Review Marmalade Cafe - Brighton

Hayley Sward
$9.90 for an egg & bacon muffin?!? Sorry but that's a joke! Dry as a bone, no butter or sauce/relish - I've never heard of such a thing. I think you could at least have the discretion to put some pricing on the food display if you're going to charge twice what someone would pay anywhere else. $23.90 for day old break, 2L of full cream and the egg & bacon muffin. Excessive pricing to say the least.

Friendly helpful staff, great food delivered quickly. Avocado smash with bacon and a large latte. All for less than $25.

Decent food and coffee, but I remember being served by this distinguished gentleman named Davin. He was very hospitable and gave me my order in time and was an overall good bloke to have on your cafe. Felt very valued and would go again, only if he's serving.

Wow, I grew up around the corner from this place. It always used to be my favourite local fish and chip shop, but now it's been turned into an exotic cafe by owner Fran. Well done on an incredible transformation into a clean, modern, yet laid back cafe; a great use off the shop space.

This place was recommended by a friend when we needed somewhere for a relaxed family meeting. We had some good menu choices available, including for the family member with the awkward food restrictions. My green bowl was very tasty! The others all enjoyed their meals too. Coffee was fine too. Overall, it was exactly what we wanted. Since then the rest of the family has returned for another meeting so that's an endorsement too.

Very friendly staff and the food was delicious

Very disappointing experience here this morning. The staff, as hip as they may try to look were actually quite rude. After placing my order, I was looking at a few things in the display when told to wait outside until my order was ready. I was actually going to purchase some eggs, a curry and salad from the display but was taken aback by the rudeness and complete lack of basic customer service skills, so chose to obey the directive of staff and stand outside in the July rain as they warmed my melt and didn't bother any further with the other purchases. The coffee was luke warm at best, the melt actually wasn't too bad but would want to be OK at the exorbitant price charged. A very simple decision for me - will not return and cannot recommend at all. Hopefully this place does not go the way of it's sister shop Primrose Hill Deli and go out of business, but your efforts and attitude needs to improve drastically.

A nice, cozy atmosphere with soft music and a nice ambience. Good coffee and great food, accompanied by amazing service! There's a wide variety of breakfast options and overall a good experience. There was a minor issue with the baked beans being unexpectedly spicey, and when brought to their attention the owner tried them and agreed and didn't charge for those and a free coffee... Can't ask for more than that!! It will be on our regulars list ☺️

Had a fantastic dinner with great company at Marmalade tonight, can highly recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already. Must have’s are the saganaki and asparagus appertizers, get in quick!

This cafe cares. The owner and staff are wonderful, engaging and proud of their cafe. The food is consistently good and the coffee is the best.

Marmalade is a home away from home. It's a warm, welcoming and friendly cafe with a big focus on amazing food, good coffee and a community vibe. It's family friendly, my toddler is greeted with hugs and smiles. It's our favourite place to visit and relax in East Brighton!

Yum yum yum!!!!

Food and service is always of the highest order. Fran always makes you feel welcome and nothing is ever too much trouble. I consider us to be incredibly fortunate to have this hidden gem of a business at the end of our street. Love that it s also dog friendly as well.

Marmalade cafe and primrose deli have never disappointed! Love them - for almost 7 years!

Delicious fresh food, splendid coffee, friendly and quick service, and a great atmosphere!

It's been away too long since I've had the pleasure of being here. Superb coffee, divine food and wonderful people make this beautiful café a real treasure.

Excellent everything including the folks who work here/own it!

My go to. Staff are always friendly and a good atmosphere. Coffee is delicious. Food is also very good. Prices are very reasonable.<br/><br/>The actual venue is a little dated, and i would love to see some work get put into making the place look a little nicer. Other than that, can’t fault it!
Rachel Ciconte
This cafe is really cute and cosy! The decor is really warming and it's a comfortable little cafe when you want to kick-back and relax with a coffee and some delicious food any day of the week! The staff are so nice and friendly, and the coffee is amazing!
Simmyeats.Melb
Marmalade is a cosy and friendly cafe with a standard menu.  <br/><br/>Coffee was good along with the French toast.  The French toast was beautifully presented with nice fresh berries and banana, the maple syrup drizzle was a nice accompaniment to the dish.  The bread was nice and dense, coated with caramelisation.
Claire
Fantastic first time experience at the Marmalade cafe today. I felt like the cafe had a nice warm and welcoming vibe. The staff were very polite and friendly. The service was quick and food fresh and delicious. The coffee was great too! I will definitely be going back again soon.

