Review The Little Ox - Brighton

Nelly
Very friendly staff. Good coffee. Eggs Benny are great, loved the crumpet, maybe a small portion for a guy, but just right for me. Mushroom mixed also very nice. Will come back since the menu had many other great options.

Thought we’d try somewhere new for us and local-ish. A bit close to their kitchen closing but they let us squeeze our lunch order in. The chicken sandwich was good and messy and the chips were seriously tasty. Coffee and staff were 👍 Accessibility info: standard seating outside, no steps at the threshold.

Quick bite at this local cafe after a site visit nearby. Nice sandwich and coffee.

"Tucked away" in a lonesome part of Brighton - as far as cafes and stores go - is The Little Ox. It's in an area much more conducive to finding good parking, and has a nice, welcoming feeling to it on the inside. I came here today on a warm, sunny day, and they have a big outdoor seating area, and plenty of room on the inside, with big wide open windows to make you feel part of the outside still. They have a great all day menu full of your favourites, and a good selection for lunch. Admittedly, I really only ordered a salmon Eggs Benny, which yes, is something I can make at home, but it was still presented well and these things always taste better when someone else makes it for you (though I would have had a side of butter with mine if I knew how dry the toast was going to be). I had a Mango Smoothie too, and that was nice, though the passionfruit inside it, almost overtook in flavour. Everyone at my table LOVED their coffees, and their burger and Ruebin sandwich were apparently great too. Overall this was a great lunch outing. I can't really fault it at all. All well priced and everything tasted good and was presented nicely. I had been wanting to come here for a while now, so I'm glad I finally got the chance and would highly recommend it.

Little Ox is our favourite local!! Staff are friendly and attentive and food and coffee are excellent. Wife is a HUGE fan of the chilli scrambled eggs, and for me poached eggs with all the sides or Eggs Benedict. We are a tad lazy, so most Sundays (and some week days) we get home delivery via Ubereats and the food travels well! Highly recommend!!

Brekkie burger was AMAZING. Also great cold brew coffee!

Great delicious brunch, full of flavour. Strong coffee.

Appreciate your follow up 2 months later. Consistent with the service. Also if your going to call yourself ‘the little ox’ at least try and live up to the creatures hard working reputation..

Went for lunch with a friend at The Little Ox. Vegan and vegetarian options available. Extensive menu that gives you a variety of choice. <br/>🍽 garden of eden (minus mayo) - nicely poached egg with sautéed pumpkin on soft fluffy pumpkin toast. <br/>Chilli scramble - large serve of scrambled eggs with chorizo, tomatoes and bacon. Very filling. <br/>💁‍♀️ friendly arrive. Our waitress was extremely helpful. However, they forgot our coffee order and therefore was not 10/10 service.

The Iced soy Latte is perfect for a Summer’s day – they serve great coffee! <br/><br/>The Garden of Eden was exactly what I wanted. The broccolini and roasted pumpkin were cooked perfectly and I loved the flavour combo – avocado, beetroot hummus, broad beans, marinated tomato, and a poached egg. The Sweet Corn Fritters are also delicious – nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. <br/><br/>The service was really good even though they were quite busy. And we sat outside since we had a dog with us.
Good Food Good Mood
We visited Little Ox for Boxing Day brunch today which is a cute little cafe in Brighton. I had the smashed avo and given I’m not a fan of halloumi asked if it were possible to swap this for something, fresh tomato was suggested and was a yummy switch. I enjoyed my breakfast and we also had two salads (a lamb and a chicken) as well as the chilli scramble which everyone seemed happy with. A public holiday surcharge but that’s to be expected. Coffee also impressed

I have been visiting The Little Ox for years now and have very rarely been disappointed. <br/><br/>There food is beautifully presented and the staff are friendly. <br/><br/>Also, a recent renovation has made the café extremely warm, green and inviting.

