Review Buffalo Boy - Brighton

Fantastic, tasty and healthy-ish food!! Very good prices too. 5/5

Pro: Great food selection, good service, and ambience. Really nice flavours (and some original ideas). Con: not much - pre-made lemon lime bitters. Really enjoyed the meal here - the 2 person set menu was near perfect with some brilliant food with fantastic flavours. It's definitely not for purists (as there's a blend of foods from asia) but what they do they do very well. The only disappointment in the mean was they used the bottled lemon lime bitters (which isn't that nice) - even though they can apparently make quite good drinks there. The price is quite reasonable for the quality they provide - and the 'set' menu (which gives you a choice of 5 dishes) is our recommendation for lunch. Great to share dishes.

Terrible. Ate here last night and food took ages and the wrong order came out. We ordered fish and were served with pork. Upon raising this with the staff they insisted someone from our table changed the order (which was not the case) and they did not apologies or admit they made an error. Errors happen, however they were rude about it and insisted it was our fault however we didn't even leave the table!! They were rude and said we were to blame. The food took so long to be corrected so we ended up taking it away and eating home instead at 9pm…. Again no apology for the terrible experience and wouldn’t recommend other nor go back here again.

Popped in here one night after being in the city for the afternoon. Cute and lovely restaurant - food is beautiful, fresh and flavourful. Indoor and outdoor space to cater for all. Service was good. Can get busy, so make sure you book!

Food tastes ok and friendly service, but serving size is very underwhelming. Not even a whole fish fillet for a main. Someone replaced the buffalo with a hamster.

One of the best Pad Thai noodle prawn dishes I've had in my life!! Excellent attentive staff and chef, for friends with specific food allergy requirements.

It was lovely food!! Lots of veggies & a nice young fellow who was our waiter, his first day made it a great experience 😀

Very tasty indeed, worth a visit

Excellent local Vietnamese food, so much flavour and really fresh ingredients. Thanks for the amazing mushroom vermicelli!

So lovely, such a nice local spot for flavoursome, fresh vegan Vietnamese food. Their tofu and mushroom vermicelli is to die for! Big shout out to them for the vermicelli vegetable spring rolls too ;)

Been here a few times and it has been lovely but the other night was the best yet! Even when we walked through the door we were welcomed by amazing food smells and kind staff. During Covid times it was a pleasant and safe experience with everyone spaced relatively apart and the high chairs were actually very comfortable for once with a back and a cushion! We had a variety of delicious starters which we chose the GF options (for my dietary) and they were delish. I then had the Pho and can I just say, the broth has improved considerably! It was yumm and the waitress offered me extra fresh chilli which made it even better, only thing it was missing was some chilli oil on the side! Other than that, will 100% be back it was good vibes, food was amazing and service was exceptional 👌 It is great to enjoy a lovely meal, feel safe with plenty of GF options and supporting local businesses during this tough period for all, thank you! 😃 👍

Great food, friendly atmosphere and generous portions! We had a lovely night and left with no complaints.
We ordered the salt+pepper squid, cold rolls, lamb shank, barramundi and sautéed greens, al of which we could hardly fault! Would recommend if you like modern asian with traditional flavours and fresh ingredients 👌🏼

A bit disappointed pass this resteraunt couple times a week smells great. Finally stopped disappointed chicken in pho is sliced looks like straight from coles deli counter. Onions are crunchy as there is skin on it and outside old layer of onion was used.
Food was ok. The waitress was a little abrupt and didn’t show energy or enthusiasm. I am happy with the food but the venue energy and atmosphere was low. Good food for the area.

The first time I dined at Buffalo Boy I was very impressed the food was excellent the atmosphere warm and inviting and the young man that served us was very good at his job, very attentive and friendly....so I suggested going again with my family.

