Review Libertine Restaurant & Cocktail Bar - Brisbane

We arrived after making an online booking for an anniversary dinner at Libertine's. I had requested a table where we could sit next to each other, and we were offered a private booth which provided a private and intimate setting to our dining experience. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and were happy to talk to us about all the dishes we ordered. We ordered a range of dishes to try, and we enjoyed very single one. Each dish had a unique set of textures and flavours. The tiger prawn croissants and the pork belly were our favourites. Overall, we had a great evening at Libertine's and we'll definitely return to try more items from the menu.

What a delightful find. Went here with a group of mothers for a night out. Amazing cocktails. Delicious food. Flavours were fresh. We shared a number of dishes but there were options for various prices banquets available. The staff were attentive and informative. A really enjoyable experience. Parking is available underneath for a fee, if you book online you save quite a bit so would recommend doing this. Definitely will be returning.

Enjoyed the vegetarian lunch time banquet and would highly recommend! Well presented, generous portions and sensational flavours. Definitely come with an empty stomach! The restaurant itself is quite opulent and well maintained. Great location with plenty of nearby parking.

Came on a fairly busy Mother's day night so it wasn't too unexpected that most of the staff were quite occupied and a bit over it, but the 2-3 min wait to be tended to when we arrived felt far too long and we felt a bit unwelcomed. In brief, the food was generally of acceptable quality, with some like the magic mushroom dish (not pictured) and the duck pancakes a bit disappointing. Was expecting quite a bit more from dishes at this price point. The cocktails on the other hand were very nice, and the service became better through the night as it got less busy. If the service and quality/taste of food happen to be improved on ordinary nights I might consider coming back but otherwise, I would opt for something else.

Went for a vegetarian banquet experience. We weren't disappointed. We had a 7 course vegetarian. Struggled to finish it by the end. But each and every dish was wonderful. The sauces, salads, crepe etc.. Everything was wonderful. Ambience is nice and romantic. Ideal for a date. The service by Kevin was wonderful from start to finish. Very professional, polite and accommodated all our requirements, legend! Loved the experience and would definitely want to do it again.

We settled for the Libertine Long Lunch which was a 4 course set menu. Regret not going off the a la carte menu. Would have wanted to try some other dishes. Loved the tiger prawn croissant. The dessert platter and the chocolate fondant was the highlight for me, which was not part of the long lunch menu.

There's a reason Libertine has been around for so long. The food and service is consistently good. I love feed me/banquet style places because I love trying lots of different foods and Libertine doesn't disappoint. I wish they'd change their menu a little more frequently though, so I return more frequently to try other food.

The perfect mix of fine dining, inviting atmosphere, and excellent portions. Fusion cuisine at its best, and the restaurant clearly knows and crafts its menu expertly. The long lunch for $39 per person is exceptional value for money-- the pickled watermelon with the pork belly is a perfect combination and a perennial favourite. The range of drinks has something for everyone and staff have excellent recommendations if you aren't sure or want to try something new. A great venue for dates, casual get togethers, family or work events, and manages to straddle the line between pleasing for gourmands and approachable for new or less adventurous palates.

I came here last night with my significant other and I can’t express how amazing it was! The chicken stir fry and the lamb were cooked perfectly and the dessert was to die for. To top it off, the service was fantastic, G and the other two lovely ladies that were working were nothing but kind, considerate and constantly had a smile on their faces. They made my birthday night perfect and if I could rate any higher than 5, I would

Went to Libertine for a birthday - thanks Catherine and Nathan 10 person 7 course set menu (I think set menu may be compulsory for larger groups). The food was excellent - each course really was great, and there was plenty; unfortunately we didn't finish it all. Duck pancakes, can be a bit of a cliche, were really good and they made them special - pork belly awesome. It get a bit meaty but that's no problem for most. Service was excellent - the waitress in the outdoor bar (where we started) was really attentive and the waitress for our table was pretty sharp too. No hiccoughs. Great food and service.

This restaurant is well designed, staffed, and organised. The food was tasted great and there were plenty of options for people who are coeliac gluten free. The food was well prepared and came out within a good time frame from order with an efficient order and timing such that there was something always on the table to eat. I would recommend for anyone who suffers from coeliac disorder.

AMAZING!! The staff were so accommodating and lovely. Me being a worry wart they kept my mind at ease and catered for a memorable and wonderful birthday dinner of 20 people!! The food was incredible as well as the drinks and the atmosphere was perfect 👌🏼 I highly recommend the Moreton bay bugs from the menu its is soooo delicious! Cannot thank you enough for the wonderful night I had. Thank you libertine 💕

So much delicious food, Wagyu beef dumplings, barramundi spring rolls etc. spectacular. Our second visit. Amazing both times. Full marks to the staff as well.

The staff were friendly and very helpful and the food was just simply tasty and fresh with great combinations and delicious flavours. All presented beautifully. Thoroughly recommend it for an enjoyable night out

The best of the best. Food is fantastic as is the service. Never been disappointed. Always something different and exciting on the menu. So much to choose from. Hard to explain, get on the website and explore the menu, get ready for a great culinary adventure.

I popped in to Libertine with a friend for the $39 five course Monday Banquet and it was beautiful. The food was fresh and flavorsome. The service was fantastic. Both my friend and I had dietary requirements and the staff cheerfully changed the set menu items for us. Highly recommended.
Alanna Whiteside
Glad we booked as it was really busy but staff were still really attentive to our group. Food was amazing and as I have GF dietary requirements this was catered for well. Only 2 dishes in the 7 course banquet were amended and was still delicious. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to find a reason to go again!!

Loved it! Went with friends, We had the 7 course banquet and each dish was perfect. They all complemented each other very well. Our waiter was Derek, who was amazing. Great service and great food! Yummy cocktails too!