4.5<br/>We called into The Little Ox today for an early brunch on a fine winters day. This cafe has had a change of ownership 1 month ago, the third in its 10 years history and new father and daughter team are keen to make the little ox their own and will shortly be releasing a new seasonal menu. <br/><br/>We enjoyed our St Ali orthodox coffees, served piping hot and creamy, I even had a choice of almond milks whilst ordering. We ordered the breakfast burger with chunky chips and Warrior Açaí Bowl.<br/><br/>Our meals arrived in record speed, my açaí bowl was adorned with the most fragrant passionfruit half and all the combination of ingredients from fresh fruit to the peanut butter and coyo worked perfectly together.  I must say I found the granola a spectacularly crunchy mix and loved that fact it didn’t have goji berries in it, I didn’t have to spend my breakfast avoiding them and relished every mouthful. <br/><br/>The breakfast burger arrived with a generous serve of bacon, wonderful field mushrooms full of flavour (that I could eat by the bowl full) a lovely smokey relish bring all the flavours together, the side of chunky chips were yum and I think the dish would be the perfect hangover cure. <br/><br/>A great local cafe with a good amount of table space and some friendly welcoming service.

This used to be my favourite cafe in Brighton, however the quality of food has really diminished over time. The cafe is really tired and needs a revamp. The menu looks amazing, but the flavors of the food really do not compare. Furthermore, the coconut milk used in my turmeric latte was sour ... <br/>This is such a shame because the service is great.
WillAfon
Awesome cafe located in Brighton. Had the chilli scramble and beef burger. Scrambled eggs were delicious and the bacon in the burger was unbeatable.

Visited The Little Ox cafe last week and was very impressed. The food, service and decor of the cafe was all fantastic. We tried the chilli scrambled eggs, the breakfast burger and the cheeseburger as well as a juice and smoothie. The standout was definitely the breakfast burger, a great balance of texture and flavour. The potato rosti and bacon provided a nice salty crunch which worked well with the creaminess of the avocado and runny egg yolk! The scrambled eggs were beautiful as well, with just the right amount of spice.<br/>All the staff were very friendly and made the experience one to remember. Will definitely be back!

A small coffeeshop in a quiet Brighton neighbourhood. We came here with a group of 10 on a Saturday afternoon and the staff seemed surprised if not slightly annoyed, not sure why, probably they are not used to cater big groups. I had the wagyu burger, portion is big but it wasn’t exceptional. Coffee was okay too. The service is a little bit rushed.
Foodinfocusz
A popular café for the Brighton folk and surrounds. The Little Ox has a good vibe, service friendly and the dishes we had were good. Need to try their coffee next time also more off their menu!.
Esra
Excellent coffee! I came here for the first time on a beautiful sunny day and received the best service I’ve ever had in any Melbourne cafe!! The staff here are super lovely and down to earth... the seating outside is awesome, and the coffee is fantastic! <br/><br/>However, upon visiting a second time, I decided to sit inside and it was incredibly stuffy!! I’m not sure if they have aircons. The service this time around was much slower, and the coffee wasn’t very good. I had to ask for a new one, and waited another 15-20 minutes. <br/><br/>I haven’t visited since, but do hope to give it another try considering my excellent first experience.
Brunch Queen 👑
Previously where I found my favourite corn fritters. <br/><br/>I have been here a few times before and fell in love with their corn fritters. I actually couldn’t find a place that did corn fritters better. However when I revisited this brunch spot on the weekend their fritters had sadly changed to a battered version styled up with quinoa and less flavour. It was alright but now I’m on the hunt for my replacement of Best corn fritters.

Cute little cafe tucked away in Brighton. The Little Ox delivered on your usual brunch expectations with creativity and deliciousness. The service was fast, which was nice considering they were busy. Food was presented well and tasted good.
Frances Mona
Cute cafe with friendly service. Coffee very good ! <br/>Service wise - my Buddha bowl came without an egg.. apologised and the plan was to bring one out but it was forgotten again til I mentioned it another 15minutes later. Love the menu .. food is okay nothing amazing to rave about but would definitely return and try out more on the menu
DareToBeRead
3.5 Would I return? If in the area, but wouldn’t necessarily make a special trip. <br/>I have a thing for avo, eggs and bacon and so tend to go for this classic brunch option. Good portion size, lightly salted avo and runny eggs which is what you want. Also, bread is important people, and this bread was particularly good. Each of us enjoyed our casual brunch in this small but bright cafe.
Rachel
Tried this place place for the first time today & it did not disappoint!! Today's breakkie the mushroom medley with smoked salmon which was really yummy. Quick service & reasonably priced. Will be back!
Fusspot
Light & bright , spacious cafe with delicious , well priced meals , friendly and efficient service. Coffee is fantastic too. Can't ask for more .<br/><br/>Keep up the great coffee , food , and attentive service :)

