Seeing that Urbane has been on the "to-do" list for awhile and that it will be unfortunately closing indefinitely, we made a reservation for a weekday dinner.
We chose the 6-course degustation, which turned out to be a 2.5-hour delightful experience with many more courses due to amuse bouche, palate cleaners and additional complimentary treats. Each course appeared carefully designed which showcased culinary techniques and fresh produce. There were nil faults in preparation with good balance of flavours and textures.
Service was friendly and efficient, although the pace appeared slow-ish overall. Smart casual ambience. Prices reflective of quality and fine dining.
Overall, a wonderful fine dining experience and a Brisbane institution.
We had the belly pork starter, beef as a main and fruit creme brûlée for desserts. Had wonderful wines cab sav and a delightful dessert wine.
We had about 10 speeches as everyone wanted to thank the out going boss. Service was prompt and venue was centrally located near our accommodation at the Sofitel.
Birthdays are always a good reason to celebrate and hitting 30 is all the more reason to make it extra special. So for all those wondering, the top of Adam's list of places to go try is Urbane. So being the amazing girlfriend that I am (also top contender for the girlfriend of the year award), I made a booking months in advance to secure us a table.
We decided to do the 7 course meal. I picked the vegan option and my friend had the carnivore version.
The service and the food were amazing. Set menu of 5 or 7 courses.
The food are sourced from the best local producers. They are fresh and of the highest quality.
The carnivore option had dishes such as Abalone, Scampi and Wagyu Beef. All the courses were great. Out of the 7 courses there were no dishes that were below par.
The vegan option are based on the best seasonal vegetables available. It had dishes such roots vegetables, Zucchini Flower and Dahl. The best one was the corn dish. The sauce in that dish should be bottle and sold. I would be happy to have that all the time. With pasta, on top of steak... The 2 vegan desert was ok, especially compared to the carnivore option. Green apple tonka and black rice pudding.
At $155 each person for the 7 course, without wine, it is not a meal that you can do often. For the carnivore option the price were reasonable. I am not sure in regard to the vegan option. This was a question that my friend raised during the meal.
Overall I would go back again, regardless of our opinion on the cost of the vegan option.
Would definitely recommend Urbane.
Just finished an amazing lunch here at urbane Brisbane. Was wined and dined by wait staff, top quality cutlery aside from the chip in my dessert plate. Best dessert list I’ve ever come across in my 36 years ! Highly recommend urbane for a special occasion or function. Well done !
Top restaurant in Brisbane by far! Came to Urbane for a work function and I was served my favourite dish I have devoured thus far. It was a scallop ceviche with pea purée, the chef here has some extreme talent. Beautiful atmosphere here too. Definitely coming here for my next special occasion.
Amazing degustation! We are glad to have experienced chef Ajexandro Cancino's magic before he moves on... dishes are impeccably presented with somewhat of a garden theme and tasted equally complex.

Came here for a dinner with a large group of work colleagues while up in Brisbane for work.
The food was phenomenal - the salmon was so delicate and melted in my mouth.
Dessert was a deconstructed chocolate brownie with beetroot. While it sound unconventional, it was actually quite nice and added a nice twist to an otherwise classic brownie!
My partner and i visited this restaurant for our anniversary. It is expensive but i strongly believe it's worth it. The food is very tasty and unique. Each course is small but very healthy and you won't go back home hungry. A big tick for the ambient. At the end while we were waiting for the bill we were surprised and treated to special drink and dessert which was so lovely. We will definitely go back to Urbane again!
It's such a pleasure to discover a restaurant that does a vegetarian/vegan degustation. Can you imagine being a foodie, yet being served salad, after risotto, after pasta, after gnocchi ... on an endless rotation wherever you go? Urbane far surpasses that.
Imagine how delighted I was from the moment the first dish arrived. Creativity. Flavours that just ... well work! Bread. Fresh out of the oven. Warm, soft and so comforting. Heirloom tomato. So fresh. A perfect balance of flavours on an intricately arranged dish. And so it went on.
Urbane does creative, well presented dishes perfectly executed. Service was polite, professional and catered for our dietary requirements.
On par with any one starred Michelin restaurant I've been to in Europe. And well deserving of it's 3 chef hats.
After visiting Esquire the other night, Urbane definitely deserve their 3 hats. Urbane's outstanding food, wine pairing, service and ambience are far more deserving.
