Review Botticelli Ristorante & Bar - Brighton

Rachel Kapsalakis
Stopped here for a quick coffee on New Years day. What a perfect place for a romantic dinner. It is quite busy so probable best to book. The coffee was amazing with a complimentary homemade biscuit. The service was outstanding and the prices quite reasonable. Although I didn't eat here I intend on going back to eat as it looked and smelled amazing and the restaurant was so busy you have to assume it is good. Great care was also being taken to ensure covid rules were carried out and tables were being wiped down after every guest!!

Lovely Italian food & decadent coffee, not to forget the gorgeous person Daniella and everyone else who made our visit quite pleasantly unforgettable at this old-world corner on such a rainy day as today!!! Would recommend every time one visits Brighton!

Truly delicious Italian food and wine with authenticity. The linguine puttanesca was beyond delicious and the rucola salad and wine perfect. Shaking head that haven’t frequented sooner/before. Will become a staple (if they’ll have me!)

Excellent food - one of the best Italian food experiences that we can remember. And we have traveled extensively. We had one starter and three mains for three of us - and each dish was almost perfection. Each one was delightful and hugely tasty. Good service - lovely decor and atmosphere. It deserves all its accolades

Tonight, the staff and chefs provided us with one of the best Italian meals I have had. The grilled calamari was so tender and packed with the a complex mix of delicious flavours, that had us all scraping the sauce off our plate. My choice of pasta (and honestly the best Gluten Free pasta I have had) was generously served with prawns and scallops in a delicious sauce with just the right amount of heat. The gelato was incredibly creamy and you could taste the fresh fruit in the strawberry scoop. I only wished I lived in Melbourne as this would easily be my new favourite eatery. Thank you so much and well done on your outstanding food and service.

What began as a lovely evening, quickly turned into such a horrible experience all because of one staff member... The MANAGER!! clearly you are unable to find someone who is fit for this role and that is really really sad because your wait staff are soooo lovely and the food was great!! Unfortunately within five minutes of our main dishes being cleared from the table and us advising we didn't want any dessert this evening your manager Martina brought the bill straight over and rudely advised we needed to go as the next reservation had arrived!! Firstly, our 2 hours were not up. We had only just hit 90 minutes and my drink was only half empty. Secondly the restaurant was not even at 50% capacity, with nobody waiting for a table. This absolutely ruined our night and it's a real shame as her whole attitude and lack of professionalism or tact left such a damper on the entire experience. Your wait staff tried to advise that we could stay a little longer but honestly at this point we couldn't pay and get out of there fast enough. (Funny how all of a sudden the next reservation was no longer waiting for our table) We will never be returning. Please do yourselves a favour and keep Martina at back of house where she won't be ruining your customers night. To anyone thinking of coming here.... Don't!!! There are plenty of other restaurants who value their clientele and don't rush them out the door half an hour before the allocated time slot is up.

I love this place. I've been here several times before, but not in a long while, and it's great to see that they've expanded (taken the store that was next door and made their interior much bigger). Today the service was impeccable, and the food also. I started with the Caprese Salad, and it was SO heavenly. It was beautifully presented and it was possibly one of the very best I've ever had anywhere. The mozzarella was massive and it was sitting in a pesto foam which was sooooo tasty. I had one piece of the garlic bread that others at the table ordered, and man, that was phenomenal. The best garlic bread I've tried ever. Then for the main course I had a Salmone Gnocchi (that was actually originally penne, but they kindly made changes) which was so good. Dessert (which I only ordered so I didn't feel left out as everyone else ordered ... ) was the crepes filled with vanilla ice cream in a mandarin liquor with mandarin segments. If you're wanting a beautiful meal out - be it lunch or dinner - you can't go past Botticelli. It is such a great experience and there's a lot to choose from on the menu and it's all reasonably priced for the quality. I very highly recommend it here.

The food was good and plentiful. The staff were very attentive and friendly and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening

Great food and very friendly staff, a very enjoyable lunch.

The restaurant is a must. The menu is very diverse and the food is fabulous. The ambience is lovely and relaxing and the service is superb.
Karen Buckley
Totally disappointing- arrived at 1200 - our meals arrived over an hour later, and then piecemeal in drips and drabs - salad and veg arrived after we had almost finished our mains, and after we had asked several times. Table service was tardy and replies re meal were offhand to rude. Wait staff served and cleared across the table in front of us- this was not appreciated as it intruded markedly on our conversation. Will think twice before frequenting again - we are locals too

Love the ravioli duck and brochettes and the flounder is fabulous.