Went for breakfast today for first time. Not that busy just after 9 on a work day. <br/><br/>Ordered coffee on arrival and given menu. 7 min wait for coffee to be dumped and waitress to run. Had to pull another waitress to order breakfast which was also slow coming - mashed pea bruschetta was ok but under-seasoned. <br/><br/>Coffee ok but not special.
AmyBurns12
Absolutely adored this place! Brought my puppy and the staff were so hospitable to her, gave us water and an extra dish for her to have some nibbles<br/><br/>The food was AMAZING had the Buddha bowl and the fritters. Every bite was delicious! <br/>10/10 for food and lovely staff I’ve never left a cafe feeling so happy! <br/>

I've been coming here for years and really love this cafe.  It's always got interesting options on the menu and friendly service.  It is always very busy (which shows its popularity) but can mean you need to wait for a table during peak periods.  It tends to get very noisy in side when all the windows are closed, so outside is always a good option if the weather allows.  Food is great and always changing which is nice - not just the usual smashed avocado!
EatToLive
Clearly one of the most popular cafes in Brighton. Small but packed with quality. St Ali coffee is one of my favorite roasters out there. Service is nice and friendly. Get in early is the best option I would recommend. We have been trying a lot of dishes over years and most of them are fantastic. 👍
Willtravelforfood17
Great and friendly service here. A little squishy for people with prams but we managed. I was feeling healthy and had the acai bowl which was so delicious! It had texture and crunch from the toasty granola and sweetness from the banana and sourness from the yoghurt and acai berries and green apple and strawberries. My friends had the specials which they all enjoyed. After that we all went to the beach which was nearby!
Massivebird
Staff very friendly and helpful. My gf had the waffle and apple something or rather, it was below average. I had mushroom medley, too much garlic in the purée but decent aside from that, maybe a little small. Coffee was average to below for me.
KITCHFIT
Came here to get a little bit of work done and for a bite to eat. The service was great of the bat. A lovely welcome at the door and attended to with a smile. <br/>I had the rosti and my partner had the omelette special. I did he try the omelette also, and it had an odd burnt flavour, probably a little residue from the pan it was cooked in. Besides that, food was delicious.<br/>
Serina Tanaka
Omg loved the special "brekky bruschetta"!! It was so good, should have it on their permanent menu. Also the brekky burger chips was 👌🏼👌🏼 would definitely come here again, maybe not order the matcha latte though 😅
Split The Bill
You seriously can never go wrong with the food here! Not only is the food delicious but it is also a work of art 😍 would recommend the golden coconut turmeric latte for something a little adventurous 😁
Caro
Friendly service and great coffee. I ordered the 3 grain porridge which was more like soup than porridge, far too runny. Disappointing as previously the porridge they had on the menu was perfect.
Ella P
After years of brunching at Little Ox, I still love it! There is so much range in the menu so there's something for everyone's taste. The service has always been great as well as the coffee.
Alan V
The Little Ox is a nice little cafe with quite good food and nice St. Ali coffee. It's nice to live locally to a place like this. The staff are always very nice.
Joanne
4.1 rating on Zomato and St. Ali Roasters got my eyes. Disappointed with the Almond Latte I have ordered. The coffee was split n I asked the barista why. The answer she gave me was they using the organic almond milk n the ingredients of almond milk is almond, water, salt n if I stir it, it was still a nice drink. I have tried so many almond lattes from different cafes, but none of them like this. If she admitted that the reason for the splitting is the temperature of espresso is not right, she needs more time to practice her coffee skill I will accept it n forgive the technical mistake, unfortunately, her attitude is unacceptable. The egg benny n big easy was nice to try.