A fine dining experience worthy of a Melbourne or Sydney, with a focus more on flavours than artwork on the plate.
Pumpkin mousse was sublime, as was corn soup served in test tubes like a science experiment. The fish, raviolo and chicken were all outstanding as was the cookies and cream.
Service by all staff was exemplary, particularly Daniel who took time to explain the story behind each matching wine.
Brisbane should be very proud of this gem.
Had a degustation here recently (vegan version on this occasion) and it was one of the - if not the - finest dining experiences of my life. Food and wine - couldn't be faulted. Service - prompt, professional, personal. Decor and ambience - stunning, contemporary Australian. Congratulations to this incredible Brisbane food institution, which has maintained its brilliance over many years now. Make no mistake, this is high end dining - and a finer example of this would be hard to find, anywhere.
Brisbane’s CBD after hours is still a sleepier hub than Melbourne or Sydney. That most likely comes from the fact that most people live outside the city, come in for work, and depart again when they’re done for the day, which doesn’t leave a ready supply of patrons to populate eating establishments outside breakfast and lunch hours. Despite that, there are a few places that have managed to make themselves a niche as destination dining places in the city. Urbane is one of those places.
It is a flawless local gem. I dined in this place at the very beginning of my fine-dining journey after the unforgettable experience from Prive 249 at Brisbane Sofitel. At that moment, I did not know this "low key" restaurant is so famous. I enjoyed the degustation, food, service and ambient all have big ticks. No wonder it is second place on the top 10 best restaurants in Brisbane voted by Gourmet Traveller. Tell you a tip, think about to hold event downstairs at Suburbane, where you can hold function for around 30 guests. I had one done and every guests were so happy on that night.

Had Valentine's Day dinner with my wife tonight and was impressed by their culinary skills. Every dish was delicious to the extent I really wanted more. Beautiful decor with friendly staff. Excellent quality food but very highly priced. Will rate this place 9/10 in total.
Vegan 8 Course Degustation. Incredible.
Great night out. Best dish octopus, wine pairings excellent, wines get a little too sweet at the dessert end
Absolutely fantastic: the venue for that intimate special occasion.. I couldn't fault this restaurant. The service, the food and the drinks were all impeccable. We had the 8 course degustation menu. This was not so much a meal but an experience that I think I will always remember. I've had degustations before and whereas they were all good there was usually a dish or two that didn't hit the mark. Not so with this one. It started very well and just kept building to a an incredible crescendo. The wine and liqueurs were also outstanding, ably supported by an engaging expert sommelier. All the staff were wonderful and this, accompanied with the gorgeous setting made our special night truly memorable. Thank you Urbane. If you have an intimate special occasion you want to celebrate, this is the venue. In fact, just invent one and go. It's definitely not a cheap night out but it's worth it.
My sister and I ordered the vegan and omnivore 5 course degustation. Everything was delicious!! I'm glad I got the 5 course, I was full by the end with all the extra snacks that come with it. Although I might try the 8 in future! The service was fantastic too. Definitely worth every cent, Urbane is amazing.
Brilliant night. I cannot speak highly enough of the food and service at Urbane and the Euro!! I recently organised a function there and we used all three venues at 181 Mary Street. The service was prefessional and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We had a canape package and then two separate dinners in Urbane and the Euro. The food was very good and complimented by everyone that attended. If you are having a cocktail function I recommend the lamb cutlets - to die for!
Amazing. As a vegetarian I.... Amazing.
As a vegetarian I find a lot of restaurants even "fine dining" don't always have tastey vegetarian dishes. I was so thrilled at all the flavours each dish had! Dining like this should not be rushed but appreciated, so please don't listen those complaining that it was no 1 hour meal. Oh and don't even start me on the service! The waiting staff are just amazing and so friendly. My boyfriend and I were trearted like royalty, and who doesnt love that?
Fantastic. The food was amazing & the service was impeccable.. Highly recommend for a special occasion as they look after you very well.
Great night .... ... thank you Urbane for making my sister's birthday so great. Everything we ordered was excellent - so there were a lot of tastings going back & forth without food envy. Such a lovely restaurant, service exemplary and everything felt just so top shelf.
If you have a special occasion or just want to treat yourself or someone special go to Urbane ... they made us feel like celebs!
For a special night. Loved it. I had the vegetarian 9 course and my partner had the non-vegetarian with matching wine.
