Gingsen Chicken is super good. Service is great as well very attentive and will constantly refill our kimchi once finished. I have been here twice in the last 2 weeks craving their Chap chae and will definitely be back to support them

Lovely. I come in 2-3 times a week, usually after work. Nice Korean food and very friendly staff. Their dolsot bibimbap is one of my favourites. You can also ask for extra kimchi.

Great!. Very good Korean food. One of the best in the area. They're marketing themselves as a Korean/Japanese restaurant so unfortunately their Korean selection is somewhat small. Would have really liked to see galbitang and yukgaejang, since their other Korean selections were so good!

Back for more.... We had wonderful a meal here at Don Udon last month, first impressions, this restaurant was immaculate, cleanliness 10/10. Staff was very attentive and polite also.
We ordered the Cold Noodles which was pretty darn good. The Beef ribs were delicious, as was the bibimbap. Ingredients on all meals ordered were all really fresh.
Will certainly be back for more Don-Udon!!

Keep up the good work guys!

Came here for lunch - they have great lunch deals (less than $10 a dish) and the food is tasty and good quality. Restaurant is nice and tidy, looks quite new. Definitely recommend it!

Very clean, spacious, friendly customer service, really delicious food at great prices esp the bimbimbap!! Yum as!!! The Japanese pancake was the only let down it was tasteless and expensive but apart from that everything was really good! Will definitely come back!

Don-Udon recently opened in Box Hill and joins the other Korean restaurants now established in Box Hill along. I’m guessing there is a sizeable Korean community here as there are also many grocery stores around too. Unlike the Box Hill Korean BBQ , Don-Udon doesn’t offer BBQ but they have plans to do hot pot in the winter months. Currently they offer a great selection of Korean and even a few Japanese dishes ranging from Udon noodle soup, Stir Fried Udon dishes, Ramen, Korean and Japanese rice dishes and even a few sizzling and clay pot dishes for something a bit different. We ordered the Bibim Bap in Stone Pot that is served scolding hot. It comes with beef, vegetables and fried egg with Korean chilli paste on rice. The stone pot retains heat remarkably well so if you’re ordering, it’s best to not touch the bowl. I love clay pot/stone pot dishes as the rice cooks and turns into this crunchy delight. All the ingredients here are fresh and especially tasty with the slightly sweet beef.
