Amazingly friendly staff! Always seeing if you need anything. Food is very decent for the prize (which is a bit on the expensive side), but we'll worth it. Good range of beverages and great happy hour deals. Very much recommend for a few beers in the heart of Box Hill.

Tuesday's burger with fries and the beer jug are amazing. Fast service, delicious taste and great price! The burger is big, gross meat, fries are crispy. They also have live music on Tuesdays so the environment it's great, beautiful energy! I have to go there on a Thursday and try their $17 Steak!

I am so glad that this place exists! I have had so many excellent Tuesday nights to remember here. A lovely sense of community, live music and really great value drink prices. the chicken paramas are not bad either. (one small improvement would be larger bathroom facilities...)

My first visit was 3 weeks ago & I vowed to return - so glad I did. Olive bread, Istra bacon, perfectly poached eggs, hollandaise with a touch of truffle, no less. Add in friendly and professional service & very reasonable pricing - end result, an extremely happy customer. Wednesday 28/8, 2 days later, came in knowing already I'd be ordering the steak sandwich. Bliss! The onion chutney, the divine chilli jam & the chips? And I'm not usually a chip fan. These were beyond magnificent. Oh, yes & the steak was good too. They'll soon be very tired of me, I'm practically moving in.

Went there for lunch last Saturday afternoon was given a menu and was shown to our seats. Left sitting there for 15 minutes waiting for someone to comeback and take our orders. Managed to get the attention of a staff member, asked could I make an order, in reply he said go to counter and walked off. What is it with these people? Do they know how to treat customers? You don't just bark something at them while in mid sentence turn your back to them and walk away! I got up and brought the $70+ to spend some where else were they appreciate and respect their customers!
Willtravelforfood17
Service was friendly and we were seated very quickly. The menu is extensive. The Hong Kong yuan yang was perfectly balanced and very aromatic. I love that it is open until late and is a nice place to hang out and chit chat and play games if you want to. We werenā€™t hurried out at all and spent a long time talking. The iced dessert I ordered was huge for $10 and was delicious and full of ingredients.

Monga<br/><br/>LOVED:<br/>šŸ”øThe decor takes you back to 90s Hong Kong<br/>šŸ”øHong Kong style desserts, lots of mango based ones<br/>šŸ”øThat it opens late, great for when you have no where else to go<br/>šŸ”øYou can play board games there or bring your own<br/>šŸ”øQuite spacious, they usually won't kick you out<br/><br/>TIPS/FEEDBACK<br/>šŸ”¹If you're only having dessert, I would suggest you bring cash<br/>šŸ”¹The food quality has really dropped over the years, nothing really stands out in taste or flavour

Monga Dessert Lounge has been in Box Hill since 2010, I am really surprised as to how they have last so long given the poor quality of service and food.Ā  This place is listed as a 'dessert parlour' however it is also a HK-style Cha chaarn Teng with full range of food available.Ā <br/>I havn't been here for a good 6 years, so could not even remember what I had. However my friends wanted to go there to have dessert so I just followed suit.<br/><br/>šŸ”†LOCATIONšŸ”†<br/><br/>Monga Dessert Lounge is situated on Station Street, upstairs of Petaling Street restaurant. Enter from side entrance and take the flight of stairs up to next level.<br/><br/>At the entry you will see an old HK style rickshaw, and aligned against the wall old HK style metal letter boxes. It makes you feel like you've stepped back in time could even be a museum!Ā <br/><br/>The menu colours: red, white and blue is reflected on the traditional nylon canvas striped bags used to be used for storage, carrying items and alot of times when your in HK you still see it. Even Balenciaga made some designer bags out of this print.<br/><br/>šŸ”†SERVICEšŸ”†<br/><br/>Absolutely poor service! The worst ever.Ā  My friends and I ordered two desserts to share and I politely asked a young male wait staff to give us 3 bowls and 3 spoons.Ā  We waited for a while but he disappeared into the back kitchen talking to kitchen staff, came back out and was just wandering around doing nothing.Ā  I was like seriously? So I walked up to him and asked for the 3 bowls and spoons, he didnt make eye contact. An older lady, came over and handed them to me however didn't apologise nor did that guy bother to say anything.Ā  He just casually walked away to the other side of the restaurant to take customer order. Absolutely appalling.Ā <br/><br/>šŸ”†MENU/PRICEšŸ”†<br/><br/>I actually can't remember what we paid for the dessert, as my friends and I really didn't even bother to take note.<br/><br/>šŸ”†VERDICTšŸ”†<br/><br/>I only bothered to take one photo of the dessert I ordered.Ā  Mango flavoured shaved ice with seasonal fruit. The fruits, especially the strawberry (only 1 piece) and honeydew melon were not fresh. The rockmelon was quite hard and the watermelon was super watery and tasted like it was way past its freshness quality.Ā  The mango was from the can.Ā <br/><br/>I would not recommend for anyone to visit Monga for dessert.

