Review Hencho En Mexico - Brighton

Loved the atmosphere and service! A location to take beautiful pictures! In general the food was a bit too sour for me. However, I had the best prawn tacos. Loved how they had mangoes in it. Can have it everyday!

Absolutely loved this restaurant!! The cocktails were amazing and there was a great selection of food for vegetarians! Staff were friendly and food came out quickly. There is a lovely undercover outside area as well!!

Great authentic Mexican food. Habanero wings are bomb and the decor is vibrant. Would love to try their bottomless brunch once.

Don’t know where to start, the place looks splendid and I recommend to sit at the back shade. Your know the food will be great from the welcome you get from the staff. I and my friends enjoyed the food and I will definitely keep coming back. Keep it up with bringing pleasure to our taste buds with authentic Mexico cuisine. 😋🤤

Came here to get our Birria taco fix. Was not disappointed. Also got some fish tacos, corn, a prawn taco and the mushroom quesadilla. Loved the fish tacos. The prawn not so much because we couldn't really taste the prawn just batter. Birria tacos were delicious (we got the chicken) as was the quesadilla. Delicious Mexican food. Would return for sure.

Absolutely delicious! Very fresh tasting. Mexicolada mocktail was also really good! Fun and funky atmosphere

Genuinely the most incredible Mexican food I’ve had in Melbourne in my life. The service was really fast, the vibe was great and our waitress was lovely. The burrito I ordered not only looked incredible, but was so flavoursome and generously portioned. My friend said the tacos she ordered were the best she’d ever had. We couldn’t recommend this restaurant more.

Had my girlfriends birthday there last night. First time we’ve ever been to this restaurant and we’ll definitely be going again. Food was absolutely amazing and the service matched it. We had heaps of fun and we could not fault anything

Hi love Hecho en Mexico in Bay St! The staff are so lovely, kind, and food is AMAZING! Real delicious Mexican food and fresh ingredients. I will be a regular customer from now on!

I ordered Hecho En Mexico for takeaway dinner last night as there are currently no dine in options.

The serving of the quesadilla was huge and very flavourful. I can tell this dish would be great for dine in, but as a takeaway it was very sloppy, messy and hard to eat. It did taste authentically Mexican though so I did enjoy it despite that. I just don't think they travel well so hopefully they can do something to improve this!

My partner had the fajita and thought it was super tasty and a great portion size.

Although I won't be ordering takeaway from here again, I'll definitely give them a chance for dine in as Mexican eats so much better fresh.

Ordered Nachos, chicken Burrito, chorizo burrito and churros - all takeaway via ubereats.

Wasn’t that impressed. Food was delivered really quickly by the driver, but nachos were already sloppy. Burritos had little meat; mainly rice and black beans. They weren’t labelled either so wasn’t able to immediately identify which filling was which. Couldn’t taste any of the delicious-sounding salsas they had advertised. Chicken in the burritos was tender and well cooked, though. Churros were another letdown: dry and tasteless, like brittle candy consistency.

Moral of story - steer away from nachos and churros if doing takeaway. They don’t travel well. They do not taste any good after 30 mins.

I’ll give Hecho another go. Hopefully this was just a bad afternoon. Or maybe it’s much better dining in and eating fresh, than attempting takeaway.

Staff were amazing and the food was great.

Super lovely service !! The tacos are super yummy and so are the margaritas. I’d recommend the pork and fish tacos 💕

Can’t believe I haven’t been to Hecho before! Came here for some early drinks and dinner with friends and it was the perfect spot! Great atmosphere and the Mexican didn’t disappoint (my fav was the nachos) 🌮🌮

Indoor and Outdoor seating available. A great range of cocktails at a good price ($10) and some one of the best Mexican spots in Melbourne. Loved my visit.

There are so many things I love about this place. First, the ambience is amazing. It’s so bright and fun and lively.
Second, the service was also amazing. The lady who served us was very helpful and fun.
Third, the food was just great. It was easily some of the best Mexican I’ve ever eaten. The chimichanga and the Jamaica drink I got were the highlights of the food for me.
I will 100% be back again.

Hecho! Brought my friends down here for a bite the other day and we were absolutely blown away by how delicious it was. We were hanging out at the beach and were just CRAVING some Mexican. Top place.

I am a big fan of Mexican food and Hecho en Mexico really hit the mark. The food was outstanding, matched by the service. The outdoor area in the back is also a great space!

Love the place and the friendly staff !
Dine And Dash
Hecho En Mexico is a popular Mexican restaurant (and franchise), serving authentic Mexican dishes such as burritos, taco, enchiladas, ensaladas and more. We were very excited to visit the Brighton joint as we enjoyed our last experience in South Yarra.