Coffee: Really good!<br/>Food: Amazing as well! I ordered a lamb wrap from today's menu and it was so delicious. <br/>Service: Basicaly friendly. Only one that one day I visited 9:00am and asked a seat for only coffee. The men seemed to be unhappy and put away my cup immidiately when I neally finished and suggested another cup of coffee. I needed to leave the shop...<br/>I understand it's a busy morning but there were still empty seat. I felt sad at the time.

I've always found when visiting this cafe that they are extremely slow to bring you food. I understand that sometimes it's a busy day but this has happened to me multiple times. Not only that but the staff were not apologetic at all in fact they were quiet rude. However their food is very good great atmosphere and overall not to bad.
Who Loves Good Food
Brunched @ The Little Ox. Service was friendly. Nice ambience. Coffee was average. We had: LOX Roesti, The Big Easy, Old School Cheese Burger & on today's special menu, the Smashed Pea & Avo Bruschetta. Definitely a very filling meal for everyone.
DV
Love this cafe! Nestled in the heart of Briiighton great service good food and nice ambience! Little expensive but hey that's Briiiiiiighton for you! If it was cheaper then people in Briiiiiiighton probably wouldn't go! Good work guys! The guy that greets everyone is good at his job too!
Baysidefoodie
It is a very local cafe with very normal food, but yet simple might what locals want, though the service need a big improvement, they tend to leave you be for very long time that you have to ask to be served and ordering, but I was the only few people there at that time.
Diana Lew
Fresh juices, top service and amazing healthy or cheese burgers! Something for everyone! Warrior Acai Bowl and Brekkie Burger for us. Mmmm...
Nick X Thomson
Exceptionally friendly service and short wait time on food. Good coffee too. Decent menu selection. My particular dish was a little average, but it's the only one I've tried here. Would be happy to visit again though and try some other menu items.
Bun's Food Diaries
Came by Sunday morning and had an item on the specials menu (Ham hock with baked beans, turkish toast). This was a nice hearty dish for the cold weather. The bread was just the way I liked it, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My partner had the Eggs benny, quite average. Service was also average.
Jamie Edwards
Absolutely fantastic brunch on ANZAC day. The brisket burger was phenomenal. Service was very friendly. One of the best in Melbourne so far.
Steeze Simon
The last few times I have been the staff have been disinterested. One particular staff member is always abrasive and irritating. The service is not great. Food waiting times is too long and food isn't amazing. Sorry to say one of my least favourite cafes. Used to be good a couple of years ago. Superandom is a far better choice.
Roshanak Samadirad
I can say there is a very good service, good food but small portion and a limited menue, nothing so special about this place that makes you go back there again.
Maidtomunch
The Little Ox is a very cute, relaxed cafe. The breakfast served here is great, as is the coffee. The venue is modern and clean, with very friendly, helpful staff. My breakfast was quite delicious, but could have used more flavour.
Daniel Reaburn
Service and presentation was great. The food left a lot to be desired. I had the sweet potato fritters which looked amazing, but it was lathered in a sickly sweet relish which overpowered the whole dish. The corn they used to make the fritters tasted like corn from a can.<br/>Coffee was great and lunch menu looked delicious however.
Food For The Soul
Have not been to the little Ox in a while. Review, went at 2:30pm and it is great the kitchen on weekend closes later than most and the food quality was really up there with plus of fresh fruit juices. only negative was not advised about 2 dishes sold out and ordered 1. All in all a very happy customer here.
Wendy
Worst service ever!<br/>After a freezing coffee, our food arrived. We'd asked for bacon NOT crispy, we were delivered charred tree bark! When we went to pay, we were still charged for the charred bacon with refusal to acknowledge the poor service and goods. <br/>Never again Little Oz, your lack of customer service shames your good recommendations.
Nay Nay
Looked like a cute cafe from the outside! But when I walked in it exceeded my expectations! Loved the styling of this cafe the timber modern style with a few beautiful peices of artwork. Greeted by the barista as soon as i walked in and seated. Menu and coffee food came out quickly. Coffee was so perfect! Acai bowl was good and well presented. Loved the variety of the menu I will be back to try more. My waiter wasnt too bright would be my only negative.
Sarah Vo