Five of us were there for lunch on Christmas day. We had s great time, the tables were beautifully set and included crackers, it was extremely hot and we were outside but it was ok due to a little sea breeze, we were happy to be there as it was very noisy inside The service was efficient and friendly and the food was lovely couldn't fault anything, the restaurant was packed and also the outdoor tables, there was plenty of staff so the lunch service was handled very well and making sure we were well hydrated with lots of water. All in all, a great Christmas lunch shared with great friends, great food, no stress and, bonus, no cleaning up.

Great food with decent servings. Very attentive staff and a good place to have a chat while you eat.

We have been to Bottticelli many times with friends and on our own, we have never have anything to complain about. The flounder are just delicious.

Excellent service; always top quality food. Very good ambience.

Went for lunch and although not busy had to wait quite a while for our oysters to arrive, they were delicious! Then waited again to get attention of staff to clear plates and ordered some calamari to share. Unfortunately was very chewy so we left most of it! Waitress asked if it was amazing and I told her no! It was very chewy but didn't react at all. Disappointed 😔
Gillian Sweeney
Great food reasonably priced and very good service

Wow! What amazing hospitality during covid-19. Botticelli is offering 20% pick up orders at the movement and boy do they deliver. We were greeted with a smiling face and given free cookies (which were delicious). We bought two pasta dishes. The portion sizes are huge and the food is just as good as visiting the restaurant. This has been a family favourite restaurant of ours for a number of years and it has never disappointed. Thank you!

After the seaside activity, I chose your restaurant and wanted to try new flavors. I ordered bread, Fried squid and seafood pasta. The sauce was very delicious, but the mussels were not fresh.i like to cake 🎂.it is delicious👌🏻
The Dear Luncher
The experience at Botticelli was by and large a good one. Service was attentive and thorough. The entrée’s and antipasto offerings were superb. The bread, butter and olive oil/balsamico delightful. It sort of peaked here though, because for the main – the rib-eye steak ordered was prepped well done. Medium was the request, and it was nowhere near it. Still a decent cut of meat and so not an absolute disaster …but still a tad disappointing. Mrs Luncher once again ordered a seafood pasta of some description and seemed satisfied with her choice. Fries were a tad overcooked as well. To begin with this experience was headed for 5 stars, but it dropped off a fair bit. The Dear Luncher is however a generous man (both in mentality and proportion) so it’s a 3.5/5.

I frequent this restaurant fairly often as well as their other restaurant Campanella in elsternwick. I took my wife and a friend for an early dinner late lunch today. The food is always fine , not the cheapest but I don’t mind paying for good food. We ordered the mussels for entree and even though the was some mussels which were closed and not opened which obviously should not have been served the rest of the meal was fine.
I do take exception though when you are asked to leave because obviously the table had been double booked . We were never told when we booked that we had to be out by a certain hour, if we had a time limit we would have gone somewhere else. Not happy at all. May I suggest if. You go to this restaurant check to see how long you have to eat your meal. And as for the restaurant if you want customers to come back maybe check your booking prior to allowing more bookings . It’s not all about getting bums on seats , it’s about a dining experience .
It’s a pity , we used to frequent both your restaurants . We won’t be back

5 of us dined here last night and what s disappointment.

Firstly no BYO nowadays where previously you could BYO - I hate paying extortionist rates for any wine.

We ordered s $120 bottle of Champagne and a warm bottle arrived at table and exploded in a cascade of fizz because warm when opened- at least s glass spilled onto floor - only bottle available in house so we could not get replacement - then when poured and we tasted the lack of chill was we then realised how warm it was.

Other white wines being consumed by other diners were also apparently insufficiently chilled. Many diners actually putting ice cubes in white wine trying to chill them to acceptable drinking temperature

Food however was excellent - very much enjoyed by all on our table.

Service really lacking - we had to ask for water top up - we had to ask for empty Champs bottle and glasses to be removed from table

Come to bill time after I questioned full $120 price of Champs after losing probably a glass when opened and the fact that it was warm the offer is deduct $25 from $120 PP of Champs - so bill still ~$450 for 5 - whatever - Botticelli just lost s customer never to return.