Fantastic food....2nd time I have been there and the food was just sensational both times. Service great....cater for the pre football crowd and fine dining experience Can't say a bad thing about this place

Celebrated my sister's 50th here and we were blown away! Fabulous food, delightful cocktails and staff friendly and attentive. Even sang happy birthday to my sister with a sparkler in her dessert. We could not be happier. Thanks guys, we had a great night!
Fran Lenz
The food was delicious! And the cocktails sooo good! And the customer service was awesome! Our waiter made birthday celebrations very special
Lizzie Henebery
We had the 7 course banquet with matching wines and every single mouthful promoted an eye-closing moment to fully realize the incredible flavours going on in each dish. We were blown away and truly enjoyed every part of our experience at Libertine.
Bridget Gavin
The seafood banquet was just brilliant. So balanced. Just delicious. Standouts were every course but the Yelliw Curry Prawns were amazing. Not forgetting the brûlée. Thank you. Divine food and service.
Kim Steiner
Came here to celebrate my birthday and had a nice time. Wait staff were polite but the food came out at random times so we didn't get to enjoy our meals together. Forgot our chicken and when we finally got it, it was quite rubbery and not the nicest cut of meat. The bread didn't taste fresh at all. The wagyu beef dumplings sauce was amazing, the cocktails were amazing and the creme brulee was amazing but the rest of the food was average.

Took the family on Father's day.

We have been a couple of times before - but were worried about some of the odd crazy-low scores that we'd seen on reviews - we wondered if it had lost its mojo.

Absolutely awesome meal

The starters were fought over by the family - negotiations quickly turned to attempts at downright plate smash and grab. We had the Braised Angus Cheek Dumplings, Vietnamese Organic Pork Spring Rolls and Mushroom, Tofu & Smoked Speck San Choi Bao.

Still I worried about those reviews - maybe we had just been lucky with the trouble-causing starters ??

We chose individual dishes to share instead of the selection / banquet options.

I was relieved we did as we went for the larger Bug Curry option and it was a stunner. The pork belly was perfect and I also really enjoyed the Crispy Baby Barra.

Desert heralded another fight across the table - the Banana Beignets were my fav, just ahead of the Creme Brulet and Choc Hazelnut Fondant.

We won't be leaving it so long between drinks again !

To those who left bad reviews - whaaaaaat !
RichEats
We dined here early one evening and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Food was excellent, the stand-out dish probably being the pork belly. Good selection of beers, cocktails, etc.
The Gluten-Free Foodie
We ate at Libertine on a Monday night and shared three meals between two people. Given gluten intolerance I was interested in the GF options on the menu, of which there are many. The waitress advised her favourite dishes are the chicken stir-fry, pork belly and prawn fried rice. We bought all three and each were filling and delicious! It was a little too much food even though we were hungry. It’s hard to compare them due to the different flavours but my favourite was the chicken.
The decor and atmosphere was lovely and the waitress was great. Would love to go back to try some drinks on a busier night. Would definitely be back.

I've been here a few times before, some good but then a couple of not so good so it's been a couple of years since I've been back. Based on positive reviews, I decided to give it another shot but this is absolutely the last time. We had a selection of small dishes, most were rather bland with the exception of the duck pancakes which were lovely...even the beef cheek dumplings; the sauce was amazing but the dumpling filling was bland. Finished with the papaya salad which was disappointing as well. Look, nothing was actually bad but for the price tag I expect much better than an average meal & this was definitely average.

Great atmosphere, amazing service and a well thought out menu. Thoroughly enjoyed both times I have visited here, and will make it our regular when visiting Brisbane

I’m not sure what others have seen in this venue but tonight we had 5 star bland.
We decadently chose the 10 course degustation and while the San Chou Bao and the chat potatoes were ok the rest just left us massively disappointed.
The chicken stir fry had no spices or flavours that you would remotely associate with Vietnamese food.
The first bowl was sent back as it was cold.
How does stir fried food that is supposed to come from a wok get cold from kitchen to table?
If I’d been served this dish in a shopping centre eatery I would still have expected more.
The Pork Belly hadn’t been cooked long enough and was still full of white fat and it had zero flavour or spices.
When you think French and Vietnamese you think fresh flavours, spices along with subtle finesse.
You will get none of that here.
I had 1 glass of wine and the bill was $200 for 2 people.
To the owners and chefs, please take a little pride in what you do. Please!
Grounded Gourmet Globe-Trotter
Libertine - where French and Vietnamese cuisine comes together to an explosion of exotic flavours through their exquisite spread! We happened to be there during their happy hour of 5-6pm where every entree dish, you get two for the price of one through their ‘double the love’ offer. Enjoyed every bite of their spread and can not wait to go back and try every other item on the menu!

Perhaps the best food I've ever eaten, from the entrees to desserts that we selected. The staff were incredibly friendly and were quick to help, but not too pushy and frequent like in some high end restaurants. The food arrived in a timely manner and we never once felt like we were waiting. I cannot fault this restaurant, even down to the lighting that made for a great, cozy atmosphere.

Absolutely delicious! Went for my birthday, they sat is in a nice quiet spot which was appreciated as the restaurant can be a little noisy. We had the 'choose your own 6 dishes' on Tuesday and everything was superb! It was the perfect amount of food for 2 people and everything was so well cooked and flavorsome. We started with Popcorn chicken, san choy bau and scallops, then the twice cooked pork belly, wagyu steak and papaya salad. It's really hard to choose a favorite, because literally everything was amazing, but the Pork belly was probably the highlight. So nice to see so many GF options on a menu and feel like everything you are eating is fresh and made with quality ingredients. The service was also fabulous and we could not have had a more perfect night. Thank you!

After watching a show at the Spring Hill Reservoir on Friday with friends we all decided to go to the barracks to see if we could get a bite to eat. Everything was closed however Libertine were prepared to let us order its bar menu. Lovely ambience, snacks were yummy as share plates, wine was amazing and given how late it was Ann's we were the last table there the service was excellent. Really excited about going back for a main meal.
Phil Arnold
Really disappointed. The outdoor area was unavailable due to works. Inside was so loud with a large group of ladies having a grand old time but cackling. The 10 flys that kept attacking us were not the fault of the place but annoying. The service stated well but then became nonexistent. Really wanted to finish with 2 espresso martini’s but with staff too focused on setting up for dinner they miss out on that $32. Overall nice food but not value for money.

