Pineapple buns. Deep fried cream. Rice noodle. HK milk tea. Traditional HK street snack can not go wrong !!! Their desserts are great as well. Go there twice a month. Open till late. Couldn't resist.
The name is misleading, this is more than a desert lounge. It does a full range of Hong Kong style cafe meals at exceptionally good prices. The fare is simple, and if you are from Hong Kong, very familiar. There are some excellent ‘meal deals’ on the menu that allows you to pay as little as $15 a head. My rating is based on what they do, rather than a comparison with western restaurants.
Well not sure why this place deserves a 2.2? Personally enjoy my experience here. We had quite a lot of snacks and like street food desserts. Everything was good. Cheap tho.
Take his place for what it is, a casual place to hang out with mates, and have a snack or two. Don’t come here expecting food to change the world, and you’ll get it.
We came here after dinner from another place near by, and just wanted to find a place to hang out. We sat at the lounges and ordered the black sesame sweet soup (this was satisfyingly good), the mango shaved ice (great sharing dish) and the durian fritters with ice cream (tasty and good little snack).
Service was adequate and prompt, and the owner encouraged people to just hang out, play some card or board games and chill. So, if you are looking for a place to just sit and chat for a bit, consider this place.
Nice place for gathering. Very traditional Hong Kong taste. I felt less homesick every time I been there. Fully satisfied my tummy and emotion. Love it
Really great value lunch set that includes soup, a drink, a meal and dessert for only $8.80 on weekdays. The milk tea is strong Hong Kong style. If you're not from Hong Kong then you may not appreciate this style of food and decor. If you are, then this place will bring back childhood memories.
I love coming here for late night dessert because they're always open past midnight! The staff don't speak English that well so just point to the menu.. I usually go for anything with mango in it! Mango brings me happiness!
They have a vast range of Asian desserts.
Me and my friend are addicted to their thick toast with butter and condensed milk.
A great place to chat with friends at late night. But I always fall into sugar overdose here (I can't stop but keep on ordering).
Ps. Do not recommend their main dishes.
After dinner, we adjourned for supper which is Chinese desserts. I ordered the red bean soup w/red bean glutinous balls while my friend Katrine had the black sesame soup with huai shan. Each bowl is around $8.00 and it's hot and yummy. Not to forget we had the mini pineapple bun with butter (2) costs $5.50 which was great. Service was a bit slow because of a new worker who didn't understand the menu well but soon an elderly woman was very polite and entertaining. She even asked me to sit longer to chat since the restaurant had ample space to linger around. Menu has many other savoury dishes that is attractive for me to come back again.
A shabby looking place with gruff unprofessional service, that’s no surprise in many typical Asian restaurants because the only thing that matters is the food, not the formality. I point these aspects out not in the negative sense, but that it’s normal and accepted, and is not something to take personally for the infrequent visitor.
Who doesn't love Hong Kong and their desserts .....
This establishment typifies that Hong Kong-ness, games on table, messy, filled with everything you can think of (check out the Menu and storage area), a mixture of East & West, just less noise and crowds and most importantly nice desserts.
Always happy to re-visit this place.
Revising my review, as we ate a meal here today, which was a vast improvement on desserts of past. Again, the dessert we received was terribly lacking, but the entree and main was quite tasty. I love how HK calls a tomato veg soup borscht. I was caught out the first few times in HK. I had the pork in tomato sauce on spaghetti and my MIL had the fish in black bean sauce. On a really positive note the black bean sauce wasn't the sickly thick salty version of food courts. It was quite light. My tomato sauce was typically HK sweet and salty (but not overly so). That topped off with a lemon tea was really nice. The dessert of crumbled tofu sheets in sweet soup was quite watery and nothing memorable (like having a cup of hot water with 1/2 spoon sugar).
Nice retro feel to the place. Serves a good selection of contemporary Hong Kong style desserts. I had the HK Polo bun, washed down with a HK hot milk tea. Also tasted the mango pomelo sago which was very satisfying. Contrary to what is stated, they do not accept credit cards.
Traditional Hong Kong desert house with retro interior feel. Was going to dessert story but it closed so came here on a hot summer night.
This place has a very long opening hours and really suitable for a group of friends to come. The menu is just too Hugh! From snacks, mains to desserts. All the dishes are actually famous traditional cantonese dishes.
To be honest the service and food quality are just at acceptable point but because it's a fun place to go with friends (you can play chess while waiting for your food 😂) I'll give 3.5 overall. Just for group chats and eat.
Loved their fruit On ice! It was so refreshing on a hot day! The only bad thing was that their AC was not on so it was hot inside and the other thing was that the mango in the dessert didn't taste fresh. But I would definitely return to try other desserts in the menu!
All in all, I don't think we will go back to Monga for its savoury menu, but I can say quite surely that we will be returning to try some other dessert options.
Their special $8.80 with soup, main dessert & drink is decent and great value. Comes here for lunch usually. I do agree savory food is better than sweets here not as the name suggests!

Amazingly friendly staff! Always seeing if you need anything. Food is very decent for the prize (which is a bit on the expensive side), but we'll worth it. Good range of beverages and great happy hour deals. Very much recommend for a few beers in the heart of Box Hill.
Tuesday's burger with fries and the beer jug are amazing. Fast service, delicious taste and great price! The burger is big, gross meat, fries are crispy. They also have live music on Tuesdays so the environment it's great, beautiful energy! I have to go there on a Thursday and try their $17 Steak!
I am so glad that this place exists! I have had so many excellent Tuesday nights to remember here. A lovely sense of community, live music and really great value drink prices. the chicken paramas are not bad either. (one small improvement would be larger bathroom facilities...)
My first visit was 3 weeks ago & I vowed to return - so glad I did. Olive bread, Istra bacon, perfectly poached eggs, hollandaise with a touch of truffle, no less. Add in friendly and professional service & very reasonable pricing - end result, an extremely happy customer. Wednesday 28/8, 2 days later, came in knowing already I'd be ordering the steak sandwich. Bliss! The onion chutney, the divine chilli jam & the chips? And I'm not usually a chip fan. These were beyond magnificent. Oh, yes & the steak was good too. They'll soon be very tired of me, I'm practically moving in.
