Review Chit Chat Cafe - Box Hill

I enjoyed a delicious cup of coffee! However, I wish they were bit more welcoming to overseas visitors. Not going back. Thanks.

The environment is spacious and comfortable, we just drank coffee, there are not many hot dishes to choose from, and my friends left after not wanting to finish the coffee.

I decided to take this establishment after some recommendations and a special from my work. It was one of those moments where I did not take in my lunch therefore decided to take a quick and somewhat healthy bite for eat. First of all the service was quick and friendly. That is always a bonus as a gesture to supply small business in these times. My negative was that the special was advertised for $10.00 however I was charged $11.00. Was that $10.00 plus GST or have you increased the price? My next issue is honesty with credit card transactions and if you're going to add a charge please advise customer. Yes it was a small and insignificant charge however it speaks of honesty and integrity of the trader with their clients. The plus side to all of this was that the order was indeed tasty and and it indeed filled me until my dinner time where many fast food outlets do not do which leads to overeating. The last question will I return... It is a maybe however the next time I will take a better look at the price and question when it is incorrect.

OK CAFÉ FOR COFFEE AND LUNCH This café sits at the front of an office complex on Whitehorse Road – just a block away from Box Hill Central. It is a popular caffeine refuelling spot for office workers. It offers the usual wraps and toasted items and has quite few tables over two levels. People with mobility issues will be fine on the ground floor level.

Great, swift service. Delicious breakfast meals, very very filling and cooked perfectly. Lovely staff. Aesthetics are great too, simple and black. It was quiet when we were there so that may have contributed to the speed of the service.

Spacious nice place, good staff, well run, clean and good ambience.

Nicely renovated venue conveniently located in the heart of Box Hill, near the Town Hall and library. Came in around 2pm which was around time for the last order for food. I think they just recently re-opened for dining in so the food menu only consisted of a few choices. Opted for the chilli cheese scrambled eggs and they were done well, with a massive portion size. Would have preferred more flavour though, but that’s just my own preference. Flat white was ok and I liked the latte art.

Had a cup of cappuccino yesterday with my reusable coffee mug. Very friendly staff and good dining atmosphere. Nice spot for people working nearby.

Yes, it is true, the burgers are better at chit chat cafe. They recently changed owners and I thought I'd check to see if the quality of burger would remain the same. It did not disappoint. The mustard sauce was the key to this moorish burger. And the chips are a winner, too. I would also recommend the chicken pesto wrap when needing a quick bite. The coffee is nice, not excellent. But much better than any other cafes around. Service is nice and not overly friendly. Music is a bit heavy for a breakfast lunch time crowd though. I always feel like I'm at a rave.

Always friendly staff up for a chat. I generally go for their burgers, which are quite alright: Nothing to write home about, but definitely not bad. Haven't had the coffee so can't comment on that.

I have eaten here twice - once getting a takeaway grilled veggies wrap, and the second time eating in and getting a chicken schnitzel burger.

The vege wrap was tasty but a little bit small for the price.

The burger was unfortunately very disappointing - extremely dry chicken and what tasted like Praise mayonnaise. Putting average ingredients on a brioche bun does not make a great burger.

Coffee has been great on some occasions and disappointing on others, so consistency appears to be an issue.

I went here because I got bored while waiting for an appointment. The menu looked pretty basic so I decided on the breakfast burger 🍔. When it came out it looked delicious. It had a runny egg and nicely cooked bacon. The burger overall was yummy, the flavours of the tomato relish and maple syrup bacon worked well together. I was happy that the bacon wasn't too sweet. It was a bit messy to eat especially after the runny egg yolk leaked so it would've been nice if they gave me a serviette. The man working here was pretty friendly and he seemed to know a lot of the regulars which gave this cafe a good vibe. Despite the simple menu I think this cafe is one of the best you'll get in Box Hill. I much prefer Chit Chat to the Penny Drop because it's cleaner.

Friendly people, good coffee and delicious burgers and wraps! Couldn't ask for more. Red cup, penny drop, platform3 etc... all around popular cafe in box hill can't even dare to compare.
Highly recommended!

For the love of dark theme ....

Set up within the old "renovated" ATO office building.

Very rigid and dark from the outside; darken/tinted glass walls, simple white signage, modern and attractive. The dark theme continues inside this spacious, high ceiling cafe, complemented with lighted food display and replica of Industrial lightings above, which makes the stainless steel finish La Marzocco stood out. That's the ground floor. They have more tables on the mezzanine level.

Coffee wise; above average, well made, dark roasted, there are some sweets to go with it and plenty of pre-made paninis, etc.

Enjoyable service and hoping to come back more often.

Nice place to sit down for coffee and brunch.
A little bit off-site from the busy main Box Hill Central, this place serves the coffee-drinker purpose. Tried their Benedict breakfast & beef burgers, reasonable price with quality food, it’s actually not easy to get a breakfast with this quality & price within 10-20 km . Although their coffees are relatively expensive compare to others, they make a much better one in Box Hill, a ‘coffee desert’.

Really nice place. The food is delicious and comes in generous portions, the staff are all very friendly, and the space is bright and open. I will definitely go back again.

Awesome coffee!!!! The best iced mocha I've had in a long time. It also came with a little "shot" of extra coffee so I could make it as strong as I liked. :) Food was just as delicious. Ordered an eggs benny and they added bacon for me (a generous serving!) without a problem. Super friendly staff and fast service. Can't wait to get back there again and try their burgers.

