Review Siriphen Thai - Brighton

J Maschy
Wow. I will never ever ever purchase anything from this restaurant again. Placed an order at 5:30pm with a quick delivery time given. Food arrived cold and soggy at 7:45. Obviously had been sitting around for a couple of hours. I feel like the restaurant stole my $80+ So disappointing. The entrees and salad are all inedible 😐 Oh yeah, and there was a piece of plastic in the chicken massman. SHAME ON YOU SIRIPHEN THAI

Along with 9-10 other patrons (Monday 18th April 2022) who made online orders, some waited 45mins-1hr+ for their orders. Staff were not unapologetic about the situation, if fact they were impossible to find. This Is not the first time either, reviews on TripAdvisor mention the same. Obviously making money by understaffing. Not taking anymore of my cash that’s for sure. Cannot review food quality as I already had a bad taste in my mouth after that experience.

What a shame. We have been ordering food from Siriphen Thai for years but lately the food has been sub par, no flavour and undercooked, it just feels rushed. We’ve always given places a second chance because everyone has their off days but this was very underwhelming for the 3rd time in a row. We wont be ordering again.
Sticks Forks & Others
I ordered via Uber Eats, so I can’t comment on the restaurant or service. Ordered the pad tai and tom yang and both were really good. I reckon it would have been much better at the restaurant right out of the kitchen, but no complaints. The pad tai noodles were firm in a good way, without being too soft, which often happens when not eaten quickly. And I was a bit concerned that the tom yang would get cold during the delivery process, but it was nice and hot. Granted I live only a block away, but still a good meal. Update: I also ordered the fried rice with beef, and quite frankly, it’s a BIG hit or miss. The first time, the rice was firm and hot. It had the “made from fresh rice” taste that’s familiar to rice eaters. The second time, however, the rice was soggy as if it had been sitting around a bit or re-fried. No firmness or texture to it. The grains didn’t have the firmness that you’d expect in a freshly fried rice dish. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I’ll be looking for a different Thai place from now on.

Used to be the best food on bay st. Quality has taken a very noticeable dive post lockdown. Hoping for a bounce back soon guys.

Got home late from Brisbane looking for a place to eat at about 9 pm. Others in street were shut but these guys were excellent as usual.

Papaya salad is amazing. Staff friendly and attentive. Seafood dishes very nice especially the rockling on fire! Beef here not as good as other meats. Is often quite tough.

Absolutely delicious. Near the train station and great, high quality Thai food. Really love going here

3rd visit ... srsly the best Thai food i have eaten. Tonight the place was packed.. food always great flavour. Prompt service and staff are caring & on point.

Ordered a take away this evening and was extremely disappointed to find small pieces of meat in my 'vegetarian' green curry. Will not be ordering from this restaurant again. Luckily there are heaps of other Thai restaurants in the area to choose from!

Buay, Pun, and the chefs were amazing! Chicken curry puff, pork dumplings, red beef curry, egg noodles, beef peanut dish. All amazing!

Second visit was just as good as the first!! Delicious 'modern Thai'...the Panang curry is to die for...ďż˝ Great vibe, excellent service, prompt & friendly. Also loved the way the windows opened on the warm night...great to know coming up to Summer ...I look forward to coming back very soon.

3rd visit it's like being in Thailand excellent food friendly service

The food is too tame to my taste. I suspect it is toned down to suit those people who can't really taste hot and spicy food. Servings were reasonable size.
Gina Tsalikis
Food is amazing even the service !!! We'll be back !!!
Maddy Dart
Delicious food and reasonably priced. The Penang curry and the papaya salad are a standout.

The owner was an extremely rude person. First thing we asked the waiter was what was and what was not on zomato gold. We were not informed properly on what was and what was not on gold. When we disputed the receipt she was extremely condescending and rude. If you're going to treat your zomato gold patrons like beggars then don't put your restaurant on gold. Horrible experience, spoilt our Saturday night.
Steph
Surprisingly good Thai restaurant in the North Brighton area. Zomato Gold is only valid when you order a least 1 main item.