Such a beautiful cafe, the food is delicious, coffee is yum :) <br/><br/>I highly recommend this cafe, it is a great place to grab a quick takeaway or to sit in and relax! Love!!

My 'go to' place in the Brighton area - the food is always amazing and their almond chai latte is delicious. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the vibe is relaxed and kid friendly - there's even toys for my little ones to play with. Try the corn and zucchini fritters!!! Will be back again soon.

Love this cafe - have been going for years and never been disappointed! Great choice of food and really friendly staff. Vegan & vego choices and food always beautifully presented. Would highly recommend and so lucky to have this as my local.
Brunch Diaries
Popped in for lunch tempted by the high Zomato rating . Unfortunately the coffee was really bad, service was disappointing, I got the feeling everyone who served me really wanted to be somewhere else. The food was not only disappointing but cold on arrival. There are many better options in the area.
Dine And Dash
One of my local cafés in Brighton East. I love coming here for my coffee in the morning - the staff are always happy to serve and are very friendly.<br/><br/>When eating there, I usually order the French Toast. It is absolutely divine - the berries on the plate definitely make the dish! I always get the chicken and avocado sandwich but I think they've removed it from the menu, unfortunately! <br/><br/>Definitely, check the place out!
Jgrv Fwf4e
Very disappointed with the quality of food. Used to love this place by they have been going downhill for a while. Do not recommend unfortunately

Staff: 5/5<br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Decor: 3/5<br/>Will return? Possibly<br/><br/>Came here with my dad who ordered the smashed avocado, he thoroughly enjoyed his and was a good size for the price. I ordered the quinoa salad which was ok - it was lacking ingredients - it was basically just quinoa with one cauliflower and one eggplant. Wouldn’t order it again especially for the price charged.
Mrs Brunch
Cute cafe tucked away on Hawthorn Road. <br/><br/>Service was nice and food came out in a timely manner. The cafe was a little too cold for comfort with all patrons needing to keep their jackets on. <br/><br/>Tried the Quinoa Porridge. Presentation was lovely. The porridge itself was a little watery and I would've expected the stewed fruit to be hot. Yogurt was a nice touch. <br/><br/>Ordered a long black, was just ok. Served with no crema which is disappointing. <br/><br/><br/>
Who Loves Good Food
Lovely corner cafe along East Brighton. Coffee was alright. Liked: Big Brekkie, Eggs Bene, Toasted egg & bacon cheese sandwich. Disliked: Poached chicken herbed mayo avocado sandwich, it was cold & tasteless. Prices here are reasonable.
Sarah Grimm
Really disappointing, I asked if a dish had an ingredient in it which I can’t eat due to it making me ill, was informed that it didn’t. Ordered the dish only to eat some and then find out that it was included in the dish. If the staff had informed me then I would have happily ordered something else. I don’t understand why they lied to me; luckily I was able to make it back to my house before being ill. Also very lucky that it isn’t an allergic reaction, that could have been dangerous. <br/>I used to come to this café all the time, the staff seem to have changed, not too polite, very apologetic in hindsight, but still extremely disappointing considering I specifically asked about the dish.
Karina Short
My son and I had a lovely breakfast here.  Prices are reasonable and food is good ..... and plenty of it, they are not stingy.<br/>The staff are lovely and smiley.  Great way to start my day.
Liza Holdsworth
Every time I go to Marmalade Cafe they are so accommodating to me & my family & to my food intolerances. So nice to feel relaxed to eat out which sometimes can be a stress when you can't eat everything on menus. My partner loves the Big Breakie, my fav at the moment is the Turmeric latte yum... yum... <br/>Highly recommend! :)
Daniel Galileos
Best "big breakfast" I've had in a long time! The staff were very friendly. We were acknowledged as soon as we walked in the door with a friendly smile. This place was great and the food was incredible. We will be back for sure

Hidden gem! Beautiful cafe with a relaxed and welcoming, local feel. The food was rustic, wholesome and delicious. I'm told the coffee is amazing too.