Very pleasant interior with attentive and very very kind staff. The food was all flavoursome with the garlic bread being a key highlight. Cannot give enough praise to the staff for being so welcoming and communicative. Strongly recommend. 4.5/5

Botticelli has been around on Church Street, Brighton since 2001 which says it all really! You enter the restaurant and feel as though you are about to dine in a cosy Italian restaurant. Great atmosphere, food and of course the Italian hospitality. Pasqua, Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie – IT. Capesante Gratinate – Baked Scallops with Mushrooms, Dill, Mustard & Béchamel.

Love this Italian restaurant, just love it. Best tilamisu I had in any places. Highly recommend the pastas and any fish you like. Friendly stuff. Only the tables are covered with papers, a bit inconvenient.

This place is a hidden gem! We went there for dinner last week and love it! I could tell the locals love it too

The staff were really nice ! The restaurant is small and cosy.

We had steak, oysters, salmon and pasta. Everything is absolutely divine !!!

Try it or you will regret 🙌🏻

Came two week ago, was told kitchen closed at 9.30pm, so too late, bad luck with me. Came today at 9.20pm and was told they closed at 9.15pm. Get real, I saw people just got food served, don’t want my business, no problem, others will.

So end up at cafe Florentine get served, a couple of wine and seafood pasta and a dessert, great to finish up after a long day.

Good customer service does get business a long way.

Centainly I don’t get from this one.
Mmm
My absolute favorite place to eat. The food never disappoints. You have to start with the cob bread. The whole flounder with chili sauce on the side is an adventure in culinary pleasures.

We had a table of seven visit for a birthday dinner and overall we had a good experience. The food was pretty good, my main course chicken supreme was excellent but my octopus entree was average as it had way too much chile in it to the point where I couldn't taste the octopus. The rest of our party for the most part enjoyed their meals. Service was mixed, we had one very good waiter and one who had no idea. The only other thing is the cost, at these prices they should be a 5 star restaurant but they are not at that level.

Usually great food and great service - unfortunately times have changed.
Staff didn’t know how to make a simple cocktail (White Russian).
The fish was terribly undercooked and still containing liver.
Pasta was full of oil.
Dessert cheesecake was ‘runny’.
Chef accused us of “not knowing how it’s meant to be because we are not chefs”.
Wait staff were rude and didn’t know anything about what they were serving.
While clearing the table the wait staff dropped food on us - with no apology.
Harapeko Abacus
I ordered seafood marinara pasta and which was amazing. It came with a salad and a glass of wine, and you can swap to coffee, juice and so on. The service was great too.
Roshanak Samadirad
I have to admit that food is good in this place, generous portion, but shocking service for such a high class restaurant, unbelievable, very inexperienced people with absolutely no background in hospitality...
Lightworker Trinh
Wonderful service and exquisite food! What more can you ask for.

The eggplant parmigiana is to die for and the fresh salads are perfect to balance the strong flavours of traditional Italian soul food.

Delivered through Deliveroo.
Bruschetta were oily (bread soggy with oil). Calamari also oily. Steak was very overdone & seemed to have been cooked multiple times, duck dry dry dry (hard to swallow), soup ok once I added some olive oil, seasoning & lemon juice. Chips cold, soggy, and undercooked, salad limp - and soggy!
Really, really disappointed. I absolutely don't expect delivered food to be as good as eating in the restaurant, but this meal was just a let down. :-(

Came here for lunch and wasn't really that impressed.
They charge a premium price for average food.
Service was okay. Hardly any atmosphere.
Overall I would say 'eh'.
Probably wouldn't recommend.
Exploring Food
Haven't been to this Brighton restaurant in the last year. Owners seem to have changed as previously run by an Italian crew and it seems that an Indian crew are now operating this Italian restaurant.
That being said the food has also changed since I was last here and so seem have the prices. I have no issue paying higher prices as I understand rents and food costs are high in Brighton however the food simply wasn't up to a standard expected. The waiter service was indifferent with good at times and intrusive at others. The food was poor with the garlic bread presented completely appalling. The pasta overcooked as was the "fresh" barramundi . There wasn't a dish served that met any basic standard of tasty quality food , it simply was disappointment after disappointment .To top it off the chef came out to ask how the food was which was ironic as all the plates were still 3/4 full. I thought the food on the plate was all the answer he needed. I think I'll wait another 12 months before trying again.