We booked here Sunday night for my husband's birthday and what an experience!! Our waiter was a very friendly and knowledgeable America guy who helped us pick tasty cocktails from the extensive menu! We ordered the 10 course banquet and boy was it a lot of food! We ended up taking most of the dishes home. Delicious food, beautifully presented, and very reasonable in cost. Highly recommend!
Andrew
Been here a couple of times before, but tonight we decided to try the 7 course banquet. For $59 pp it was good value, with a salmon tartare to start, followed by BBQ duck crepe and a Vietnamese salad it was a great start. The main dishes of twice cooked pork belly and spiced lamb rump arrived, both dishes well cooked and well presented. The crackling on the pork belly was just right and the lamb tender. With a papaya salad and a Creme brûlée to finish off a great banquet. Service here was first class and the menu is diverse and well put together. I think if you chose a banquet, or ordered from the menu you will find great dishes at Libertine.

Great spot with 2 free hours of on site parking!
Lovely dining hall with an outdoor area if you don’t mind street noise and heat.
Warm welcome, friendly efficient service.
Lovely leather bound menus and wine list.
If you don’t opt for a share banquet of some sort it’s expensive and the meals are better if you add rice/ potato etc....
Wine list is good but wines by the glass are limited.
Edamame - yum.
Scallops (not in shell) at $6 per scallop is ridiculously expensive. My crispy skinned pork belly was delicious, loved the cabbage accompaniment, but yes, it needed more....
My friend had san choy bow which oddly came with wedges of iceberg rather than the usual leaves/ cups....made eating it so difficult for her.
Anyway, it busy at all on a Saturday afternoon.... wonder why?
We skipped dessert and coffee.

Terrible service. Had my birthday dinner here, i booked for 19 people and got the most expensive banquet. All the food was so salty we couldn't eat anything, but i can understand if the food wasn't that great but the service was a completely disaster. Wait staff bring out entree dishes all the spoon on the plate were nearly falling out on the table. Their staff drop the food on my friend and only say sorry. First and last time. Spending $1500 for a bad service and salty food. Never come back

We ordered the set meal 35pp consisting of the scallops, lamb mince in betel leaves, followed by the pork belly with pickled watermelon, papaya salad and wagyu beef. Could not fault the seamless harmony of flavours. The set menu also came with a drink for each of us. The atmosphere rings true to the East-meets-West fusion feel of the restaurant and despite the flies coming in from outside we would not be able to fault the experience. An undiscovered gem for myself and my family, we will be back!

Incredible food and service every time I've been. Came back a couple of nights ago for the 10 course banquet, it was amazing. Loved every course especially the twice cooked pork belly, Japanese scallops, grilled waygu beef and beef wrapped in betel leaf. A perfect dessert to end the night, chocolate beignets with coconut ice cream and caramelised banana.

We booked our table and arrived on schedule. Our table was beautifully set. We sat and were offered water and given the drinks menu in lovely leather bound menu holders. Once we ordered drinks we were presented with the food menu which also offered a banquet option. The table all decided on a few entrees and some larger dishes to share. The smaller dishes arrived first then larger meals and sides came to the table. The scallops were a real highlight. Also the service was very good. The food was well flavoured and beautifully presented.

The quaint atmosphere and incredibly affable staff help make this a stellar dining experience. The food is superb and playful, just like the wait staff.

Went here for date night on Saturday. We made reservations a few days ahead via their website, and was pleasantly surprised to get a phone call from the restaurant to confirm our table in the afternoon.

We decided to skip entrees and ordered two of the larger share plates - the Jungle Curry, which was a deliciously spicy vegetarian stir fry, and the Crackling Pork Belly, which had perfect crackle and a good balance of sweet and sour accompaniments. Along with drinks (they have an extensive drinks selection), we were quite full following these two large plates and unfortunately didn't get a chance for dessert.

Prices were pricey but for reasonable portions. Service was efficient - waiters were coming and going, however it's difficult to flag someone down. Ambience was okay - discordant music, loud bustling conversations; maybe more of a friends' outing rather than an intimate date night.

What an absolutely outstanding meal (10 course banquet) - so many perfect dishes! Service was spot-on too - attentive, but unobtrusive. This was our third visit to this restaurant and it never disappoints. PS: didn't expect the dessert to be anything fancy, but it too was amazing (banana doughnuts and coconut ice-cream with toffee'd bananas, garnished with edible flowers). By the way - the music is really great!

Lovely food but a tad $$. We had edamame, prawn ricepaper rolls and fried spring rolls. All really delicious. Duck pancakes were my favourite! We sat outside and it was really pretty but really hot! Cocktails and drinks are very overpriced and service was a bit slow. I enjoyed the food but not sure I'd rush back.

A. Maze. Ing! So much food for the $65 a head banquet.. Initially i was dubious about the price but we all left happy & full. Awesome decor & attentive staff despite their busyness. This is probably the 4th time I've dined here & I've not left disappointed yet! The pork belly was the highlight for me.. Enjoy!

I took my husband to Libertine last week for his birthday and was disappointed. We had the lunchtime special and apart from the pork belly the food was very ordinary. Might have been better off ordering individual plates. Won't be back.

I'd been wanting to dine here for a long time after liking the page on Facebook and always seeing it's photos and deals of delicious food. Being a Monday night we wanted to have the banquet, I called in advance to make sure it could be gluten free and this was not a problem. After being seated we waited a little while before ordering, at this stage I was getting rather hungry and said to the lovely waitress 'we're so hungry we'd like to order right away' knowing that we were going to have the Monday night special banquet for 2 (gluten free) I didn't even look at the menu. Out rolled the food! It was amazing and my friend being a celiac was very much impressed with all the gluten free options. But we couldn't get over how much food was being served and commented to the waiters continuously about this. We were in a heavenly food state of delirium when we were told dessert was on its way! All this for $35 per head! Amazing! Then the bill arrived.......$60 per head!!!! Because I said the magic words 'we're so hungry' the waitress took this as meaning that I would like to order the 'I'm hungry banquet' which I didn't even know existed! The staff were very understanding about this and we paid the $35 per head banquet that we thought we had ordered. We were giggling all the home. My only critique would be to clarify the order with the customers to make sure everybody is getting what they wanted. Not that I'm complaining, I'm not going to have to eat for another few days after that stunning banquet feast!

