Review Too Many Chiefs - Brighton

Okay.... so this coffee isn’t great. Two days in a row and it’s objectionable. First day the coffee was thin, burnt, and like I’d got it from and American road Diner in the Midwest minus the favourable slice of pecan pie. Second day a tad better. But only a tad. One thing, really cool cups. If that’s how I’d rate my experience, it’d be a 5 all day. But since it’s on taste, 2 stars. Rating purely on the coffee.

Fun little Bar with a great cocktail collection. Food was delicious as well!

I've eaten here and ordered from here online approx. 20 times. There is no consistency in the quality of the food. There is a 50% chance what you order is poor value or not quite right or a poverty version of what is pictured or described. The coffee + juices + smoothies are good

New owners. Coffee still good, but the food is terrible. Cheap ingredients, not much effort put into it. This is half my egg & bacon roll in a basic hotdog roll, dry as anything. Prices as charged don’t match menu either!

What about this place for a coffee? I would say that you need to try it even if you have to drive from Sydney. Yes a gold star and in my view one of the best coffee places in Melbourne.

This is a cool courtyard running alongside the North Brighton railway station. Great food, Great Service Cool wall art in and along train line.

I go here every weekday morning for my coffee, they remember my order and always have a chat. Great place!
Darryn Kraus
Really nice food and service. Great presentation of the smashed avocado, setting these guys apart from many other cafes! Also, the have an awesome rainbow coffee as you can see in the pictures.
Ana Margarida Ribeiro
The best place to have a healthy breakfast to grab and go or to stay and have a slow and peaceful meal in the centre of Melbourne. I love the porridge and the charcoal ou the turmeric latte, just delicious. The staff is so friendly and the space is super cosy!
Jeni Black
Fresh healthy food prepared artfully. Great range of choices on the menu. I loved the mix of delicious flavours in the hummus, spinach, citrus, pomegranate and tofu salad and my companion loved the ham and cheese bagel.

Best coffee in Melbourne , lovely staff - kid friendly and excellent outdoor setting for prams and kids can watch the trains go past ! A local favourite and come very week! ☺️
Rebekah Oksana Campbell
Delicious food, friendly staff and the rainbow lattes are cute as (also really good coffee) Will definitely be back here!

Made me feel like a regular right away, always a great experience and the food and coffee are always consistently excellent. So many things I could say. Was super excited to bring my family when they were over from New Zealand. Has just become part of daily life!

Brooks Kyllie
Great place, delicious new smoothies!! Tasty treats!! Great brunch options..
Lynne McAllister
Great coffee, the staff are friendly and try to ensure you get your train :) The new male cashier needs to loose the attitude though.
Peter Monagle
Just a great alternative cafe in stoic and at time sterile Brighton.... Real surprise for the area...
Georgina Ward Simcic
Thanks so much my hot chocolate was perfect with my brekkie slider yumo!

Sadly, they no longer have any maple syrup on the premises. So pancakes are barren sans the fruit. Be aware any Canadians and Americans who's taste buds expect and wish for maple syrup on pancakes.<br/><br/>However all the employees are quite lovely.

Friendly little cafe just next to the train station, lots of people stop by to grab coffee on the go. Açaí bowl was nice & refreshing. Eggs benny was ok. They could have been more generous with the Panko crumbed chicken in the wrap or the burger. Chips were nice.

Perfect spot for tourists I’ll say. Was with a few friends from overseas at Brighton beach before we came over here. It’s fairly close to the beach as well as to the train station which made transport easy. However it can get a little noisy when sitting next to it but my tourist friends definitely enjoyed the view. They were taking videos and photos of the train passing by and I’ll have to admit, the result is pretty good. <br/>We ordered their signature rainbow latte and charcoal latte, surely enough it looks incredible in photos!!!<br/>The food we ordered looks wonderful as well. Definitely recommend their scrambled egg, it’s a Malaysian fusion dish and it’s incredible. Not so much for the poke bowl, personally think it lacks flavor and a little boring. <br/>