We waited 40 mins for our order and we asked the staff to check for our order as we saw that the table next to us who had arrived later than us received their order for the same item first. <br/><br/>The staff had the audacity to lie and said that the kitchen was still preparing the order. <br/><br/>Desserts are good though <br/>
Melbxcuisine
The Imitation Shark Fin Soup I ordered yesterday night was nothing like it should be. I have tried the soup from many other places. The staff suggested that the reason i dislike it, is because i have never tried one before. Iā€™m disappointed with the quality and service of Monga.

Pineapple buns. Deep fried cream. Rice noodle. HK milk tea. Traditional HK street snack can not go wrong !!! Their desserts are great as well. Go there twice a month. Open till late. Couldn't resist.
Mark Russell
The name is misleading, this is more than a desert lounge. It does a full range of Hong Kong style cafe meals at exceptionally good prices. The fare is simple, and if you are from Hong Kong, very familiar. There are some excellent ā€˜meal dealsā€™ on the menu that allows you to pay as little as $15 a head. My rating is based on what they do, rather than a comparison with western restaurants.
Lina's Music House
I like the 1970s Hong Kong theme at this dessert place.<br/><br/>This dessert lounge is more of a late night hangout when most things in the area are closed.<br/><br/>The Mango Sago dessert is mediocre. There is a generous number of mango pieces though.<br/>

Itā€™s a good place to meet up with friends or hang out, but having eaten many Asian desserts and food most of my life, the quality served here is not at its best.<br/>I felt like service was alright, some staff seemed tired (maybe due to the late hours) and some were just casually talking with one another. <br/>Overall, I would not recommend coming if you are looking to experience better quality of Asian desserts or food...
Sunny Days Melbourne
The only thing going for this dessert place in Box Hill is its opening hours. You can come here to fulfil your craving for sugar after midnight. But be prepared for a potentially nightmarish ride....<br/><br/>Service is consistently non existent. You almost need to use a whistle to attract the attention of their "not interested" wait staff. <br/><br/>We had a waffle with condensed milk and from the photo, you can tell that it was made with no care or love. The watermelon juice with grass jelly was marginally better....but not by much. <br/><br/>Monga used to be a nice dessert lounge but one wonders if complacency has set in. <br/><br/>
Jade
Ordered this black rice & coconut milk iced crush..no black rice, blend coconut milk taste and hardly any ice.. disappointed. Cheap food but overcharged. Monga used to be the 'to go' dessert house but the quality crashed to its bottom. Only come here as it's the only open till late dessert place but never been satisfied once in these few years.
Jay
I have been here a few times, but only for dessert. The dessert ranges from good to mediocre, depending on what you order, but nonetheless fitting for a cheaper late night dessert.<br/>In terms of service I found some of the staff to be incredibly rude and quite off putting. That being said, there are some that are very nice.<br/>If you can get over that aspect it's a nice place to hang out with your friends at night.
Michael Mickey Cheong
This WAS once upon a time a very authentic and nice Chinese style dessert place. Now it's a lame overpriced $2 dessert shop. I ordered the almond with paw paw soup. The soup first came out like a plain bowl of hot water with a few almond and almond powder mixed in. I asked them where was the paw paw. They took back and a few minutes later came back out with the same thing and a few slice of RAW paw paw that was not even stewed before. It was cold and bland. Most expensive bowl of hot water.

love for late night food, large v informal space, couches and balcony for smokers too. got this mango dessert and it was super yum except the mango was half frozen but we g, would go again
šŸWapmaptšŸ
The deserts here are great. Authentic very tasty and good value. The mains however are not good. Very stodgy bland food and no vegetables whatsoever. Can not even order vegetables none on the menu.
LoveEatLoveCook
Tried their lunch set, it is very cheap compared to all the rest in the area. But quality wise, soup is bland tasteless, the rice is hard and you can taste it is cheap quality and not well cooked. I wonā€™t go back for sure.
Lai2 Lau
To be honest lack of customer service, food with soup base are okay but foods with no soup base then be perpare it maybe cold like the spaghetti dishes. If you want to get the lunch set, go for something with soup at least it comes out hot, the drinks if u want cold tell them less ice otherwise its not much to drink and the last thing is don't bother with the desserts soup at least what I got was just 3pcs of sweet potatos and sugar water. If they don't want to give a decent porpotion why put it in the set menu. I really felt like a beggar that they just gave me some left overs but don't foget I had to paid for the meal. I really don't want to put people's business down but I really don't want someone to experience the same thing like I did. I really like hong kong foods but this place it just no where near the taste at least for me. I understand people do business needs to cut cost but not the taste or the porpotion, I'm sure if a place with good foods people won't mind paying a bit at least its worth it.
Vivian
The food here is good if your looking for a late night snack. I like to always come here for the hong kong style milk tea ! The service is very bad but standard for this type of restaurant. Food here is veryĀ  cheap ( get the bundle meals ) , I like to order the asian style rice pasta , the tom yum noodles orĀ  the two minute noodles with spam and egg