My mornings wouldn't be the same without my Marmalade pit stop!<br/>Staff are super friendly, consistently good coffee and delicious homemade food. You won't get a better chicken, mayo sandwich south of river. All round great neighbourhood cafe. Love it!
Michael Keshishian
love it!!<br/>Great food, great coffee every time.<br/>No matter what you fancy, the menu covers all bases. Have been a regular for some time and they never fail to satisfy.

Marmalade is a home away from home. It's a warm, welcoming and friendly cafe with a big focus on amazing food, good coffee and a community vibe. It's family friendly, my toddler is greeted with hugs and smiles. The staff are lovely, the barista makes fabulous coffee, and the house made bircher is delicious. It's our favourite place to visit and relax in Brighton East!
JD
Had a great lunch here - exceptional for the money. Shepherd's pot pie was simple and delicious. Efficient & friendly service + decent coffee make this a little gem. Thanks guys!

Absolutely disgusting! I genuinely found mice in the toilet and saw one run into the kitchen! But that wasn't even the worst of it.<br/><br/>Having read the reviews, I walked into Marmalade Cafe with the confidence of a good meal, with decent service. My confidence was completely misplaced. <br/><br/>As 'NomNomNom' said in his review, the staff are completely uninterested in the customers. The food tasted average, and was clearly prepared with little care or skill. <br/><br/>Most alarming were the actions of the owner, however. I over heard her talking to one of her employees; they were openly mocking one of the customers who had just walked out about the way she looked. It was truly appalling behaviour. <br/><br/>Absolutely awful, I can only surmise that the decent rating that Marmalade enjoys is because of kind hearted regulars not cruel enough to call it how it is: Marmalade is not worth a visit, avoid at all costs. If I could give it a 0, I would.

Go to cafe....a safe bet for those mornings you can't decide and all you know is you don't want to spend $$$ on a feed. This has been a consistent go to place for me for a while. Their sourdough bread is good and the tea and juices are satisfying....the coffee isn't my favourite but I don't mind because the almond meal brownies make up for it👍 they have a sister restaurant a few doors down called the primrose hill deli....they sell the sourdough bread there and have a really nice garden at the back for those sunnie days. The menu there is more limited but good for a pre-made sandwich.<br/>3.5/5

I've been coming here over five years now and you know what I simply love this cafe. It's homie, warm and inviting. Staffs here are always accommodating. Coffee here is incredibly consistent. I personally love to have The Turkish melt (every filling will do). This cafe is located near the corner of Nepean and Hawthorn Rd. therefore just makes it so convenient. Highly commended.
NomNomNom
Coffee is nice, but geez could the employees be any less interested. Went here today and felt like we were annoying the ladies at the front just by walking in the place. Note to you ladies, people remember bad customer service. Bad customer service is a reason to never come back. I'll be trying the neighbouring cafe next time.
Foodinfocusz
Something has changed, this is not the same cafe I used to visit in the past. Service haphazard and unfortunately the soup I ordered was under seasoned and lacking in flavour. Hopefully it was just an off day for them!
Millz
Beautiful breakfast foods!! Many of which are healthy and delicious!!! The cafe is very cute, with lots of character. I would recommend to anyone looking for their new FAVOURITE breakfast destination!
Steven
Great food, great staff, great coffee and great ambience at out "local". And they take bookings!<br/>Check out the specials board for yummy surprises each week.