Little Ox is a cute and simple little place where brunch lovers will adore. All the staff were wonderful and easy going. I had the corn fritters with the addition of bacon, exceptionally delicious for the price and my friend had the green goddess with a side of mushrooms. Would really recommend little ox if you want a chill brunch with a girlfriend or the boyf or even a small coffee date by yourself with a laptop to get some late assignments done.
Heidi
Yesterday we had lunch at the little ox in Brighton. I had the smokey BBQ beef brisket brioche roll with slaw and pickles, I LOVE smokey BBQ flavour!! It was delicious! I also had the iced latte which was perfect on such a hot day! My bf had the breakfast burger, I'm told the condiments were on point. The beer battered chips should as get a mention, they were awesome!
Stevotango
Nice little cafe! Nice coffee and milkshakes. Great selection of menu. Everything is a plus for me, unfortunately the chicken sandwich is a bit too soggy and the chicken is too dry. I'll give it another go next time.
Fifi
Have not travelled to this side of town for brunch but we had a special event brunch and it was quite exceptional! Not what I expected The Little Ox was in a residential area, not the shopping strip. I had an oj and poached eggs with salmon, my beloved had a breakfast burger, bottled juice and a chai latte. It was all delicious, coffees hot..no change from $60, but that equates to almost anywhere in Melbourne.
Chelsey Ramos
Love this place. Found it through searching cafes in the area on this app. As soon as I walked in with my pram I was treated with a "hey how are you?" I was seated straight away down the back where here was plenty of room for the pram. Cafe is very spacious. Coffee ordered quick smart, long black of corse. Coffee was 👌🏽 just the way I like it. Full of flavour and right coffee to water ratio. YUM!! I ordered the Jerusalem bowl and removed the egg but added the salmon. WOW 😍 this is amazing quite a big portion so you have been warned but wow filling and great amounts of beetroot relish and humus. I wouldn't bother ordering the salmon next time as it's such a large meal. I can't rave enough about this dish. I am excited to bring the hubby back and I will be ordering the same. Service was lovely and quick. Thanks guys made our morning!
Lauren Chitty
Visited The Little Ox last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed my late breakfast of the Acai Bowl! <br/>Really attentive staff and friendly environment, even when we went inside to pay and ordered take away drinks we were asked numerous times if we were okay and needed anything! <br/>Only downfall was the coffee with almond milk, wasn't the best tasting, and I've had my fair share of almond milk lattes which I usually enjoy! ☹️
Dave Townsend
Came to this place for a takeaway coffee it came quickly. I took my first sip and it was my last it was so BAD it went into the bin. Have not tried food here and probably never will if the coffee no good I just don't bother
Tifany_la_gourmande
Little ox was a cute little cafe we came across in Brighton. We found the staff very friendly and helpful as well as its regular customers. The food was nice but the servings were a little tiny for us. The coffee was good also.
YUXIPANDA
Had the breakfast burgers here with my girlfriends just this weekend after a night out! They definitely hit the spot and the chips were on point (decent serving too). The only downside would have to be I found it a little odd you would have a breakfast burger where you +$3 for a fried egg (would have thought bacon and egg was what made a burger!) The staff were lovely and gave us blankets when we were seated outside waiting for a spot inside.
Jessica Atkins
Super cute cafe with a great vibe. The staff are friendly, the meals are filling and reasonably priced. We've enjoyed everything we've ordered, but especially love the brisket sandwich - yum! This used to be our local, and even though it's a bit further for us to travel we keep coming back - it's worth it.
Marc Fasel
I had the corn fritters with the sweet chili salsa, my partner the pancakes, and all was yum. The coffee is first class as well. We will definitely be back.
Bhushan
Nice little cafe near Brighton beach! Decided to head there on a nice Sunny day. Great food & a nice limited collection of beer. Great place for a lazy Sunday brunch! Definetly heading back there soon.
JiTe
Very friendly service and reasonable priced, the food is simple but hearty. The coffee is ordinary though. Overall, a pleasant local brunch spot.
Gregoire
Lovely place and great service, without mentioning how good the menu looked and tasted. Definitely recommend going and will come back, worth the drive if you are not from the area for an early or late breakfast.
Fanny Foodie
Beautiful cafe in a beautiful area. Very friendly and very good fodd quality ! Had the burger and the hash potatoe and it was really nice !! Better try their fresh orange juice and mint !!
Daniella Cadena