Restaurant in Box Hill. Went there for desserts only<br/><br/>Had:<br/>Fried milk<br/>Pineapple bun with butter<br/>Vietnamese tea<br/><br/>Good place to go for late night desserts

2.5 It was definitely too adventurous to try a main at Monga Dessert Lounge. Given its name, their desserts were no doubt generally well executed and tasty.<br/><br/>The selling point though was definitely the decor, vibe and layout of the place, which instantly transforms you into a traditional cafe in Hong Kong.
Vanessa
Honestly, I just come here whenever Iā€™m having a super late dinner or want some late-night dessert. This place opens until 3am every day so Iā€™m not going to complain about the lack of service or the unwelcoming staff. Thereā€™s this one older lady whoā€™s been working here for years, sheā€™s super nice even though the restaurant often gets very busy. Most of the time youā€™ll have to wave at a staff member to get their attention. Just go sit at a table and get your own menu if you see that they havenā€™t attended to you. The pro to this place is that the food is quite cheap. And some dishes are actually yummy. So little service and unfriendly staff aside (only sometimes), I still come here for the food.
Leigh
Well not sure why this place deserves a 2.2? Personally enjoy my experience here. We had quite a lot of snacks and like street food desserts. Everything was good. Cheap tho.
Michael Tran
Service is friendly but layout looks 3rd world. Store bought cake was served with green tea creme blurlee. Poor and cheap layout not worth it. Save your cash for a better place.
Willtravelforfood17
Service was friendly and we were seated very quickly despite it being full house. The menu is extensive. The Hong Kong yuan yang was perfectly balanced. The toilets were really dirty though. Love that it is open until late and is a nice place to hang out and chit chat and play games if you want to.
PW Lou
Nothing special about this place. The service is pretty basic. I tried the value lunch but as the service was sonewehat chaotic and I was in a rush, I have no idea what the dessert was.<br/><br/>I'll definitely not be coming back. There's more restaurants that are better.<br/>
Streaky Eats
Great place for asian dessert at a very good price. Tons of dessert to choose from and you can even make your own starting with a base then add toppings of your choice. Popping boba adds a nice surprise to your dessert when it pops in your mouth. <br/><br/>French toast is another personal favourite from KL, Malaysia. A nice bonus of having kaya as a filling option for the french toast, which is commonly peanut butter.<br/><br/>Tried the durian pancake wrap. Too much cream, very minimal durian flesh (can't fool someone from Malaysia). I would give this dish alone a 1/5 and suggest management to look into improving it.<br/><br/>Overall it's still a nice go to place for a variety of cold desserts.

Monga Dessert Loumgr was everything I expected it to be. While Box Hill itself was enshrouded by darkness with the exception of building and street lights, up the narrow staircase of Monga rverything was incandescent and cheerful. The service is neither here nor there- friendly but unattached. We ordered the shaved mango ice and the green tea creme brulee with cheesecake. While I ate the shaved ice, all I could do was wish they had had snow ice on the menu instead. The fresh mango and boba was nice enough but man snow ice is so much more pleasant. The green tea creme brulee was okay but the side of the cheesecake and strawberry sauce was confusing and weird. The cheesecake itself was clearly frozen as well, and nearly required a knife to cut through. Next time we'll stick to the traditional desserts I think.

Manga Dessert Lounge was busy & loud. Staff were friendly & helpful. We ordered: <br/>1. Durian fritters with deluxe durian ice cream: Fritters were very tasty but the ice cream was disappointing. The ice cream tasted cheap not deluxe. <br/>2. Mango filling with homemade coconut rolls: Looked like rice rolls from yum cha. Tasted unusual but the rolls were refreshing. Felt like I consumed a lot of preservatives from this one dish.

Was expecting so much more from this restaurant as it was extremely busy and it had a decent rating. Waited 15 minutes or longer for a very simple dessert that I ordered only to be told that they were still cooking it... after the other people who came after us all received their meals. When I received it, it had looked like they placed a bit of shaved ice and dumped some herbal jelly and a couple of taro balls into it. It lacked flavour, yet they were very stingy on the toppings. Waste of my time and money, would have just been better off getting dessert elsewhere.
Meg
The dessert here is a bit too sweet for me. I would only recommend the black sesame soup and the milk tea as it tastes quite like the ones in Hong Kong.

Called the waitress and wanna order 2 portions of their durian fritters with durian ice cream to take away, told her that i want it to be put in different container so the ice cream wont melt and i want 1 extra scoop of the durian ice cream, she didnt understand. I was whattt? Called another waitress that seem more senior, and told her the same, while waiting for the take away ordered this mango with aloe vera jelly, taste good. The fritters came in different container with the ice cream but only 1 portion. Asked the senior waitress and she only said 2? Not 1? I was shocked.. these people, they are not mainland chinese, they are malaysian, im wondering how come they cant even speak simple english when their country speak english and they are working in hospitality industry some more as a waitress...??? <br/>After the long wait, the other portion came out and we quicky pay and go. <br/>Too bad as the place was very homey but with this kind of service, we wont be back (also both of the waitress didnt smile the whole time)<br/>Cant even bother to take pic of the durian dessert.
The Casual Diner
Take his place for what it is, a casual place to hang out with mates, and have a snack or two. Donā€™t come here expecting food to change the world, and youā€™ll get it. <br/><br/>We came here after dinner from another place near by, and just wanted to find a place to hang out. We sat at the lounges and ordered the black sesame sweet soup (this was satisfyingly good), the mango shaved ice (great sharing dish) and the durian fritters with ice cream (tasty and good little snack). <br/><br/>Service was adequate and prompt, and the owner encouraged people to just hang out, play some card or board games and chill. So, if you are looking for a place to just sit and chat for a bit, consider this place. <br/>