Three of us visited this well known Brighton institution as a last minute decision mid-week after other plans fell through. The idea of a quick bowl of pasta with garlic bread and a glass of vino was all we needed and Botticelli had a $28 midweek special of just that. We were seated at a small table set for four. Whilst the young waiter was clearly told to be attentive, her first action was to squeeze three water glasses on the already crowded table and proceed to pour water for us. This resulted in her putting her elbow about 2 inches from my nose! I was obliged to moved my chair back significantly. Perhaps clearing the table of the extra setting was a better action. Her superior then took our order - the $28 special, of which there was a choice of about 12, had now gone up to $31 but with a caveat that several of the meals were, in fact $35! (I wondered why they just hadn't made all the meals a flat $32.) Next the orders - my friend enquired about the tuna salad and the source of the fish. I had to say I almost audibly laughed when we were told it was "very good quality John West". With another round of 'elbow in the face' water, we requested that she leave that in favour of bringing us our wine, and the extra setting was finally removed to give us a little space. Food arrived and, seriously, I can remember it as perfectly adequate-nothing necessarily worth comment. I do remember that the manager interrupted us to check on our 'satisfaction' when we were clearly deep in conversation. And then the new owner (yes, a change of hands, a change of costs) decided he needed to do something with the power. Alas, I was positioned near the electrical box so he literally leaned over me, his upper body almost touching the side of my head, forcing me to lean away from him. Twice. Seriously, how about thinking about your clients experience! It was the first time I had been back to Botticelli in probably 18 month, but it is also the last time. Too many other good choices around.

One of the better pasta places around town. Can be quite busy at times but that's only because the dishes are pretty good. Have been a regular here ever since we discovered it a couple of years ago.

There are positives and negatives for Botticelli of Brighton. Lets start with the positives,
I love the fact you can bring your own bottle of wine. The pasta is delicious and fresh and tasty. The staff are eager to please and try their best. Negatives: some staff dont speak english and we found it really hard to ask how the duck was cooked when she kept asking is we wanted it rare or well done when roast duck ALWAYS comes well done. I asked for salad and chips and I got potatoes and veggies. I found it really frustrating that I wasnt getting what I asked for and they couldn't understand so why bother to complain. It only really works if you are able to point at a menu item and ask no questions. Drinks service was a little slow but otherwise the food is good and we have dined there a few time so intend on going back. Next time I will have good translate ready to go!

Loved their pepper steak and being byo it's hard to beat also tried their bread with dips yum!!! The service was friendly and quite fast. Will be back!!!

We went to this restaurant for a special occasion and will never go back firstly our waitress had very poor English and we had trouble getting her to understand us . Secondly our table was very wonky . Thirdly and most important was the fact that when I asked for a mock tail to celebrate I was told that they could not do one. I found this so ride as they had an extensive cocktail list available and all they had to do was to leave the alcohol out !!! Surely in a so called upmarket place the customer comes first . The food was tasty but very poor value for money .
Choc Pudding
My friend and I came after new year and the staff are very friendly. The food was okay, had the scallop in shells which are quite nice, grilled chicken salad which was just okay, and crab tortellini which looked amazing but taste nothing near it. Could not taste the crab, and sauce looked amazing but pretty bland. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant, it felt very Italian, but with the price they have, I am not sure if it is worth it. Oh, we also had this Italian disaster cake which is like deconstructed cake made of custard and sponge with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a few berries and sauce. It tasted okay, but again, for $13 cake, I dont know if it is worth it
Peter789
Love this place, great food, great staff and the best pasta outside of Italy! It is good value for money and it is evidently very popular with the locals! Give it a try!
Food Food Food
We came here for dinner on the weekend. The restaurant was very busy and most of the tables were reserved. The service was very good. However, the food was very disappoint!! My linguine puttanesca looked nice, but it was very spicy and it was really no taste. The staff was nice and he offered to fix the meals for us. Most of the food really needed to add some more seasoning. The linguine marinara was ok. Food wasn't worth the money!! only service was good here!
Sabrina Ip
Only 2 waiting staff here, needed to wait for services. The food is good indeed. We ordered duck n mushroom risotto in size of main dish to share. But they don't have pizza...not really understand why they don't hv. The portion is huge, even shared among 2 of us. Sides we had garden salad & fries. They are alright. If u are not in a rush and don't mind without any choice of pizza, here is a nice to go for dinning on Church st.
Kat
I should've read the latest reviews before going here as the food was just so terrible I now have to comment myself. Ordered garlic bread which was a literal scraping of minced garlic over bread, the "homemade" gnocchi which was actually crappy packet gnocchi and carbonara which tasted like a tub of thickened cream. The restaurant was packed and the customer service was excellent so I'm wondering if there is something good here I'm missing? Unfortunately the food we picked was just so so bad I don't think I can risk another visit!
Nah
Indians running an Italian Restaurant. This used to be good about 20 years ago, but now it has been sold and is being run by an Indian couple who unfortunately just don't understand Italian food. A glass of Prosecco to start at $13 wasn't poured at the table but came straight from the kitchen. Was cheap fizzy white wine, which was almost undrinkable. To eat with the wine we had had herb bread and olives. The bread was commercially pre-packed white bread, only toasted on one side. Olives came in a large bowl, the type that are used for pizza, and were so salty they were inedible. Waited an hour for mains of spaghetti with smoked salmon. When we asked, they told us they were waiting for us to finish our bread and olives. Mains came after we complained, but the smell was of slightly off fish. Not smoked salmon but big lumps of pale pink and black fish. We walked out. Would never go there again.