Lovely place, we had the LOX, Avo Toast and Frittata, and everything was so yum! Coffee good too <br/>Super friendly staff, we'll come back soon for sure!
Mr. Brunch
Had Sunday brunch. Got there at 10am and sat outside. Good food and lovely wait staff. Good local spot. Only let-down of sorts is that they started getting quite busy after 11. We felt some pressure to wrap up our chat and make way. Positive experience overall.
Alana Camm
Great brunch spot!! Comfy couches with pillows and inviting staff. The Acai bowl was delish, please don't change it 👌 definately be back, the sweets looked great in the cabinet but had to resist temptations haha still regretting that decision. Coffee was nice and prompt!
J
Food was tasty but place is let down by poor service. Had to wait a while to even be given a menu and some tap water. The place is very noisy inside as the music is too loud for a nice brunch experience. Also the music choice is a too intense for a 10am meal. Won't be coming back.
TT
Good service despite being very busy. Food is reasonable, not outstanding. I thought the sweet potato waffle with half chorizo is way overpriced for what it is, wasn't filling and didn't taste that nice.
Sandeep
Fantastic! Whilst The Little Ox can be busy at times, the service is fast and friendly and the food is delicious. We were initially seated outside under the heaters (they work well) and then moved inside when a table opened up a few minutes later. I had the lox rosti with a few extras and I really enjoyed the smoked salmon salad. No complaints, will definitely bookmark this for a return visit.
Tom & Maddy
One of my favourite local cafes! They play classic tunes and there is always a cheerful, busy atmosphere. <br/>They serve the best Acai bowl I've ever had, and their thick cut chips and burgers are top notch! They also have some great healthier options too! <br/>Reasonably priced and I would definitely recommend this place as somewhere great for brunch or for a coffee with friends!
Lauren
Terrible service and terrible food. My partner and i went on valentines day for brunch to be told there was a 15minute wait, despite there being empty tables. We waited for 30minutes and were not even offered water or a coffee whilst we waited. Once we got to our table we were shoved on a small table in the corner beside the store room. The food was terrible once it arrived after another 30minute wait. No burger buns made eating a burger impossible and hard burnt toast, served with burnt bacon and cold eggs made for a very distasteful brunch. The wait staff were all a bit rude also, just to top off the whole terrible experience.<br/>Definitely will not be going back!
Brungiel
The Little Ox serves up some simple but pretty good breakfast options... Their breakfast burger is very good, and for something a little different and much healthier, the Jerusalem bowl is great!
Alex
Awesome little cafe hidden amongst Brighton! I'm contend that I'm not one to hang out in Brighton a great deal, however today I was dragged down out of my richmond comfort zone to the Little Ox cafe. <br/><br/>Straight up this place was a 5! The staff were refreshingly friendly, the layout simple & comfortable. The type of place you could spend an afternoon enjoying the music and atmosphere.<br/><br/>Now, the food. Well put simply, just spot on. We shared the Jerusalem salad, the calamari salad & the acai bowl (forgive the spelling).<br/><br/>Now I'm just sat here, wondering if I really have to go home 👌🏽<br/><br/>
Mllaw
Best cafe in Melbourne! Staff are super friendly, food is fresh and seasonal and great coffee. You can wait a little while on a weekend cos it's so busy, but worth the wait. Perfect poached eggs every time.
Ciarán Reid
Pleasant coffee, attentive service and a light and airy atmosphere. A solid local cafe in Brighton worth stopping by on the way to the beach. Really wish I tried one of the dessert specials as they looked amazing.
Todjenor
I used to go here all the time, we went back this morning...crap. 3 of us, they took our orders OK but 45 mins later after the coffee didn't turn up we got our meals, cold!<br/>We walked out an hour later an still hadn't had our coffee. Not good enough!
The Pierced Palate
Came here on Good Friday & even though they were full, we got a seat real quick. For such a small cosy establishment, they exceeded expectations.<br/>Coffee was great, their menu was the right amount that seems to focus on fresh & seasonal ingredients which is what usually makes or breaks a cafe, service was excellent & their fitting was warm. Had the potato rosti & salmon, very simple but delicious & filling, the eggs that we got  were perfectly poached & there was just something about the salmon that makes me want more. Will definitely go back again to try their other items on the menu.
Yk Lu
I take the omelette which is special. It is a little bit overcooked but I still feel the flavor of eggs. This make the dish really flavorful. The pumpkin and spinach inside were tasty. I would recommend the iced tea with less ice because normal ice may dilute the tea.