Cute and Cosy Corner Find. Marmalade has to be my one stop shop when visiting Melbourne! Whether it's a quick coffee, late breakfast or catching up with friends for lunch, Marmalde is the place to meet. From the moment you walk in you're greeted by friendly smiles and the warmest welcome. There is no such thing as customer service, as the staff are the most genuine people you will meet, always ready to have a chat and offer their expertise on the menu. The staff here are like no other. Nothing is ever out of the question and will go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. They don't annoy you with the "can I take your order" every five minutes. Letting you relax and order when your ready. Something that's hard to find these days!!! The coffee is honestly the best in Melbourne and the menu rich in gluten free options. If the menu isn't enough, they also have a scrumptious deli offering alternative options and delicious treats. The decor is a funky vintage retro theme, oozing the melbourne vibe, so many try to create. Definitely worth the drive or a must if you live in the Brighton area. I have no doubt it will soon be your favourite place to.
Mandy
Yum! Great coffee. Highly recommend the mushroom fiesta dish- so yummy. I am also v fussy about my coffee and was impressed with my skinny 3/4 latte from Marmalade.
Orly.pinchas
Love it. The coffee is amazing, great fresh tasting food and awesome service, very friendly.<br/>They really do know how to make you feel welcome and comfortable. <br/>Quick service<br/>Worth a visit
Ck
Shame about the customer service! You know you are in trouble when the waitress yells at you as soon as you enter- don't sit there I have to clean it first!! Relax love it's just a dirty table! Rude staff can really ruin your lunch experience . Btw food was okay just average really!

My breakfast destination. My family loves having breakfast at Marmalade. The Turkish melt is superb. Great coffee. Nice atmosphere too. Not to mention really friendly service from staffs. Can not fault anything from this lovely cafe. Highly recommended!!!

Sunday breaky with my GF. Got the big breaky (loooooved the mushrooms...)and GF built her own egg combo with roast tomatoes and avocado. With some proper Melbourne quality coffee... Grabbed a home made lemon tart to go, what a treat... Loved every single crumb of it...<br/>Marmalade never fails... Always makes us happy...<br/>Great place, atmosphere and staff...
Lulu
What a little gem! Our charming barista went out of his way this morning to create a table for us. Our coffees and amazing lemon curd slice were winners. We'll be back soon to try the enticing dinner menu.

Great coffee and food. Great Coffee and food. Nice retro cafe is consistent. Great place to catch up with friends. Many regulars is an indication that people like the place. Good service.

At home. I feel very much at home here as they know my coffee and toast so it arrives quickly. Their Deli a few doors down is handy also.
Andy
Great coffee, great food, kid friendly and one of my favourite cafés. Open early so take advantage because it can get busy.

Having been OS for a while I was so glad to come home and find this great local as warm, welcoming as I remember it.. Love the chicken sandwich and great coffee to rival some of Melbourne's top cafes.. Ill be back again and again!!
Priscillaburke
YUM!. Lovely little spot with great options. Love every dish I have tried there and esp the ORGANIC coffee :)<br/><br/>The peanut caramel slice and apple mix juice are regulars for me and highly recommended
Louise
Love this cafe. What a friendly atmosphere, great food and wonderful service. Would definitely recommend to people who love their coffee and beautiful food. Don't forget to read the history of the cafe inside the menu...
Herring
Unco. Inside in the cooler months is far too hot & stuffy. Staff are wearing T-shirts, while customers come in with heavy winter clothing. Very claustrophobic. Outside not pleasant either as right next to busy Hawthorne Road / Nepean Highway intersection, with a lot of traffic noise & exhaust fumes.<br/><br/>Two customers who came in after me were served before me. Waitress tried to take my coffee away when it was still 1/4 full. Any cafe these days that does not offer wholemeal bread is not serious about serving healthy food.<br/><br/>The whole place just seems awkward, and not relaxing.
Janno
Just off the Busy Nepean Highway.. Feel like a relaxing "fuel" stop (for you). Get off the Nepean at Hawthorn Road, and relax with great food and coffee and service at Marmalade.