Interesting, beautifully presented, and great quality.
Very expensive, but once in a lifetime worth it just for the novelty factor. It might not all be finger-licking yummy but what wasn't was still a feast for the eyes.
Awesome food. Seriously good food here, although the portion sizes can leave you wishing you had a little more on your plate. Service is very good, and their wine list is excellent.
A great dining experience. My wife enjoyed the vegetarian degustation and I the omnivorous degustation; both 9 courses with matching wines. The food was very tasty and served in new and interesting ways. Only downfalls were only one meat dish in favour of seafood, as such only 1 red wine through whole meal, and given 9 courses + pricetag I was surprised I wasn't full. Amazing service and food/wine knowledge.
Terrific urbane. Love degustations and this place does it the best. Cannot wait to go again! Service was amazing too. Thank you
Drank duck out of a test tube . . . tick! What a food adventure. Five courses of 'snacks' arrived before our five course dego even began; including aberlonie, king fish and duck's tongue. The dego was truly amazing. I would eat the sour dough if you're ordering the five course, but not the nine. Expensive, and worth every cent!
Simply superb. OK, do not go here if you: are a scoffer that likes their food to come out in 5 minutes from ordering, think big portions = value, like your food without surprises and think a good meal should cost under $50. If you want any of the above, locate your nearest Sizzler. But if you are a foodie, adventurous, like to savour food over an evening and be surprised, this place will blow you out of the water!
Beautiful, delicate food in an intimate setting. Service was faultless. We had the four course degustation with matching wines and were also served 5 surprise canape-style bites to begin with with a beautiful cob loaf on the side. Each element of the dish was carefully explained. Wines matched perfectly. If you are after a large meal then you will be disappointed with this place but if you are more of a foodie and your palette is intrigued by creations of Heston Blumenthal (foams, gases etc) then you've come to the right place!
Flawless service, beautiful food - only a minor detail!. I dined at Urbane with my boyfriend, we had the 9 course degustation menu - one vegetarian.
The food was amazing, and the presentation was beyond anything that I had seen before. In particular the tasting dishes before the degustation were fantastic. The only dish that neither of us enjoyed was the toasted quinoa/ duck beetroot - beetroot overload unfortunately.
The service was flawless and professional, in particular the sommelier. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the staff are fantastic yet unpretentious.
The only disappointment was that when I was contacted earlier in the day to confirm our reservation I told them that it was my boyfriend's birthday - the staff member said that they would organise something 'special' - however this message must have been lost as they forgot!
Best degustation in Brisbane. Recently dined here with friends and enjoyed the 7 course degustation which came with additional complimentary 4 mini-courses of "surprises" from the chef. Our evening was just amazing with wonderful atmosphere downstairs in the cellar, our friendly and professional waitress (Claire I think??), and an adventurous tasting menu showcasing some modern molecular gastronomic techniques. Urbane is now my number 1 spot in Brisbane and I'll be recommending to everyone and anyone who will listen to me! :-) Love it!
Yes. My partner and dined here recently, the food was fantastic and the wine pairing was perfect and explained well. Im not big on wine flavours, but it was done so well. Overall loved it. Thank you urbane for a brilliant evening!
Wow, I had the four course degustation and it was spectacular. The food, service and wine pairings were all perfect. My table of 5 girls all felt full at the end of the night; however my husband would probably still want something more. I am definitely going back.
Fabulous. Loved the 7 course degustation menu plus extras, over a leisurely few hours. From the crispy duck tongue, to the octopus, the wagyu, the pink lady, the macadamia; every dish a delight of flavour and texture with surprising and amusing flourishes. Great service. A memorable meal thank you.
Had an excellent 11 course meal with matching wines. Service was fantastic! Definitely going back again and recommending to others!
Lovely intimate restaurant with exquisite food & impeccable service. We paid about $150 per head (for alacarte) including a bottle of wine & it was worth every penny. The suckling pork was by far the most outstanding. It recently won two prestigious chef hats & i can see why. They even provided a pashmina when I got chilly.