Janet
<br/><br/>"Went to The Little Ox over the Easter weekend and the place was buzzing. The menu has had a recent facelift and we were pleasantly surprised at the exciting choices available.<br/>We enjoyed the Jerusalem bowl, which is an epic dish full of goodness. My partner loved his Wagyu burger served with Woodfrog Challah(brioche).<br/>The St Ali coffee was perfectly made and the freshly squeezed juice was delicious.<br/>We loved the atmosphere with happy staff and cool music.<br/>Well done to the Little Ox Team!"
Zuma Sinclair
After hearing such great things about Little Ox, I finally gave it a try. Absolutely loved this little cafe. The coffee is great, & the waitress was amazing & very attentive & welcoming. I had the fritters which were a hit. Will definitely be back!
Patersani
I've been the the little Ox many a time and it's always worth it. On the weekends be prepared to wait whilst the Brighton mothers finish their social media updates, but it's made easy by the friendly doorman, who I'm assuming is the manager. They've just made the move to st Ali coffee, what a welcome improvement. Food is always great with a twist on most old favorites. The other day I had the corn fritters and we're both delixious and filling. Looking forward to returning once again
Zomatino
The food and coffee at this place were really great, although you need to have time on your hands if you want to go here as the whole process starting from seating to actually getting your food takes a very long time. Had to wait atleast 20 mins to get a seat inside as it was cold and windy outside. After ordering it takes an eternity for the food to arrive but it well worth the wait.
Elmocookie
Popped in as we were in the area. Waited 20mins for a table inside. Fairly noisy (need more softer surfaces thanks to echoing) and had to wait a while for our order to be taken and the order itself took longer than expected. The food however was great! Had the smashed peas/poached egg/bacon and the ox tea (a bit sweet but very nicely gingery). The yoghurt muesli was nice and light.
George Costanza
We had the smashed peas with burrata and LOX roesti. Both were sensational. The staff were great-generous and warm. All the staff looked really happy to be there...great culture! Coffees were served promptly and were on-point with respect to flavour and quality. Awesome music too. Well done guys!!
Phoodlover
The coffee was great- very smooth, yet strong. Service was amazing and the staff were really friendly. They gave us space but were there for anything we needed! The food- especially the fries were so good, and the atmosphere was friendly and social!
M&M
Ordered <br/>•Calamari salad •Strong latte<br/><br/>It was very nice to sit outside and have lunch on a beautiful day. Calamari salad was Asian style with a lot of calamari. It was not super tasty, but I enjoyed it. Strong latte had flavour. Service was not bad, but not memorable.
Ihoward
This cafe is so popular, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Waited about half an hour for food which is a long time when you are starving. The smashed avocado was really small for the price with one small piece of toast and little bit of avocado. Was very underwhelmed, don't know what the hype is about.
John Newton
This is a very popular place for breakfast and lunch. The food is nice and the atmosphere is great. I come here a lot and have no complaints
Michelle Huang
Such a cute cafe, we made it just in time for the lunch menu. It was a cold day so they had blankets to hand out to everyone which was such a thoughtful idea. The owner was very friendly. I had the chicken salad, better than your average chicken salad, well flavoured and not dry chicken, and so filling! Would definitely return
FOOD TRIP
Popular brunch venue away from the main strip of Brighton, known for good value coffee and chill atmosphere. Food is great but not go-out-of-your-way amazing. Pleasant venue to catch up with friends. . Cappuccino $3.30. Lovely espresso, not much foam and close to a flat white. 7/10. Cafe latte $3.30
Sassenach
Good coffee, piccolos were perfect. Nice decor and staff are efficient. Plenty of typical things you find nowadays (rostis and fritters) but I was intrigued by the Jerusalem bowl, a mix of salad greens with avo, hummus, barley and beetroot (sadly, bland). Yum. Poached egg was overcooked (it happens) but gooey yolk would have been perfection. My teen loved her brekky burger. The fritter meal was as expected, rosti too was fine, a touch boring. No mention of the origin of any of the ingredients.
Katie O'Keeffe
We had a lovely breakfast here this morning. Great coffee, nice food, good atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff. Kid friendly with high chair provided and no charge for the vegemite toast for our little one. We will definitely be back soon.