Although the venue looks quite small from the outside, the place is actually massive! There are various seating areas in the restaurant including a large back area with a full bar which I imagine is very busy on the weekends.
We ordered the chicken and beef tacos, the smoked stuff jalapeños, the street-style corn, and the steak fajita. The corn was a classic entrée served with smoked chipotle mayo, salata cheese, tajin and lime. The chipotle mayo was outstanding and definitely gave the corn an extra kick! The tacos were also beautiful! Our favourite was the chicken taco which was filled with black turtle beans, pico de Gallo, tomatillo salsa, chipotle aioli and ricotta salata cheese. The chicken was cooked well and the cheese was the perfect addition to the taco.

The steak fajita was definitely the standout; the dish was served on a sizzling plate with the steak and vegetables and on a separate plate, with soft tortillas and sides. The steak was cooked to perfection and the aromas of the mushrooms, onions and capsicums were gorgeous. It was a very generous serving of meat and it definitely filled me up.

Customer service was admirable. The waitresses catered to our needs and the kitchen was able to adhere to our dietary requirements. Overall, we were very pleased with our time at Hecho En Mexico and left feeling very satisfied.
Happy Food Lover
The staff were lovely and really welcoming! We had the nachos and the chilli fries, the flavours were really authentic! Real ingredients, food made with love and a great location with lovely staff! Amazing and will be back!

Hecho en mexico is a great place for mexican food, more of a traditional take. The chicken fajita sizzler was full of flavours, incredibly tasty and delicious. The chicken was so tender and juicy. We also ordered the chilaquiles, really enjoyed it at the start but towards the end it was a bit sickening as it was quite oily at the bottom. I understand that they are fried but it was a bit too much oil.

Great Mexican in Brighton. Varied menu with a mix of tacos, burritos, burgers and more. We tried the fish and chicken tacos as well as, a cali burrito and cinnamon nachos to finish. Looking forward to coming back again.
FriesFiend
Classic Mexican food right in the heart of Brighton. With all the standard Mexican fare this is a great place to bring the family for a big night out! The tacos and Fajitas are delicious and they even do burgers and fries as well.

Casual and authentic Mexican restaurant with a bright and modern atmosphere. We've ordered the Quesadilla and a Burrito. Everything was really tasty with heaps of fillings. Couldn't say no to the Churros either and they were yumm!
Looking forward to coming back to try other menu items.

We asked for vegan starters, which when arrived at our table clearly had cheese on it. We asked to change it but the sweaty manager ran over and told us that it was tofu, however it was clearly not plant based as the same “cheese” came out on the meat tacos. The restaurant was completely empty for the whole time we were in there, the staff were hostile and the ‘bar’ was non-existent. Thank god for the bar next door!

This used to be one of our fav little places to frequent for delicious Mexican food with a funky ambience to match. Unfortunately it seems to have gone very much downhill. I ordered the minced beef burger and it came out completely raw. Staff didn’t apologise but said they’d get chef to cook again. Came out this time with a black burger bun from being burnt and meat tasted terrible. My partners tacos were skimpy to say the least with not half the veggies or taste they used to have. Veggie chips were chips with what seemed like 2 whole onions on top and some black beans. Very disappointing. Hopefully this was just a very bad day for this place...
Burgerman77
Delicious and authentic Mexican food which is hard to find in Melbourne. Our favorite restaurant in the area. We have tried the whole menu and would recommend each dish!
Cate
Would not recommend this place, the food is average, bland and overpriced. We took a 6pk of beer to drink and they wanted to charge us $5 per head for BYO. Didn’t say anything at the start, didn’t use their bottle opener or glass, the BYO fee was more than our beers.... better Mexican than this place in Brighton 👎👎.

I haven’t had such good Mexican food in a long time. Everything was amazing, the quesadilla’s, the nachos, and the veggie chips (which were definitely my favourite). The atmosphere was really cool and the staff were super nice too. Would definitely eat here again.

Have been to this venue twice and both times have been great. The fajita plate is the standout but would recommend the steak or chicken, not the fish, which has been pretty crispy and dry on both occasions. But the veggies and seasoning is 5/5.

The nachos are fantastic too, with generous toppings. The tacos are a bit ordinary for the price but the prawn was our favourite. The grilled corn is nice as well, if a little overpowered by the spicy sauce.

Nice, relaxed vibes, the staff are friendly and the food arrives reasonably fast.
Decent Feed
Although the photos may not looks as appetising, the food here was excellent! We ordered the Nachos, chicken quesadilla and chimichanga to takeaway, and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The chicken quesadilla was especially tender and flavourful. The nachos were also a favourite, it was more than enough to share between the 2 of us. Next time we come, we’ll certainly dine in as I’m sure it gives a whole different atmosphere and vibe to the experience.
Waiting time for our takeaway was fairly decent- only 10-15 mins.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Had a bit of a feast at Hecho En Mexico with the gang from the office. Food was very satisfying and portion sizes were good for lunch. We BYOd as they didn't have a liquor licence but they gave us skull cups to drink out of which was good.

Best Mexican food. Every dish we got was delicious! The service was excellent, very friendly and accommodating. Chorizo quesadilla and jalapeño poppers were the highlights of the night. Recommend sitting in the courtyard, as it had great character and a fun vibe. Will be back!!