Very Enjoyable Cafe. I have been to this cafe twice now! Great service and really enjoy the food.<br/>1st time my daughter and I had the French toast with berries and bananas and it was incredible, just divine with great coffees.<br/>2nd time was yesterday for a quick bite, the poached chicken and salad<br/>sandwich was fresh and tasty, my husband ordered the poached fruit and yoghurt and no complaints there, again great coffee.<br/>I found the crew to be friendly and welcoming even if they are busy!<br/>Will definitely visit again.<br/>Thank you
Tara Laube
I visit the Marmalade often for coffee which is always great. But I stopped in for some poached fruit..something I wouldn't normally order. I was delighted and very satisfied. I love the atmosphere and the staff are sincere and down to earth which I like.
Rochelle
AMAZEBALLS!!! Go there and eat NOW! Beautiful breakfasts til the arvo, best Shepherd's Pot Pie I've ever had and the setting and staff are great. GET OUTTA YOUR CHAIR AND GO, NOW!!
Foodie101
Staff weren't very inviting but coffee and food were both very nice.

Savouring the Memory. Hosting a small lunch at home for a family birthday I asked the girls at Marmalade if they would supply a selection of cheese, antipasto a fresh sponge and cheesecake to suppliment the main course which they did with care as if it was for their own family. <br/>At home as we stood around eating the cheese and antipasto I thought someone should take a photo to remember the gathering but the birthday girl said " no mum... I want to stay just as we are enjoying this food with everyone, this will be a great memory".<br/>Thank you to Fran and Gabbie and your wonderful team at Marmalade and Primrose Hill deli for your committment to quality and freshness and providing a wonderful selection of good food.
Moana
A new favourite. My first time to this lovely little cafe and I was warmly greeted at the door and shown to my table, passing by smiling staff who were all happy to say hello. My coffee arrives promptly, an amazing Syndicate blend, perfectly brewed. The menu is extensive and as food is whisked by me I realise the decision I have to make will be tough! I settle on the french toast, challah bread dripping in maple syrup and dotted with mixed berries. Delightful! I can't wait to come back and try something else.
Mel
Local favourite. Love Marmalade! Food is always great, best coffee in bayside and my daughter loves the little box of toys!
L
Lovely venue...... Really enjoy the coffee and great service!! Always greeted with a smile and the food is always cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere and will return!!!!!!!!