At lunch time on Sunday the second time I went the food was still delicious (a bit over priced) but the atmosphere was very bad...despite the fact that we were the only people in the restaurant the waitress dumped the drinks on the table in front of my husband (she couldn't be bothered walking ALL the way around the table) she was hostile towards the younger members (30+) of the family when they arrived ... and rolled her eyes with disdain when asked directions to the unmarked toilet as if we should instinctively know. I was very disappointed to be treated like that in a restaurant that I had recommended and will probably not return.

Decent pho in Bayside, but definitely NOT worth the $16 price tag. Yes its wagyu, but I dont taste the difference and the portion is small for the price.

I have been to this place many times, as the food here are just amazing, quality with modern twist and really catching up with the modern day food trend, unlike most of Brighton old shops never changed for decades, the items are reasonable priced or you can say heaps cheaper compare to similar restaurant your paid elsewhere in Melbourne, and the staff are also helpful as always.
Nice and relax set up, causal and full of fun laughing people always enjoying their time here, the very few restaurant in Brighton that is trendy and care for the food qualities.

Had dinner here for the second time recently and had to leave a review as it was a totally different experience the second time. Food was ok tasted average very limited menu and price just ridiculous for what you get! Young wait staff limited knowledge on well pretty much anything... I couldn't call this place traditional Vietnamese it's more a place to eat food in Brighton and get charged Brighton prices the restaurant set up is strange and not inviting smoke coming through the kitchen... I guess it's ok just not memorable! I probably wouldn't return unless they changed their menu and became more consistent! If you have a restaurant in Brighton you need to step it up a notch! Not settle for being average.... Food for thought...

Brighton is not local to me so I wasn’t really sure what to expect with Buffalo Boy but I couldn’t have been more impressed with the food. Absolutely delicious! My group ordered the pork bao, net spring rolls, calamari and satay skewers to start with. Everything was tasty and flavoursome with the standout being the calamari (how did they get it so tender??) and the pork buns. It was obvious that a lot of care had been taken in the planning stages of all theses dishes as each and every sauce/garnish etc was perfectly matched and balanced to the dish. For mains we shared the ox cheek and the lamb shank with a side of coconut rice. Both mains were stunning! The standout was probably the ox cheek with that amazing sticky sauce.
Atmosphere was cool and the interior was modern and interesting. Staff were absolutely lovely but took a long time to clear plates. After people left it took them about 20 mins to clear the tables.
Only food critique (super minor) was that the rice was a little dry but overall it was a stunning dinner! Will definitely be back soon.

Wow! Made to feel like we were inconveniencing the wait staff by turning up for dinner. Begrudgingly shown a table then had to humbly request that our orders be taken. When dinner arrived, plates were slammed down on the table without so much as a smile let alone an "enjoy your meal". The fitout has absolutely no acoustic insulation so patrons are shouting at their fellow diners and with tables squeezed next to each other, it's uncomfortable and headache inducing! Food was unremarkable but the real punch in the face was the reeking bucket of bleach placed footsteps from patrons still at their tables. We get it guys, it's 9:45pm and you want to wrap up - but seriously, how disgusting! Have been to this place a handful of times before but won't be back after this last experience. No patron should be made to feel like an inconvenience!

Warm friendly welcoming
Happy staff , refreshed menu
Quick meal turn around , great little summer spot or winter hide away .
Fresh seasonal cocktail list ( chilliMojito )
Is a must try for a twist on something new . Designed by kyle rose of SASH on Chapel . Also a really nice prime wines selection. Will be back for those dumplings.
Love All Good Food
Nice and cosy, I must say this probably the best asian fusion in Brighton area, Perhaps the only one around this area, you can get easy pho or you can share with other when you order from sharing plates. We took the staff advise of 3 entree and 2 share plates for 4 of us,
tried the beef cheeks and lamb shanks, and couple dessert of panna cotta at the end, they are amazing, the service is prompted. will re visit once in area again, maybe just a pho next time
Tips for you, order the share plates, they are good size for two with an entree or side. 4 of us with all the food just off 30$ each, did not have drink as working the next day early.

