This is a little gem of a place tucked away in Bright. It was an intimate dining setting with lots of tables in a small dining area but you didn't feel crowded.
We order Thai Fish Cakes, which were a touch on the small side but what the lacked in size they made up with flavour. The chilli beef salad, while simple fare was bang on and definately a bit. My favorite was the Musamun Curry. The gravy was rich and flavoursome. The portion sizes are spot on, which discovered after a back and forward with my partner (I won this agruement). There wasn't a scrap of food left on our table!
The service was quick, set at your table, water and menus quick snap, order taken and away you go. The food came out quickly and didn't taste preprepared. The only downside I have to say is that there was only one waiter for approximately 12 tables. This meant that you waited a long time to get the bill and for dishes to be removed. While this isn't necessarily bad it does distract from an otherwise great night out.
The staff are very friendly and tried to cater to needs to especially children since they can’t have spicy food.
We ordered jasmine rice, chicken pad thai and special house duck curry

The jasmine rice is well, rice.. very standard just how it is.
Chicken pad thai has very little chicken actually. It is quite sweet for my taste. But still quite nice
Duck curry was beautifully made although a bit on he sweet side. They are generous with the meat and vege.
It was quite a good meal.
Loved their signature Roasted Duck Red Curry. Both the glass noodle salad and Thai style Prawn with honey came in big serving. Seafood Tom yum coconut was a disappointment. We ordered large size for $21 and they came back with a small bowl for one! Fish cakes were ok.
A bit busy. Relatively slow service but very polite and friendly.
We got take-way from here on our weekend visit to Bright. Aside from the longer than usual wait, the food was fantastic. Especially the Thai green curry and the red duck curry. A definite visit next time around.
Pretty decent Thai fare. Will go back, but one thing needs to be attended to - the very slow service. Another cook and a few more service staff would help. Otherwise, not too shabby.
Here is a tip to find the hidden gems in an area that ur visiting: search Zomato for the top 3 restaurants in the area and then walk past them. The one with "most" people in it is usually a sure bet.
When we went for dinner there it was a miserable night and it was pretty much the only place with customers in it.
Like most of the restaurants in Bright it doesn't seat many but the food is delicious, the service is friendly and prompt. We could not ask for anything more and will definitely eat here again when we come back to Bright
What a great find. Great food and service even tho they were packed! Real authentic flavours, that you just don't see anymore! We will be back again!
My boyfriend and I had their take-away dinner today since almost every restaurant in Bright was booked out for the autumn festival. The place was really busy so we had to wait for 45 minutes for the food - prawn pad Thai and chicken skewers. I never really liked skewers but I do enjoy their ones, the chicken was really tender and the sauce with the skewers was really nicely seasoned. The Pad Thai was quite standard, we love the big fresh prawns.
Tried the sweet and sour fish and vegie pad thai. The food was good and yummy...service was good and quick..it was quicker than i expected as i read from review that you have to wait a fair bit. Overall very happy.
The food was amazing, the tum yum soup, the duck curry n the cashewnut stir fry were all just very good. In a long time did I get a good tum yum soup.
I would sure stop again here for a heart filled Thai bliss feel

We are not normally Thai fans - but the beef salad and chicken pad Thai won us over. We also had the entree assortment of fish cakes, curry puffs, souring rolls - all fresh and tasted lovely
Would definitely eat here again

Attentive and friendly service. Food arrived in good time, and had genuinely good flavour.

Great Thai Food. If im in Bright I will always eat at Suganyas, the food is great. Love the curry puffs and stir fries. Fresh, tasty, staff are friendly.
From Melbourne - As good as best Thai restuarants here. On holidays and passing through Bright. Local resident recommended Suganya's. Busy when we went, but good service and fantastic food. Better that the Thai restaurants I have been to in Melbourne. Will be back.
The service is still a bit light on here, but the food more than makes up for it. They have now decided to drop the BYO option which is probably best given the exorbitant corkage they were asking. Having said that I'd like to see a more extensive wine list, it's incredibly limited given you're in a great wine region.

Regional Gem.... Had dinner here a while back and absolutely loved it. You could easily put Suganya up against any Thai restaurant in Melbourne and it would in most cases come up trumps. The only aspect that surprised me was the $10 pb corkage charge. I found this to be a little excessive given it's a regional restaurant. That aside, you'd do well to give Suganya every consideration when next in Bright.
Wonderful meal. Great food. We hadn't booked and the restaurant was almost empty (we did eat early evening). Waitress was wonderful, as was the food. Authentic Thai flavours, well presented, in a dining room that was well decorated and cared for made this meal at Suganya's a treat.