Prices are ridicilous for what you get. We dined at Botticelli last night and I have dined here a few times before, once with an Entertainment voucher so it wasnt that bad.
I have order the pasta special in the past, which comes with a glass of wine, salad (which is disgusting) and some crusty old hard garlic bread ( not one bit fresh and it was a mixture of different sized bread, almost like it was left overs from last week) The pasta was delicious but the other items were really substandard.

Last night I really felt like a steak so my husband and I both had the steak - for 43 bucks per pop. I hated the salad last time so I opted for veggies this time which a much better decision. My husband had the salad and it really is something ordinary. He didnt eat.
We ordered the chips, which have changed recently from the beautiful skinny shoestrings to ordinary and mediocre mccain frozen chips.....blaaaaa. Please bring back the shoestring fries or for god sakes or just make you own. Have a look at Footscray Hotel and their steak, chips and salad look like for 38-40 bucks. MUCH better bang for buck and bloody delicious. Actually here is there recipe:

We’re often asked how we make our hand cut chips so golden brown yet light and fluffy on the inside? Here’s our secret method.
Peel and chop Royal Blue (Tasmanian) potatoes.
Steam potatoes for 20 minutes or until tender.
Allow to cool.
Blanch in hot oil at 120 degrees for 7 minutes.
Allow to cool.
When ready to serve, cook chips for 5 minutes at 180 degrees or until golden brown.
And, you’re done! Steps 1-5 can even be done the day before if you like.

Back to our review: I asked for a red wine sauce with our steak and a mushroom sauce. The mushroom was OKAY but very creamy. The red wine sauce was disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was literally red wine with seasoning heated up. I looked at my husband and laughed....there is ZERO reduction here and it almost tastes like they have added some flour to make it thicker or more gravy like. Seriously, I took one taste and almost vomited.

Needless to say I wont be back for the steak - EVER but maybe for the pasta without the salad and bread.

I wouldn't rush back to Botticelli, despite a few attempts, especially for the price. Best of luck
Beth Beaumont
What's going on Botticelli?. Went for dinner here last night. Some mix up on our table outside? That's okay life goes on. We were told to come back in 1/2 hr which we did. And again oops they've given our table away again! That's okay life goes on. We were starving by this stage so quickly ordered a garlic bread with cheese for our table of 4. It was delicious. Started reading the menu and was SHOCKED mains sat around $40. Was starting to think I was at Rockpool and not sitting outside the restaurant in the rain. Not your fault Mr Botticelli...the rain I mean but $40 a main is a bit steep. Food was great as usual but your prices have gone over and beyond. Won't be back at these rates. But as I said food was great??? You decide!

Very nice Italian. 2nd time we've been to Botticelli in the past 6 months - first time was dinner, today was lunch with friends. We found it very nice (on both occasions), good serves, pasta a specialty, good service, space between tables. Clearly a lot of regular diners. Fairly priced. We'll go back again.