Marmalade leaves a sour taste. Yesterday my partner and I had brunch at Marmalade. We have been there several times before, but we have now decided not to go back. The food is great here - good quality but the thing that let's Marmalade down is the service. Every time we go we are not greeted, then we stand there for a while until someone comes to serve us with a surly expression. Then when we order there is no eye contact, and an officious manner, but on the way back to the cafe there are friendly hello's for others. I would have thought a basic thing to experience at a cafe was friendliness or at least politeness so that we would want to come back. Because of the lack of customer service, we won't be returning.
Joy
Terrible food - everything was burnt and inedible, what a pity
Jane Katherine
Just lovely!. We've been here three times and each time we've been impressed by the lovely attentive service, fantastic food and lush display.<br/>So hard to pick from the menu!<br/>Excellent service, down to being encouraged to wait in the connected deli a few doors down with a coffee until a table was made available.<br/>Personal favourite is the pesto scrambled eggs with feta - delicious!
Claire Flanagan-Smith
Yummmmm! Affordable deliciousness for our whole family, including a 6 and 4 year old. The wait staff were smiling and helpful and the atmosphere is gorgeous. Thanks urbanspoonsters for the recommendation. The lamb ragout was to die for.
Heather L
Love the Bircher muesli, it's served with poached fruit and the best yoghurt lve ever eaten.<br/>Try to limit myself to once a week ! Also you can get a half serve which is extremely filling.<br/>Also great coffee and staff and in the warmer months a lovely courtyard.<br/><br/><br/>-----25 Sep, 2012-----<br/><br/>Consistently fabulous food, excellent coffee and friendly unpretentious staff.<br/>A friendly buzz,am attempting to work my way through the menu! But can't get past my favorites !
Fi Fi Deluxe
Suburban Splendour. For a city gal venturing out to the suburbs it came as a pleasant surprise to find this little treasure. Not only greeted by friendly smiles, but the food selection is extensive and each time I've eaten there has been fantastic (mushroom fiesta is a must). The coffee is too, but remember, guests demand a slightly hotter coffee there, so ask for it warm if you're used to city temperatures!<br/>If you're local, you're lucky! Such a lovely place to call your own. <br/>If you're coming from inner city, it's well worth the drive for a lazy weekend breaky/lunch.
Alissa
We are locals and are happy to say this is the best thing that has happened to east Brighton! Fantastic coffee, excellent service and despite their success the owners remain committed to employing sufficient staff and excellent baristas
E
Glorious!. OMG, can their french toast get any better?? Seriously, I'm a french toast connoisseur and it's amazingly delicious. I love the friendly, smiley, laid back staff (seriously, some Brighton cafes have the most pretentious staff...ergh!). The coffee is sooo good, the cups and saucers are so quaint and the chai is fantastic!<br/><br/>I really like their other cafe, the Deli 2 doors down. Their coffee is just as good and their gourmet sangas and rolls are so fresh and good.
Andrew
Amazing food, even better coffee!. What used to be one of the best-kept secrets in East Brighton, Marmalade café never disappoints with amazing breakfasts and top-notch coffee! Poached eggs with bacon, avocado and thick-sliced, drenches organic sourdough is hard to beat. They also do an amazing “big breakfast” or BLT if you’re in need of a post Saturday night fix! Most importantly their coffee (syndicate) is expertly prepared by the lovely team of baristas who seem to know every customer in the place! They also do a pretty good iced coffee (but ask for a strong one!). <br/><br/>Grab a table outside in summer but be warned, get in early on the weekend as they are all taken by lunchtime, or better yet, make a booking!
Karolina Samborska
Best coffee and breaky in Melbourne. Absolutely love Marmalade Cafe! Definitely the best coffee in Melbourne, one is never enough, the food is fresh, high quality, from the farm to the table, delicious. The atmosphere is fab and authentic, you can tell the owners put alot of love into it from all the little details, gorgeous cups and saucers, teaspoons and flowers on the table, very cosy!
Galvanized Hollywood
Some great reviews have been written about this little nugget of culinary brilliance.....and they are all right.....but the true mark of any petit cafe is the coffee......and Marmalade Cafe has the perfect match of great barista and great coffee blend. Need a java fix, a robusta experience, an aribica morning, then get to Cafe Marmalade and begin your warm and fuzzy breaky with an experienced shot of pure excellent coffee!
Littleguy
Really liked this cafe. Very warm and welcoming. Good service, great price and nice breakfast selection. Kid friendly and cosy. Will go back.
Lisa
Go for the cakes!. Best sponge cake, home made, with real cream. Worth the trip for this alone.
Jane-nic
JUST GREAT. It was very homely, warm, very busy alot of atmosphere when we went last Sunday morning, which we like, as it says the cafe is popular/food nice. Service by the waitress's very friendly and quick thus saying the young man and the lady at the Barista were quick. Coffee and Hot chocolate was exactly to our taste. People were just coming and going all the time. A little gem. We will be back for breakfast next time. The only negative thing is we pulled up across the other side of the road, thought the cafe was closed. I wonder how many people have thought that and moved on. But as I said they were very busy.