Nice place for gathering. Very traditional Hong Kong taste. I felt less homesick every time I been there. Fully satisfied my tummy and emotion. Love it
Michael Chang
Very slow service. Had to order the spring rolls 3 times. The others in my group ordered the steak and were happy with it. Although i suspect that they were just happy that it came with extras like soup and dessert. It didnā€™t look terribly appetizing to me. The steak looked pretty overdone. I ordered the pork spare ribs on rice which was a tasteless, starchy mess. Attempted to order a drink in the middle of the meal without success. The staff avoid eye contact with customers at all costs. It wasnā€™t busy. Wonā€™t be going back.
Cokele
Ordered mango with coconut noodle. Mango was so sour and coconut noodle was not made from fresh coconut. Ice was too coarse. It is expensive at $9. Not going to come here again. Too exp and poor quality.

DO: The condensed milk and bread. <br/><br/>DON'T: Stop there, try anything else that takes your fancy - the menu is huge and has a rather diverse range of items to choose from. A little slice of HK in Box Hill. <br/><br/>TIP: Great place for dessert afterwards if you're in Box Hill. Plenty of games to play - just leave a small cash deposit.
Jefferson Chen
The food is great, however the service is horrible, we got a gentleman that throws down our order and doesn't even tell us what dessert it was, it was very unprofessional.
Kitty Chau
Nice place for gathering with your fds with Hong Kong style drinks and traditional entertainment but the food and drinks were fair with nothing surprise at all. Interesting dessert of deep fried milk, not that milky as i expected but quite sweet. A bit over sweet of the condensed milk with the milk tea, but a nice try if you wanna have an experience like HK.
Elonie
Really great value lunch set that includes soup, a drink, a meal and dessert for only $8.80 on weekdays. The milk tea is strong Hong Kong style. If you're not from Hong Kong then you may not appreciate this style of food and decor. If you are, then this place will bring back childhood memories.