Wonderful Dinner. Friday night the restaurant was packed, the service could not be faulted
Happy smiling staff and warm cosy atmosphere
The Food was better than any other in Brighton and we have tried them all
We all loved each of the courses
Cannot praise it enough and can't wait to go back

Where was the service. Took my friend for lunch for her birthday, I rang and booked a table outside. On arrival I went inside and waited for someone to acknowledge me, no one did for awhile. Finally told oh sit anywhere outside. Menu's were bought and we ordered our meal and wine. Our orders took a long time in arriving. As it was a bit cool I asked for the outside heater to be put on, that was forgotten, asked again and finally they got one going. No one came near us then, I had to signal by waving for a wait person to clear the table also no one asked how our meal was or if we would like another drink. The up shot is there was no service. Very poor for a place that is supposed to be fine dining

Lovely evening out!. I was a little hesitant based on some of the reviews below, however I found our meal to be excellent and the service to be kind and attentive. We had the eggplant parm as a shared starter (it was excellent), and then I had a special of Morton Bay Bugs. My husband had the vitello fungi and his dish was great as well. We also appreciated that this is one of the only restaurants in the area who are open on a Monday night. We had a great time and would recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious relaxed meal.

Expect to ask for everything. I've been to Botticelli now three times and have returned because the food is delicious! The pasta is as good as what you would expect in an Italian restaurant and so are the desserts. You can get an affordable meal deal and won't leave hungry. However, I won't be returning for some time because I am tired of asking to place my order, if I can have another drink, for the dessert menu... My partner and I are yet to be offered any of these things, we have asked every time. Unlike other restaurants it appears that the staff aren't allocated tables, and in the confusion of rushing around no one realizes you're not being looked after. Each time I've been I would have had more drinks but was never asked.
Great food and cute restaurant but very average service.

ARE YOU REALLY ITALIAN ?. It's my second time at botticelli this time i was taken by friends we started with garlic bread it was stale and burnt not a good way to begin .There was four of us so we all had the meal deal salad wine and pasta . We had gnocchi with pesto the gnocchi were like rubber bullets you could of had a game of tennis with them very poor from a italian restaurant and the plate was flooded in sauce the salad was wilted and old ,the risotto was very dry are you really sure you know how to cook italian food i've had better food the the deli at half the price by the way we were half through our meals before the waiter came with the wine after asking him for the second time the other 2 pasta's weren't much better over cook marinara with a very watery sauce what happened to the virgin oil and garlic haha you guys are a real joke and lastly a matricana and guess what it came with mushrooms and no chilli since when do you put mushrooms in a matricana sauce i'm really sad to say the owner really needs to learn italian food and train his staff but i think he needs to learn himself on how to cook italian food very poor effort from an italian restaurant .

-----24 Dec, 2014-----

What a bad night. We had dinner at botticelli on tuesday night they call themselves a ltalian restaurant what a joke we had pasta which was badly over cooked and the plate was flooded in sauce what a joke what happened to ''al dente'' we also had salmon which was also badly over cooked and dry what happened to salmon being cooked med rare and to top in off we had italian casatta which we thought was made their wrong again you can buy it from coles or woolworths another joke poor excuse for fine italian food
Natters Chatters
Begun with booking over the phone... I asked for an outside table where I was informed "if it's available" o_O I asked "Can I not book for an outside table?" He said ok in the end, but I was left confused from the start, and feeling like I had requested for a red rug entrance.

As we sat down everything seemed pleasant enough thank goodness, however I did have to request for an ashtray.. it was 'supposedly' coming!

After ordering their special; languine bolognaise, garlic bread, and salad for myself, and 1 other languine bolognaise.. we found that the 2 pasta dishes delivered to our table was noticeably different; my dish (the special but more expensive) honoured barely any bolognaise sauce over the linguine compared to the other dish, and quite a variance in size smaller. Anyway, after consumption we were lost in chit chat and realised, I never received the red wine which was part of my special. As I went into pay, I informed them of this omission, and they told me it was my fault... it was because I never asked for it. I was aghast at their response! They took off a diet coke from the bill in the end (which is much lesser in value) and made us feel wrong in not doing things 'their way'. Their way, is to ask for the glass of wine even though it is part of the $29 special.

Food was ok, but I've cooked better pasta from a supermarket selection. The bolognaise sauce was a complete joke (even with the little I received). The garlic bread was mainly butter with bottled garlic, and the salad was your little pub variety.