Ordered:
Green Curry Duck $18.9 🍲
Tom Yum Prawns $18.9 🍤
Jasmine Rice $3 🍚

Green Curry Duck 🍲 Honestly have never tried duck in Thai food, the dish turned out to be surprisingly good. Very generous portion of duck provided. The duck tasted good, plus it wasn't too chewy or hard. The green curry is good, as expected - not too watery.

Tom Yum Prawns 🍤 Definitely overpriced for the amount of ingredients in the soup with the corresponding price. Just a pathetic 5-6 prawns in the soup with a few slices of tomato. Other than that, the soup did taste good.

Service 👎🏻Worst service ever. All staff had really black face, very unwilling to serve us 🌚 We were literally waving at the waiter to take our order but they just pretended that we were invisible and literally just ignored us. It also took them quite a while to serve the food, longer than usual wait. Upon heading to the counter to pay & informing the cashier we were on Zomato Gold, she said she did not believe us and even asked us to point out which waiter we informed. Lucky the waiter confirmed it.Price: A lil on the pricy side considering its in a suburb area, would have expected it being $2-3 cheaper per dish.

Only giving it 3 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ due to the terrible service, otherwise a 4.
To Eat Or Not To Eat
Food is great as always, however, the worst service and attitude I have ever experienced from one particular female staff who took our order and got it wrong. After letting her know she brought us the wrong drink, she begrudgingly took it back and slammed the correct drink onto the table. She then stopped serving our table and would walk past staring angrily at us. Very unprofessional and disappointing for an otherwise great Thai restaurant in the area.

Edit: since my first visit 2 months ago this has been my go to spots. The food is always consistently great and the staff are always so lovely too. Highly recommend any and everything. Maybe reserve a seat though as it seems to be a packed house everytime I come.
TravellingFoodie
Unexpectedly good for a Brighton Thai - not watered down like some others in the area. Nice ambience, food is 4/5, service 3/5 as it's hard to catch attention and the staff don't come around very often. 'Spicy' on the menu is actually spicy enough to make me sweat. Not all dishes are eligible for Zomato Gold.
Love-my-food
Authentic Thai restaurant on Bay Street brighton. Food portion is good and authentic flavours. Kids Friendly restaurant with good service. Will be back again.

The food was delicious but we had an issue with our bill and staff were not very helpful. It was Saturday evening and they could not resolve the issue. They may need some training on how to deal with customer complaints. Besides that, it was a great setting and we enjoyed our meals. It was just a pity the bill situation at the end tainted our whole experience.

Staff are polite and friendly, flat rice noodle was great. Panang curry was awesome and the portion of curry is very generous. Outside table are clean! =]

Perfect restaurant if you are looking for that Thai menu which is not the usual Trio of curries, and Satay based starters.
To begin with , you have a wide range of entrees , with specials changing weekly – featuring trendy ingredients such as charcoal , beetle leaves, and exotic broths with unique combinations of silky dumpling fillings .

As well as having the regular Thai curries (Chu chee or Red is my favourite here) , there are options which aren’t featured at this cuisine’s restaurants.

The warm and friendly staff are willing to modify dishes to suit dietary requirements or personal taste.

The interior is cosy , clean and modern . Perfect restaurant for a weeknight dinner out or a catchup with friends .
I had dinner here tonight for the fourth time. It was very busy with a good buzz Again the food was fantastic along with the service. Will be back again.

My first ever review, felt so disrespected so felt I had to. The Tom yum was alright but the service is horrible. I walked in no greeting or smile, felt unwelcomed. Looks like they have the 'Brighton effect'. Maybe if you came in wearing a suit they'll bend over for you so to speak. You'll be worth a smile.
Victoria M
really wonderful Thai food, I’d say the best in bayside, staff are all very polite and accommodating!! And something on the menu for everyone!
Tasting Melbourne
Would give 3.5 stars if it was possible......but solely on the food quality. The service isn't great. Our waitress appeared confused, kept messing up our order and kept walking away without answering us or acknowledging that she'd heard us. Despite this, the food is fantastic and I'll definitely return. The pork tacos are a standout.
Mengyao Liu
Food was good but we waited for at least 40mins for that and 20mins for the dessert. Too many takeaways and Ubereats really keep the kitchen super busy.