Another five stars meal I had. Wonderful service by this lovely Scottish lady. The taco ingredients are refreshing and even the veggie taco has so much flavour.

Oh my god! The best mexican food I have ever tasted in my life. I am a big mexican food lover and I must say this one serves the best so far.
A couple of minutes drive from the brighton beach shore. And a very aesthetic small restaurant which serves amazing food.
Although we went on a weekday which is suppose to be not that crowded, but this place actually was. It wasnt that we had to wait to get seated but it was busy.
Regardless of the fact that the servicing was very slow but the team member personally apologised for being like that since they were running short with staff at that time
Overall, this place is an absolute must and probably my best go to mexican places in Melbourne.
Looking forward to having more such amazing meals here

Great Mexican food and a welcome addition to Bayside. I've only ever had take away from Hecho En Mexico but I've been impressed all three times so far. The beef burrito is excellent as were the jalapeños. The beef chili was incredible! I love a good beef chili. Very spicy 🌶 but my only complaint about that is for $15, it's an awfully small portion that probably took up less than half of a medium sized plastic margarine container. I was expecting it to be enough for a main dish. It's con carne so it's not like the ingredients are too expensive for bigger portions. I look forward to trying more of the menu.

Staff were great.
Was really busy but didn’t have to wait long.
Food was so great, enjoyed every dish
Would recommend and will be back
Defs do dessert ;)

Good was extremely good. Ambience is perfect and has a beautiful romantic setting. The staff are so friendly. I personally loved the quesadillas. They were extremely delicious.

I’ll start with the positives;
The food was delicious. For entrees, we had taquitos and corn chip with salsa & guacamole. For mains, our kids had fisherman’s baskets and we both had the blaco seafood grande burrito. Great flavours. Bigger servings than we expected.

The negatives;
Seating was extremely tight. Pretty close to communal seating.
Our mains came out BEFORE our entrees!
One meal came out with extra guacamole, which wasn’t ordered.
No liquor license. It’s BYO, which some might say is a positive.

If you live nearby, it’s worth a try. Otherwise I wouldn’t be rushing there.

Had a function here with 20 people, the staff were friendly and kept the food flowing, and the manager was brilliant about listening to our needs! Loved the food, the decor, and the night. Thanks Claire xx

Terrible. Placed an order through Uber eats, which advertised the restaurant as open; hours later called to discover the restaurant was closed, no food. No way to contact the restaurant (no email, phone obviously not answered), Uber eats taking no responsibility. UPDATE YOUR OPEN TIMES WITH UBER EATS! AND PROVIDE AN EMAIL CONTACT OPTION IF YOU ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT GETTING FEEDBACK!

It's advertised as a bar but they don't have alcoholic drinks, so that was confusing. I'm guessing a licensing issue but that wasn't explained when we asked if they have any alcoholic beverages.

The soft shell tacos we got were nothing special. The fish ones were way overcooked and super chewy. The chicken was tasty, chorizo was okay, and the pork was okay too but had canned pineapple which seemed a bit rough considering it's $8 per taco.

There's a fair bit going on in this menu!
Fish tacos are my go to at most "authentic" mexican restaurants. Its my basis for grading them, I have to say that whilst the flavours were ok the fish itself was dry for me on this occasion which brought the rating down a touch, service is great however. I'm not sure there needs to be burgers and the like on this menu, concentrate on the Mexican only and the restaurant will be better for it.

Went there for the first time on the weekend and really enjoyed the food. Great little bonus that it was BYO too. However, the service was a real let down. Lack of attention and the wait for food/drinks took some time - and it wasn’t even busy.

Love this place. Delicious Mexican food. I would highly recommend. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. Only thing missing is the tequila.

What a great little place. Food was amazing; the corn and jalapeño poppers were freaking brilliant. The beef tacos were the best pick of the pack. Great vibe and super friendly staff.

Tasty food, excellent location close to North Brighton Railway , the hidden spot in the back of the restaurant is great to chill ... definitely the best service. The chicken hamburguer was delicious !! Next time I’ll go for the tacos !!!

Best breakfast! This place it is a jewel. Loved it. The seating at the back was so amazing. Really nice place. Good service. Looking forward to go again.

A great casual Mexican restaurant in Brighton! The food was amazing - soft Tacos out of this world especially the Pulled Pork. Would recommend the extra guacamole, just the right amount of chilli to hit the spot. Staff are so attentive and ready with a smile and dining advice. Looking forward to returning.
Cyn
We went there for dinner before a movie across the road. Service was friendly and quick. Food was amazing! We had the Street Style grilled corns, Fish & Prawns Taco (highly highly recommend the tacos!) And Chicken Honey & Mustard Fajita (YUMMMMMM - big serving so, sharing is wise). Too busy eating and totally forgot to take pics of the food 😉. We will return again. Hopefully by then, it will be byo or alcohol licensed.