Amanda Olesen
So disappointing. After being served a gluten laden supposedly gluten free breakfast and requesting a proper gluten free version the owner came out and told me she would only charge me half for the second meal. Me - "Please clarify!." Owner (my version) - "Well, we'll charge you for the one you couldn't eat because we totally stuffed it up with non-gluten free sausages and bread and we'll ONLY charge you half for the second meal."<br/>Almost ready to leave and with a very detailed discussion ensuing and my friend desperate to eat her average looking breakfast the owner finally gave in and only charged me for 1 breakfast which took ages to arrive and seriously was not worth the wait. The GF bread was beautiful but unfortunately I won't ever go back to enjoy it.
Fish
Local Gem. Very good spot indeed. The breakfast menu is huge - about 4 pages of eggs, omeletes, muesli, porridge, quinoa porridge, Bircher Muesli, croissants, muffins and toast. I just had a coffee and it was a good brew. Plenty of seating and he staff were all quite nice. Must return for breaky as the Bircher looked the goods. Good relaxed and welcoming feel to the place too.
Subifoodie
BEST BREAKFAST EVER. What a charmer this little place is in Brighton East. the girls who run this country style cafe really have translated grandma's recipes in brilliant fashion...bircher muesli with rhubarb and raspberry compote was delicious and the choice of lip smacking egg dishes just endless. Everything is so fresh and a lot is home grown out the back in their organic gardens...the service is also exceptional...as Molly would say..Do youself a favour!
Robert Kennedy
Best BLT going by far, service can be a bit slow but well worth the wait.
Tammy Levy
Good food. I go there quite often how ever the service is very slow and they are a bit pricey. Not much to eat there but breakfast.<br/>The size of the meals is nice but has shrieked significantly since I first started going there. Still the food is great!
Reets
Local haunt, cosy nook.. The food at Marmalade never fails to please. Servings are generous and well presented. Coffee is excellent and service is warm and friendly and unlike so many pretentious places thesedays. This place cares about their food. With the constant crowds, my opinion seems to be shared by many. Superb Bircher Muesli with delicate poached fruit and yoghurt whets my appetite every time.
Tiana123
Best poached eggs around this area! Hats off to the staff; very friendly, very prompt, and always smiling!
The Fish Man
I like it, they use a good coffee machine, use good milk. I have a very weel developed palette for coffee. So my taste buds are extra sensitive, they slightly burnt the grind but ther than that it is a fantastic place. Location wise and visually.
Furby Jean
I recently discovered this little gem whilst browsing through urbanspoon, and what a find it is! Coffee, food and service is great, for those who love your eggs served on a thick dense bread you should give this kitch cafe a try.
TSE
Good food, but it was so crowded that I felt like I was a peice of cattle. We spent the last 30 mins of our breakfast with people standing next to us so they could have our table when we left. Not fun. Probably would be better during the week, as it is only a tiny place and v popular.
Alan
Nice food, they are just a bit dodgy when it comes to table bookings.
Amanda Galteri
Best in Bayside. Officially the best cafe in Bayside, Marmalade Cafe offers it all - fantastic & super friendly service, ah-mazing coffee & the best & most extensive menu & lunch menu I have come across. This quaint cafe serves an incredible chai soy latte (my specialty) and anything form their Bircher Muesli to their Vegetable Melt is to die for. I leave having to undo my jean button everytime, their servings are so generous & incredibly well priced :P A must try for anyone looking for a new regular hotspot.
Craig
Great bircher & fantastic coffee. Great place to spend an hr or 2 catching up on the newspapers.
Go_girl
Lovely chai latte!
Steve Baron
Top spot for coffee, breakfast & lunch. Well priced, lots of variety and super friendly staff.
Digital Darren
Fantastic find! Not only are the staff wonderfully friendly, but they have an option for gluten free toast (for the amazing big brekkie), and are very kid friendly. A new Sunday brunch spot!
LM
Great coffee (fair trade!), delicious and wholesome fresh food, friendly and welcoming staff. This cafe is a good find.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Located at the end of Hawthorn Road, Marmalade isn't one of Melbourne's great cafes. It is however a very good local café, the sort of place most people would be more than happy to have as their neighborhood favorite. And given that it's a good but appetite enhancing walk from my place I guess that includes me. The set up looks appealing when you enter, the menu includes a few interesting options and the cakes behind the front counter look suburb, the brownies and slices up there with the best in Melbourne. Staff are friendly and its obviously well known and liked, so that I was lucky that I was able to walk straight up to an empty table on both of my visits. You've also got to respect an Elsternwick café that goes to the effort of sourcing its bread from Dench. Two meals here and the results were one acceptable if nothing standard out, and one very good. On the good side, the quinoa porridge with soy milk, poached fruit and vanilla honey yoghurt and a slice of ginger fluff spong