Give this one a miss. I’ve been here 3 times over a few years. I’m a local to brighton. 3 strikes and you’re out! Snooty management, my main meal was entre size and they charged me a surcharge for water.
Surcharge wasn’t much but it just said something about the place that left me cold. For a 25 cent surcharge, they’ve lost a customer or two.
Penny wise, pound fooooolish I’d say!
I had to go home for a dinner top up.
Food was tasty enough but I would have been happier at the noodle shop just down the street as regards to value. Though this place is popular, the food is quite tasty but there are better Thai places in the area.
Venkeileo
Just amazing, it’s a treat of flavors, the service is good, it caters for all dietary and for vegetarians there is a lots of vegetarian option.
Only feed back would be would like to see more organic or herbal tea and just the tea bags

Great Thai place for lunch or for dinner. Good staff and service. Dessert was okay but the food was amazing. It had the perfect flavour and gives you a good feel.
Charlotte Cooper
The food is delicious, more of a combination of Thai and western style, it’s not very authentic Thai food it it’s a good feed
Really really good service, just remember to book a table

We went for lunch and were blown away by the amazing food, lovely ambience and friendly staff. I am a big fan of the Thai Cuisine and this restaurant has raised the bar, by far one of the best Thai Restaurants I've been to. Will visit again!

The food here is very good. We had carnivores and vegetarians at our table, and all were satisfied with the taste, the service and the price. I can highly recommend this eatery.

I have never tasted a good thai food in Melbourne until i came into this restaurant. They serve really authentic thai food that taste just like the food back in Thailand! I would come back regularly again.

Amazing food. The fruity duck curry was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever tried, and the tom yum soup and soft shell crab were amazing too. Will definitely be back!

What an amazing place in Brighton. The Thai was the best Thai I've had in melbourne. The staff were also amazing. Cant wait to go back again !!

Delicious Thai food, consistent quality and always busy. Highly recommended and a regular favourite of mine. Rockling on fire or beetle leaf get my vote!
Kirban Sparrowhawk
The best Thai in the area. Authentic flavours a nd good value for money. Love all the options a nd the variety. Gets crowded on the weekend which can only be a good sign.

Siriphen Thai had a lot of yummy Thai food on the menu. The service was very good and the food was reasonably good. I had quite a good experience but I think I've had better tasting Thai food before.
Shar Buendia
I really love their Tom Yum. The papaya salad is a must try. The service may be slow at times because they can get full and busy but the food is totally worth everything.
Roshanak Samadirad
Great food, so tasty, good service, just accommodated us in the back of restaurant, far from the ambience, although we had booked in advance.
Lou
I have eaten here a number of time now and have always great food! Very casual dining with tasty curries! Awesome for take out if you find it a little too loud inside
John Murray
Disgraceful. Noisy. Poor service with wait staff unable to speak English and all dishes served at once.Dishes
preheated and then put in microwave. If you want a dining experience this is not the place. It's a barn!

When this restaurant used to be Madeira, it was much calmer than it is now. Admittedly I went on a Saturday night, but it was LOUD and crammed. They have placed so many tables in here, that not only must it be a fire hazard, but skinny people could barely navigate their way out through the maze when their meal was finished. While I'm not that old yet, the noise level was not conducive to socialising with friends or family, as it's impossible to hear anything people at your table are saying to you.
It's that same noise level that probably made it hard for the wait staff to think clearly. While they took our order relatively well (with an error or two that was established and corrected before she went to the kitchen), they weren't overly attentive when checking if tables needed more water, or finding out if people wanted to place a drinks order, or needed anything else. Food came out very hickilty pickilty and by the time my entree came out, everyone else had finished theirs. This is one thing I cannot stand about Thai restaurants; they can almost never bring out everyone's meals at the same time.
Having said all of that … The food is delicious. It came out as ordered, with any and all modifications done correctly. I had the fish sliders and the Chew Chi Salmon as my main. Both were very, very good and unique in flavouring. I love that Siriphen Thai has a few different things on their menu than other Thai places. Everyone at my table was happy with their order and we were all so full, there was no room for dessert. Thankfully by the time we were leaving, the restaurant had cleared out a bit, so we could exit without giving people at other tables an up close view of our butts as we squeezed past.
Overall, I'd definitely come back here again. I would try it on a weeknight when I'm sure it's calmer (it's also near a movie theatre complex, so I imagine they're busier just before some of the showings). It's definitely worth the driving around in circles for parking just to order that delicious salmon again.