Stopped in after a dinner in Box Hill, all in the hope of getting a Black sesame waffle.... unfortunately theybwere out so I had to settle for the Green Tea Creme Brulee and Cheese cake.<br/><br/>The Creme Brulee was unique to say the least and the Cheesecake was a frozen store bought if ive ever seen one..... It was still frozen on my plate.<br/><br/>Also got the Iced Coffee with Red bean, Grass Jelly and Ice cream, this was the saving grace , it was exatlybthe kind of flavour I was looking for.
Choc Pudding
Nice big space although look rather rundown. Staff are friendly. It feels like the choice of desserts are rather limited, and when we ordered some stuff they said they ran out of some ingredients. We ordered this customised ice, and i liked the sesame ice cream, taste was okay but they gave a lot of grassjelly and like 5 pieces of really tough palm seeds. They could do so much better.<br/>Went again few times and had red bean pancake which was nice, also deep fried cream was nice. Had their thick toast with condensed milk and butter but was disappointed as they were very stingy with the condensed milk.
Jin Jau Liau
Monga has a classic Hong Kong cafe decor. Most of the desserts are really sweet. It's a nice place to meet friends, hang out and play aeroplane chess in the afternoon when the cafe is less busy.
Theodora
Been to this restaurant twice and both visits were disappointing! I ordered the glutinous black bean with red bean and coconut soup. The coconut soup was so watered down and flavourless. Not worth $6. Took two slurps and was done. My friend ordered pudding with fruits on the side and even then it was a let down. Literally one cut of each fruit. One tiny slice of strawberry, rockmelon and winter melon as the fruit side... the pudding had hair in it. Definitely won't be going back.
Amanda Sook Leng Yoram
Ordered a bowl of black sesame glutinous rice ball and the portion was smaller than expected at the price of $6.50. It literally just looked like three frozen glutinous rice ball being heated up and soaked in ginger flavoured broth which barely even covered over the surface of the three pathetic glutinous balls. We tried asking for extra broth but we couldn't even get a little bit more without having to pay a dollar extraa. The food quality tasted bad overall and I'm deeply disappointed with the customer service. Horrible experience and I def do not recommend coming here to get a dessert craving fixed.
World Eats Food
I love coming here for late night dessert because they're always open past midnight! The staff don't speak English that well so just point to the menu.. I usually go for anything with mango in it! Mango brings me happiness!
Inostram
A great place to come and have dessert, play games and chat amongst friends... good service, food is ok. Price is good... and there is no push to leave, so relax and chat... gets a bit loud when full, but everyone there is having fun... enjoy
I S2 Food
Not a big fan of their drinks/ desserts. Busy little place opened until late. That's probably why we still come here. Only thing we like about it is you can play board games here and not look like a geek lol
Sylvia's POV
Monga offers cheap and satisfying Hong Kong style meals in a spacious & comfortable environment. Very reasonable prices for an entire set meal (main dish, soup, drink and dessert). Service is prompt. The only downside is having to walk up and down the high staircase to get to this heavenly food outlet. Worth the walk. Must try it out.
Dannyyhwu1987
Very rude staff. <br/>My friends and i went there because it opens till late, but the staff were very rude, one of my friend didn't get his order at all until we walked out, the staff just try to avoid to serve. (Maybe he can't speak english) <br/>The food was just ok, but service was total rubbish, the staff was terrible. <br/>Won't go back again.
The Girl With Blue Hair
Nice dessert lounge in Box Hill with a good variety of traditional savouries and desserts. This is also a must-try for durian lovers. Overall, the desserts are average. Service could be good or bad depending on who's working.
Luke And Hannah
Decent street food / desserts with a chance of terrible dishes. Pro tip: Order the durian pancake.<br/><br/>This late night Hong Kong dessert place deserve some kudos to its authentic decor, which really remind us of the time we spent in Asia.<br/><br/>Dishes here could be quite a hit and miss which some of the dishes being delicious while other could leave you a horrible experience.<br/><br/>Our favorite here is always the durian pancakes. The wrapping outside is always lightly fragrant and soft while the durian-cream filling inside is absolute yum! We actually noticed some improvement in the taste and texture compared to last year - which is great!<br/><br/>The other sweet-soup dishes are also decent - not as good as at Dessert Story but there's also nothing much to complain about. <br/><br/>We once had a very bad serve of green tea creme brulee and all we could say is that was probably one of the worst dishes we have ever tasted. It was a complete failure of both texture, taste, and appearance.<br/><br/>Other than that, everything is okay - note that they don't do cards though - which is a bit annoying.<br/>
Melbourne Culinary
Monga Dessert Lounge is very well known as a late night hang out spot in Box Hill. They are open until 3am every day and serve Hong Kong cuisine for every meal of the day, including dessert and supper. They even offer different board games and playing cards on their menu, which has definitely contributed to their popularity as a late night hang out spot.
Shaun Lim
Food was eh and service was horrible... waitress that couldn't speak English saw me raise my hand to order food and just completely ignored me. Didn't even ask another waiter/ waitress to attend to us (she wasn't even busy).
Foodachu
Monga this place reminds me of asia, why? It opens till very late, it is loud, you can eat dessert and play tabletop games such as chinese chess, card games etc.. Green tea drink is good. Green tea icecream with red bean and waffles, green tea icecrem is good, i dont think you can go wrong with that, my red bean was over cooked so their wasn't any flavour left in it, ( I suggest puting it in syrup for a bit more flavour). The waffle was a bit soft it wasnt even crunchy (guessing they have a bad day with the mixture) then condensed milk was dizzle on top. Overall the waffle was disappointing. We came here at 9.30pm and it was extremely pack. May need to come back and give it another go when it isn't pack. Service here is below okay, very asian so don't expect too much, i was lucky the person got my order right as we spoke in english and they looked confused the whole time. Children friendly but not baby/pram friendly as the shop is upstairs.
K M
what a joke of a restaurant , every time you order something they've ran out..............its like they have to get their stock from over seas.....ran out bread, ran out waffle, rant out everything..........its like the iPhone 7......no headphone jack!!!! pick up your game and maybe ill come back!!
AaronN
Food isnt great here. The only reason youd come is if you were after a place that was open lateļ¼Œ otherwise please avoid. We had the waffle and fried milkļ¼Œ nothing special
Brendan Lee
Bring your friends here if you want to make them taste the worst dessert in Melbourne. I've never had a worse waffle, red beans or green tea icecream. One person having a pasta was crying as he ate the pain and misery in the bowl. Way below average for all dessers ordered on the table. Send the people who you hate here for a taste of mental scars served cold.
Klara
They have a vast range of Asian desserts. <br/>Me and my friend are addicted to their thick toast with butter and condensed milk. <br/>A great place to chat with friends at late night. But I always fall into sugar overdose here (I can't stop but keep on ordering). <br/><br/>Ps. Do not recommend their main dishes.
Ling Yap
After dinner, we adjourned for supper which is Chinese desserts. I ordered the red bean soup w/red bean glutinous balls while my friend Katrine had the black sesame soup with huai shan. Each bowl is around $8.00 and it's hot and yummy. Not to forget we had the mini pineapple bun with butter (2) costs $5.50 which was great. Service was a bit slow because of a new worker who didn't understand the menu well but soon an elderly woman was very polite and entertaining. She even asked me to sit longer to chat since the restaurant had ample space to linger around. Menu has many other savoury dishes that is attractive for me to come back again.
Hello. Imnikki
Despite the presence of the word "dessert" in its name, the desserts here are not its strong suit. In fact, I personally wouldn't recommend the dessert here under any circumstances. I would rather have my cravings unsatisfied then to be disappointed. But what you can come here for is the savoury dishes. The Hong Kong cafe style dishes such as noodle soups or rice dishes are quite passable in taste. Won't be my first choice for a meal but if I'm in the vicinity and was after a place where I can grab a bite and overstay my welcome to have a long chat with my mates, this would be an option.
Ta.be.tabi
A shabby looking place with gruff unprofessional service, thatā€™s no surprise in many typical Asian restaurants because the only thing that matters is the food, not the formality. I point these aspects out not in the negative sense, but that itā€™s normal and accepted, and is not something to take personally for the infrequent visitor.
Yolanda
Service sucks!!! Waited half an hour for a simple dessert of four glutinous balls in ginger soup. When I asked the guy to chase it up he replied in mandarin and I asked him in ENGLISH as I do not speak mandarin. He then continued to take the order from the table behind us in English, so he clearly knew how to speak the language. <br/>Would not recommend this place
Denise Tran
Nothing too special about the menu except that they do have a range of both sweet and savoury items, its an inexpensive asian dessert lounge that needs a facelift for both interior and staff :/<br/>The service was lacking. Noone gave us menus, orders was mistaken, I ordered 2 of the same item but they served it in the one dish and didnt think to mention it, so someone missed out. Staff brought us dishes we didnt even order, handed meals to the wrong customers. Considering it is a Chinese establishment, they want to give quick service, quick food so the staff do sort of rush you in and out with the order and dining.<br/><br/>The food was honesly terrible. Everything was either bland or disgusting, presentation was crap. Spaghetti tasted like it came from a can, mystery meat that you cant tell what it is by looking or eating it.<br/>Dont waste your time or money.
"JT" Jeffrie Trika
Who doesn't love Hong Kong and their desserts .....<br/><br/>This establishment typifies that Hong Kong-ness, games on table, messy, filled with everything you can think of (check out the Menu and storage area), a mixture of East & West, just less noise and crowds and most importantly nice desserts.<br/><br/>Always happy to re-visit this place.
M
Been here quite a few times now, it's always been a hit and miss, never consistent. The decor is very old school which some may say is dirty but it's quite accurate. The service is as terrible as always, workers lack enthusiasm and aren't very helpful or knowledgeable.<br/><br/>Today I had the Baked Fried Rice w/ Pork chop & Curry Sauce. It was ok, no real complaints other then the fact it was warm not hot. Also had a entrĆØe and a dessert which were both mediocre.<br/><br/>The menu is misleading my meal was advertised with fried rice not white rice not to mention that I didn't receive my complimentary Borscht or Creamy Corn soup. An to add insult to injury instead of paying an extra $1.50 for my milk tea with my meal I was charged full price.