Great food. Good service. Good vibe. Have passed it many times but never had a reason to give it a try. Now I can't wait to get back for another meal.

Libertine scores a 5 out 5 for me. We had the most wonderful group dinner there on last Saturday night and everything was perfect. We arrived early for pre-dinner drinks and we were greeted by friendly and professional staff who ensured we were kept hydrated, and who managed to organise numerous drink orders as various people arrived. They did so while keeping their cool and never making us feel as though we were a bother. This is what good service should be, but seems difficult to find in Brisbane.

We then went over to our tables for dinner, and despite several last minute cancellations and having a number of people with particular eating requirements, the waiting staff took our orders and accommodating every request, again while making us feel as though nothing was too much trouble.

The food when it arrived was just magnificent. We had the $55 Banquet and the food was plentiful and delicious. I never thought a salad could be healthy and delicious before my night at Libertine. I left feeling quite virtuous. The chicken and pork belly dishes were magnificent. Everyone at the table was making contented noises about the food and everyone ate more than they needed to. The food was that delicious. One or two of our guests managed to squeeze in dessert, the Mandarine Creme Brûlée. It was apparently delicious. It was hoovered up before it made it to my end of the table.
The restaurant has such a wonderful atmosphere; the paper lanterns provide a beautiful ambience and the the little covered areas create a market place/village feel, so that even though there are people all around you, it feels quite private and cosy.

The drinks list is extensive and delicious. I loved how they take old favourites and play around with them to bring them up to modern palate sensibilities. There is a drink here for every tastebud.

The crowd seemed to be made of people of all ages and all seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had the best night, and came away feeling as though we could do it all again the following night. I will be returning to try Happy Hour on a Saturday afternoon; I need to work my way through their extensive cocktail list.

Thank you again Libertine and your wonderful staff.
Olivia Waterson
Dined with Libertine this past Saturday and enjoyed every moment. Celebrating an anniversary with my partner, Libertine pulled out all the stops. With a intimate booth in the couples section of the dinning room, the atmosphere for such an event was spot on. Libertine has an expansive wine and cocktail menu and are willing to stray from those listed as well. My parter has a severe nut allergy and our waitress was more than helpful, explaining our options. Overall an extremely enjoyable experience, definitely will be returning soon.

An enchanting place to go to! With the fairy lights set up outside and the dark candlelit indoor this is a great place to go for a nice secluded night out! Great service and we were attended to promptly. The food was lovely, with the crab croquettes, pork on sugarcane skewers and chicken skewers being absolute lovely. Salt and pepper squid was a little different and not really to my liking (the batter was not that great plus the sauce underneath was grey and a little off putting). Cocktails were absolutely devine!!! They have great specials throughout the week, I might go back for a mid week visit!!!

Disappointing. food just OK. Papaya salad had too much water in it. Curry had hardly any sauce. The vietnamese lemonade was mainly a big glass of ice. The service was very slow. 1/2 hour wait before our first dish. Despite asking all dishes to come together we had one dish 1/2 hour after ordering and then we had to wait another 1/2 to get the remaining. the decor is fabulous but I am not sure we will come back despite living in the neighbourhood
Alli
Disappointed. Squid and San Chow Bow were nice but the char siu chicken was disgusting! No apology, paid full price. Service was very slow, not interested in the paying customers. Not recommended.

My first time to Libertine. Bought the end of financial year voucher for 2 to celebrate anniversary. Went during lunch on Sunday. We were lucky as it wasn't busy. The customer service was very good.

It seems like 6-course banquet was too much for 2 person but we did enjoy the meals and managed to shared a dessert.

Some of the food can be more spicy though. Just personal preference =)

You can always count on Libertine for a good night out, I have been coming to Libertine for a while and I always leave fuller and jollier than when I walked in. The staff are attentive and friendly and always down for a joke and a chat.

The food is consistently delicious they recently updated the menu with some tasty changes, but I'm still a sucker for the Duck Crepes and Spring Rolls!

My favourite time to go is on a Sunday afternoon in the courtyard, with a couple of tunes playing and some $5 happy hour bevvies and $10 cocktails as well if you fancy (Hello Espresso Martinis!) I think happy hour is on most days of the week as well.

I'm constantly recommending Libertine as my restaurant of choice close to the city, for something a little special or just a good night out.

Food amazing , Atmosphere fabulous, Staff helpful. Will be back!
We went on a Monday night and did the Movie and Dinner meal. There was so much incredible food. We couldn't believe it. Do yourself a favour and go

Can't speak any more highly of a restaurant! Dined here last week before a movie and let me tell you, the food is fantastic (get the pork belly, you won't regret it) and the service was so friendly. Felt welcome from the get go and it was nice and cozy inside. Will definitely be back to make my way through the rest of the menu!

Came here with my brother for a few late afternoon drinks and decided after a couple of nice cocktails to have a bit to eat as well. We sat outside in the leafy courtyard area, which had a cool and relaxed vibe about it and cute, quirky tables. The staff were prompt to fix us up with plates and give honest advice about what to order once we had said what we were feeling and the food was quick and delicious. The duck crepes were our starter, with a sauce that I was actually licking off my fingers. Then the San Choi Bao, which was fresh and healthy, and finally the yellow Goat Curry. The meat was beautifully tender, the sauce was full of flavour and it was just spicy enough to appease my brothers appetite for the like, without being too much. Only thing to mention however is that the serving was huge! (We were warned to only order a share plate between us if we weren't too hungry, but the menu was too appealing to cut down our choices to less than three). We did get to take the leftovers home though so no complaints really. Good wine list as well, we had a bottle of grenache/shiraz which was outstanding for the price. Beautiful venue with beautiful people. Can say no more