Much better than average for suburban Thai food. The crispy pork they use in some dishes is excellent. The curries are good. Not too sweet but too much coconut milk and not enough meat and veg. Stir fries are better in my opinion. Coconut rice is good.

My partner and I really enjoyed this place. Everything tasted fresh and was really well flavoured. My partner got flat rice noodles with crispy pork, which was delicious, and cooked perfectly. My sliders (crispy pork and soft shell crab) were similarly lovely. My partner also got roti which was cooked perfectly and was crispy and flakey and sauce was nice too.

Food is quite good but we were totally forgotten as a party of 8 when we were in the "back room".
Yes it was busy but isn't that what reservations are all about? You generally know your numbers and plan service and waiting staff around that... don't you?
Not a good place for a group.
Mouthwatering red curry, deliciously crunchy roti, and yummy pork dumplings. My partner loved the beef pad that. Our new favourite in Brighton.
Melbourne Glutton
Only opened a few months ago, Siriphen has quickly grown to become a local favorite. With an menu featuring many classic Thai dishes, and familiar flavours, Siriphen will bring both comfort and satisfaction.

Amazing! We have had Thai from every Thai place between Elwood and black Rock and this one tops them all! Be sure to get the duck and pineapple curry, the steamed buns with soft shell crab, the dumplings - so juicy, and the lamb shank massaman. Will be going here again and again and fingers crossed it doesn't change

Awesome!!! Lovely tom kha. So fresh and tangy with the lime. The veggie dumplings are awesome! Not what we expected, they were soft and juicy with a great chewy texture. Had a great veggie dish with noodles on the side and the roti was beautiful and flakey. Couldn't fault anything that we ate and everything was a reasonable price. Maybe a new favourite!

2018 Feb:Drop by again for lunch on Sunday, food is just as good. If you want to chillex, here is the place for afternoon lunch..but during dinner. They will get really busy, if u cant get a place, maybe call for delivery. I saw delivery men came in to collect meals. Really great place. Love their Lemon steam fish.
2016:Had a great party with my family and friends there. All of us loved the food. I basically cleaned up the whole fried fish myself. Beautiful food, well seasoned and cook. Service is very good. Love the atmosphere.

This place is amazing! I love the food and the service is great! Do yourselves a favour go have dinner here! This little gem nestled amongst the snobs in Brighton is well worth a visit! Very well priced and the food is so good wow cannot fault second visit!

Great addition to the Bay Street and general Brighton / Bayside dining scene. The food is really good and the service was excellent. They couldn't do enough to help us! The restaurant is very family friendly. They had plenty of high chairs as well as lovely touches like plastic cups and plates for the kids. I'll definitely be going back to eat in and takeaway!

Amazing thai food and excellent service. I had the beef salad, the beef was cooked to perfection, seasoned just right and beautifully presented. The restaurant has a very intimate setting. And the excellent service, enhanced to whole experience. I definitely recommend trying this restaurant.

This restaurant has just recently opened and we were very pleased with our first visit. Their menu is just a little bit different to the standard Thai which was refreshing and the prices are very reasonable including drinks. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the staff very attentive and friendly. We will be coming back again very soon. Plenty of GF options too.
Jojo
Great food and great service. We love the atmosphere of the restaurant. My favourite place in Melbourne and a very warm welcome from the girls. Fruity duck curry is to die for. Thumbs up.
