Review Colourful Dumplings - Box Hill

First visit and the food was absolutely amazing! Ordered all the waitress's recommendations - pan fried crispy dumpling buns, steamed dumplings, beef rice, braised pot belly pork rice and a pumpkin crispy cake for dessert. So so so yummy! Portions are really big though! So dont over order at a start. Freshly made and service took about 10 mins to serve. Kids are absolutely loving it! We will be back!

First time here. The dumplings are great especially the Xiao long bao. Everything else is definitely above average. The service was good, food came fast and cost was reasonable. They have so much food to choose from. Definitely be coming back here to try out everything else.

One of my worst restaurant experienced in this place. The management really need to pull their socks up. 1 star will too much to give.

We had the ox tongue rice, Xiao long bao and pan fried bun. The rice was delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Will be back to try the other dishes.

My favourite dumplings place to eat in Box-Hill! We walked in and was greeted by a waitress. They sat us down and was very quick to take our order. I must say, they were very quick and very ATTENTIVE!!! it's very rare to have the service that we got! Good Service 👍Recommend this restaurant.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Box Hill. I go here almost every week and I am familiar with most of staffs here. Good service attitude, traditional taste of Xiaolong dumplings (as a Shanghainese) and the milk tea. Recommend it to your guys.

This was my second visit as the food was good. However this time the food hygiene practices of the staff put me off. One staff member was cleaning the place with no gloves and then handling the dine in food. She was managing the takeways. In a span of 25 miniutes never even attempted to wash her fingers.

Heard all about the panfried buns. Very crispy and juicy. Pricing is also very affordable. Good size portions. Delicious and very happy with the melilla, will go back again soon.

By far the best dumplings in box hill. You can tell that they have taken the time and love making these dumplings. They are unique, Well presented, crisp and delicious. Not just your run of the mill dumpling shop. will come again.

We came here as we had never tried this restaurant before and realised it was new ! We were really surprised at how authentic it was . The traditional salted meat and bamboo soup was by favour my favourite . The xiao long bao was really nice too and the special beef rice was huge and satisfying

Very nice little chinese place in Boxhill. Fast & friendly service. The place is clean & comfortable to dine in.

Very nice Ox tongue rice & dumplings. Dry noodles was average but still enjoyable. Will definitely see myself returning 👍🏻

At Colourful Dumplings, I had the mini wonton soup, pork xiao long bao and the pan fried pork buns. The mini wonton soup was not great, leading me to add in way too much chili oil into it to make it taste acceptable.

However, the pork xiao long bao and the pan fried pork buns were quite good. While the pork xiao long bao was slightly salty, but aside from this slight issue, was fine. The inside had soup, which was great, and was just good overall.

It is near the box hill central station, although it is a small place, the food is surprisingly yum! And the service here is extremely friendly. I ordered the colorful dumplings and small serving of duck soup rice noodles, both of them are far more tasty than I expected. This place should earn a higher rating.

My family is from Shanghai where you can get some of the best Xiao Long Bao, Xiao Hun Tun (mini wontons) and Sheng Jian Bao (pan-fried pork buns) in the world, so it really says something that we enjoy having those three dishes at this restaurant. Way better than some of the popular restaurants in Chinatown + affordable + really great attentive service. This little place deserves more attention!!

I like xiaolongbao. It’s really taste. It’s best xiaolongbao I never had. Shop is clean. Cheap also. We will back again. My daughter like the colourful dumplings. Vegetable juice made for it.

The decor is simple but the service is friendly and fast. It's worth giving them a try. The dumplings are great, and my kids love the colorful dumplings so much, the lovely colors keep them eatting. It's a nice touch.

Your typical asian joint, a little cramp.
To be completely honest, they need to hire someone new to cook the dumplings.
30% of the dumplings were raw and cold/warm in the middle. When asked the staff to advise them it was raw they said that it was cooked. Despite it obviously being raw. See in the picture attached. If the raw pork wasn't enough, it was more obvious because you can still taste the raw dough of some of the dumplings inside.

From the coloful dumplings - the orange one (I think was fish as the filling) partially raw. The white one had pork in the middle. Definitely raw.

The plate of green dumplings few of them were also way undercooked. (Chive and pork)

The upside to it was whoever made the dumpling mixture for the crab and pork xiao long bao and the pork and chive dumpling. The flavour is really good.

I may give it another shot in the future, only because the flavours were really good and as long as I don't end up with food poisoning from raw pork tonight. Hopefully they hire someone who can actually cook the dumplings.
Seating is the normal Asian restaurant type which is a little bit tight but comfortable enough.
Now to the food, fried dumpling and xlbs were a must try but unfortunately they are fairly average. The skins were a little bit thick for both dumplings and the soup inside just didn't have much taste to it.
Braised beef noodle was good, noodles texture were just right, not too soft or too chewy.
There's nothing terribly wrong with this newly opened eatery, however nothing outstanding either.
Not sure how long it will survive in the competitive Asian dominated suburb of Box Hill