Pretty nice corner coffee shop. Loved their coffee. We went there about 7.30am before we head to the airport. Delicious coffee. Wish we could get a breakfast too. Its a nice place to stop bu after a great run or workout. Area is pretty cosy so you can take your laptop with you too.

Nice ambience, friendly and attentive waiters, and good food. Just had fruits toast and a long black, but I was pleased with the quality time I had there. Was there for a weekday breakfast when I was on leave, and I liked it! Good way to start your relaxing day.

Really nice place for brunch for the locals. The coffee is quite nice. Really nicely located and have blanket for outside on cold days. Busy on Sundays.

The coffee is good but the place too loud . I am literally stressed out when I leave this place whereas I came to relax !  The staff is fun and seems to enjoy themselves and the music is good but again everything is TOO loud !!

Came here on the way to Brighton Beach. Nice big corner cafe with outdoor seating (equipped with heaters). <br/><br/>We were served quickly and water was provided. Service was good. <br/><br/>It is a good local cafe but the coffee and food did not turn out particularly special. Had the corn fritters which was something different but also nothing to shout about.

Little Ox is a nice little cafe, with happy and welcoming staff! The food is good, and although it can take a bit of time when busy it's worth the wait.

Update: my last post was 6 months ago but I need to update it, unfortunately for the worse. For me, it's gone from pretty darn good (4) to just good (3.5).<br/><br/>The porridge and coffee were excellent. Unfortunately my wife's steak sandwich doesn't compare to the Montreal or other sandwiches we've had here. Also the poached eggs dishes were a little overcooked for the eggs, and my dish (corn fritters) sounded great but the relish tasted like tomato sauce ... And so instead of a fancy dish, I tasted "poached eggs with tomato sauce". Ummmmm...<br/><br/>---------<br/><br/>Came with 7 year old daughter. <br/><br/>Service, whilst very pleasant, is not really children-oriented. No separate kids menu (which is fine, just a little less convenient) and couldn't order a side of chips with one of the meals because chips only come with specific other meals. A bit inflexible, but what can you do?<br/><br/>Food: Outstanding. I've been here before and have previously had the Montreal sandwich (amazing - filling, fresh, and great contrasts of flavours and textures). Today ordered a strong cappuccino and a felafel sandwich (of sorts). Coffee was nice and strong but could have done with a little more foam. Sandwich was as amazing as the previous one. Falafel inside was crunchy and flavoursome, slightly spicy, and not dry. Well balanced against a sweet chutney with a bit of a curry taste to it. Crunch also came from the toasted fresh multigrain it was embedded in. Some of the chutney did leak through into my hands so I was continually cleaning them with my serviette :). Part of the charm - didn't really bother me given how my tastebuds felt. I guess I could have used cutlery if I really wanted :)<br/><br/>Given food quality to me is weighted more highly than service, I have rated as such - particularly given service would generally be considered very good if you didn't have kids. (And is menu selection / flexibility considered part of "service"?)