Great spot in the historic Paddington Barracks. I came in last week with the girlfriend on Tuesday night and was told they do a make your own banquet. We ended up getting the crab croquettes, spring rolls, tuna rice paper rolls, turkey san choi bao, pork belly (oh gawd it was soooo good) and a papaya salad. Pretty decent for $49 per person. We also helped ourlseves to a choccy fondant.
The food and service were superb and the staff were exceptional in explaining to us the dishes. 11/10 would dine again :)

While the service was somewhat slow and inattentive, the food at Libertine was mostly good. Our meal consisted of a chicken salad, crab croquette and fried squid which were passable, with pork belly and a papaya salad that were much more agreeable. The drinks list is not particularly well paired to the food, but has enough selection to please most dinners. Though they could improve service with an increase in staff, the ambient outside lighting and well-crisped pork more than made up for it. Overall a pleasant restaurant for its price range.
SpicyRamekin
I was a bit wary about Libertine based on the mixed reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised with the variety and quality of the food on the menu. The papaya salad was the highlight of my meal, and the lighting and ambience were on point. The only thing I can fault was the service which was rushed at times, and the pretty limited wine list.
Selene Tam
Pork belly was a bit too tough. However, the cauli popcorn has great flavours to it. Restaurant was pretty empty on a Sunday night and yet the service was horrible. Will probably not return.

We went for dinner on Friday night & were informed there was a new menu. As I've never been disappointed in anything they've served up, we decided to go the 7 course menu so we could try a selection of new dishes. Big mistake! I can't say a single dish was worth returning for. By the time it got to the final dish of overly salty pork belly, we'd had enough & left most of it. We did mention to the waitress on paying that the new menu wasn't up to their previous standard. As usual, the waitstaff were wonderful so no complaints there. Perhaps it's teething problems with new dishes but I doubt that's the problem with the new menu. I can't understand wiping off most of the previous dishes as they were incredible, maybe a few minor changes would have been the way to go? Sadly, we won't be returning whilst this menu is being served.
MacDog
I can never fault the food here - always delicious - full of flavour and quite generous with the servings. We arrived at 6 on a Wednesday and within the half hour it was bustling with guests. This meant we often were left waiting to order another drink and staff seemed run off their feet (could hear them walking around on the wooden floors quite loudly, accompanied by the constant ringing of their phone). This was fine though and we waited patiently. We ordered the 7 course (2 share) banquet at $55 PP - an absolutely great deal. This usually has a set menu; however tonight we could choose. We ate (did our best) at 3 entrees and 2 mains which all came promptly and were extremely pleased AND very full. Despite our full tums we were more than happy to have a good go at consuming our last 2 mains. However, 45 minutes had past and by this time we were fully satisfied and done eating and ready to head home. We got up and paid the bill and let our waiter know of our situation. He was very apologetic and took 2 drinks off our bill. We will be coming back - but will be ordering only a couple of meals- it was way too much food. The red duck curry was my favourite - followed by the pork belly!
Ange
Went here last night and it was amazing! We chose the 7-course menu option and couldn't finish the last two courses because we were so full already. The service was attentive and food was brought extremely quickly. Yummy cocktails too :) Completely packed for a Saturday night with a great atmosphere. Definitely recommended!!

Libertine is one of my favourite restaurants, yet I don't go there nearly as often as I should. I don't know why - mad I guess. My most recent visit with was a girlfriend prior to heading out to the Comedy Gala - so unfortunately our time was somewhat limited.

However we still decided to go with the "I'm Hungry" option - crazy really as we couldn't truly do justice to all the food that appeared - so I need to return with hubby (who is a bigger eater) and actually give "I'm Hungry" another go and not leave so much on the plates.

We had a lovely table inside - I love the fitout at Libertine - hence why it is one of my favourite restaurants - is just feels decadent and fabulous. We decided to celebrate and share a bottle of Louis Roderer - nothing could be more perfect on a summer Saturday evening with gorgeous french-viet street food.

Then our banquet started to appear. With crab and cracker coconut chilli crab, flash seared japanese scallops, san choi bao with fried port, jungle curry, green papaya salad and bbq duck crepe - we were in heaven. And soooo much food - I was surprised how big the servings were to be honest - extremely good value for money. Every bite was perfection and I was so disappointed that I couldn't sit there longer and enjoy things with a little less "rush", but that's our own fault.

Service was sublime with our lovely waiter proving to be friendly and attentive. And we enjoyed it all so much, that we returned after our "gig" to enjoy a few espresso martinis out in the courtyard later in the evening.

Another fabulous meal at Libertine that just reminds me why I really really should go there more often!

Read the advertisment of this restaurant on the Qantas magazine while I was travelling to Melbourne for holiday during Christmas. Made a not to explore it after I came back to Brisbane. Had dinner last Saturday and found its venue is quite large. The vibe inside at inside and alfresco dining areas are different, whereas, inside set-up is elegant while the outdoor is free and causal. Service was very friendly and attentive. Ordered the $55 per head & shared courses banquet. General impression was so so nut portions were more than enough that we could not finish them. Although they focus on serving fusion of Vietnamese and French but I could not tast any trace of them. Sand crab on Betel was bland and the serious let down should be the pork belly, which I could not enjoy the crackling skin because it was too hard that I don't want to see my dentist. Tastes of the others were good, particularly the marinated chicken was the hero. May I suggest the chefs not giving two chicken dishes and two pork dishes in a seven courses banquet. More varieties of proteins would be much appreciated. Having said that this restaurant is defintiely a good place for gathering, which was proved by the joyful facial expressions from those diners who were all indulging in their parties.

My friends and I dined there and we thought the services was quite obnoxious and harsh.

The portions are irregular, as in some sharing plates are good for 3, but some are really tiny - considering they are all in the same price points.

Wouldn't recommend. Food wasn't that special.

Came in last night for dinner. Definitely over-priced but still delicious. Yummy mushroom dumplings, however they were $5 each and quite small. The "san choy bow" was authentic, and we received great service from staff.

the cocktails and cocktail service is great. the food is very expensive mass catering style food. Not much attention to detail and flavour and not very large portions. Not very good for the price and the food service is indifferent. Wouldn't recommend eating here.