Definitely not returning.

Good luck if you try this place folks, it doesn't deserve to be functioning in Church Street.

Great service and restaurant!. Was really happy with the service and the food. We shared an entree and has a main each and the food was delicious. The service was great, and being BYO is a nice change, with corkage only $5. The only slight criticism was that the mains came too quickly after our entrees. But, the service was great. Very attentive staff and the atmosphere was nice, perhaps just a little loud but can't see how the venue can help that, it was a full house.
Will be back!

Went for christmas lunch 2013 totally dissapointed with very average food and service and st the end informed no xmas pudding left at 120.00 per head was not happy to say the least

The main course was fabulous. The service was excellent. The desserts were pretty ordinary and definately not worth the $13 charge. Also if you advertise tea from T2 you do not give a Twinnings tea bag and charge $4.50

We enjoyed our meals lovely fresh seafood in the paella ,pastas were good Enjoyed the ambience ,service and liked being able to BYO

Average. Really wasn't impressed. Garlic bread was average and main meal also average. It wasn't horrible but I won't go back in a hurry. But might give it one more go to see if we just made the wrong choice of dish.

Consistently good. We go to Botticelli's a couple of times a month. The service is very pleasant, even when they are rushed off their feet. On Fridays and Saturdays the place is buzzing. The ambience is relaxed. The specials don't really change but there's plenty on the menu to choose from. The flounder is good as are the pasta dishes and the crepes are a favourite with us. It's not haute cuisine but consistently good. Also very convenient to the Dendy cinema.

Nice food. I was a little worried about the reviews, but my wife and I were delighted with our meals. She had the Gnocchi and raved about it. I had these giant like ravioli called Anglotti and they just tasted out of this world.

We'd go again just for these two dishes.

Recently returned and found the food awful. The tortellini my wife had were tasteless and the gnocchi for my main course didn't appear to be potato at all. It was mostly flour. Not worth the money.

I have been to Botticelli a number of times in the last 6 months with my wife, family and overseas visitors. On each visit the service has been excellent as has the food. In particular, the steak dishes we have ordered have been consistently excellent, as have the seafood pasta dishes. The only criticism I could offer is that the specials board does not change very often.
The wine list whilst relatively small has nice selections by the glass and bottle. Décor is interesting (a little different, but nice). The restaurant is always busy with locals. We are looking forward to returning. Highly Recommended.
Local
Busy and loud. Dined here for dinner with my husband and two friends on a Friday night, nice little corner table, with emphasis on little table, way too small for 4.
Food was very good and generous, service also very good.
However as busy and small it is very noisy, difficult for conversation, prices are fairly high. Not a choice for a quiet meal

We were nervous due to reviews but were pleasantly surprised. Unpretentious yet attentive service, warm atmosphere and lovely food. I had a large prawn and scallop linguine with Chilli and herbs, she had the duck ravioli. The food wasn't incredible but it was delicious and for the price in that suburb I thought decent. I would recommend this place on a cold winter night for dinner before a 9pm movie screening. We would come here again.

We had two Entertainment Book vouchers that we showed to the female staff person when we walked in, and she said we can use them both.
When it came to payment, the male waiter said that we can only use one of the vouchers and was insistent on it even after arguing with him for 15 minutes. It was only after he rang the female colleague (whom had since left) and we said we would "tell the world" about them that he budged.

The evening special menu is excellent value at $29. It includes garlic bread, a choice of pasta dishes and a glass of wine. I went with my husband and 2 friends on a Wednesday night. We sat outside and the street dining feels very European. I had the linguine salmon which was very tasty, just the right amount of salmon and a delicious creamy sauce. There isn't really a need to have the salad as the portions are large. There was definitely no room for dessert. I would definitely go back here.

I dont write reviews. But after coming here. Waiting 2 hours for a main and getting a well done stake instead of rare and getting duck ravioli that tastes like Safeway down the road. Will never come back and you shouldn't come.
Table For Two
Botch up at Botticelli. Unfortunately one of the most underwhelming Italian food experiences to date . The pasta was under cooked and tasted as though it had been dumped straight from a Safeway brand packet. Just because the word Penne encapsulates the word pen doesn't mean the past should be as hard as one!
For the price you pay there you wouldn't be unreasonable to expect homemade pasta. Its just as well the waiter regularly tops up your water glass as the salinity level in the meals are well above average. The only draw back from the glasses being topped up regularly is you are subjected to the waiters B O, did I mention from both waiters? To top it of I got 'the look' when paying for the meal by card. Sorry buddy but if you wan't a tip a bit more effort will be required. Not what I was expecting, very disappointing.