So freaking terrible , the worst meal ever ... <br/>1st of all , the stuff is so freaking rude and bad attitude , (well u know how bad can service be ) fine fine , <br/>Let's talk about their food , we ordered few food ... Which is the D03 beancurd sheet sweet soup thing ... Taste totally like plain water with a little bit of sugar and simply put in the ingredient , that's too many bad comment to be say ... will never come back again ...

Revising my review, as we ate a meal here today, which was a vast improvement on desserts of past.Ā  Again, the dessert we received was terribly lacking, but the entree and main was quite tasty.Ā  I love how HK calls a tomato veg soup borscht.Ā  I was caught out the first few times in HK.Ā  I had the pork in tomato sauce on spaghetti and my MIL had the fish in black bean sauce.Ā  On a really positive note the black bean sauce wasn't the sickly thick salty version of food courts.Ā  It was quite light.Ā  My tomato sauce was typically HK sweet and salty (but not overly so).Ā  That topped off with a lemon tea was really nice.Ā  The dessert of crumbled tofu sheets in sweet soup was quite watery and nothing memorable (like having a cup of hot water with 1/2 spoon sugar).

Service was sooo fast! Waffle was cake-like and hard not soft on the inside. Other food was average. Food could use a little more flavour. Fried milk and durian pancake was pretty good.

I ordered an pineapple bun with Hong Kong style milk tea, the tea is very nice, but the pineapple taste like it's been baked for several days, really hard to chew and the attitude of the whole shop waitresses are not good at all!!! Is this shop famous by their bad attitude!?

Nice retro feel to the place. Serves a good selection of contemporary Hong Kong style desserts. I had the HK Polo bun, washed down with a HK hot milk tea. Also tasted the mango pomelo sago which was very satisfying. Contrary to what is stated, they do not accept credit cards.

Traditional Hong Kong desert house with retro interior feel. Was going to dessert story but it closed so came here on a hot summer night.