Hurray for Kim. It is a brave restaurant that attempts the whole tasting menu thang here in BNE, it requires commitment on every level including the diner and Urbane is at least in the race compared to better known restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne. Maybe not as life changing as Tets or Rockpool but I have yet to have a bad dinner there and I have only ever had the tasting menu. Oh and the last time I was there, when I turned up the restaurant was empty, I asked to sit at the table I always sat at only to be told that it was booked ... as I didn't have a booking I let it slide, but this isn't Tets (with a 6 month waiting list and truly every table accounted for), the fact that I had a regular table (in my mind) might have alerted the server that I was a repeat customer (this is the kind customer service you want at this level) - the table was later offered to me by the maitre d' who witnessed the whole debacle, but by then the damage had been done ... I have friends that would have walked out for less ... the meal was still terrific but I have NEVER forgotten and interestingly I have never returned
Gorgeous ! We had the degustation 5 course menu and cannot complain ! Beautifully presented , and each course takes you on an adventure ! Service was impeccable !
Had a 12 course degustation matched with wine. Beautifully presented meals with great combinations of flavour and texture. Friendly and knowledgable staff matched with professional service. Gorgeous wines. Food stand outs for me were the Marron, Kingfish & Beef dishes. Had a great night and left very satisfied :-) :-) I definitely would return.
Highly recommended. Came here with my partner for the dessert degustation. Six beautiful, inventive and just plain tasty courses. Service was impeccable, as you'd expect in a restaurant with this price tag. Expensive, but worth it for a special occasion.
We tried the 7 course degustation menu. The standout dish was the beef, which was like a campfire with smokey ash flavours. The lamb melted in the mouth, and the desserts were exceptional. All up, quite a good menu. We were all pleased with this. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was good. The only inprovement was that dishes could have come slightly quicker, given it was a weeknight, but would have been perfect for a weekend night of grazing and chatting. All in all, a very good meal.
Went there for dinner with my fiancé and had the 10 course Degustation menu matched with a glass of wine for every meal. The food was absolutely AMAZING! The service was professional but casual at the same time. Which I preferred as it wasn't too pretentious. The meals were all evenly spaced out, with about a 5 min wait in-between each dish to let us catch our breath. By the 5th meal we stuffed! But managed to get through to the 10th and were amazed with every single dish. You don't go to Urbane for a "feed". You go there to appreciate the art & science behind what the chefs have whipped up. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have their taste buds blown away. I will definately be going back.
Well Done!. Service was excellent, very knowledgeable staff as well as fun and unpretentious. A good mix of flavours through the dishes. The only other observation I would make is that the portions are somewhat small.
Degustation Delight. We love good food and the selection on the degustation menu was deliciously devine. The flavours in each dish so intense especially in the cold cucumber and spearmint leaf palate cleanser. The staff were fantastic and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion (prices fairly up there but well worth it).
For the experience.... It was truly a fantastic culinary experience in that the foods were varied, but I wouldn't go there for a 'meal' as the portions were too small - even for a degustation menu.
Service staff were very nice and knew the product well, but for the 7 dishes we had it took 5 hours and this detracted from the experience.
To be fair, I would try a la carte next time before final judgement.
Pretty good. Urbane has lovely food. Their portions are just below reasonable, produce seems fresh. Service was good. Will try other places before returning though.
Fantastic. Have been here pre and post the 2009 refurb. I think Urbane is outstanding and one of Australia's top restaurants. Would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a truly great fine dining experience.
We are from Melbourne and we visited Urbane based on it's reviews. It was simply stunning. The upstairs bar is an amazing laneway bar that you might expect to find in Melbourne. The restaurant space is very comfortable and the service was attentive. However, the accolades should be saved for the food. Portions were not too large, which meant that entree, main and desert could all be enjoyed. The Pork Belly was succulent, and probably the best I have had in a long time. Main was Wagyu and it was amazing. Dessert was cheese and the selection was amazing. I love thus place and I would have no hesitation in recommending this place.
I'll start by saying the service was simply fantastic.
We ate white rabbit and slow cooked pork for entree, followed by Boggabilla lamb rack and duck breast for main. All were stunning - some of the best food we've eaten in Brisbane, despite that unfortunately they were some of the smallest serving sizes.
We had potato gratin as a side and a selection of cheeses to finish off the night. Again, fantastic. If you're looking for this type of dining experience, that prides itself in the presentation and boundary-pushing flavor concepts - as much as it does the quality of the food beyond that - then you can't go past Urbane.
It turned out to be one if our best QLD dining experiences. And to be frank, it makes the Buffalo Club look like a cruel joke.
Excellent menu service and ambiance. Highly recommended.