Had a lovely meal here recently and was pleasantly surprised. Last experience was a bit hit and miss but couldn't fault it this time. Food was delicious and I've always liked the atmosphere here. Worth having a go, pasta is excellent

Nice :-). After reading the mixed reviews, wasn't sure what to expect, but so glad we came. Lovely evening, lovely food, great waiting staff, and big menu. Had the scallops and then a prawn pasta. Good value for money :-)

I rarely write a review however I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I ordered the eye fillet cooked medium and it came out rare. I told the waiter who responded with 'ok' proceeded to poke the meat with my fork, then walked away. No apology or offer to recook/ replace. Just the bill for a substandard meal. The waitress also spilt water all over my arm and the table for me to clean up. I definately will not be going back.

A busy restaurant clearly popular with locals. We had to wait 20 mins outside for our 8.30 booking but prefer that to have seen them rushing other diners. Otherwise excellent food & service & it offers BYO.

Good food, good price. We went for dinner on a Friday night and were amazed we could get a deal of wine, garlic bread, garden salad and pasta for $28. Staff were really friendly and attentive and the food was great. We had the seafood spaghetti and a chicken pasta dish and not only was it all delicious it was also a nice sized serving. It tasted too good to leave behind so we both left the restaurant "food- drunk". Cant wait to go back again.

Average food, bad experience. 6 people squashed onto a table for 4 even though we had booked a week ahead. Service was exceptionally poor . Our wine sat there for 15mins before we opened it ourseleves. Food was mixed. Lamb was loved by those that had it but the pasta with prawns, calamari and scallops was really poor. Seafood was tasteless and obviously packet frozen stuff, too much oil and no flavour.
Would never go back. There are so many better options in the area.

Really lovely. Went there with my husband and dog, sat outside on a warm summer night. It was lovely. The service was great and food nice too. I had the seafood linguine and really enjoyed it.
They make great french fries, which is a nice treat. But the best is the location and ambiance.
Will be back for sure.

Pretty simple Italian restaurant, nothing extravagant on the menu and food itself was nothing to rave about. Antipasto was not very Italian, mostly just garden salad and frozen seafood. The service was good until the dinner rush hour and we never saw the waiter again. Food came out extremely fast which made me think maybe it had just been pre made awaiting order. Overall not a very special dining experience.

Good Lunch Deal. Went for a spur of the moment lunch, had entertainment voucher. They had a $20 lunch deal, any pasta w garden salad and a glass of wine. Cheap, delish, good sized servings and great service :)

Duck to die for !. Our 4th time back. A lovely romantic dinner for 2. Excellent food - the Duck was magnificent yet again. Great service from a staff that likes what they do. ( Seriously a true gem - why would you go anywhere else.) Great service, ( Thanks Chris & guys).

Being at 95% capacity at 7.00 pm, with the only 3 empty tables "RESERVED" ...Shows that they are doing something definitley very, very, right. Fantastic !

A wonderful night. There are many times when one's perception of a restaurant can be influenced by the good (or bad) company present. Our first meal at Botticelli of Brighton is a case in point.
My wife and I had a wonderful night due in large part to the presence of some very good friends on whose suggestion we all ate there. In those circumstances the food becomes secondary to the enjoyment of the occasion.
First impressions of the restaurant were very good. Service was very professional and welcoming. The Maitre D' struck just the right note. Decor was a little strange but quite all right.
As for the food, in my opinion it was good without being at the super good end. You won't be disappointed, as the kitchen staff certainly knows what they are doing. Maybe it's Brighton and the type and age group of the majority of customers, but I thought the menu choices somewhat at the conservative (safe?) "comfort food" end of things. And the food seems to carry through with that theme. Nothing at all to criticise, but then again nothing to rave about either.
Prices are quite reasonable for this type of restaurant and being BYO as well as licensed is a big PLUS.
As this is our first visit, I can't be sure, but I don't think you would be disappointed if you try Botticelli of Brighton, but then again it is unlikely you will be inspired. As I mentioned at the start we had a great night!