Once again welcomed and taken care of by the one and only gorgeous Czahny - beautiful food and cocktails - and great wine advice. One of those rare places you can take people on a whim
And know it will be an amazing experience every time. Thank you

I dont recommend this overpriced restaurant. Entrees took one hour to come out of the kitchen. For our banquet they placed one type of entree on a single plate at one end of a long table and didnt tell everyone they could only take one each and then pass the plate along. When the wait staff were questioned as to why they didn't place the entrees on a number of plates, he "huffed" and seemed unable to comprehend why anyone would want to do this.

The original waiter went to the kitchen to seek backup, he returned with an equally "huffing" waiter. While extra entrees were provided, the staff really struggled to help us.

The pulled pork was dry.

Waiting staff were not polite and did not attempt to assist customers.
Sophie
The banquet is very generous and has a good selection of dishes from the menu. The vegetable curry with rice cakes was the highlight and the service in general was quick and attentive.
Albino Diner
What a big disappointment. Arrived on a Thursday night at 7:00, pretty empty (but is a BIG place). Our friendly but oddly high strung maitre d sits us at the worst table in the place (tiny table pushed into a corner). We ask to move. he puts us at the second worst table (by the door to the courtyard). So we move ourselves. There are MANY great booths, completely empty. ALL reserved ???? Surely not.
We order - the crab and betel leaf entree left us searching for some flavours. Nice amount of moist crab, one betel leaf that covered maybe one third of the 'cracker' and one minute shred of lime leaf. Very boring and very akward to eat, kept falling apart on the plate. Next up the scallop, which was perfectly cooked, moist and subtle Japanese flavours. But at $8 for one scallop on a spoon? Needs to be amazing. Then the duck pancakes - nice, flavourful, but its just store bought roasted duck with hoisin sauce, so ... and isn't this place supposed to be french / viet ? So far, we'd had bland Thai (and THAT'S a good trick), Japanese and then peking duck???? Menu a bit confused and underwhelming
At this point, we couldn't take the music any more. Klassic hits of the 50s and 60s ???? Like "Big Girls Don't Cry" it was ME crying by this point. How about some Edith Piaf? Or some jazz? Or anything but Frankie Valley and the 4 Seasons "Oh what a night! late September back in 63...." The staff were apologetic, but said it was the owners soundtrack.
Then the witness poured still water into our sparkling water glasses and slopped it all over the table, so much fussing with wet napkins (paper napkins)
Then the mains arrived. The slow cook beef ribs were beautiful (hence the one point), melty buttery meat, gorgeous. And, the Pork Belly. So tough we need a steak knife. Tough pork belly???? How do you make tough pork belly? We sent it back and said No Thanks to a replacement.
At this point, we asked for the cheque and went home for ice cream and laughs. It was Faulty Towers meets Gordron Ramsey. With so many great places in Brisbane? Give this a miss ....

Honestly couldn't fault our dinner experience at Libertine. Being my husband's birthday, they had noted my request for a quite table when booking online, and all staff we encounted made a fuss to wish him well (which I loved, but he was embarrassed by!) We ordered the banquet which was a huge amount of food, even for hubby who has a very manly appetite. Pared with a well recommended bottle of red, it was a truly lovely evening. Would certainly recommend.

Great meal, great service and great value for money.
They have daily promos on during Monday - Thursday so great to try out.
Simon is a really friendly waiter and super helpful however

Had dinner there last Friday night, for two. We ordered 6 share plates which arrived within 10 minutes and no-one had even taken a drink order. While we were advised that this should be sufficient for two people, it was woefully inadequate. Ordered more food, but no-one bothered to check if we wanted another glass of wine. We did manage to give a wine order to one staff member, who smiled and never returned!! The food was very ordinary as well.Poor service, poor food and not inexpensive!!

We haven't been to Libertine for years because of a bad experience. We thought we'd try here for dinner Friday night. Booked online and received a confirmation phone call - love that.

The place is as beautiful as it was when it first opened. The menu even seemed similar, but this time the food was delicious and the service friendly and welcoming.

My ginger margherita was strong, and while I wasn't a fan, S devoured what I couldn't drink.

We had a good selection - sand crab pate on crackers (S loved, me not so much); duck pancakes; mushroom dumplings; Japanese scallops; and squid - which were all amazing.

The food came out really quickly - so quickly, in fact, we had sat down at 8pm and had pretty much finished by 8.45pm. That would be my only negative. The food came out too quickly (you normally wouldn't hear me complain about that) but it all came out at once too - no real time to enjoy each dish - it was all a bit hurried, rather than staggered, and no time to sit, relax and enjoy a drink before the onslaught.... But it was only a minor thing. We left and went over to Lefty's very satisfied.

Anywhere with Viet/French fusion cuisine is a must try in my book.

This is one of our favourite restaurants and we try to get there at least every few months. The food is delicious and plentiful and we always leave with our belly's full! I love that they change their menu often too so there's always something new to try. Def. recommend if looking for a romantic night out!

Excellent. You guys have a great formula, please don't change it. The food is just sensational & the restaurant always has plenty of people to get the atmosphere right.

We love Libertine, such an unusual fitout that they have done so well. A great place to catch up with friends and the food is always first class. Great staff & the Barracks precinct always seems to have plenty of people around.

Food was fantastic. Max our waiter was so friendly and helpful. Kudos Max
Matt
Fantastic dinner and great service from Max who made excellent suggestions.

10/10. We visited Libertine on Saturday night and can honestly say the evening was one of the best we've ever had in Brisbane, from the moment we walked through the door we were treated like family. The delicious personalised cocktails on arrival and hilarious conversation with the lovely lady at the bar (Alice?) were an absolute treat and the general attitude, knowledge and professionalism of the staff was extremely impressive. The food was delicious and presented like edible works of art, thankyou so much for a fantastic evening Libertine, we'll be back soon!
Mary

Dinner Friday night 22nd May. We are not from Brisbane. Your restaurant was recommended by a friend. We booked Libertine to celebrate my nephew's 16th birthday, he is at boarding school in Brisbane. We loved the flavour combinations and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The staff were very helpful. Max especially was very service orientated. He was friendly, efficient and explained the food well. 11/10. I cannot recommend this fine dining establishment enough. Staff were patient, very helpful and exceptionally friendly.