It's Open. The new Urbane is open for business a must try for Brisbane. It now comprises of three venues; the Laneway Bar, Euro Brassiere and of course Urbane fine dining. It is all going to put a smile on the faces of all Brisbane foodies.
Monday night dinners for me often consist of a smaller portion of the previous Sunday night's dinner. Not last night though. Rather than a poorly re-heated slightly congealed pasta, we attended a Clonakilla wine event at one of Brisbane's most exciting restaurants: Urbane . For anyone who hasn't tried a drop of the Clon, it's not your usual big Aussie wine style, and that's what makes it really interesting. From the Canberra region, Clonakilla wines pack a lot of different ripe fruit and floral tastes into most of its bottles, but with a lot of finesse as well. It's less Dame Edna, more Princess Mary. Every wine we had last night had some sort of soft, floral notes on the nose which really took my mind to the countryside, as did the food we were served up. Dinner kicked-off with: House Made Potato Gnocchi, Tomato Fondu, Buffalo Mozzarella, Pesto, Parmesan with Clonakilla Riesling 2014 & Clonakilla Riesling 2007 Braised Bangalow Pork Shoulder, Honey Roasted Carrots, Eggplant Puree, Mt Zero Lentils with Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz 2013 & Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz 2007 The gnocchi itself was a delight, and was like biting into a little potato cloud. The fantastic quality buffalo mozzarella went particularly well with the crispness of the Clonakilla Rieslings. It was really great comparing two different vintages of the same wine throughout each course of food to see get a real sense of how wine changes and develops over time. The 2014 riesling was fresh and lemony, while the 2007 was much more toasty. The pork shoulder melted in your mouth and the little dollops of smoky eggplant puree set it off nicely. The honeyed carrots were moreish as well. Again, a great match with the two vintages of Hilltops Shiraz. Other delectable delights included: Manning Valley Braised Short Rib, Smoked Pomme Puree, King Brown Mushroom, Madiera Sauce with Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2013 & Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2008 Selection of cheese with Clonakilla Ballinderry 2012 For me, the short
Images of Urbane Restaurant - Restaurant PicturesSecond was abalone and herb emulsion. The abalone deep fried but was fresh and tender and the herb emulsion added a further depth of flavour. This dish displayed the freshness of produce as abalone can be quite chewy and flavourless if not prepared correctly.
The dish was beautiful and as promised, did have carrots with with wild weeds surrounding, but the incredibly thin carrot slices were placed over a carrot foam to form a perfect dome. Some carrot broth was poured in to settle under the foam and provide additional complexity and texture. Wow, the dish was incredible, light and powerfully flavoured, I never suspected that carrot could taste so divine!
Whether you're a vegan curious about fine-dining, or a fine-diner curious about vegan food, Urbane's Vegan Dinners will not leave anyone disappointed...
Seeing as the restaurant came with many positive reviews (many from FoodMeUpScotty ) and it has already been awarded two hats by the Australian Good Food and Travel Guide, we arrived buzzing with anticipation at having an amazing night. Urbane offers a 5 or 8 course degustation menu, with an omnivore or vegan option – an rarity I was both delighted and intrigued to learn as Chef Alejandro Cancino is apparently a vegan.
I knew, at that moment that I was in for a great culinary experience. We had Wagyu 9 tataki and Chawamushi w' kingfish otoro and caviar to start with and they were followed by Sucking pork belly, scallop, caramelised apple, crackling and Bangalow duck grilled over fig wood, figs, amaretto, coffee as our mains. None of the dishes disappointed.
“Spring”, was our first real course, and was in two parts; one cracker with rolls of finely sliced jamon, and a tomato ‘water’ with the most beautiful heirloom tomatos, skinned and adorned with fresh shredded crab meat. Spring instantly became my favourite season.
Urbane really brought back to me everything I love about fine dining. I've heard of (and been guilty of) people whinging that there's no point in paying premiums at a restaurant when equally delicious food can be had at home. The point is, it's not just about flavour or even belly satisfaction, it is about the whole experience. From the onset, the staff are professional, polished, polite and friendly. The service standards are impeccable. Even the bathroom gives one a pampered feeling. The menu is not just full of 'yum that sounds good' but is intriguing and exciting. The dishes are beautiful and carry a certain amount of theatre.
I also have to confess that Urbane is my favourite restaurant in Brisbane. Since returning from overseas in 2003, I've consistently had excellent food there.