Superb. What a delightful gem of a restaurant in Bright. We arrived without a booking on a very busy night recently, and even though it appears the popularity of this restaurant means it's fully booked most nights, the staff went out of their way to rearrange their bookings to find a table for us, now this is service. All the staff were super friendly and efficient, and the restaurant is cosy and has a wonderful atmosphere, from the georgeous thai style plates & cutlery, to the lovely thai artworks on the walls. But most important is the food. Our group of four were all enthralled with the delicious authentic fresh thai flavours, every dish we had was divine, from the amazing home made spring rolls, tasty curries and stir fries, and yummy coconut rice. We all finished off with the mango and coconut ice cream, which is delightful with chunky pieces of real mango and coconut.
If you are in town do yourselves a favour and book a table, my friends and I can't wait to go back to Bright just to visit this restaurant again!
Waited over an hour for take away on a Wednesday night. The wait staff didn't seem to fussed by how long it was taking. So not a great start, but the food was fantastic
Wish the restaurant was closer to our hometown!. We went to Bright for a weekend at the end of May. We stumbled into Suganya's Restaurant one evening and really enjoyed the food there. I had a snapper which was cooked beautifully. Service was excellent as well. Wish they had a restaurant closer to our hometown!
This has to be one of my favourite restaurants in bright!! Lovely service amazing food and at a good price. I go here regularly and recommend suganyas to everyone!!

Great Thai food for regional Victoria, the entree platter was surprisingly delicious, and the duck curry was not bad. Dinner was quite expensive for what it was, even by melbourne standards, but appreciated they managed to fit us in during a busy night and still have fairly friendly service
Quality!. Service was impeccable very attentive, asked several time if everything was ok throughout the meal and it was perfect !
A lot of so called Thai restaurants in Australia could learn a lot from this gem & in a small country town in Victoria's high country who would have though you'd find a Thai this good!

What a great little gem. Fantastic food- Yui the head cook and the team produce beautifully flavored food and have a team of waitresses who are pleasant and attentive. Be warned however I suggest you book if you don't want to be disappointed

One of the best we've had. Just this past weekend, my husband and I decided to take a trip away to Bright, Victoria. Being Melbourne foodies, we only had three things on the agenda: relax, eat, and eat more. On our second day, we meandered through Bright's little streets full of shops, when we asked a local store owner, "Where would you go for dinner tonight?" She responded quite quickly, "Oh, I'd go to Suganya's." Her lack of hesitation on recommending the restaurant made it easy for us to decide to go, so the phone call was placed, and our table booked.
As we pulled into the parking space of the street-fronted eatery, we noticed it was packed. "Thank goodness we booked" I said to my husband. The door was opened and we were greeted by a lovely gentleman who seated us, gave us menus and scurried off to attend the other patrons.
The menu boasted the usual Thai fair, and we made quick work of selecting our food: Fish Cakes to start, pork stirfry, tofu with thai sweet basil, vegetarian fried rice, and some roti with satay sauce.
Our fishcakes arrived, and we immediately knew they would be delicious. Bursting with flavour, the combination of spices made them wonderful on their own, but I must admit - the little sweet chili sauce added a nice touch.
The mixture of vegetables was well complimented by the just-right-amount-of-saltiness of the pork, and the thai sweet basil tofu had more flavour than the dish knew what to do with. My husband even admitted, after taking a bite of the tofu, that it trumped his dish for flavour. The vegetarian fried rice was beautiful - no need for soy, no need to do anything more than just eat it! The roti bread was buttery and great tool to grab all the wonderful goodness on our plates! The only let down was the satay sauce served with the roti, don't get me wrong, it was good - but just not as good as the rest of the dishes!
All in all, I'd say that most Melbourne Thai restaurants couldn't hold a candle to Suganya's in Bright. Upon complimenting our host, he informed us they've been operating for 3 years.
3 YEARS!? And I had never heard of them? Ah-hem. Now, I must take a moment and call the attention of my fellow foodie friends who have frequented Bright in this time...what have you been doing? How have you visited this establishment and not shared this little Thai gem with the rest of your Urbanspoonites? Shame on you. But I have now righted this wrong and all is good in the world now.
If you plan a visit to Bright - then plan a visit to Suganya's. Trust me, once you taste the food, you'll be glad you did.