I am celiac and our waiter Max after already blowing us away went out of his way to make that our meals were coeliac safe and I was 100% comfortable with the meals.

The bartender also was incredible giving advice and recommendations that were faultless.

It's easy to say that the food and atmosphere at Libertine is outstanding but what pushed it to that next level was the extra effort Max put in, honestly wouldn't of been the same without his presence and he will be the reason we return!

Ken oath. Stephen Lawrie is the best damn waiter I surely have witnessed on God's green earth.....I cannot sing him enough praises

Lovely night. I had the most lovely night at libertine for a beautiful friend's 21st birthday party.
The waiter Stephen Lawrie was amazing !!
Definitely recommend! :)

Also we had a booking for 6:45pm told the table was booked again for 8:45pm and we had to be out by then. In reality no booking for our table at 8:45pm lots of other tables vacant why put pressure on guests when phoning to confirm the booking of this strict 2 hour time for dinner when it's not true?

-----03 May, 2015-----

Love the food, love it, love the decor, the staff are great but the high noise levels are shocking. Especially sitting next to a big table of partying hens. To me Libertine should be about sophistication, quiet conversations not a party party venue... It's not the place to go for a quiet conversant meal or romantic dinner. Went to Lefties afterwards and with triple the people, a band we finally had a decent conversation without shouting at one another like we had to do at dinner. Disappointing that Libertine has sold out to hens nights as a party venue.

Great food, excellent service.. Stopped in here for a quick dinner before a game at Suncorp. We didnt have a reservation, but the lady at the front was very friendly and offered us a nice table outside. We chose the Feed Me option and our waiter reassured us he would bring out everything in plenty of time for the game. Food was lovely, fresh and spicy with the standouts being the San Choi Bow and the beef sirloin. Working in the beef industry myself, I asked if the beef was wagyu as I wasnt sure. Waiter then told "No no, its sirloin no wagoo" (yes he said wagoo not wagyu ). He then proceeded to tell me they used to have a wagyu option "but they changed to the sirloin cos the kitchen was able to just pump them out."
Sigh....
Wagyu is a type (breed) of beef, originally from Japan, typified by a high proportion of intramuscular fat. The amount of this fat is reflected in the "marble score" ; a higher score means higher fat content (and higher price)

A sirloin is a steak cut from the striploin, which is a piece of beef cut from the hindquarter. The striploin is well suited to steaks and is nice and tender.

You can have a sirloin of wagyu beef, or a sirloin of a different type (like Angus).
Then you can also have grass fed, grain fed and organic beef.
So you can have a pasture fed Wagyu sirloin.
None of these terms are mutually exclusive (although wagyu is usually only grain fed)

Maybe a little more time learning the menu for the waitstaff. .....
Still an excellent meal, but i was trying so hard not to laugh when the waiter was so earnestly telling why wagyu wasnt an option.

Bartender Shannon rules!. Just came here for after footy drinks and had Shannon serve us. She knew exactly what she was talking about and as last drinks were called, we left her to surprise the groupnof 5 of us. Let's just say that all 5 of us were extremely impressed with one ofnus.making a reservation for the next day.

Cheers for a great night Shannon!!

Neither of our opening cocktails were very good, definitely a bit of work to be done here, but everything else was superb! The food, the wine, the dessert and the service were all first class and made for a wonderful romantic night.

The whole family happy. I took my wife and family for a birthday treat and discovered a faultless and surprisingly good experience.

The $55 menu is awesome - we added duck pancakes and highly recommend this addition .

Additionally our notoriously difficult 12 year old found enough acceptable and enjoyable - an added bonus.

Superb meal and service.

Fantastic birthday event!. We recently held my husband's birthday celebration at Libertine. Not living in Brisbane currently, we had hunted for a venue for a little while. Having read the positive reviews on various websites and receiving such a positive, helpful response from Libertine, the decision was made. Catering for approx 30 guests outside on the Lantern terrace, Libertine delivered a lovely evening. The food (a mix of noodle boxes and canapes) was delicious and there was a good selection of drinks. Special mention must go to Matt our waiter who was just exceptional. Not only was he courteous and helpful at all times, he kept me updated on the bar tab, timings of food and just knowing he was controlling the logistics allowed me to relax and enjoy the event. Well done Libertine!

Great food, great service. Visited Libertine yesterday to get out of the house during the wet weather aftermath of Cyclone Marcia.
Undercover parking and restaurant access, free for 2 Hours, and had had one previous good experience at Libertine.
Just terrific fusion food made even better by the best waiter service we have had in ages.
Stephen was attentive, efficient but most importantly he made you feel he enjoyed the work and making the customer experience sensational.
Will be going back with our friends
Andrew
Amazing food and amazing service. Love this place. Food is amazing. Drinks are great. Service was great - Gee could not do more to help

Will come back again and again

Amazing food in a pleasant location. I've been here a few times and the food is always superb. Night-times are lovely in the garden area, which is covered so light rain isn't a bother. We usually do shared platters and I think I've tried almost everything and it's all great. Be warned it can be difficult to park on Friday and Saturday nights and if there's an event on at Suncorp.

Love Libertine. My family and I dined at Libertine last night celebrating a special birthday. Atmosphere and food were amazing as always but our experience was made even more special because of the excellent service provided by the staff. Stephen looked after our table and was not only very friendly and professional but gave great assistance in answering our menu queries. Libertine is an awesome way to celebrate any occasion and hopefully I'll get back there again soon. Recommendation: the $55 menu represents great value for money while giving an excellent flavour experience, and we all left more than satisfied with the serving sizes.