Absolutely love this cafe, not so expensive, great location. The menu is great. I love the rolls, and the milkshakes are amazing. Never rated a cafe 5 stars before
Clarissa Whitehead
Too many chiefs is a lovely little station-side cafe, with a great menu spanning lots of options. The rainbow latte was pretty (definitely one to order for a picture... FYI taste wise it’s just a regular unsweetened coffee) <br/>The burger was great, non-greasy and lots of flavour!<br/>Would recommend 🙌🏽
Johnny
Lovely little cafe in Brighton, right next to North Brighton train station and across from the Palace Cinimas. Coffee was great. An interesting selections of non caffeine latte's too, I tried the Charcoal + cacao energizer... Tasty and very energizing indeed. The zucchini fritters were delicious. Staff very friendly. Will be back.
Sweetoothbrunches
This place has a very good vibe. food was very tasty and colorful, but felt that the size of the burger was small. Will definitely be back to try out more from the menu.
Bibas Basnet
One of the best cafe of the Melbourne. So amazing! Great location, friendly staffs, great quality, fresh and delicious food, great coffee, fast service! I absolutely recommend the Zuchinni Fritters, Chief avo and Biplmbap.
Mim
I had the Mediterranean panini on a beetroot panini bread and it was utterly delicious. I also had a charcoal latte with lactose free milk which tasted like hot chocolate! Yummo!

Used to live in north brighton and literally buy coffee every morning from too many chiefs for the past 2 years. Always love the friendly staff and well designed coffee cups.👍<br/><br/>HOWEVER, I finally brought mom and dad here today to show them my favorite cafe.<br/>The service is surprisingly frustrating.<br/>The girl that served us looks really unhappy.<br/>Maybe she is having a bad day, but the attitude is actually rude and makes us really uncomfortable.<br/>😞

For a wonderful eating experience this is the place to go...unlike all the generic cafes out there the food is exciting ....with great value and service as well. Don't be fooled by the casual ambience Too Many Chiefs is seriously sensational!
Stuck In Transit
I stumbled across Too Many Chief’s while in the Brighton area, so thought I would pop in for a quick coffee and bite to eat before continuing on. ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE. Located next to North Brighton Station, this small cafe is bright and airy with only a hand full of tables. I think most people grab a quick coffee from their take-away window while waiting for the train, which is probably their best feature.

This cute little cafe is right next to the station. Went in for a brekkie and have to say was not at all disappointed. We ordered the Rainbow Latte, a Mocha, Mushroom Medley and a Panko Crumbed Chicken. The food is good and loved the way the Rainbow latte looked. It tastes normal. The service is good as well. All over a good experience.
FoodieYeo
Visited this lil cafe just next to the railway tracks, famous for it's aesthetically pleasing rainbow latte! <br/>We had the banana pancakes and veggie burger. Food was great but nothing special.
Ana M. Ribeiro
So amazing!! Great location, service and the people is so friendly. The space is so beautiful, small but very cozy.<br/>The food is the most delicious ever, great quality and super fresh. <br/>I absolutely recommend the oat & chia porridge, the charcoal latte or the turmeric latte (it’s just the best).

Went down to this cafe over the weekend (Saturday) place was busy but not packed. Started with a coffee (very good) code black single origin. We all ordered poaches eggs. With a choice of sides. Not only was our roast hard and almost unchewable the eggs were absolutely disgusting. Due to the friendly staff we didn't bother to say anything. How ever this was easily the worst meal I've had in a while.

Decided to write a review based on the quality of the food, which was very mediocre. But first, the things that save this place from being a 0. The staff are quite nice and the decor / atmosphere / music is all good. The coffee is also good, definitely above average for Brighton. Had the food delivered it would have been a strong 4+. But the food was very bland, the chicken in the panini was dry and the coleslaw and sauce had no taste, the panini bread had been dyed for presentation - but the quality of flavour was not there. The mushroom medley was very poor. The mushrooms were virtually inedible and tasted like dirt and worse. The truffle and polenta were also flavourless. However the egg was poached well. Overall I'd return for coffee but not to eat here.
Tomlovestoeat
Bloody delicious. I had the red nam jim scrambled eggs and absolutely loved it. Eggs were perfect and the sausage was epic, reminded of times spent in northern Thailand at markets nibbling away on sausages (sounds crude sorry). I hardly touched my roti as I felt it was super filling without it as you get bacon too, bonus. My partner had the porridge which she also loved. Coffee was great too, we both had 2. I'm a coming back!!!!