Popular local Bay St eating spot. Very comfortable Cosy modern decor. Had the seafood spring rolls, vegetarian bun, and pork bun. The food was absolutely on point and so full of flavor. Very genuine flavors of Vietnam.

While ago we went to this place for lunch, it was good, we have been waiting for a while to try the place again for dinner. finally we got the chance to book in advance and try the place, but unfortunately it was a shocking experience, very tiny portions for a very high price, taste of the food was not good at all, no BYO, all in all we paid a lot of money, came back home hungry, and did not enjoy the food. never to return.

Real cute place, great attentive service, awsum cocktails and lovely food ... (spot on with the pork belly)
Unfortunately we were let down by only one thing , The only complaint was the portions were tiny for what you pay.

This restaurant changed management a little while back so I was excited to visit again and see what had changed. The fitout is a massive improvement and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The wait staff were pleasant and the service quick and efficient.
Vietnamese food is by far my favourite cuisine after travelling there last year. I have to say that the food was very tasty but unfortunately way overpriced for the very small portion sizes ($4.50 for 1 rice paper roll and $25 for 1 beef "rib" - to share???!!!!!). I want to come back but coming home hungry after spending $68 on 4 rice paper rolls, 1 rib, 3 mini chicken skewers and 1 bowls of coleslaw I think I'll go back to the competitors. Sorry Buffalo Boy.

A great little Vietnamese Kitchen & Bar located at the rear of the old English, Scottish & Australian Bank Limited in Bay Street, Brighton. We loved the food, the wine we chose to accompany our choice of dishes and the friendly service. Most definitely returning to try more of their food!. Visited twice now as we couldn't stay away. Food is delicious and service very friendly. Very well priced and some of the most authentic and tasty food in the area, highly recommended!

OUTSTANDING pho. I am literally in heaven right now. Broth is seasoned perfectly and brisket is melt in the mouth. Generous serve and great value for money. Super friendly staff too. Already planning my return trip with company to try more menu options.

Had a fantastic meal last night. Spring rolls, sweet potato and corn fritters, followed by whole snapper. Everything was fresh and delicious and the service was great.

Food was well presented and tasty. Dumping were good. Veg spring rolls a bit bland. Little pricey for the portion size. Great cocktail and drinks menu.

Our favourite spot for a chilled out meal... the food is absolutely delicious, the wait staff super nice and the space just small enough to make you feel at home.
Don't leave without trying their pork belly!!

Just paying our bill now but couldn't wait to give this restaurant the great review that it deserves. A modern delicious menu all cooked beautifully and served by friendly charming waiters. This is the vest Vietnamese in bayside Melbourne by a long way. Highly recommended ☺☺☺

Second time visit after a long while,
Great food and service still,
It is all about quality here, but ashamed few reviews stated this place is pricy, lol, with the quality, service and environment, it is relatively inexpensive if you compare to same sorted of venue elsewhere.

Amazing fit out, New menu on offer with better value and dishes are Devine, from the preparation to taste. Try curry duck leg, lemongrass beef ribs, and the Pho. What is more, they also have cocktails with Asian twist, wine list designed to pair their food menu. Gotta get Chilli mojito, specially created by their amazing bartender, simply ask at the bar or more special cocktail creations...

Very happy about the revamp, as Chi was a little lack lustre. Lovey food, even as takeaway, very keen to eat in at some point.

Ordered Pho, Bun, the sweet potato fritters, and sautéed vegetables. Bright flavours, great quality.

Still doesn't touch Vietnamese food in Vietnam, but fantastic none the less.

A great new fit out!
All new restaurant with a very different menu
Tried the lemongrass beef rib which arrived with a tangy side salad. Great dish - the meat just came off the bone so there was no finger work
Service was brisk and the check back was well timed.
All requests were well attended to - even came back to check again
Will certainly return - I think this is a winnet