Great atmosphere and delicious food. But best of all this restaurant has some of the most friendly and pleasant staff I have ever seen. We opted for the 7 course banquet on the waiters recommendation and it was a great choice. Very well presented and flavoursome dishes which were arriving very quickly even though the place was 90% full. Highly recommended.

The highest quality food and service!. My partner and I visited last night after being told this place was excellent by a friend.
We were greeted warmly at the door and seated promptly. We were offered the "'I'm hungry" banquet and glad we decided on that which was such value for $55 each. All the dishes that came out and were equally delicious. The decor and lighting is romantic and cosy but also suitable for a family dinner.
The staff member Matt was well versed about the food ingredients and preparation. He was extremely friendly and knowledgable. An asset to this restaurant! The other staff were very attentive at plate clearing and filling our water glasses and asking if we wanted more wine. This level of service is rare and we will definitely be coming back and telling all our friends about our experience.
When we left we were told they have different banquet menus and do a sunday $20 offer - this is also rare to be invited back to a restaurant. Libertine have staff that are passionate about their jobs like they own the restaurant! Well done. We can't wait to come back for another delicious meal.

First time at Libertine and it was simply outstanding. The food was fresh & full of amazing flavours, we had the buffet for two and variety was also spot on. The waiter gave excellent service, food knowledge was obvious & catering for our gluten free requirements was easily accommodated. Will not hesitate going back with friends & have possibly found our new favourite restaurant.

Lovely service, and wonderful food. A friend and I came here the other night for dinner, and had such a lovely experience. Our waitress was wonderful, and the food was fantastic. We ordered some cocktails and a bunch of share plates, and couldn't believe how quickly they came out! Thanks guys!

LOVE Libertine. I live nearby to Libertine and I am shocked that anyone writes a bad review about the place. I absolutely LOVE it!! The decor is gorgeous, the food is always superb and the staff are awesome. I don't normally write reviews, but considering all of the bad reviews, I thought I would. If you want low quality food in high quantity no this is not your restaurant. You pay for quality, which is awesome.

Disappointed. So with a title like french viatnamise I was excited to taste viatnamise food with the execution of classic french style and finesse but to say it was tough and tasteless would be and understatement.
I could go on and rip it to bits in detail but I won't, the one saving grace of the libertine was it's staff who were nothing but polite.
Amity
Disappointed expectations. My first experience at Libertine was great, however, today the Christmas banquet was unfortunately on the other end of the scale. We were positioned outside with a toddler in the heat (I had assumed we would be inside so that's my own fault for not checking) if I had been informed of table settings I would have said no. Anyway, long delays in receiving each course, one wait was 40mins & at this point I was ready to leave so my partner decided to ask the waiter if there was a problem & he rudely responded. He later gave us free drinks (2) as a kind gesture for waiting 15mins to receive them. Poorly executed event, food still tasted amazing however more staff & management with more experience in catering for large numbers will be required next time.

You'll Need To Be Carried Out. We've been to Libertine 3 times now and hoping to get a slot for NYE. Very hard to go past the banquet - the dishes are out of the ordinary. By the time you get to the pork belly you'll understand me when I say you'll need to be carried out (very filling). Personally I recommend sitting outside, as inside can be overly 'air con'. Friendly service with a smile, and hard to fault.
Emme
Inconsistent. Really enjoy the food but the wine! Gave up on trying to find one that was drinkable and went with the ginger beer. Not sure how they're going now, but they used to have great difficulty in getting a reservation correct. It's really not that difficult to write someone's name and phone number in a diary. Odd.

Amazing food and staff. I had just diner couple of week ago.. It was great and i definitely be there again!!!thanks heapss

Incredible. This place is simply amazing. The food is heavenly, the wine is always flowing and the service impeccable. The "Czahn-yard" is the place to be; it is free-spirited courtyard dining, smoothly operated by a man who is arguably Brisbane's best waiter, Czahn. Just turn up and say "I'm hungry" and Libertine will take care of you.

Fantastic Restaurant. I had the $55 banquet meal which was amazing and such great value. The food I could not fault and the service was outstanding. I would rate this restaurant 10/10

Love it. Great atmosphere, very good service and the food is innovative and yummy.
highly recommend this restaurant!

Beautiful. We decided to try Libertine after discovering we had some spare time prior to watching a film. We were a bit short on time (exactly 1 hour to spare) which was unfortunate as it would have been lovely to spend a bit longer savouring the food (and so to rectify this we will be going back soon). As it was, the staff were very helpful in accommodating our time constraint and we easily made it out in good time to catch the start of the movie. The food was fantastic. We ordered the "I'm hungry" option (7 courses for $55pp) which is my favourite way to eat because I think the chef should know best. We weren't disappointed. All the dishes were excellent and flavoursome although our favourite was the sliced pork belly with a carrot puree. Divine! We felt very full afterwards (like I say ideally it would have been more leisurely) but I think the quantity and portions were just right, and it represented excellent value for money. The staff were very good - they were all very attentive and professional but didn't come across as being stuffy which was a good balance. Obviously the service was very prompt for all of this to have been executed in 60 minutes. We are looking forward to next time!

Love this Restaurant. We had lunch there yesterday. the food was "out of this world" it was very expensive but very much worth it. Very innovative dishes eg Crab (like a pate) on GF Crackers, Scallops in a lemongrass and peanut sauce Pork Belly with carrot puree, a beautiful duck plate. All shared plates. Once again my husband ordered too much, but it was worth it to try so many beautiful dishes.. Please do yourselves a favour and try this Restaurant. You will love it.
The service was brilliant. There was always a wait person filling our glasses etc. Many Gluten Free options and my daughter was not sick last night so I know it was Gluten Free. Despite the expense we will be back.
Tanya
One of my favourites. Beautifully flavoured dishes prepared with attention to detail and creativity. A lovely atmosphere also. Highly recommended.

Libertine is intimate and indulgent, perfect for a dinner party or date night. Hints of French glamour line the dim-lit interior, and French-Vietnamese inspired food is aesthetic and playful. Friendly smiles and sharp attention to detail means the service at Libertine is hard to fault.