Well, there seems to be a string of disappointments lately when it comes to eating out and unfortunately this is another one.<br/><br/>We were searching for a late night dinner place and decided to pop into Monga since they are open so late and they have an extensive menu. They specialise in a variety of Asian desserts but also have a wide range of hot food as well.<br/><br/>On this particular night when we dropped by, they had a poster up of a Wagyu sizzling plate set which comes with your choice of pepper sauce or what they called 'brown sauce'. Along with that you get complimentary soup, fries, vegetables, dessert and a drink for around $22.50. We were sold. However as soon as we sat down everything went downhill.<br/><br/>The staff there don't speak English very well and so they kept trying to talk to us in Mandarin, then Cantonese, then English, then they switched back to Mandarin - even though we spoke to them in English the whole time, so it took a while before they understood what we wanted. For the complimentary drink, I asked if I could have the iced milk tea and pointed to it on the menu. The lady said that it would cost more if I ordered that as it was not part of the set menu. Okay then, that was fine. So I asked her what drinks were available with the set menu and she responded with 'iced lemon tea or iced milk tea'. Was thoroughly confused because I did ask for the iced milk tea but just repeated myself and this time she nodded in approval and wrote it down.<br/><br/>When the food came out it definitely did not get any better. Whatever meat cut we were eating, it definitely did not feel or taste like a wagyu - the meat was so tough, you could get softer meat out of a cheap rump steak. It was also over cooked, beyond well done (of course they didn't ask us how we wanted our steaks cooked) but hey, I guess I wasn't sure what to expect for the price they were charging, maybe slightly better than supermarket steak? The 'brown sauce' turned out to be some sweet and sour sauce which did not go well with steak at all.<br/><br/>The complimentary sweet corn soup I got was not any better. When it came out it looked like just a bowl of milk, it was obviously made from a packet, and had no corn in it from what I could see. Davin's Borscht soup was actually probably the only edible dish there - even thought it was probably also made from a packet. It was actually flavoured and had some remnants of vegetables in there so I sipped on half of his soup hungrily.<br/><br/>It didn't look like dessert was coming anytime soon and when we asked the lady she kind of flapped her hands and said 'yes yes, later'. I think that was the last straw for us so we just got up, paid and left. We weren't in the mood to be eating a bad dessert as well. I think when we were paying she asked if everything was fine and if all our dishes came out. We just mumbled yes because we wanted to get out of there. Horrible experience and would not recommend to anyone if they are after some dinner.

This place has a very long opening hours and really suitable for a group of friends to come. The menu is just too Hugh! From snacks, mains to desserts. All the dishes are actually famous traditional cantonese dishes. <br/>To be honest the service and food quality are just at acceptable point but because it's a fun place to go with friends (you can play chess while waiting for your food šŸ˜‚) I'll give 3.5 overall. Just for group chats and eat.

Loved their fruit On ice! It was so refreshing on a hot day! The only bad thing was that their AC was not on so it was hot inside and the other thing was that the mango in the dessert didn't taste fresh. But I would definitely return to try other desserts in the menu!
Tony
Only really had desserts here. All portions were generous and reasonably price. As expected at any Asian style dessert place. Average all around. Decor is nice with a hk feel. Will try hot food there the next chance.

After a late night at work we decided to head out to Box Hill, knowing something would be open after 11 on a week night. There were a few choices but being amused by the slightly french looking menu but clearly asian cuisine, we headed up the stairs. The place was pretty full, the decor pretty average and not the cleanest. The menus had a bunch of thing crossed out or re priced with pen. The staff were hard to get hold of but once you did they were reasonably helpful. The food is confusing ive never seen so many strange combinations of things that shouldnt go together. I ordered a simple chicken dish, it was effectivly a maryland leg on a pile of rice with watery soy sauce, i got an interesting iced coffee in a stein. The food is not great its basic, but if its late and you have nothing else to eat...then consider fasting. Bring cash too, when we got up to pay we were told cash only! Come on people put some signs up that are clear before people venture in to eat your week old food then supply cash to your tax free haven.
Chilli And Butter
This is only dessert store open late in Boxhill. Offering reasonable food, consider not many choice late night supper. Pineapple bun with butter is my favorite here, if you don't wanna get upset with your food, this is a safe option. My friends ordered chicken wing with house special soy sauce, well it is so special that it is only soy sauce and water, food here is so bland. I kind expect the food quality is low. This place is run by a bunch of kids, what you expect? So I ordered noodle with fish balls, fried egg, and can spam, simple enough, that I am sure anyone can make it, so it turns out as expect- eatable, so I am happy, I would be happier if that could cook this noodle with house made stock! Dessert here though are pretty good. <br/>Well, floor staff here are very upset, why? Really don't know, I end up ask them why you guys are so upset? Turn out they gave me same unhappy face. <br/>Feel bad for these people- never smile! It must be difficult.

Just avoid.. Terrible experience and service, friends waited 40 minutes for a black sesame waffle. Waiter was rude after following up twice and stated there was only one grille/pan open, and stated other tables had ordered the same item however we had sat down first.<br/>Food was diasappointing and not up to par, furthermore scene of kitchen is off putting and appears unsanitary.<br/>Over staffed with little service, doesnt make sense.<br/>All in all, disappointed.