been a long time customer here and I have to say it's one of my favourite cafes to go to in the bayside area. consistency is key and they nail it every time with their coffee and food. <br/>I had their veg burger this time around and the flavours were outstanding. <br/>the coffee is of high quality standard too. check it out next time you're on Bay Street.
Fatcat
I had the veggie burger with fries. Can confirm that it is very colourful, and as George, Gary and Matt often say, "we eat with our eyes first". Fries were delicious; burger was interestingly (but nicely) more sour than I expected. The wait for food can be a bit long if in a big group, but otherwise nice decor and very peaceful.
Corinn Crawford
Delicious peanut butter pancakes and really really good coffee. Would highly recommend this place for a casual weekend brunch or take away coffee.
Lachlan Mcpherson
Awesome coffee, great service and hot baristas. Had the ultra greens and it was so yum. Can't really fault the way the go about it such a good spot
Vanessa Gornall
My favourite cafe in the world. Coffee is amazing & the food is really nice. I come here every weekend with my friends and we always have a great time. Would recommend to anyone in the area! X
Beatriz Ribeiro
I came all the way from Portugal just to try their beautiful Rainbow coffee. <br/>The best part is everything is great, besides the colourful one any coffee is amazing, not to talk about the food, the best for a brekkie break. <br/>Recommend it 100%
Brad
Had breakfast with 3 friends Sunday, food was amazing and staff were good. Coffee was the best I've had in a long time<br/>Would highly recommend

Went here due to its famous rainbow latte art coffee.<br/>Love the food, love the coffee, nice service, a great place to escape from the city. :)

The coffee is delicious, with a simple and yummy menu, and is topped off with really lovely staff! There is something oh so Melbourne about this cafe, a nice little gem.

Immediately acknowledged at the door with a smile. Seated menus and water immediately. A well styled cafe! Loved those chairs and so smart the way the cutlery is hanging. Had to get a rainbow coffee I had heard heaps about! Service here is so quick! Loved the coffee by the way for all reasons! The pancakes were so great! If you like banana and peanut butter you will love these. Such a generous serving size
Cookie Monster
Delicious! Order the Poke Bowl!<br/>It's full of all the good stuff, avocado, brown rice, lots of healthy vegetables and still somehow is perfectly balanced in flavours and super filling!<br/><br/>I would like to try it with tofu or maybe an egg next time.<br/><br/>Thanks Chiefs.

Good coffee, wide variety of reading material, cute decor, very convenient location near the train, with a take away window for commuters. Staff are efficient and friendly!
YumYum
Well didn't start well.. <br/>first time at this cafe and I've been wanting to try it out for a very long time. They have good reviews and the coffees were mentioned in the media with the new rainbow coffee trends....<br/><br/>I booked a table online and received a confirmation. When I asked the staff they did not know anything about a booking however still said they would look into it. Lucky we found a table for 4 on a busy Saturday.<br/><br/>Coffee wise- I'm a huge coffee lover so tried their golden latte and regular latte and it was really good.<br/><br/>Food- I don't know what happened to the staff that day but was a train wreck.. my friend ordered the green breakfast and he didn't get a poached egg.. it then came later in a separate bowl after we asked. My other friend asked for the chia pudding and did not get cutlery to eat. I ordered their famous scrambled eggs with roti and was served eggs with toast. I had to ask about the roti? Which came later again in separate bowl. Mind you I had asked at the time of my order whether it was a wrap dish or separate roti. <br/><br/>They apologised however it's not a very good feeling when numerous things get missed.<br/><br/>The fact that it's close to the station is great to get there easily and take away coffee but sitting outside with the noise of trains passing wasn't great as we had to yell for conversation. <br/><br/>Overall a bit disappointing. Coffee is good though so I would probably just get take away. It's such a shame as my friends and I really like brunch and I was hoping this could be a regular spot.
Gordon
Coffee was disappointing ordered a long mac in a glass & got something resembling a latte in a cup. Used to be first rate. Won't be rushing back there

Not sure if some of the people reviewing this cafe are talking about the same place. I've been here a few times and the food is amazing as is the coffee. Their menu is varied, reasonably priced and on trend ...e.g....from acai smoothie bowls to fish tacos and everything in between. They even have ciabatta type rolls for those wanting something traditional . Its coffee is from Code Black roasters, which is my absolute fave coffee...and which has been pretty good every time I've had it here. If the service is a little hit and miss...who cares...its not fine dining. I've had no problem with the service .I just wish this place was a lot closer to where I live as I'd go there every day.