Best coffee in BoxHill and surrounding area by a mile, I am very fussy with my coffee and these guys nail it every time.
After my 3rd visit the guys remembered my order, they are very friendly and open really early which is great for a tradie.
Standard cafe fare but they charge $4 for a coffee!

My friend had the chicken schnitzel focaccia which she said was very tasty and I noticed, very generously in fillings. I had the veggie roti wrap which was very nice also but a bit on the small side, especially @ $11 each. I know I could get something similar at another local cafe for $10 but admittedly, they do fill their foccacia's more here. But still not happy with the $4 coffee! This is Box Hill, the land of competition an cheap food.

26th June 2017 *Update* - returned with friends and I'm still not a fan. I had the 'cajun chicken salad'. The salad components were fine but it was drowned in so much vinegar dressing that I could only eat half of it. I also asked the for the aoli to be on the side but my salad arrived with aoli on top. Doubt I will return.

n.b. I also popped in here for a sit down coffee the other day and the waiter took ages to serve me and my coffee took too long to arrive. Can't say I will return. In fact, I just dropped my initial rating, sorry Chit Chat.

Chit Chat Cafe is a great new cafe in Box Hill away from the shopping centre (but not too far!). Decor is clean and fashionable. Eat on the street or inside upstairs or downstairs. I have trouble getting to it because of my work hours but will try to make an effort as they have an enticing menu. I just had a coffee and cheesecake which was very nice. Not sugary or rubbery

Downstairs from work makes this a great place to get lunch or a coffee on occasion.
Great service and quality of food/drinks make ChitChat990 a easy choice.
Smashed Avo is a good choice!
Beef Burger if you want something meaty!

Kicking myself for not selecting their magic coffee - I played it safe and had a latte, which turned out pretty good!
Friendly service, one of the best coffees I've had so far in Box Hill

I've been here a few times now and I'm looking forward to going back.

The staff were very friendly, the cafe itself is new and has a great look to it and most importantly the coffee and food was great. I had a short black and the beef burger/chips. It was tasty and prepared timely 👌🏻

*Hey Zomato, I much preferred the first detailed review I did for Chit Chat Cafe, but you seem to have lost it
:( You know the second time around the same review never feels as good right?============================================================================================================

On a lazy Sunday morning, just after 8.30 my daughter and I arrived front and centre at Chit Chat Cafe. We were the only customers initially, so we got to seat ourselves anywhere in this sleek, black space. We were greeted by multiple friendly guys also decked out in the ubiquitous black attire. Water was brought to our table along with the cute mini clip-board menu. Being an older gal, I appreciated the menu being large enough print to read without my glasses.

Not listed on the menu was Miss's favourite hot drink of the moment, but a request for a Mocha was no problem for the smiling staff, and it arrived quickly along with my black English Breakfast tea. Happily the tea was the perfect temperature, and it was - glory be - loose leaf to boot. My teen enjoyed her mocha, and when she was invited to have another she asked if they may consider giving it an even greater coffee boost. Once again, this was not an issue, and that second drink was enjoyed even more than the first.

Unfortunately we two ladies were both tempted by the same breakfast dish; The Chit Chat Benedict. Though I am told the Smashed Avo. is also very popular, we couldn't be swayed from going the same way. You have a choice of having it with pulled pork* or smoked salmon, along with spinach, hollandaise and Turkish bread (which is a lovely change from the trad. muffin option). In nothing but curiosity - surely not greed - we also selected three sides from a wonderful range, the incredibly affordable Herb Butter Mushrooms, the Chorizo and Maple Bacon (also well priced, the former at just $3.00 the later at a mere $4.00 each).

In good time our breaky arrived, perfectly crisp and golden Turkish bread with a lovely squidgy texture inside - not at all soggy - topped with wilted spinach, then very good quality smoked salmon, and a generous amount at that, a perfectly poached egg - soft, not rubbery white, and gorgeously golden runny yolk. All of this was naped with a modest amount of hollandaise. Full credit to chef for providing a respectable serve of hollandaise rather than overdoing it as I'd probably wish!

Of our sides the Bacon, two full rashers, was well cooked, the Chorizo sausage was delicious with a 'just right for breakfast' amount of spice, and the sausage was not hard crisp, but tender as I like it. The mushrooms though - wowz, they just looked like your everyday buttons, you know, pretty bland, but the aroma hinted at what we were about to enjoy, a big hit of thyme and vinegar, offset perfectly by the olive oil and butter, made these teeny little flavour bombs, and no sense of them being 'oily' at all. There was a lovely golden scorch on a few - even more of that would have only upped the anti further. I can't remember having button mushrooms with so much flavour. Speaking of flavour, how lovely to have a black pepper grinder on our table - nice one! The white pepper dust, so often on tables at cafes is always just that bit of a let down, and having a staff member arrive at your table with an oversized 'black pepper' a la Hale and Pace might be amusing, but I much prefer Chit Chat's idea!

We had a lovely view of the old post office, people started to trickle in either for take-away or a sit as we enjoyed our meal, but Chit Chat deserves more. We'd driven past Red Cup, which was nearly full, and our meal at Chit Chat was better than anything I've had at RC, so I hope the locals find this place soon. There is cheap parking underneath, but on Sunday morning, you can park out the front with ease early on, and it's free. Honestly, this place is worth hunting for a car space if our meal is anything to go by.

*I would have liked to try the pulled pork, but as the staff were not able to answer my question about female pork, I decided to play it safe. History has shown if the people aren't sure if the pork is male or female then it's too often male pork, which means a risk of boar taint - and that would absolutely spoil my breakfast. I envy those (men mostly) who don't have this issue!