Monga is a place I've been to a million times, it's serves up some great renditions of traditional Hong Kong dessert, which is a lot harder to come by than the ever expanding Taiwanese dessert market in Melbourne. The set up is just like Hong Kong, complete with the mahjong table in the corner.
Blogmrandms
We wouldn't say Monga offers very good Tong Sui but it's so much better than Dessert Story, at least their hot desserts are REALLY hot, sadly the hot desserts that we had in Dessert Story was not even hot at all, they should categorised it as warm dessert instead. The Water Chestnut Sweet Soup with Osmanthus was good and not overly sweetened. As for the Black Sesame Sweet Soup, the taste and sweetness was okay but it could have been better if it's slightly thicken. We will be back for more of their desserts some late night, our late night supper series is up and let's keep it going!

All in all, I don't think we will go back to Monga for its savoury menu, but I can say quite surely that we will be returning to try some other dessert options.

Food wasn't that good. Went there a couple of times. Their dessert and dinner is getting worst everytime we come back. Cheap - you pay what you get for.

The service was poor. My girlfriend and I were made to feel invisible. The cheesecake was frozen, but the presentation was good. Nonetheless, there is no excuse for poor service.
Annastasia.r.haigh
No ta.. More staff than customers, with opportunity for customers to serve themselves when staff ignore all attempts to request service including yelling, hand raising and tribal mating dances. Deep fried milk doesn't actually contain milk but IS a strange white solid #edible. Can also purchase your own entertainment in the form of strange board games/plastic sheets. 0/10 only good if cannot get food ANYWHERE else, including a local dumpster.
Tanji Lamba
Worst customer service EVER! Was ignored, even when literally yelling at staff across the room. Also serving deep fried milk...
Liz.fagan
Solitude. If you want to be left alone this is the place to be!<br/><br/>We were not interrupted pre dessert, during dessert or afterwards. It was blissful, though hungry.
EatToLive
Realy bad service. It looks like no one wants to work here. My advice is this, avoid at all cost if you don't want to get upset with them immature kids.
Foodeater
Bad experience. I had mango puff pastry and green tea ice cream the other day and it was horrible. The pastry was burned and very crunchy, really not worth the price. The decoration is horrible and messy. Won't come back there again.

NEVER COMING BACK EVER!. Worst customer service place!!! The waitress just throws our meal on the table with a pissed off face. We were literally shocked. My partner's meal was not hot so I kindly asked one of the waitress to put it in the microwave for us. I mean I didn't want to be replaced. I just want to be heated up. The waitress still tries to argue that the plate is hot but after I insisted, reluctantly heated up. The meal I had was totally different to what I originally ordered. I tried to reason with the waitress but she argues that's what I ordered. She then walks off angrily without saying anything further. I am spreading the words to everyone I know not to go to this place because its not worth getting humiliated by employees that have absolutely no manners and secondly do not know what customer service is.
Hungry Tenguin
I have been here a countless number of times over the past few years, opening late mainly contributing that factor. The food is above average; Hong Kong style western food which at times I do really enjoy. However, the customer service is absolutely horrid. The restaurant is staffed with rude waiters and waitresses with little english speaking ability, making customer service decline to an even lower level. The staff are unwelcoming and lack manners, which can really ruin your dining experience. They have only recently started serving free tap water, as in previous years I have had to buy a $7 bottle of water or forgo drinking water entirely. Despite this, Dessert Lounge does offer a really "chilled" ambiance, where you could grab a reasonably priced supper with decent portions.
Kitty
Disappointing. Terrible service and all the staff have attitude problems. They also avoid eye contact with you. We had to wait 15 minutes to be served, so my friend tried asking the waitress to come over cause we were ready to order but she look pissed off for doing so. Their savoury food is bland and dessert was overly sweet which put me off. Never again.
JTS
Ordered a chicken, mushroom and Chinese sausage double boiled rice dish, chicken came out half raw. Fried durian with durian ice cream was nice tho. This place is ok for desserts but not the savoury dishes. Wouldn't recommend for dinner.
Lorli
Their special $8.80 with soup, main dessert & drink is decent and great value. Comes here for lunch usually. I do agree savory food is better than sweets here not as the name suggests!
Michelle
So, so awful. A side of strawberries came as two tiny slivers that didn't even amount to a third of one. Food was abysmal and waiters could barely speak English. Tables were sticky. Big mistake coming here.
Lachlan B
Bizarre. Such a bizarre place. Worth it just for the experience! I'll never go back, the food was really average, the decor horrible and the staff were very confused... but boy it's such a funny place.
Linh Pham
Poor service. Been here twice in the past two years and walked out both times without ordering anything. Both times we were ignored for ages by staff while they chat amongst themselves, even when they did notice us looking at them they'd quickly avert eye contact and continue their chat. Don't ever go to Box Hill Monga, they don't give a rat's about their customers.
