Beautiful food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, a place to go for great Brazilian/Latin American live music. Also, kids friendly too. Will recommend for sure!
I was speaking to an interesting gentleman today at Fogata, whilst he was making my flat white coffee..what a funky restaurant this is..infused with Latin charm and a great atmosphere.. A must do on James st Tenerife..I'll be back hats off to ya :D
Incredible Latin fusion restaurant in a quieter part of Fortitude Valley. I particularly liked the calamari, which I would give a 5/5, and the pavé cake which was deliciously moreish and lighter than I expected. The confit duck tacos were a tad dry and needed more sauce but otherwise good flavour and a generous serve of duck.

Rating Fogata again because the food is always amazing!
5/5.
My wife and I went here on a quiet Tuesday night for date night. Good service, ambiance and food. The pulled pork empanada, pork cutlets, sweet potato chips and the white wine Sangria were amazing. Good size servings with reasonable prices. Good night out.
Fogata Latin Fushion is our family’s favourite Latin food in Brisbane.
There are so many options to choose from, a lot of traditional dishes that use ingredients rarely found in Australia and there is definitely something for everyone!
My favourite item is definitely the Maduro - a roasted plantain filled with sweet Bocadillo & hot melted cheese!
My partners favourite was the Feijoada - a Brazilian style hearty stew that definitely serves more than 2.
Service is always really friendly here and staff are so knowledgeable about the menu and origins of where each item came from.
Drinks menu is extensive as well and dessert is delicious. (Not pictured and not on the menu all the time, we’ve also tried a chocolate cake that was to die for.)
5/5 would recommend ☺️
What an exciting menu! I thoroughly enjoyed my tapas time here. The maduro was amazing ans the sangria was mixed perfectly. It is a little pricey but the service, food and atmosphere are worth it.
I went for date night with Nanxi cause we were bored and had nothing else going on. We got a Dimmi deal for 50% which was great cause this place is a bit exxy. Parking is awful cause it's along James Street, pray for a side street park and leg it!It's one of those share plate places so we got a few small and large plates between us.
One of the first dishes we got to share was the pao de queijo, a Brazilian tapioca flour cheese bread. One of my favourite Brazilian dishes because I absolutely love cheese and I love this gooey, chewy, stretchy texture of the bread. I got 4/7 of the balls pictured, Nanxi doesn't like cheese!
On the other hand, she loves corn so we got the corn elote, chargrilled half corn corbs with lime, jalapeno butter, queso and paprika. Brace life has left me unable to physically get close enough to the cob to bite it effectively, so I had to use my knife to cut off the kernels which really destroys my enjoyment of corn. These were good, they had a great smokey char, were super juicy and sweet kernels and the mix of salty queso, mildly spicy paprika and tangy lime were a killer hit. She got two cobs and the good ones at that, the two bottom ones not the pointy one in exchange for me eating all the cheese bread.
This next one was a bit of a weird one, char grilled squid with squid ink meringue, chipotle sauce and biquinho chillies, those bright red little tear drop looking things. Lots of flavours going on but I did however like the softiness of that beautifully charred, pineapple cut squid! The chillis weren't hot, they had a fruity sweetness and quite mild heat which made them dangerously edible. The meringue was a sweet meringue, I don't know what the go with that was.
We got the sizzling plate of churrasco which I thought came with more than just meat. It did not, not even a sauce to cut through the meatiness. The picanha was okay, its a rump beef cap that wasn't cooked enough that the fat could render, the chicken thigh was a touch dry, I couldn't bite through the chicken heart from braces but Nanxi enjoyed them and lastly the chorizo was the best bit outta this plate.
We got the churros to share between us which was good because we could've easily had a plate each. It came with ice cream but I asked for it on the side due to lactose intolerance life. The churros pictured were actually quite long about a good 20cm, quite thin with a perfect golden brown CRUNCH, they were only lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar which is nice because I hate it when I order cinnamon sugar and get churros in my order. The dulche de leche was lickable off the plate, Nanxi scolded me when I suggested we try so we just kept trying to scrape it off the plate.
All in all, the entrees were excellent, the main of the churrasco was disappointing but the churros sealed the deal for excellence. We got some drinks too but they weren't anything too memorable. I would definitely try this place for half price night, the atmosphere isn't bad either with a nice dark room and good music playing.
Took a trip to James St and decided to try Fogata due to the great reviews on Trip Adviser. I was really looking forward to some tasty South American food.
In general the service was great, staff were very helpful and service was quick. Food portions were quite small for the price and not as tasty as I imagined.
The Mohito was lovely and all food and drink were presented perfectly.
Lovely place with a fantastic atmosphere. The cocktails were great and the staff were excellent at helping choose from the dinner menu. The small South American band really added to the atmosphere without being too overwhelming. We really enjoyed the food and will definitely be back.
Try the tapas a lovely selection BUT the seafood paella is really something. We teamed it with an Argentinian White which opened beautifully!! A great combination. Finished with the churros - exquisite. The live music made it!
Really a 4. 5. Vibrant happy waitresses who love their work
It was such a lovely dining experience . Foods were great . Pull pork was so tasty and tender . It was like melting in your mouth . Great atmosphere too . Would def recommend this place !