The guy who took payment today as I struggled with a baby could barely be civil... is it that hard to be polite I am paying you money??? Coffee was good but this ruined the whole experience
Cpwaz
Good coffee and while I had a simple breakfast it was good. Staff friendly but a bit useless. I ordered a coffee at the start which they forgot about. Then when I ordered another coffee after my food, another waiter forgot that too.
Emma Littler
Great coffee, very nice breakfast options, friendly relaxed service and well priced. They're open late for dinner a couple of nights in the week which we'll definitely be back for
Ilovefood
Love love love the coffee here, the staff are always smiling and say have a nice day. The other day I bought a spicy veg toastie for $6.50. It was literally 2 slices of tip top white bread with 3 mushrooms, 2 cubes of pumpkin, Siracha sauce and cheese. WHAT A RIP! They should just fork out the money, buy great sourdough and charge $8! Will never get a toastie again, however coffee is good.
Chronicles Of Nardia
One of my all time favourite cafes! <br/>Consistently fabulous coffee, friendly staff & impressive food. <br/>Great location, funky decor & atmosphere & fast service! <br/>Massive fan of Too Many Chiefs! 🙌💗🙌

Had to check out the awesome rainbow coffee at this cute little cafe, which is open at night for dinner with a license ✔️. Smashed the signature dish Chief scrambled eggs with mushrooms and my boy loved the Prawn tacos 🌮 with spicy chard corn and cucumber salsa 🙌

The family and I took mum here for her birthday brekky. A great little place which does a lot with a small space. It's a great location and the outdoor seating looks fantastic with the awning. I had the ago smash which was an interesting blend of beetroot, Abi, goats cheese and pine it crumble with an additional egg on top. Fantastic blend of taste, my only grudge would be that one piece of toast was not enough. The rest of the fam had the porridge and the sirracha scrambled eggs. All were very happy with there choices. I also had a rainbow latte, which tasted just as good as a normal latte but with extra sparkle. Looking forward to coming here again and sitting outside in the sunshine.
Baysidefoodie
Good coffee and great value food,<br/>Small but cosy, outdoor on street, good pot for times when no train pass through, otherwise is too noisy.

A place can make it or break it for me with service. From the time I arrive, unless a crazy busy Sunday, do not want to wait. <br/><br/>Lucky TMC was within a minute (yeah I have an issue with time as at birth I was induced!!!). <br/><br/>In order. Green juice which was very green & I could feel muscles rippling from all the goodies in it. 5/5<br/><br/>Macchiato 4.5/5. Now my partner is harsh with her scoring so must be good coffee. <br/><br/>Prawn tacos w fat chips/aioli. Two really lovely small soft tacos with big prawn & spicy salsa in each w a salad as well. Very good. We shared so I was wishing there was more. Chips & aioli were some of the best I've had. <br/><br/>I need to try their rainbow latte or chai next time.
Jimmy Chew Food
Nice little cosy spot to have breakfast. The sriracha infused scrambled eggs are really yummy, but I recommend sharing because it's an incredibly generous serve with tons of meat. Watch your cholesterol with this one >.<<br/>The potato roesti was also very good, perhaps just a bit overly crispy, but it went nicely together with the salad, poached egg and hollandaise. The total reformation bone broth was an interesting one. Very strong, rich flavour, cooked for a very long time I would think. Hearty, but I doubt you'd want to eat anything on the heavy side afterwards. Nice smoothies, nice carrot cake, nice decor. The girl who served us was lovely too. Was so hungry and forgot to take photos sadly :/
Hungry Vego
Love a hipster cafe. This place had all the usual ingredients - nice space and decor (although a smallish amount of seating), good menu and coffee options. The superfood salads had great flavour and loved generous portions of pomegranate. I was disappointed with the chai - quite weak and the barista seemed a bit more interested in his social activities than getting us served. Generally pleasant service though.

I googled rainbow coffee and this one comes first. the rainbow coffee looks very nice but taste just like normal coffee. food is average. but I don't recommend the beans. not my cup of tea. too much spice. good place for snap.

Another great cafe in Brighton. Previously POD, this cafe has been nicely renovated. The food is healthy and delicious. My favourite Is the bone broth with chicken and veggies, great on a cold winters day. Coffee is great and service is always with a smile.

Great food, great coffee great addition to the bay st local precinct and I loved the yummy sweet treats near the cash register to tempt me on the way out!

Ever had a rainbow latte?  Beetroot latte? Well, come to Too Many Chiefs and you'll get exactly that! We saw this phenomenon on the news and just had to check it out. A bit sceptical about the taste, but once we sipped, we sipped and sipped until 4-5 coffees were downed within 30 minutes.<br/><br/>The lunch was equally good. I had the beef burger which was one of the best I ever had. The ocean trout brekkie with eggs was quite unique in itself and we had to stare at it for 1 minute before getting the courage to break it all apart!<br/><br/>Great venue, great cafe, great coffee, great food and great service!
Warren Cooksley
The best a cafe could possibly be. Great food and healthy too! Great prices and friendly staff. Tried the beetroot latte and i gotta say its my fav! Definitely will be back

Excellent modern brunch cafe located conveniently near Brighton train station at Bay Street. Great service, cozy & kids friendly cafe w beautiful deco. Love their menu especially the son in law egg w cured salmon and crispy potato rosti w bacon + well brewed coffee and soy chai latte. Highly recommend if you live near Brighton area to try!Just appeared  on Ten news today, innovative coffee w matcha, tumeric, beetroots flavours to choose from..well done TMC!
Love All Good Food
This cafe is the best cafe so far in bay st, with details of everything, from decor of the cafe to the food in plates.<br/>No many places will be found doing like this around the area.<br/>If I would say another place similar, that will be chi around the corner of Asling St, though they are doing modern Asian food, but yet dedicated with every dish with presentation on plate.<br/>Good to see more of this gem places coming to bay st.
Vegieface
Ordered a takeaway coffee and a spicy veg & goats cheese sandwich. Coffee was good, sandwich was GREAT - the cheese had melted and become one with the spicy sauce on the veggies. <br/>However, staff were somewhat unwelcoming. No smiles, no polite chitchat while I waited, just "that's $10.50" and hands me my change and walks off. <br/>Based on that sandwich, I'd be happy to return and sit down and eat. <br/>(I won't rate higher than a 3.5 because I only tried one thing)
Nan Middleditch
Had one of my best breakfasts ever.  Scrambled eggs on sourdough toast with wild mushrooms, roast walnuts, rocket and meredeth goats cheese. It was delightful. I'll be back again. Also great coffee.
Jesse Hastie
Amazing! Had the best breakfast with my girlfriend and we loved this place. Their coffee is unbeatable in the south/east, not to mention the service. Thanks guys.

What a great place for brunch!! So many delicious healthy food options and great smoothies and coffee to die for. I had the avocado smash with beetroot relish. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other food as it all looks amazing!!

Been coming here for a while now, food is unreal and coffee to die for. Renovations make the place feel alive again, perfect (new) addition to Bay Street. 💕
Lauren Bertuch
Best smashed avo going around! Great spot for your morning breakky or even just a coffee. Staff are always so friedly with the biggest smiles. Highly recommended l
Kelly Greig-burrows
Had the pork belly. Beautiful presentation. The flavors where well balanced can't wait to try the rest of the dishes. The renovations give the place a new life
Jb
along with omar's in gardenvale this place is doing the best coffee in the area at the momentI believe this used to be another venue that has had a remodelling/new ownership... whichever it is I definitely approve it<br/>yet to eat here but have heard from a couple locals that the food is nice
Peter Nuisance
Had the Smashed avacado ... I know everybody does it but hey it's one of my favourite brekkies .., this was really awesome and different ...will be back very soon ... Excellent coffee and friendly staff

Have been looking for a good breaky place on Bay St forever and finally found it at Too Many Chiefs. Had the smashed avo and a beautifully made piccolo latte. Definitely going back.
